Most likely for PvP balance.
Watching ESL Guardian looked pretty cool.
We saw 2 Rangers in ESL today, buffing them for raids would make them unstoppable in PvP we know they balance in PvP, so PvE Druid would take the knock.
I absolutely love how many people were praising Irenio and hailing him as being the saviour of the Ranger. No comments yet about this bullkitten and I just love how they didn’t tell us all of the changes until release. The Druid is kitten now.
Just didn’t want to go down the “I told you so” route, seen enough over the last 3 years.
Should it be because you do not believe in preordering, prefer adopting the “Wait and see” option, are not interested in HoT (yet ?) or straight up cannot afford it, is there any “Core”, or F2P players who will keep running around GW2 without the xpac ? And if yes, what will you be doing ?
Logging in for daily rewards and trying to do more than 30mins of WvW before logging off because the map on a T1 server has been empty this weekend.
I don’t preorder, definitely a let others waste their money and look for reviews kind of guy. I’ve taken all things into account and given the expansion a value I would be comfortable in paying, when it hits that price point I may buy if something else hasn’t released that is more appealing to me.

From what I’ve seen there is way less HoT content compared all all of the core game, yet you have to do just as much work.
From what I can tell, it’s sort of the point. If you have little content you need to stretch it to make it look like more than it is especially with the price tag, hence people calling it “grind”.
True beast master with bigger, stronger pets (ofc the rangers forgive a bit of personal damage potential to compensate), one ranger own autoattack skill, one ranger skill to actively control the pets that depends on the pet family (felines, birds…) and three ranger skills to actively control the pet that depend on the pet function (damage vs support vs control vs …). Elite allows to summon of pet as well, temporaly granting two pets at once.
My only worry is that we’d see the “If you want pets to be good / work, you should play Beast Master (or whatever name of said elite)”
I’d like a base fix to pets before the implementation of such an elite.
We have now our very own dev, so I’m positive, especially since HoT just launched and they need to keep track of the balance, that this thread will be read by the devs.
We saw Day 1 CAF nerf and Day 2 Pet nerf.
Tier one masteries take about 500k xp each.
Don’t all masteries take the same amount of xp?
I ask because their manifesto was based on no curve because they felt a fixed levelling journey was more fun.
Day 2, another nerf. Nice.
I wonder if that’s easier than keeping the name of a swapped pet…
I would guess EoTM.
Better get that wallet out again, yes I know you just bought the expansion.
You’ll find a skin in the cash shop.
and the lack of “end game” content
There is still a lack of endgame content.
Smart players are complaining because they can see through ArenaNet’s smoke screen and realize that HoT has very, VERY little content. All the grind required to unlock everything is just ArenaNet’s way of trying to artificially inflate the duration of the little content they have added to the game.
Some gullible players have been deceived and can’t tell the difference between grinding and content. I’m happy we have many smart players in this forum, though.
Unfortunately, many of the those who see through it also preordered.
Let the market dictate that cosmetic microtransactions are ok > tailor a games end game to cosmetic skins > put all skins in store > ??? > profit?
Really?
Come on…take your head out of the sand for a second.
We got TONS of new armor skins during the time when there was no xpac.
With HoT, we don’t need a billion skins because we got actual content.
Ever think that maybe we didn’t get skins because the devs were busy giving us:
– Entirely new zones
– New progression for every profession in the form of Elite Specializations
– An entirely new targetting/control system (action combat system)
– Massive guild halls
– Complete new crafting profession
– 3 new Legendaries
– New legendary crafting system that gives depth to the path of getting legendaries
– Gliding system with customizeable and dyable glider skins
– New WvW borderlands
– Entirely new sPvP game mode and map
– Custom PvP arenas for guild halls
– New levels of Fractals
– Motherkittening raidsI mean come on…consider for a moment what it takes to create all of that and then consider that there are at least 2 complete new armor skins (not including the new outfit that you got for free pre-release and the new outfit on the gemstore) and several new weapon skins on top of unique weapon skins and armor skin for Elite Specializations.
If this dissappoints you, don’t ever expect to be impressed by anything a developer will come out with.
You’d have a point if day 1 Anet didn’t drop skins in the cash shop, I mean people literally had just bought the game…
More strawman threads.
I just want them to start now, that way if they scrap something or run out of ideas we don’t leave ourselves in the situation we did with the half-finished-lacking-of-ideas-Druid.
you could ask if a druid could be so kind to keep you healed for a minute,
but yeah, like so many hero points Anet thought it’d be fun to stick it behind the mastery grind-wall with the intent that you’d do that hero point after getting the poison mastery.
At least 5minutes or no deal, Druids need that AF…
Not a problem, but I would issue a word of caution for the future, remember you don’t have to preorder anything. It’s in your interests not to, you have all the power.
Reviews, Twitch, Player / friend experiences, Youtube, etc. give us a tremendous amount of power to make informed decisions, I hope you fair better with your money and time in the future.
This happens every time, don’t give in to people complaining. People will complain about things they can not finish in a few hours and theu find many reason to justify how they don’t want play the game but want evwrything unlocked.
Anet please stand your ground, if you nerf it. The same people saying it took too long and grindy will leave in a week while yelling expansion is too easy and there is nothing to do.
The grind is there to cover lack of content, you’ve demonstrated that with your own argument. Now you understand why people are not happy.
(edited by Sicarius.4639)
If you’re big on PvP and WvW, you’ll be fine. No need to purchase anything.
If you’d like more PvE stuff, then you’ll need to purchase HoT to gain access to the new segment of the map.
Could always try not using a staff, heard it’s great for our new elite ability…
Very hard to be sympathetic went you’ve spent time telling people not to prepurchase, people could wait and see and not throw away their consumer power and money.
It’s unfortunate that people felt the need to prepurchase the thing. No matter how much you try to tell someone they have all the power, they’re willing to fork it over in an instant.
Had no one prepurchased and the vast majority of people had waited to purchase at all, we wouldn’t have the situation we currently do. Please keep that in my for the next expansion or purchase of any video game.
Seeing as the biggest complaints have been stretching the little content in the game into a grind, then I’d say Fallout 4 will have more content based on FO3.
My God! You Mean.. I Have To Play This Thing?

What Anet assumed was they could stretch what little they had out to make it look like a fully fledged Expansion. Locking and time gating a bunch of stuff to make it feel like it was more than it was.
Are there really only 9 new sets of armor?

Like I said before the release, there will be plenty more in the gem store guys, crack out those wallets again.
Well seeing as we are a wreck still, good job you don’t need a healer to do the hardest content in the game…
This is what a last minute elite specialisation looks like.
The biggest argument for the gating seems to be “its progression but once you unlock it its worht it.”
But after playing for a few hours, it seems most points are gated by mastery grinds. So once i grind my masteries to get my elite spec whats left?
Judging by what i see ill be done the hot maps and my masteries will have a serious dent in them. So i “progress” the entire new content to what? unlock my spec to farm whatever the new SW is and raid? Ok so im not raiding. So what, i grind for weeks finish the hot content to…..world boss train as a scrapper?
im not trying to be rude here but from what i see most of the content will be done by the time i even fully unlock the new spec, so what am i going to do once i have it?
if it is just playing base classes for all of hot and then world boss/silver wasting on new spec after its all consumed can someone please be honest so i can move on?
well so what the heck do you want to do? Becasue pve zones for you are grind, where well..are just new pve zone with new story to enjoy, you won’t raid…i guess you won’t wvw either? Don’t know what to tell you…
I take it he wants to play the PvE content as his specialisation not play it all then be rewarded with one once it’s done. I don’t understand why people feel it’s unreasonable to want to play the content with the class rather than get it once the content is done.
It’s a time gate.
Both PvP and WvW will be accessible to those without HoT.
You’ll also find if someone in your guild owns HoT they can unlock Halls and you’ll be able to use them, some features being restricted like Arenas.
Base professions are supposed to be seeing “balance” changes.
What, were you expecting it to be handed to you at the beginning? And if it was, wouldn’t you then proceed to not do anything in the new maps and complain there’s nothing to do?
No you’d do everything with this shiny new thing you’ve got.
Or play through most of it, earn the elite and then seeing as you’ve done the content have nothing.
3.5gb is rather small, odd.
Didn’t take long at all to download.
Thanks OP, well laid out and easy to read outline of Mesmer, as someone who’s thought about changing to a Mesmer for a while now (Ranger main 3 years) I found your outline of the spec a great read.

Hilarious. Nobody would be QQing if they were actually leveling another 10 levels while they did the new pve content like in EVERY OTHER mmo. At least Anet’s way lets us keep our gear.
Some of those gave us prelevelled characters for new professions.
Would it not be simpler to run windows 10 in parallel? Then just boot up to your windows 10 to play the game. Have never used a Mac for gaming, but with the size of windows 10 now seems a good fix for the crashing issue.
If we wanted to use windows, we’d have PCs. We didn’t buy GW2 until they sold a working mac version. And, it worked well for about a year, then they introduced a problem and have ignored it since. They still sell the game as Mac ready, though.
The thing is, we paid for a Mac ready game and saying to switch to windows is not a solution. They sold it to us as working on a Mac. I’m not asking for a miracle and for it to work as well as the windows version, but it is not even stable anymore and hasn’t been for a long, long time.
What I’d love to know is, are they going to fix it? It has been a really long time with zero communication.
It was only a suggestion as a possible solution to your problem given we cannot help you otherwise and after 3 years it’s not likely Anet will either.

Better to use bootcamp and run windows if have a copy of windows to use. That is problem for some people if they do not have copy of windows have to buy it. Also some people do not like to put windows on Mac for risk of extra problem or may not have enough drive space for partition. I use bootcamp windows 7 and it run much better and I only use to play GW2.
But big problem really is how bad arena net treat Mac beta client. It get worse and worse and no news of fix or anything. They do not even talk about client any more. On arena net page about Mac client talk about how staff can not wait to play on Mac client and how Mac client will run better with final version. Many promise on old Mac support forum how arena net hire Mac specialist and they all vanish. 3 year later beta client worse than ever.
Could not agree more. The Mac client is absolutely horrendous and if you’re seriously looking to spend a lot of time with this game I’d recommend looking at Bootcamp.
The performance upgrade is unbelievable and you won’t have to deal with the quite frankly disgusting excuse for a Mac Client Anet have put out.
Do yourself a favour and look into it, especially if you’re able to get access to windows. I personally move up from everything low and barely over 30fps to everything on medium at around 40fps before I got my new desktop PC.
Yes, it’s already cheaper, shop around you’ll find anywhere up to £10-12 off.
Got tired of them resetting so don’t bother.
Unless a prepurchase of DX11 was in the gemstore for 10,000gems with a target goal to unlock, this will never, ever, happen.
Anet must love you.

You can have a Monty Hall expansion that you can rush through and get all of the new stuff in a very short time, maybe days.
This option lets you complain about lack of content and no end game.
By that definition it would be a lack of content, artificially stretching it to make it seem longer or bigger is what is annoying people.
You can have an expansion that gives a LOT of content that will require weeks, or even months to get all of the new stuff.
This option lets you complain about “grind”.
No this would be actual content. I don’t hear many complaints about large games that are concise and give lots of things to do. Grinding would be doing the same stuff over and over, there are lots of ways to provide varied content on mass scale.
There are still a lot of old school gamers around that laugh at this generation of gamers when they use the word “grind”, because some of us actually played legitimate Korean grinders and know the origin of the term….and today’s players use the term to describe anything that requires playtime.
See above, if the content was the same throughout and just made artificially longer i.e. 10 bears kitten 10 deer kitten 15 bird beaks etc. This is exactly the same content with a slight variation, 400 quests like this would be grindy with level curves. Changing up said content and giving us meaningful quests that differ would not.
Stop complaining! You paid $50 or more for new content. Do you REALLY want to be able to complete it in a week? Seriously? How many of you complaining about the “grind” for Hero Points right now, would be asking for a refund if you blew through the $50 content in 3 days, complaining that you got ripped off?
Personally I haven’t paid a penny. It’s my power as a consumer to not buy a preorder as I gain nothing and they gain everything. I shall purchase when I want and at the price I see fit.
Those who have, well they’re thrown away the right to complain giving Anet money before they knew what they were getting or even how good it is.
So long as the journey of getting those points isn’t boring and repetitive and just an artificial time gate to stop us getting to the content, then I see no problem with 400 points. We shall see.
As for $50 for 3 days worth, well diluting an orange drink with water 1000000x has the value gone up any more than one 100% pure orange drink for $50? What you’ve demonstrated is that you’re happy to add grind to a game to artificially make it seem more valuable. I think people would want just more game.
For me, I want my $50 worth. I expect at least 3 months of solid new content and experiences for my money. What you complainers call “grind”, I call value.
Well you’re going to be happy regardless it seems, which is perfectly fine, but we don’t quite no whether or not this is solid content or diluting to make more of something of very little substance.
For those complaining about grind, there are PLENTY of “Pay to Win” games out there where you can just spend money and get all the best stuff instantly. Go find one, and you can spend lots of money and not have any “grind” at all.
They can indeed. I feel most people aggrieved actually still care about this game, they wouldn’t complain if they didn’t, but some feedback can be very good, hell if you wanted everyone who loved the game but had problems to just leave instead of trying to work it out, you’d be left in a very quiet game.
TL:DR Shut up about grind. If you want to spend $50 for a few days of new content, your expectations are ridiculous. Go play a Pay to Win, pay money for instant gratification and BIS gear.
I feel I’ve already addressed this previously.
The rest of us want $50+ worth of quality game time.
Just because you are excited to play your new profession, do you really want GW2 to be “Instant BIS, just add cash”?
I feel you’re still missing the point a bit, I’m sure if the 400 were accessed with an engaging PvE environment and not samey quests repetitively done just to stop the player from getting things too quickly, they’d be very happy.
This is my personal opinion looking from the outside in, like I said I haven’t purchased anything yet and I honestly cannot make a judgement on the content until I’ve seen a bit more, be it reviews and playthroughs, live streams, etc. That’s the power as a consumer that I have, we all do.

Just don’t buy it if you don’t value it at it’s current price, not to mention you can already get it cheaper than £35 by at least £10 already.
Wait for it to drop then re-evalute the price to your needs, this is your power as a consumer. They have no claim to your money and don’t go throwing away that power just because you can pre-order, they’re not running out of copies any time soon.
My personal valuation of the content I would use during HoT is £15, so I will wait until I can get it for that, at this rate I’m £7 off that mark.
And people say HoT doesn’t have anything good…
We need HoT for this change?
+1 that u have done this
-1 that it sounds like that u only did this because of the raids and not the complains over years
so u give the QQ community enough fuel to fire against u
Well it was essentially a buff no?
Pets taking no damage, changed to 95% damage reduction.
Not that it plays into the narrative that we only see changes because they benefit us before :P
Hey all,
…
We felt like minions were in a good place for PvP so we didn’t want to change them there for now. Thus, the interaction between players and minions in PvP combat will remain the same.
…That’s a joke right? While ranger pets are more or less a thing because they have to be, Ranger Nature Spirits, Guardian Sprit Weapons, and Necromancer Minons and even Elementalist Elementals are extinct as an entire class of utility skills in sPvP and WvW. Even Engineer turrets have largely been bred out of the competitive environment and you can’t expect gyros or Reaper’s shambling horrors to change that.
On purpose. Remember when turret engi was a thing? How “fun” that was? No one wants to play against A.I./mobs in PvP… they shouldn’t ever be meta in pvp.
Good job you can’t see a Ranger in ESL.
I don’t know where you got 60 from. I heard there would be only 2 armor sets, but with a light, medium, and heavy version of each along with some other skins like back pieces.
Could be adding Gem Store stuff.
Hello all,
I bought GW2 about a year or 2 ago and would be interested in getting HOT however I have a question. Is there a way to get GW2 at a lower price considering I paid for the full game previously?
The only reason I ask this is because if you buy you get access to the full game, now I already have access as I bought it ages ago so shouldn’t there be an option for the many people in my current situation?
Walshy
Yes, right now you can get it for more than £10 off at a number of outlets. I know at one point Anet had an official partner doing so.
