I realize this is not related to your inquiry but from your post, it sounds like you are planning on making a second rev to level? Why not try a different class? Its a good idea to learn about each class through personal experience. Also, playing the same class all the time tends to increase people’s burnout rate and boredom with the game from what I have seen and experienced. But then its not for me to say what class to play, just my thoughts on the matter.
Anyways, in regards to your question, I would check out the website Metabattle for builds. Keep in mind though what is posted there is typically intended to offer the most efficient (highest dps) builds for pve and pvp and as such they are not all-purpose “practical” builds for all situations. It is just a good place to start with and then modify the build to suit your needs and playing style. I would also suggest checking out the profession section of the forum. I think there are sticky threads for all of the professions for builds where you can get some ideas.
(edited by Silvatar.5379)
I would definitely keep it for a new character. You will want to try out other classes eventually so no point wasting it on a character that is already 80 AND has some exotic gear.
Just keep farming CoF p1 and p2 once a day (and p3 if you have the time) and you will have enough tokens for 4 more pieces in a couple weeks with very little effort or time and at no cost to you. If you want to speed it up, you can buy a couple pieces from the TP but I would make sure you keep enough money for the sigils and runes which can get expensive if you are buying meta options like scholar runes, etc.
….and character slots as well
Not really a priority but I too would like to see a redesign of the character screen with a better way to organize. One person suggested something like this:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/community/creations/Character-Select-Redesign/first#post5247057
This approach might be too cluttered for people with lots of characters, but I personally would love to be able to see all my characters without having to scroll.
I get that people are frustrated, but Anet handled the situation extremely well. Its the nature of the beast that things like this can and do happen. As others have mentioned, lots of other games actually shutdown on a regular basis for maintenance so we here at GW2 have definitely be spoiled with continuous access. As for asking for compensation, yeah, that’s a pretty self-centered response to the situation but how about this…Anet could give us more new content to play absolutely free….oh wait, they already do this routinely…sweet
I would skip the exotic marauder and simply wait till you can make ascended. In the meantime, you can get cheap exotic easily from a variety of sources: dungeon tokens, karma, pvp tracks, wvw, tracks, or off the Trading Post. It might not be marauder, but you can mix and match some different stat armour to get pretty close to the same effect.
You need to click on the commander of the party/squad and select “join party/squad”. You can identify the commander by their tag . If you cant see the commander on your screen, you can open up the map and left click on the commander tag for the “join” option. Alternatively, you can type the chat command for joining in your chat bar: /squadjoin “name of commander”. You can find more details here: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Commander
It is a good idea to follow a party/squad in WvW in order to stay alive and capture stuff faster. Its also a good way to learn the maps. Once you know what you are doing and feel confident in your abilities, you can try solo’ing but its a cruel world out there alone.
Thanks to everyone involved in making GW2! I still remember the first moment that I logged in and saw the incredible graphics and design of the game. It was awe-inspiring. I particularly loved the first season with living story. To create a game that was in a constant state of evolution was a novel idea and incredibly brave to pursue. It broke the mold of traditional MMO’s. It’s unfortunate that people don’t seem ready for that just yet.
The HoT maps in particular are nothing short of spectacular. I can’t imagine the amount of work that must have gone into them. There is so much more that desires praise so I will just say keep up the great work.

I wish I had the technical know-how to do that with my characters. Looks great!
Pretty awesome. Like the quaggan motif
Is that your guild crest? Just wondering.
The game population is just fine for its age, no matter were you go there are plenty of people. It can sometimes be challenging to find people to do some of the older content (like dungeons) but this can be mitigated by joining a helpful guild, making in-game friends, or just being patient.
Ignore the periodic “Chicken Little” threads claiming that the game is “dead”. These tend to be by people that are just bored, looking for attention, don’t understand the issues, or are pursuing some personal vendetta to spread discontent.
Ultimately though, the best way to find out is to learn for yourself. Your post suggests that you already have the game so why not just log in and check it out
So happy to see these events happening. I had a great time at the last Quaggan Waddle and will definitely do my best to be there again.
Yes, absolutely, give it a try if you are looking for a game to play. HoT added a lot of stuff but you already have access to the bulk of the game content so check it out. And if you enjoy it, you can always buy HoT later.
Some people seem to forget that we all played and enjoyed the game for 3 years without HoT so to suggest that a person can no longer enjoy that same content is ridiculous. Just because some people have stuff that you don’t, does not mean you can’t enjoy the stuff that you do have. A little proverb that is as applicable to this game as it is to real life.
I have never done it so cant help teach it, but since you have gotten no other responses you might want to check this out if you have not done so already:
http://dulfy.net/2016/03/22/gw2-bandit-trio-salvation-pass-raid-guide/
You should add the following options when Right Clicking on another player
“Challenge to a Duel”
Temporarily switch to PvP mode and have players fight until one is in the downed state.“Inspect Player”
Show a read only version of the player’s Equipment Screen including gear, selected glider, and even build configuration. If anyone else has great ideas for what else players should be able to do to other players with right click, please add them here.
No and HELL NO!!
Firstly, there is already a pvp mode where players can go to spar if they wish so a duel mode would be superfluous. And secondly, the ability to “inspect” another players personal gears/build is one of the best ways to RUIN a game community. Thank god Anet learned from the mistakes of previous MMO’s and wisely choose not to implement this.
I am not nearly as knowledgeable about the lore of the game as I would like to be (or should be for the amount of time I have put into the game) but I would hazard to say:
Asura = engineer
Norn = ranger
Silvari = elementalist
Char = warrior
Human = any?
edit: opps, I just realized I reversed your question and paired the best profession for each race. I would probably just lump all the other professions under “human”.
(edited by Silvatar.5379)
As others have said, it is difficult to provide useful advice without knowing more about your situation. What gear are you using? What is your build? What and where are you solo’ing? Do you have any personal issues that make the game difficult (i.e. color blindness, mobility problems, etc).
Previous posts have covered a lot so I would just support the idea of trying a minion necro build. Similar to a ranger, you have a pet to tank for you except you will have a lot more pets at your disposal to keep mobs off your back while you damage-deal (DD) from a distance. Just select all the utilities and skills that spawn or support minions and use whichever necro range weapons you prefer.
Sorry to have missed this, especially as I love Quaggan themed activities. I hope it went well, and everyone had fun. Just wanted to ask if anyone posted any videos of the event that we could watch to see what we missed?
Hopefully I will be able to catch the next one if more are in the works.
It’s great that you take the initiative to inform Anet of issues with the game but if you find a bug, there is an actual subsection within the forum specifically for “Bugs” under the “Support” section. Maybe re-post this there or perhaps a mod can move it.
Hi all,
I am looking to return to GW2 as I saw the 50% sale for HoT. So how is the game now? Also I left due to some issues that caused me rage. They are below and would like to ask, are they solved or non-issues now?
Below are my reasons for leaving (which might sound bad, by it my honest feelings, sorry):
1. I left GW2 when Facturals came out due to the massive boring grind it brought.
2. And how it killed dungeons for me.
3. Also due to the legendaries that appeared after many promises not to do a horizontal RNG gear upgrade and MASSIVE grind it brought. Which I hated beyond words.
4. And due to the lack of end game that was not grinding dynamic events.
5. Oh and yea, after many many months of them not repairing my broken class (was ranger). I remembered they had what 2 or 1 person doing class balancing and Soldier kept getting better and Ranger worst…
6. Oh also WvW got broken after they kept of fixing it to broken-ness.
7. And how each balance steamlined each class to lesser and lessers variations builds till only 1 or 2 builds were viable and the rest not so.
8. Lastly I got temp banned a few times asking for ranger re-balance, which was not fun for me.So… sorry about the above. I put it all there to simply ask… Has Areanet solved most or all the above. GW2 had so many great things but in the end, my angry got in the way of my enjoyment and I felt that leaving was good for all and my health.
But I still got great memories for GW2 and the HoT discount might be a good time for me to come back to it. Yet before I do, would like to ask… How is GW2 now and is the above still issues?
How is the game? In my opinion it is great but with a subjective question like that, only you can answer it. Been here since day 1 and I am still enjoying it though I do play less now but that happens with any game no matter how good it is.
1. How is it a grind? If you enjoy fractals, play them. If you don’t enjoy fractals, don’t play them. Some achievements require you to step inside them but there is no “necessary” reason to farm ANY part of the game that you don’t enjoy.
2. How did it kill dungeons for you? Are you referring to the reduction in rewards? If so, they restored some of the reward value to dungeons but again, if you don’t enjoy dungeons, then don’t run them.
3. RNG gear upgrade??? No idea what you are talking about. Legendaries have the same stats as ascended gear so they in NO way contributed to power creep. They are just a status symbol, nothing more. If you don’t want one, you don’t need one. And you can make money doing ANYTHING in the game so there is no grind except doing what you enjoy.
4. The beautiful thing about GW2 is that the entire game is end game so I am not sure what you are talking about here. The issue of “end-game” is only for an issue for people that need to be “led to water” by the nose. With GW2, simply find what you enjoy (or wish to accomplish) and pursue it. Getting exotic gear is so easy that everyone can be competitive in the game. Getting ascended gear takes time but GW2 has to give us something to do….and you can make money doing anything in the game so no grind of “x” required.
5. If you don’t like your class, there are 8 others to try. No one is forcing you to play only one. Every class has its strengths and weaknesses. The only game that will EVER solve the problem of balance issues a game that gives players only ONE class to choose from.
6. I realize people enjoy playing Chicken Little but changes that you personally don’t like does not mean that something is broken. Only you can decide if the current changes are to your liking or not.
7. All classes have numerous builds that suit different situations, different skill levels, and different play styles….and they always have.
8. People don’t get banned simply for making suggestions for game changes. If you did get banned, then you obviously did something(s) that you are not telling us.
Most of your issues seem to stem from misunderstanding the game design, or preconceptions of what you personally want(ed) from the game. If you don’t like the game, that is okay, there are others out there but the only way to decide if you personally like the game design is to try it.

I pre-purchased the $100 Ultimate version and have not regretted spending it all. I am having a blast playing in the old and new areas pretty much every day. I am still finding new things to see and do.
Same. No regrets paying the $100. Excellent “$-for-fun” ratio but then what one considers fun is always subjective so you really just have to decide for yourself. The maps are incredibly well designed but they are intended to be more challenging for players so many people find them frustrating and rage on them.
Looks like I will be your first customer if you are still willing to help
Where: NA server
When: Next week on a Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday evening should work for me (but we can talk further to find out what works for both of us)
What: “It’s all About Timing” achievement – It’s not hard to do but I can’t solo it fast enough to get it done within eight minutes
Let me know if you are able to help, cheers!
You can also try asking for help in this thread: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/players/Helping-Players
Odd coincidence seeing this thread after I just recently had my first RP experience in-game. I just happened to randomly encounter a couple RP’ers and joined in just for fun……and it was fun!! I definitely plan on seeking out more opportunities for RP in the future.
@ Rankomonaut: I can totally understand why some RP’ers might ignore other gamers. I am sure they don’t mean to be rude but they probably don’t want to break the immersion of their RP either. Also, GW2 is no different from any other MMO in that there is always a wanna-be troll lurking around every corner. Even during my one brief experience RP’ing we had a troll join us to disrupt and mock our RP activities. With that kind of thing happening on a regular basis, I would start ignoring strangers as well, especially if I was uncertain of their motives.
I think this is a great idea. There are always people looking for help with one thing or another in this forum section. In fact, I am surprised no one has posted for help yet. I know there are a few story achievements that I could use help with so I may be back later to post again for help. If no one is going to take advantage of this thread, I will.
I npc’ed soooooo much of that stuff back before they increased the crafting requirement to 4 pieces sigh
Oh well, people have lost a lot more potential income due to game changes than I so I shouldn’t complain too much.
I hate working weekends, I always miss out on community events like this one. I may not be able to come but the least I can do is spread the word about the march to the rest of my guild(s).
I would be happy to help you out if you are on a NA server. My play schedule is rather limited and erratic but I will try whispering you next time I am around. If you wanted to, you can friend me in-game so that you will know when I log in (assuming you still need this).
Yes!! I would most definitely report them. There may be nothing that Anet can do for you personally but if they receive enough reports concerning the same account(s) engaged in this type of behavior, they are bound to look into it more seriously.
Such a troll OP, words fail…. -.-
So far I’ve just been running around where ever I felt like, and doing events and some hearts. I like the feel of exploring everywhere, the game is gorgeous on max graphics. .
Sounds like you are already doing what I would recommend. Hitting 80 does not take very long so just enjoy the journey and try “everything”. I would recommend though doing your personal story as you level. This will help guide and introduce you to the world that is GW2 at a nice pace. Doing hearts and side quests on your current map to level and trigger each consecutive personal story is also a good way to experience the game without rush to the end. Doing so will also help your progress towards making a legendary weapon which requires map completion.
Another idea is to check out the Explorer Achievements. I personally found these achievements to be the most fun achievements in the game as they introduce you to lots of hidden or out-of-the-way areas that I would likely never have noticed on my own. Check out Dulfy’s website or YouTube for help with the achievements if need be.
HaHaHa! That’s awesome. There needs to be an “offical” cosplay thread sticky so others can see stuff like your Winnie before this thread gets buried too. Great job!
Decorating a spot for your own home is a great idea. I will have to stake a claim in our guild hall while I can.
And yeah, love that library.
Quaggan had great fun at event but quaggan sad at lack of minority representation. Where was Superquaggan, Wonderquaggan, Batquaggan, Ironquaggan, Silver Quaggansurfer, Invisible Quaggan, or the greatest of them all, Aquaquaggan?
Are you NA or EU? I cant find you guys in-game.
Looks like an interesting event, though it might be a bit early as you say as it seems to be scheduled for November 5th if I am not mistaken. Nonetheless, I hope it enjoys great success. When the time comes, feel free to contact me if I am in-game as I would be happy to spend some of the time with you so you don’t have to go solo the whole 24 hours again. I would consider participating myself but I am not in the United States.
Welcome to the game, was there any particular advise you were seeking though?
The two websites listed by PyrateSilly are awesome resources. One further bit of information pertaining to those resources however is that Anet has made the game very user friendly by enabling players to access the GW2 wiki directly from inside the game. For example you can just type…
/wiki [enter topic here]
…into the game chat bar and it will bring up the wiki page for that topic. Something I wish I had known about sooner in my GW2 gaming experience.
First welcome back!
I hate to say this but if the mechanics on the thief were “too complicated” then ele might not be the best class to try next. Ele is a lot of fun and its not hard to be adequate with it, but to be considered “good” on an ele can be quite challenging as its mechanics are more complicated than most classes. I don’t say this to discourage you, if ele is what you want to play then go for it. I am just trying to let you know what you are in for.
Also, this post might interest you. One of the best ways to make friends in this game is to join a guild, and this post provides a good list of some inclusive guilds that might be fun to check out: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/community/lookingfor/NA-Looking-for-LGBT-guild/first#post5708586
If the lack of commanders is a big problem for your server, why not try commanding yourself?
Even if you don’t have a commander tag, you can get around that by organizing people using map chat to call out each target as the zerg moves from one cap to the next. Not as convenient as relying on a tag, but still effective.
I still need it and would be happy to team up with you. The only problem is I can’t really guarantee when I will be on but you could always whisper or friend me and ask if you see me around. By the way, are you NA or EU?
Chillin’ with Scout Acan
why do people keep raging at me when i run ahead of them and start boss fights early?
anet should let me play how i want, i mean isn’t that the whole point of the game? people should not judge me for what i do. what do u think?
urs sincerely
a concerned staff ele
Sounds like a life experience thing. Get a job, play some sports, participate in some extra curricular activities with others……and learn what it means to function as part of a “team”. If you only want to do what YOU want to do, have fun soloing. No one is stopping you from playing solo and doing what you want so that is not a legitimate argument (as long as you are within the boundaries of the TOS). If you are going to voluntarily join a party and play with others, you need to learn how to play “cooperatively” which is not synonymous with doing just whatever the hell you feel like doing.

if it wasnt for my guild who i have made lasting freindships with, and for PVP which i love regardless of meta snobs and tier snobs my group always has fun there…
i am seriously tired of being cursed with crap RNG…
was soooo happy with SAB coming back, and this was icing on the cake.. 4/5 got weapon boxes, i got nothing…
since beta launch i can count on 2 hands the good drops ive gotten…
entropy
genesis
5-6 random crap stat rings from fractals/pvp
4-5 some decent stat rings from fractals/pvp
1- tequatle horde wep box..
2 ascended armor boxes from pvp (best drops ive gotten in game) still had to convert to stats i needed..
never got any other exotic worth over 2gold..thats it…
the only thing that keeps me playing is friends in PVP..
while everyone around me is working on their 4-8th legendary, with multiple precursor drops…..
i have played every game mode,
i am not asking for handouts.what am i doing wrong…
am i cursed as one of the unfortunate?
would a diff acct give me better luck?seems same thing happened in GW1, never got good drops there either…
i love this game, and its playstyle but comeon…dont keep giving me, RNG is RNG…. sucks to be u…
I have been playing since day 1 and have yet to see a precursor drop for me as well. Your list sounds almost exactly the same as mine though I have gotten more crappy rings in fractals than you (but then I probably do them more often), and I have had 2 Teq horde boxes to your 1. Otherwise, pretty much the same.
Part of the problem is that we tend to compare ourselves unfairly to others that are the exception rather than the rule (something we do in real life as well as in game).
HoT maps.
They are incredibly frustrating….and simply amazing! A lot of people complain about them and many feel that HoT was not worth the price, but when one steps back and looks critically at how beautiful and intricate they are, and consequently, how much work must have gone into deigning and coding such complicated maps for a game of this scale….its mind boggling…and worth every penny I paid for the privilege of experiencing them.
(edited by Silvatar.5379)
I was going to offer to help but then I saw that you are on the EU servers (I am on NA).
Sooo…. all I can do to help is to “bump” your thread lol.
I also spend a ludicrous amount of time trying to make names that meet the three criteria that you list. However, I do have several names (like my account name) that I carry with me from one game to the next. I tend to use those names first before I start making new ones even if they are not lore appropriate. Unfortunately, one of my favorite names was “stolen” by someone on the first day. It was not a very common name either so they must have remembered my name from a previous MMO…and if that person is reading this…I hate you lol (j/k)
Anet’s sense of humor as seen with the various Monty Python references in the game, Golems that “meow”, epic April Fool’s Day jokes, and the list goes on.
All the stuff in the gem store are either vanity or (in this case) convenience items. Its a big reason why I love GW2 and still play. In my last MMO one had to spend literally thousands of dollars to be competitive. In GW2 you can spend nothing (beyond the purchase price) and still be competitive and have fun. GW2 has one of the most user-friendly business models around for MMO gamers.
