Someone has been playing Black Desert lol

It will purely be based on ones opinions, but I’ve come to realise how valuable non-porting environments are.

Not only does it make the world feel larger, but I do feel a part of it. Unfortunately there is no open world here, nor is there a day night cycle for it, sometimes you can move from night to day in a second.

Complete removal of waypoints could of been done as a story telling narrative as the growth spread, something I suggested before the expansion and we saw some of them destroyed / temporarily disabled. Mounts could be added to this, but they won’t be. There is far too much work Anet would have to do to mount every race and they’ve tried desperately to stop having to make so many unique things for each race which may result in clipping.

I could only then suggest if it’s starting to become a deal breaker, there are alternatives which you could jump in and out of as you please.

GW2 has always been a game you play a bit then come back when something interesting happens, it just seems that right now there is quite a drought.

Btw, I am downloading D3 as I post here, lots of positive feedbacks on that game after the developers listened and acted on gameplay improvements.

I stopped playing GW2 for about two years and came back to play for about a month now. Yep, nothing has changed (enjoyment wise) only more nerfs, especially visual nerfs on skills :/

Yeah, it’s improved dramatically and Reaper of Souls just smashed it. Extremely impressed with Blizzard for managing to turn that game around after an epic failure at launch.

I was on the “let’s have mount!” train when the game was first released. Every other game has them, so why not GW2?

Well, after playing a good bit at release, and then off and on the last few years, I got off that train. The fast travel system with waypoints makes mounts completely unnecessary. Mounts would only serve as a way to flaunt gold/gems, and crowd important NPCs.

And more importantly another item to put in the cash shop and reskin countless times and colour variations.

Doesn’t seem worth it, there are already waypoints and it isn’t a fully open-world so any journey is bound to be short lived. There alternatives if you wish to get your mount fix.

I remember events like this with tables etc years ago, it even expanded to have the very best from NA and EU cross servers to battle it out. Although GvG guilds were often poorly received by their respective server “communities” and often interrupted and messed with.

Due to the lack of essentially anything regarding WvW like most have said, any real competition has left the game long ago. Although I hope you find at least someone to enjoy doing what you do and don’t encounter quite the same amount of hostility.

Jack of all trades, although excels at customisation hence “Fashion Wars 2”. Many aspects of the game are outperformed by alternatives, graphics, combat, raiding, performance / optimisation, etc.

It also comes down to personal preference, what is going to be best for you might not necessarily be best for someone else.

In my mind the only thing that can really be judged is WvW, because there are three zones with no overflows. But even then some WvW players could be playing Edge of the Mists because they don’t like the new borderlands.

Like most, can only speak from personal experience, but we wouldn’t be caught dead in EoTM as we never considered it WvW. Some might call that a “hardcore” attitude, personally having known hardcore guilds and GvG guilds, I’d say that was tame.

Those driving the WvW and GvG scene from years gone have left a long time ago and those who were more casual have gone now. Our current guild message…

You can look at NCSoft’s Q4 report to get a vague idea of sale numbers and game health. In short, there’s a pretty good bump in numbers for GW2 in Q4. It doesn’t give you the number of HoT copies sold, but people are estimating it between 250k to 600k copies sold.

Where did 600k come from? I thought the figures were 250-300k.

The F2P crowd didn’t value the full price game when it was available and look at the amount of content it had. What makes anyone think those players would now value HoT in comparison?

Those 2m didn’t want to play until it was free. That’s how much they value the game.

The thing is that GW2 had sold 4 millions copies before they made it F2P. 3 million of those 4, just on 2012-2013.
They should look after those 4 millions, cause i agree with you that a f2p player just want the game as long it is f2p (there are exceptionts of course, but residual ones).
I understand why anet made that move, they didnt had enough active players from those 4millions and open it to everyone for free could make some ot them to buy hot, which is better than nothing. But yep, that shoukd have been a last move thing, not their only move. they could not really expect people jump massively from f2p to b2p, right?

I believe it was 5m box sales, with 2m F2P being added to that (Think there is some PR Anet info graphic floating around). Of those, 1.5m. were monthly actives (historically).

Of those (1.5m + 2m.), around 250-300k bought the expansion. Do we have figures on the breakdown of F2P converts? That would make the figure for those who originally bought the game even smaller…

250k copies of HoT sold would be roughly 5% of players buying the expansion… which is just… terrible. I have to imagine NCSOFT would have shut the game down by now if those were the real numbers.

We must be missing something. The expansion would need at least a million copies sold to be successful. I remember WoW used to get 50-80% expansion copies sold, not sure what they are averaging these days, but it is certainly well above 5%.

Draenor sold 3.3m in 24hours.

More fun with numbers.

All numbers are rough, but ought to be good enough for discussion.

The Q4 2015 revenues were in excess of 37,000 Mn Korean Won. That’s 37,000,000,000. The Korean Won is currently converting at 1000 KW to $0.84. That means that GW2 revenue in dollars is actually ~$31,000,000.

But wait a minute. Recent Gem store sales have been bouncing around north of 20,000 and south of 23,000 MN KW per quarter. Say we set a generous (i.e, low) rough median for recent quarter sales via gem store of 21,000 Mn KW, or $17,600,000. Subtract that out and HoT sales are about 13,400,000. I’m comfortable with that assumption because the report cites stability in other GW 2 revenue.

Divide that $13.4M by the $50 minimal price tag and you get about 268,000 copies sold. Now, that’s not going to be exact. Some people bought the $75 and some the $100 bundle, but retail establishments paid the wholesale price. My guess is that retail sales trumped the more expensive bundles and actual sales numbers may be in excess of 300,000, but probably not by that much.

Very rough, but enough to evaluate the relative success of the product. For one thing, the number, whatever it actually is, is nowhere near (20+%) of the 1.5M monthly logins claimed in the recent Fortune article, and that’s not excluding any PFF adopters. I can certainly believe that the powers-that-be at NCSoft and ANet are not delighted.

Thanks for taking time to do this, I saw someone quote a figure of about 250k on another site and was basically too lazy to fact check it. Appreciate it.

No, three years because of the original release year of BnS and GW2. Is there even a NA PC release of the FF MMO or is it just Playstation? I honestly don’t know, I’ve always assume it was a PS3 game and I simply ignore MMOs on consoles. PSO was fun back in the day on Dreamcast but that was a long time ago.

Not sure about NA (I live in EU) but I’d assume NA was included in their western release on PC (it was also released on PS3 at the same time and now is also available on PS4). Last year I think it hit 5m subs.

I’ve seen on countless sites that GW2 in on the top mostp layed MMOs out there, mostly in second or third place.

I also noticed a lot of the controversy caused by the expansion — more related about its content, features, perfomance and price.

I’m on a weak laptop, but I manage to run GW2 with average 25-30 fps in all of Tyria. Sadly my fps are below 10 in HoT, but I manage to play it if I select the lowest graphical setup available.

I don’t really like the new maps. They’re really hard and I feel lost. I prefer to play by myself and when I bring a friend we just rush it. I also have died a lot.

There are way too many threads complaining about GW2: HoT. Many people have left because of the expansion and another handful of players avoid the expansion like the plague. I also heard that the HoT sales were dreadful. Is this true?

Regardless of what other people claim to be fact as how many people have left, only ANet know how many people have “quit” the game. And there is no way they’ll tell anyone. We do how ever know that they have had problems with player retention. That’s why we had the “New player experience” force on us for the greater good, just glad I have enough Tombs of Knowledge to level 3 toons to 80 if I ever choose to buy more slots.

Sold 5m world-wide.
1.5m monthly paid actives (“Historically”).
Doubled player base, becoming 3.1m players after going F2P (2m F2P accounts).

Yes that’s great and all, but this is not showing how many people stopped playing because of HoT.

Absolutely. As of now it’s our most current data, we will likely start to see something later this year regarding post-launch HoT.

Right now each individual can only give anecdotal evidence, pre-HoT I had an active WvW guild who would raid on a daily basis for 2-3 hours a night. Now I do not.

I was on a T1 server where there would be queues (our guild would sometimes have to wait anywhere up to 30mins to get into a borderland), particularly on reset where EB would be 60+. Post-HoT we could jump into any map instantly regardless of time.

Winning an award when no other game is good enough is nothing to celebrate. Where is GW2 competition? Still doesn’t mean that the current state of the game is healthy.

Healthier than the rest, good enough for the company that makes it to greenlight another expansion less than 3 months after the first one launches….

2 Kinds of players atm.

1. Complaining in forums about HoT sucks etc.
2.Playing and enjoying the game right now.

You’re missing one there sport: the players who simply left.

And to expand on that, games like this end up becoming the basis on which gamers develop relationships with other gamers. Those relationships provide a powerful reason to keep playing the game, even if you have begun to dislike and not enjoy it’s content.

Funnily enough a large proportion of our guild no longer play GW2 (some did buy the expansion some didn’t) but we all still hangout on our TS on a daily basis playing other games.

Well a better game means more people who will buy the game or stay with the game to buy expansions. Also the content we got for the price of the expansion was quite scarce. Comparing it to the core game that is. So the demands I’m asking aren’t too out of place if you take that into consideration.

They are out of place when you, and other people of your same train of thought, finally understand that Anet’s stated multiple times that all future LS releases, and expanded content will be locked behind HoT. If you dont get what that means, it means that ALL CONTENT from the drop of HoT to the release of the NEXT expansion, you bought for however much you paid for HoT.

and some of the stuff we used to have before HoT too.

Arena Net have not been playing to their strengths with Guild Wars 2, focusing on the elite crowd and e-sports has been a mistake. They should be nurturing the casual player and PvE side of the game as much as they can as that is where their bread and butter is.

Lets see what this year holds, hopefully they start making smart decisions when it comes to the direction of content development.

Actually I think what you’re seeing is compensation for how it’s been. It really has been too easy. Being casual doesn’t mean you want no challenge at all, at least for a lot of us.

But, I think that they heard complaints about how easy the game was for a long long time and they compensated and now that they’re hearing the other complaints they’ll compensate again. Originally they said they couldn’t bring gliding to core tyria, it would be too much work and suddenly it’s here.

There’s a new Shatterer fight with new achievements. I think the development cycle is very long, so it looks like the game has taken a new direction. I expect that the direction will shift back again, soon enough.

Gotta sell those gliders.
