I posted during the F2P announcement you could potentially create an environment where people would be looking over at those who’ve paid to have access to the Elites if not balanced correctly and call “P2W”. It’s going to be interesting.

Coming from someone who has mained Ranger for 3 years now, don’t main it.
Play it as a alt or something, sure.
But it is not worth it atm, play a Ele/Rev/Guardian. Maybe even necro/mesmer.

If you’re also keen on WvW then Necro and Mesmer are great for your groups.

It’s not as if it wasn’t pointed out that a class who has been pretty shafted for the last 3 years getting 1 BWE was a bad idea. Hell people even claimed it must be because it’s perfect and doesn’t need much testing.

It’s just an extremely poor showing from Anet, again.

Druids are fine in pvp. I’ve been doing well with mine.

Rather than whine about nerfs we should try and get bugs fixed. for example SoW doesnt work with druid for some reason.

Unless it’s a bug that helps us (shortbow a while back) it will be broken for a while, hey kinda like pets.

If players would rather grind out on spiders to get their Elite spec than jump through these gated hoops, then I think you’d have to look at the design over the players.

Clearly the alternative is either, longer, more boring or doesn’t provide a sense of satisfaction. Not to mention people wanted to play the elite specs and do the content not the other way around.

Once these guys have unlocked their spec, they’ve got plenty to play after, with the spec they really wanted, to be honest it’s kind of a smart idea.

1st) Mascot of HoT? I disagree, pretty sure that Revenant is.

2nd) MOST of my guild is super excited for Druids place in RAIDS! Druids have the best healing potential in the entire game. Watch them be sought out after for raids.

If there is any mascot elite spec, and not profession like OP said, it’s the druid. It has by far the most relevance the the region we explore in Hot. By. Far.

If the druid ends up being sought after in one area of one game mode, it’s an utter failure. If the druid was made simply with raids in mind, it is an utter failure. I’m not saying it is and will be, I’m saying that potential raid usefulness means nothing when we’re talking about an entire traitline.

Unfortunately with the change in direction and the adding of raids (with more mechanics) someone was going to be sacrificed to the trinity and when you’ve already run out of ideas with the base profession it was easy to see who’d get singled out.

We’ve been pigeon holed into a incredibly specific role and unfortunately for people like myself, this spec couldn’t have been further away from any Ranger archetype I’ve played or continue to look to play in other games. Not to mention it has got to be the most unimaginative spec so far.

250 HP For Elites [Feedback][Merged]

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Sicarius.4639

How much more are ArenaNet going to nerf? How much will they destroy their new expansion, and how much will they ruin for the future of Guild wars 2.
A few people on the forum and reddit is all it takes for them to change their minds. 400 HP for an elite specialization was good and nice progression as end game content. Now they decreased to 250. That’s not the only nerf though. They also made nerfs to the mastery system and story. Now you can progress without some of the masteries.

ArenaNet have to stop doing this to their game. They have to stop listening to some players that brings the game down. If HoT was casual content only and not end game, then I would have understood. HoT is end game though, it’s beyond lvl 80 and it needs good and rewarding progression. Without end game progression Guild Wars 2 will have no future and it will be nothing more than a shallow human being filled with botox.

#StopNerfing #NerfWars2

If the time it takes to fill that bar is what is important to you, I could show you a bunch of Korean MMOs that take forever to do that.

Anet have made it so you don’t need to spend as much time filling those bars to actually get to other parts that are important, like the specialisation and the story. The difficulty on those maps haven’t changed and if they never do, once people are done with that content no one will be able to do it alone.

There is the same amount of content as there was before the change, the time taken to do it has been shortened to allow you to actually have fun and get to the parts of the game that are exciting. Something they said in their manifesto all those years ago.

If you feel this is such a huge nerf, then you might want to think about how much content is really in this expansion, if it’s that big a deal maybe there just wasn’t enough content to begin with, maybe they needed to put time gates for a reason?

ANET gave TONS of clues about how to survive

Sicarius.4639

There is so much easy content in the game core PvE, Dungeons, Fractals(first levels), world bosses, etc.

Please don’t nerf the difficulty of HoT! I’m talking strictly about encounters, I don’t care about masteries and elite specializations. Make the first map more accessible, if you want, but please leave the rest as it is.

PvE in every other MMO is a brain dead autoattack grind, make this one stand out!

If it isn’t nerfed, when zones become dead or they try to move everyone to the next thing it will be impossible for anyone.

Unless it is changed in the future it will become a wasteland.

Levelling in Vanilla 1-80 now is absolutely nothing like Day 1.

Vague metacritic reviews and HoT feedback

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Sicarius.4639

Sicarius.4639

Here’s feedback. Someone in another thread mentioned that HoT had a metacritic rating of 4.3.

After that the votes began to rapid swing upward so it’s safe to assume that all the contrarians read that, then got together and said, ’Let’s go over to metacritic and vote 10.0 across the board. Just to show em’.’

WoodenPotatoes had a rant about the reviews and suddenly it crept upwards again as well.

10 guys, 10.

We think this is perfect? Come on. 0? No, it’s not the worst thing ever created in gaming.

It’s utter nonsense, just like Amazon reviews I click the 3-star ones, they always seem to be the most level headed people, talk about the real issues and positives and give a balanced outlook. 1’s are always talking about broken products on delivery and the 5’s usually tell you how amazing it is because it’s better than the last product they now hate because it broke.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Sicarius.4639

Most of it is worth ignoring, people are only giving 0’s and 10’s to bump the scores in the overall direction they feel it should be. Which is why it’s a terrible system.

Right after WoodenPotatoes did a rant about how the game wasn’t worth the 5.8 (or whatever it was sitting at) Metacritic score on his stream, it jumped up in score, the number of 10’s in a row were astonishing.

This expansion isn’t defining gaming (What a 10 score should be), it’s not the worst thing ever released (we have mobile games for that!) people need to just calm down a little bit, be more reasonable and just review it with their own personal score and forget about the overall number.

It’s worth mentioning that it’s now 7.0 on Metacritic. Pretty much shows that the majority of people who gave the expac a review so quickly were people who just had a grudge with a single decision that ANet made and didn’t really even play the content to get a well-rounded view.

Also worth mentioning that no one in this thread said 10 something that I think nearly 90% of the positive scores are (on Metacritic), not to mention this is as absurd as giving it a 0. This is far from perfect.

Personaly I think HoT is a move away from GW core values.

Which ones? When Factions was released we had to grind/farm/gain Luxon points. When Nightfall went out, I need to gather Lightbringer and Sunspear, to advance the story and get the related skills stronger. Things were event stronger in Eye of the North.
When expansion were released, if I wanted to get the new skills of my profession and all secondary profession (like Espec in HoT) I was put in front of a huge paywall : every single skill for 1k gold, plus the elite. For those last I had to actually run the same map several time to collect them all.
I don’t think GW cores have changed so much, but rather the players’ expectations.

“Most games you go out and you have really fun tasks occasionally and the rest of the game is this boring grind to get to the fun stuff. I swung a sword, I swung a sword again hey! I swung it again, that’s just great. We just don’t want players to grind in GW2, no one enjoys that, no one finds it fun…” – Colin Johanson

Those ones I guess.

I am not looking for any mmos ever again. I am pretty convinced that no company can make a good mmo and that mmo as a game type are fatally flawed by the past and the mechanics themselves that are seen as part of what makes up an mmo.

It is like every mmo is born with a poison pill and the inherent flaws of the agreed upon genre systems and the lack of imagination from developers doom each new project from the start.

I feel MMOs have a unique place in the market, their core essence is to keep people playing. It’s not like a standard single-player game in which you go through the content and essentially “complete it”. Some do have tacked on Multiplayer to keep you around for a little longer, usually something “arena based” (jump in jump out repetition).

MMOs are in the business of keeping you in game for as long as possible, keeping the player playing over hours, days, months, years. They often fall into traps of simply making things longer for the sake of making them longer, especially if they don’t have a lot of content in the first place.

MMOs are huge, they almost have to be! You either have to put together enough content to satisfy the extremes of what players can and will do, in terms of scale or you are very open and honest about what the restraints are on your company and game as a whole. i.e. We cannot push such and such a scale, we can only do x,y,z.

Outlining to the player exactly what your plans are at all points during the development (and continued development of the game) are essential to keeping the customers not only happy but engaged with the ideas and keep peoples feet on the ground. I feel this may be where a lot of the tension has been with regards to this particular expansion.

I think the only up side to all this, is that all the people who normally play other classes, but have recently rolled a Ranger, for Druid, will now see how Ranger is treated, firsthand.

Because, prior to this, we have been like the poor kid, who is bullied at school, because he/she is neglected at home.

“Home” being Anet, in this analogy.

It will be good for people, who didn’t care about the Ranger neglect, as they didn’t play one, to experience it first hand, on their Druids.

I expect they will just abandon Druid and go back to a more favoured class, but still.

Re. Irenio: sadly, it doesn’t really matter how much he is in our corner, if certain other devs (who have the final say) still want to keep Ranger down.

You’d think so but the general response I’m getting is “I don’t see nerfs oh look at all this awesome healing I’m doing!”.

Should’ve just stuck with cosmetics, pets, tools or w/e.

It’s rather interesting, seeing as the game doesn’t have vertical progression, a vast majority of end game is skins. Hence the nickname Fashion Wars 2.

The majority of skins added to the game come from the store, it is a bit of a shame especially seeing as a paid expansion came out and day 1 we’ve got new skins in the store.

And why do you want to END and UNLOCK the expansion content in just a weekend? Then what?

Couple of problems, I believe people wanted to play said content with their elite specialisation rather than be rewarded with one after, because as you stated “then what?”

As for the gating, if it was taken away, you feel there is only a weekends worth of content, so is that actually worth the price? So people may feel what they are looking at is content being stretch to fill rather than getting some substantial.

Of course this is just me taking a stab at what others seem to be saying, I don’t preorder games because it’s a ridiculous thing to do and I’m waiting for the price to drop to a price point I consider good value.

That’s more or less ruining your whole inital matter of the topic and/or your impression.

I was actually going to pretty much state the same opinion, was there any need to refer to those who have a differing opinion from your own as a whiner? What are those who share yours?
