Anet, you guys know how much did you sold, and how good or bad is your expansion working (and we will know in a week or so)
The only thing I, as a player, can add to your numbers is that HoT is not as casual oriented as Gw2 was. In fact i dont belive HoT is casual oriented at all.

Extract your own conclussions and see if the new model works or not. And if it works as intended or it doesnt, ask yourself why, please. And read this thread to know the answers.

Love.

We need to look into the real numbers (that ncsoft will release soon i guess), but to me, when someone needs to launch a new product just right after the last one, only means 2 things : you have a lot of money and you can invest on whatever, whenever, or you didnt win too much money with that last product and you need a new one that generates income.

The answer: when we see the real numbers of sells and money generated.

Silicato.4603

In my opinion, what fails is the duration. The idea is cool, a map that progress, the events are fun imo, etc. But it takes too long to comlete the meta of each map.

Pretending to have casual people in the same map playing for 2 hours to complete a meta event is just wrong. In this game at least. we are not dedicated players, we have jobs, families, other things to do. you play 1 hour or 2 and you leave. and you cant spent those 2 hours on DS or AB doing the meta. Is just wrong.

The metas (or raids, or fractals, or dungeongs, or whatever content they bring to us), should be of 30 min at maximum.

Raids, dungeons and fractals are ok on that department (for raids you need skill, but once you get it, the wing can be made pretty fast). But meta events are terribly wrong, cuase they took too long.
That foments either people leeching, or worst: people just not playing it.

I dont know who will cry harder, tbh… and it is a little sad when you look at it that way.

If HoT has not sold properly, or people is leaving after buying it, some people may lose their job, like in any company when they have economic issues, lack of clear direction (is this game casual or hardcore?, cause playing for 2 hours to do the events of a map is not my definition of casual gameplay… raids are no casual either…) or have problems conquering their own public.

If you compare that with failing a boss in a game… i guess some tears are more salty than others, right?…

There was a time GW2 was Casual Friendly, and it still is.

I don’t see how having a little bit of hard core content = casual unfriendly.

When that “little bit of hardcore content” gives exclusive things, stop being casual firendly. Only elite and hardocre players will have those items.

I honestly hope that HoT have bad sells, so they rethink about that dilema between casuals and hardcores, and they have to took a side and make a game in future iterationts either for casuals or for hardcores, so we all (casuals and hardcores) can move on to the kind of games we like, or stay.

We’ll know on January/February when sells from 4Q will be public.

Important: Getting started with "HoT" story

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Silicato.4603

Mathew, I have a question regarding terminology.

How can we call the HoT’s main story? im talking specially for wiki purposes or day by day interaction.

Is this Living World Season 3? will be a LS4 later on?
It is HoT’s Personal story, and then it will be a LS3 later on?
Raids have story, and it comes “after” this Hot’s main story. Are raids LS4? or LS3? or nothing related to it?
It is confusing, I feel like Living World story has no space if they are not part of this “personal story” or raids. and LS2 was a really good one, in terms of continuty. I thought that the future would be a LS3, then a LS4, etc… but with all this i am just confused.

Can you solve this doubt, please?

Druid and Healing Power Scaling

Silicato.4603

If you want to focus on being the top offense then you probably shouldn’t be selecting the Druid specialization.

This scares me. Raids are meant to be for top players, right?
then why anybody is going to take a druid? If there are other clasess that will kill better… there is no point for taking a druid.

That he is the best healer? Oh nice. Just evade and res, like a top player would do. Dont need “the best healer” in a party.
And specially in pvp.

What a ranger needs in the game and in the community it is to be needed, to be wanted. I would love to see people in guilds or lfg asking for rangers and druids instead of asking them not to join…
Rangers are not bad per se, but any class is better than them in any espectre thats why meta players avoid them.

With druid they will be “The top healer” in a party. And that is not needed or wanted, sorry.

You should to give more damage to the druid and make them desirable for meta parties.

Remember that Gw2 has been bought for 5 million persons on those 3 years. Is that the current player base? No way, more like 1-2million of that 5 millions are the current player base.

So this anets move is not a punishment to the “current” player base, but a consequence of the punishment that those 4-3millions made to anet leaving the game and not playing.

The way that i see it, anet is doing the impossible to put people on its game. Cause the ones they had, left the game a long time ago. You cant punish someone is already gone. So there is no punishment to the “veteran” player base. there are very few veteran players actually playing, in comparison with people who has the game and could play.
The veterans (specially the ones in love with GW1 and in hate with GW2) punished anet leaving, and not viceversa.

And about that you have to pay for an expansion, after you paid for the core game, thats the normal way.

Everyone should ask in this day and age, where server bandwidth is not very expensive, what are you getting for your money? There are certainly games where you get a good amount of stuff for your money. We just want folks to know there’s a game out there where you don’t have to pay for any of that.

besides these interviews when the game just released they were also promising that you will never have to pay ever again. If there will ever be expansions they will come for free. That kind of was their selling point.

They never said expansions would be free, They said they wouldent have expansion something they then changed since community wanted it.

I know, but some people like mirta understood, what they wanted to understand. That whats marketing does.

You can sell a house saying:

  • I sell a house! (no marketing)
  • I sell a beautifull house! (marketing used, and as you can see, beautifull can means whatever each person understand as “beautifull”)
  • I sell a beautifull house, but worst that your actual house! (antimarketing used)

This is seriously disappointing. I’ve bought the game long ago for the full price and now to get the expansion, I have to pay again the full price – not just the expansion. 45 euros for an expansion is way too much for any game.

That is subjective. “Cheap” or “expensive” is something that only each person can decide for themselfs.
What is expensive to you, it is cheap for another.

And about that you have to pay for an expansion, after you paid for the core game, thats the normal way.

I respect that it is expensive to you, but the thing about buying the core and buying the expansion is something normal.
My advice to you is wait 3 years (or whatever) till next expansion, so you can buy the next one, with HoT for free.

And if you want total free-deal: never buy.

PS: of course think about what you’ll miss before taking my advice ^^, hour and hours of amazing gameplay.

Yesterday was bad. What i feel now, and i didnt felt before is like speed ups, the game stops, or people go to walls and suddenly all go in fast pace to the real position. I nvere experienced nothing similar. Making wurm x 3, guild missions, and tequatl it is anoyingg cause of those issues.

It is obvious that you are touching a little bit here and a little bit there, but my honest opinion is that it is not working, sorry. I had an smooth gameplay before these experiments.

What’s not constructive: “Rewards are bad” (with absolutely no suggestions for how they might be improved).

Telling you that “a reward is bad” it is, actually, constructive.
In order to solve any problem, first you must know what is wrong.
And obviously, you didnt know the rewards were bad (cause you designed it this way, like it was good).
Thats why it is constructive that someone say it to you guys.

Giving solutionts it is always better, no doubt, but pointing the problem to someone who clearly dont realize there is a problem, it is the first step.

Btw, I made my constructive opinions in the spanish forums, i hope you check them.

Hi all,

First of all, i didn’t know where to put this topic… this subforum was the one, I thought, suited it better. If I’m wrong, please feel free to remove it or change it to where it belongs.

In Spain we have a pretty famous carnaval around February in the city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, where girls and designers create amazing costumes to compete as the best costume of the year.
I wanted to share with you the winner of this year, 2015, so it can serve to our equally amazing devs as inspiration. I believe the costume has enough parts and details that our content designers (or whoever wants to give a try ) can get inspired.
And I know our devs are capable of creating really great work in the art and content department.

So who knows?, maybe in a few months/years we have something in game inspired by it, I will love it ^^

Well, the costume in cuestion was called “Áurea”, in spanish, what would translate as “Golden” in english, thought in an “ethereal” way (tbh, i dont think the name fits the costume, to me it is more blackish than golden, but whatever XD), and here a few pictures about it (on attachements).
If you want to check it in movement: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gnADl2QBpAg from 1:21:32 to 1:25:32

I hope do you like it and it had enough details so it can serves Anet as inspiration for future armor/weapon sets or outfits.

If you, artistic player community, feel like you want to play with it to create your own interpretation, i would be glad to see your creationts too.
I would if i knew how XD, im a really bad drawer.

If we need to train all itzel, nuhoc or whatever mastery line in order to beat the first wing challenges, that will make a lot of players to rush the HoT content and they will get frustrated and disappointed with the game veri quickly.

I would also hope that the first wing came after a mont, not after a week from relase (for the same reason as before). But we already know thats not going to happen.

We can discuss how we would like the game to change, but they aren’t going to make changes that cripple their revenue streams, so it’s pointless to do so.

Making challenging content will cripple their revenue streams, cause people will stop playing that kind of content after a few weeks or months (or some people will never play it)
Some people will even left the game after completing it and getting the achievements/rewards attached to it.

They will buy HoT, ok, they will win income there, but then they’ll quit. and 0 income from that point.

It would be nerfed as soon as people dont play it. As it has to be if you ask me.

Casual content for casual game and casual players. Thats what we really want. And if anet is confused about it, i guess only time will clarify it and put each mass of players in their context.

Some people ask for hard content, yeah, but not the real players, who only log in on week ends and play 4 hours per week.

From that point when I have succedded, the content and its dicciultywill be DONE, unless it has good rewards that make me repeat it, even when it is not longer a challenge.

triple trouble takes skill, just you are not the skilled one.

mmmm, so… Now you know me? XD

I command wurms everyday. +300 kills already with my guild.

I just dont think this kind of content is good. It was fun for the first 5 days or the first time you won a reward. But after that, we do it cause there is nothing else to do.

When a new challenging stuff comes up, it will happen the same: after 2 months will be disposable and people will be asking for new content for another 2 months and on and on. And when nothing comes, we will keep doing the same boring and unappealing challenging content.

But to be honest im not worried. I know any real challenge will be nerfed in time, like always. And i know that any challenging content will be lapsed in a few weeks, so from that point, it will no longer be used at its full pace, and will die little by little. Like it deserves :P

+1 to the creator of the thread.
He said exactly what i think and what i want. i dont want this game that i love transform into a frustrating game that only can be played with 150 trained people at the same time or staying on X ip for 2 hours, etc etc. I want a casual game, where i can enjoy and play at its full with just 1-2 hours per day, like GW2 has always been.

the author isnt talking about the overall way the game is played. The author only cares about the reward balance between different types of content.

also what you are refering to is not about challenge, its about barrier to entry.

A sport wouldnt be considered challenging just because you have to wait on line for 2 days with 40 of your friends.

I remind you Tripple wurm is considered challenging content in GW2. And the dificulty it has nowadays is just the barrier to entry: choosing an ip, and put in there all the “challenge lovers”…

Challenging content, in reality, in GW2, not in our heads, is just new mechanics (that will not be new for more than a few days), long content, or both.

A) Challenging Group Content doesn’t mean “insanely long content”. There can be challenge without taking many hours (unless we count wipes), in fact that’s the best kind of challenge

B) I miss the point where any kind of content like this is mandatory. More types of content for more types of players = win isn’kitten

You may consider challenging content a win. But you just have to look the big picture.
It is actually a failure even before start, not a win.
Challenging content is only fun as long it remains a challenge that you cant deal with or if the reward is apealing to you after completing it.

By definition, challenging content has a lapsed time where challenge lovers or any kind of player can have fun with.
After that time, it will be wasted content and wasted resources by anet.

Anet, focus on the kind of content all your players will enjoy, for as long as GW2 lives, and dont fall in the trap of challenging content.
We dont want it, not even the ones who now claim for it. They won’t want it in a few weeks and you will have to create new content for them, and waste even more resources in lapsed content.

And maddoctor, you said that if we have a lot of different content, the better for the game, right?
Well, no, cause in this case, we are talking about lapsed content. Content that nobody will do or will want in a few months. Resources wasted. Instead of making a better game, they choosed to give some resources into lapsed content instead of real content.
I understand why, dont get me wrong. If with this, they manage to make more players (the ones looking for challenging content) to buy, mission accomplished.

But it is not real and durable content. It is just a carrot.
Something that will bring people who doesnt look to the big picture into the expansion.

In a few months after HoT release, when challenge lovers demand new challenging content, or new rewards, or bla bla bla, ill be glad to tell you all: “I told you so”

One of the early issues of this expansion is that the content offered is almost equal to a free LS season + some free feature updates.
And you know, that kind of content i like, but there is a main difference. You have to pay for it this time.

I blame all those people who asked for an expansion, a payed expansion. At the end we’ll have the same as if it was free but paying it.
And with a whole year of wait and lack of content in the meantime…

Learn from our errors and next time, please, ask for more free and frequent content and less semiexpansions with money like this one.

However i personally love exploring. And if i have 4 maps, there is no doubt that i will explore less that if i had 10.

4 maps are lacking on exploration entertainment, i will devoure that quick. Even the areas of the map blocked by masteries.
But lets wait, the 25% of the central lair of verdant brink (what we could test on BWE1) is really good imo, so maybe 4 maps is enough, time will tell.

I just preferred 10 rather than 4, thought.

Right now the best way (and only way) to play GuildWars2 is to buy HoT from official website.

In my opinion if ArenaNet does not create boxed versions fast, many customers will make plans to buy something else after GamesCom

Dont know how is it in NA, but since june 23rd, in EU you can prepurchase a boxed version of the standard edition in a lot of stores. And actually, it is cheaper than buying HoT from the offcial website.

So:

1.- you can buy boxed edition already
2.- it is cheaper to buy a boxed edition than in anet’s web.
3.- remember that you can upgrade any standard edition into deluxe with 2.400 gems (or in other words, less than 450 gold and of course: $0).

you were right guys, i erased that coment about the “verbs” when i thought deeply about it.

if you make a profession from a name, like art/artist (arte/artista), you can make a “profesion”, but you will never use (in spanish) the ending “or”, you’ll use “ista”

The “correct” word should be Tempestista in that case. But again, it is awfully odd, completely invented word, and out of translation cause the translation is Tempestad.

But there is a new chapter guys, now they changed the word
Yes you heared me well… they changed into CATACLISTA

what the hell!!???

Cataclista, i assume it comes from cataclismo (cataclism, in english). but…. why? what is wrong with “Tempestad”?
I honestly dont understand who is translating this stuff into spanish.

Cataclista, the same way that tempestista, ot tempesteador means NOTHING. It is a silly word, invented for who knows what reasons (i guess that with the only purpose to make the specialization silly as well…).

I honestly can only see a fault of professionalism from the localization department, at least the spanish one.

I guess they may feel pretty well in their position, cause i would never treat my work like that if i would care about it. They seem to not care about the game and their work.
I guess that because of the barrier language, must be easy for them to just confuse their english bosses and make them believe there is no complaints or errors in their work…

That… or worst: Anet doesnt care either.

But i refuse to believe this last possibility cause then it will be just a matter of time that the players wont care neither…
And i dont see the profit for anyone in that scenario.

And now… we have the next iteration!!

Ladies and gentleman, with you, the TEMPEST.

Correct me if im wrong, but a tempest is a huge storm, right?, with huge air, rain, and stuff.
In spanish that is a “TEMPESTAD”.

However, the spanish localization department has translate it as TEMPESTEADOR

O_o

XDD

WTF!

1st of all: that word means nothing, is invented.
2nd: it is wrongly constructed. if they wanted to put it like the person who creates tempests (which should be an invented word, cause nobody can summon tempests) should be TEMPESTADOR (or actually: TEMPESTISTA), but definitely not TEMPESTEADOR. (facepalm)

In any case the word, again, sounds odd and BAD TRANSLATED.

It should be called TEMPESTAD in spanish, or just TEMPEST like in its original english way (yes anet, spanish people doesn’t live in caves, we are able to say “Tempest” without an aneurysm :P).

Guiverno, retornado, segador, tempesteador… what else is coming? XD
Terrible marketing guys, the game looks silly just by their translated names.
