OMG…
If you dont believe me, try to do a quick google image search:
1st image on my google search for Reaper:

1st image on my google search for Parca:

AND FINALLY:
1st image on my google search for segador:

XDDD
IT IS NOT WELL TRANSLATED. You may like the name (even if it is beyond my comprehension :P), you may prefer it over Muerte or Parca (even if I dont understand why or how), but those, Parca and Muerte, are the real trasntlationts for Reaper in spanish, in this context.
Segador has a translation in english. As farmer, as harvester, look the image. But not as reaper. Would you call reaper to that guy harvesting in its field? Im sure not. you would call it a farmer, a harvester. reaper means another thing to you in english, right? the same happens in spanish.
As a bonus:
1st image on my google search for moissonneuse:

XDD
Ardid said that we are going to make fun of any name, which yeah, i actually agree XD, but you have to agree that in this case this is just derisive…
And im not debating if the translated names are better or sounds cooler or whatever. No, im just saying that they were not properly translated. Cause the proper translation is Parca or Muerte, as you can see from the images.
And anet is paying money to some guys to translate the stuff… unproperly. Just saying.
And this is just the funny stuff. There has been terrible mistakes on really important transtlationts, and the translation department had to apologise for the confussion created and bad translation in the past. Not sure if Anet Seattle is aware of this, because of the language barrier, but i believe they should know it…
(edited by Silicato.4603)
I don’t get this thread.
Isn’t it the same in english?
http://www.thefreedictionary.com/reaper
Or any other language?
obviously not.
After reading through the thread multiple times, I realized that it is about: there is no word for reaper in french or spanish. That’s … interesting.
We here in Hungary have “Kaszás” for it, which literally translates back to “Scyther”, which makes all the sense.
Actually in spanish there is a word (actually 2) for reaper (at least in this context): Muerte and Parca.
You have to understand that calling it “segador” in spanish is like calling it harvester or farmer in english.
It is like translating a metaphor into a literal thing that doesnt make sense.
Imagine that because i say that a tear is like a raindrop (metaphor), you translate “eye” as “cloud”…
I understand that an spirit who harvest souls is a metaphor of Death, but it is not the same as a farmer. thats why the metaphor is not “the farmer” in english, but “the reaper”. The farmer is just silly, as it is calling it “segador” in spanish.
I support that if a translation is not going to make sense or is going to be bad, it is better to not translate it.
We live in a global world and we are used to use words from another languages in our day by day convesationts. If Revenant, Wyvern and Reaper would have remain in english in the spanish version it would have been better, imo.
Another funny moment was when kashmeer was treated like a boy instead of a girl in the beach of southsun (when she was clearly a girl on that bikini), or when they put on gemshop that little white cat with a bow (and it was traslated first as if the cat had a ranger weapon, then bow, as is it had an special reverence, and finally bow as that little red accesory…).
Spanish translationts are always… funny, to say it in a polite way…
The FAQ of HoT and several blogs from anet had been lacking of a proper translation as well, creating confusion and misinterpretation…
At the end of the day someone who wants to be properly informed, has to read the stuff in english, cause the spanish translators… fail from time to time.
(edited by Silicato.4603)
Please accept a little poetry on your life: Words like “Moissonneuse” and “Segador” are metaphors.
Sure, but metaphors… of what? I answer the question: metaphors of the Reaper. metaphors of La Parca or La Muerte.
The thing is that in english there is no metaphor at all.
The toon is a clear reaper, with scythe and all. 0 metaphor.
Why there is a metaphor (or a bad translation, imo) in the other languages? Why it is not named La Muerte?
As i said, the good part of all this, is that because its name is so poorly translated, the community is having fun with it, calling it “secador” (hair Dryier), “cortacesped” (mower)… etc etc.
They dont need to solve it (it is not important), but anet should know that, because of translation issues, they failed to portray their original idea, and what was portrayed was just a funny name that people use in funny ways. It is not taked seriously.
In fact in spanish we have that issue with 3 new words from HoT:
Reaper = Segador (and called secador, cortacesped, etc)
Wyvern = Guiverno (And called “Guillermo” by the community)
Revenant = Retornado (Called “Revenío”, “Reventado”, “Trastornado”, etc)
It must be terrible that you came out with a name, a lore, a reason for that name, and then others mistreat that name with a poor translation, making a whole community to just have fun with it.
In spanish we have the same issue, it has been translated as “Segador” which in spanish means:
1. Said of a machine: Which its been used to harvest
2. Person who harvest.
3. Little aracnid, with long legs, rounded body and ovate, compressed and rough belly.
Fount: http://lema.rae.es/drae/?val=segador
As you can see, no definition of those 3 means what Reaper actually means in this context. You are using “Reaper” as “Death”, as that “spirit” who goes with an scythe and children use as costume in halloween.
That thing in spanish is “La Muerte” or “La Parca”. No “Segador”.
Spanish people is starting to call that specialization in a funny way as “secador” wich in english would mean “hair dryer”… spooky, right? :P
If you are considering taking actionts in french, please look into the spanish one as well, cause we have a similar issue, it has been poorly translated.
Of course it is not a life or death issue, but if you are trying to portray some “Fearness” and power into this specialization, its name in spanish its not working that purpose
Cheers.

Only time will tell on that, but while you’re hanging around the Consortium’s new HQ in LA, listen for a few small tidbits in the office gossip between employees hinting at their mysterious (and remote) leadership.
My bets are: Canach or Anise. Probabbly Anise, but i dont discard canach still working in consortium as a leader after a promotion… :P
I absolutely agree. Beautiful. Art department and people who made this map (the best in the game imo, and thats a lot to say, cause each map is beautiful) should win an award and win more money.
3-Relationship between Anet & Players base will not improve with time. & will feel like an old outdated couple with nothing in common but still living together. Unless transparency & better communication is established. I for see in time an eminent divorce.
I have already made my belongings, and right now im in a big fight where i am just shouting of frustration and she is just looking at me with contempt.
At the end i will leave and she will tell me from the window: " dont care, you stup___, i already have a new guy in my bed"
thats how i see my current “relationship” with anet

wise words webtoehobbit., +1
This is my problem:
Im going to pay for a product wich is a bundle and it is named GW2:HoT
That bundle gives you GW2+HoT at $50 in its standar edition
Specifically, HoT ($50) + GW2 ($0).
However, when me, a person who already has gw2, is going to pay the $50 of the bundle, i just discover that i wont recieve the bundle, i’ll just recieve HoT.
But im not paying just for HoT, im paying for gw2+HoT. The proof is that some people (newbies) are recieving that in exchange of its 50.
Why my 50 dollars dont deserve the gw2 gift?
Imaging you pay $50 for a BMW who comes with a ferrari for free. You pay the 50 bucks, and then the seller says to you: nah, im not going to give you the ferrari who comes for free, you just have the BMW….
So as a resume: a Vet wants a fair treatment, where if he is paying for something, he will recieve that something, not more, and definetly no less.
So if you are selling GW2+HoT for 50 bucks, give us exactly that when we pay anet.
I dont know who is leading this nonsense in the company, but it is indictable.
rapthorne, i see your defense about this as: they are allowed to try to give us an unfair deal, cause we had a great time with the last deal they made with us.
I completely disagree. I paid for GW2 3 years ago, i got what i paid for, and i enjoyed. This time it is not the same deal at all: They want me to pay for a bundle and i wont receive that bundle, just a part of it.
You get one key, this is not a bundle. There’s no way to separate the base game key with the HoT key, to use them on different accounts for example.
That one key does two things depending on what you, personally, choose to do with it. You are getting more options than a new player, but still have the option open to you to make use of the free base game inclusion on a new account.
The truth is that i have the best option of all and you are not pointing it: not buying.
lets see if they actually care (retoric comment, i know they won’t: i have GW2 and they already have show what they think about people like me, who has GW2). But it doesnt hurt anymore. after 4 days thinking about it, the one who doesnt care anymore is me.
rapthorne, i see your defense about this as: they are allowed to try to give us an unfair deal, cause we had a great time with the last deal they made with us.
I completely disagree. I paid for GW2 3 years ago, i got what i paid for, and i enjoyed. This time it is not the same deal at all: They want me to pay for a bundle and i wont receive that bundle, just a part of it.
Cause you are wrong the kraken, you are not able to buy just HoT for 50.
You only have the option of buyng a bundle of GW2+HoT for 50.
And most important: if you already have GW2, you dont receive the things that you are buying (HoT, and another copy of GW2). You just recieve HoT.
I cant explain it to you better, if you dont understand it, sorry.
It is simple:
- ¿Don’t you have GW2 yet? —--> you pay $50 for a bundle of GW2+HoT and you recieve GW2+HoT. Recieved what you bought. Nice deal.
- ¿Do you have GW2 already? —> you pay $50 for a bundle of GW2+HoT and you recieve just HoT. You dont receive what you bought. Wrong deal.
¿Where goes the GW2 copy that you are buying and you dont recieve if you already have one?
¿Nobody from sales and marketing department saw this coming?
If that is the case, ¿when they will be fired for not seeing it and when are you going to fix it?
¿Why no one from anet speaks about this?
I wonder, ¿is this indictable?
(edited by Silicato.4603)
The only one not talking about this is ANET, lol
People will buy if they want.
And people will buy where they want.
In any case ty for the tip
The question is, ¿do you guys really want us to buy in your store? I honestly doubt it cause i didnt see any change yet in your prices or deals… Changes that I did saw in a lot of retailers…
Just want to clarify since I saw this come up a couple of times in this thread and we haven’t actually released our full official patch notes for 6/23 yet….
Ascended Gear will be staying 5% better than Exotic Gear. Gear beyond the tiers we already have are not going to be added and our existing tiers won’t change, they won’t be our main end-game form of progression for your characters/account for all the reasons we’ve covered before – it isn’t what we think Gw2 is about.
Masteries is being added to PvE to help provide this system as our form of progression for PvE moving forward, and the WvW ability system exists for WvW and will be what we use to expand WvW in the future.
To more directly answer some of your point….We are adding a system that lets you change the stats for your ascended gear (weapons and armor) next Tuesday – which will cost a combination of 10 spirit shards, piece you don’t want anymore, 5 ectos, and an exotic insignia of the stats you want to convert to. Legendary Gear will remain the gear that can freely change stats any time.
-CJ
(Edited to clarify weapons and armor)
Finally a good news in this game. Ty Colin (and team). We appreciate it.
I hope you fix also the price of the expansion and if we buy a bundle of HoT+GW2, we actually recieve the bundle, and not just HoT depending on who we are.
I would love that if i actually care about the game, like i did since 3 days ago.
But now… i just pass.
They have lost my care, my trust, and even myslef.
OP should ask what the newbies want, cause they are going to be core of the future of this game.

I agree with the majority of the opinions here. Hot at $50 it is very expensive. the rest of optionts (deluxe and ultimate) are just a joke.
GW2 at 0 euros it is a joke too, specially for the ones already have it.
But those opinions are just subjective, each one will be able to think as they want about it, some people can find it very cheap, who knows.
However this cant be discussed:
Saying: “you need to have gw2 in order to been able to play HoT” was a lie, and a it is a felony, called “misleading advertising”, due that there is no other option to have HoT but with GW2 attached to it.
So the truth is that you dont need to have GW2 to play HoT, cause when you buy HoT you will be able to play both games.
Misleading advertising: FELONY,
I recommend all of the people who bought GW2 since HoT was announced to go to the consumer bureau and report it as a felony.
And if you think like me, that 50 bucks is expensive, please dont preorder, and wait for Anet to reconsider and low the price.
22 for me if its still available, please.

Where is promised challenging HOT content?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Silicato.4603
You say that scenario E cannot exist yet you accept that the game can be casual with few challenges. That’s what scenario E is, what players are asking for is for those “few challenges” to increase in number, but not overtake the casual part. Instead of 99.99% casual, 0.01% challenge, even a 90-10 would be fine.
I would sign for that 90-10. ¿But are you sure that is what Colin meant? Im not.
I don’t get why you are so afraid of the word “challenge”, it doesn’t mean it’s now impossible to do the content, it just won’t be easily afkable. If you want to play a game where you stand still afk pressing 1 and win rewards then go play farmville.
Again with the fear…
I repeat: it is not fear, it is dislike.
Do you want to know why i dislike the word (and the fact) “challenge”?
Cause i personally hate to stay long periods of time playing or learning how to play a game. I just dont want to dedicate my spare time to that.
These are not the 80s, we have fast lifes now and we can’t dedicate time to “children games” (cause yes, this is a +12, remember).
If i would want challenges, I’ll join NASA instead of playing GW2 or its expansions XD.
Playing this game i just look for entertainment, fun, and easyness. GW2 brings that to me, lets see if HoT is able to do it too, being “more challenging”…
And dont need to tell me “go play farmville”… thats lame.
I already play GW2 (who is easy enough for my taste) and I know that if HoT is a challenge, i can just not buy it.
I have said it a lot of times before in this thread, you dont need to “advice” me about it, i know i just have the option of not pay and play other things XD. Thats the beauty of the b2p.
If you dont want to play, you dont buy. Simple and easy.
Some people (specially those who bought GW2 thinking it was like GW1) should have known that they had that option XD.
And if HoT is not a challenge at launch or after a few months, i’ll remember you maddoctor, because that option (not buying and going to play anything else) is also yours, like anyone.

I’d say Giganticus Lupicus, Liadri, and some other dungeon bosses like some Aetherpath bosses are still challenging.
From all that “BIG” (sarcastic) list, only Lupicus was in the core gw2 game….
The rest where updates (like my scenario D). And lupicus was nerfed (so… scenario B ). Liadri is a temporal content, so you cant play it actually… i dont know how can you caunt on her.
HoT wont have difficult content, and you know it. Not now, not ever, they dont want to make its game difficult (and i see it as a wise move, they will win more money that way, at least mine )
If you had the chance to test the last pve beta, you know that everything, every single event or jump was easy.
What it may demand (and you rpobably noticed too if you played beta) is time. Just that. They want us to do long events, or stay X time before and event to organize, take an ip, etc.
If that is the challenge that you are looking for, then congrats, you’ll probably will get it with HoT. But i bet that you will get sick of that gameplay after a month just like everyone.
And Scenario E doesn exist, you cant have a core game both challenging and casual. Either the game is casual with hints or a few stuff of challenge (like GW2) or the game is challenging with a few stuff or casual activities. With time you can change that core game play, but at start only can be casual or challenging.
Colyn was talking about that core game, he said they want it to make it more challenging… ¿reality, or pure marketing? Time will tell, and money and user logs in will decide.

Sorry Anet stated itself that PvE people are the one that come and go, PvP people are those that stick with the game no matter what. The sad part is many people would want to play PvE just because they think, and ME also, that Arena Net is capable of making interesting challenging content that casual people would enjoy also, and we all know that people that are casual would step up! We don’t need to make this game full casual! This is lame and bad excuse! If you want to stay casual you fear of some kind of challenge that could make you better, you fear to feel accomplished and you know it!
It is not fear it is a matter of like or not. I dont like to spend 2 hours doing a chain event, call me crazy XD.
If you like it ok, it will be your game, not mine.
But your are right, there is a hint of fear in all this:
The actual fear comes in the fact of not knowing if you are going to pay for something that you are not going to like… thats the fear.
look, i just see 4 possible scenarios about all this:
Scenario A: HoT will be challenging at the start, and will remain that way. People who wants that will buy it, people like me who doesnt want that wont buy it. Not at lunch, not ever. The bad part is that after a few months where all players skills have improved, that challenging content will transform into casual content for the people who bought it and played.
Scenario B: Hot will be challenging at the start, and after a few months will be nerfed. Challenge-lovers will buy it, and after a few months (due to the nerfing or due to the improve in their skills), the game will be casual for them. People like me won’t buy the game at the start but we will jump in after nerfing, probabbly as a cheaper price that at launch.
Scenario C: Even after being announced as challenging, HoT will be casual, and will remain that way. Challenge lovers will buy it at launch, but hey will feel scammed. People like me will buy it not on launch day, but probably after a few days or weeks, when we knew the games is actually what we want. So we will pay the higher price too.
Scenario D: Even after being announced as challenging, HoT will be casual at launch. With updates and months, anet will bring more challenge into the table, little by little. Like GW2. Challenge lovers will buy it at launch, and feel scammed, but after a few months and updates they will be able to enjoy the parts of game they like. People like me will buy the game after a few days or weeks at launch price and we will enjoy the game or the parts we like.
Imo, the best scenario for anet is D – high price for everyone and all happy with the pass of time.
The best scenario for me personally would be C or D.
The challenge lovers are condemned to suffer, no matter what, cause is in their nature to transform the challenging into casual and to always want more challenge, but A or D are their best optionts.
But what i expect to happen is the scenario B. Even worst, cause i dont expect to actually be challenging enough at start for challenge lovers, so they will feel scammed too.
And you said it Firelysm, some people will buy HoT only if its challenging or they believe it is challenging. Thats why they will always advertise the game with the “challenge” word on it. To try to sell to that people. But the scenarios are going to be just one of those 4. and no matter what, the challenge lovers will never end satisfied XD.
Lets see. In a few days is the E3 and i expect big announcements regarding HoT on it.

Sorry, you have more then enough “easy” content in tyria, i think Expansion HoT should be hardcore and people coming there should be ready for wild wipe. Where casual people have to move out of comfort zone and actually dodge sometimes, it’s a SHAME how easy events are… you guys are insulting me/us players with this low artificial intelligence of bosses. :S
I’m not saying you should do events long and insanely hight HP so we have ot hit it 3 years before it’s dead. I just want mechanics and people to actually work together to achieve something… i’m tired of “scatterer boss events” where ppl stack on the side and just press 11111. Please aNet be more respectful and give us Coloque Queen from Dry top with better mechanics… People who don’t dodge should get 60-100% hp dmg..
Dont need to say sorry ^^
I mean, im not the one who lose if i dont have a game that i dont want XD.
In fact they will lose me as consumer, nothing else.
I just dont see the logic in your reasoning.
GW2 is easy and we bought it, and we play it.
Why making a challenging expansion is going to atract people who bought and play Gw2? if its going to be a different kind of game!
I agree with you that the game, gw2, is easy. And thats why it is a sucess, imo.
And as i say, i hope that im the only one who thinks this way, and people jump into challenging content as crazy. But i already did my prediction: it won’t work. And either they won’t sell as expected or they will have to nerf it and make casual-changes in the future.
And let me finish saying that what i have seen so far from HoT is not difficult. Im not talking about that kind of challenge. What i saw is time consuming events, event chain of 2 hours. Anticasual play. Thats what im talking about.
Compare the cow events in gw2, with the 1 hour chain event in DT, with the 2 hours chain event in east side of Verdant brink. Thats the progression that im watching, and i dont like it at all. All events are easy, but each time are less and less casual cause of the time required to complete them and the number of people needed to complait them.
they are cool, i play in DT and SW. But just as the exception, not as the norm. the game should not be a bunch of 2 hour events. And if it is, no problem, i just have to not buy it.

It is not just a matter of what HoT should have or what should have not.
It is a matter of if i’ll pay money for a kind of content or if I wont.So if HoT has only a small part of it as “challenging” content and the rest of the expansion is not will you buy it?
I would.
I would buy it if the game is like GW2 (in its core and philosophy, i mean).
Most of the events are easy, fast, friendly and casual and then you have a few things more challenging, either on mechanics or in time consuming.
SW & DT are examples in my opinion of challenging content (mainly because of time consuming and players numbers, not because dificulty) in GW2.
And i would want that to be the exception, the “small part of challenging content” of HoT. Not its core.
So yes, i dont reject challenging content in small dosis, as an extra to the game. I just dont want a challenging game.
I mean, dont want it and I wont have it, cause i wont buy that kind of game XD.

The real point here and what makes the discussion important is that we can buy HoT or we can’t buy it… thats the key.
It is not just a matter of what HoT should have or what should have not.
It is a matter of if i’ll pay money for a kind of content or if I wont.
To me there is no dilema, actually, i have it pretty clear:
If HoT is not casual (like events of 2 hours, content difficult, or another similar situationts that stole time from me or that will anoy me in any way) i wont pay for it, and i wont play it. Simple and clear. It is a game and im not going to lose time and money on games that i dont like to play.
However, hopefully im the only one who has it that clear, otherwise they can make a huge mistake if they dont sell enough copies for making it “challenging”.
Said that, I guess some people will buy it either way, but then the dilema will come after a few days/weeks: "should i play for 2 hours to do this event? should i stay days trying to kill this boss? do i have anything else to do in the game rather than this kind of “challenging” content? can i play casual?"
You know what i mean, right?
It is not like i bought a casual game where they updated it with an event of 2 hours (wich i like, i still can play casual and people who likes challenging stuff can do it, including myself if im on the mood).
No, in this case it may be that im buying a game with events of 2 hours as core mechanic. It is veeery different. I would be buying a challenging game (at least a challenging game in “time” requirements) instead of a casual one.
GW2 is a casual game where anet first made ir more casual and then they added in its last months a few more strong bosses and a couple of maps with cycle events of 1 hour or 1.5 hours (im talking about tripple wurm, SW and DT)…
Is that what we can expect? is HoT a SW/DT 2.0? events cycles or event chains of 2 hours, 3hours, 4 hours…?
the real question is: is HoT actually Gw2? Or it is another kind of game, more challenging, for another kind of consumer, that i should not buy cause I will only pay for a casual game like GW2?
Im open (and keen) for challenging content. But as updates, as part of game progression in the future, like Gw2 is and has. But im not open for challenging content as the game’s core.
I dont want HoT to be challenging like Colin said and as i saw in last beta.
And like i said at the beggining, im the one deciding if i’ll buy it or not, if i’ll pay for it or not. So i guess it is not my problem, actually. It wont be the first neither the last videogame company who makes a game that i wont buy cause i dont like its mechanics or way of play (or price).
Some person said a few posts before that why people doesnt want raids, if they dont have to play it if they dont want to… like if people was egoist for not letting challenge lovers to have their raids…
The answer is clear: cause im going to pay for the game and its content.
Call me crazy, but im not going to pay for content i dont want to play.
I want to play a casual game, and i’ll pay for it. Then if they want to introduce challenging content as free, ok, i could still play casual.
But im not going to pay for challenging content, sorry. And if you like challenging, you should not pay for casual content that will bore you, i guess.
If Hot is challenging, ok. I just hope it will be as challenging as people who actually pay for that kind of content want it to be so that Anet scores a point.
Sadly, my prediction is that it wont be casual neither challenging. They will still call it challenging (cause marketing reasons) but it wont be 100% challenging, it just will be long and time consuming (aka, not casual either).
I encourage anet to actually define what is HoT and its player base. I know they wont do it (cause as much criptic and vague they are on their messages, better options for consumers of all kinds to think “oh yeah, it is my kind of game”, and buy HoT).
But some people like me, wont buy it until it is clear: And even farther, after it is clear that HoT it is the kind of game we want.

I will add we want our open world content experience to be more challenging as well just in general. Though the AI was better in our CBT experience – we think we still have a lot of work to do to get our creatures and encounters even at the start of Verdant Brink up to where we want them to be. Our game has great combat, our creatures and encounters should challenge and require you to use that combat system.
Ok, but just please remember that your player base is mainly casual and we want and like cooperative/solo easy and happy play.
Im sure you in Anet knows it (proof of that is all the nerfing in the last 3 years in difficulty, dailies and logging rewards… etc)
I feel someone has to say something about it cause forums are the playground for people who want changes, who doesnt like the game too much.
But what about the ones who actually like it just as it is?
I understand that you guys want to make it a little harder so people who demands that (a challenging game) come back to the game, but don’t go too far on that direction or you’ll may loose everyone (cause you know, haters are gonna hate, and lovers can hate too)
Just saying.
I personally dont like games where you need hours and days to finish one piece of content or where you need to improve your skills and try/fail, try/fail and try/fail.
I work, i have a life, a family and i don’t have too much time to spend on “challenging content” in a game.
But it is actually beyond that, it is not that i just cant play that way, it is that i dont want to XD. Some people just like easy game play. And im sure you anet has figures and numbers and you know what kind of players do you have and what they actually like.
If HoT is going to follow that “challenging” path (even if is not challenging enough, wich i suspect) I may reconsider buying it. The good thing about buying and paying for an expansion is that the ball is in the consumer roof at this point. We can decide what kind of game we want to buy or not so, if you want to give us difficult content… it is good to know
Before, I didnt actually expect HoT to be challenging or difficult, I took all this words just as a marketing strategy to bring more people into the game. The more the marrier, and i agree.
But after seeing that beta cycle, where day/night took 2 hours (2 hours of gameplay for just one event chain it is no casual at all, even when the events were easy. The chain events for SW and DT are already long enough in my opinion, so imagine 2 hours…)… and now reading this words from Colin… im starting to think that they actually have decided to make the game less casual and more challenging.
Of course im sure it will never be as challenging as people who likes challenging games demand, but it may be enough challeging (specially in “time terms”) for the casual playerbase.
Time will tell i guess.
Hopefully the game stay casual and people who enjoy GW2 can enjoy (and buy ) HoT.
If not, i just hope that you at least reach the standars of what challenging people demands, otherwise you may disappoint everyone.

Where is promised challenging HOT content?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Silicato.4603
I think challenging content was the wyvern and similar bosses.
@syviren, the first closed beta in March was the same, in EU was the night from tuesday to wednesday at 20:00ish and at 1:00ish, for 2 hours each.
This time they followed the same scheme, with the adittion of one round more at 4:00ish
I expected to be on tuesday night, like the last one.
However i agree with Zackie, the best would be to have 24 hours so any one could test it at their own pace and time. But like has been said: maybe what they want to test is if a determined time, the serveres can handle a determined number of people. So it is understandable that they put specific hours.
pointless why? some people will have to pay $ in order to access beta, buyng a “preorder” (so they’ll pay in adavance without even played the beta) and you got it for free and because of you effort.
Maybe they play the beta and say “oh man, i dont like it and i already payed for it!!” while you would say “Thank god i played this before paying cause i dont like it”
The diference between you and them is that they have to pay $ to access beta and you dont. I dont think it is a “pointless” fact.
In the amazon’s spanish store it is listed as 44,99€.
Ussually, the prize in europe is the same as in USA no matter the $/€ change (I know, another scam for europeans consumers…) so, if we believe amazon numbers (which perhaps, we shouldnt do), you can expect $45 as the prize.
But i bet anet will show the final and official figure on mid June, on E3.
So just wait for it a little longer, it is coming.
+1 to OP from me
I guess this thing is on trend after other games debates with p2w… but no, GW2 is not a p2w, nothing else to add.
In fact, last beta alts were deleted by anet a few days ago. All they got (included their own body :P) were erased
I would expect the same for future beta alts.
Well hmm, as I reread it through lawyer-vision, I could see them saying you must find a unique Portal for each closed test.
Either way is fine by me, I enjoyed my time in SW and liked having a targeted goal for gameplay.
The spanish version says this:
“no olvidéis que los eventos de beta cerrada PvE de Heart of Thorns están abiertos a los jugadores que hayan encontrado un portal al Corazón de Maguuma en el juego o que hayan sido seleccionados entre los suscriptores del boletín de Guild Wars 2.
I understand it in the way you did before:
They say “los eventos” (the events, plural) and then “hayan encontrado un portal al Corazón de Maguuma” (have found a portal to the Heart of Maguuma), wich i believe it is the same can be found right now.
What i believe is that each time a new PVE beta aproach, probably more Portals will be accesible, so more people can join into each beta.
But if you got one already, that will be your tiket for all betas.
At least that is what i want to believe! XD
Hopefully the portal makes you able to participate in all pve betas. I cross my fingers XD
On the WvW side, this quote makes me realize that i wont have an invitation for the first stress test XD, cause I play on wvw in a very casual mode, and from time to time:
This initial test will feature some of the most active WvW players in Guild Wars 2.
However Desert Borderlands looks awesome, i’ll envy all those guys who got their deserved spot on the stress test XD. Maybe when they open up a little bit more the number of testers…

This was awesome. GZ!
why can we not have capes?
Cause they are ugly, 0 movement, they look like a table on your back, and most important, they would hide your armor.
But dont get me wrong, i accept they introduce capes into the game. i just wont use them or pay for them, dont like them, dont want them XD
my actual main is a sylvari, so a clear “yes” for me
I’ll be there for pvp beta! Ty for making it public and 24 hours long!
I played a ranger and everything was similar to the actual ranger (at least i didnt notice any change).
I made a deep analisis of what i experienced yesterday on the spanish forums, but let me say here that i really had fun with the 2 hours test and the game worked pretty well on my pc.
The masteries are going to be a huge thing (loved the glide) and the map, even being small, you could feel that “deep” they talked about so many times in the past. I just wonder how that will be in bigger enviroments.
Wyvern was like Behemoth, imo. But maybe is what they said: the difficulty was turning down for the stress test.
The adventure was great, really addictive where you try to improve your rate and win to your friends.
Nice start, as a conclussion. Im really looking forward for more new content and more testing!
35 for me if its possible!: Sauce de Cazorla
My answer: no. I don’t think anet is hiding anything else beyond what they already featured on PAX South.
In addition HoT is probbably going to be launched on July-September 2015. There is no time for more. What it is, is what it is.
That is of course assuming that friends and family:
1: Don’t already have access to the alpha.
2: Will outright lie about the game if they find it bad.I don’t know about you, but when I ask for feedback from friends and family they usually don’t lie about what I am doing bad.
I may have express myself wrong. When i said family and friend, in this case actually wanted to say: people who i won a good review from, or people that have a lot of influence in the internet community and can help me sell this for free (or little investment).
Imo all that Brighton and previous events were an investment for anet, in order to obtain a bunch of “influencial friends” on their pocket. it is so much cheaper and probabbly most effective than using the ussual marketign campaigns so i agree is a good idea.
And it is important to know the difference between kittensual friend and this kind of friend.
This kind of freind gets new subscribers on their channels if they talk about HoT. And the better they talk about HoT, the more chance they’ll got to continue talking about it (cause they’ll be invited into events, they’ll have exlusives for their channels and stuff to show or talk about).
It is a win-win for both sides: You talk good of me, ill give you more stuff to talk. and the more you talk, more subscribers you’ll get. And all almost for free.
That is what i would do: put in the betas to my friends, those friends who has a professional relationship with me and is in the best ineterest for both of us to talk good about the beta. And thats why i dont expect to be chosen, or the 90% of the community.
But again, this is what i would do if i were there. Who knows what they will actually do and how they manage to deal with the lack of NDA of this betas. I guess only time will tell.
But how can they control the opinion of people if there is no NDA?
Selecting specific betatesters.
An example:
Imaging that you do a product and you want to sell it. You need reviews, to make it popular, and you need good reviews, to make it desireble.
And you have this pool to make the job of reviewing:
- a lot of persons who doesnt know you or your product and that in addition nobody knows about them and have 0 influence on others
- your parents & family
- your friends (some of them veeeery influencial, with a lot of followers)
- your competency, who hates you, and are very influencial
- your enemies
You decide to not have NDA (cause the goal was to sell the product, it is no time for secrets, but for good reviews)
So who will you select? Or better: who you’ll never select?
When you choose your friends and your family you dont have to fear about bad reviews, even if there is NDA. And when you choose influential people, you’ll sell better that good reviews.
Thats why i expect this phase of betas is for people diferent than the most of us: we are just players, we are not influencial and our opinion is not bought yet by friendship.
In my opinion, is more a free marketing campaign than an actual betatesting. If they actually want to be tested, it would have an NDA.
If it was a marketing campaign, why do it with such a small number (at first) though?
Cause it is easier to manage and control the opinion of 20 than 200. And it is not the same the opinion of a person with 2 followers that the opinion with 20.000 followers. Ones is more influential than the other.
In any case We well see if i am right or not when we knew who are the chosen ones and what kind of public internet coverage (or how i like to call it: marketing) they do.
My guess is the beta is more about getting general player feedback than bug hunting
In my opinion, is more a free marketing campaign than an actual betatesting. If they actually want to be tested, it would have an NDA.
And dont get me wrong, probably they already did their alphatesting, where they already determined what works and what doesnt.
I guess that the game currently is almost done, and they are in a phase where they just want promotion, and fixing last bugs. But I dont expect big changes as result of betatesting work.
I dont expect to be chosen.
I guess that due the lack of NDA, they want the testers to actually talk and explain to the rest of the community what they are experiencing. And because of that, the tipical youtubers (aurora, bog, WP, matt vissual, angry joe, jebro…) are the ones i believe are ging to be chosen. In addition anet has treat those players specially well in the past (giving them exclusives for their channels, inviting them to their events, etc) so with them they have good reviews assured.
I guess that just players like most of us are out of the contest. But we’ll see.
I’m thinking 30-40. But i dont consider it a fair price. It should be free (due i consider it will be less or equal amount of content as a LS. But i know, they said already that is not free, so…) or 10-20, as much.
It just dont seem to be enough content to be an “expansion”, with an expansion price.
As a result if im right and it will cost 30-40, i may not buy it until it gets on 50% sale or so. If is more than that i’ll probabbly will be one of the ones leaving the train for good.
