This will get you to level 60 and by then you should have a better idea of what you are doing with the class. Welcome aboard and happy engineering!!!
Edit: Also make sure you practice all your self combos and learning how to squeeze in all the blast finishers you can in a short 3 second field, this will become invaluable to you as an engineer if you truly want to maximize your effectiveness. There are various threads about combo fields and blast finishers on these forums, although sometimes they may be buried behind pages of other posts and the search function is less than reliable, so if you have any specific questions about that you can always just ask!
(edited by ShadowPuppet.3746)
I am just guessing here, but I think the reason it is the rectangle shape is because of the duration of the fire field being ten seconds. It gives you time to position yourself to make use of it. Beyond that I honestly can’t figure a reason for it being the shape it is now, unless the skill initially did something different from what it does now and the field shape just never got updated.
Most of the items you listed off that aren’t in this update are because they are content. This is not a content update, this is a feature pack. Content updates usually, but not exclusively, take the forum of living world updates or festivals.
You realize almost no one actually cares about that other stuff, right?
We want more content.
That’s the bottom line.
I’ll understand if you can’t deliver – but you should tell us now.
Stop giving us the runaround.
Either you can deliver more content (new maps, new dungeons, new class, new weapons, new playable race, new skills) or you cannot deliver more content.
We want an expansion, not necessarily more LS (not to say that LS should be abandoned – just that it does not substitute for the content we want).
So, that’s where we stand – either tell us more content is coming, or tell us it isn’t coming.
It’s a very simple question to answer.
Please do not act or speak like you’re speaking for the entirety of the player base. If that is your (and possibly your friends’) opinion, say so as well.
Actually, it’s obvious from the reaction of the player base.
Entire Guilds quitting, people leaving the game. Uproar on the forums.
The number of people who are happy with this game are in the minority.
Actually you can’t use the forums to speak for what is a majority or minority without having some other metrics to qualify that statement. What percentage of the playerbase actually visits the forums and of those how many actually post something? Is it acceptable to assume that people tend to vent their frustrations more than share their praise? If so, then that will also skew the results since the happy people are simply playing the game. These are the types of questions you really need to ask yourself before making an assertion that the playerbase is x, as if your perception makes it factual.
Aint bombs affected by the Power?
Yes, though I suspect that it will depend on your ability to keep players in your 240 radius how much benefit you will receive from that. Bomb kit is notorious for lacking burst damage (BoB aside) and excels when you are able to remain close to the target. If you focus on condi duration/condi damge then at the very least you only need to initially catch someone in the radius to apply the condition as opposed to needing to keep them within the radius.
Edit: Also you could replace rocket boots with eg since that will give you a stun break, blast finisher/escape, condi clear, and a reliable way to apply bleed/weakness for cover conditions to allow burning a better chance to stay un-cleansed. I basically use the same setup as vince in terms of utilities, replace rifle with giver’s p/s and use rabid gear everything else, it’s a cheap and easy to obtain setup with great survival potential. Obviously because of the lower health pool you will need food and sigils to help deal with condi’s but you can laugh off most direct damage from all the toughness.

Honestly, I think it’s best to reserve any judgment until we actually see how the changes work in game. People have made huge issues out of other skill changes in the past (stealth for ranger anyone?) which have turned out to be not nearly as worrisome as people made it out to be. This change could potentially buff mesmer’s to ridiculous levels for 1v1’s in WvW but beyond that I don’t think it is going to have a huge impact, as an aside Anet does not balance around 1v1’s in any game mode.
Basically any build you want so long as you have at least 1 kit and the speedy kit trait. Map completion does not require anything special beyond being able to travel the map as quickly as possible to lessen the amount of time needed. Rifle with jump shot can get you across small gaps, rocket boots as well and even elixir gun’s acid bomb if you are good with about face jumping. The bomb kit is pretty fantastic pre-80 and even after since most normal mobs don’t live long enough to really make the vuln stacking from grenades worthwhile. The good thing is, at least you are not locked into traits now so if you do need to change them to suit a particular circumstance you are free to do so provided you are not in combat.
I’d rather have a single account level birthday present than individual character ones, because I’d rather be free to delete an old character without the feeling of losing years worth of progress. Luckily GW2 isn’t following the GW1 route with RNG presents, so it’s not as bad.
I’m with you on this, I can’t understand why it is character based instead of account based. In the beginning I created and deleted lots of characters over the first few weeks and months until I figured out exactly what I wanted. In fact I am still doing this, trying out various race and profession combinations just to try and keep things fresh. As it stands now I have one character left that is basically from the game start and even it is a few weeks older than when I actually started playing the game, so I am always on a delay.
just an FYI for the QQ storm
How to Calculate Torment Damage!
(0.0375 * Condition Damage) + (0.375 * Level) + 1.875 per stack per second
(0.0375 * Condition Damage) + 31.875 per stack per second at level 80and for Comparison, the most ever present condition in game.. Bleeding!
(0.05 * Condition Damage) + (0.5 * Level) + 2.5 per stack per second
(0.05 * Condition Damage) + 42.5 per stack per second at level 80So, why all the QQ over Torment on AA?
Scepter 1 applies 2s of 1 stack
Auto chain pauses for 1/2 s for Chain #2
2 applies 2s of TormentLets pause for a moment, if you did get hit by both of these that means you currently have 2 stacks of torment on you
Auto chain pauses for 1s, yes 1 full second cast time on this attack.
Pause again, you now have 1 stack of torment with 1s remaining on it.
3 fires off. if it hits it generates a clone. if it misses then no clone and we’re back to step 1
Lets say the clone was generated
1/2s cast time on AA Chian #1. you likely do not have any torment on you anymore or maybe slightly less than 1/2s of 1 stack.
Clone also has a 1/2s cast time. but when it hits it only applies 1s of torment.
Both attacks hit you, oh dear, you now have 2 stacks of confusion,
Clone now cannot attack due to mechanics for 1 full second
AA Chain #2 now takes 1/2s to charge upetc etc…
lets say you end up somehow fighting a mesmer with 3 clones up still only doing AA and using no other skills.
each clone can only apply 1s of torment and then must wait 1s to attack again. thats how clones work btw.. that means if all three clones hit at once thats 3 stacks of Torment for 1s also known as 1 tick or damage application.
The playre can only ever himself/herself keep a maximum of 2 stacks of torment roughly every 3 seconds (scpeter AA chain takes 3.9 seconds to cycle through completely, its the SLOWEST AA CHAIN IN THE GAME)
The max torment damage you can take from AA clones + AA mesmer is 5 stacks for 1 tick.
But where does bleeding come in?
Here is where.
In the world of conditions Bleeding is can be considered as a 1
Burning is somewhat like a 3
Torment on an unmoving target is a .75
and on a moving target is a 1.50Lets calculate bleed and torm at 1 stack with 0 for condition damage at level 80
Torment
Unmoving = 32per tick
Moving = 64 per TickBleeding
Constant = 42.5 per tickNow, to explain further, Conditions only gain serious footing when stacks appear and can be held for long durations. Realistically you are going to dodge/block/evade or just plain cause a miss on more than a few of the AA attacks that come in projectile form, regardless of class. We can also assume that either on purpose or by accident, provided you play any of the 6 classes that come with Cleave / AoE attacks, you will be murdering clones left and right.
Torment is not going to get very many stacks and if it does, not for very long in this case.
Bleeding on the other hand often comes with 3 4 5 6 7 etc.. durations for almost any of its applications and its extremely easy to apply for any class. Its easy to stack up and easy to quickly restack when removed.
TL;DRYou as a player will have to worry more about Bleeding from Clone AA’s caused by Sharper Images (a trait mesmers have) than you will torment. If anything, cry about IE finally working with Staff and ask to nerf that, its going ot be hitting you a hell of a lot harder.
TY <3
Shhh, don’t talk about the IE changes…
So do Engineers…
Crate much?
Again as I posted to someone else, it depends on the game mode. It’s next to worthless when you are fighting large groups of anything such as in PvE or in WvW with the zerg (although at least it does have a short interrupt which can be handy at times). So primarily it is ok for a 1v1 situation or in a situation where you are forced to fight on a small spot like in sPvP.
Supply drop and thieves guild are two of the best elites in the game. Try to be considerate to others and not post on this forum if you’re just going to mislead people.
Supply drop can be good for sPvP or 1v1 roaming in WvW but it’s really not worth much at all in PvE or in large groups in WvW. So I suppose it really just depends on which area of the game we are referring to.
I will say this and please understand I am not being mean, but if you really struggle with being able to move around during combat you may be in for a rather disappointing experience. It’s true that there are classes and armor weapon set combinations that can minimize the amount of movement needed, but certain open world events even being the “tankiest” you can be still won’t be enough to keep you from eating dirt. Movement during combat is a central tenet to this game, as well as actively mitigating damage through blinds, blocks, dodges etc etc. There is still plenty you can experience in open world pve, but there are things you simply won’t be able to accomplish without being able to move around. I certainly am not trying to discourage you from playing just be prepared to spend a lot of time running back from the waypoints until you get it all worked out for you. Good luck and happy hunting!!!
OK. Unfortunately, this may just not be the MMO for me.
Obviously you have already purchased the game, so you may as well try some of the suggestions listed in this thread first before deciding. You may discover that you are able to do everything that you want to do without needing to move around. You can of course as someone mentioned get to level 80 without ever leaving the starter zone if you so wished, it’s mostly once you get to the level 80 zones that it may be an issue.

There are no points of view to consider here.
One side was exploiting for profit.
The other side, intentionally or unintentionally, angered the other side by playing the game as it was intended by completing the event when they had the desire and means to do so. The motivations of the group that was playing properly are completely irrelevant. They haven’t broken the game’s mechanics nor done any explicit action that should, if the quest were working in a healthy way and the community wasn’t going out of their way to exploit an oversight in the game’s mechanics, cause any distress. There can be no “deserving” any of the harassment that they had probably gotten in return unless they, in turn, had dealt out verbal harassment of their own.
Completing an event as intended isn’t griefing. You can attach any stigma or personality you want to it, but it’s still just performing a natural function of the game that should not have clashed with the desires of another group to begin with.
And no, abusing fail states and reset timers isn’t a natural state of the game. Quests can fail, but they are intended to fail when there is an insufficiency in the numbers and/or skill of the players (or lack thereof) participating in the event.
Except that as was often the case it was anything but unintentional.
Did I stutter?
Apparently.
If I recall correctly it also has a much larger radius of being able to be seen versus typing something in the /say box.

I thought they were already able to turn on/off their commander tags? I do agree with Ashen though, it would be nice if we had the option to simply not see them.

Right, but it is Anet’s job to handle it not the individuals on either side of the farm/no farm argument. I agree that failing should never be more profitable than succeeding but it’s not my call to enforce that since it is a game design issue. In other words, when these things happen simply report or make a polite post about it and move on, no need for people to take it upon themselves to try and enforce their particular view.
My point is that Anet has 2 ways of enforcing it. If the behavior isn’t too bad, punish the people harassing people for playing the way you don’t like.
If the behavior (as in this case) IS to harmful, you make the behavior impossible.
I honestly think they want to reduce farm trains as much as possible, but they’re keeping an intentionally light hand in doing it.
Not likely, the way the game is setup lends itself to farming otherwise you wouldn’t need to collect 500 of this or 250 of that. You have to repeat “content” over and over to get what you want. I am sure Anet wants people to complete the event chains as intended, but unless Anet drastically changes the way you go about getting things in the game the behavior of taking the easy way is going to be far too tempting for many people to resist. Either way, the farm trains should not be rude to others… but the anti-farmers often times are simply just doing it to be kittens since as evidenced it was never about completing events since they are no longer in this zone.
Again – I’m not saying that getting the best gear should be easy. I’m all for locking it behind extremely challenging content.
What I don’t want to do is to repeat that content over and over – i.e., farming.
Purple enemies in dungeons should drop an dungeon armor skin for that dungeon guaranteed, for example.
Legendary weapons should have a chance of dropping from world bosses, for example.
I shouldn’t have to “run” dungeons over and over and over to get something.
I should merely have to play it 1-3 times to get what I want – then move on to the next challenge.
If that meant actually making the content harder – I’d be fine with that.
I’m not complaining about difficulty – I’m complaining about repetitiveness. The grind.
The farming.
Stop the farming.
Gaming is not a second job. It’s not a chore.
It’s a kitten game, for god’s sake.
You are supposed to have fun.
Now, if “farming” is your idea of fun, then the changes I propose would in no way stop you from doing that.
You could still kill the same thing over and over and over again, if that’s your thing.
But, for those of us who like to experience content a couple times (at most), and then move on to something new, with the stuff we got from the last encounter – well, we would be able to do that.
Without farming for it.
What I’m asking for is an end to farming – even if it meant raising the difficulty.
The only problem with locking something behind a high difficulty challenge is that it excludes certain segments of the player population which Anet has gone out of their way to avoid. Also no matter how difficult you make something, some people will always be able to chew through the content at break necks speeds, so in order to keep people playing you get the grind to keep them busy. Personally I think the most challenging content in the game should be involved in obtaining a legendary weapon since in it’s current state the only thing legendary about a legendary is the patience required to make it.
Just tested in HotM, ranger runes do still provide the +damage with a mini active.
Thanks for testing!!!
as an addendum, its an interesting world where the people who get the most crap aren’t the roleplayers, they’re the train-farmers.
That’s because you have people who feel it is their responsibility to enforce their interpretation of an obscure moral code on others, or at least that is what they would have you to believe. “I’m just looking out for the best interests of x” is a common theme, as if it is their job to enforce such things. Similar to the people who get in the passing lane and go slow simply because they think they are doing a service by slowing down the speeders when that is not their job and they are just as likely to cause an accident by impeding the flow of traffic.
A good rule of thumb is that it’s tempting but not safe to assume it’s the other guy.
More likely it’s that train-farms are intrusive and sometimes disruptive to a zone.
At the least you get the Frostgorge case: Constant “Where’s the train?!” messages and yelling at people for trying to do kills out of order.
Worse, you get the CS case, where as other people say it pretty much kills other big events in the zone in addition to the chatter.
~~~
When it’s too disruptive, players get kittened and start acting up, which of course escalates the whole conflict (see trolling accusations above).
For each case, Anet has to make a decision about which way to go on it. It’s not adversely effecting in frostgorge so they left the train in. It was really bad for new players in QD, so they killed it. It’s both unintended behavior and messing up the zone with Blix, so they’re pushing it away.
I read in another thread that the mini-pet thing had been patched. Can we get confirmation on this, one way or the other?
I will check into it, it very well could have been patched recently and I not have caught that since I don’t use them anymore.
Cause they got nothing better to do with their time right now amirite?
Zerker
you can run Strength runes because there is a rotation with engi to keep up 12 stacks of might for he party
or you can just go scholar and ignore that
I would say it’s situational but, ranger runes are also a option so long as you have a mini pet. It’s what I used before switching to the strength runes. You do lose 175 power and 3% damage bonus but gain 175 precision and not having to worry about being above 90% health to get the bonus. So it’s a good alternative to look into, especially if you don’t have someone who can provide things like fury and spotter.
Bomb AA deals about 30% more damage than grenade AA. However grenade AA applies 3x as much vulnerability as the bomb AA.
I see you completely ignore the bleeds you get on grenade.
I only apply bleeds on sharp – don’t tell me you trait for bleed on crit …
In PvE of course you are gonna take shrapnel most of the time if using the GK. The larger explosive radius doesn’t do much for you since you really only go into BK for the fire field for might stacking, and there really isn’t a better choice at adept. I suppose you could take EA but my endurance is full more than it isn’t in which case that trait is literally doing nothing most of the time. APT and EW are also extremely situational, since you rarely want to do any knockbacks on mobs if you can help it, though I suppose a case can be made for EW if you kite mobs that are not immune to cc effects.
Edit: I suppose the case for forceful explosives really will depend on whether or not you play with a group of people on a regular basis or not. Chances are if you do play with a group of players frequently you won’t need the extra radius unless you specifically are wanting to camp bomb kit because you don’t need the vuln stacks. Mileage may vary for each person, I just don’t find it incredibly useful.
(edited by ShadowPuppet.3746)
Yup, for solo bombs sure deal moarrr damage.
Btw “the only vuln stacker”: Take a look at the vulnerability stacks, especially against bosses. Without an engineer in my pt I’ve never seen a constant 25 stacks on vuln on bosses and often the vuln just spikes.
You using giver’s p/s and something like koi cakes? I tend to pug a lot these days and can’t decide if really dedicating myself to maximizing vuln is worth giving up rifle and what not for it since there are times when I am the only one left standing and I rather just finish the boss faster solo heh.
It’s important to use barrage in the beginning of a fight, beacuse it will stack vulnerability extremly fast. It’s the same reason why to use grenade auto and not bomb auto (looking in your direction Rozbuska).
You must think about the team dps, not about your own dps. Sure grenade barrage deals more damage if you first stack vulnerability with grenade 1, however the damage the team deals more because you started with barrage to stack vuln from the beginning is higher.
Bomb AA deals about 30% more damage than grenade AA. However grenade AA applies 3x as much vulnerability as the bomb AA. The passive damage is higher, since your team will deal more damage.You have to use Bomb AA if the enemies are spread a bit, to hit them all with the higher splash. Or when the enemies are at 22-25 stacks vulnerability.
Valid point from the perspective of dungeon/fractal running for sure and if you are the only vuln stacker.
I would say ideally, you want to stack your might and vuln before using barrage (just my opinion as I haven’t bothered much with running numbers since I am too lazy to manually parse). Although I suppose this will depend on a few factors such as what you are fighting and where (open world, dungeons etc etc). At the end of the day I think the only rotation that really matters is being able to consistently pull off the might stacking both in and out of combat.
I will leave this here…
http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/88640-guide-to-learning-leveling-and-loving-the-engineer/
Edit: Not to try and discourage you from playing engineer, but to be as absolutely effective as possible it is a class that uses high actions per minute. Just keep in mind that you won’t find a single hard hitter like what a 100b is, rather Engie does it’s damage through a combination of skills. As an example using the bombkit, you can drop a fire field, switch to elixir gun and use the acid bomb for the blast finisher (plus animation cancel the leap back) and then switch back into bomb kit in a matter of a second or two. It becomes second nature after awhile and you stop having to think about what to do and just do it, but it does take some time and practice to be truly effective.
(edited by ShadowPuppet.3746)
Also, the more I think about the proposed changes to ft the less convinced I become that it is going to be able to replace grenades/bomb kit as our goto damage kit. The main reason being is vulnerability application or lack thereof, without steel packed powder doing the heavy lifting precise sights does not add nearly as much vuln. Granted for soloing or open world pve it’s not as important, but if and when engies are brought along that is pretty much the niche we are expected to fill. Obviously at this point it is just speculation on my part, and I hope I am wrong because I just plain like the asthetic of using a flamethrower. I just don’t think the damage buff is gonna be enough to offset all the other utility you get out of using nades/bombs without some serious trait re-works on anet’s part.
Personally, I would not recommend using hgh for anything pve, the time spent chugging and tossing potions offsets the damage increase from the stacks of might, especially since we have other ways to stack might that benefits other people as well as ourselves via fire fields and blast finishers. Once we see what the actual changes will be (meaning they are in the game and not just speculation of what intentions are) maybe my opinion will change. Having said this, I agree with Malhavoc on the gear choice with the caveat being that if you can afford it, strength runes and sigils are probably your best bet by far in terms of increasing your damage and helping others out as well through longer lasting might stacks.
The rest of the engineer rifle skills are meant to be close-med range skills more shotgun like in nature than rifles. Yes, I realize you still shoot shotguns from the shoulder and not the hip, but it is sort of a nod to bad action movies. Personally for me I would rather see more sawed off shotgun like skins, and it would be much simpler to code than changing animations.
If you want “complexity” a multi kit engineer ranks up there as one of the most “difficult” to play well. I put those two words in quotes to highlight that none of the classes are really either of those two things in a strict sense. If you like having tons of skills to use though kit engi is great since there is really no cooldown between switching kits, you can jump around between kits a lot and it makes for very active play style to be effective. Despite the assertions from some posters, all of the classes are pretty close to each other in terms of overall damage potential, but they all go about it in different ways and some like engi don’t have a press 4 “I win” button.
Tera Online mastered it actually. Vindictus is technically an mmo too but plays more like a hack’n slash. And then I think there’s a few other ones like C9 and some Korean ones that aren’t available here yet.
Thing about Tera is, you are rooted when attacking unlike GW2. Here you can move while attacking which puts GW2 combat above Tera’s combat system in my opinion.
~snip~
If you could run in circles and spam 1 on some classes in Tera it would completely trivialize the content because of Tera’s combat system and it’s AI. In Tera you are constantly avoiding attacks through your classes mechanics, abilities, and positioning. If I could take any melee class from gw2 against Tera’s AI I could just run in circles and spam 1 and win. The fact that you can move and attack in one game and not the other has no bearing on the dominance of one combat system over the other. What I can say is that Tera has much more engaging and difficult combat mechanics. When mastered they are far more rewarding than anything I have encountered in gw2. Collision is also an important factor in action combat, something that gw2 also lacks.
Berserker’s with their giant axe is pretty much everything you describe in Tera, and it does trivialize much of the content, especially once you get higher in levels and don’t suffer the movement penalty.
Moar thoughts and ideas would be brilliant
shrug I like it how it is. Not sure why we get these suggestions once in awhile that want to completely rework something about the Engi (to your credit a couple of the skills are the same just… better in every way? lol).
Maybe it’s just semantics, but intro this as a new weapon, or new elite, or something and I would be more on board. Completely changing what is honestly quite a good weapon doesn’t really sit well with me. Especially when it’s stems from simply the name of the weapon being “rifle” not “shotgun”. Who cares what weapon class it falls into, it’s clearly a shotgun! I don’t like seeing these threads that pop up once in awhile “the rifle is too much like a shotgun, change it!”.
Honestly the worst part is just that there aren’t many shotgun type skins, most are closer to sniper rifles. Including the legendary q_q. WTB shotgun themed legendary!
So much this, I have been searching and searching for a rifle skin that looks closer to a shotty, because I like the current mid to close range feeling to playing engi (exception nades, but even them I use in close most of the time any how)
we all put our pants on one leg at a time.
want to buy guide to putting on pants
http://www.wikihow.com/Put-On-a-Pair-of-Pants
That will be $22.50 please!!!
It’s actually really simple, most of the time it’s not what is being said but rather how it’s being said that kittenes people off on either side of the fence. The whole “elitist” vs “casual” argument is as old as mmorpg’s. Everyone just needs to remember, that regardless of skill level or understanding of game mechanics we all put our pants on one leg at a time.
So three pages of “You started it” “No you started it” back and forth am I right? What happens to people like me who like to be an elitist and phiw? I have kicked myself out of my own groups before because I am too kitten awesome and got jelly of myself.
(edited by ShadowPuppet.3746)
To be honest, if you don’t want to keyboard dance and press a lot of buttons then engineer is probably not the right class to play. I don’t mean that in a harsh way, it’s just the truth that the majority of the time engi’s are a high apm class (if you want to get the most out of running one effectively). I only say this because, there is no difference in terms of stress on the hand in pressing one repeatedly or pressing other buttons to switch kits and use various skills repeatedly.
(edited by ShadowPuppet.3746)
Basically almost never lose to a necro I can count on one hand the amount of necro that have actually been able to beat me on my engi
this guys attitude was very bad but he was one of the best necro I vs so far
soloq
And that kid is the reason the world is doomed, what a little kitten stain… Nice job making him taste the dirt.
For the love of god, please don’t make them remove the on interrupt effect
It’s absolutely lovely paired with chaotic interruption.
Why is it everyone is so keen on removing the on interrupt? because they don’t use interrupt themselves?
Agree – but there is absolute need for a ICD. Not really for Mes – Engies are far more exploiting this set.
I would say Warriors – 9 stacks of Confusion for EVERY interrupt is simply insane. Engineer might have quite a few but its not as much of a threat as Warrior with them and that distracting Strikes trait.
Don’t play a warrior so I am not really sure, but how well do their weapon sets with interrupts mesh in terms of condi damage? I know you can get a ton using m/s but that is a pretty poor condi setup other than for the interrupts with these runes. As far as I know the popular condi damage builds use s/s + sb which only leaves interrupts to utilities.
The Engineer is the most consistent across the aforementioned game modes, from the professions you mentioned. I’d go Engi, of those, for sure.
The Ranger is objectively one of the bottom classes in the game across all game types other than PvP. People exaggerate everything, good or bad, Ranger or not, but that doesn’t invalidate the complaints. Any class can be useful when in the hands of a good player, but that, again, doesn’t invalidate its issues. The Ranger has minimal utility and poor damage in comparison to other professions. It’ll perform better in small groups (ie. dungeons) than in larger groups (ie. WvW zerging), but is still not going to match the damage of something like a Warrior, or the utility of something like a Mesmer. It’s a jack of all trades, master of none sort of profession. The pet is also useless anywhere that you’ll be facing heavy AoE (dungeons, WvW, large events, etc), and the buffs they give don’t make up for the loss in DPS when you have to keep them out of the fight.
If we’re talking single target DPS, the ranger can match a theif’s and is far superior to an engi. Of course a ranger doesn’t beat a warrior for max dps, but then again, no class does… The main thing wrong with the ranger class is the pet. It makes up a portion of our damage and the majority of the time that damage from the pet is wasted. I can still out damage people without my pet, so saying we rangers lack dps is ignorant.
For solo roaming I would go with ranger, engi has nice conditions, but power/crit build wise, the ranger wins out. Of course if you really want a solo build just go with a perma stealth theif, that should get the job done..
Lol, warrior is not the hardest hitting class in the game in terms of actual dps. I find it funny people still think this, then again many people use the term dps (damage per second) when what they are actually referring to is dpa (damage per activation). The real reason warriors are so sought after in pve is because they are easy to achieve results with which makes them very pug friendly.
Almost all the ones posted in the Build thread are outdated.
I suck at theorycrafting. I posted a build here last night and it got torn to shreds. I’m sick of my Engineer feeling useless and every time I try to build something, I just end up wasting money and then everybody tells me what I was doing is stupid and flawed.
So I’m done. I’m done trying to make my class work for me. All my ideas suck and it’s apparently impossible for me to come up with anything that’s good.
All I want is to be helpful in PvE. Control/support/whatever. I want to be a helpful member in a dungeon.
Give me a build. I don’t care what it uses as long as it works.
Basicly your build wasn’t bad. I just pointed out what you can improve but u act like a girl.
~snipped~
Sorta curious what this statement is meant to imply. I can make assumptions, but I would rather see you explain this for yourself.
Honestly an ICD on the 6th part wouldn’t hurt us too bad, except for builds that are solely using interrupts like Engineers and Thieves are. TBH I would welcome an ICD on the 6th part.
Pretty easy to get 15 stack of confusion without the interrupt portion of the runes with a engi using pistol, bomb kit and toolkit. I would probably continue to still use them on my engi build regardless of if it gets a icd on the 6/6 unless I really feel like I need the toughness from undead for some reason.
so they will not confirm there will be level caps or no level caps etc?
for example,
1. we will raise level caps.
2. we will not raise level caps.its neither?
Basically they are taking a stance of non committal to a specific position. It is a common tactic used in Public Relations in every sector you can conceive of and is not specific to just games or even Anet specifically. The officials in Washington DC often use this tactic so that later they can practice plausible deniability if something goes awry. Sound familiar?
I have different conversations with friends.
What’s new in the game. The living story. This week we’re fighting T’quatl. It’s a pretty epic dragon battle. Next week, there’s a new dungeon path coming into the game.
It’s not about what’s gone, it’s about what’s coming. You’re always two weeks away from something new…and you never know what it’s going to be.
To me that’s a selling point.
Fair enough point, that for you it sells the game. There are quite a few people who don’t see it this way. I don’t know the numbers nor do you, but it is fair to say that there are going to be people who dislike temporary content. I happen to be one of those players and obviously I am not alone in feeling that way as some of these recounting’s can attest to.
I predicted this.
Well of course you did, it’s the way making artificial time sinks in the form of gear versus content works. Anyone who understands statistical progression and what it leads to, knows what is to come eventually.
I think the Forum Warrior is the most fun class.
Think about it, as far as DPS goes, few classes can rival the sheer damage that can be done like the Forum Warrior – with his endless stream of self-important posts on thread after thread, the damage over time is quite impressive.
And from a role-playing perspective, no other class can pull it off as well as the Forum Warrior. He can pretend to have inside information as to what the game developers think and intend for the game. Heck, he can even pretend to be “defending” something or someone, while in truth he is only feeding his narcissistic self-absorption . So when it comes to pretending, or better stated, being pretentious, it’s hard to rival the dedicated Forum Warrior.
And last but not least, by his consistent spam-posting on every thread imaginable he can even assume the position of Un-Official forum moderator. Wagging his finger and tsk-tsking those that disagree with him, while taking every opportunity to maintain his achievement point lead in boot-licking and butt-kissing.
So my vote is for the Forum Warrior; because while not an easy class to play, it can be quite rewarding once mastered since you get to reverse-troll endlessly without facing the repercussions of traditional trolls.
………..
Win.
Seconded and sustained!
