No Trinity and Maybe Trinity?

“More viable”? Support is literally run in every serious dungeon run ever, and control is a major part of every build. Phalanx Strength Warrior is support, and is the 100% defacto for every dungeon team that wants to do a serious dungeon clear. Control is in every single meta build to some degree. It just doesn’t have a defined person specifically doing it.

The Trinity, outside of control, is definitely represented in spades. The fact that you don’t have to have them, though, is something that ANet wanted from the get go. They wanted there to be no reason to have to just wait on a specific role/class to show up to do something, and there really isn’t.

I don’t see how bringing two skills makes you a support character. He’s still in full zerker and he’s still trying to pump out pure damage. Calling that support is a joke. The closest thing we have to support I’d say is mesmer and guard running reflect, and even then it’s just bringing one or two skills. By support I mean bringing a full build and buffing, blocking, and some minor healing for the team. Personal damage would not be a factor at all. This isn’t possible atm which is why it needs to be made ‘more viable.’

A good defense is a good offense. Killing the enemy is a good way to prevent it from hitting you. Might, fury stacking, aegis, stealth, reflects, blocks, etc. Looks like multiple skills to me.

Self Healing Opinion

I apologize if I was not clear, I am not asking for any dedicated Healer (though someone could trait as such if wanted) I just was looking at an easy way to give other stat groupings a bit of a boost in utility, and also give the “passive” defense skills / boons / traits better usage as well. It would give a better challenge overall without taking any part of the game away.

It will actually divide the “elites” and the “casuals” even more. The elites are good enough that they aren’t affected by their healing skill doing less when specked for full DPS. The casuals are not. They’ll get downed and die more often now because they don’t have the skills, even if they aren’t fully DPS specked.

And that’s just in dungeons. Your change also means that players become more dependent on there being others to play with out in PvE. Which is 99.9% soloable now. Most of us don’t mind playing with others, but we don’t necessarily want to play with others if you get my meaning. We don’t mind others being around, but we don’t want to have to know what build they are or what their skill level is.

here is an unorthodox thought for some of you out here:

Just rez the ppl as soon they are down kitten and don’t pretend you haven’t seen it.
It happened to me a lot that some poor brained, lousy, selfish player stands beside me without helping me to rezz myself up after getting downed. In an hostile environment that means death and leads to fruitless discussions like this one.

At vw lane one I manage to help rez 6-10 downed players, fill up the bee hive and dps the friggin boss. the rezzed players can now dps again.

remember: dead dps is no dps.

If you die too quickly after getting up from downed, you immediately die.

Sometimes people get downed in areas that are currently unsafe to be in.

How about no in combat resurrections of fully dead players.

A Solution to the Berserker Meta

I’ll stick around for direct questions, too

Why do you hate the trinity gameplay?

I don’t. I can just appreciate the combat system that is here, without getting hung up on the fact that its different.

And how do you know where this game is going after HoT? More than once have I heard that they are trying to bring changes to the current zerk problem. If they balance classes and make glasscanon runs impossible, and if several builds are viable and required for dungeons, it will inevitably lead to the trinity setup.

If they make glass cannons completely non-viable, that would go against the core design of the game. That isn’t going to happen.

There’s no other alternative. It’s either you can run dungeons with 5 people using the same build, or you can’t and are forced to rely on several builds. If you see any grey zone there then feel free to point it out, because I myself am not seeing it at all.

What you’re missing is that a build is more than gear stats. All zerks aren’t running the same build, there are multiple “meta” trait and skill configurations used for different PvE encounters. Just because they aren’t changing their gear doesn’t mean they’re all playing the same way.

What is according to you the core design of this game?

Active combat:

- active dodge
- active reflects
- group synergy from offensive and defensive skills
- the possibility to reduce all damage directed at the group/player through skillfull play (relfexes and proper skill choice)

No trinity:

- the classes and content are not designed to tank and spank
- changing this is not a mere change in some stats here in there. It’s a redesign of the entire PvE and PvP aspect of the game
- recoding of the entire AI aswell since it currently doesn’t support tank and spank

Those things combined are the sole reason why people are able to work off of maximum damage stats and pick berserkers. It has literally nothing to do with the actual stats on the armor.

Summerized:

Damage negation = not relevant on gear.

Solution: roll maximum damage gear.

I agree. I will also add this:

That groups of players (either enough for a Group Event or 5 for a dungeon) with enough skill can complete any content they want regardless of what their builds are. They don’t have to stop and make sure they have a good ratio of healers or tanks or control or support or whatever.

A Solution to the Berserker Meta

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Seera.5916

What reasons did I miss for zerker only being fine?

Short answer:

Stale content is the problem, not that we’ve figured out how to do it without passive defenses after doing the exact same fights for going-on 3 years.

That’s a terrible point actually.

WoW has existed for more than 10 years and it has always had tanks, healers and nukers in every dungeon, even the ones that are old.

LoL/DoTa, just to mention an example that isn’t a MMORPG, have been going for a long time as well, and it is unthinkable to have a full nuker party. Suggesting so would get you ridiculed.

The zerk meta exists because of poor gear balancing. If tanks were a lot tankier and had a taunt (while doing much less damage), and if monsters did much more damage, it would force team setups to have tanks and nukers.

That’s because WoW has a hard trinity. Where you have to have a healer and a tank as well as nukers to even complete the content. So saying that they have more than one build type variety even though old content is pointless. They have it because they have to.

What would be a better argument is if you could go into if there are multiple types of healer builds still considered optimal or multiple tank builds or multiple nuker builds. Or if each class just has one optimal build for each role. For a specific raid.

And I don’t know about others who play GW2, but one of the major reasons I picked up this game was because it didn’t have a hard trinity. Where my ability to clear end game content is not dependent on finding others to fulfill other roles.

And the thing about a meta is, it’s always the optimal set up. There is never going to be a huge number of optimal builds. Not for a specific area of play. Because one gear and trait set up will be the fastest. Always. One set up will be able to do it more reliably if two builds tie on paper.

Now is the difference between the meta and non-meta builds to large? Possibly. Could things change to make them closer so that more builds are tolerable by PUG players looking for a quick run? Possibly. But you’ll never get rid of the meta.

Bad enough i maybe have to do them for those new legendarys.

PHIW has began to flood this thread. God forbid for you to work on all parts of the game to get a legendary.

God forbid dungeons get dungeon-specific loot thats actually cool rather than kittenty crafting recipes for kittenty amulets!

Seriously. Go back to enjoying your Silverwastes challenging chestfarm/events will ye?

Whatever PHIW is .. God forbid people play dungeon because the LIKE to play them.

No what if you were forced to loot 10.000 chests in SW for you Legendary ? Or that
all the “cool” loot is just in SW chests .. because everybody should be forced to play
the stuff he dislikes the most just to get something good ?

No go back to glitch through your walls and stack in corners.

But a legendary isn’t your typical loot item. It should involve you doing a wide variety of aspects of the game. At least something from every aspect you can take the legendary to. So for the new legendaries it would be: Dungeons/Fractals, PvE – old, PvE – new, WvW, PvP. Do I would not hold it against ANet from having the new legendaries require playing in all of those areas. And I hate PvP. I would resign myself to not getting those legendaries or them taking forever because I hate PvP and would either never do it or rarely do it.

So if the new legendaries require me to open up SW chests for some RNG item, then so be it.

And he wasn’t asking for everything to be specific to dungeons, he just asked for something, so the “all the cool loot” example is hyperbole at best and not worth any more comments.

There are Vistas at the end of some JPs. So going for a map clear is problematic for some.

What, like 3 in the game? Maybe 4? It’s basically a non-issue. If you really hate JPs so much for whatever reason, just pay a Mesmer to portal you.

Some people don’t want to pay for ports either. I know I don’t at least for first run through. Unless I get to the end and mess up and there’s a mesmer there offering to port me. I want to earn the achievement. And we’ll, pressing f isn’t very skillful.

I checked back to the beginning of April, you haven’t hit DR since that time.

So are you saying he hit DR somewhere near the beginning of April?

…or are you saying that’s as far back as you checked?

Either way…. the playerbase need more transparency when it comes to the stipulations on hitting DR. I feel that a lot of us are wasting our time farming an area and not getting loot… because we’ve hit the DR wall. (but have no way to tell)

Can you at least outline the basics regarding how a player does indeed hit DR?

Can you get DR from opening champ bags?

What about ToT bags or Wintersday gifts?

There are so many questions we have, and instead of elaborating, you respond with terse one line answers.

Is there any intention to add a message to the game’s event log, that tells a player his rewards have been reduced due to overfarming?

We can answer the questions ourselves if we could visually see when/if we are hitting DR.

…but as it sits right now… DR is completely shrouded in mystery…. and it shouldn’t be.

To stop the evil bots from developing better AI for their bots, they likely won’t divulge exactly how you get DR as that would tell the bot makers how to code their bots to better avoid DR.

…which is the worst reason to implement any sort of policing.

Punishing players who are just trying to enjoy themselves because of the actions of botters and goldsellers.

Want to send everyone in your dungeon team a potion of slaying?
Nah you can’t. Because some gold seller once sent three e-mails to different people so everyone is now limited to two.

Half the time these “fixes” to prevent botters and gold sellers don’t even stop the bots but hinder regular players.

The hush on DR methods I understand.

I do think the mail suppression is tuned too harshly. It should be at least 4 players before you get suppressed for the example you gave. Giving your dungeon party members some food buffs.

I think they really need to allow all ascended gear to be re-stated, like they did back when magic find gear needed to be changed, however I think allowing exotic gear would be a step to far, exotics are not expensive these days.

This really frosts my gourd.

Why? Because one of the selling points when Ascended was shoved down our throats was that it was not required, and that exotics were almost as good. Well, guess what. Some of us stuck with exotics because we didn’t want the whole re-gear thing that others demanded. Now you want to stick us with re-gearing again while you play the “Ascended is too expensive or time consuming” card?

You know what. To heck with that. If ANet doesn’t want to offer a re-stat to everyone at L80, then I say no re-stat for anyone. So you “worked” or spent on Ascended? Big deal, that’s why it was put into the game. If you don’t want the same courtesies extended to all players, I hope no one gets a re-stat.

You do sound upset and tbh I don’t see it getting any better for you, I really do not see them allowing exotics to be re stated, a full set of exotic armor is around 15-20g which is not a big deal, ascended however is more like 300g, the qq that will be seen on these forums if they do not allow for re stating ascended will be on a massive scale, and arenanet will have to give in to it, like they have on many occasions when there was major qq on the forums. The amount of people qqing about exotics though will be small in comparison and tbh does not hold much weight.

15-20g may not be a big deal for you, but it is for those of us casuals who do not farm the same map over and over and over again for gold or what not and do not frequent dungeons or fractals.

If they offer a stat change, they should offer it to anyone with affected armor. Whether the armor is ascended, exotic, or even basic.

If you are so casual that 15-20g is a big deal then you don’t have ascended armor or weapons because those aren’t items one casually acquire.

You’re right. I don’t. I likely would if I hadn’t taken as many breaks from the game as I had, I’ve been playing since head start. Ascended gear will come after I get everything for Meteorlogicus except for the precursor. And I’m down to the T6 mats, charged lodestones, ecto, and runestones. I’m predicting HoT will be out before I get everything but the precursor.

I do have ascended rings and trinkets. I have one ascended weapon. Assassin stats. But only because RNG was kind to me. I haven’t decided what weapon to make it so the chest is in my bank until I decide.

But Derenek is right. The cost of the armor is irrelevant. If they change the stats on a particular armor, they should offer free respecs to any who are affected. Regardless of what their armor cost.

I understand what you are saying, but as I mentioned above, I don’t think this is the case. I think there is more going on than the simple “open a new shard when a map overflows due to an event, then close it afterward”. I have not yet teased out what it is, which is why I’m writing about it at all.

I have also, on two occasions, been asked to leave a map during a boss fight with the “too few players” message. In that case we had plenty of people and were going to kill the boss with plenty of time to spare. Folks explained that it was an overflow map and would be closed, but even mediocre software would check to see that the event that spawned the overflow was over before launching the closing sequence. (Or at least do a population check on a time delay, and see plenty of people still there). These two distinct flaws seem to indicate there is some other zoning control in place, not particularly well thought out, and shows up regularly.

And the players doing the boss may have been the only ones really on that shard. And that amount of players may have been too low. Your pre-event may have taken longer on average than most of the other maps. Or you weren’t burning the boss down as fast. So the other shards emptied out and you got the merge message as your shard was below the population levels they would like to keep shards at and there were other shards to move you and the others on your map to.

Your lawyerly alternate theory approach to proving the software is working correctly flys in the face of technical reality. Prequels have timers. Bosses have timers. It’s easy to read the value of the timers and determine if the event failed. It’s difficult in the case of sequenced prequels and long boss fights to determine it’s going to fail, as you theorize. In the case I remember, the Megadestroyer, we had a big zerg and were within a minute of killing it, with 7 mins to go of the allowed 15. Whether or not the prequels were fast or slow, they didn’t time out or we’d not be fighting it.

OTOH, if some designer decided to use an arbitrary time limit for all WB fights “one size fit’s all” it would be pitiful design, but create the exact phenomena I’ve described.
OR, just checks shards on an arbitrary timer, forgetting they were created for a boss fight, and deciding there were too few to win Teq, so must be too few to win an easier fight.

The premises offered for the OP ( zoning into a too low zone) hinge on a big unlikelihood. It presumes that at the moment I clicked to zone, the map was okay, but somehow, during the 5-10 seconds of zoning time, some arbitrary large zerg disappeared. Once a year, maybe. But not 5 times in a week, in nominally underpopulated zones and off peak periods. There is some other issue in the code, about as bad as not checking boss timer status to dump shards created for a boss fight.

Never said you failed the events. Just that you’re shard may not have been killing the boss AS FAST. Let’s say Shatterer requires 200 DPS on average to kill him just in the nick of time. Your shard was doing 300 DPS. Other, full shards, were doing 400 DPS. Guess which shards are going to empty out first and possibly trigger move pop ups on small pop shards?

And your counter doesn’t count against the new players who may be in that level range who are coming and going on the mid-level maps.

Or guild events may be happening as other posters pointed out.

HoT’s announcement has also brought back players who had taken a break. As support threads can prove due to increased ticket times due to players forgetting passwords or coming back to find out their account had been hacked while they were away. So they may be out playing again. Leveling new characters or doing guild events.

So yes, the number of move to a new map things may have increased. But that may be simply due to the increased number of players changing maps or logging off or switching to another character that’s not on the same map.

And players with just mid-level characters may be going to specific mid-level maps for the Daily Map Events. Going to the map to do the events only to leave when they’ve finished. This could cause map populations to fluctuate more, especially if it’s not right on top of reset either before or after.

I’ve suggested this before, and I’ll suggest it again. I’d love to see a system implemented like Eso and Tera where the mouse locks to the camera rotation unless you’re using it for the UI. My mouse is fine, but my middle finger has been feeling out of sorts because of constantly holding down the right mouse button.

If you mean what i call “shooter control” .. then god no .. i hate it when the camera
shakes all the time just because i move my mouse a little bit. Also i like to turn my
camera while running in a different direction or in fight and click some skill with
my mouse.

It would be nice if it was an option, though. “Shooter Control” On/Off. That way those who don’t wish to use it don’t have to use it, but those who would like it, can use it.

Everyone wins.

Maps open and close all the time as people move in and out of them. A big reason for a map closing right after you waypoint in is because a lot of people left, such as what happens when a meta boss event ends and the zerg moves to the next boss. All the maps that were made to handle the zerg then are closed down.

I understand what you are saying, but as I mentioned above, I don’t think this is the case. Waypoint Fee Alternative

So the player who doesn’t have a lot of time to walk across the map and therefore doesn’t have the time to farm the necessary fuel items is penalized?

And if you pay for the item with gold, then it’s a pointless change and it should just stay as pay coin.

And I don’t want to have to make sure I play in all areas of the world or on all of my characters just to ensure that I can map on any of my characters from anywhere to anywhere. I want to play where I want with who I want and be able to earn whatever it is I need to travel anywhere. And have what I earn for travel be usable on any of my characters. And I have one of each race.

I waypoint often on my Asuran elementalist (and I only have the one elementalist). She mostly does world boss events these days and they aren’t close to each other. So if there were racial waypoint stuff, she’d always be low if not out. And there’s typically time before some of the bosses to go off and do other things, like farm waypoint stuff and they better drop at a high rate, you have remembered that drops are RNG, right? She’d likely be able to farm enough to fund her own personal waypointing.

But I haven’t been doing world boss stuff and I’m running my Human warrior around for map completion. But what if someone really needs an elementalist for something and I volunteer. But the fee to waypoint to where they need me is more than what I’ve got in waypoint materials. I now have to tell who I volunteered to help that I have to either farm those materals or walk to where they need me. So it’s going to be a while. That’s not good for the community at all. I can’t help with my main because I’ve been playing an alt more often.

It may also create less helping out others on the fly because you don’t want to end up with too few of the waypoint items for a specific character in case you really need them. Death for instance because that happens to the best of us. Or for things we want to do. Like world boss trains or gathering mats across the world, etc.

I vote no for changing what is used to waypoint. Coin is just fine. Everyone earns it. It’s usable for all characters going anywhere from anywhere. And is a much needed gold sink.

You would go to another shard of the map, and be in the exact same spot as when you clicked ok. You didn’t go there in the first place because the map you went to first still had enough players to exist and the algorithm they use to put you onto a map decided that shard was the best for you. Had more of your server players, more of your guild, more of your friends, etc. Or the only other instance of the map was full.

We’ve had sales recently. Mid-level zones could be more populated right now due to new players have mid-level characters and leveling up. Their daily events may be putting them in mid-level zones for their Daily Events. Since it is based off of the highest character a player has.

Issues while streaming Netflix

in Account & Technical Support

Seera.5916

It’s the internet, sometimes internet nodes (routers) have issues. If you are streaming in HD, you are creating a whole lot of work for your NIC (network card). Your CPU has to process all of that AND the video you’re streaming.

It’s also possible you have malware or trojans on your system adding to the bandwidth utilization. Did you even check for malware? Have you even tried disabling unneeded start-up programs that may be using even more bandwidth? Have you checked with your ISP to see if they are having issues?

The point is, there are a whole lot of things that can be causing issues. I’m really not sure why you would want to stream movies while playing this game though, when, at best, it may cause lag or disconnects. I have noticed this while playing GW2 and downloading files at the same time. The game is a bit laggy when I do that, but it works.

This really seems pretty normal to me considering the fact that you are streaming video at the same time. What has changed? The game has changed and may be requiring the CPU to process more network data. Netflix may have changed how they stream videos.

Personally, I would not try and stream video at the same time as playing an online game because I’m aware of the issues it can cause. There are probably things out of your control that have changed. You may not be able to resolve this. That’s why I said what I said.

That only increases your chances. You have a chance if you are signed up for the newsletter.

If you are signed up for the newsletter (the requirement for the previous beta), then you have a chance at the Beta already.

Looking for a portal only increases your chances of getting into the beta.

So they’ll run the event for X time. If they don’t have the numbers required by then, they will likely give access to a random set of players who are signed up to the newsletter but did not get the portal.

And you will need to sign up for the newsletter to get access, even if you get a portal.

Suggestion: Change Display Name

A good solution would be to restrict a change every 30 days, for a free change, and then charge gems for those who want to change it before that, but still restrict them to once a week.

People shouldn’t need or want to change their display name that often.

I would however be open to allowing one free display name change ever. Or maybe once per year.

So a true jerk joins a party. The run goes smoothly for most of the run so the jerk isn’t that bad and is tolerable. Then the run starts running into issues. The jerks then starts going off in chat about how bad everyone but he is and how he hates carrying and on and on and on. Ruining the experience of the other players.

Your solution means that the other four players have to decide to sit there and deal with the jerk and hope he rage quits without any guarantee that he will, or quit the instance themselves and lose progress in the dungeon.

I think that’s a much worse situation to be in than what we have now.

I think that’s an imaginary situation, as I described in my original post.

It’s not an imaginary one. It’s likely not a common occurrence, but jerks exist in all games unfortunately.

And I’d rather try find a solution that lets those jerks get what’s coming to them (a kick and some reporting) than the innocent suffer than settle with the easy solution.

And ANet considers the GW1 account to be your brother’s. There is no giving the account to anyone else. They aren’t likely to link the accounts based on the information in this post.

Sorry but it’s been two months without any post from DEV. ‘Ticket for older than 7 days’ forum is dead now. We are a lot of people waiting right now for an update on our tickets. Sad

Just because the devs don’t post there doesn’t mean they don’t read and follow up accordingly.

Doesn’t mean they are doing that either, but don’t take lack of posting for lack of action by the devs.

Edit to add: A dev literally just posted in the thread. So it’s not dead.

If they mess with the stat options on the armor themselves they may very well allow for one free stat swap chooseable the next time you log into that character after it hits the system. At least for any with affected armors. Probably also the same for weapons.

But if they don’t alter the armor at all, then you’re likely going to be out of luck.

Of course this is all conjecture and who knows what ANet will do.

And take this time to realize that MMO’s change over time. Some changes are small, others are huge. Nothing is set in stone in an MMO. Weigh the cost of what it takes to make/unlock/etc the item/trait/etc vs the benefit of it vs how you would feel if they make it obsolete before you feel you’ve gotten your money’s worth out of it.

RnG beta key lottery??

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Seera.5916

So instead of players taking an active role to get a closed beta key, it is better for them to RNG emails from a list of potentially dead accounts? Access that could have gone to active players instead?

So instead of players from each of the 3 core game modes having potential access to the beta keys, it is better to omit PvPers and WvWers by having a steep RNG factor in only two PvE maps?

It’s beta may be PvE only, so that seems fitting. There was a full 24 hours of stronghold recently for everyone. There may be a WvW coming up as well.

It may be in a PvE map, but that doesn’t make it PvE only. There’s also —most likely--testing of the Revenant, UI, and potential changes to other classes.

Also, as you pointed out, everyone had access to the Stronghold. Even the first closed beta gave equal opportunity to unlock that privlage, without asking people to leave their core game mode. This Beta makes you solely grindPvE to potentially test it.

Maybe they’re trying to pin down a bug and need people who are willing to repeatedly do one activity over and over again.

So this method of choosing will help get better suited beta players.

An acquaintance of mine got on, in two weeks got an abyssal dye and a precursor, decided he was bored, and stopped playing.

Meanwhile, I’ve been playing since beta and have never touched a precursor. So… yeah, luck happens. Sucks, but what can you do about it, other than live with it or rage quit?

I’m a PHP developer. When a system doesn’t work as intended, or there is a better alternative, I improve on my initial designs. That’s why my framework has developed quite well over the past 7 years. I give my customers 2 years long free upgrades incase I find ways to improve their initial product. All part of the service I offer.

ArenaNet however decided that RNG + Skinner Box is the way to go and to never improve upon this system (adding new currency is a band aid at best).

A well developed system would increase the droprates over time for a person if they have been unlucky for months/years to ensure every player has their ‘happy’ moment. An even better system would be one that rewards actual effort instead of pressing 1 once and resulting in bronze completion with the same item rewards as gold completion. This however is far more expensive to develop & maintain so they choose the cheap version instead.

I’ve been playing since Guild Wars 1 and while I’ve sadly been getting older over these past 10 years (wtb age reduction skill) I’ve also seen well respected companies turn to crap due to financial restraints setup by investors/management. This case is sadly no different.

I still play for about 5 minutes per day as I keep a slight sense of hope that someday they will understand that the skinner box & rng won’t work forever as content but it’s also fading a bit more every day seeing the current developments.

This entire ‘event’ for the next beta only reconfirmed why I decided to become inactive in the first place.

edit: spelling.

So how are they supposed to randomly give active players keys without risking too many players getting keys? If you’re so good at improving the system, why don’t you design a different way to randomly give keys out, ensuring they only go to active players.

If it is not about different builds but about different map instances then after you are in the same party you can
1. select the friend and choose enter same map instance (can’t remember the exact wording).
or 2. Exit the map by going to character selection then log back onto the same character. You should be in the same instance.

In the future form the party before joining your friend in their map instance.

That’s not the OP’s problem.

New Party Kicking Mechanic is Unfair!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Seera.5916

The simplest solution is to disallow kicking except when the user is either offline or not inside the instance. Otherwise, kicking is a solution in search of a problem.

Realistically, the number of leechers who decide to join a dungeon and then AFK is smaller than the number of trolls who abuse kicking, and even in those cases there are factors working against them:

1) The game automatically kicks them for being idle. Anet may want to consider lowering dungeon instance timeouts to be similar to that of PvP. This by itself will pretty much shut down most attempts at abusing the group system.
2) If they are not actually AFK, then not helping will actually make the run take longer for no real reason. They’d usually be wasting their own time. This is as opposed to AFKing in the open world, where unrewarding events are usually AFK’d because they are on fixed timers.
3) If their lack of participation causes the party to fail, they don’t get the reward either.
4) Leeching a dungeon group is easy for Anet to determine in an objective manner. Doing this can and should be a reportable offense to be handled by Anet with account-level disciplinary action. This was how it was done in GW1.

In total, kicking basically serves no real function other than to enable griefing, including actions that could otherwise be dismissed as elitism.

In the specific case of the OP, I think he displayed several red flags and in any case we only have his side of the story, so I’m not going to make any judgment as to whether it was justified or not. Rather, I think the problems could be avoided if Anet simply approached the hypothetical problem with a clean slate:

How do you stop leeching in dungeons?

Kicking has virtually nothing to do with it and is more of a thoughtless reimplementation of misfeatures found in other games.

Carry (Damage), Support (buff), Tank (Front)

GW2 will never have the trinity. There’s so many threads already created about this… If you want the trinity there’s lots of other games you can play. Final fantasy 14 isn’t too bad.

There are however certain classes that function as support type classes. For instance j. Fractals a good mesmer will always be focus pulling mobs into groups to kill faster. They will also be taking stacks down quickly for ice bow deep freeze. They also will use iWarden, curtain, feedback to have lots of reflect up time. Such as in the Ascalon Shard they will strip boons.

Ele has water field and fire fields to blast for healing, might and fury.

Engi stacks vulnerability.

Most classes have some type of support but some more so than others. Currently necro is one of the most lacking and ele is probably the strongest in terms of support as it has so many blast finishers with water and fire fields plus ice bow. Outside of this type of support, as in some actual healing skill for healing other players such as cure is in final fantasy, you won’t be seeing that in GW2.

I dont want play other game I just like GW2, the graphic, the combat, the UI is awesome.

So I just giving ideas to make it better. Its just idea so dev can read.

Yes every class has different unique skills. But this uniqueness make it harder to balanced.

And a lot of us play GW2 because it does not have the trinity. We don’t have many other games to go to of any variety of level of quality. Please don’t kill one of our games to make it into another trinity game. There are a ton of them out there.

And I want uniqueness. Otherwise they may as well remove all classes but one and all builds but one. Then the game can be balanced. But I don’t want a game with no variety. Kills a LOT of replayability. Which MMO’s need since players will always consume content incredibly faster than developers can create it.

Arena Net have said nothing official on this AFAIK.

But expect incoming blog explaining why it is a bad idea to let you all instantly lvl to 80 with Revenant. Just like you won’t have any skill points to use with Revenant anymore, Tomes of Knowledge will be changed in some way to stop you levelling Revenant to 80.

There’s no way they can without having a huge PR disaster after HoT launches. And that’s the last thing that ANet needs.

I was thinking of using tomes to level my Revenant, but I think i’ll hold off and actually play them from level 1. Giving me a chance to learn the profession, and find out which traits work and which don’t.

But I do foresee a ton of lvl 80 Revenants from the start.

Imo, it’s better to get to level 80 immediately to learn how the class works. You’ll have access to all skills and a bunch of traits. Why spend hours/days just getting to the spot where you can learn which traits work and which don’t when you can get or it immediately? Myself, I don’t find spending the time slowly unlocking the weapon skills, then slowly unlocking the utility skills, then slowly unlocking the traits, compelling play time. I’ve been there and done that before this.

Different people learn differently.

I know I won’t be using tomes.

I don’t want to suddenly have everything available and have to choose from numerous skills and traits. I’d rather open up a few new ones at a time.

Seera.5916

Of course they can. There is (as far as I am aware) not a single law that says that a company most give support for a product forever. In fact I can almost guarantee that it is not a law, seeing as that would basically mean every product ever would be required to be supported forever, which simply would be impossible.

If I contact Blizzard today, with a support issue for Diablo (1 or 2) it is very unlikely that I would get lightning fast support (if any). Last time I tried (had issues with my D2 disks about 5 years ago) it took them almost a month to even reply.

There’s a big difference between a single player game that came out 15 years ago and an MMO. MMO’s are designed to last a much longer time. If Arenanet had said that were ceasing support for the game it wouldn’t be an issue, but they haven’t said anything to that effect. There is no law that guarantees product support forever, but there are laws that protect a consumer’s rights in an instance where they aren’t being supported for a product they have paid for and can reasonably assume that they should be. Maybe there isn’t something to that effect in the US, but there is in New Zealand and they have to adhere to it.

And there is no law that says if you offer support that it must always remain at the same level as the day you first offered support for the product. So them having reduced support for GW1 is not illegal.

But what’s the point if they don’t make a profit on it? I would imagine they wouldn’t keep buying new accounts if they weren’t making a profit on it.

Of course there is always someone who buys from them so it’s a moot point now isn’kitten Because they would only stop if literally no one was buying.

Well… it depends on the game and the person involved.

In some games, it’s to legitimately sell gold. These sort of groups will have people grinding out currency and sell it to other players.

In others, the goal is to take control of the account, either to skin the entire account for rare materials (like salvaging or disenchanting rare gear that can be given to the thief’s account). Or the purpose can be to take control and sell the account itself. I remember during my raiding heyday that top raiders would get offers to sell their account for over $1,000 or so.

If literally no one was buying in a particular game and that persisted for months at a time, I’m 100% positive that the gold sellers wouldn’t remain. Not if the game is Pay to Play or Buy to Play. A Free to Play game they aren’t losing any money if no one buys.

But GW2 is Buy to Play. If literally no one was buying from them, then they would lose money by continuing to make new accounts as old ones get banned. And free trials are too infrequent to rely on them. I can’t imagine any company (and that what gold sellers are, part of a company) that would consciously make a decision to not make as high of profits as possible.

But of course, there will always be some players who decide to buy from them. For a variety of reasons. So there will always be gold sellers.

Is it me or the two following posts sounds like they come right out of a movie or something?

@GreyWraith : I agree. Another, fair and simple way to do that could be to simply reward Hero Points for each unlocked Trait, which the game actually tracks.

They may be keeping quiet on this matter to prevent players from buying all of the traits they haven’t already unlocked as a means to get any compensation, if any. Because people would abuse it.

That won’t stop it.

The ONLY way it will stop is if NO ONE who plays GW2 buys gold from them anymore.

That’s the only way it will ever end.

No amount of inconveniencing players will solve it.

It would also be very annoying to be out in the world fighting and aiming an AOE and have that pop up come up and interrupt me. Or block my screen and make it so that I die.

So I wouldn’t opt into it. It’s much easier and better for the game and economy to report the mail. Not let it return to sender.

This isn’t true. Gold sellers will infest any game regardless of buyers. They are in games where there isn’t any way to transfer funds, like WoT. Their goal is really to hijack accounts, not really sell gold.

But what’s the point if they don’t make a profit on it? I would imagine they wouldn’t keep buying new accounts if they weren’t making a profit on it.

The real issue here is how mouseover on the price would make your numbers go into price, rather than into the quantity field YOU ACTUALLY CLICKED.

The hover-select is the best feature of the current TP UI. Well, second-best, right under mousewheel to change values. The whole thing is so cripplingly slow as it is that requiring more clicks just to use it would be a far greater loss than that of the odd person who doesn’t pay attention to what they’re doing.

I’ve never heard of any feature in anything that’s hover-select. And I imagine there are several others just like me. No where does it warn that the TP is hover-select. So I, and other players assumed it was click-select, just like EVERY other text box we’ve ever seen on a browser (TP is browser based).

Personally, they should make it act like every other text box on every other site. Harder to make mistakes if you have to click in the fields literally to change what box you’re in.

And what part of the TOS says that they won’t change anything drastically, that they won’t destroy builds? That your expensive choices today will be mailed to the appropriate departments with magically known reasoning for said choices (you chose them intentionally and not for the skin)? There have been people complaining that stat bonuses were tied to trait lines. And that several traits were useless. These changes are in direct result of those people. Are they supposed to not get what they want just because it negatively affects you?

If armor and/or weapon changes are drastic as a compensation for the loss of stat bonuses on traits, they have in the past for drastic armor changes, given the affected armors a drop down menu to choose the new permanent stat. So there may be something like that done, but not a guarantee.

That being said, I don’t blame you for worrying that your armor and weapon choices may be drastically different with the new trait system.

Hopefully the upcoming change to dungeons so that they scale to any size party, 1 – 5, will solve all these issues. The OP will not need to call in 3 more members to the party to finish the dungeon. Players who do not have a band of friends or belong to a guild will not need to form a party with possible jerks and trolls.

First, please site where this dungeon scaling is coming from… As far as I heard its only for the conversion of arah story to the final mission of personal story instead of a 5 man disaster of a “dungeon.”

Secondly there are lots of crazy ideas here, including my favorite, is any one in lfg can join any ones group. So your doing CoF, I am doing TA, but I will join your group, because I don’t care about your listing, your just available… This community is not ready to have a real discussion on changes needed to LFG (just look through old threads.)

Personally I like the idea of party leaders, however the solution could be to make group rules editable. As in we have the option of starting the group as a dictatorship or democracy, and instance owner or none. Then over a period of several months Anet could presumably pull some statistics as to the “least trolled” setup and move forward with the best system. This will never crate an actual perfect system, because with entitled people around, and people who have multiple accounts so they can troll on one, or just plain kitten play these games, it is going to not work ideally for any(/every)one.

So instead of getting peoples hopes up with a system that half of us will like, and then removing that system, lets just keep with what we have and understand it sucks. We can follow the rule if we pug, bring the majority, or expect to be screwed… then if your not, something good happened in this game for once.

The ONLY dungeon the devs have talked about recently is Arah Story Mode. Because it is the final personal story step. Arah story mode is going away. And a new final personal story chapter is being made to replace it.

what if… ppl with insufficient AP would’nt be able to see AP restricted LFGs

I love this idea. Create AP levels, if your account doesn’t have it too bad you can work your way up like the rest of us.

Useless. AP means NOTHING as an indicator of skill. Does having a low AP count on my alt account mean I “dont know” how to run dungeons or fractals? No, it just means I dont feel the need to AP-kitten my alt account to catch up with my 1+ year old account. Same thing for other players with single accounts. They could have low AP, and know how to solo dungeons that some 20k+ AP person dies at every turn in.

Achievements are a bunch of mindless kitten anyone can do that dont promote actual skill in the game.

Think of it this way, would you want to join a group that thinks AP is a measure of skill anyway? The filter does the skilled players who have lower AP a favor. Removes the clutter from their LFG.
