Meta will always exist but what the Meta is changes based on new additions to the profession.

However, current Meta issue is that majority of the meta is mostly Zerker, Zerker, and Zerker with the mindset that Zerker is the only way to go if players want to get content done.

Hopefully HoT content starts leading to other builds outside of Zerker. Of course that may mean introducing mobs and fight that would punish players for going full Zerker and not having any Vit and Toughness in their gear set.

World – unchanged, because anyone can help anybody. And for major events where you have 50+ people, vit and toughness mean nothing with the scaling.
WvW – unchanged
Spvp – unchanged
Dungeons – unchanged
Raids – will need a support, no zerk meta.

Did anybody bother to read what they want?

http://www.sagaftra.org/interactive/what-we-stand-for

Can we clarify whether the $3300 bonus is for the 8 million copies milestone, or for each 2 million milestone?

Either way, it’s not terrible to be paid an extra $3300 if 8 million units are sold. Although I do wonder, $3300 sounds like the monthly wage of some employees in the studio. Are they getting bonuses as well?

I think the demands are being blown out of proportion.

With that said, I am bothered by the idea that people like Jennifer Hale and Nolan North, which are already raking in the money, would be getting some more money on top of what they already demand.

I think its every 2 million, they get the bonus (2, 4, 6, 8 capped). But again, this can have other implications, such as games going on sale (steam sales anyone?), indie game devs that may sell a game for $5 – $15 could be hit a bit harder with the payment as well (if they manage to afford someone from this in the first place though), which again, we would have to know the gaming companies expenses, and so on to really be able to draw a conclusion on the exact numbers.

Two, people are jerks in video games and the internet, welcome to 2000.
Three, as posted above, there was plenty of people being mean or rude before F2P was even announced. Heck, wasn’t there a thread before about elitist zerker’s in LFG being toxic a week before F2P was announced?

If anything, you and starting this thread is just contributing TO what you are complaining about.

I personally love my female sylvari engineer’s voice, so I hope it doesn’t hurt any future voice recordings.

You just have to compare American voice actors to Japanese voice actor to realise that many American voice actors are terrible!

I refuse to watch anime dubs, firstly due to the obvious americanisation of the original animes’ dialogue, and second american voice actors have no feeling, or emotion when they do their lines.
With Japanese voice actors, you can tell they are putting in the effort to make the character seem real. American voice actors are just drone people reading off a script. Just no love for the work they are doing.

Do forget a strike, they need a pay cut!

Just gonna leave that there for you.

GetOverIt.

The problem for me at least isn’t a simple translation but changing entire episodes, references, and even relationships (like the infamous Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune change.) In Japanese Dragon kitten there’s blood, alcohol, and other things that get edited out in the American version. I watched a Japanese version of Dragon kitten and felt so cheated by the (official) dubbers.

This is off topic, but I’ll just chime in real quick…

What you are pointing out isn’t so much as the fault of the dubbers’, as it is the culture at that point in time. Lets face it, if the Sailor Uranus and Neptune weren’t changed, that show would’ve been canceled the same day. It just wasn’t socially accepted at the time.

The same thing with DBZ and DB, etc. They had to be changed to abide by laws in place. If not, the show doesn’t get to air. Which would you rather have happen?

On topic:

Going by the article linked above:

  • Vocal Stress - I can agree to this “two hour session” idea, but there is one problem; what constitutes “vocally stressful”? Yelling a lot? a deep raspy voice? This can vary from actor to actor, so a good clear definition needs to be set.
  • Stunt Coordinator - honestly, the story given here is just based on human stupidity. Its like someone went to lift weights without a spotter, and got hurt. You just don’t do that. In all honesty, if you are going to want the voice actors to perform stunts, with a stunt coordinator, then why not just hire a stunt man and the voice actor just…voices? (could be misunderstanding this though)
  • Transparency - Yeah, sure. They get to know the real name of the project instead of the code. I have no problem with this, and yes, you want to know what you are getting into instead of just waltzing in. They are also asking for reasonable ideas for sessions, the problem can come though, with beta testing (like in MMOs), where if a line doesnt go right, or something in lore changes, another session may be involved. So, it should be forgiving if the company says 4, and it ends up being six, or a call back to redo a line.
  • Performance Bonuses - saved this for last on purpose. If you are comparing a programmer to an actor, you’re doing it wrong most of the time. Yes, there are contracted programmers who come in, do a job, then cut loose after launch, which is sad. But others stay on and continue working on the game, or other games from the company. Same thing for voice actors, in that they fulfill their contract, then basically cut loose, even movie actors deal with this when finding work. They need to find someone to take them, if not, they aren’t earning money.

So, this part…yeah I agree with, in looking back at how games are now not only being a gameplay entertainment, but also the story aspect as well, when VA is involved. I mean, yeah, I can look at some games without VA and say how they are a good game, but when VA is involved, the characters just seem more alive and I get to know them better. Just like movies going from silent to talking. It just starts to become more popular.

Now what needs to be really looked at are the numbers. If I am understanding it correctly from whats posted, if the game sells 2 million, the VA gets an additional $3300 from the company. This is where the negotiating is really going to go on at. It could change to 3 million and a lower pay, or it could stay where it is, but some of that money from the bonus goes to pay for the stunt guy they wanted. Or, they could get the full amount, but they agree to X number of re-recording sessions if needed for that game (such as an MMO).

4 Weeks left, still missing a lot of info!

Serophous.9085

We have 4 weeks until the launch of HoT! We were told there would be the following information revealed before launch:

1. Legendary weapon blog
2. Legendary weapon Twitch presentation
3. Guild Hall leveling Info
4. Druid presentation
5. BWE 3+4
6. Info on legendary armor
7. Info on raid rewards
8. Info on raids in general
9. Launch trailer (tomorrow!)
10. Specialization runes/sigils

We should be getting the druid presentation today and tomorrow, and I suspect a BWE next weekend, but how about the other info? Looks like it’s going to be a busy 4 weeks!

I’m personally most excited for the legendary weapon info, can’t wait to see what we get.

If I missed anything they told us they’d talk about before launch let me know and i’ll add it to the list.

1. This information is being purposefully withheld to prevent markets from skyrocketing before the release. In other words, the markets will skyrocket during release.

2. If you mean by how they look, ok. If you mean how the mastery will work, see 1.

3. Same as one, because they are gonna needs mats to progress.

4. Druid is happening at Twitch

5. Most likely only getting one more beta weekend, either next week or the following, thats it.

6. So far, gonna operate as current legendary weapons. Most likely available by raids first. Maybe other areas later.

7. Probably will learn about when raids are closer to release. Since they will not be there right away with HoT release.

8. See 7.

10. Discover on own most likely

First off, I’m all for customizing weapon attacks. I was hoping this would come to fruition bout a year or two ago, didn’t happen.

But it’s not simply something you add.

  • First, there would have to be a list of skills to always be an auto-attack function like the 1 key is now. So that skill is a staple.
  • Second, creating a new skill for every weapon, then creating the animation for that skill across all the races is very time consuming.
  • Third, and always the looming threat, balance. New skills that will interact with traits could make some weapon OP suddenly, thus push out other playstyles.

Yeah, I’m not sure entirely how much on board I am with the royalty demands considering how much less of a part voice acting is of a game than it is in, for instance, film (especially live-action film).
The rest of the demands make a lot of sense, though. When you take on a job you do deserve to know what it is and what it requires.

That said, for titles selling millions of copies, royalties for acting talent is substantially less likely to break the bank either way. It’s if they started asking that for indie titles I would be really worried. Then again they might not be able to afford SAG actors anyway.

Well, people are starting to compare games to film more because story writing has gotten better over the years for games, as well as the voice acting. I mean, look at the first resident evil game and the atrocious voice acting for it. It was bad. The redone version was much better, and better received.

Not to mention in games that have some kind of story mode, are being criticized for it, not to mention, if voice acting is involved, it too is being criticized. Will bad voice acting sink a good game? Most likely not, but it’ll hurt the rating.

And while you can say “oh, no one shouldn’t care about the ratings!” lets face it, not everyone takes time to research, they see a number, if that number is high, they buy it. If it wasn’t successful, the system wouldn’t still be around.

Going to try and make this fast and quick.

I do not like being forced to do group content. This isn’t as much of an issue until
we get a double fractal daily.

I have a great guild. But I can’t always hook up with a guild group for a fractal run. I HATE pugging. I am a ranger (auto-hate) I am ignorant on the runs…. I am just learning fractals with my guild.

WHY!? are you enforcing this for daily completion.

I love the option fr group play. But do not make daily rewards based on group play or PvP/WvW. You toss down a double fractal daily… I want to see a Big Spender in WvW.

I hate using the mystic toilet. Why are you asking me to throw away 4 things that could at least generate me some gold or mats or luck for one item? Such a waste. Stop forcing me to do it.

Anyhow, I want anet to make it easier to farm keys instead of harder.

They literally just did the opposite of what you want. Why would they go back on that? It’s not something that they wanted to encourage, as it affects their revenue. The NPE was put in place to try and hinder players from key farming. We found a workaround. Now the weekly limit is put in place. We might find a workaround. Who knows?

tl;dr what you want is the exact opposite of what Anet wants.

Anet did officially allow key farm and they especially allowed and agreed to it during the npe update.

No. They said it wasn’t an exploit. That’s very different than endorsing it.

I already posted before that it wasn’t an exploit, and linked the threads and posts. But here they are again.

Basically, no, its not an exploit. But they left it open that its still open to be changed.

Quoting Gaile:

What I was told was that the devs felt that the time spent was acceptable in relation to the rewards.

in other words, did the relation of time spent vs rewards change? As that seems to be one factor. But I would still like a confirmation or if something else changed.

Definitely no BWE, but they absolutely are revealing the Druid at the con. In fact, this is why they are not having a POI episode this week. This has all been confirmed in red posts.

  • Week of Sept 27th – Oct 3rd: Druid reveal most likely. Maybe BWE.

As stated above, Druid reveal is this weekend, not next. BWE could be on this weekend though.

To those that said “They’ll make more changes after release”, I know. Sorry, I should’ve made that more clear that its basically the initial reaction when it does go live.

It just feels a bit wrong to see two specializations that didn’t get much “training” compete and trip at the start while everyone else jogs ahead.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Sadly, these two specializations will most likely suffer the most on release.

Lets look at the time left before release:

  • Week of Sept 20th – 26th (this week): TwitchCon, definately no BWE. Druid reveal at Con.
  • Week of Sept 27th – Oct 3rd: Maybe BWE.
  • Week of Oct 4th – 10th: Most likely BWE, probably last.
  • Week of Oct 11th – 17th: Very Very doubtful BWE may occur.

I get that not all the professions would have an equal amount of time, but at least two weeks should’ve been the minimum. At most, we are looking at ONE for Druid and Scrapper.

And yes, I know tweaks will be made after release. Heck, I expect at least 4-5 patches on opening day for quick fixes on the game itself.

HoT's plot 'selling points' make no sense

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Serophous.9085

Serophous.9085

The thing is that many are forgetting, is that GW2 takes place so many years after GW1 (off of the top of my head, I can’t remember exactly), hence why there are plot holes when trying to compare GW1 lore and GW2 lore.

Lets look at how ESO did it with their MMO lore wise. They set it 3000(?) years into the past, so basically, they at least KNEW where they were going in their design, because they had a diagram technically placed before them.

Example: “Oh, dragon X fell here, so we know where to have that battle take place that the players get to experience it, rather than read”.

Guildwars franchise is done different, in that we had a time skip, leaving many things unexplained, unresolved, thus creating these plot holes.

Lets step out of the ‘game’ mindset and think actual RP inside the game. You go to the Priory Library and read a book about some ‘unnamed hero’. You, as your character, could think, “wait, why is the hero unknown? He’s a hero. Did something happen?”

While we know “oh, that’s suppose to be our character from GW1. And there was no way to input the name”.

So yeah, Anet did take the harder path in this, as now they have to connect the dots between the lores, and its not going to be easy. Not to mention, figure out a way to express that in game that makes sense.

So yes, the lore is what it is because a game of catchup needs to be played to make it fit, and make sense. Heck, i wouldn’t put it pass Anet that some of the plot holes are potential expansion ideas for the future.

I’ve seen this claim before.

But honestly, why would an event that deals with a war between the gods – and was nowhere near any sleeping dragon – deal with the Elder Dragons any more than the explosion of a reactor that utilized dragon energy?

We actually did learn a tiny bit of Elder Dragon lore from that fractal, particularly that it doesn’t mix well with other forms of magic such as chaos magic.

There might have been no Scarlet, but it would be completely foolish to expect Elder Dragon lore. Not everything relates to the Elder Dragon (or that’s how it should be…).

When the event took place, all we were told was “If you choose Evon, God Fractal. Choose Kiel, find out why the reactor exploded.” That was it. There was no mention of the Dragons at all.

But now after seeing the result, we can figure Anet was going to tie it to the dragons no matter what, as we saw with the reactor and Scarlet.

So it basically turned to “great, we know about laylines, and not about what happened with the Gods.” And the information seemed pointless.

Too be fair, this decision probably DID guide how the rest of the story turned out, with Scarlet’s machine dealing with leyline power, finding her first notes and stuff talking about leylines, etc. If the other had won, we may be dealing with more god stuff like temples or artifacts.

Yer the Dragon lore does seem to be on the trot a lot – I’m very excited to have the Mursaat back (just need the true Gods too and we’ll be back on track). Its fun trying to fit a pattern to what they give us though.

I find this to be the most ironic post when you look back at some events.

Its true the lore on the dragons is sorta on a trot, mainly because, going by in game knowledge, we know absolutely NOTHING about them. Well, almost nothing, we have bits an pieces that are leading us to believe its in a trot.

Essentially we would have to look to some time or event that could’ve given clues about the dragons, if only we were given the chance…

OH YEAH! If Evon had won we’d get a fractal about the Gods and Abaddon! Somehow we may have gotten some dragon knowledge, since I doubt Scarlet was alive back then to interfere.

Good thing Kiel won though and we saw what happened to the reactor…

First off, Anet can’t explain everything going on in the world all at once, or else you’ll be sitting in front of a screen watching cutscene after cutscene to get caught up, so some things you have to assume.

As for other people knowing the sylvari have turned? Well, what makes you think it was only the Pact Sylvari that turned? Some Sylvari around the world most likely turned as well and had to be cut down.

Mord was able to reach all the way to Ascalon to spread his influence, chances are the call went there as well. No, Anet is most likely not going to have NPCs say this in any of the cities, or react to it in the core game at least, but at the same time, Anet wants this to stay a big reveal for anyone that purchases the game.

It’s unfortunate that Anet does listen to it’s playerbase more often.

What’s more unfortunate though, is that all these cool and level headed people are here on the forums venting their frustrations instead of having fun and playing the game they all paid for, several times over in most cases.

I believe they just don’t want to turn out like this. In other words, even while having fun, don’t ignore whats going on around.

After much digging, I found the most recent post on keyfarming, back in 2013.

http://www.guildwars2guru.com/arenanet-tracker/topic/250667-are-black-lion-key-runs-an-exploit/

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/support/Are-Black-Lion-Key-runs-an-exploit/first#post1188533

First post from Gaile:

As noted earlier, this is not an exploit.
However, I wanted to add that things can change, and the devs may make adjustments to the rewards if they feel that would be a good thing to do. But at the present time, they do not consider these runs exploitative.

She then checks to see if it IS an exploit or not.

John Smith comes in and says “Not an exploit! Have fun!”

the last red post from Gaile sums it up:

Are you exploiting when you farm, that is, play the same area over and over again? Nope, not unless you’re using a macro or a bot to do it while you sleep. What I was told was that the devs felt that the time spent was acceptable in relation to the rewards. John later confirmed that it wasn’t an exploit, so I believe the question is covered now.

In addition, my comment about change was general in nature, simply a way to say that, as we’re all probably aware, things can change in a game over time. I didn’t mean you to be concerned, pulse, with taking away attained rewards or any sort of loss.

In other words, the time spent Vs rewards was no longer thought to be ‘okay’.

Let that sink in for a second….

So much for Anet saying they were ok with key farming a long time ago. Unfortunately that thread is in a now removed part of the forum, and I had no luck finding it in archives.

And so much for any claim that black lion weapons are reasonable because you can get them ingame. Unless the drop rate on keys has increased massively (I’ve had 3-4 in the 3 years I’ve actively played), the only viable way to get those weapons now is to shell out an average of around $60 for current weapons or over $300 for older/5-ticket ones. They need to be dropping at least as often as exotic gear to keep BL weapon acquisition from being completely absurd.

I really don’t see the increase in drop rates to be anywhere near making up for the nerf. Not that I expect it to be equal, but weapons that need 300 keys on average to obtain need some sort of viable method that doesn’t include spending $300 cash (or gold>gems) on a single weapon skin.

edit
I did the math on the exchange rate. It’s about 5600g (on average) to get a 5-ticket weapon. This is the amount Anet considers their skins to be worth based on gemstore key acquisition. Of course, we’ll have to wait and see what the new drop right is. But in any case, Anet’s concept of value for these weapons is severely out of proportion.

Holy crap! 3-4?! I’m still at ONE!

sure, in GW1 they looked a little different, but there may be had to been some constraints, and that’s what made the charr look like they did then.

I just hope that AFTER THE HOLIDAYS (because its gonna take a bit to fix any missed bugs from the beta not found, and make some adjustments, then we got Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years that lets face it, not many are gonna be in the office especially after being under pressure to release an xpac), the line of communication doesn’t disappear as it did before.

Anet…do NOT go back to those dark times….

Anyone NOT planning on using the new specs??

I’d pay the £35 just to have access to Chrono, even if I got nothing else.

I almost can’t enjoy playing without it after having tasted it the last BWE.

I know how you feel. Same with me with Daredevil. Just a few more fixes for it and its gonna be hard NOT to play it….

changing legendary skin keeps effects

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Serophous.9085

Serophous.9085

Its not that easy.

The effect is tied to the skin, you take away the skin, you take away the effect. If they could somehow separate the two, you would get what we have today with armor stretching over charr or asura. Imagine Twlight’s effect on a sword like Belinda’s GS. It most likely wouldnt even connect with the actual blade, thus, looking horrible.

The Special effect is basically stylized for that weapon skin, and that weapon skin alone.

The thing I hear about most players arguing is the fact they can’t reach the rewards value at the vendor. So an easy solution would be to reduce the amount of tokens needed to exchange those rewards.

Sadly, this suggestion looks like it isn’t gonna happen. SInce the feedback here is for future events, not this one

And they are expert at using Mordremoth’s blighting plants to create Mordrem versions of all creatures. They do not care if their subject is living or dead. Mordrem Guard know how to turn any body into multiple slaves to add to the dragon’s army.

I smell a Scarlet 2.0 perhaps <.<

Where is her body anyway?

I think the thing is that hurts the most is I feel like a liar to my friends who I have been trying to get to play or try the game since F2P, and told them how world events go and how they can be fun at times and cool stuff you can get.

And then we got this and….yeah….I don’t feel so good about it.

edit: As for devs postponing the event. I can’t blame them. No one would really concentrate on the event itself, and stick to bashing the devs there instead.

HoT will be a mess

Will there still be bugs during HoT release? Yes

Will there still be broken events upon release? Yes

Despite all testing, inside and BWEs, something will still be missed, and something will still break, as it wasn’t tested under as much pressure as the current player base.

If you expect it to be perfect out of the box, I got some beans I can sell you

I rarely come here to post or reply but I just want the devs to know how important it is for us players to not be punished in any way by having a disconnect in the middle of a play session, more importantly if we are going to lose any progress we have made in a said event. If there was a way to “save” that progress for a few minutes so we have the time to log back in, it would be great, and yes I know we can do the next event in 30 minutes but for some 30 min are alot and dont have time for more.

We completely agree with you. The team will be working on a way to address this. I don’t know if progress would be saved, that’s a question for a designer or programmer. However, at the least, we don’t want someone to lose their rewards!

Could you clarify as im now confused – you said previously that nothing could now ben done to improve the event – but you say Dev’s are working on improvements? does this mean the event will come back soon?

I’m sorry if my answer wasn’t clear. The devs are looking into a way to prevent people from losing rewards when they disconnect in the middle of an event. It is not possible to make changes to this event, but the information gained through player reports will help us address problems in the game and prevent them in the future.

So even extending it isn’t possible then…sad

We have been tracking player response and recognize that this event has not gone as intended. We’re at a point where we can’t change anything more about this event for this weekend without risk to the greater portion of the game. We also are going to postpone our plans to organize an in-game event around the Mordrem Invasion this afternoon. Instead, we’re going to continue to monitor for your feedback and collect information that will help us improve on these types of events going forward.

We are aware of an issue where if you disconnect during the event you will not be able to rejoin. If you experience this, you will be able to participate in the events that follow the one from which you disconnected. For instance, if you were disconnected during the Kessex Hills incursion, you’ll be able to get into the next stage when it takes place in Diessa Plateau.

As we mentioned yesterday, we will be taking care of those of you who did not get your rewards, so look for those in your in-game mail in the coming days.

We encourage all of you who’ve participated in the Mordrem Invasion to please share your constructive thoughts on how we can improve on these types of experiences in the future. Please share your ideas and feedback in this thread.

Thank you.

Can we extend the event from 4 days to maybe one week? Two weeks? Is that possible?

How the event should’ve been:

  • The majority of the reward should’ve been based on how many events the WHOLE ZONE got completed, not individual. Zone completes 50 events? get 30 blooms, etc etc (numbers made up).
  • The personal buff should’ve had a cap, like 5 or 10, and gives bonus Blooms or the crate when you hit max.

This is how it should have been! All other gripes aside change this and it is a much better and enjoyable event.

Only problem is, how does it deal with the AFKer’s? In which case, the buff could’ve been used again to even qualify for loot.

if anything…

Upon reaching 50 events wide done, max prize is 50 blooms

  • getting a buff 1-9 gets you 15
  • getting a buff 10 – 19 gets you 30
  • getting 20+ gets you the 50

in other words, 50 is the max you could get out of the 50 available. So if the map got 40 bloom reward, then reaching 20+ would net you 40, and so on.

Its too late to change this now, but should be considered for future events

Any class that resembles a swordsman?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Serophous.9085

Serophous.9085

Swordsman as in someone who use a sword? Yes. Warrior, Guardian, Revenant, Ranger, Thief and Mesmer all use a main hand sword. Mesmer is possibly the closest to a fencer/duelist use of sword if that’s what you’re looking for.

If you’re looking for a class that dual wields swords then Warrior, Revenant and Mesmer all do.

Unless there’s some specific definition you’re using that I’m not au fait with.

fencer eh?

My question is, what did Anet think should be a reasonable amount to get in the time of the four days? 900? Enough to get both potions, or two armor pieces? Or 450, enough for one potion and two armor pieces?

I understand not being able to get EVERYTHING. You may have a choice between the armor and the potions, since they end up being the most expensive. But to get them, is really near impossible.

I would say “increase the rewards numbers” but honestly, after the glitch before, I wouldnt want to touch that code anymore since it now works.

So suggestion 2, just lower the vendor prices.

oh you poor poor thing…..I hope you brought a suite of your strongest armor for this. Meanwhile, I’ll go dig up the horse so we can start beating it again…
