GW2 Sales 2Q16: a new All Time Low

The kitten considering HoT and the people who had bought the Core game didn’t help.

Pay for Expac, but we’re adding the game free of charge with no discount for people who already bought it! – I know that put me off until I found HoT for really cheap on a keysite and bought it there. I hope they DON’T do that for the next Xpac. Cause you’ll just kitten even MORE people off. I won’t come back a second time if your gona play the same tricks.

You do realize they gave the people who owned the original game and preordered a free character slot right? With the game being so old, and some sales taking it down to $10 at times, that seemed like a fair deal.

And yes, they said that whenever and expac comes out, the previous becomes free. They don’t want to become like WoW where you’ll need $100 just to play the game and be caught up to everyone.

Trait System Rework?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Serophous.9085

Serophous.9085

The only thing I don’t like bout the system is elites taking a slot. I was hoping they would get a panel of their own.

As for traits themselves, there does need to be a new overhaul. Some trait lines for some professions are a mess (warriors), and it’s time to drop specific weapon traits and instead move on to group (instead of a trait affecting ONLY great swords, make it “slashing” and have the slashing group contain great swords, axes, etc.

I can see this helping with build diversity, since now you aren’t locked into one weapon.

Serophous.9085

Ok, lets lay out the facts here so this topic can be put to rest:
1. Eir had to fight turned Sylvari while surviving a crashing airship
2. Either she was immediately captured after the crash unconscious, gave up and captured without a fight (unlikely), or fought and was finally subdued.
3. She was denied food and water for days. Yes, she has probably done this before and even after a fight in the wilderness, but that doesn’t mean she was weakened then either.

Assumption:
Be it fighting on board the ship, surviving the crash, and surviving probably a second battle, she could’ve sustained internal injuries that we didn’t know about, such as broken ribs or something.

Now, the faults on why this wasn’t conveyed so well lie on the anet story telling, and the game engine itself.

There could’ve been a step in the story where we SAW Eir taking on countless hordes of enemies, fighting them off as we run and try to save her, only to be delayed long enough for the enemy to take her anyway. That way we could’ve seen her going all out and known she was fighting as hard as she could. This could’ve replaced one of those tracking missions or been added before them. Instead, I feel anet was looking to us to IMAGINE that part ourselves.

The second issue lies in the game engine itself, as it really can’t depict too much actual physical injuries, plus it needs to stay T for teen, so while blood is allowed, its not going to be too graphical, neither are injuries.

There. Can we finally move on from this? Its almost been a year already

This is an MMO, most of the thousands of players running past you won’t even remember what your character looks like 3 seconds later.

True, but the ones that do look and send me the whisper “you look so cool! What is that?” Makes me happy. And it’s not that I have something rare, it’s I was able to combine well to design a look

When Will the PVE Berserker Meta Change?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Serophous.9085

Serophous.9085

I think it’s worth noting that not every gear has to be part of the meta to be used. Zerk might be ideal for people who know the encounters, know how to use evasive skills, and know when to dodge, but I’ve spent enough time helping friends up off the floor that I hesitate to make them even more glassy. The boss might get more swings in because we’re not killing it so quickly, but one-hit-ko’s aren’t the only thing that kill casual players.

To players really concerned about meta gear, very little of the open world is “hard,” but there are plenty of players who struggle with Orr, and take a trip through Verdant Brink at night with some serious gravitas.

That’s how I view gear in open world and dungeons.

New to the game? Not very good at using CDs or dodging? Use gear for more defense or healing.

Feel better adjusted? Take more of a risk and start going glass cannon

I once supported Tracks in PvE as well, but thinking about it more, it can’t work givin the current system.

If it was implement just now, people will just farm mobs like they did for the mastery tracks, or go to the quickest area with a lot of events, and run around tagging as many as they could for the xp.

Unlocking it after masteries doesnt work, because more masteries are planned with content release.

They could try doing it how its done in WvW. But again, I can sit in a starter zone where events happen pretty regularly, and easily get a track done with minimal effort.

So, it just doesnt work, and PvE is already rewarding enough compared to the other 2 modes

When Will the PVE Berserker Meta Change?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Serophous.9085

Serophous.9085

The other day I was gearing up my Warrior, and one my friends told me that I should go get some Soldier’s or Knight’s gear, but let’s be real, you really only need Berserker’s. Any group running full Zerk in a dungeon will be quicker at completing it then a group without full Zerk, which sucks, because it encourages everyone to build Zerk. This got me thinking and into a discussion where I thought about why people only run Zerker gear, and here’s what I came up with (there’s probably more, but these stood out).

Who knew that building pure damage lets you kill things faster? Dungeon boss’s die faster = faster dungeon clears. I…see no problem with that? It makes sense?

The Rally System
Because you can just build pure damage, as long as you or someone near you kills the mob, you come back with a substantial amount of health. This allows players to play reckless and go all in without much penalty. I feel like the system needs to be revamped, at least in raids it’s a bit better and you can’t just go full DPS and mindlessly mash your keyboard hoping to rally.

Rally is fine. If you go down 4 times, its instant death. Even 3 you might as well be dead too.

Healing Power Is Broken
Why does it not scale with revive speed? This would encourage people to actually perhaps build it more; maybe allow it to have faster revive speed, or instant revive (maybe too OP, but you’re sacrificing damage for healing so why not?). In general healing power builds don’t feel rewarding because you don’t really ever have an idea of how much you really ARE helping the team or how much you really ARE making an impact. You just see a ton of green numbers.

Only ratios need adjusted for classes that go full support healing. The problem is, this would cause PvP to become even more unbalanced and broken.

Out of Combat Healing
Even if you run past a ton of mobs, you won’t die anyway because once out of combat your health shoots up anyway. And even if you do die, then you can have enough power probably to kill and just rally again. Why not make food a requirement to health regen, or having to go near a camp, or something. That would be more interesting IMO, and would require people to build a bit different maybe?

No. I don’t want to have to wait to get back into the thick of things by sitting down to munch on something or run out of my way to a camp. No. I want to fight, respite, get back into the melee. Downtime is bad.

No Need for Threat Control, So No Tanks
The PVE content is already easy, and even if it wasn’t we don’t any major threat control abilities where we can pull mob aggro on the fly whenever we want. And there isn’t a need to even because everything dies so quickly. That’s why we see tanks only really needed in raids, because they CAN control the threat and those bosses don’t die instantly.

I dont get what you are saying here, sounds like stating the obvious. But do you know how annoying it would be to fight world bosses with taunt? How any tank would be taunting back and forth, causing the boss to spin around constantly? Or move to a wrong position? Players would be fighting each other more than fighting the boss, hence why its only needed in raids. Open world, it doesn’t work.

Those are just my thoughts and opinions, I may be wrong, but let me know yours. I’ve done a video on this topic where I talk a bit more in depth about the topic with more examples below if you’re interested:
https://youtu.be/zJRfWlgN8BU

Yes, much of your points are wrong and don’t take a step back to look at how systems work, or what faults can come to the changes you suggested, much how many people who hate zerker try.

What people need to understand is, PLAYERS ALWAYS GO THE FASTEST ROUTE. How fast can I complete stuff and what do I need to do it? Zerk gear and spec like this? DONE!

They nerfed Zerk gear? What’s the next idea then? Conditions? Spec and geared! DONE!

They nerfed conditions? Assassin gear is now top? Spec and geared! DONE!

In case people haven’t realized it yet, you nerf one meta, a new meta takes its place.

IT. NEVER. ENDS.

I wish Eir had died in-character instead of like a suburban housewife though. I was really disappointed by the choreography of that scene, not so much that she died but the poor manner of it.

She’s fully capable of shapeshifting into a werewolf to fight (which she does in the norn personal story), is a master of wilderness survival, is a norn, and has fought creatures vastly more terrifying than a veteran vinetooth. Then she gets 1-shot without putting up a fight?

It would have been better if we’d found her half-dead from the crash, and then she passed away right there without any combat. I remember she complained about “no food or water for days”… except that again, she’s a wilderness expert? What? And she’s a norn, probably capable of going for weeks in inhospitable conditions, so again… what? And she’s a legendary hero… I mean surviving the basics shouldn’t even be an issue for Eir. Not to mention she goes for a run right after being released, so she’s not crippled. None of that sequence made sense for who and what Eir Stegalkin is.

The other thing is why on earth is Faolain there? Even after all these months, none of it makes any sense. The Open World story was much much better. After the first personal story mission to free Laranthir, it went rapidly down hill. I did like the personal story in Rata Novus though, that was good.

I also have to say, Braham needs to stop behaving like a sniveling human and think more like a norn. Less small-minded personal vendatta, more world-saving legendary dragon slayer. I really wish my norn would take him aside and give him a pep-talk… he needs to think bigger than his personal problems.

Agreed with practically all of this. Eir should have gone down fighting like the warrior she is. Unless if they meant for her pathetic death to intentionally make us angry at Mordremoth, or something. This is not the death I expected Eir to have. It’s pathetic.

I’m actually fed up with the attitudes of nearly all of the DE 2.0 characters. There’s nothing to make me care for them.

Sigh…this again.

Ok. Let’s think about this. She survived a crash okay? And most likely, she didn’t survive it unharmed. So already, she could’ve been half dead.

They crashed in enemy territory. Guess what that means? Enemies attacked her and any other survivors. And I really doubt she was taken prisoner without a fight.

So, injuries from crash, injuries from fights, now being forced to march for probably days, and being denied food and water. It’s not that she couldn’t find it, it’s being held prisoner they kept it from her. And chances are, torture could’ve been involved too.

In summary. We have a norn who survived a crash from thousands of feet in the air, fight off modern for as long as she could till captured. Forced to march with injuries, and denied food and water for days, and maybe tortured. And finally, she was confronted by an enemy she apparently never saw before. She doesn’t know how it fights, or what it’s capable of. She was at a disadvantage.

The way people are describing her, if she had faced any dragon one on one, she’d win

Honestly, I’m fine with content every 2-3 months. I was suggesting that when they had the high hopes of “content every 2 weeks”. It wasn’t going to do well, and it didn’t.

So now it’ll be:
release content that should last the AVERAGE (because some players will race through it) player 2-3 months.

How would you redesign the BL Chest?

I’m going to add, increase the drop rate of the permanent access items. Having the permanent bank access is such a major QoL feature for me that I feel ANet should make these things more common and affordable. The current prices are way too high and supply is too low for such a useful item.

I counter with that if more people bought the chests, that increases the odds of supply on the market, lowering the price then.

First things first, make the chests worthwhile to buy

Season 3 Soon?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Serophous.9085

  • Living Story 3 chapters 2-3 months apart.

So basically no changes there? (what, especially during the 2nd half of season 2 they had more “breaks” then anything else).

  • Lower release frequency intentional, but quality intended to be higher.

hmm… quality of season 2 was pretty low on several occasions (like not telling rythlock the mordrem are already 5 feet behind him, rythlock spending ages to find the first part of the crown, but can’t spend 5min. for the other parts, chasing an egg without an explanation why it’s important WE have it and not caithe, chasing an egg (without explanation) being more important then help out the pact prepare for mordy, introducing characters in a way it’s extremely obvious they’ll die in the next instance, etc…).

Note that they say ‘quality’ will be higher (so they are NOT saying there’ll be MORE content in the updates). Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that there won’t be more content (it’s perfect possible), but it’s anet so I’m not expecting more then what each season 2 update brought untill I see different…

  • 1 new Fractal – somewhere between a dungeon and raid like layout and difficulty.
  • Further fractals to be released later.
  • New PvP maps

Okay, I do fractals maybe once every few months when my guild can’t find anyone to join them (I find fractals overall sort-of boring), but shouldn’t the difficulty be set by the fractal tier? If so then what do they mean with ‘raid like difficulty’? Don’t we already have raids to raid?
I’m (sort of) happy with new pvp maps (although I pvp very little)

Chances are what they mean by the fractal difficulty is how there are certain fractals only at certain levels. Like how Mai Trin is only every 25 levels. So the new one may only be in the 80s or something?

How would you redesign the BL Chest?

My suggestion:

Boosters, tomes, one time access stuff like the bank, repair canister, and merchant, are removed and kept in the shop. Salvage kit, charges, revive orb can all stay since they are still good to use.

Every chest should come with a scrap, with a chance at a full ticket or an additional scrap. If done, Anet can then adjust the scrap to full ticket rate if the prices start to crash. So instead of 10 for one ticket, make it 15, or 20. Its that at least with getting a scrap, the chest doesn’t feel so worthless.

That’s it for me really. Keep the minis, keep the backpack skins, or the random chance for a skin, chance for a key, the super rare stuff, that’s all fine.

I just reallllllly hate it when I open a chest, get “booster”, “Tome”, “canister” and want to scream.

Like real life, people in Tyria come in all different shapes and sizes. While there are some “thicker” options when in your character customization, there’s no “chubby”. I think it’s time for more diverse settings to make your character look the way you want them to look. There’s already a slider for height, so why not a slider for width?

My goal is to make my asura a super cute ball of joy (almost quagganesque), and my charr to look like Clawhauser from Zootopia. But with the current options, I’m limited with sleak to fierce looks.

Sorry, but with the charr and their militaristic society, a chubby charr shouldn’t exist. They’re disciplined first and foremost to be soldiers of war

This would make sense if keys and tickets were easier to obtain, but neither are at a ywhere close to an acceptable level for this to be a positive decision.

We need better key drop rates, all the skins returned and tickets/scraps at an improved chance before going down this route if at all

Imo every chest should have a guaranteed ticket scrap, that way you still need to buy 10 keys to get a ticket so anet still makes money, but you also get a guaranteed ticket.

Not unless they up the amount of whole tickets that drop or lower the amount of scraps needed to make one.

$10 worth of gems could buy you ~2 weapons when converted with the old system thanks to the high value of gems and burn out on BLT weapons resulting in low launch TP prices..

If I can spend $10 (not all of it I know) of gems on keys and not get a weapon then the system is still terribly flawed.

Currently you need 10 scraps to get a complete ticket. If every chest had a guaranteed ticket, getting 10 keys would get you a guaranteed black lion weapon. And there’s still the small chance of getting a full black lion key drop on top of that.

basically, anet has to decide how much one of those weapons costs in real money, and adjust the scraps to one ticket to match that if a garunteed scrap with every chest.

If 10 is too little, then make it 15.

What people hate is, spending the money, and getting NOTHING. You could buy 10 keys, and not get a single scrap, which would be a turn off to buying more.

From my experience, all MMOs have ebbs and flows when it comes to active players. Typically these ebbs and flows coincide with the cycle of new content, i.e. new content = more active players, while old content = fewer active players. As others have said, we’re currently in a lull when it comes to new content, which means there are going to be fewer active players as people who have gotten bored with the existing content are off to the next big thing. As soon as new content is introduced, players will return.

The thing is…once summer hits, this should be the prime time to be releasing content. Its not only Anet that does this, but other video game publisher’s as well. Most kids arent in school, so now they should be playing more. Yet…no new games come out, and mmos seem to just go on hiatus. Its like there’s some threat coming they want to get out of the way for…

What’s that over the horizon? Its getting closer….OH GOD STEAM SUMMER SALE! HIDE YOUR MONEY AND YOUR CREDIT CARDS BEFORE ITS TOO LATE!

So people are just taking a hiatus while Anet works on LS3. I think the only holiday event coming up is the Queen’s gauntlet, which will most likely be a rehash of last years with a few new added awards most likely, but that’s it.

I’m figuring nothing new till september

As such, Every Gem on the Gem Exchange is has been Paid for with real world cash. When you Buy Gems with Gold, you are not buying gems from Anet, you are buying them from another player.

Personally, I don’t like the way the exchange currently works, too much is hidden. I wish it was a lot more transparent about the exchange, more like how the BL worked, where we could set our asking price in both directions.

I think that would resolve any illusions people had about the way this works.

Anyone else annoyed by the lack of Sylvari in the new group? Destiny’s Edge was a big deal because it had 1 of each race, but the new group has 1 Norn, 2 Humans, 1 Asura, and 1-2 Charr (depends on if you count Rytlock as a core member or just a DE member tagging along) and 0 Sylvari. I thought they were setting up Canach to end up joining the group but that never materialized.

I don’t mind having more than 1 (Especially with the Kasmeer-Marjory dynamic), but I hate not having any Sylvari at all. I really think this needs to be addressed; it leaves Sylvari fans feeling left out of the new group dynamic and seems to marginalize the race that was so core to the story. It also leaves the Sylvari elements of the story feeling left out; just imagine what would have gone on with a Sylvari member during The Call that instead got addressed only from the outside.

To be fair and while you have a point, that’s pretty much how Non-Sylvari players have felt for a long time.

LS1, LS2, Expansion, all based on sylvari. Can we move on to the other races now?

Canach defends Queen Jennah. Stop saying that he should be in DE 2.0. ANet knows better and They divide my mind.

… “I defend Queen Jennah” didn’t stop Logan Thackery from being in DE 1.0

And look what happened….

Anise is cunning and can usually predict one’s actions. I wouldn’t be surprised though, if there is something on canach to keep him in line. If anything, Anise more than likely sent him to “help”, then report back any important information he learned, like, lets say, a certain egg…

As for redeeming himself, yes, he can do that, and I do believe he is on the path to do so. The thing is though, I feel he’ll answer to Anise first and then the commander.

Honestly, I don’t care if he does report back. DE2 is working toward a better Tyria, so who cares what he reports? Nothing to hide and there is nothing DE is trying to hide.

I think the more time he spends with DE2 the more he will redeem himself and the more compassion he will gain. As long as he doesn’t loose the snarky banter.

Although this is starting to get off topic, let me put it to you this way using the attitude of “nothing to hide”.

Why did the Zephyrites just tell us about the egg in the first place? Why was it kept secret? Nothing to hide.

Information is key in many things and a highly valuable asset, despite how meaningless it may seem. Knowing that Brahm is a bit emotionally unstable atm could allow Anise to use him in some mission just by bringing up his mother. Oh, Taimi is researching about the dragon’s in a once thought lost city and didn’t report to her superiors? Have that dangling over her head.

Granted, I don’t see Anise doing this to be mean or cruel, but doing it in order to protect the Queen or kingdom in some way.

Because he went and stirred up the karka to attack innocent people and tried to murder everyone?

The reason he is out of jail atm (or even life spared), is because of Anise and to protect the Queen. The reason he even joined us in the first place was to stop us from touching a decoy mordrem set to explode, after already having infiltrated the Pact. After that, he just….stuck around for some reason…

Well, 1. If he is still so terrible why would Anise send him to help, and why when free would he actually not just run away? and 2. He has mentioned in round about ways that he sees things differently now. Is he not allowed to redeem himself?

He may work for Anise, but our characters work for the pact and whatever order we chose yet we are still part of DE2. Why couldn’t Canach be also?

He’s working for Anise as a spy. He was spying at the dinner party, and I believe he even went to “keep an eye” on the Pact by her. Not to mention he helped her sneak in to the meeting the the Tree Mother.

So honestly, do you really want someone like him on the team, when he is reporting everything going on to someone else?

Traits system does not prone build diversity

The way I see it, the trait system isn’t BAD, but its still not great. When I look to build diversity, not only do I include the traits taken, but weapons and skills. Currently, with how traits work, its very restrictive on weapons. Basically, when you go down a line that has “swords deal +dmg” then you are going to be more inclined to use swords, and only swords.

One way to fix this is to classify weapons as you do skills. Instead of just using the weapon name, go by weapon type. Instead of “swords, axes, greatswords”, call them “Slashing”. Now people wouldn’t be forced to use a specific weapon, but can use any one considered in that category.

ArenaNet will be taking my money anyway, no matter what, when the next expansion comes out.

Let’s face it, they’ll be taking most of yours too, even if you deny it now.

They will have to earn my money with the next expansion. I seriously doubt I will pre-purchase the next expansion like I did HoT after my disappointment with it. I threw money at them once and won’t do it again. Anet will have to show me a lot more if they want to earn my money for the next expansion. Even then I’ll probably wait a month or so after release to read up on player feedback.

This is me. I’m not gonna buy the expansion right away. I was in the beta for HoT, but honestly, it was worthless since they hindered the players so much to keep the “surprises” (IE, the cost of specializations, the other zones (could’ve pointed out DS and crashing), etc). Honestly, it felt like JUST bug testing, and nothing else (yes, I understand that is what a beta player should do).

So yeah, the beta left a sour taste in my mouth. The start of the expansion left a sour taste in my mouth (the recent update washed most of it away though), but I am still skeptical.

edit: I’m also going to make a prediction I HOPE isn’t true.

We get LS3 this fall, it lasts us basically till the holidays. And at the end, just like with the end of LS2, trailer for 2nd expansion coming spring 2017.

Please let me be wrong

Que system for server transfering

well, first and foremost, unless you two are planning to do WvW together, then you dont need to be on the same server. Megaservers pretty much cover that.

Other than that, I can get behind such an idea. It may be a bit of a pain to code though

How about you try to dodge his burst so adren hp wont even pop at all ?

Back in the beginning when the gimmick was “Kick, 1KB”, people ran to the forums, calling to nerf warrior, instead of using stability or dodging. And it was nerfed.

I feel history repeating itself
