I’ll position myself, get my healing going, jungle spider F2, QZ+RF and then I will snipe them dead and terminate their aoe.
How are you finding things like retal? I run a glass build and run in a mid sized guild group. We look for similar sized fights around the map and I’m having trouble with taking a reasonable chunk of damage purely from retaliation. Any tips? Anything I’m overlooking that could help?
Zerk Ranger vs Retaliation, GG.
:( Yup, one barrage on a blob can take half my health.
The only issue I have is with queues, it’s not fun waiting for and hour and a half to get into any borderland.
Other than that it’s exactly as expected, those expected to win the season have recruited more and also bandwagoners who’ve previously been stomped have moved to gain rewards because they’re still tied to overall server performance (I’ve never seen so many bronze dolyak finishers coming from a T1 winning server before).
The game mode is all about coverage, might as well try and find something you enjoy inside the map i.e. sub 25 man guild battles. They’ve have always been fun imo, it’s a little harder to find that scale of fight since the tournament started admittedly, but it’s something we continue to seek out.
Just nice to know they’re actually looking at it after the stealth “fix”.
If this changes the GS to be the best meta weapon, I’ll be very happy.
The 1h attack is absolute #1 reason I hate playing a ranger in dungeons.
?? It’s a nerf to the class as a whole, nothing to do with GS. The biggest reason we were taken in dungeons is now completely obliterated, so no one will accept you whatever weapon you use.
Goodbye ranger. Fare thee well.
Oh the drama…lol
P.s. If this is something you honestly care about, open a ticket. The more tickets received, the more likely it is to be fixed.
It’s legit drama. If you don’t care about this nerf, you weren’t running FS and didn’t really care that much about fast dungeon runs, so of course you don’t see the massive nerf to the profession.
If your favorite profession in a video game becoming less popular for dungeons is “legit drama” to you, then we lead very different lives…
It’s just simple acknowledgement. Nothing’s a surprise to me any more. Done with ranger till it’s fixed. If it’s ever fixed. End of story.
Such a shame given that when anyone mentioned Rangers being below par everyone would tell you they’re good for PvE “at least”. Well, now we’ve lost that as well.
The class has just become completely pointless now and you’d be considered mad to bring one over ANY other class in the game, if you did you’d probably hurt your party.
We’ve been the butt of the joke in WvW for a very long time, poorly represented in sPvP and now PvE has completely gone out the window. It’s a shame the new advanced AI guy hasn’t been put to the task of fixing the day 1 broken pet system, that could of been a silver lining. Nevermind.
What tier is this Prysin? I’ve found it ridiculously difficult to keep any of our AI alive on EU T1 match ups. The blobs are in excess of 60 people the majority of the time.
I wouldn’t use the term not viable, but you’d ask the question, Why Ranger (purely WvW composition) over another class? Most of the times when hearing the words Ranger over TS it’s usually followed by some sort of joke / laugh.
I enjoy playing my Ranger and would love to play it more, but unfortunately as you’ve also stated, we need a bit of help with our skills for this particular area of the game. This leaves me playing a different class most of the time simply because it’s more useful to my group / team.
im a long time Desolation player, before that i was playing on Far Shiverpeaks (before the hackers took over). Things may have changed in the last 3-4 months that ive been in NA. however during season 2, ranger were (albeit by then WvW had become more toxic) still wanted for a few tasks.
Ah, a fellow Desolation Defender! Yes, I’d certainly agree with the toxic comment, I’ve even heard of commanders demanding no Rangers be a part of their raids. (Open PUG raids). Generally now though, I think waterfield (best in the game) is essentially our only meaningful task of late.
We shall see how the latest patch effects our overall kit we might find something that works in the future but this would just be the beginning.

We could just look at Anet’s vision for rangers…
“Rangers rely on a keen eye, a steady hand, and the power of nature itself. Unparalleled archers, rangers are capable of bringing down foes from a distance with their bows. With traps, nature spirits, and a stable of loyal pets at their command, rangers can adapt to any situation.”
Unfortunately none of this is really optimal for a dungeons, although you could argue spirits have their place.
Personally I’ll use any weapon that is most optimal for DPS, but I can understand why some maybe disgruntled by less than optimal performance of other weaponry especially when it’s in the description of the class.
More individual player rewards and less server based rewards would of helped to stop bandwagoning, think it might be too late to reset the balance now though.
They can balance the game though… there’s just too many servers for just a few players. Merge the first ranked server with the last and so on. Rename the servers to avoid childish complaints.
People will still flock to the top server, I’ve never seen so many bronze finishers from a T1 (Gold winning) server before.
We’ve unfortunately been the butt of the joke for a very long time in WvW. Only ones not to catch on are Anet
I’ve put 2 on each character, switching takes little to no time at all, especially if you have them parked in the cities near their given profession tables.
We were told the problem is too deeply rooted into the games meachnics as Pfanne has explained and therefore they aren’t going to bother. I believe they said they’d look to change “low hanging fruit” first.
Jumping onto my Ranger and taking him for a spin in WvW for the first time in about a year whilst simultaneously trying to avoid Mesmers like the plague!
Why not tie in nature spirits? Instead of run of the mill arrows, why not have something that was imbued with certain animal/nature “aspects”?
Anything that gave me my pets potential damage for even a limited time would be nice. Instead of it running around chasing things and hitting them once every 35mins I could actually use that damage to better effect. This wouldn’t effect the balance as it’s just giving you back what you’re already losing to other classes as your pet wanders around aimlessly.
Great idea, once we see the team compositions (class stacking) it will finally highlight how broken the current PvE meta is.
…take out all viable ranger builds even the ones only with potential, probably nerf ranger GS and S/D so melee ranger will be “balanced” on par with bow ranger just like how they “balance” ranger shortbow to make longbow “viable”
I would laugh, but the past has taught me that it’s highly likely we’ll get more nerfs lol
At least the patch notes will tell us F2 is now more responsive, again…
I like what i’ve read so far, but i’ll have to try it when it goes live to see if it’s good enough.
Charging gems for story content is a terrible idea though. That’s akin to a monthly subscription, but at least in a subscription mmo, you get all the content, instead of having it in piecemeal chunks. Just terrible.
Like expansion packs?
How does a new player get $60 worth of gold? That’s what I thought. Don’t be facetious.
Where do you even get the numbers from?
You are assuming that:
1: People would buy every single episode.
2: People would buy every single episode on their own.
3: ArenaNet won’t release a package at the end of a season at a reduced price. The numbers are freely available(calculate them based upon S1 # of chapters and 200 gem cost per chapter).
If you’re a new player, then yes, you’re going to purchase the full season. The only people purchasing individual episodes will be people who missed a couple or people who want the reward from them. ANet will likely release a packaged season, but don’t expect it to be much cheaper(see: their “sales” on gem store items).
So as a new player you’ll have a full expansion pack you could buy just starting the game, or you could play the original game first and use the gold saved to get it free. Either way, there will be an entire season of content available to you at a price.
Also this content will likely be tailored to you or a small group experience. Who pays for that? Who pays for the devs that sit down and rescale all this content so it works for you? Paying for it is perfectly acceptable and cold hard cash is only one of 3 options here.
Just going to point out that for the time it took people to complain about the price of the content, you could of logged into the game and got it for free.
ok, yup got that bit. However… What chapters are going to be available? For example the LA in ruins story,, dragon bash, marionette etc etc all had changes to the zones they occur in. Are we going to have instances where they are put back to how they were?
Are all rewards going to be available as if we were doing them for the first time(e.g toxic backpacks and the like)
Is this fair on new players who paid the same for content as we did, and now have to pay more to play the same content as we did?
Answers on a postcard..
All of the above happened in LS1, something they are looking at implementing in the future. Everyone is on a clean slate here for LS2, we all start at the same time and anyone who has or has played the game up until now will all have the same opportunity to access the content.
It specifically states you can either use the 15seconds in the 2weeks to login and claim that story free or if you somehow are unable you can unlock it afterwards for 200gems or convert the required gold to do so.
Any large open-world LS2 bosses could potentially come back as fractals for replay? Might be one way to get around it.
Maybe, but that would make them much less of large open-world bosses, seeing as Fractals have a limit of 5 players.
Yeah, maybe they can do something to recreate the battle in some way, the Marionette could have large groups of NPCs like we’ve seen during the Personal Story fighting dragons. When you get inside the portals, the other platforms again could consist of NPCs giving the impression of small scale battles in Phase 2.
I’ve never had a problem with temporary content as I’m always eager to sit down and play the game but I can understand this would be a huge feature for those who maybe under certain time constraints for weeks at a time.

Given the approach to WvW and it’s rewards, I’d suggest stacking on whatever server came top. There is little to incentivise you to do anything else and you’ll be rewarded with the shiny new weapons in abundance.
WvW Spring Tourney reward vendor will be released.
Hoping that the Chaos of Lyssa recipe gets an alternate way of acquisition.
Hoping for bug fixes of various kinds.
Nope. But Lyssa looks to have had it’s drop rate increased.
This would also require stow pet to actually work in making sure the pet stayed stowed.
I just took a look at the latest live stream video and I felt compelled to bump this thread. Take a look at this dev’s, uh… confusing build. I wish I could see the traits.
Edit: Oh dear, I’m watching the video and he’s basically the worst player I’ve ever seen in my life. This play is unacceptable.
can i get a link?
I can’t remember the exact point in which they state that they haven’t played their Ranger in such a long time, but it’s certainly in there if you wish to watch the whole thing.
In war goal is outnumber enemy and kick their kitten. If enemy outnumber you it just mean that you got outplayed. Your idea would just help some lame guilds wipe bigger zergs even if they really aren’t skilled enough to do it.
This is illogical.
60 to 20. 20 ppl really got outplayed.
That’s the logic of someone on a server with high enough population to walk every match-up.
Dooood. We 3v1’d you and you lost. Outplayed. How can u not have skyll lyke u$.
Didn’t realise we could do that with the outmanned buff, especially when you had BB on your little leash.

The discussion was about whether it was 250 badges OR 200 tickets, or 250 badges AND 200 tickets, but that page devik linked confirms it I suppose.
I dont even get why people ever thought it could be just 250badges…
Because that would mean you could get mistforged for either 300 tickets, or 100 tickets + 250 badges. Hmm, should i get 1 mistforged weapon, or get 3 at the cost of an extra 750 badges (which im drowning in)?
No one would ever buy mistforged directly if you could just upgrade Hero to Mistforged for 250 badges and no tokens.
But it would be a great incentive for those who actually stayed doing WvW rather than those who came to get achievements and a weapon for little to no effort!
I thought it was a great idea personally and I’m disappointed now if it turns out these changes have been made.
I found it rather amusing that certain servers had to resort to DDOSing our server TS whilst they simultaneously tried to take our waypoints on multiple maps.
I must say it was a highly effective method in doing so.
A number of exploits and hacks seem to be a running theme this season. Intentionally leaving out server names as they’ve been said enough lately and trying not to turn this into a QQ thread.
Personally I think Bloodlust is a good thing. When you’re on a server that cannot compete with the other servers numbers, gaining points through bloodlust can help even the playing field.
Usually the other bigger, blobby servers don’t take time to stomp because their sheer numbers will take you out before they have a chance. Taking time and promoting stomping with bloodlust can actually make a big difference.
f2 bug – was it really fixed recently?
Given the last few patches where they’ve stated it is fixed each time, apparently.
But I’ve found that it’s just as unreliable and pets can die between button press and cast sometimes waiting up to 6 seconds (counting out loud over TS to the amusement of my PvP party).
Well actually they do state in the video it’s been a very long time since they’ve played Ranger because they fell in love with the Mesmer and it’s skills.
Apparently they do not see the problem here that they’ve just demonstrated in their video.
ALL the time!
Ranger Pets
- Ranger pet special (F2) skills are now significantly more responsive.F2 is working now?
[Waiting for the next update to see this sentence again…]
Maybe if they keep saying it enough we will believe it lol
ANET defines rangers as being masters with a bow in a game where ranged combat is penalized. It is not a unique idea of GW2, but ranged damage tend to be lower than melee damage because of both ease of use and the relative safety ranged combat brings.
Which is highly unfortunate given the game has 10x more gap closers than it does gap creators for your ranged assault. Which makes for incredibly unbalanced combat between range and melee.
Try Warrior.
Match ups based on WvW population size is the only way to go, solves all problems.
“Variety of opponents” I can see this was well before this new Swiss system in which you end up slamming your face in SFR for the entire span of the season.
Oh well, we’re certainly punching above our weight when it comes to population to league standing that’s for sure. A 20-30 man guild group can jump between any borderland without queues during prime time. Not bad.
Disclaimer : I do not play a ranger…. yet.
But from what I see in tPVP + sPVP, rangers aren’t doing so good. Their damage seems very lackluster and doesn’t seem to make up for their survivability. This is a concern for me (ele/warrior player) because I really want to make a ranger for the sake of getting into PVP.
Could anyone else comment on this and tell me if I’m wrong/right?
Wrong question. You should rather ask what the ranger can do currently and how effective he is. And what the ranger can do better as other classes.
I don’t think for the entire time I’ve been playing this game I’ve ever seen anyone ask in chat or TS that we need a Ranger over ANY other class, ever.
Warriors are the best PvE and PvP class. Yet ArenaNet feels it’s apt to only shave the class, if they even nerf at all.
I don’t know how long a class needs to dominate before something is done. Maybe the year mark will be enough for the developers.
BWE 3 Rangers. Haven’t been the same since, it’s a bit of a running joke that “the next patch will see more Ranger nerfs”, which is funny, until they actually do in every subsequent patch. But don’t worry, Anet keep ending their vids with “Don’t worry, something cool is on the way for Rangers…”
With the recent change to pet health, I find my pet dead before this new response time has taken effect. I counted 5 seconds between pressing the button (of which I had previously pressed it) and the cast starting. By the time this happened he was dead.
Track the WvW population sizes. Match them up based on these numbers. If you get stomped then, you’re just not good enough. You had just as many people.
All the Spirits used to give boons pre-launch. Evasive Purity used to cleanse condis in a AoE. GS used to have a much larger damage coefficient. Signet of the Beastmaster used to be a minor trait.
Because Rangers were so strong in the betas, they were toned down quite a bit on release.
and every single patch after that.
I’d avoid anything T1. Playing on Deso has become a chore since we moved into T1, playing SFR can turn your game into a slideshow. The blobs are horrendous and even sniping crews consist of 20+.
Definitely recommend a silver server, great experience, lots of guild groups willing to fight in numbers under 25 and you won’t get the FPS spidey sense crash when you know the blob is just around the corner.
Think it’s been said plenty, coverage. When your sniper team is larger than the opponents main zerg you’re going to win, it has zero to do with skill.
