Ive actually never seen the karmic infusions before, but I have also been living under a rock.. how many items have utlity slots in them? Does 1 infusion really increase karma gain from events by 15%? If so then People must be stacking em like craaazy?

COF p2 Magg bug - how to avoid?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Silvatar.5379

Silvatar.5379

I have done CoF p2 more times than I care to remember, but I have rarely had problems with Magg. Sometimes he would be a pain to respawn if he died too close to a player (but too far in the lava to rez), but otherwise he would either follow or re-spawn directly to the player waiting for him at the boulder.

HOWEVER, lately, Magg has become a serious pain. I do not read all of the patch notes or forum threads so maybe someone can tell me whether the programing for Magg has changed. For instance, he no longer predictably re-spawns to the closest player. Twice now in the past week he has spawned to the players waiting at the entrance wp rather than at the player waiting for him at the boulder after dying in the lava. He just seems very glitchy now…more so than ever.

What's a good gear goal for a casual player?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Silvatar.5379

Silvatar.5379

Yes, all the suggestions were very helpful, thank you. I didn’t know there was a full set of gear you could buy with Karma, I currently use Karma here and there at hearts to upgrade my pieces one by one.

I’m lvl 74 atm, and planning ahead so as to farm something at max level until I’m decently geared, then planning long to very long term goals after that.

Firstly, using a bit of karma for upgrading armor as you level is fine (I did too). But I don’t recommend using it or Badges of Honor for purchasing your level 80 gear as those items can not be salvaged. Thus, runes and sigils can not be retrieved if you decide to change your gear at any point.

Secondly, ascended armor and weapons are a long, long term goal for a casual player. Exotic gear is perfectly fine as knowing how to play your class is far more important than the minor difference in stats between ascended and exotic. Therefore, I would recommend the following goals to a new, casual player:

1. When you hit 80, buy some rare armor from the TP (knights or soldiers for learning) and start farming CoF p1 and p2 for tokens which you can use to get all your zerker exotic armor/weapons as well as to make money to buy your runes and sigils (you can salvage your rare armor afterwards to get ectoplasms).

2. Run guild missions to buy ascended accessories with guild commendations.

3. Run low level fractals to purchase ascended rings.

…And have fun!

What should I be spending laurels on?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Silvatar.5379

Silvatar.5379

That’s of course assuming you want to do fractals.

@OP – what he means is that you can get ascended rings from doing fractals rather than spending laurels on them.

I would suggest getting an amulet (Distinguished Circle of Logic – zerk stats) with the karmic infusion (for karma). Then hoard a pile of laurels for future use as you will need them to make ascended weapons and gear (laurels are required to purchase the recipes). However, if you are really keen on spending them, most people use them to acquire T6 mats either to sell on the TP or to use in crafting (such as for legionaries).

Looking for friends

Silvatar.5379

I don’t have much time to play due to real life commitments at the moment but seeing as you are new, I could offer some suggestions:

1. If you look through the forum, you will find other people posting similar threads looking for people to play with. You could try “whispering” or mailing them in game to make contact.
2. Joining a guild is usually the best way to meet new people, and there are always guilds around recruiting. Just use map chat to “advertize” yourself (i.e. “new player looking for a fun, friendly guild”)
3. Use map chat to find people that might want to partner-up and do stuff together like quests, map completion, or whatever.

When you get higher, you can also start running dungeons with random groups. This is an awesome way to meet people and make friends. I have met most of the people on my friend’s list this way. Anyways, welcome to the game and good luck.

A-net, I love your game....

Silvatar.5379

Like those before me, I just had to post as well to emphasis what incredible customer service and support A-Net has. They helped me to satisfactorily resolve a serious issue in a timely manner. They were reasonably fast, friendly, helpful, and responsive to my needs. One just has to have a little patience and understanding about how many tickets/issues they have to deal with every single day. As any good business that is overwhelmed, they will prioritize tasks….and getting a name change is NOT a serious issue which is why I am guessing you had to wait longer than you wanted to for support …and which I am guessing is the reason for all the negativity in your post.

Secondly, if you look at the direction of the changes that they have made to the game, you can clearly see that they DO listen to the player community. And if you have seen all of the ridiculous feedback that gets posted on this forum everyday by individuals that have no clue about game design/gaming psychology/the gaming industry then you would be immensely grateful that A-Net is not more responsive to player feedback than they already are.

Lastly, you lose credibility for the merits of your post by blatantly attempting to disguise what amounts to just another QQ thread as a “game-appreciation” thread with your title. If you genuinely want to offer meaningful, constructive criticism to help A-Net improve their services and game, be up-front and objective about it.

Returning player curious about classes

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Silvatar.5379

Silvatar.5379

I personally don’t think that any of the classes are OP or broken. They all just simply have different strengths and weaknesses that make them more or less suited for different roles and play-styles. For example, Necromancers are great for pvp/wvw, but not so well suited for group pve content whereas Guardians are awesome for group pve content but not necessarily the best option for solo pvp. Even so, such strengths and weaknesses are not so significant that they break the class for use in whatever content you choose.

Thus, you really can’t go wrong on picking a class. It’s simply about picking a class that appeals to you and matches your play-style.

I run dungeons with my Necro.

Sure, you aren’t going to get invites to speed runs, but that’s probably for the best. Who wants to hang out with people who belittle you for your character choice anyway?

You cant call pug group speedrun in any terms. And serious runners take necros to parties if not duing record runs. It’s not a top notch class but it’s viable. Plz dont make assumptions about ppl you dont know. It makes you look childish.

More from Many:

Speedrunners have guilds and own parties. Pug world isnt a speedrun world.

Frankly, I don’t think you know what you are talking about. I do speed runs with pugs everyday. Just look at the lfg listing…there is almost always groups listed for speed runs: people that want to run with other people that are using optimized builds and gears for the fastest possible kills, with plans to run the dungeon in the most optimal, fastest way possible……that is a speed run. Due to the potential for miscommunication and mishap as people in pug groups do not generally know each other and are not typically on communication software to coordinate the run, speed records are not going to be set. They are, nonetheless, speed runs in every other sense of the term. If you disagree with how I have defined a speed run, please provide us with your own definition of a “speed run”.

As a side note, I have no idea why you would call mtpelion’s post childish as you completely misunderstood what he wrote :/

Sounds like you might be better off finding a more linear game to play, one that will spoon-feed you directions and objectives. GW2 is designed more for people that are self-directed in setting their own goals, finding things to do, and engaging in those activities that they enjoy most. I have been playing since launch and there is still plenty of content and things to achieve that I am working towards or hope to experience (I “game” in moderation though).

In any case, if you think that the legendary bows are your only/best options as a ranger, I would suggest that your next goal be to learn how to play your character ….and learn what skins are if you are that unhappy with the appearance of the legendary bows.

This thread, srsly? There are a total of like 4 hammers with unique skins in game, and like 2 more from some of the skin series that don’t blow. Other than that..it’s just a generic reskin of a bad model strapped on a hammer, same as with most weapons in game.

Your post, “srsly”? There are 101 hammer skins, only a few of which share the same design leaving approximately 90 that are completely unique.

Back on topic: To throw another option out there, I really like the Dreamthistle skin though you need to design your character around it to make it work.

Reached lvl80... what to do/buy first?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Silvatar.5379

Silvatar.5379

I managed to reach level 80 with a generous help from Tomes and Writs. Now that I’m level 80, what should my priority be in spending gold?

Should I try to buy weapons?
Or should I try to buy traits?

I’m playing a guardian, and I assume that, for a while, I should just save gold/karma until I can afford the temple karma armor.

I would just save the gold and karma period. You will need them for more important things that are harder to get in the future than traits or exotic gear. Most of the traits are pretty easy to get just by playing the game (just maybe spend a few gold for those that you consider too much of a pain). As for the armour, I would personally avoid any karma armour as it can not be salvaged (to retrieve your runes) and that karma can be used for more important things. Just go run CoF p1/p2 (and p3 if you want but it takes longer and can be a pain with inexperienced pugs) daily for several days and you will have all the tokens you need for all your armour.

Edit: Also, I would plan to get most of the traits as well so that your guardian can be more versatile for example going meditation/AH/Frac hammer/etc as the situation requires it. Don’t box yourself into just one or two builds.

Yes it is. Gamers still commonly use it as a derogatory term to insult other players. “Noob” does not = “newbie” which is the term that the OP should have used in his/her post heading.

Newbie is someone that lacks awareness because they are new where as a noob is someone that lacks awareness because they are just too lazy or arrogant to learn (roughly speaking). Don’t blame me, I did not manufacture these terms, its just what the gaming community has created for itself :/

Posted by: Silvatar.5379

Silvatar.5379

Well, I am not sure that playing the TP with meager funds and limited time is going to be the safest or fastest way to accomplish your goal but I will leave that for someone else to address. I would just suggest that you consider using your limited time to run a CoE path or two each day. You can get lodestone drops in there while netting profit from loot and rewards to eventually buy the T6 mats that you need (you can even get some T6 mats in the dungeon as well if you are lucky).

I was in the same boat you are in now…limited time and just needing lodstones and T6 for my Sunrise so I just ran p2/p3 almost daily.

Ya, it gets harder and harder to find people for this and all dungeon story modes as fewer and fewer players require it.

Anyways, I would suggest:
Step 1 – ask in guild for help
Step 2 – post in LFG “Arah Story all welcome”
Step 3 – spam map chat…..“looking for more for Arah Story, self invite” (not everyone needing Story will be scanning the LFG just at the time that you happen to post it)
Step 4 – be patient

People in your guild might not be free right away to help out but if no one is willing to help out when they “do” become free……well, you might want to consider finding yourself a more friendly guild.

“I play how I want…”

Silvatar.5379

Everyone should run PVE meta (Zerker) and start dealing some serious damage.

This statement disgusts me. It is that sad.

I’m not a believer, but I will use a theist example for why we should follow the meta.

The “Free Will” defense is a counter-argument against why an Omni-potent/scient/benevolent God allowed “evil” to exist, because the greater good “Free Will” will eventually steer people to do good overall. Because it is more valuable if we choose to do good, therefore God didn’t create a perfect world where no evil existed. The meta in the world, therefore, is to believe in God and do good, otherwise you’ll cause pain in life and suffer in afterlife. The hiddenness of God (reason why he doesn’t explicitly show himself) is also necessary to ensure Free Will is exercised by humans.

It is indeed disgusting when someone reveal something you do not believe in to you. But it is not when the system yells at you after the multiple times you fail events or run long dungeons with non full-zerker groups. Heaven or hell, your choice.

Not only a ridiculous but pointless analogue. You should have just stuck with the last paragraph to make your point. And in the interest of addressing that point….it seems that some individuals lacking in critical thinking skills are under the impression that all gamers are in their late teens to early 20s when reflects are at their peek with no physical or mental impairments of any kinds, have exceptional typing skills, and have no life so that they can spend all day learning the timing for countering/dodging all attacks from all bosses/champs/mobs/etc .

For your edification, there are gamers in the world that don’t met this criteria. Many are younger children or ‘mature’ individuals with less than perfect reflects. Others may have physical disadvantages such as MS, cerebral pulse, vision impairments, or missing digits/limbs. Others may have mental health challenges that create interference with quickly processing purely game related information or other types of cognitive challenges. Others have poor typing skills which also reduces their reaction time. And the list goes on. The point being that zerk gear is and never will be the best option for MANY people. Yet these individuals have as much right as you or anyone else to play the game in a manner that best fits their abilities OR enjoyment of the game.

Lastly, just to remind people, this is a video game…A VIDEO GAME. If you don’t like the way a particular person plays the game, the solution is simple, don’t play with them. And if a group event fails once in awhile….who the “F” cares. If it matters that much to you its a sign that you need to reexamine your life priorities.

@Cyvien – by the way, you may want to remove your signature as it calls you out as a hypocrite when juxtaposed with the contents of your posts.

March 28, hundreds of millions of peoples, 7000+ cities and 150+ countries gonna turn of their lights for one hour. Would be fun if you also would join in.

http://www.earthhour.org/

And devs, would be cool if you could do some kind of event. To turn of all lights in Tyria would probably be too much programming but maybe turn of the lights somewhere in LA and have some NPC’s telling players about Earth Hour.

I plan on turning everything off. As others have said, its not much but its the least that one can do. Participating in a social movement of this nature is all about raising awareness for a critical issue which will hopefully, in whatever small way, might help influence people to adopt a more socially responsible life style.

Unfortunately, a lot of people don’t care about this issue (ignorance is bliss), so I image there will still be a lot of people playing in-game. Given this, I think having an in-game event would be a great idea. Perhaps the ambient lighting could be reduced on all the maps to create a sense of darkness to reflect the symbolic gesture of turning out the lights in the real world. Anyways, just thought I would “second” your suggestion for an in-game “event” in support of Earth Hour.

Q about Crafting skills for a guardian

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Silvatar.5379

Silvatar.5379

To be honest, it doesn’t matter which class has what crafting skills. If you want to reduce the costs of going between all of the crafts, do two crafts per character.

This.
If you plan on having alts just do 2 crafting skills on 4 different characters (does not matter which). If you ONLY ever plan on playing the one character, Guardian, then I would work on weapon and armour crafting as these will be the most use to you should you ever want to craft ascended stuff for your character….and work on chef and jeweler on a secondary basis.

Hi everybody!

I just stumbled upon a vendor named Officer Veros in Lion’s Arch and I found this amazing armor set! I’m wondering if it’s possible for a really new player who just got to 80 like myself to get this gear? Or is it something I have to be experienced/geared for?

Thanks for reading!

Ya, it’s not hard to obtain. I would recommend:

Step #1: buy some rare armour/weapons from the TP which should probably only cost around 3 to 4 gold for everything (Knights or Soldiers might be best as you learn the dungeon)
Step #2: watch CoF path 1 and 2 on youtube
Step #3: run path 1 and 2 for the first time with your guild/friends or anyone willing to teach a newbie
Step #4: run path 1 and 2 daily for a couple weeks and you will have all the tokens you need for a full set of armour and a weapon plus some decent gold from path rewards and loot to buy sigils and runes
Step #5: salvage your rare armour for ectos which you can sell to recoup the money spent to buy them or save the ectos for crafting stuff later
Step #6: win game

(you may want to run p3 daily as well but it takes longer so its not very efficient for token farming….also, p3 groups are not forgiving to those that don’t know the path)

Troll report

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Silvatar.5379

Silvatar.5379

Can we have a way to report trolls in game? People whose sole purpose is to ruin the experience for other players, screw up events, etc. At this time we have no recourse when they appear and make our lives miserable.

Unfortunately, this is a problem with every MMO. Why? Because playing an MMO means playing with other people….lots and lots of other people, and there is just no realistic way Anet could efficiently “police” trolls in an MMO. And if they did try, people would be raging on the forums about unfair bans, censorship, false accusations, and more. It would be a complete nightmare for Anet.

While I sympathize with your situation (I hate trolls too), Anet already provides us with some tools to deal with trolls such as the blacklist, kicking from squads, and various reporting options. You can also use your initiative to simply leave a squad/guild/gaming area if trolls are a problem. Remember, trolls need to be fed to be kept alive, if you leave them, ignore them, blacklist them, etc. they will eventually die (in other words, go elsewhere seeking attention).

Legendary Longbow is lame...

Silvatar.5379

The legendary longbow “Kudzu” (bow that shoots flowers) is lame. I was really excited about crafting a legendary weapon until I saw what it looks like and what it does. A bow that looks like a plant with flowers, that shoots flowers? Maybe fine for some but definitely not all. You offer 3 greatswords but only one lame longbow. This is a real bummer.

As you identify in your own post, everyone has different tastes (“Maybe fine for some but definitely not all”). I personally like the look as do many others. Did you feel the need to publicly complain about this because you expect ANet to consult with you personally on all their weapon designs before putting them in the game?

The only point that you make of any merit is that it would be nice to have a wider range of legendary skins to choose from. However, you do realize that ANet has empowered players to change the skins on weapons so if you don’t like the one it comes with you can simply change it, yes? You can even earn the necessary transmutation stone within the game so you don’t even have to pay for it! I know of no other MMO that does this much to accommodate for player tastes and yet people still find something to QQ about >.<

So what’s the problem? Oh right…..the forum is for QQ and trolls only. My bad.

However, the system is not perfect, and unfortunately this is an example of where it does not quite work. As Thaddeus mentions, this part is actually quite hard if you are doing it with an ‘at-level’ squad of new people but for a group of experienced 80’s, ya, it’s far too simple and needs some tweaking. Randomizing the spawn order, as some have suggested, would be a great start (and a viable one).

I understand the frustration you might feel for not having obtained a greater advantage over other players in the game but legendary weapons are mostly about ‘prestige’. My advice would be to simply be happy and pleased with yourself for having obtained one (if not thee) hardest item to get in the game. Not only do you have an awesome looking weapon, but you have accomplished what very few players have managed to do. I seriously doubt I will ever get an Eternity so to hear someone unhappy about getting one is, well……let’s just say, hard for me to sympathize with you (ya, I am jealous lol). The last MMO I played had a fantasy realm similar to GW2. Then they introduced motorcycles into their version of a gem store…….some lines should never be crossed, and Anet is dangerously close with this one.

Server Questions

Only matters if you want to WvW with your guild/friends (in which case you will need to be on the same server).

You can always change servers again if need be in the future so don’t worry about it too much (though there is a transfer fee for that, not sure how much).

What others have said….I would stay clear of Karma gear. Just get yourself some rare armour from the TP, its not very expensive and you can recover a good portion of your money by salvaging it for ectos after you get your exotic armour (so its not wasted money). Rare armour with either some vitality or toughness + power will give you enough protection/dps to stay alive while you learn the dungeons as well as help pull your own weight.

Do CoF 1 and 2 daily for a couple weeks and you are done. You will have all of your berserker armour/weapons PLUS you will make some decent money from dungeon loot and rewards which you will need for buying superior sigils/runes.

I get it, honestly I do…..forums are for QQ and trolling only, but at the risk of trying something new….

GW2 did an awesome job with the underwater combat!!!! Underwater combat is the same in every MMO that I have played. It is NOT meant to be the main arena for gameplay, it is just intended as a side element to add an extra dimension to the experience. Sure, they could have left underwater combat out of the game but how lame would it be if there was no water in the game at all or if you were not permitted to enter the water (of course, if there was no underwater combat, people would just be QQ’ing about that lol).

Those complaining about having to change utilities/skills, seriously? You don’t think that it makes sense to be required to change your fight tactics when you are in a completely different environment? :/

And while I agree that it is unfortunate that one can not show-off their cool underwater weapons on land, it is consistently logical to have two different sets of weapons for different environments.

Spears/Harpoons – Melee / Throwing
Speargun / Harpoon gun – Strictly ranged
Tridents – Melee / possibly throwing

Realistically, spears can and have always been used either way; even all throughout history.. so to keep it strictly within the rules of this game (underwater) when other things in-game do parallel real life wouldn’t make any sense.

And as unconventional firearms, harpoon guns still work even on land.. so yea.

Then getting back to history, tridents have been used in gladiatorial fights. To say or keep it stictly as an underwater weapon would fall under the same argument as spears.
____

What should be done as earlier mentioned, allow each category of weapons to be used on land or underwater – while trying to stick to rules of physics as best as possible.

(Example 1: You can still fire guns underwater, even if its only 1 shot. But good luck trying to shoot a bow.)
(Example 2: You’ll draw and swing a dagger faster than if it were a sword or a greatsword. Same goes for maces and hammers)

As magic items go, such as scepters/staves.. its magic /nuff said. And ofcourse usage would entirely depend on the class using the weapon. Just where it’s being used should determine the possibility of using it, and any hinderance that may apply.

Sure, I agree that it is possible to use an underwater weapon on land (and vice versa), but no one in their right mind would ever take an underwater weapon to a land battle. Weapons/tools are designed specifically to be most efficient for their respective environments. That is why you don’t see a regiment charging the enemy on land armed with harpoons :/

Sure, tridents were used by gladiators but that was more for the sake of novelty, to entertain the audiences, not because it was an effective land weapon. Even spears are typically designed differently for their respective environments. So I guess GW2 could change underwater weapons to be used on land, and just simply give them extremely bad stats when used for land combat in order to parallel real life logic. So what exactly is it that people want here? …… for GW2 to spend their time and financial resources on coding underwater weapons to be an ineffectual weapon on land, which no one in their right mind would ever use?

Two different sets of weapons, one for land combat and one for underwater combat…..this DOES parallel real life logic.
