I think people here are deluding themselves. Precursor costs are definitely higher than they should be. Anet has even said they’re working on Precursor crafting—that should give you a hint right there that there is something pretty wrong with the market.
I think the reason Anet is concerned is that now even upper-middleclass veteran players will never be able to afford Legendaries/precursors off the TP at the current rate of inflation.
There’s been an ever-increasing gap between the rich and the middleclass+poor in this game from the start. Now, it’s finally come to a point where it’s nigh impossible for even the top 10 percent of new players (hardcore) to craft legendaries without a precursor drop.
(As we all know, the mystic toilet isn’t much of an option.)
Hence, Anet has shifted towards making precursors a guarantee, rather than keeping it a competition of having stupid amounts of luck.
dislike, its nice to have rare items people can work for and eventually earn, not everything should be easy to get its nice to struggle for things you want it makes them worth having
How aboout Anet creates new content worth struggling for? It’s not like the devs put countless hours of time and consideration into making the permanent hair stylist contract, after the self-style hair kit was coded. Having to struggle for something so basic is just an affront to gamers.
And just now Dulfy decides to post them:

Hey, if you happen to see/own the Prosperity Mine Kite, Crystal Shard Kite, or Ventari Follower Kite, please post a screenshot for me. Thanks.
Here’s a youtube video for you:
Anet prioritizes profit over customer satisfaction when it’s not significant enough to have a negative impact on Anet’s bottom line.
Anet (or maybe NCSoft in this case) has determined through some means that the current model, with minimal staff, is the most profitable. Hence, even if Anet by some miracle determined that your suggestion was not only valid but good, it would take some time to implement.
Anet probably won’t have the time or manpower to consider your suggestion, even if it only took .5 secs to implement with a decent sized team.
If Anet doesn’t feel your opinion is shared by many others (as in this case), or explicitly related to the rules, they really don’t care.
I had no idea you could toss petals while afk. News to me. Too bad it’s not possible anymore to confirm, lol.
Can you please tell me if all the items refunded were destroyed? Like the boxing gloves? I only requested a refund for items that I didn’t want to keep.
Some pieces are the default colors (brown), while others have the exact colors that I applied to them before. Unfortunately the boots are brown, while the rest of the outfit is the way I had it (black and red pants and gloves, with a white and light blue top) :S
I’m wondering if the items that are refunded will be deleted from my account? There are some tonics I’m on the edge about getting rid of due to the fact that they seem to have retained the color palette I applied to them before they became tonics. If someone could clarify, I would appreciate it.
Yes I believe it’s valid. But I’ll change it up a bit. Instead of a full computer what about a software package? You buy the software package for $50 and use it for 5 or 6 months and they release a new version that you have to pay full retail for. Do you think you should be given the software with the new features free of charge because you previously bought the software?
This isn’t a major software overhaul or a new computer we’re talking about.
Keeping in line with your analogies, it would be like the difference between Windows 8 moving to Windows 8.1, or Dell upgrading the speakers on a computer model that you recently bought.
While minor, nobody should expect these bonuses; if a company wants to be stingy, it’s their business. You can always take yours elsewhere if need be. Those who previously bought the infinite gathering tools should’ve already been aware that they are purely convenience items.
As you mentioned, there’s no stipulation that sprockets will be removed, or that they won’t be reintroduced in some later piece of content.
As a person who bought the complete first set, I don’t have any regrets. In my opinion, it’s still the best set, aesthetically speaking.
They aren’t exactly hot-cakes are they? As soon as their gem-store exit is threatened, people will want to buy them as discontinued items are extremely popular amongst MMO players for “prestige” or “value” regardless of how hideous they are.
While true, I doubt that players would decide to buy these items with real money. The fact is, these items have been out for a long time, so removing them now doesn’t exactly make them “limited edition”. I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see them come back down the road for a week or so, at an increased price.
Someone mentioned it already. It’s not to make less money; in fact, removing them will create the urgency that will drive sales toward the lower performing gemstore items.
I’m pretty sure they didn’t expect to make any money off of removing the items, especially without advertising their departure from the Gem Store.
No, rather, this signifies a shift from long-term gemstore items to primarily seasonal based All-in-one outfits.
The reason they’ve done this is twofold. One, because people expect long term items to be around for as long as they like—thus, they wait to buy these items with gold, and not gems. And two, because the town items were sold separately…meaning that they were even easier to buy with gold in pieces.
If Anet removes this, players will have no choice but to buy seasonal items “now”. Meaning, more players will be forced to buy gems with real money.
Got Toy Golem tonic recipe. Learned Plush Griffon instead. I am not a happy camper. I already have the Endless Plush Griffon Tonic. Filed a support ticket. Will know if they’ll do something about it.
They will probably send you another Toy Golem recipe, like they did to me. However, you will have to wait for them to fix the recipe, as it still has not been fixed. Right now it says I’ve already learned it, because it gives the Plush Griffon recipe.
I just want to say that I’m disappointed in Anet for the removal of these items, and no, I personally don’t find the Fancy Winter Outfit to be an adequate reason for it.
A quick buck is no replacement for a loyal dollar.
The ability to gift account upgrades and limited items for our friends. This could easily be achieved in a hacker-proof way.
Just send an in-game mail to the recipient asking whether they would like an item or not. The information of whether that user has the max number of upgrades would be known only to the account owner that way.
Declining this could result in either refunding the gift giver his gems back, or just giving the recipient the equivalent in gems.
My advice is to save up. You can make more than 100g in less than a month if you focus on it, rather than dailies. Buy some of the bolts from the tp when the prices drop, and combine that with the ones you craft yourself. That way you’d be on track to complete it before the month is done.
It’s ok, I already bought out all of the profitable armor. Go ahead.
Edit: OP deleted his own post, LOL. (I didn’t make this thread)

And those of us who clicked the recipe when it was broken at the launch of this update still haven’t had the problem fixed and the recipe added to our books…
Please fix this. I just level to 400 Artificer, just to learn that they still haven’t fixed it.
@tolunart.2095:
Those items were limited edition items, that were clearly stated to be so, and therefore players knew to look out for their removal. Removing items that have been around for a long time with no expectation of removal will only backfire in the long-run.
Not knowing when these items will return, if they return, means that if they come back for another week it will come and go without players even knowing that it came and went.
A large part of making profit from limited edition items is successful advertising. If people are not made aware of these becoming limited items, then who will buy them?
It’s a complete failure in the advertising department. Nowhere in the announcements is there a thread dedicated to the removal of the clothes as they do with the infinite gathering tools, every time. The front page of the BLTC itself doesn’t even advertise that they are going away.
Anet might as well be trying to cover up the fact that these items are going away by failing to promote them.
Perhapes new items will come on tuesday.
We are still missing Christmas Costumes in the store like this ones:
I hope you’re right.
They don’t sell very well/ They should have made them as normal skins for gear.
I think so too, but is removing them altogether really an answer?
If sales of those particular items were high enough to justify their existence, Anet would not remove them. Therefore, it is likely that they are selling extremely poorly and Anet is removing them to make it easier to get to the items that are selling.
Wouldn’t removing items mean less profit? These are digital items we’re talking about.
because the seasonal skins are more popular. we need more of those.
Seasonal skins may be more popular, but does removing town clothes really generate more sales of the already popular skins?
As with all fashion, the old season’s stuff is removed, so that the new season’s stuff can be brought in.
It would be nice if that were the case, but I don’t see anything new as noted to be coming in.

Right now I’m puzzled as to the removal of several items that have long been offered in the Gem Store.
This is without any prior notice of these being limited in availability, or any real explanation behind the move other than a simple “streamlining the Style category” note.
This is maddening—there’s already a lack of diversity in the style category.
There’s literally only one pair of town clothes boots purchasable separately in the Gem Store at the moment. Soon there will be none.
I would appreciate it if someone, preferably Anet staff, would please explain how removing town clothes from the Gem Store fits in with Anet’s goal of improving the game.
Seriously. Are there going to be new town clothes to replace the old ones? Or has Anet decided to give up on the Style category completely? I would like a better explanation, thank you.
Sincerely, Lyzran

Intended, sadly.
I would also assume the same. It would be more difficult to program—without some conditional programming you’d be able to buy infinite gifts at 40% off.
Right now I imagine they have it set up so gifting a friend earns you one discount credit. Thus, you could initially buy a gift at full price, and then apply the 40% discount to a gift for a friend, which would then earn you another 40% discount to apply to another friend….and so forth.
It’s too bad, because it takes away from the xmas spirit. Typically, you don’t buy presents for yourself, but instead receive them from others :/
Yes, I see. That doesn’t really change my question, though—is the one discount i earn from buying a gift for a friend applied to a gift for another friend?
Everything is account bound. There is no way to sell the things you get.
Ok, I’m wanting to buy two of an item for two different friends. As I understand it, once you buy an item for a friend, that item can then be purchased unlimited times for yourself at 40% off.
What I want to know, is, does gifting the same item to another friend get discounted?

I wouldn’t feel so bad about it if it weren’t for the fact that the price dropped across the board. There aren’t even new weapon skins or anything to invest in, so it’s a crushing defeat.
If you’re referring to exotic armor, then it’s due to everyone increasing their crafting level to 500. Prices are going to stay low for a long time.
As I understand it, this only applies to the initial ticket increase from 1 ticket to x tickets after the initial sale.
The pricing of the tickets for older weapon skins that have recently become purchasable with the black lion tickets, is very strange. The number of tickets required for sclerite weapons is only 3, while aetherized are already 5. The wintersday skins, that came out far before the other skins are also priced at 5.
In other words, duration has absolutely nothing to do with the ticket cost.
Will the old skins, such as aetherized weapon skins, increase in black lion claim ticket cost over time?
They will probably come back every now and then. I wouldn’t worry too much about it.
I don’t get it. You can throw the bouquet to a person other than yourself and have them hold it without getting changed to town clothes. So why can’t you do it yourself?
I would like this feature, even if all i could do is hold it without swapping back to town clothes.
No, the old tickets will not drop. It’s just the new Black Lion Tickets and the scraps that drop (as far as I know, and I wouldn’t believe otherwise short of hearing it from many others).
Hello, I am looking for a decently (if not fully) upgraded PvE guild on the Jade Quarry server with at least Tier 4 Economy and active buffs. I also have a lvl 80 Guardian friend who is also interested. We are both active players who’d be willing to rep full-time. PST me in-game, here on the forums, or just leave me a reply in this thread.
^I was like “OH YES!” when I found out, ’cuz I sold it all a day before the news got out.
Anet is currently in the business of making money. At first I was extremely surprised they allowed the limited skins to be sold on the TP, but on second thought, they already made a killing off of selling the RNG boxes when they were account bound. I imagine the reason they aren’t doing the same for the Infinite gathering tools is because they plan to re-release them in the future. Anything that cuts into their profit substantially won’t be happening.
(edited by SeasThyDay.7398)
+1 hell yes
great suggestion (that’s probably where this thread belongs)
I also made a thread in the Suggestion area, but it moves way too fast. I would be surprised if anyone had time to see it.
There are a at least a few expensive items that are soulbound on equip—one example, being the Infinite Gathering Tools. I can see the reason behind not making these items account-bound, but I think there should be a way to switch these items to new characters.
Introducing an “Unbind” Stone would solve this dilemma. The stone would revert all items to their previous unbound state, plus add a default “accountbound” property to prevent selling of used items.
It’s my guess that new themes of the infinite gathering tools will be released at some point in the future, so all the more reason people should be able to unbind the tools.

I think you’re only thinking of yourself here. Do you honestly believe YOU would benefit from there not being a re-listing fee? My guess is all those under-cutters would be overjoyed by the fact that they can endlessly undercut you.
See my edit. Confer with the wiki on “exotic” level rewards.
You can get Black Lion Keys from map completion, which in turn gives you a random chance at a BLSK. Obviously this is dumb luck too, so not any more reliable than the daily. But I have like 4 stacks of these from the dailies alone, so the odds aren’t that bad.
Edit: BLSK are an Exotic drop, so you’ll have to complete maps that have Exotic level rewards.

Then, all that needs to be done is to store all of the individual sales in a new variable. When you pick up your coins the variable could reset its value.
Really? All I see is “coins for pickup”.
A lot of the time I’ll hover over the red exclamation point to figure out whether I’ve got items or coins, or both. It would be nice if I didn’t have to bring up a whole window in combat just to confirm the amount of coins I’ve gotten.
And these still (very rarely) drop from black lion chests? Or are they exclusive to the winter boxes sold in 2012?
Edit: Also, may I have a screenshot to prove that you have a permanent contract?
