I have unlocked all elite specs and Reaper comes up tops, that is until ANET nerfs it. :P
Oh, I can see it coming. But most of the problem is, the reaper just meshes so well with the other trait trees, just as Daredevil does too. Some professions with their new specializations fit so nicely, but when I look warrior…its such a mess
Reaper has made me hang up my warrior. It just does everything so much better than that profession now. Faster might stacking, faster stacking vulnerability, better shouts, interupts, survivability….there is just no reason to play a warrior anymore.
Its really really sad.
So, I’ve been a main warrior since launch. Going through all the ups and downs. My second profession was Necro, which I played on and off.
During the BWEs, I was more focused on warrior, so I didn’t see the power coming from Reaper at the time. But now on live…I feel like I’m playing the warrior I’ve always wanted.
I’m stacking might better and faster than my warrior and keeping up vulnerability almost 100% of the time.
Now what do I get more than I do on my warrior? I get damage reduction via minions (with Rise) and spectral armor, Suffer (or consume conditions) for condition removal, And “Nothing can save you” for boon ripping, vulnerability, and unblockable attacks.
When I look back at the warrior, the trait lines seem like such a mess (I really don’t like the discipline, but I like the end talents and faster weapon slot). And the shouts are just single target.
Anyone else feel this?
Before asking my real question, is there any place where to post quick questions? cuz sometimes I have questions that could be answered easily and I dont want to take up some space in the forum. Is there any place for this matter?
So my real query:
So I just started playing and for a week now I never get past level 11. this is because I keep on trying to find what class I want to main. Cuz sometimes I find a class I want but then keep on thinking if that class is suited for pvp. So I just found out yesterday that in pvp..everything is balanced(I mean everyone is in the same level and all skills unlocked.).So does this mean there is no point of leveling a character that was intended just for pvp? Like unlike other mmos that you grind and level up your toon in pve for pvp. Or is there any reward/purpose to use a pvp intended toon in pve?
First part of your question, Yes, the players helping players forum answers a lot of questions.
And yes, if you go to the spvp, you are automatically treated like lv 80, everything unlocked, so no leveling required.
As for rewards, you earn them via reward tracks
yep, cant load into the game after selecting a character, and slow forums
then you would fill up and get 2-4 items in overflow like usual when you open bags normaly and stop at 248-249 bags.
What was the problem again?
again, its not that simple.
you’re imputing a command to “OPEN ALL” not “open a few”, so when it opens all, its gonna open them all. that means the overflow is gonna get massively filled.
Now course, they could try programming with “calculate empty inventory space, open bags till filled, excess put in overflow”. but then you are gonna have to calculate this for each bag, as there aren’t just champ bags in the game, this would have to be done seperately for almost every bag in the game. Not to mention, each bag also contains a different amount of items.
So, its just easier to have it on something that is consumable, rather than producing more items
yep, I always hit space bar now when in tyria only to remember “wait…no gliding”.
And I’m JUST training myself to not hit the look key anymore
Champ bags could be tricky as the contents would be taking up inventory space. You would have to calculate what comes out of the bag with different armor pieces, the dust, materials, etc.
Imagine having only 3 inventory spots and right clicking a stack of 250 bags.
Seems to me like a pve spec… actually most of these new specs looks like they where designed for pve….. (daredevil, bzerk etc)
daredevil in pvp is amazing. I can constantly dodge and keep spamming conditions, while rarely (if ever) being touched.
Channel vigor, get back endurance and heal
Signet of Agility, refill endurance bar instantly
Constant swiftness
Constant Vigorits hilarious
And what you need to pwn such build is a Necro with Staff.
if they have a necro, or even a necro with a staff at all

Since they aren’t getting any excess gold or anything like that, but only cheating themselves of any sense of reward by getting the Masteries done by playing slower, then it’s probably not an exploit even though undoubtably unintended. However, they shouldn’t complain later that there’s nothing for them to do in the new expansion.
But….you know they will complain nonetheless
I’ll admit I hated Trahearne, but moreso for the personal story turning more into about him than about us. Him as the character…dull at times, but not that bad.
As for the ending, it could be seen from a mile away. Mord gets ahold of one of the First Born, leader of the pact, and a powerful weapon. Yep, his backup plan is to plant (ha!) himself inside him and take full control of like an avatar, so we are gonna have to kill him. I mean, at least Mord wasn’t stupid enough to wait around to do it, he just did.
So yes, sorry your hero died, and people are upset that Eir died too. Heck, for me, the one death that almost brought a tear to my eye was Scruffy’s!
Yeah, that’s right. I almost cried over the death of a hunk of metal.
Deal with it
Ya know, I said before that they wouldn’t kill anyone off anyone in destiny’s edge, guess I was proven wrong.
As for her death and how “she would’ve fought back!” arguement, I don’t think its that easy. Thinking outside of a game, look at her condition. She had to survive a crash from the air, and pretty much had no medical treatment. She was then captured, starved and dehydrated, not to mention kept with Faolin in the same cage. So, as for transforming, she probably didn’t have the power or endurance to do it after going through so much crap. Then throw in getting stabbed. She just had nothing left and accepted her fate.
Now, if I remember correctly, she was basically the one trying to revive destiny’s edge throughout the dungeon stories. So, i guess her dying could be leaving kitten in the group again, like it did with Snaff and the group threatening to split apart, again. Which, it may happen with Destiny’s Edge 2.0 now. Heck, Rytlock even says “this new group is as good as us”. If anything, I think an official passing of the torch is coming.
I still felt bad for her death, but heck, I felt more sadness when Taimi had to sacrifice Scruffy.
Looks more like self inflicted grind to me
People want the new stuff now to play with, tinker around with until they get bored. Then demand new content immediately in that short period of time.
Arguably yes, but Anet did this to themselves when they locked Fractal and Legendary Mastery behind xp grind.
First I will say that I didn’t like the nerfing of dungeons. If anything, after the first run, rewards should be reduced according of each repeated run of a path. And then added a Dungeon mastery path.
if anything, I will assume the thought process to the tyria masteries was “well, the people who like running fractals will continue to do so and get the XP that way, and this way people wont abandon the old world to level up these masteries.”
But, players being players realized, “hey wait, I can get this a lot faster by just grinding the dungeons of infinite spawning mobs!”
So one of three things is going to happen:
1. Players will grind this out, get their masteries, then complain about “nothing to do”.
2. Players will grind this out, get their masteries, and not complain (i laughed as I wrote this).
3. Anet is going to nerf this, thus providing another kick at dungeons, in which the players will complain once more and play the victim.
Looks more like self inflicted grind to me

I got mine this morning, course I was using a bunch of XP boosts.
Basically, you want to do Dry Top, since SW can be a hit or miss if enough people are there. At least in Dry Top, its timed.
Yep, I get to the final fight with mord, and its buggy as hell.
Sometimes the npcs he summons, you deal no damage too unless you CC them first. And there is no break bar.
Sometimes when you need to get into the air, if you jump in a stream, you won’t get the boost it gives you automatically, thus you have to run and pray you dont die before you get to another.
Sometimes his attacks don’t even reset. I was fighting him in phase one with phase three attacks.
Sometimes platforms won’t respawn, so its autolose
You companions will refuse to attack him in the final phase. I much enjoyed Brahm just staring into the void
In the final phase, activating the rift won’t stun him, so you have to make sure you have enough CC to break the bar, or you can do nothing.
But worse of all…WORSE OF ALL, was fighting through all those bugs, getting lucky, finally downing him……AND YOU CAN’T STOMP HIM. He goes immune and you CAN’T KILL HIM.
And if you try to kill yourself to try again, you just float there at the bottom all gray like, until you just go back to the character screen.
GG Mord, you win, you are unkillable
I like the final fight, but the bugs…my god do they make it harder than intended…
Sometimes the platform with the rift doesnt spawn, making it impossible to do
Sometimes the enemies cannot e dmg’d no matter what
And you can’t launch into the air when you need to to survive.
The bosses attacks dont reset, I’m fighting phase 1 with phase three attacks.

How is this different from personal story requiring a certain level? Both are achieved through EXP gain. To me this feels natural, and they realized and removed the only high requirements mastery for story.
This is no different from Personal story, except the expansions story is WAY better.
you could level up in multiple different zones, doing many different things (even just crafting, or doing dailies, or doing world bosses, everything grants exp), however when it comes to HoTs masteries (at least those that matter for HoT story anyway), you’re locked into solely only doing very few events or killing mobs (HoTs zones only as well by the way) in order to grind masteries in order to see more of the story.
Very few events? There are plenty events going on, and mutliple maps to boot. The problem is, everyone is just staying in the first area and not spreading out. Heck, I would like to see a successful Tarir map event, if more people would just leave the entrance zone.
I believe the itzel vendor sells it, which requires the mastery, 500(?) gears, and gold
xp is just players time and Anet have no problem with wasting that. they gave us 5 mill xp to grind for the itzel poison mastery then after me and probably lots of other players spend hours grinding out the xp they change it. At the moment i can only think of one word to some up how i feel DISGUSTED.
I wouldn’t feel disgusted. Lets face it, eventually you’ll be getting it anyway, since at least one mastery point I know requires you to have it to access it. I’m not sure if there are other areas barred off yet by vines, but if you run into one, you can just go on through. Not to mention, the next one is to fight the champion once a day for a reward. So there’s that too.
Its more akin to just doing something out of the order you were planning.
This guy…
You want content that was made for groups of 10-500 people, to be changed and accommodated to fit your player housing prospect?
Hey man, I hate to break it to you, your in the wrong line of game. Your asking to remove the MMO out of MMORPG and that just isn’t gonna happen.
And before the obligatory “well I’ll just go find another game then and see how you like the loss of money!”, business-wise, even if there was an even number of guilds that were 3 players+ and under 3 player, you wouldn’t even make a dent in profit. So go ahead, honestly I encourage you to find an single player RPG and if you feel it lacks community, then join a forum of said RPG. Enjoy.
Dude learn to read, I didn’t ask for solo content, I said it needs restrictions lifted, I don’t give a rats kitten if I fail trying to earn my own guild hall I just want the option to try to be mine and not come down to a minimum 3 people bull kitten
Even if this restriction was removed, you would never get your guild hall solo or with a friend. Ever. Its a timed event, in a huge space. You need to be able to split up to deal with hordes of mobs and hit specific areas, and then kill a legendary boss.
And what would happen if the restriction was removed? You’d be here complaining the same thing “its impossible to get to event and event with my two person guild! So unfair!”
So no, either expand the guild, or join a bigger one.
Hey all,
I just wanted to pop in here real briefly to let you all know that the team discussed the complaints we’ve been seeing here about the masteries gating story progression, and with tomorrow’s patch we’ll be removing the Itzel Poison mastery gate from chapter 14 “Sign Cutting”. If you were already on this step, when you next log in, your story step should automatically advance as though you had earned the mastery. If you haven’t reached this point, you shouldn’t notice anything different (apart from the fact that you can progress the story faster). If you’ve already advanced past this point by earning the mastery, well there’s just no other way to say it: you’re a rock star, and you deserve an ice cold beverage and a toast from the story team at Arenanet! :-)
I don’t have an exact ETA on when this fix will go Live, but we just wanted to get the word out there ASAP so that if you’re currently on this step, you might want to wait as you will have the ability to bypass this gate sometime tomorrow.
We wanted to use mastery gating as a way to try and prepare you for the challenges ahead the deeper into the Maguuma that you went, but we realize that in this particular scenario, it ended up not being the experience we wanted for all of you and we wanted to correct it.
See you in the jungle!
….
I expect that drink and meal in my mail by tonight
Ok, found one in ebonhawke, and it basically looks like the normal icon for a vendor.
Could these guys get a different icon? heck, make it purple to signify karma
So, how do you find these vendors in the maps? I know they travel, but do they have special icons that you can see in map view? I assume you have to be in the zone. I was just WP around to different ones looking at the maps, but not seeing anything out of the ordinary.
Why on Earth would you want to short-cut the game to get to “the good stuff”?
It’s just another classic example of the millenial mindset, I don’t usually say that word, but this here is just way too good to pass.
So the new stuff came out yesterday, we must have the new stuff now, no matter what, NOTHING can keep us from getting it RIGHT NOW, not tomorrow, not after playing, pretty much anything that’s not-now is wrong.
As a millenial, please don’t generalize me with the other millenials. I’m enjoying it as is atm
stop skirting around the answer when you already know it.
Its farmed for a reason with its volume of mobs and events. Now add the xp you get from it to masteries and you can see the problems. So they just ommited it
Well, really, can you name a successful video game cartoon?
True, we got pokemon (which is still going…my god…) and the only one I can think of that I liked was Sonic SatAM. The rest now when I look back…I shudder…
Not to mention that there really hasn’t been much of a successful video game movie yet. So, the reason there really hasn’t been a push for one, or even mention, is basically its too big of a risk. Heck, Blizzard is taking that risk right now, and probably a lot of companies and movie producers are waiting to see how that even turns out.
Even worse, now that this is mentioned Uwe Boll is probably getting ready to ask Anet for the rights as we speak…
1. Call in work Dead
you forgot to tell your family and friends you were dead too :p
how bout….100 gems to post on the forums? Lots of people seem eager to throw money at anet, this seems the best way.
Despite the buggyness, it was an epic fight. Rebalancing it for a 5 man fractal boss would be slick. I mean let’s face it, we need more boss fractals, and this would be an amazing one.
I want to chase it through the forest, knocking down trees, dropping the side of a mountain on it, survive the hatchling death spiral, and do the epic stomp again. Doing it under the influence of instabilities would be a really interesting challenge.
Please new fractal team. Make it so after HoT launch!
Rebalancing so it doesn’t take 3+ hours? Lol
Most of the time sink in it was the camp events if I remember right. Make the camp events boils down to a single mob wave (say a champ karka with respawning elites, kill the champ to move on) and you’re left with just the fun bits (chasing it down and forcing it in to the lair for the final battle) and that would put it right around ten minutes or so if its HP was appropriately balanced for 5 players I think. if the camp events were all champs, the loot would be at a scale that compensated for the slightly longer clear time than maw/mai trin/duo
Alternately, you could just have it skip the camp events altogether and make the mob wave sections just a single wave of mobs.
most of the time sink of that event was the multiple “okay, now clear ANOTHER lengthy mob spawning section!”
Really, what was fun about the boss was the chase section. The actual boss fight once you got to the bottom was pretty meh, so spreading it in to linear HP sections (so phase 1 has just as much hp as the final phase) would pace the fight pretty short, but it would still be a nice multi-phase encounter, and unique among fractal bosses as a moving boss fight.
All I remember is what seemed like hours with the entire map attacking a damage sponge while praying you don’t get D/C’d.
This and then logging on and off again to get into a different overflow to fight again and exploit the loot drops

The big bomb will come when HOT actually launches and players see just how much time/effort and money is involved in creating a precursor – the QQ’ing will be Biblical.
“What do you MEAN I have to go to the Queen and dance for her?! Anet! Stop making me GRIND!”
If it was just a case of a mini, or some singular unique skins, i might perhaps stomach it. In this case i just can’t stay silent.
I agree with that. The best solution in this case is to add legendary armor through other types of content, one such example that was given once was higher level fractals (or lower, just put it behind pristine/fractal relics)
WvW – maps would be constantly full, people (including people who normally ONLY do WvW) would complain that they can’t get in to farm for the legendary gear. If you try saying “EoTM” karma train hello.
sPvP – remember raids get a week lockout, how can that apply to sPvP? If you put it on a track, people can just constantly play to keep grabbing it, faster than someone doing a raid. Not to mention, you would be rewarded legendary armor for losing technically if its based on a reward track. Not very fair to the raiders who lose and just get nothing.
PvE – I thought raiding was PvE..but ok…a thread complaining about grind, wants to throw up a suggestion to add grind for legendary in PvE. Make it random from boss drops won’t cut it, people will complain, collect XXXX items, people will yell about grinding, not to mention “I already have my legendary gear and just keep getting more and more XX tokens! Anet, create a sink for them!” Plus, again, the rate would have to be close to the aquisition rate a Raider would get.
Fractals – tokens? (see PvE). higher level fractals? “WTS Fractal lv XX for legendary gear you only get once a week for 100g!” and then the reports: “I sent my gold and was kicked! Didn’t get my legendary gear!”

Hahaha it’s the ‘half a year of notice’ discussion again, featuring the exclusivity police of course. Help, others will be able to wear my super exclusive professional PvP stuff!!!
The best thing, as always, is that no one seems to ask for free handouts but said exclusivity police is immediately trying to make it out like people are.
I should add that I obtained most of those super mega exclusive omgprestige skins myself back in the days. And absolutely not with super elite skilled PvP play, it was only later that I took the time to explore that area of the game. No, a lot of my super awesome exclusive omgprestige skins came from cheap random boxes that could be bought with glory, during the month(?) before the announced PVP/PVE wardrobe merge. Note that the word ‘merge’ does not reply removal of any kind.
Newer players should have a chance to earn those super omg mega prestige elite skins as well. Especially since removing them from the wardrobe was obviously an oversight or bug.
Most likely since their names matched some of the names in the pve area, they got over written (i believe masquarade was tribal or something in the pvp).
You realize a lot of the people saying to bring back the missing armors aren’t saying to bring them back in PvE, but PvP, right? Like, a rewards track?
Well, masteries can both be vertical and horizontal progression.
Horizontal as it unlocks regions, poi or something else…“cosmetic” ones.
Vertical as it makes your char able to reach and “win” endgame content – raids,
just as if it was AR or any other numeric parameter.
The only thing they said you would really need for raids is gliding, that’s it. Which you should really unlock for the new zones anyway.
The rest of the raid can be beaten without the rest of the masteries. Just having the additional masteries makes it EASIER since you’ll be able to exploit the benefits around the boss raid.
(puts on hipster glasses)
Was doing pink day since oct 9, 2012. No one cared or asked about it then. But now its a thing.
Sigh…me and my friend were doing this back on Oct 9, 2012 (going by the video recording date). 29 views…
NOW its a thing…
lol, or how about, engage people with an exciting and complex story. Drive the action with interesting and varied encounters. Allow them impactful and epic choices, and at the end give them something that is appropriate for the time spent and also enhances the player’s enjoyment of the experience.
Love the idea. Would play it. What would we do the second week or month?
Why, play it again of course! For the same rewards and everything.
You can’t add different rewards because then that would FORCE people to play a second time, thus making it a GRIND. And we can’t have that.
It’s certainly a different picture of life at Anet than some people try to paint. Not really surprised to be honest. I’ve always had the utmost respect for Anet as developers.
It’s almost like devs are just human, have normal lives outside of developing a game, similar problems, and so on.
Just prepare yourself to try and acquire huge amounts of gold and/or tier 6 mats.
To farm/grind a tier 6 map requires around an hour or two for metal/wood (if you know the spawn points. Longer if you don’t).
You’ll need to farm the same map about 30 times to get the required items.
On average one out of 8 monsters that spawn powerful blood drop that mat. You’ll need to kill enough for 5×8 or 40 of that mat. That means killing 320 of a single type of monster. Between finding and killing those mobs that’s about 1 every 10-15 minutes that’ll drop the mat you need. That’s 6 hours plus the 60 hours for the tier 6 special mats.
So only 66 hours of grinding to get he tier 6 mats for ascended. Then you’ll need the time gated mats which you get one per day. Then to mak the ascended mats, you’ll need to farm an additional 120 hours. Or pay 500 gold.
500 gold is about 100 bucks at the gem exchange rates.
This is obviously Anet’s new revenue model. People get partially through farming for mats, get sick of it and buy gems to get the gold to buy the rest at auction.
PAY TO WIN….
yippeee
You don’t know what pay to win is, do you?
Pay t win is a system in which additional payment is required in order to play on an equivalent scale to others that are rated as “competitive”
I posdted this on another thread, but I’ll post it again here so maye you’ll understand why i feel it is a pay to win systemok, just so you guys are aware.
exotic to ascended isn’t merely 10%it’s a difference in 30 in the primary stat on amulets and 20 on rings and accessories
The a change of 5-15 on armor and weapon stats.that’s a 150 point increase per stat. That’s equivalent to ten levels of level gain.
so
lvl 80=blue gear
lvl 85=green gear
lvl 90=yellow gear
lvl 100=exotic
lvl 110=ascended
lvl 115=legendarythats what is equivalent to a 30 level stat difference between a character with standard gear and a character with ascended gear.
Try fighting a level 50 as a level 80 and you’ll know just how big a difference equipment stats make. Heck, fight a level 70, thats only a ten level difference and you’l still wipe the floor with them.
That’s not pay to win….
pay to win is paying for something that is ONLY available via a cash shop that gives you a clear advantage over other players. Example being there is a really powerful weapon via cash shop that can only be bought with cash and is better than anything else in the game. Or, same item is locked in a chest and you have to dish out tons of dough for a random chance to get said item. GW2 isn’t that.
By your logic, every single mmo with different tiers of gear is pay to win; WoW, Rift, FFXIV, etc. Don’t have the latest expansion with the next tier of gear? Pay to win.
as for “competitive”, competitive how? PvE is competitive? Since when?! Sure we are getting adventures with scoreboards, but gear isn’t a factor there. So when does stats in PvE make it suddenly competitive?
Oh, a level 50 fighting a level 80…so we must be talking WvW, where anet isn’t going to focus much on profession balance and focus that part on spvp and pve. Oh, but its bigger equipment stats? Duh? I’ll have more traits unlocked and more skills available to use. Fight a level 70? Same issue.
Heck, there were people running around (and still are) naked except for weapons, killing people in WvW. If it was pay two win, the guy with the gear = auto win no matter what, unless he faced someone else who paid.
So again, you do not know what pay to win is. Play a game that is actually pay to win, and you’ll see a difference.
Pay to win is a philosophy of game design.
There are many levels of pay to win.
What you classify as pay to win is just the most extreme end of the scale.
Pay to skip is still part of the pay to win spectrum.Anet is taking a much more stealth approach. They claimed at launch that the gem store would only be for cosmetic items, or possibly exp boosts (which were sort of ok, because you’d till need to complete quests and missions to get items). They also claimed, "just buy the game and once you hit lvl 80 you’ll have the best gear in the game, and the power curve would be flat. "
Then they introduced ascended gear. Which wasn’t too bad, because pvp was balanced without worrying about those stats.
This time it is VERY different. I paid 50 bucks for HoT and now I am being told ascended gear will be pretty much required.
I don’t have full sets of ascended, so I either gotta grind/farm or pay out an additional 50 bucks for the gem to buy at the gem store.
Therefore…PAY TO WIN
pretty much required still doesn’t equal required. Thus, not pay to win.
Also, how do you win in PvE?! Especially in a game where its not suppose to end? Where is the winning!?
the amount of salt i sense from this thread could drain every user in this thread dry.
seriously, this idea of ascended and legendary gear ‘grind’ has been beaten to death already. beating the HoT area completely is nothing new – this is a simplified version of World Completion. You make it a grind when you actively seek out the item rather than getting it through passive collection. by the time i decided to get a legendary i had enough karma to buy about 500 obsidian shards because i focused on other things, to say nothing of gold or other legendary crafting materials. just because it’s there doesn’t necessarily mean you HAVE to do it right now. I get some people have the completionist mentality (which is fruitlessly served and an arduous torture if you play an MMO due to updates) but that need to complete can be directed elsewhere for the time being, such as doing the requirements for every precursor and collecting each of the ones you want first.
and don’t give me that BS about ascended or bust to be competitive. Exotic gear is stupid easy to get these days with how common exotic materials are nowadays, and that’s only a tier lower. if you can’t live with exotic gear then the fault lies in your mentality more than the system.
Pretty much this. I don’t know how it started, but other players are starting to butcher the normal terms nowadays to suite their own needs, and the definitions are getting ruined.
It seems some people don’t know what a white knight really is anymore, except that if someone tries to defend something from the company when it does make sense, its sudden white knight.
Pay to win is suddenly be attributed to cosmestics and to PvE (of all places…)
Grind has had many definitions, but the first and foremost was mostly to get to the next level in a game or to do something repeatedly just to advance. Everything else was called a ‘farm’ but now farm isn’t used anymore and its all “grind”.
You don’t know what pay to win is, do you?
It’s when you pay cash money to gain ingame advantage, like to shortcut a tedious ingame process.
No….that’s pay to skip, which I will admit GW2 does. Pay to win is “I paid for an item only available in the shop for just cash and get a clear advantage over non-payers”
