How important is gold/crafting in this game?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Silvatar.5379

Silvatar.5379

You already seem to have your answer but I would just like to respond to your initial inquiry by saying that one of the many awesome things about GW2 is that the importance of gold and crafting is entirely a personal affair. You can play, enjoy, and be competitive in this game with minimal effort to acquire gold as you can get exotics very easily and there is nothing in the gem store that is essential.

And yet, if you like shiny things and feeling “special” there is a plethora of items that you can work towards as a personal goal….far more stuff than most people will ever have time to farm gold for.

The only situation that I can think of where these runes would be genuinely useful would be as a front-line “tank” in a WvW zerg where you are the first one in to soak up damage while your squishy dsp zerg members do their thing, and to keep yourself alive long enough to rez your zerg members as required. Thus, I would tweek every possible gear, utility and trait to maximize my active and passive healing, toughness, vitality, cleansing, protection up-time, ageis, blocks, etc.

In other words, I would use those runes with a build designed solely for survivability in wvw to have the enemy waste their attacks on me.

There are several other runes which are better for that. If it is an actual ZvZ situation a lot of that will be up to RNG anyway. There will be piles of AoEs and if you are lucking the game decides to select you instead of someone else.

Yeah, I realize that there are better runes for this role, I was just trying to think of where runes of mercy might be most useful since the OP is interested in options concerning these runes specifically. Also, if one has ever seen a small organized guild party take out zergs, one will appreciate how effect front line fighters can be at wasting inexperienced and/or unorganized enemy attacks/aoes.

Edited your post to help answer your questions.

1. Now my question. Exotic is it a good lvl of armor?
2. And i saw that Draconic armor is cheap to buy, should i get the whole set in berserk?
and is it enought with Exotic ? or shall i go for other armors?
3. im mostly gonna do pve!
4. Whats the difference between Draconic and other exotic armor u get from dungeons? besides that draconic is crafted..

1. Yes, exotic is a good level of armor. Only ascended armour is higher than exotic and you only need ascended for high end fractals (there is very little difference between exotic and ascended).
2. If you have no problems staying alive, then get all beserker. If you are struggling to stay alive, then get a mix of berserker and something that has some vitality and/or toughness to help keep you alive.
3. Exotic is perfectly fine for just about all pve content.
4. All exotic armor is the same regardless of where you get it (dungeons, npc’s, trading post, wvw). They are only different in how they look. Just decide on what fashion you want, the stat’s you want, and how you want to pay for it. You can purchase exotics with karma from npc’s, with gold from trading post, with dungeon tokens from the dungeon npc, or with a mix of badges of honor and some gold from wvw npc’s.

Edit: oh, I forgot that you can also get exotics for free from the reward tracks by playing pvp.

PvE vs PVP community

This doesn’t surprise me. People play PvP and PvE with different mindsets. PvP is something you do that is more or less fun and PvE is the grind that people do for funds. Esp. true of dungeons and fractals; impatience is mandatory.

Seera is in the right. Your post above is framed as a universal statement. A more mature response would have been to just admit your error, re-frame your statement, and move on instead of defecting, minimizing, and being (not-so) passively aggressive towards her/him. Like Seera, I do not appreciate others speaking for me. I do not play pvp for fun, nor do I play pve just to grind for funds.

Here, I will demonstrate:

This doesn’t surprise me. “I” play PvP and PvE with a different mindset. PvP is something “I” do that is more or less fun and PvE is the grind that “I” do for funds. Esp. true of dungeons and fractals; impatience is mandatory “for me”.

I deleted a level 80 Char engineer and level 80 human warrior to change their races. I also “retired” (but have not deleted) a norn guardian.

The Char just did not suit the engineer class (imo) and the size of the norn was annoying to play (blocked out my vision for timing counter-skills and I hate jumping with them so I made a second human guardian).

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Silvatar.5379

Can you invest in your own game Anet? Gw2 is a huge game with so many players yet the amount of content we get is less than a F2P MMO like Tera. Gw2 has both a box value and a cash to gem conversion. They are banking and to say other wise is being delusional.

This game sold almost 3mil copies, if not more, within the first few months of release. I personally put hundreds into gems and I’m sure I’m not the only one. Most of the people I know in-game at least bought gems once with real life cash. Lets say HoT sold 2mil copies which is fair imo, that means off HoT alone Anet made 120 mil thats not including the $79.99 version or the $100 version that I bought. Where did that money go?! Clearly not into the game since its been months without any new content.

The death of Gw2 will be the lack of content added by Anet. Since HoT release we haven’t got kitten. Most of development goes into the gem store not into real content. Personally I log on to Raid and thats about it, and even those are getting boring since thats all there is to do in the game. WvW is dead dungeons are dead Open World PvE is fun once in a long WHILE but not every kitten day. The one thing I do do other than raiding now is the new PvP season, only reason is for the legendary back piece though, which is time gated like a mother kittener.

So where is all the money going?!

Apparently you have not been around long. Up until HoT we got an amazing amount of new content all for FREE, particularly during season 1 when we were getting new stuff every few weeks. Yes, much of that content was transitory as Anet was trying something novel by creating a dynamic “Living World” that was constantly changing and evolving. Personally I loved it. It was creative and new. Unfortunately, many players are stuck in the past with the old framework of periodic, permanent expansions that just tag-on more dungeons, maps, or whatever. But regardless, GW2 has had a considerable amount of new content released since it was launched. All Your post says to me is that you are new to this game have not been around at all. Also, wtf… you are complaining that no new content has been released since HoT? HoT has ONLY been out for 4 months! Clearly you have no idea what is involved with game design and development at this level.

Ascended gear, fractals question

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Silvatar.5379

Silvatar.5379

Your question has already been answered but yeah, I just wanted to add that you may wish to consider running the daily fractals 1-19 each day. Its an easy, quick way to acquire +1 agony infusions (which can be combined to make higher infusions), to get fractal relics for useful items, get ascended rings, and some decent money as well. All for very little effort, and as others have said, gear does not matter for 1-19. The mechanics are pretty easy to pick up, just watch what others are doing and you will be fine. Once you are comfortable with 1-19 and get a little agony resistance, consider doing 20-49 dailies as well for some quick coin towards your legendary.

I am unfamiliar with that precursor collection , but it sounds like you need fractals 1 and 6.

Free to play

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Silvatar.5379

Silvatar.5379

None what so ever.

You paid for the privilege of having the opportunity to play and experience this game for roughly three years before it ever went free-to-play. That included all the new content that got released during that time, much of which new players (whether they are free-to-play or not) will never have the pleasure of experiencing. In addition, free-to-play accounts have numerous restrictions which you are not subject to. With the game having gone free-to-play, the entire community has also benefited from an influx of more people playing the game which is a positive for pvp, wvw, and every gamer that prefers playing an MMO with other gamers. All in all, the move towards a free-to-play model was a good move for everyone involved.

Any reason to use non berserk gear (Non WvW)?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Silvatar.5379

Silvatar.5379

Yes, there are many reasons why a player may choose or need to use non-zerk gear.

GW2 has a great community (in general) but this issue of “zerk-gear-or-kick” is the worst mentality that plagues the game. As others have stated, there are a variety of situations where other stat’s are genuinely useful for the game content, especially with HoT. More importantly though, people seem to forget (or are oblivious to the fact) that not everyone is a young adult at the peek of their physical reflexes with superb keyboard skills, perfect vision, fully able-bodied, playing on a powerful rig, and living in their parents basement with the time to learn and practice every boss/mob/game mechanic (use of hyperbole there to ram home the point).

The fact is, I know of several players (and no doubt there are many! others out there) that cannot wear zerk gear as they just die too often with it which, understandably, would be very frustrating. For some, its because they are partially blind, some are playing with only 1 hand, others experience difficult cognitive challenges, while others just don’t have the reflexes to make wearing zerk gear “optimal” for them (you cant kill anything if you are always dead).

To summarize, zerk gear is not always the best choice for every pve encounter, nor is it the best or “optimal” choice for every gamer.

I agree, GW2 has an excellent player-friendly business model. Buy the game and you are good to go as there is nothing in the gem shop that is needed to enjoy the game or to remain competitive with the rest of the player-base. So refreshing.

The only criticism I have is the inclusion of RNG items in the gem store, the ethics of which are questionable in a game played by children but GW2 is not nearly as bad as most games in regards to this issue.

Silvatar.5379

Firstly, welcome back.

Just a suggestion but if you are feeling lost coming back after a long break, you might want to consider starting a fresh, new character. Keep your thief but maybe try another profession and start from the beginning by playing the character’s personal story. Playing the personal story will help you learn the lore of the game while guiding you around the maps, and introducing you to many game elements at a pace that wont overload you with information.

Ultimately though, there is no “one way” to playing GW2. It’s about just trying everything the game has to offer, and figuring out for yourself what it is you enjoy doing most. It might be pvp, running dungeons, making alts, doing achievements, wvw, role-playing, or just standing around in Lions Arch and socializing. Each to their own.

As far as changes to the game, the single biggest change recently has been the introduction of The Heart of Thorns expansion.

I think some of you guys are misunderstanding the original post. The OP is simply trying to be nice by warning players of a common (morally questionable) TP tactic used by some TP traders in which they try to “trick” players who are not paying close attention to the prices into selling their stuff for less than the going market value. Sure, everyone has a right to sell their stuff for whatever they want, and sure, maybe people should be paying closer attention to what they are doing but the OP is just trying to raise awareness of this dubious tactic.

Hard to offer any advise without knowing more about your play style and preferences as DH and Druid are very different classes. I will just say that I love playing guardian as I help people all the time with dungeons and other pve stuff, and no class is better (imo) to carry a struggling party or individual through a dungeon than a guardian with its versatility for offering protection up-time, heals, blocks, aegis, cleanse, pulling mobs, blinds, tanking while rez’ing and skipping, and at the same time do decent dps.

However, I love playing Druid as well….but for very different reasons.

Hi, it took me a long time to get into doing dungeons for similar reasons but once I got started, I fell in love with them. I don’t do dungeons much anymore (since the nerf to rewards) but I am always happy to run with anyone regardless of their skill, gears, class, or whatever. Toypocalypse rant+ you have to place siege

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Silvatar.5379

Silvatar.5379

Apparently you have to place siege to get chest and the final 10 present reward from topocalypse. So if you join at 9/10 or 7/10 or whatever and just go around killing stuff….you aint getting the rewards.

  • so place 1 siege, its not that hard :/ Also, if you are joining an instance at the end of it, why should you get the same end reward as those that did all the work :/*

Either that or I got some kind of glitch today (after the patch no less) that prevented me from getting my 10 presents at the end and after a toxx round in between…..even though i was killing stuff and dealing damage to both the toxx’s.

The more I learn about this gamemode the stupider it becomes. Skritt mercs don’t work. mortars are a waste of effort to build and use…They do less damage to toxx than a rifle shot does. Getting ‘you will be kicked’ when I’m standing shooting with the rifle.

  • I stand and shoot all the time and have never seen the “you will be kicked” warning. It does not take that long to kill Toxx.*

Getting it when I stand to heal as well….cause 200-300 tick heal = logical when you have 19k hp to regen.

  • why are you even bothering to heal? Its not even necessary?* If you want to heal though, is it really that hard to hit the “w” ? Sounds like you just want to be able to go afk and get rewarded for it :/ *

God forbid you need to use the washroom.

  • Maybe go to the washroom before you start? *

Siege disappears after a timer or after you have so much on the map. It’s more efficient to stand around after you have placed your siege, and only attack when toxx golemn shows up…using a rifle.

  • How is that efficient? I don’t think you understand how you are using the term in this context. Whether it is “necessary” is questionable but you could certainly be doing more to be “efficient”.*

Stand and click ability 1 on rifle to auto attack and literally just press the number 1…that’s all you need to do after placing your siege. Yet you can’t.

  • So now you are complaining that the game does not let you go afk and/or just hit 1 for the rest of the game?*

The game forces you to build for the sake of ‘looking like you are doing something’. You need to keep building against a nonexistent threat so that the stuff you built at the start disappears, cause reasons!

  • It’s a mini game within a game meant for a brief diversion. How complex did you think it would be?*

It’s easy to see why some things are done the way they are. But it’s even easier to see that the gamemode isn’t fun after you learn what’s really going on…which doesn’t take very long. I mean, could you make one sustainable mode for wintersday?

  • I will repeat myself here, its ONLY a mini game meant for a brief diversion. Its not MEANT to sustain your game play for the entirety of the next month. Try it out, have a little fun, and move on. *

It’s not that hard! Bells: the interval between songs is WAYY too slow. Winter battle….one team is destined to win at the start and the other to lose based on numbers. Auto balance is a funny joke. Jumping puzzle….boring and short with the real enemy being your fellow players and lagg…and glitches.

  • Yeah, lets throw in more QQ about unrelated issues to strengthen the argument about……actually I am not sure anymore…though you were talking about Topocalypse*

It would be so easy to make these modes funner and more sustainable…but you don’t bother putting the effort in! Someone probably designed each gamemode to be fun, and then in an effort to curb any potential abuses you destroyed the fun factor of each mode to create a boring grindfest where the ingame rewards are the only thing of value.

You created the lfg system to be player controlled and it has screwed me over constantly.

  • By “screw you over”, how? You got kicked by a democratic-orientated vote system? By the contents of your post, I am guessing it is because of your attitude.*

You create a wintersday event that is system controlled and you destroy all fun and sustainability of the modes.

  • I just don’t even…..*

They both share one thing in common though: Laziness on the part of Anet. You ship things with the intention that ‘you’ don’t have to be held liable for maintenance. Creating lazy restrictions and systems to enable this destroys the fun factor.

Case and point: Preventing Window watchers in Topocalypse?

  • This is even an issue? -.-*

Look at the issues:
-The mode isn’t fun and people only play it consistently for the end reward.

  • “Fun” is subjective so you cant make that determination for others. Unless you have personally spoken to every single person that has ever played this game mode, you cant say that “people only play it consistently for the end reward”. In fact, I can tell you that this is false myself. *

Solution: make the mode more fun, make more waves, make it harder, allow failure.
-Some people just stand around and go afk while others do the work.
Solution: allow players some control over their party
etc etc…..I don’t care enough to keep going.

  • You have already been QQ’ing that you cant stand still in the game without getting the warning about being kicked. Now you claim that people just stand around and go afk?? At least get your BS straight dude.* And HELL NO!!!!!!!!, the party members should NOT have more control over the party in this mode. The system already makes sure that people can not go afk, and this is intended to be a mini game to celebrate the season. We dont need another instance for “elitist” BS behaviour where people kick others simply because they are not “playing” the way you want them to. Give me a break. And if you do get into a party that you personally dont like for whatever reason, no one is stopping you from leaving and joining another*

‘A’ final solution: Make the mode funner by introducing harder waves and a high chance of failure at the end of the mode. Introduce a final onslaught round or something where failure is predetermined, but how long you last determines a small end reward. This makes placement and the work leading up to it more fulfilling.

  • If you have just wrote these 2 sentences and NOTHING more, your post would have carried more weight as something actually useful but all the pointless QQ and BS just looses you all credibility. *

Everything can still be made to work in a timely manner so a full run through takes the same amount of time as currently or even less time than currently if desired.
If a player is found by the system to have been idle for too long…instead of kicking automatically, give the party the control over whether to kick or not. It could be just two kick votes needed by a full party. Then smaller parties only require 1 person to vote kick to have them booted. It can’t be abused AND complained about at the same time if done this way.

  • So you are basically suggesting the same system that they use elsewhere and which you complain about in your post as constantly screwing you over? “face-palm”*

I shouldn’t even have to explain this stuff…look at any tower defense game for inspiration, everything you need is already in existence in pretty much every game.

If there was a reward for creating something fun and destroying it with system restrictions, you would win! It’s sad, but there’s no denying it’s true. I just feel bad for whoever spent time visualizing and creating the minigames, only to see all the fun and heart sucked out of them. There’s no way somebody created toypocalypse to play the way it currently does ‘on purpose’…..

  • Honestly, I dont mean or want to troll people but seriously. This post…….

Firstly, its just a mini game meant for a little diversion and fun. Secondly, no one, myself included would be adverse to seeing some improvements to make the game even more enjoyable or moderately more challenging however, its a Christmas game meant to entertain not frustrate people. If you want a challenge, go solo a dungeon. Ultimately, please learn to leave the BS at the door and just focus on how to share constructive feedback.*

Enjoy the Personal Story, do some Dungeons, Fractals and enjoy some PvP and WvW and gather everything you see and craft as much as you can.

Ultimatly just have fun.
Once you’re level80 and you buy HoT there is more fun to do with planety of new content and minigames you can enjoy like Adventures…

Do what you enjoy and try everything the game offers.

Perfectly stated.
——
@ OP: You mentioned that you are looking forward to trying the dungeon. Dungeons can be a lot of fun but unfortunately, as someone mentioned, the dungeon rewards got significantly reduced so now its hard to find people willing to do them. Consequently, I would strongly suggest that you either find a small, closely knit guild that does things together or a large friendly guild where you will hopefully find enough people willing to do dungeons with you so you can try dungeons when you are ready. Also, joining a guild is a good way to met people, make friends, and get advise about the game from veterans.

Remove JP requirement for shoulder item!

The real world makes many accommodations for disabled people. Why should GW2 be any different? People are requesting alternatives to acquiring the skin: not handouts.

++++++1

I work within the disability community and the lack of understanding and empathy here is incredibly disturbing. This issue is not about “entitlement” or asking for “handouts”. It is not even about making the achievement easier. People are just asking for Anet to design the game to accommodate a wider demographic by creating more options. There is no logical reason that the jp has to be part of the achievement, nor does it have to be removed. All that is required of Anet would be to create more options for HOW one completes the achievement to get the shoulder skin. It already does this for many things, such as dailies, were you can pick which tasks to do in order to complete the overarching achievement.

Furthermore, “practicing” is not always the answer. Yes, practice will help many people but for others, practice alone will not enable them to overcome serious disadvantages like missing limbs; deteriorating reflexes; serious medical impairments; or, countless other challenges.

No one is asking for the impossible – a game that is everything to everyone, but there is no reason why Anet could not provide people with more options for how they obtain something as special as the winter day shoulder armour, especially considering the time of year :/

Happy Winterday….

What to do with Laurels?

Ya, what Oxidia said. If you are planning to get a legendary, use them to get T6 mats for crafting it. If you are not going to make a legendary, you still want to get T6 mats to sell for gold. However, be sure to keep at least 20 laurels for an ascended amulet https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Laurel_Merchant_%28WvW%29 (you can get the ascended rings with pristine fractal relics and the ascended accessories with guild commendations rather than with laurels).

Can't decide between Revenant or Guardian?

The good thing about your situation is that both are heavy class characters and both use many of the same weapons. Consequently, you only need to make one set of ascended equipment and they can just share it (which is what I do with all my heavies).

I don’t see that you really need to decide between one or the other, just make your ascended gear and play with both…..until you get tied of one or realize that one is a better “fit” for you.

Personally, I am still in love with guardian but it seems like Reverant is the more popular choice atm for most game modes. All I can say is go with what you tickles your fancy.

The amount of bugs in this game is ridiculous

i would suggest making a clear and concise post in the bugs forums if you want to be helpful and expect any sort of fix for said bugs.

coming to the general discussion forum and saying, “this game has a lot of bugs. it has more bugs than game x” is just a waste of time and energy.

+1 This.

Its only to be expected that a game this complex, with this much coding is going to have bugs. Especially considering how much, and how frequently, the game has gotten new content added (albeit, much of the new content during the first season was transitory, but it was still new content). Its just the nature of the beast. The best one can hope for is that the service provider does their best to address bugs as they are discovered, and in this respect, Anet does a reasonably decent job. Important bugs typically get fixed as fast as one would see in any other MMO. If minor stuff gets neglected, it because, believe it or not, Anet has finite resources, and as such, they have to prioritize where they devote their energies.

Also, Anet is a business like any other. Their survival depends on retaining their customers and they know it. So anyone writing comments like, “Anet doesn’t care about bugs” is just full of bitter BS. Its all about a business making priority decisions that will best serve their customers’ interests. Sometimes they get it right, sometimes not. And the way to help them get it right is with MEANINGFUL feedback.

How's the game?

Hey there, prepare yourself for a barrage of questions!

It’s been quite a while since I have played, since the game went f2p I have not logged in more than once for more than 10 mins or so. Anyhow, I wonder how the game has been lately. How’s the community? It used to be pretty nice for an MMO community, and the moderation was pretty strong (which I enjoyed), is it still pretty much the same deal? If you are familiar with Tarnished Coast how is the RP there?

Are the mechanics of the game still pretty much the same, dodge lest you be one shot? Are dungeons still the same in terms of difficulty (or lack thereof depending on your level of play). How are you all enjoying the new class and expac?

Since going f2p has the game “cheapened” in any way? Like is there a constant push to use the store or tactics like more stuff locked behind the store?

Sorry for the interrogation and I plan to check it out, but just wanted to get a vibe from the community and see what people thought. Thanks.

1. How is the game lately? – totally subjective, you have to decide for yourself.
2. How is the community? – subjective as well but still good in my opinion, good people find good people to play with
3. RP in TC? – no idea to be honest as I don’t RP
4. Are mechanics still the same? – for the most part yes, but with specializations, all the classes have been tweaked in how they are played
5. Dungeons? – yes, they are the same in difficulty but their rewards got nerfed so its hard to find parties now
6. How are you enjoying the new classes/expan? – everyone is different but I like it. Added a bit more variety without deviating too much from the core game
7. Has f2p cheapened it? – nope, just more new people playing which is good for the community
8. More stuff locked behind gem store? – Nope, nothing you “need” is locked behind the gem store

Teq has been kind to me, he is the one thing in game that has dropped something nice for me. I have gotten at least 2 or 3 ascended weapons from him including the Hoard chest, and I doubt I have killed him as many times as you so I am guessing just bad rng luck. Also, don’t believe all the links you see, some people get one and like to troll people by constantly linking it at every opportunity.

If it makes you feel any better, my luck is crap everywhere else in the game :/

An ugly world completion badge...

Hell, I think you should be able to choose what you show.

This is the best idea!!!

Just as we choose which Title our character shows, we should be able to choose which achievement icon the character shows whether it is for pve, pvp, wvw, or whatever….but it should just be ONE. I also hate the unnecessary visual/ugly clutter.

If you are talking about the transmutation stones, they are not even in the game anymore (nor are the transmutation crystals) as far as I am aware. They both got removed. Its just the transmutation charges now which are fairly easy to get in-game. I think if you just double click on the stones they might even go into your wallet as charges now….I cant remember how Anet “fixed” this when they decided to get rid of them.

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Transmutation_Charge

Also, I would not be wasting your money on ugly hats and other winterday stuff like that. Winterday is coming and you will have lots of opportunity to get that kind of stuff for free playing the game…if that is something you are wanting. There is nothing really all that good to get with them anyways….though that is purely subjective.

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Ugly_Wool_Hat

Edit: Everyone has already provided you will some good information about the items in your list, but rest assured that whatever you decide, whether to keep them or get rid of them, nothing on your list is of any significant value or use so its not a big deal one way or the other. And with any luck, you can turn the stones into charges by double clicking them.

Too many Black Lion skins

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Silvatar.5379

Don’t get me wrong, I am all for more free skins to choose from. Fashion Wars can be fun. But seriously, the game already had tons of free (or easy to obtain) skin options, more than most games. So what’s the problem?

As for Black Lion skins, I have no problem with them. Why? ….because you DON’T need them. Anet is a business, and as such they have to make money some how. I would rather they pack the gem store with cosmetic stuff than something necessary like an ascended mat and turn this into a pay-to-win game like most “free-to-play” games. Players should be praising Anet for this not QQ’ing. Too many black lion skins is only an issue for those that are easily distracted by…

….oh look, something shiny!!

So many cheaters, clearly ‘achievements’ are simply worthless these days as no one can know if you actually did it yourself or someone did all the work for you.

Riggghhhhhhttttt……because players playing together and helping each other in an MMO is cheating.

Are you saying that you are such a jerk that you have NEVER helped anyone in the game accomplish something?

Any class can do well in pvp and pve but if the pvp league is anything to go by, the most popular at the moment seems to be Reverant, Ele, Engi, and Ranger. But things are always being “balanced” so who knows what the best class might be tomorrow (sic.). I would just go with whatever class you find most enjoyable.
