There will be plenty of places doing it at a discount once the game has been released if you want to wait.
Anet famously does not give a crap about Rangers…
Funny that I keep reading this about every class on every forum.
My thoughts exactly. Every time I go looking for a class to main, all I’m met with on the forums is “DON’T DO IT, WE SUCK AND WILL NEVER GET BETTER”.
Ask them if they’d swap their position in the meta of Guild Wars 2 with Ranger. That will always be a resounding no.
Ya dungeon/fractal created the zerk meta because they are too hard. That’s someone that know how the game work
But there is a valid concern in there. How hard do they make it? There game is already unbalanced how long before it so hard, or only the top DPS can do it? How long before it becomes extremely elitist?
Games with a trinity had an easier time balancing because each class had a specific roll to fulfill, it had direction and in my experience no one class couldn’t turn up. In our current dungeons “the easy one” our sPvP and WvW experiences we currently have the meta and the rest and even in some cases the unwanted (those kicked, rejected and in some cases abused).
The reason I’m apprehensive when it comes to harder content is some classes already lag behind, making it harder for the top makes it impossible for the bottom, at which point it may seem “valid” to cast aside those classes.
What would be the reward here? We’re already going in with top level stuff…
A day away from PAX, there biggest announcement of the year after the expansion itself? On twitter? Yeah, sounds like a symbolic gesture…
Haha the irony.
trying to get people who are upset about f2p and raids to forget they are upset and make them stop talking about that anger and start talking about happy for release date
I think that’s why they were saving the announcement to go alongside Raids. That was then blown, everyone focused on it and now they’ve had to throw some more info out to try and stop the backlash.
If they had planned for a “limitless adventure” on these F2P accounts, I think from the amount of rage on the forums, we may see a U-turn on that and we might see a “Trial-like” package to appease those who’ve had the game 3 years.
Think we’re all missing the point here, Ranger isn’t there, it’s been banned until it can be brought into line with the rest of the classes, nerfs incoming.
Didn’t someone mention it said “Limitless adventure”? Would be weird to have an asterisk next to it… unless it’s a small bait and switch.
I don’t understand why so many people are surprised, ANET have come out and said it themselves, they’ve shown they want NEW players. I’m guessing the cash shop is making them more money in the long run than box sales. The fact end game is dressing up, putting skins in the store is a great money maker.
I’d figure the current market of active players is saturated, maybe numbers aren’t buying like they used to, why push to a crowd who’ve purchased everything already when you could get NEW players in to buy new stuff AND all the old stuff?! It’s perfect business sense, bad for those who’ve played the game? Possibly, but this is business.
Stop exaggerating what I said. I said nothing of the sort that you are suggesting. And by the way, you think your class is the worst, stop by a couple of the other profession forums such as the necromancer forum and maybe you’ll see differently.
Basically those of you complaining about the Ranger, you can go to the other forums and switch out the word Ranger for the word of one of the other professions and see them complaining how bad theres are as well. Frankly, it’s quite an exaggeration.
It was exaggerated because I was trying to make a joke at the same time, so it was for comedic effect, although to be fair the sentiment makes for a cruel joke in and of itself.
Before the CDI many people stepped forward and said “I don’t even play Ranger but you’ve got to do that first, it’s simply broken.” We could go back and forth all day over which classes are here, there or anywhere in the meta, but Rangers are fundamentally flawed.
Imo its feels kinda sad that they seem to use druid as a way to fix Ranger instead of fixing the class and THEN giving them an elite spec
well who am I kidding they probably wont even bother fixing druid aswell considering the abuse us Ranger has had to live with for the last 3 years
Got a feeling it goes one of two ways, we’ve seen our spirits decimated so they step in like a saviour and bam! Druid / Spirits! Rejoice… -.- (Now thank us peasants!)
Or oh those pets are awful, can’t hit anything always die etc, here have some tools that make it a little better for you, maybe roots or protection for him on 60 second cds. (Now thank us peasants!)
It will be a giant band aid, you’re completely right, the class needed to be in the right place before adding to it and I feel they’ll use this as the opportunity to just patch things up adding new bugs along the way.
What difference does it really make? Specifically talking about Ranger, how many times have we posted feedback over the last 3 years? What makes you think one weekend will have any real major effect on something they don’t care about any way? You just need to look at things that are still broken, or comments like “Hey it’s your class mechanic, we’re not going to get rid of it, but oh, yeah we’re not fixing it either, too much work.”
Well, they are probably the glassiest thing in the game, surely for balance they need a huge damage output right? =P
Haven’t you heard SkiTz? Rangers are hot property, wanted in every part of the game by every group. Top PvP teams, WvW guilds and GvG teams and Dungeon runners! They’re a must have, so glad we’re in such a great place in the game right now and we’re never the butt of any joke…
Haha, brilliant Jcbroe, they probably wouldn’t even notice anyways given the amount of time and attention they’ve paid to Rangers over the last 3 years.
Personally I feel this was either intentional and or they’re realising just how broken the class is and can’t get it finished in it’s intended time slot. (Funny how we’ve gone in perfect order of profession from their own profession page except ONE class.)
Leaving us last is just another excuse to not listen once they’ve done it, who cares anyways the specialisation is only going to be a band aid for everything that is broken anyways. I’m actually curious to see if they’ve had an original thought in the last 3years when it comes to the profession.
“Rewarding” someone is not the same as “punishing” others.
Anet: Do you want to participate in the rehearsal?
PlayerA: No thanks, I’ll wait for the premiere.
Anet: Ok, see you later then.Anet: Do you want to participate in the rehearsal?
PlayerB: Yes, I’ll do it.
Anet: Yay, thank you! Here, have some cookies.
…That’ll be £30 thanks.
I see Thief staff being an alternative to stealth, using it as a heavy acrobatic / dodge / evade mechanics like a Wushu-esq melee weapon. Would allow build diversity so stealth didn’t have to be the class crutch.
they are ok with doubling up on weapons is what it means.
Though its possible they changed plans on druid.
Who knows, they’ve already skipped our reveal (based on the profession page and the fact every reveal has followed it.) Guess they need a lot more time, maybe they’re really pushing the boat out, but going by past example it’s probably broken and or old spagetti code holding it up.
I’d go as far as to say you’re next (after this warrior reveal). If this is just a coincidence or not https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/professions/ you’re next in line, then Engi. The only one who was skipped out most likely due to “not being ready” is yup… Ranger.
Nailed it.
What do you get someone that has everything…?

Also, for the person saying we need to stop this pre-ordering/pre-purchasing because it’s ruining the industry, that’s your opinion and your entitled to it, I however will continue to pre-order/pre-purchase products that interest me based on past performance.
However you like to justify your purchase is your own choosing. We’ve seen the pre-order culture evolve, we can see where it’s been and where it leads. We complain about more and more things being held behind paywalls and pieces cut out and resold to us, we also complain about subpar products. People that buy into this have no one to blame but themselves and no right to complain about said product. You’re selling your power as a consumer and the attitude of “it’s ok when [they] do it” will only hasten this.
There is a possible answer, unfortunately the only people who know are the same ones who chose this statistic over the more sensitive one. To be honest I don’t blame them either, but hey, it’s my own personal peeve of over stating and PR fluff that annoys me more than this being one company doing something, they all do, I agree.
I take it this still includes all the double accounts people have and the HoT pre-purchase too. So how many do we divide by to get individual players?
Same as every single mmo that does the same. You think people don’t have multiple WoW or Eve accounts? You think people didn’t have multiple Guild Wars 1 accounts? That’s the nature of the business.
I’m sure it is, but that hasn’t answered my question at all. My concern is population, not a genital waving contest between MMOs.

They’d have to remove the copy / paste job they did on the pet AI, not going to happen.

Players have the right to decide that they need more information about HOT’s content before buying and Anet has the right to draw out the reveal process as long as they want.
This is what baffles me, I cannot believe more people won’t wait. Unfortunately those who promote the pre-order culture will bring us all down with it eventually. How long before more of the game is locked away without a pre-order etc? Haven’t we seen enough of this kind of behaviour in the industry or is it only bad when companies like EA do it?

If nothing materializes OP I’d stick to your guns, don’t pre-order / purchase. We’ve tried to fight this ever increasing problem in the industry and I’m sure if you’d said EA or Ubisoft or Konami, many people in this forum would have your back. It’s a shame that we are rather fickle and cave in. Pre-ordering / Pre-purchasing are not good for the consumer. Hold out and vote with your wallet.
I was thinking what if they destroyed our current spirit trait line to involve them into the Druid elite spec trait line?
That or to not step on the shiny new class.

So has the Thief really been challenging to fix, test, and balance? If so let us know that, let us give you our ideas, and let us brainstorm.
No one will be behind Ranger, seeing as no one plays it, they’ve got to have at least a few months of actually trying it before “fixing and balancing”. You’re way ahead in the pecking order.
I’d go as far as to say you’re next (after this warrior reveal). If this is just a coincidence or not https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/professions/ you’re next in line, then Engi. The only one who was skipped out most likely due to “not being ready” is yup… Ranger.
Interesting, we continue to be in order on the Professions page, having only skipped Ranger. This gives me some hope for Thief next week, though as that will be the week leading up to PAX Prime we might not get a profession elite at all.
And makes me scared that Ranger will once again be glossed over as a profession with no direction.
With burning out of control right now, makes sense to give Warrior torch.
Reveal all elite specialisations before PAX
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Sicarius.4639
Ranger will get a staff and be told to go stand in a corner with their pet. They will get a new skill called ‘synergy attack’ that takes 3 times as long as a pet special to charge while staying rooted so 6-10 seconds after you press the attack button a gas cloud is released with a 240 radius around you that damages players in it’s radius for 1k per second for 5 seconds if they stay in it’s range.
Of course in pvp you’ll be dead or the target will be at the other side of the map, but that’s never stopped them giving pets 2-3 second skill activation times…
This is why I had some concern over how Anet are doing these BWE’s and their balancing. I’ve got a bad feeling we’re in the last weekend and that many other classes will have had their specializations looked after for quite some time and if anything is broken or not right it will be glazed over.
Reveal all elite specialisations before PAX
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Sicarius.4639
So we’ve just had BWE balancing on specializations that are currently available. So what happens to those that are yet to be revealed and may not make an appearance until the last BWE? Do these not get tested, or balanced after said event?
I’ve long been a fan of this idea and toyed with it in my head a lot, but given how the Revenant is calling upon past spirits / legends, won’t this be stepping on some toes?
This is why when the mechanic was announced I knew spirits would remain useless as they are because they’ll want to sell the Revenant class mechanic and don’t care that spirits are rubbish.
Hey guys I’ve always wonder who are the top roamers per class in NA and EU.
I’m not referring to only those who stream/twitch a lot, but also those who don’t but have really wowed you, either as your friend or your foe.and may I know what are the builds they are using?
thanks!
me
Scrub. :P
Let’s face it, everybody has been thinking about it. However, everytime i think about it, I don’t think I want to deal with F2P scrubs. I’d hate to see League of Legends type of community in this game. We do have scrubs in our own community as it is, but they are not as much.
Given the amount of people who play League of Legends, it’s highly likely the majority of people who play Guild Wars 2 are the League of Legends community.
Yeah that’s it, you probably just need to tame them all again, or at least, the ones you want to have.
This just helps reinforce the notion that rangers are “the afterthought profession”.
Wasn’t there a comment from a dev that it essentially was everything left over in the idea bag?
Simple as that, fire up your double Ele comp boys!
Asking Anet to rework Ranger is like asking your plumber to fix your Internet, we’re going to have to get someone who knows what their doing for this, thus we’re going to need them to start playing the class a lot. There’s about 3 years of catch-up needed, then we will see a rework. This is why it will NEVER happen.
There will be an influx with the expansion, although retention is a different thing.
Make Ranger hard to play like the other professions that are super strong and hard to play like…
I’d say it is almost certain there is a Christmas release in the works. Adding the base game to the expansion to get new players streamlines the gift buying process for said players, thus maximising profits. If there is a hard deadline to catch this window, I also expect an extremely buggy release.

PvE Dungeon Build: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ljux9o5FGM
Op I’m going to assume you don’t actually know where the name Ranger comes from but it has absolutely nothing to do with ranged weapons. It’s about patrolling a large area of land etc. Think of a park ranger or Rangers from Lotr that patrol the edges of civilized places.
However Bow builds are far from bad. Glassbow hits extremely hard and can stack vulnerability better than most classes if not all classes. If you get the jump on someone thats not a bunker they are going down in a few seconds alot of the time.
Except they absolutely do according to how Anet would like them to be in their world.
“They favor long-range combat, the bow being their weapon of choice, and can be especially effective from elevated locations such as bridges and cliffs.”
I don’t expect shape shifting either, Norns already do this and it’s awful. I honestly don’t know where they will take Ranger / Druid, with the lack of a trinity based system there isn’t much need for diversity, we’ve got spirit lore but we will no doubt be vastly overshadowed by Revenant in that respect as the “new shiny”. Anything remotely cool that could or should have happened to Ranger in that respect will find itself on Revenant I expect.
Hope I’m wrong, but we’ve lacked clear direction as a class for over 2 years, don’t expect that to change much now.
I foresee lots and lots of open field Arrow Carts and Karma training.
It will be like fighting Viz all over again! Currently watching Jade Sea doing the exact same thing this match (and last match up, thanks Anet for giving us the same one two weeks in a row).
Some servers / groups of players would much rather run right through you to the tower to dump 3 arrow carts than actually fight you. It’s incredibly boring and gets tedious rather quickly.
You definitely have numbers so you just need to organize a little better and this will make the match up more fun
We have a lot of sub 25 guild groups looking for fights rather than PPT, that’s what we find fun, so we’re never going to be on that level.
The game caters to all styles, but just rewards one.
We did not get where we are over night
Made me giggle given your tick …at night.
