There seemed to be a lot of people that were disappointed that they’d sprung for the pre-purchase and I don’t think a lot of the people that pre-purchased HoT will do so again. I think a good portion of them are going to take a wait and see approach, which means numbers for a second expansion could very possibly be even more dissatisfying than HoT’s numbers.

And it doesn’t surprise me that their idea of F2Pers buying the expansion didn’t play out as well as they thought it would. When you compare core Tyria’s content for free to HoT’s tiny content for money along with the grindy system, yeah, don’t know why they’d buy it. lol

The thing is, comparing HoT to the core is comparing something that’s still “new” to something that has three years of content. So yeah, HoT needed a big “WOW” factor to get people to buy, and all you really had was gliding. After Gliding, I would say its the mastery system (which if meta events weren’t so time gated, would be a lot easier to fill too. Too fast even). If the timers aren’t changed in the next update, I’d suggest adding HoT specific dailies to give XP towards masteries (a mastery xp scroll or just XP since don’t want people saving up when new masteries come out).

But I agree there wasn’t much to HoT than what they say with “setting up systems”. I tried to go at a slow pace with HoT, but even then I started running out of things to do, not to mention when I went for my Legendary backpiece journey, I find out “oh, its not fully released yet.” What? Then why introduce it at all?

Well, I’ll just go raid. Oh, its time gated? Well, ok, as long as its reasonable….
We are now in Feb and still one raid wing and unable to even finish Legendary gear….

I won’t even get into profession balance. That’s a time bomb, but boy did that get messed up.

But count me as one of the people who isn’t going to buy the next expansion right away, not if its $60 for what we got in HoT. And I got some of my friends to play for free. And when they ask me “should I buy?” I just tell them honestly. “No, its not worth it yet. Wait till more content comes out to justify it or to wait for it to get discounted”

Now, the second beta week (when it wasn’t what was basically on the show room floor for pax and stuff) man, THEN the difficulty was high! Going zerk was suicide!

This is cancer.

No damage mitigation aside from shield and mace block (double endure pain isn’t enough, idk what convinced you this was), no condition cleanse (no wonder you cant handle reapers), no healing (you might have a decent crit rate, but nowhere near enough ferocity to match the healing done by the other healing skills), poor mobility, and a completely wasted trait.

This build IS cancerous. To the user, that is.

I’m not convinced its cancerous until someone links me a meme saying it gave them cancer

- punished for switching teams basically (since now you are on the losing team and get nothing)
- no punishment for leaving
- projectiles buggy so much that an opponent can be right in front of you, and still be “obstructed”
- have to stand directly on the pads to get out of the holes, then move while in air or you are never getting out
- camera collision when using the pads at the sides with the walls
- having to set the auto attack every time you join a game
- im sure there are more that I missed

You must be new to MMOs. I think you should go look at WoW’s forums. Or Archeage. Or anyone for that matter.

Active MMOs all have forums that read just like this one.

Point 1. That doesn’t mean most people are unsatisfied. It means a lot of people who are unsatisfied complain.

Let’s say we see 10,000 people complaining and there are half a million players (clue we haevn’t seen close to 10,000 people complaining). Also some who complain are just trolls, I know because they’ve admitted to me that the only reason they complain is to rile up fan boys.

When you have a million people together a bunch of them are going to be dissatisfied and they’ll complain. It means very little unless a majority are complaining about something. But it’s only really bad press if it’s a) reasonable and b) not happening the MMO forum for every successful MMO.

Point 2. A lot of the things people complain about are handled quickly. However some things people complain about are simply not going to change, no matter how many complaints. For example, when someone nerfs a profession, someone is going to complain that it’s not fair, whether it’s fair or not. Most people are actually reasonable. Most people know that certain professions needed a nerf.

Point 3. Anet is a company comprised of over 300 people. Those 300 people work a lot of hours to bring a program. But when you have that many people all working on different projects, sometimes things fall through the cracks. That’s because people aren’t perfect. They make mistakes. When I ran a store, I made thousands of decisions every week…a few dozen of them were bound to be wrong. It’s not reasonable to expect that mistakes won’t happen, and it’s even less reasonable to believe they can be fixed quickly, particularly if you’re talking about programming mistakes. These games are far more complex than most people think they are.

Point 4. None of us really know how many people by percentage are unhappy with the game, but of the unhappy people, they’re all complaining about disparate things. Which people do you listen to? I know for a fact Anet has made some changes to the game based on what people were saying. Are you suggesting they make a thousand changes to the game all at once? What would that do to their code.

Seriously. Go spend some time on the official forums of other MMORPGs. This is pretty much the norm. And the bigger the game gets, the more attention it gets, and the more people tend to complain.

The happy people? They’re playing the game. They have very little reason to be here.

I’m just looking for some concrete data. Almost everyone I talk to is dissapointed in things.

You mention the game is very complex. Can you elaborate for me what you meant? Its vary hard to see a 1 to 1 conversion between the amount of work shown in updates and the amount of time spent on them.

Everyone I talk to is enjoying the game.

Hmm…I see. This can be a problem…

The thing is, its fine if you consider warriors “ok” or “good”. But why bother with that when i can play one of the others and be “amazing”?

What some have been saying is, warriors have basically been on par this whole time, its the other classes getting big changes and balances and specializations that they jumped way up, while warriors remained the same.

What grind? I keep hearing people say it’s grindy. Been playing since beta over 3 years ago and have not grinded yet and don’t plan on it and I have more gold then I know what to do with and I keep making more whether I want to or not.

how much gold…100? rofl.

but yeah its still grindy, no rewards, nerfed dungeons…you need to play 24/7 to save some gold, or buy gems and convert to gold (f2p).

I don’t know about PyrateSilly, but I’ve never bought gems to convert to gold.

Off the top of my head

Got to 2000 gold, then the wardrobe came out back then and I spent all I had buying skins. Got back up to 700, spent it on buying a permanent bank access. Then I spent a couple of years crafting ascended weapons and buying ascended trinkets with laurels: opportunity cost for ingots, planks and trinkets is hundreds of gold minimum, perhaps a few thousand. Got up to 3500 gold, spent 2000 plus on dyes when the 3rd birthday dyes came out. Spent 450 gold yesterday on a ghostly infusion. Outfitted 10 chars with exotic armors and originally exotic weapons. Plus whatever other purchases I’ve made.

All that from playing the game over 3 years time, crafting and harvesting. No gems to gold.

Honestly I have not kept track of all the gold I have had. I have NEVER used gems to convert to gold. Gold is just too easy to make and find in this game. I have given gold to family and friends when they run out and get right back to where I was before within a week. Right now I have almost 300 gold and that’s only because the Lunar New Year just started and I am buying the red envelopes every day.

Most my gold is coming from converting mats to higher tiers. Gotta waste those spirit shards somehow

More grindy. Harder to earn gold (dungeons were nerfed). Good places to earn gold via PvE nowadays is: Tequatl (2 gold daily) and fractals.

They keep nerfing things since years as far as I know,

thanks for all answers, no reason to download 25GB then- shame this game deserves better devs if you ask me…nerfing every single thing, removing story content and full focus on pvp is disgusting. I’m a mostly solo player in MMOs, and there’s literally nothing solo in GW2 and also income resources ruined by developers, which forces us to buy Gems. Doesn’t matter, I’m not going to spend a penny to them

thanks again

I figured you had posted with your mind already made up and would take the salty comments from the people who are annoyed with the game as gospel truth.

We told them guys

We can all see what the balance team is doing, it’s JUST like football except all the football players are riding horses. To make football more interesting, they made all the pro athletes ride horses.

At the start everyone is knocked around to the ground, people getting their helmets smashed in by 3-4 different horses flailing about wildly. No one can tell what is going on in the massive pile of screaming horses and football players struggling to do anything. The fortunate players not caught in the chaos cannot seem to accomplish any task as their horse panics, runs around and refuses to listen, thus making plays lasting 5-10 minutes of absolutely nothing happening. All the while the poor viewers are wondering who the heck thought a 15 minute train wreck was a good idea as the game interests plummets to the ground. Finally the creators scratch their heads being confused of why people don’t like it.

Ultimately, it will be the most watched thing on TV for a week or two before people start getting angry that the crap still has a time slot on TV and just wants the “super fun new sport!” advertisements to die.

Just ignore all of the current and growing issues and remember Esports. It doesn’t matter that power creep is removing the risk/reward factor, combat tactics and challenge of timing key attacks because Esports.

So gw2 esports pvp = The Kardashians….

Trolling in GW2

Serophous.9085

Recently I was trolled by a player named [name removed], he kicked me off a frac party 1 sec before i was revived and loot the boss chest.

So firstly beware of that troll, and secondly Anet should add a feature where players are immune to kick until they have looted the chests.

This is really unfair, and trolls like that ruin the whole game experience…

Maybe add a new report category “Troll”, and if a player gets too many troll reports his name should be red or something, so everyone will know!

Cheers!

What’s stopping trolls and their friends from reporting non-trolls as trolls enough times to get their names red?

If you false report repeatedly, you yourself get into trouble

[Suggestion] Focus on Solo-play Experience

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Serophous.9085

Serophous.9085

I fear you guys are simply reading the title rather than expanding on the points being made.

This isn’t about hardcore versus casual play. Nor is it about catering to solo over group play.

It’s about introducing a system that balances solo & group play equally. You can still have difficulty with such a system, for example; splitting a quest line into three directions on the map – each direction being a different difficulty. So even if people aren’t around to scale the quests up, you’d still have your easy/med/hard etc.

Again, these are broad ideas and require more depth to hash out a proper mechanic. Yet given today’s industry, it really doesn’t seem like a far fetched notion.

HoT, currently, is broken. You could lfg, yet the emphasis is on swapping to meta events only and losing your map exp as a result. Trying to get a chain going for the smaller events is a joke. You either have to lucky by being on at the right time or you’re screwed. That’s not a ‘play it my own way’ kind of deal.

What you forget is, people always take the path of least resistance. If solo starts becoming easier/faster than group, then group dies. So then to balance it out they try a few things like make grouping more rewarding, which makes the other people doing the solo path complain because they don’t get special rewards.

Perhaps they make solo harder then, in which case people complain cause of difficulty.

Not to mention trying to balance so many paths is going to take up more time and resources to just retune content over and over till its right. Sticking to one is easier.

I also don’t want to have something like “normal, hard, and mythic” difficulties in gw2 <.<

Guild wars 3?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Serophous.9085

Serophous.9085

No levels and progression based on obtaining more choices in skills would be my ideal GW3. Take the best part from GW1 and improve it.

Good idea, in theory, but how is progression then determined? Just skills? People seem to love/hate masteries and the whole Metroidvania style, so where would progression come from?

Have elite skills be big and powerful but hard to find and build defining. Not like in GW2 where we each get one elite and most of them aren’t even better than standard utility skills.

First part, impossible nowadays. The internet is much more refined than it was before, easily giving you locations of items and things. Something “hard to find” would stay hidden maybe a week before everyone knows it. As for the second part where skills are equal, easier said than done.

Crafting your perfect build should be equal parts ingenuity and adventure as you try and find and earn the high end skills you need to complete it.
Don’t implement it in the same way GW2 tried though. Locking every single minor trait behind that sort of Easter Egg hunt was more frustrating than anything. Just the elite skills.

Yes, it was stupid and bad, hence why it was removed and we have what there is today.
And to combine the two quotes above, how can an elite be build defining, yet at the same time have equal ingenuity? Either the skill works with one skill, or doesn’t. And then there are the metas, and one skill working TOO well with another skill, causing one to get nerfed, which can hurt other skills…etc…etc…

No stats on gear aside from armor value either, again similar to GW1. Runes and inscriptions are fine as long as gear doesn’t become the defining factor that determines what your build does. Make changing your build as easily done as changing your traits. No massive resource sink in getting new gear or having to carry multiple gear sets to support multiple builds. All that does is punish people for experimenting with new builds.

GW2 was a huge step backward in that regard.

But at the same time, doesn’t this also remove creativity with builds? What about the people who run pure damage builds but use defensive armor (I use to in the beginning of GW2)? How bout an area where you can experiment with stat combos for free, but out in the environment, have to attain it? Part of experimenting is failure and the loss from it.

Aside from that keep GW2’s more active combat system, but MAYBE slow it down a bit by reducing the availability of AoE attacks and cleaves. If you want AoE you should have to build for AoE, and suffer a loss in single target potential as a result.

I agree with this. If you build mostly for AOE, your single target suffers, and vice versa. Same with dmg and survivability, boons and debuffs. I like to think of it like a scale; when one side goes up, the other is going down.

Keep dodging as a mechanic. Shoot, IMPROVE on dodging. Maybe bring back Body Blocking (If the new game’s servers can handle it) and allow certain professions like thieves/assassins or rangers to jump over enemies to get to the people in the back.

Body blocking NO. just no. its horrible.

Make control skills much more rare but much more valuable. Chain controlling someone should involve team coordination, not a single person throwing out a ton of hard control effects one after another.

For rare I’m going to assume by your earlier statement in harder to obtain, which again, it won’t be harder to obtain, unless its RNG based. And there is a whole new can of worms making a skill RNG based capture.

For PVE make certain maps harder than others in terms of difficulty so the player still has a sense of progression when starting out. Maybe low-end zones are more peaceful with farms and such that get attacked by the occasional band of bandits, but higher end zones are more like Maguuma where the map is layered and complex and everything in it is trying to kill you, with only a few truly safe spots. Without levels there wouldn’t be a power difference between a single bandit in Queensdale and a single bandit in Harathi, but the Harathi bandit would have more skills to use and be more reactive to the player, and would always have a few friends.

Isn’t this already in the game? I mean, I know the skills may not all be different, but I feel this is already in the game.

For PVP just open the game with more than a single gamemode. PVPers like variety too.

There are two game modes. A third would be nice, but atm, improve on what they have before making anything new again.

Don’t feel like I’m picking on you, I just saw this was a detailed post and wanted to point at what flaws and problems you need to forsee when coming up with ideas.

In a creative process, the first step is to come up with something cool. Then the next step is think how can it be abused, and finally if it can be done at all.

Every company has different branches and it’s the management’s job to balance those branches. If you give too much resources to one branch while neglecting the other, than you’re not doing a good job, right?

Ranger
In the future, we’ll continue to explore ways to improve on the ranger’s ties to both their pets and nature.

I can only hold to hope that this means they actually consider finally offering the option of severing the ranger’s ties to their pets, and instead offering a more nature-oriented playstyle.

Other than pet AI actually being fixed, offering a wide range of skins for the various species, as well as making a larger selection of species able to be tamed, that is really the only change to the ranger that I desire as I consider that option as being an immense improvement to the current ranger > pet/nature relationship.

I don’t think pets should be nixed, I think the pet system needs to be adjusted. Pets have abilities that make no sense, or don’t make use of the pets’ specific stat spreads (like condition inflicting abilities, with like…400 condi dmg stat), the A.I., etc.

I do agree that some more skins should be available, if not different species (like when they added the reef drake). Some minor things like retaining names (PLS) and making pets like the black wolf not look like it is made of a plastic tarp would also be appreciated.

To reiterate, I do not desire for pets to be nixed, I desire for there to be an option to play ranger in a way where it is not forced to use a pet.

Don’t be surprised if this option is possible with a specialization

I’m not too concerned. I’m not… much of anything, really.

The blog post was fluff. It was a gigantic tray of compliment sandwiches, complete with no-calorie content substitute.

Pretty much this. It didn’t really give any actual info, just headlines of what they are planning. I mean, that’s not bad per se, but once you read it again, you really just feel like “meh, so I am half a step toward knowing more info”.

lets wait and see, hope they read what we wrote here.

I hope so too. The language suggests to me that they’ve mostly altered skills, rather than traits. I hope I’m wrong, because the poor placement of traits in the specialization lines has caused half the problems that Warrior faces.

Tbh, they could somewhat reduce the need to deal with trait placement by dealing with just the weapon skills. For example, where they say they want to improve what can be done with a single weapon, it tells me they’re looking to reduce the necessity of Fast Hands, which is great. That, in turn, could free up an entire traitline for those builds that would do better with something other than discipline.

I’m not sure what they have in mind for improved sustain, but it’s good to see it on there. That, too, might reduce the pressure to take something like Defense or the more defensive options in Berserker. I find it’s the presence of practically mandatory traits that really hampers us in the trait department (though not exclusively, I realize).

Frankly, I think they hit most of the key issues we’ve been raising on this forum, which makes me hope they’ve been listening. Even if they don’t pull off a resounding success, I’m appreciative of that fact alone and hopeful that the changes will at least improve upon where we are today.

the thing is, I like fast hands, I just hate the trait line

You know, re-reading over the article, I’m still concerned for warrior. Its great that berserker is getting another pass, but issues go deeper than that.

What I’m getting at is, the trait lines are really all screwed up, where some things need moved around or changed, and I didn’t see any mention of that.

This game has not and never will be an esports game no matter how hard anet wishes it to be. Esports games fixes bugs almost instantaneously and roll out balance patches as soo as they’re needed. Anet neglects these things and kitten around too long to even make this a second string contender in the esports world.

It may be the cynic in me, but announcing working on an expansion while there is a myriad of bugs and balancing issues currently in the game, I can only think that this will be their excuse for not balancing or releasing any meaningful content until the next expansion.

Sort of like the lead-up to Hot, where updates came few and far between for months.

Think of the devs like this:

you have a total of 100% production. I’m hoping anet is splitting that production up into 80%+ towards current things (bug fixes, LS, balance, etc, which would be divided up moreso), then 20% or less into the next xpac

Ascended armor prices

once again:
The demand was increased without increasing supply

Before HoT:
- ascended mats for ascended armor and weapons

After Hot:
- ascended mats for armor and weapons
- for guild halls
- for precursors (both armor and weapons, as people are probably saving up for legendary armor)
- probably something else I can’t think of atm

all awhile, the supply didn’t change. You can still only craft 1 ascended mat a day.
