Making a Legendary weapon in HoT is like making GWAMM title in Guild Wars 1.

You need to do a lot of things to get your goal. It was hard working to get GWAMM and it should be hard work to get Legendary weapon too.

Making a title that takes a whole lot of things is fine, but weapon and armor skins should not be locked between more work than is reasonable.

So now its okay to make exceptions? A title for a whole lot of things is fine, but for armor and weapons, its not. Why not? A title is just that, and fancy little thing over your name to show off your accomplishment.

What does the new legendary stuff do? Be a fancy little thing that shows off your accomplishment.

There’s no statistical advantage to having a legendary.

Just prepare yourself to try and acquire huge amounts of gold and/or tier 6 mats.

To farm/grind a tier 6 map requires around an hour or two for metal/wood (if you know the spawn points. Longer if you don’t).

You’ll need to farm the same map about 30 times to get the required items.

On average one out of 8 monsters that spawn powerful blood drop that mat. You’ll need to kill enough for 5×8 or 40 of that mat. That means killing 320 of a single type of monster. Between finding and killing those mobs that’s about 1 every 10-15 minutes that’ll drop the mat you need. That’s 6 hours plus the 60 hours for the tier 6 special mats.

So only 66 hours of grinding to get he tier 6 mats for ascended. Then you’ll need the time gated mats which you get one per day. Then to mak the ascended mats, you’ll need to farm an additional 120 hours. Or pay 500 gold.

500 gold is about 100 bucks at the gem exchange rates.

This is obviously Anet’s new revenue model. People get partially through farming for mats, get sick of it and buy gems to get the gold to buy the rest at auction.

It’s funny how the white knighting started even before launch?

it’s gonna be that bad huh?

you know what’s also funny? the fact that you don’t have the same attitude when you buy any other product. “Oh it’s a new tv honey, you didn’t expect it to work perfectly right out of the box now, did you?” or “It’s a new car mate, of course the break won’t work all the time, trust me they’ll fix it”. “It’s a new airplaine, obviously some models will crash, don’t you know not to fly when a new airplane comes online?”

HoT is a product, as all products it should do what it says in the box, so to speak. You’re not calling ppl who expect their tvs to work as adverntised entitled perfectionists, you call them informed and responsible consumers. It’s time to become one yourself. Maybe that way, when they promise you new legendaries, you’ll actually get ’em in the projected timeframe, and not three years later.

If the process of getting the legendary is more trouble than its worth then dont get it.

That is certainly one option. I don’t feel that it is the best option. I feel that if I can convince ANet to change their mind, to change the process to one that is more reasonable, then I would be able to pursue that new process and get the Legendary I want, and that would leave me happier, so that is the course I am pursuing.

You have played up to this point without legendary armor so why do you all of a sudden need it so bad?

It didn’t exist up to this point. Build it and they will come.

You dont, you want a prestigious item to feel special but dont want to do the work for it.

Prestige? No. Couldn’t care less. Cool look? Definitely. I don’t know that the Legendary armor will look good, there’s a decent chance it won’t, but assuming it does, I will want it, at least a few pieces to mix into my wardrobe. But no, I find the idea of “prestige” in a video game to be amusing, at best.

You arnt the type of player legendarys are intended for

Then they shouldn’t have made them look cool.

If they just wanted them as a status symbol, to say “I have done more things than most players,” then they should have used the mithril weapon models and just slapped the word “I am a special snowflake” on them in bright green paint. Then everyone would now what a special snowflake you are for having one.

But instead, they made them look really cool, so that people would want to have one whether they had any interest in being a . . . lol. . .“legendary player,” or not.

Lol so you think that a game thats endgame revolves around finding the coolest cosmetic skins to deck yourself out with should make the skins they intentionally design to be the hardest to obtain be the ugliest and least desired just so YOU dont have to go through the trouble of getting it because it requires work?
The whole point of legendarys is the skin. Otherwise people wpuld only get ascended and reskin it. And agaun, you have ZERO idea what the armor looks like yet you claim that the only reason you want it is for looks…..what?

Actually, I would want the legendary stuff for the convienence. I don’t really care about any of the looks atm because I can’t figure out how to match them with the current armor.

Heck, I could have three legendaries by now if I wanted, but chose not too because again, I just didn’t care.

In truth, I’m not surprised a thread like this happened, and it won’t be the last. The current method of legendaries sucks already, they came up with a new one (and yes, I see it as better, no more based on RNG for the main item) which is based on the mawdrey system, which many people liked.

But hey, mmo developers can never please everyone, and they shouldn’t look to because its an impossible task. I mean, we have people complaining about the wallet system folks. THE WALLET SYSTEM.

They already went down that road with Prince Rurik. They wouldn’t be dumb enough to do that a second time.

Actually, I liked that part. Not the prince dying, no. But at least I felt something when it happened, and not everything was “happy go lucky everyone lives”. Knowing that no one is safe adds better tension to stories, hence why Game of Thrones has been so successful (unless you read the books).

But I already know Anet will take the safe route here, since I remember Arah story where for a second I thought they had the stomach to kill Logan, only for him to survive. It left a bitter taste in my mouth almost as bad as the last fight.

Also requires WvW rank 14.

True, can just spend laurels to advance that too. But then again, since the new item is purchasable, can skip it anyway.

If this is the first time you’ve seen anyone comment that they dislike the new daily system, you haven’t been here very long. There have been lengthy discussions about funneling people into game modes they don’t like, double fractals, fewer choices for PvE players, maps being overrun and events not coded to scale to handle the number of people doing them, and just generally lacking in flavour. I’m sure I’m missing some things. Honestly, dailies and monthlies kept getting me out in the game world for a long time. Since this new system was implemented almost a year ago, I’ve done maybe 5-10 jumping puzzles, and I don’t think I’ve completed a full set of dailies since June or July. I know I’m just one person, but I know I’m not the only one whose passion for the game has been strangled to death.

So, instead of enjoying the freedom of going out into the world to do what you want, you enjoyed being told what to do.

What’s stopping you from doing those jumping puzzles now? Because there isn’t text in a game saying “go do 50 jps in a month”? Then set you’re own goal to do that. There is nothing in the game stopping you.

There’s no incentive, either.

Which only proves the point people weren’t doing them for “fun” there was an incentive behind it.

The “no grind” philosophy means a new set of gear with higher stats wont be required every time new content comes out. It was broken once when ascended gear and fractals came out, which people hated, but by now they have either gotten used to it or quit. Raids do not break it as ascended gear is not required for them.

It also doesnt mean high end cosmetic items wont be expensive.

Guess this link needs posted again.

Thank you for finding that. I was looking for awhile.

So Nyah to all the people saying “its required!”

Also, Duffy messed up there and inflated the problem with that kind of heading. There is a difference between “should” and “required”.

“Should” I kill this mob in front of me? Nah, I can go around.
There is a mob in front of me I cannot bypass, I am “Required” to kill it.

lol now you’ll need ascneded for endgame… It’s somewhat more expensive then normal exotic gear…

No you don’t need, it is recommended.
Also, you know you can get ascended trinkets after a while by just logging into the game, right?
Ascended weapons is WAY more accessible then armor, if you have asc trinkets and weapons and exotic armor you barely have any difference from a full asc player.

BTW there is no grind in GW2, you grind only if you want to, no content at all requires you to be full ascended and much less legendaries.

Salvaged mats economy to be DESTROYED

Im not sure people realize how much of an impact just this is going to have.

About 50% of the costs when people roll for precursors are Elder Wood and Mithril. Same goes for superior rams and other commonly used siege weapons in WvW. Expect to see prices go up by 15-25% in the next days unless something will calm the market.

you mean something like map rewards giving out mats as well? Throughout the beta, they asked us to test it once, which people did, and posted the feedback, much of it was “we’re barely getting mats from the map events”. So most likely they have been buffed and fixed (not every event was giving mats at times, sometimes people never got any).

And if that’s the case, then it makes sense why salvaging was nerfed.

In other words, its a wait and see.

At first I liked the mystery of ‘E’.
Who he is, what his agenda is, etc etc.

But I really stopped caring. Anet waited way too long with this E business.
That being said, I doubt it’s an exalted. ‘E’ once grabbed Marjory in Divinity’s Reach.
If a large glowing non-humanoid creature in golden armor with energy tentacles moved through the streets of DR I think Marjory and other people would have noticed lol.

EDIT: Besides the article states the Exalted were lying dormant for a long time and didn’t become active until the Master of Peace and Glint’s Egg approached them. ‘E’ was active long before that.

Pretty much this. E was interesting for awhile, but basically fell off the map (which is good for him i suppose), but at the same time, the whole “who was that mysterious person?” effect has worn off, and really just don’t care.

So your suggestions to improve GW2 are basically to make it a carbon coby of the other games you played?

While that does make sense from a psychological standpoint (desire for stability, unwilligness to change) does it not srike you odd that this is your first go-to reaction?

GW2 has broken with many traditions (more with some, less with others) and that is exactly its strength, not its weakness.

whether a handful of players want or don’t want these things, they could make a-net a ton of money, and that is undeniable ..and the more money they make the more money they put into a game the more players join and stick around ect ect

Because sacrificing your values and community trust is worth ever single doller you can squeez out of your customers before they abandon ship. Sorry, Arenanet aren’t Blizzard/Activision yet in that department.

Heck, even when microsoft bough out Mojang, they knew not to kitten off the community with Minecraft, and so far have left it alone.

MMR algorithm post 9/29/2015 feedback

in PvP

Posted by: Serophous.9085

Serophous.9085

I’d also like to add that when this happens, I never get wins to balance it back out. I have 48% win rate in ranked and unranked but 56% win rate in custom arenas. Total account wins are at 50%. This makes me need to ask the question: When the match making aims for 50% wins, does it read all my wins accrued concerning all current and previous match types including hotjoins and custom servers? If so, this would explain the lose streaks. Is the algorithm trying to keep my account win rate at 50% and I am being punished in ranked nowadays due to an old lingering good win rate from hotjoin/custom arenas?

Matchmaking doesn’t look at existing win rates, it only lowers your matchmaking rating if you lose and raises it if you win so that over time you should balance to a 50/50 win rate. Custom arenas, unranked, and ranked all have no influence on each other.

Sadly, it also seems to match you with the same people too when you lose. I know my MMR isn’t that high since I rarely pvp and just started doing it with my dailies, but I got stuck in two matches in a row with the same rangers who basically did nothing but autoattack the whole match, so double loss for me. I had loss earlier, and basically just took a break hoping they would stop playing too

Posted by: Serophous.9085

Serophous.9085

I didn’t get to test much sadly with some big projects for school due and tests, and my friend wanted to try the game as well. So this is pretty brief.

  • Mastery Points Gone
I’m really hoping they were just disabled during this BWE since all you really needed was gliding for the raids apparently. But the areas where there were mastery points to somehow get to seemed fine to me, and I enjoyed figuring out how to get there. I hope this was just an error and not final.
  • Leveling up Masteries
First, it seemed the Exp towards masteries was reduced a lot, again, hoping this was an error because it was horrible to just level up gliding.

Speaking of which, the whole “locking masteries until a previous mastery is unlocked” is a horrible idea. If people don’t want to get gliding first, then they shouldn’t. Heck this was even said on your livestreams. So again, I hope this was just an error or implemented JUST for this BWE.

  • Removing the archers from the Personal Story
Bad move imo. Did I die in my first encounter? Yes. Did I learn after that? Yes. Please let me learn from my mistakes and slow reaction time, not make it easier for me.
  • Mobs made easier
I’m not gonna lie and say some mobs were over attuned with HP and damage. Some of the frogs were a real pain to fight, and just as a veteran, they could’ve been tuned down A LITTLE. And one of the normal shroud beasts able to kill me almost instantly definately (note, I said normal, not vet, not elite, not champ, NORMAL).
But this was waaaaay too toned down for everything. Waaay too easy. Go back to BWE2 level and try again.
  • Raids
I got to do one briefly this morning finally. It was fun, I liked the Megaman approach to the first boss, in which you see what each color does before getting to the boss who does all three. Too bad we got to P2 and instant wiped while trying to figure out why.

And one question to Anet, was this instance of the BWE just taken from the Twitchcon showroom floor? Hence why so different than BWE2?

Hm….nothing easy to post here, both ideas would take time, one more than the other.

First, customizable weapon skills. Yeah, would take awhile due to balance and new animations, but would be nice.

Second, stop making my offhand limp most of the time when dual wielding. What I mean is, if I have a sword in my off hand, I should be swinging it with my 1 key.

The 1 key has a three chain attack usually, correct? Well, think of it how a thief’s 3 key changes with their OH. This can happen with the one key too.

The first part of the chain, the MH weapon, second part, the OH weapon, third part could be both. Course again, takes time and balance.

On, and a third thing that could be really easy.

The kills with a weapon achievements, MAKE THE OH COUNT TOWARDS KILLS WITH MH. Holy crap am I tired of killing critters with my ONE shield attack on a long CD.

It’s ridiculous to cry, “Punish him! Punish him!!” and force all the responsibility onto other people because we can’t just say, “He was mean, I’m ignoring and moving on with my life.”

As opposed to you just now shifting the “responsibility” for being harrassed onto the person being harrassed? ôO

As wrong as it is to claim that Anet doesn’t do anything about trolls and other [insert small feline here] in the game, it is even worse to pretend that, when it happens to you, your responsibility of blocking and reporting is greater than the responsibility of the person who was harrassing you to be a decent human being. I hate this excuse (and that’s what it is, and excuse for harrassing people) with a passion. It’s like getting told by teachers to just “stay out of his way” all over again, as if it was my fault some guy decided to pick on me for years. The greater fault always lies with the person doing the harrassing, not with the person at the receiving end.

The responsibility lies with the harasser, and the harasser alone; they should not be harassing in the first place. But people will break rules and people will be mean, so we have to decide how to deal with it. The harasser has harassed, they have broken this social convention, so now what do we do? Do we block them, ignore them, maybe report them, and move on? Or do we whine and cry and appeal to a higher authority to do something about it instead of managing it ourselves?

Sometimes a higher authority is necessary. In cases of persistent and severe bullying, for example, it’s best to get the help of parents, teachers, authorities or managers to eliminate the problem at its source. “Toughing it out” or “brushing it off” doesn’t always work, and it’s not always a good option. This goes for both in-person and internet bullying. It’s important to judge when this is necessary, but it should not become the default option for every case, and herein lies the problem with current social trends and entitlement.

The OP was not specific as to what this “harassment” constituted. Was the OP rudely criticized for his/her actions in PvP? Insulted for his/her armor appearance choices? Told he/she was running a sub-optimal build in dungeons? Cat-called? Rudely hit on?

And then, the most important part: how, or to what intensity? A single isolated comment, “ignore.” Multiple comments, “block” and maybe “report.” Switching accounts to get around the block, getting friends in on the harassment, joining LFG parties and kicking the OP, intentionally losing in PvP… There are a lot of really mean, really bad things that people can do to take what started as an isolated incident or single rude comment too far.

So, use good judgement, be a good person, and try your best to not let downers get you down.

One final note on a part of your post:

I hate this excuse (and that’s what it is, and excuse for harrassing people) with a passion.

I have never harassed anyone, in any medium, and I do not condone this behavior. It is most certainly not an excuse for harassing people, though harassers themselves will on occasion try to use it as such (“If it bothered him, he’d block or do something about it, hue hue.”). This is exactly the advice that a psychologist would offer: when confronted with adversity, do you break down and let it control you, or do you take charge of your own life and do what is necessary to stop it? Sometimes this is a simple block, sometimes this is going to a teacher, sometimes this is calling the police, and sometimes this is a plea to the devs.

But without the facts and more information, we don’t know. Hence the advice and debate.

Can…can we be friends?

1. humans are humans. When someone says rude stuff to you in public, what do you do? Stand there and take it, or ignore and walk away?
2. Ignore and report options are your friends. Use them instead of ignoring them.
3. The fact that you had to report this instead of just ignore and report means they got to you, and they won.
4. Again, ignore, report, and let it go. Don’t let someone else control and ruin your fun.

The other problem is, you can’t raise the participation requirement, because it will hurt other playstyles.

I can run up to one mob in an event, and as long as I kill it and get credit before it ends, I get the reward. This threshold is kept low so the people not in full damage gear get credit. We could raise it, but it wouldn’t be fair.

People in support healing gear most likely aren’t going to be doing damage a lot, so they may not get credit. One solution to this could be to make healing contribute more towards earning the reward. But most characters have aoe heals too.

The people who stack nothing but tanking stats would get hurt the most, not dealing enough damage. You could argue that taking more damage can contribute, but anyone can take a lot of damage.

The Ranger Bots have re-appeared in force… no longer in Cursed Shore or other well known spots around Tyria.. now they stand idle in Dry Top near to the Prosperity waypoint using their pets to tag events and macro spawn traps .

Cmon Anet when are you going to get a grip with the exploitation of your game mechanics and do something. Oh that’s right we are advised to hit the report buttons and day after day the same players stand there tagging rewards, especially since that little pinch of info about maybe needing geodes for some of the pre-cursor craft steps at Twitchcon

This spot isn’t new. People did this when dry top was popular. Then people complained, and anet did come through with the ban hammer.

Now that its not so monitored, they’ve returned

can you explain changes to Toughness

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Serophous.9085

It was said that toughness would be more important in HoT. can you elaborate on this change?

It’s not. Once an event gets scaled so high, bosses are going to one shot you with normal attacks anyway, no matter how much toughness you have.

For solo pve solo roaming, dungeons, and raids, maybe it’ll be worth. But if you are planning on running the big events, its worthless.

Time to nerf SW farming and more guild stuff

Thanks anet for taking my advice on “Raid” concept despite many people objected my idea. and thanks anet for incorporating wvw into guild missions despite so many people objected my idea.
Now that HOT is coming, isn’t it time we end the insane farming and drop loot in silverwaste. it really inflated the game economy and it’s off balance with other areas of the map.
well comparing to rewards in wvw and pvp is another story!
also guild needs more ranks with the release of the HOT. because we want to have silverwaste master, HOT master, raid master and so on
so expand the number of ranks in guild panel. another suggestion is that if some of the guild buff price and cooking time be adjusted, that would help a lot of guilds and players.
what do you think people!

Its going to become less common when more people move into the HoT content. No need to nerf it.

So OP need to pay attention to:
“Last boss should be full asc” and one of his replies “Agony resistance is not required.”
So asc won’t be required, they are just really expected.
It is just like saying a dungeon/fractal requires a full party, then we see several videos of people soloing those.

It’s not what the statement says, but how people will react to the statement. If raid leaders and players think they’ll need it, they’re going to buy it, and the price is going to increase.

It is safe to assume that with things like GW2effiency, leaders will be requiring gear checks and forcing BiS, which means $$$ if you’re smart enough to pounce early.

That’s gonna be fun for the leader

leader: “ok. All 9 of you need to send me their GW2effiency link of your gear to make sure you are all full ascended!”
Some members: “what’s GW2effiency?”
Some other members: “I thought GW2 didn’t have gear checks?”
Rest: “Can we go already?”

And then the kicking and finding a replacement…going through the same ordeal if they haven’t signed up for the site…yes, this will be fun

I find it funny how IB being op in PvE didn’t bother ANet for 3 years and now that raids are coming ANet suddenly nerfs it.

My guess is that, thanks to raids being a thing, we’ll see some more balance patches for PvE in the future. How about nerfing wall of reflection next? Or making shadow refuge deal 1 point of damage in it’s area, so that it becomes impossible to stealth while surrounded by enemies? We could also replace the phalanx strength trait with something “more engaging”.

While this may sound exaggerated, those are very possible nerfs to bring those skills and traits in line with other skills and traits to promote build diversity.

Are you suggesting we have to actually do Lupi NORMALLY now by nerfing reflects?!

BL Chests - Ignore these until fix.

Before, I could expect a scrap dropping at a 75% rate (personal data, using three batches of 50 chests each time).

As of todays’ patch, the scraps and the full tickets received a 50% drop decrease at least (again, personal data with three batches of 50 chests each and a single 100 chest batch from someone else).

And Instant Repair Canister is still on the drop list. And the guaranteed Booster is still on the drop list.

You basically devalued your own Chests, since people rarely used them for anything else that were not scraps and tickets, while simultaneously addressing the ages old issues with them.

Please fix.

i don’t know about the ticket or scraps, but I’ll say this about the boosters.

The only useful boosters are the MF, EXP, celebration/birthday (but those you don’t get from chests), and gathering boosters (gathering barely makes it though). Remove the rest. And yes, remove the repair canisters, since repairing is free now, and usually in dungeons there is a waypoint right beside a repair anvil. So the item is pointless.

Is todays patch supposed to be this big?

314,000 files – it’s been at 0% for 5-10 minutes?

Is my entire game redownloading?

See how OP the ice-bow was? It took all this to fix it. :nods:

the game is fighting back

So few will most likely get this…
