My Opinion After Today's Pro League

Can’t you, pro players, protest ? Like both teams of each match refusing to fight ?

You could still have a winner by running internal matches to determine the team that will cap a point on stream. That would require trust, while there’s money to win, so I don’t expect much…

But I expect absolutely nothing from Anet for the next 2 months, and that’s just infuriating.

They’d lose sponsers, which means they lose money.

And yet, somehow, DE was able to face off alone against an Elder Dragon with only the help of Glint, and almost kill it.

“only the help of Glint” Kinda think that gives them more than a bit of an edge to have a mother flippin’ Elder dragon on their team when fighting against another Elder Dragon. I imagine DE actually had very little to do with the equation.

What you just said is like someone saying “Yeah this handful of civilians just destroyed a whole tank all by themselves! I mean yeah they ALSO had a tank, but how did they manage that miracle all by themselves!?…(and a tank)”

I get what you are trying to say I just thought it was funny the way you said it XD

Except Glint wasn’t an Elder Dragon, but a champion.

The elder dragons are all supposed to be absolutely mammoth, but they admitted they had a lot of trouble getting zhaitan right and kinda rushed it – was supposed to be so huge that you could see him looking big even in the distance.

Hence, due to limitations at the time, he hangs on the side of an entire mountain while we pound him with lasers.

Round 2, mordremoth… whom we are told that as we traversed the maguuma jungle we were literally walking on his back, and that his roots have grown so deep that there is no way to physically kill him… at least not permamently. Thus going into his mind was the only way.

Which is kinda a bs way of getting around showing us the real dragon. But I suspect that was because they are STILL struggling to find a way to show us the intended truly immense size of each elder dragon, and also find a way that makes sense for us to fight something so big we are less than insects in terms of size.

So…. for the next dragon, how would they go about showing its size and still letting us kill it without getting silly?

And yet, somehow, DE was able to face off alone against an Elder Dragon with only the help of Glint, and almost kill it.

Indeed. I played only PvP back in the days. But some donkey had the best idea to remove soloQ. Since that day I left, and will only come back if soloQ is back… I would be ashamed if I would work at Arenanet…

Pretty much this. I thought maybe I could progress in leagues at least a little bit. Wouldn’t say casual pvper, maybe moderate depending on mood. But nope, done now. Chewing on tin foil is more fun than pvp atm.

And then we’ll watch the pvp community dwindle even more…

yeah, it was real nice watching 2 players on my team sitting in mid during a stronghold match doing nothing.

Oh well, least it ended in 5min

Some strategies involve watching over the resources and while it seems like mid would be a great place to camp to watch what’s going on every where else there are too many obstructions for that to really work. But yeah I can see where two players in mid can be a problem after awhile if the other team is busy defending or attacking your fort. I don’t really care for odd numbers per team because you can’t evenly split up between offense and defense. It’s awesome whenever your champ is being invaded, you play a little defense, then turn the tables and crawl up from a lower score to win afterward.

oh a strat, gotcha…

So when we see on the minimap there are three guarding their base, and 2 attacking, those two were doing a dang well good job scouting while the announcer said “breached our outer gate! At our inner gate! Our lord is under attack!”

Good scouting I guess

If I was in charge of GW2

here are a couple changes how I would change the game:

no levels

no gear stats

no gold

no grind

skins drop randomly in the world so you aren´t forced to play in a specific part of the map. The most desirable skins will have the lowest drop rate, but any enemy can drop any skin. World bosses have specific, unique skins that only they can drop.

Player housing

crafting still gives xp. The higher your crafting level the more things you unlock to decorate your player house.

World completion

getting 100% world completion unlocks a mount that you can customize.

dungeons

dungeons have multiple difficulty tiers. After you complete the first tier you get a specific armor or weapon precursor with multiple stages that fits the dungeons theme. Successfully completing a tier makes the armor/weapon evolve until eventually you get the final legendary form provided you beat the hardest tier.

raids
similar to dungeons with multiple difficulty tiers. Rewards: special mount accessories and a special title that is visible to other players.

There is a special new monument in lions arch with players names on it who have managed to beat the final tier of the raid.

guild raids
same as raids, but rewards are specific guild hall upgrades

guild vs guild

same as WvW, but on a smaller scale. Guilds battle each other. Rewards are special guild hall upgrades

no trading
exception being if you are doing group content and you get a skin that doesn´t fit your class then you can trade it with members in your group for a short period of time.

omg so much grind geesh…
Killing multiple mobs over and over hoping for a rare drop? Grind.
Rerunning dungeons over and over again to level up a skin? Grind.
Crafting? That means I have to run around and gather stuff constantly. Grind.

You said no grind! Why is there so much grind?!

That isn’t Anet’s fault. That’s players enforcing those rules (and the 15k AP requirement is LOL).

It was obvious from the start that once someone found a successful raid comp, everyone would start copying it and trying to enforce it. This was a given.

As for the TD meta, there was a guild helping with the meta last night I believe, people in my guild were talking about it. Its probably the hardest meta in the game at the moment, and people needed to learn it in order to beat it. I’m hoping the guilds that help get more pugs in to learn it will spread and it gets completed more.

I do, and TBH I would like to demand that they up the supply but it won’t help. As for either crafting (major time gate) or buying the mats (major gold cost) I will opt out of it and just ignore that raids exist.

Then be like me and realize “huh, everyone is paying a lot of gold for this stuff….time to cash in!”

100% unsoloable. You will not be able to experience the majority of the content without getting on to organized maps and working together with many other players. 100% map completion is possible solo, as long as other players have already worked together so that you have access to all areas of each map (so yeah nope, not soloable).

I know right? God it was so annoying when i was trying to solo the map. I was doing a HP, and all of a sudden someone flew in, and I was like “Dude! I’m soloing this! Go away!” and he was like “No way dude! I need this too! So I’m helping!”. This happened to me twice so far, so I just finally said in map chat “Okay dorks! I’m going to try and solo this HP here, but since none of you dweebs can stay away, might as well come and ruin it awhile!” And they DID!

Totally way past uncool

Was this supposed to be funny? Because compared to core Tyria maps, there isn’t a single thing you can “solo” in the HoT maps. You have no trouble roaming around core Tyria completing smaller events, hearts, and HP’s on your own. It’s not possible in HoT. You have to organize with other players. You can not stumble around alone like the OP is stating.

Dude I know! I am totally agreeing with you! I wanted harder content that I can totally solo by myself, and other players keep getting in my way! I mean, c’mon! I even ask in map chat and they still ruin my solo experience!

And here the OP is trying to increase that rate of ruining it by having people group up? Man, so bogus it hurts

It’s very saddening for me to come to this revelation. I don’t understand what’s going on. Everything that has been implemented since the expansion has completely stabbed everyone in the back. Ascended crafting has practically tripled in cost; we now have to salvage multiple pieces of those pricey gears for a ball of dark energy for a collection or three.

They talk of keeping Legendary stats the same as ascended because they don’t believe in the “new tier of gear,” yet they practically contradict themselves directly by successfully draining gold and items from the economy and then requiring additional gold and items to be spent on gear that has always been available.

Hate to turn this thread into a bash HoT one, so I’ll stop. Thanks four your input, and I’ll know not to look at another precursor collection. I halfway want to drop Colossus but since I’ve already spent this much on it -.-.

Ask yourself WHY the cost tripled. What do you think caused it? Did it just “happen” out of thin air? Did Anet somehow “remove” people able to craft the ascended mats? No? Then what caused the price to triple?

Players did by wanting to rush and be first. Anet added more areas to the game that needs ascended mats (guild halls, precursor crafting) and the supply remained the same. So in a sense, the price tripled mainly because demand for the mats increased, and the supply is drying up. So anet needs to increase the supply in order to start to balance things out.

Until then, I’m just gonna keep selling all my ascended mats and enjoying the liquid gold and buy what I want.

Guild Halls require ascended (which is new)

Ascended recipes were changed to make Elonian more expensive (done with intent) and made all equipment more expensive.

Raids require (players actually require) ascended

Fractals stopped dropping ascended (by design)

These increases were 90% Anet

Did you read anything past the first line? Don’t think you did.

Also, you forgot precursor crafting. (which was something in my post )

OP, the did state before HoT was launched that the Arena, or any guild hall things, would REQUIRE the Expansion. Don’t blame them for not letting you know, when they did.

As far as a depression? I thought this would be about the state of the economy. I thought this would be about how the game is a gold sink. No, your argument only points to Guild Halls. That’s it. Yes, Ghalls are a gold sink. They are in every game. But that doesn’t make a depression. The economy is crashing super hard. It is very difficult to make money in this game now. But not because of ghalls. Your argument is flawed.

I’m making about 100g a day simply by doing a few material conversions. Then I go and enjoy the rest of the game. Making gold isn’t hard, its just not the way people want to.

Actually, if you don’t care about your guild its easy. Just about anything thats even mildly required for guilds or scribing is sold for obscene ammounts, for those that do care about their guilds, and their guild halls, its not that easy.

EXACTLY – Lone players that don’t really belong to guilds/have a lot of loyalty in terms of how much they are willing to contribute wouldn’t understand. A good portion of these upgrades in the Guild Hall are MANDATORY for viability to WvW, and you can’t just shrug that off. That’s an entire aspect of gameplay that’s been cut-off, and for some players, WvW is the reason they play the game. They have no interest in sPvP or PvE. They have never been punished for this before; why start now?

As for how this is about the economy…HAVE YOU SEEN the costs of mandatory upgrades? They devastated the economy, shaking it to the core. I feel like we’ve gone through over 5000 Elder Wood Planks, 5000 Mithril Ingots and we are only level 18.

To increase our WvW upgrades to claim towers, we need to get Mine Exploration tier 2 as well as upgrade the capacity to the next tier. This is YET MORE Elder Wood, Mithril, and of course already about 100 Bloodstone Bricks. The next upgrades we need are going to require 90g solid of just Major Rune of Holding…

It should be time-gated behind guild quests, not gated behind gold. This is absurd.

Tell me the problem with gating the guild halls behind a limiter of time? It makes it fair to everyone, from 5 man guilds to 500 man guilds.

Whoever said I wasn’t donating to guild too?

No. I haven’t read a single post that is against this.

Some people worry that lfgs will become hidden deep in some subcategory, but a proper seraching and aggregating function can address this easily.

But especially with raids, it makes no sense at all to have them in open world, and nobody would complain if they got their own category.

It doesnt need to be buried deep, its just adding in two more categories:

Living world
– open world content (leave this the same)
Map Zones
– Tyria
*List all tyria maps
– Maguuma Jungle
*list all HoT maps
Raids

I haven’t bothered crafting ascended gear because it costs as much or nearly a precursor at this point. Not very fun.

This is probably my biggest issue with the expansion: Lets DOUBLE the cost of ascended. . . and make it necessary for Raids! woohooo!

Currently the best way to get ascended (cheapest / guaranteed) is to farm the raid. Can’t farm the raid without ascended.

The other part because of ascended mats getting expensive is there is more of a demand. Guild halls needs ascended mats, and precursor crafting, plus ascended weapons and armor.

The problem is, the increased demand greatly, but didn’t improve supply at all. This needs to change somehow.

Definitely a good point. I just had to drop 50 elonian squares into my guild hall for the Workshop 2 upgrade I’m buying tomorrow morning.

I was lucky that several of my members had been hoarding, and were willing to donate.

I haven’t salvaged any ascended gear, but if someone can confirm that they drop ascended mats rather than the basic and the dark matter, that would be great. If they don’t they should, since then people running fractals (when the update hopefully comes in december) can add some supply back into the game.

But if people want to make some easy gold and don’t care about ascended, then yeah, you can make a good bit simply playing and making one ascended piece. The price will drop down eventually once guilds start to finish up the big projects, but until then, the lower end mats and stuff are the best ways to make gold

Im not happy with this goldsink. Im not happy with anything atm in this game. Only thing i look forward to right now is living world 3. Oh and let me just mention that the gems dont drop in price fast enough equal to our gold income.

remember the gem market is based on people buying gems with real money and converting it to gold, thus adding it to a “pool” of gems that people can spend gold on to buy.

In other words, for the price to go down, there has to be more supply (people buy and convert gems to gold) GREATER THAN the influx of people buying gems with gold.

The thing is, we’re all being treated like we have paid the bare minimum for all this, over the last 3 years.

But, some of us haven’t.

Oh I haven’t been playing for 3 years. I’ve been playing off and on for since late January. Seriously try explaining to vets how expensive things are now, and you will get no sympathy. Like dyes? Some of them are 10 to 20 times more expensive than they were when people started 3 years ago. And people just tell me, well don’t buy it. So I don’t get to look cool? Like you? Because I started later? Or how about gold to gem conversions? Also very pricey. Runes? Good ones are expensive and I can’t really go out and farm the materials for them. Some of them I can’t even make because the recipes only existed in certain events.

I have grinded my butt off to get what I have, I have converted over 1500g, 400g worth of dyes and the entire collection of dyes costs 6900, and thrown about 70 dollars at the game(no expansion yet.) And I still feel like I’m behind. I haven’t bothered crafting ascended gear because it costs as much or nearly a precursor at this point. Not very fun.

“and thrown about 70 dollars at the game” Don’t blame Anet for a system YOU created.

Your complains are valid, however you are one of the persons creating this system.

No, they didn’t.

The “system” was already in place and they just utilised it.

How long do you think this game, really, would have existed, if absolutely no one had ever bought anything from the gemstore (or wherever) for real money?

I know they called it “B2P”, but it blatantly was never actually just that.

Otherwise, why on earth can we buy gems and either use them in the gemstore, or convert them to gold?

Because why buy gold from gold sellers which can get you banned or hacked, when you can just buy gold from the company itself?

Eir's Story [Spoilers]

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Serophous.9085

Serophous.9085

Eir, as a NORN, died horribly. The Skalds will not sing about she seemed to accept death without a fight.

Btw, i LOVE how you say that game mechanics should apply to her yet contradict yourself by saying that, if they did, we could’ve simply revived her. Good job when you have no real argument.

Also, no offense, but that is not a fighting stance. She was preparing herself for the blow she knew was coming.

You are absolutely right.
No Norn will ever tell her tale of how she fought off dozens of turned sylvarie on a pact ship while it was attacked by mordremoth in the air.
No Norn will tell how despite being battleworn, she was still able to survive an airship crash.
No Norn will tell how even after being battleworn, surviving a crash, she still had the strength to fight the mordrem that came for her and any other survivors, doing whatever she could to not get captured and protect others until she was finally rendered unconscious.
And no Norn will absolutely not tell the tale how despite being starved and dehydrated and finally rescued, she still put others ahead of herself and even stopped to save Faolin, a villian, who in turned stabbed her for her kindness and self-sacrifice.

You’re right, there is NOTHING redeeming about her in this whole escapade. NOTHING.

And again, do people even listen to the cutscenes and story? Does fall damage exist in the story part of the game? YES. If it didn’t, why does the group wait for kas to teleport them down to the bottom of steep cliffs? Why not just jump themselves? They won’t get hurt!

Brahm didn’t break his leg against Scarlet! He found a shiney copper and was distracted by it!

Farin’s teacher didn’t lose an eye! Eye patches are just cool!

Why did Logan bother capturing Rytlock who was about to fall into lava? He would’ve just swam out and been fine.

Bodies strewn on the jungle floor inside poisonous areas didn’t die from poison. Assassinations don’t happen, I can go on from story parts of the game and piece together how the story world works.

How bout instead of looking at her final moments, look at the rest of her life and decide if it is worthy to a Norn. She fought an elder dragon and almost killed it, and lived. She’s been on more hunts more dangerous than any normal Norn has ever faced, and so on.

As for her stance, yeah, that is STILL a fighting stance, waiting to see what your opponent is going to do and react. Its a defensive stance. We don’t know what she was thinking exactly, but my guess would be a frontal charge, not a tail stabbing. If she thought that, then she figured she’d be able to survive and either counter, or stay defensive until help arrived.

In the end, look at what it took to take her down. They had to wear her down, constantly keep assaulting her till she finally couldn’t fight anymore, with all these deadly events and situations one after another. I mean, they took her to her limit and that was the only way to kill her. That just makes her more kitten in my mind.

Well then, if people we like aren’t suppose to die, and if apparently a forum force of people demanding change can work, I think it’s time I have a heart to heart with J.R.R. Martin…

2. Yes, many believe that her death could have been much, much better. Her death did not have meaning. The creature was not killed, it did not save any lives, and it did not help them escape. She also did not go down fighting like a legend. It also doesn’t matter if she comes back as a druid. This was her chance to die as a legend (even if she comes back, she is only going to die once).

There are several ways the scene could have gone that would have drawn less complaints. For example, they could have shown a scene where Eir dodges one strike in great pain. Next, the creature knocks Brahm down. The creature raises its tail and begins to strike to finish Brahm off when Eir dodges in front of the tail just in time, giving her life to save her Brahm.

Anything, ANYTHING at all where she at least made an attempt to fight rather than stare at the creature and appear to have given up would have been better. She should have gone down fighting, injured or not. She was a legend. A Norn. This is how it would have been.

https://youtu.be/kU5euLJ8pqY?t=76

this doesn’t look like someone who was giving up. And she gets into a fighting stance when the beast roars. At 1:20 we can see this stance better, like she is ready to try and dodge the attack, but fails.

As I said, its not a matter about her being able to dodge, about her being dehydrated, or about her possibly breaking bones in the crash. Read point 1. Its a matter of that they should have made it look like she fought for awhile and gave it her all to save Brahm instead of making it look like she had nothing left and was weak from the start so she just accepted her death. Eir was too important of a character and too strong for Anet to imply the latter.

Your point 1 makes absolutely no sense, as the same logic could be said of Eir herself then if you want to through out what happened previously. We could ignore anything and everything she did up to this point and just say she was a god of tyria suddenly, because we don’t have to justify anything of her past to explain whats going on now. That’s why listening to information beforehand leading up to the scene is important, whether you want to listen or not. So yes, previous cutscenes matter.

As for other members not badly injured, we don’t know that. But we know they WERE captured and placed into those pods and (depending on who you chose) the unconscious one was considered to be in “really bad shape”.

Also, you’re right, they didn’t have to starve her or anything. They could’ve written the story anyway they wanted. So they wrote it like this. And you aren’t happy with it.

So which is it? Can they write it however they want? Or write it however you want?

Ok, so after replaying the story mode on another character, I paid more attention to this scene.

First, the fact still remains that she most likely got wounded after the crash. You can argue about our reality vs the games, but the game has its own reality as well. And since we can die from fall damage, so can she be hurt or killed by it too.

More on her injuries, we can assume there is some internal damage from before, but its kinda hard to show that from the outside other than bruising. But we do see she has a black eye and blood on her face. Also, with the game’s rating, there is only so much they can show.

Next up, being starved and dehydrated for DAYS. We don’t know the exact number since the crash and finding her, so we know it has to be 2+. Attribute to that they were forced to march as well, with injuries, and hungry.

Finally, count the newest injury from Faolin stabbing her. We’ve seen her take a hit before, and pretty much shrug it off or recover pretty fast. Here, she seems to just struggle to pull out the thorn. Heck, I think the most unbelievable part was her perfect aim at this point hitting Faolin.

Now, the creature approaches behind her, and she nods to Brahm, knowing. Now, what does she know? She is going to die? Or understanding the creature is behind her? Well, Brahm shouts it, the creatures falls behind, the screen shakes, so it wasn’t quiet, so it leads me to she was starting to accept her fate that she may not come out of this alive (note, NOT giving up).

Now, she turns and faces the beast, and its the look of determination. In other words, YES she is ready to fight despite her condition, or at least go down fighting.

And then she gets stabbed with the tail. Maybe if she was at her peak condition, it may have grazed her and been a moderate wound. But anet was clearly showing she wasn’t anywhere near peak condition, and in pretty bad condition. She was most likely expecting a front attack with the head or claws, not the tail.

Now, as for everyone pointing out “but she’s an action hero! She did this and this in the book!”, let me ask you this: What makes you think she DIDN’T do that already to stop being captured, or to help Pact members flee as they were surrounded? I am gonna assume she gave it her all to take down the Mordrem that captured her, because chances are at the time, she probably thought they just wanted to kill her. So she already went all out before hand and was STILL taken down eventually.

To sum up:
Fighting turn sylvarie on the ship, surviving a crash, fighting for her life against the mordrem, starved and dehydrated for days while being forced to march, puncture wound from Faolin. I’m sorry, her being able to fight that beast and survive would’ve been really cheap and basically saying “yes, none of the main NPCs will die.”

If something like this doesn’t kill one, then what would? A drago- oh….

You’re adding real logic to an MMO. By that logic, if an Elementalist hits me with any fire spell, i’m screwed.

Does fall damage exist in the game? Yes? Then it applies to her too.

Can bones be broken? Yes. Remember, Brahm got his leg broken by Scarlet with some explosion confined into a room.

So then, going by the game’s logic, she is NOT going to survive a fall from the canopy height unscathed, and then never have any of those wounds treated. As for being starved and dehydrated, if that wasn’t a big deal, then why would it be mentioned at all?

you also have to remember that there is a difference between game play mechanics and story mechanics at points. Because if that difference didn’t exist, then we would’ve just stood over her body and rubbed her till she felt better.

Once again. 2 non-beta clients for windows. 0 non-beta clients for macs. STOP ADVERTISING THAT IT IS MAC USEABLE WHEN IT CLEARLY ISN’T B/C OF CRASHING AND D/C IF YOU’RE KEEPING IT IN BETA ANET.

What two non-beta for windows? I only see one….
