If you are keeping that mes parked there for a while I will definitely take advantage of that next week. This is my last goggle dive as well which I have been avoiding for too long. I would have joined this conversation a week ago but life has been far too busy of late but holidays are coming up. If your mes has left, no worries, I have waited this long I can wait a bit longer and try doing it myself again.
Aside from making ascended, no they are not much use. The bloodstone is used for a few additional things though if you want to check it out https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Bloodstone_Brick
I destroyed thousands upon thousands of the stuff until I finally got lev 500 in crafting and started to make ascended gear. Until you are ready for making ascended gear, the best option would probably be to get the Princess to eat the dragonite ore. It’s pretty easy to acquire https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Princess
The Mawdrey and the Star of Gratitude will eat the other two but they are more of a problem to get (with Christmas coming, you might be able to get the Star again so keep an eye out for this).
rarely did I see any criticism that has virtually no-one standing on the ders’ side, except for their own forum bots.
Nice job at minimizing the voice of the “other”
Also, please merge thread.
The visual change for the sake of so-called “reducing the visual noise” probably generated the most united and biggest backlash since the NPE
Where’s the big, multi page thread on it? I missed it.
Nvm found. 8 pages.
are you serious? Oo

Yah. Overlooked it because it’s not important to me. /shrug. And people are always complaining about something.
Excuse tested and found legit.
While I’m certainly not a fan of them, and my tickets are definitely safe from being spent this time, it’s nice that there are less flashy/simple skins which I do think is needed every now and then.
Yeah, my sentiments exactly though I do like the mace…best mace design yet I would say.
My main concern is that we are now going to get a flood of dominatrix redesigned characters from all the “g.i.r.l.s” using that focus :/

I like your ideas but……
1. The idea of dailies is in large part to encourage people to, firstly, log-on each day, and secondly, to play a variety of content so that all areas of the game continue to thrive with some level of activity. HoT does not require this additional incentive to attract player activity (at this time). Sure, it would make getting dailies done easier as a by-product of doing what many are already doing, but this is not what dailies are in part meant to accomplish.
2. As a dungeon lover, it would be awesome to see dungeon dailies but seeing as it was Anet’s intention to get players to STOP playing dungeons, this will never happen (unless they decide to change their position on this issue).

Classic – that is all.
^ now does grammar and spell checks for gold.
Loan-sharking.
Need to make some new ascended gear? I might be able to help you out.
I have no doubt there are games that manage to avoid bot infestations without the use of DR thanks to 1) its overall design; 2) because there is no rl money to be made from botting; or, 3) its a small game that flies under the radar. But if I sound overly opposed to removing DR, its because of my own biased experience in my last MMO where massive bot infestations were common with devastating impacts on the economy and the community in general. Glad to hear you had a better experience than I did!!
(edited by Silvatar.5379)
What else am I supposed to try I have had a go at crafting exploring even tried playing with a guild of which i came to the conclusion I am not suited to guilding
Some of these options wont be possible or practical until you hit 80 but there are other things to do in game such as:
1. Dungeons
2. PvP
3. WvW
4. Guild missions
5. Map exploration and completion
6. Jumping puzzles
7. Make new characters and try different classes
8. Personal Story
9. Heart Quests
10. World Bosses
11. Map event trains
12. Fractals
13. Raids
14. Achievements
For the last one on the list: go to the Achievements section of the Hero panel and you will find lots of ideas of what you might do. My personal favorites are in the explorer section. The explorer achievements will take you all around the map, some go to hidden locations with (relatively) challenging content.
What was it about the guild that you did not like? Regardless though, you can always try other guilds until you find one that suits your needs whatever that might be.
(edited by Silvatar.5379)
If bots are only prevalent at nodes (and I am not saying they are) its because of how well Anet has designed the game to make bots somewhat ineffectual (on top of all the other security measures). Some specific events however are not the only option for farming or how bots could exploit the game mechanics which is why the suggestion to completely remove DR is such a bad idea.
Now, if some specific, isolated aspects of the game or certain events are an issue then that is something that could possibly be addressed but that unfortunately is not where the op went with his post.
(edited by Silvatar.5379)
It’s time to completely remove DR from the game.
Not sure what was going on to grief you but if you enjoy playing this game at all, you do not!!! want DR removed unless you prefer playing an MMO where you are the only human player and all the other characters are bots, AND you want the economy to completely crash.

I love the sound. If they added coconut clapping sound hoof stomps while I ran, I would be so happy.
+1 LMAO
Nice reference work
Yes another thread about the same topic. But I think we must get someone’s attention if we keep on posting the same on and on. Long story short:
- They nerf dungeon rewards to stop elitism but bring raids that are ten times more elitist than any dungeon run (at least in dungeons you could succeed after a lot of time with a mediocre group. Some of us liked to teach newbies to run dungeons, that’s not an option in raids).
- Goldsink, goldsink everywhere. Devs have to face that the economy won’t comeback as it once was and most people won’t be buying gems to convert to gold… Except a few special ones.
- New maps and Meta events are boring, fun of exploration and discovery is gone when you have to depend on a zerg and other people to succeed.
- Specializations are nice but it seems they’re just a buff to core classes, forcing players who chose not to buy HoT get it to be competitive.
Is the game migrating from its original, fresh and lovely business model to a PAY TO WIN model? The answer is yes, yes and yes.
What’s left to do? I won’t quit (don’t come here asking for my stuff) I log to do the PvP daily and I know that’s the sanctuary of a lot of veteran players. Not spending gold because since HoT it became more valuable than air. I f anyone has suggestions to get me into track I’ll be glad to hear them, I just can’t enjoy the game since the expansion came out.
1. They did not nerf dungeon rewards to stop elitism.
2. Every MMO has and needs gold sinks. Can you imagine if it didn’t?!!!! GW2 has actually done reasonably well to keep the economy fairly stable for a game that is over 3 years old. While some end game stuff needed only for the most hard-core player (ie. high level fracs) has definitely gone up, most things necessary to play, enjoy and be competitive in most game modes are still very affordable to even the most casual player.
3. You personally might find the new maps boring and too hard to solo, but that is purely a subjective opinion and a learn-to-play issue for the most part. Every good MMO has some champs/bosses that need a group/party/zerg to kill. Nothing wrong with having a balance of some maps that are solo friendly and some that are party-orientated.
4. Agreed, I am strongly against forms of power-creep that divide the community into the “haves” and “have-nots”. The implementation strategy for specializations was a clear means of pressuring players into forking out cash for HoT.
5. With the one exception of having to purchase Hot to get specializations, I strongly disagree that this is a pay-to-win model. Go play some other “free” MMO’s on the market and you will understand what “pay-to-win” really means. With GW2, anyone who buys the base-game/expansion can easily enjoy and be reasonably competitive in any game mode with casual playing time without spending more rl money. If you have the expansion, its still a “play-to-win” game.
The problem is that Anet has no intention or desire to “save” dungeons.
If the issue was simply too much gold influx into the game they could have easily fixed this by reducing or eliminating the gold reward and replacing it with salvageable loot. For example, the end reward could be based on the difficulty of the dungeon and the path:
CoF p1 = 4 bags of masterwork gear and 1 bag of rare gear
CoF p2 = 6 bags of masterwork gear and 1 bag of rear gear
CoF p3 = 8 bags of masterwork gear and 2 bags of rare gear
(These are just hypothetical examples)
However, gold influx was clearly not the issue for Anet, they just wanted to “kill” dungeons so people would stop playing them. I have enjoyed playing GW2 since day 1 but as a dungeon lover, this change has been the one thing that keeps me on the fence wondering if I actually still want to play this game
PS: Try not to throw the hate on the guy who decided it was a good idea to craft right when he woke up. =D.
Are you sure you were awake? Maybe it was just a nightmare….I have had that same one
0.0
3. Ya i am not really into PvP at all i tried the map a couple of times and was quickly disinterested in knocking down walls and getting crushed by people who play all the time. By Zerk armor is that short for Berserker? i feel like i am missing something critical when people refer to it i haven’t found anything that is listed as berserker armor in the wiki armor types for my race. I want to know what it looks like etc.
4. Ok so i understand that red circles are bad and i should dodge what i do not understand is if i cant get out of the circle even through dodging. Why would i dodge why does it matter? There was one boss in CoE that we stacked in a corner and had AoEs spammed all over us i died and they did not how and why?
3. It sounds like you were in WvW. You can get exotic gear with badges earned in WvW but what I was referring to is PvP (WvW and PvP are completely different game modes). In PvP there is a reward track that you choose, then, after you select a rewards track, you go to a PvP room to fight a small group of people. If you are like me and don’t like PvP, you can select the room called “Dailies room, no trolling” (or something like that, I forget the exact wording). There is no fighting in this room, people only go there to do the dailies and to collect the track rewards – no fighting required (easiest way to get exotic gear by just standing around…literally).
4. I am pretty sure your confusion is in regards to fighting Alpha in the dungeon CoE. When fighting Alpha, you can stay in the red circles and take no damage but its all about timing. You probably saw red circles, dodged, and then took damage…..that is because you dodged too soon. With Alpha, when you see red circles, you count “1…2…3…dodge” , and then you take no damage even if you are still in the red circles.
(edited by Silvatar.5379)
LOL
Bookmarked.
I can answer a few of those questions:
1. Condi is a condition build meaning you use armor that has condition damage and trait your skills to maximize that damage
2. no idea why you cant buy things off of the TP if you have bought the game. But buying rare gear off the TP is a good way to get yourself ready for dungeons. You can get most rare armor pieces for as little as 30-40 silver (look for the cheapest prices) so its in your budget (soldiers is a good learner’s set)
3. you need a lot more karma than that for a full exotic set. I suggest you do 2 things: Firstly start running CoF p1 and p2 daily for tokens (Citadel of Flame is easier and shorter that Crucible of Eternity). Then use those tokens to buy zerk exotic armor at the npc. Secondly, do the pvp dailies each day and select one of the reward tracks that unlock zerk exotic armor (like the CoF or CoE or Arah reward tracks). If you do not like pvp, find the pvp daily room where no one fights (that is where I often go as I hate pvp). By doing the pvp dailies each day and running CoF p1 andp2 each day will get you a full set of exotic armor and some weapons in a week or so completely FREE.
4. Rule of thumb: if you see red circles – dodge!! lol (if this is about the boss Alpha in CoE then you need to count to 2 or 3 BEFORE you dodge or you will dodge too soon. The timing for Alpha is important).
(edited by Silvatar.5379)
Ummm…. kinda difficult to think of what might suit all of your needs in one character but the best I can think of might be a warrior.
You seem to have 3 main criteria (correct me if I am wrong):
1. high damage for pve
2. survivability in pvp/wvw
3. easier to play
A dsp build warrior is always welcome in dungeons/fractals/raids; warriors are more forgiving if your reactions are not up there with the “1%” of players thanks to better vit and toughness; and, you can re-spec/re-gear your warrior to tank in wvw to soak up the damage for your party while they dps. Anyways, maybe someone else might have some ideas.
Dungeon running is one of my favorite things to do in the game, and I would encourage you to give it another try. But before you do, it definitely sounds like you might want to do a few things first.
1. Get more practice playing your class (like maybe working on your personal story). Check out sites for build ideas like the elemental section of the forum or MetaBattle. People rely on you in group-play so get to know your skills, utilities, and builds a bit better.
2. Get better armour. Rare (yellow) gear is sufficient for dungeons. You can buy some cheap off of the trading post. I suggest something with toughness and/or vitality to help you stay alive while learning.
3. Watch a youtube vid of the dungeon path you plan on running before you go so you know what to do.
4. Try an easier dungeon to start with like maybe CoF p1 (Citadel of Flame path1). People still run CoF p1 so you should be able to find a party without much difficulty. Just let them know its your first time. Most people will be polite enough to provide some guidance as you go. If they kick you, you probably dont want to run with jerks in the first place lol.
To answer your question, you can get exotic gear from npcs in level 80 maps with karma; from WvW npcs with badges; from pvp track rewards; from dungeons using dungeon tokens; or buying it off of the TP. I got most of mine with dungeon tokens from running CoF p1 and p2 most days.

HoT has been out for less than a month. Its wayyyy!!!! to early to condemn the new WvW. A lot of people (such as myself) are still spending our limited gaming time completing the new maps, leveling masteries, getting HP’s for characters so that they can upgrade to the new builds, collecting the new achievement points, collecting the new skins, etc.
Give people a chance to get stuff done, to learn the new maps, get bored of the new content, and to return to their old habits of hitting WvW for some pvp fun. If that doesn’t happen, THEN threads like this might have some merit but give it some time :/
(edited by Silvatar.5379)
If you are asking if 1 sigil of force and 1 sigil of accuracy stack together then yes, they do.
If you are asking if sigils of force stack OR sigils of accuracy stack so that you can get 10% damage or 14% precision then no, they don’t.
some suggestions i would offer up would be
1. make legendary items a upgrade to ascended gear (a sizable upgrade)
2. make mounts (other cosmetic stuff that could be used as rewards to make it feel like what youre doing is worth your time)
3. Make Lots more gear and weapon skins!
4. Remove restrictions on cosmetic system, so you can use the skin of any armor type (for more customization)
5. Stop making everything with butterfly wings, fairy dust, rainbows and flowers (there is clearly enough of this crap in the game )
6. Lower the amount of xp needed per mastery level
7. make an option to sub , and give monthly rewards to subs, plus make transmogrify free to subs
1. No, power creep in MMO’s is NOT in a player’s best interest (power creep only helps those with more money than common sense).
2. I liked mounts in my last MMO and would love to see them in GW2 but they are not really needed and its an issue that has been beaten to death.
3. ummmmm….have you even looked at the wardrobe for GW2? More skins is not a bad idea but GW2 already has more skins than most games.
4. Most skins can be mix-matched already. There are only a small number that cant which, from my understanding, is a cost-benefit issue (Anet has better things to spend time/resources on than cutting every skin to match everyone other one considering how many freakin’ skins already exist.)
5. Everyone has different tastes. If you don’t like something, that is fine, don’t use it but why complain about it? (This might come as a shock but women play this game as well,… hell, I am a guy and I think its hilarious to kill players with flowers and unicorns).
6. I don’t like the amount of xp either but I am ok with it as every MMO needs time sinks. Besides, you get xp doing anything so it does not affect my game play anyways.
7. HELL NO. This would only further the divide between the “haves” and the “have-nots” which is never good for a gaming community and its longevity. If you personally want to spend more money for more/better stuff you can ALREADY do that. Just turn gems into gold and buy everything you want, no need for subs to achieve what you are suggesting :/
(edited by Silvatar.5379)
Some people enjoy making their own gear as they level…and I respect that. But GW2 is not really designed to make that easy or even necessary. The only reason for leveling crafting imo is to make ascended/legendary gear for your “end-game” play or to make certain items to sell on the trading post to make money.
In other words, I would not worry too much about crafting at your level, just enjoy the game, use whatever gear drops you get (or buy some cheap green gear off of the TP) and just level crafting as it becomes convenient to do so otherwise trying to keep your crafting level on par with your character level will keep you in a constant state of poverty lol.
In addition to what everyone else has already said……
You might like to check this thread out: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/players/OMG-If-you-only-knew-this-tips-for-new-players
Some of the info is outdated now, but as a “new guy”, you might find it useful. I know I did. Have fun gaming!
Posting a link for the you tube video might help to get more replies as people (like me) are too lazy to find it for themselves.
GW2 is very much a self-directed game. I suggest trying everything at least once to discover what it is you enjoy doing most. However, if you don’t already have exotic gear for your 80, that might be a good first step. You can get that by doing pvp reward tracks, farming gold and buying it from the TP, buying it from npcs with karma, buying it in wvw with badges, or farming a dungeon and buying it with tokens.
^ what he said. Find yourself a good ktrain in EoTM, pop some exp boosters, and watch the levels go by while you rake-in karma and champ bags (crafting is obviously faster though if you have the money to spare).
Don’t stress about losing anything because you wont. Just keep that thief for B-days, crafting, and storage. Put him to work by parking him at the end of a jp or rich node to farm each day while you play with another character. Like you say, if you pick another medium class, the characters can just share everything so you don’t have much work to do aside from leveling. If you decide to go with a light or heavy class, getting exotic armor is relatively easy and fast so no worries there either. Think of this as an opportunity to expand your gaming experience, good times!!
You might have better luck finding what you want under the “Looking for…” section of the forum. In fact, I anticipate a Mod moving this thread there in 3….2……1….

I’m sure ANet did their research, but I’m frankly staggered that making the starter maps more boring actually improves retention. I started as a sylvari, and the dog heart, followed by golem chess in Rata Sum made the world feel so full of possibilities.
Between this and moving all the activities to LA on rotation (no longer actually going to the keg brawl field to play), Tyria just doesn’t feel as alive as it used to.
+1
I just happened to be by the RC Golem’s chess game the other day and stopped there to have a couple games out of a sense of nostalgia. I remember coming across golem chess game as a new player when GW2 first came out, and I thought to myself at the time how cool it was for Anet to integrate all these little mini-games and variations in play style for us to discover and experience. Thus, I was extremely disappointed to learn that the RC golems had been removed.
I then I went over to the cave near the RC golems where the heart quest use to transform you into a golem to “disrupt” the ground and kill the mobs but that TOO is gone. Now to learn that the dog transformation is gone as well!?! …..All of these things little, unexpected things made playing the game as a new player very exciting to me as it enhanced my anticipation and stirred my imagination of what-was-to-come as I continued my progression in the game. I looked forward to, “what would I discover next”.
I would like to see the research/findings that supported the discussion to removed these minor gaming elements as I too find it completely baffling and disappointing to learn of their removal
Yes…or I would be if I had the time and could find a party.
Sure, its not as profitable as before but you still get tokens, drops, chests, a modest reward, and the “entertainment-factor” has not changed for me.
Looks about the same as I typically get.
Most MMO’s have something similar to this in their boutique. Just be grateful that GW2 does not put anything important for game-play in these chests. The last MMO that I played put just about everything essential to end-game competition behind RNG items purchased from their boutique. People would spend literally thousands of dollars trying to finish their end-game gear so that they could just stay competitive in the game :/
Are you working on your personal story as well? It did not sound like it from your original post. Doing your personal story will get you some decent exp and useful rewards (if you do them at level). Following the personal story will also help direct you around the entire map.
Rather than trying to be a jack-of-all trades (and master of none) with one set that takes a middle-of-the-road approach, I personally like to have one dsp set (zerk) and one support set (such as cleric or soldier). The ability to swap your gear anytime (ooc), means you can go full dps, full support, or a mix of the two anytime as the situation requires it.
The vast majority of the time (for group pve), I simply use full zerk gear with a sight tweak to my build to provide a little extra group support with my virtues (more aegis, more cleanse). If I anticipate a tough fight, the only thing I usually swap out is my GS for a cleric hammer which is often enough to provide that little bit of extra protection/healing for me and the group to survive.
With the new content and raids however, I anticipate the need to use my support gear a bit more often which is fine as I always feel prepared for anything with these two sets at hand.
Events give the most XP but really pretty much everything in this game gives XP – exploring, rezzing, mining/harvesting, killing mobs, dailies, etc.
Yup, but it takes long and I’ve explored 43% of Tyria with 2 characters already :/ Doing the hearts over and over and over and over again gets TIRESOME, considering I leveled up all my alts (save for this new Ranger who is lvl 5, my 70 Reve and 65 Guardian) to 25 makes it a chore…
As others have said, Tomes of Knowledge are the fastest way to level (instant exp). However, if you are looking to supplement this with other activities, and you are tired of general pve play, maybe give Edge of the Mists (EoTM) a try.
With a good zerg and commander to follow, you can level super fast in EoTM, especially if you pop some exp boosters. However, I should mention that with the new content, not a lot of people are doing wvw right now so you might have problems finding a good zerg/commander. At the very least, trying something different might increase the entertainment value of the game for a while.
I really don’t understand why the OP doesn’t simply just block someone they are offended by.
This
Because everyone, including you, should be able to enjoy the game without being harassed or verbally abused by people who are blatantly breaking the TOS. If increasing numbers of people are so quick to dismiss the TOS, to which they agreed to abide by, then perhaps its time for Anet to strengthen its enforcement and enhance potential punishments along the lines of what the OP is suggesting (other options are possible).
For all those that are saying, “block and report”, I agree with this course of action but to suggest that the OP needs to “man-up”, you seem to be confused. A “real man” does not remain silent when he sees something wrong happening (like bullying), a “real man” takes action to improve the situation. A popular phase/quote comes to mind:
“The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men should do nothing.”
By creating this thread, perhaps the OP might contribute to raising the awareness of Anet to this issue (if indeed bullying is happening more often in the game which I can not confirm or refute).
To those saying “get over it”….
Players that spent 100/300 gold to get a commander tag have every right to be kittened-off, and frankly they SHOULD be kittened-off. Anet just introduced a new element to the game that renders the ownership of a commander tag completely and utterly superfluous. Many people such as myself spend a considerable amount of our limited gaming time working towards purchasing that tag so that we could better serve our guilds and servers (like in WvW). Now that mentor tags are available, everyone gets a tag for free as a simple by-product of playing the game (no additional investment required), where as paying 300 gold to get one represented a considerable sacrifice. No one with any common sense would have wasted 100/300 gold on a tag if they knew they were going to get one for free.
As I stated though, this WHOLE problem exists because there is no meaningful distinction in the functionality of the mentor and commander tags. What Anet should have done was to imbue them both with inherent value by giving them different uses. I don’t necessarily think the OP suggestion is the best option but he is on the right track in searching for ways to make both tags meaningful.
Every MMO has its faults and challenges, but I agree 100% with the OP.
I never played Polymock from GW1, but after reading about it (http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Polymock), I now want to try it!
FYI: The reference in the thread title brought me here.
To further this conversation….
I already have full ascended zerk build that I use most of the time, however with the new content, raids coming, wanting to support in wvw, and the desire to be able to stay alive while carrying a weak party through high level fractals, I was thinking of making a second ascended set and was wondering what other guardians are using as their “back-up” support build.
I was considering cleric’s but was wondering if magi might be better to take advantage of better crit proc’s in a support build. Or is cele the way to go?
I would agree with Dilligaf, I think that with the nerf to maize balm farming that prices will only go up until the next Halloween event….but then market speculation is just that…speculation. You never know if or when Anet might alter some aspect of the game to affect the demand and supply of a particular item.
Edit: In fact, I would not be surprised in the least if the recent rise in ToT prices is not partially the result of some TP players anticipating a general increase in value of this item as its scarcity increases over the coming months, and are buying up stock to horde.
(edited by Silvatar.5379)
So this question has been asked before but with the increase in the number of possible character slots, I am curious to learn whether anyone actually has 69 characters now. I am also assuming that with the passage of time, people may have created more alts so I anticipate some changes from last time this got asked.
Bonus question: What is your main?
Personally, I have 10 characters – one of each profession and one mule (a retired character that I just couldn’t bring myself to delete). My current main is a guardian.
(edited by Silvatar.5379)
No, you are not missing anything. It will take a long time for a candy corn node to pay for itself if you purchased it for 5 cobs.
The one thing that some people do is to open their home instance to others to farm in exchange for tips which can help generate more income to help replenish the cost of a home node. However, it is generally expected that the person would have all or most of the home instance nodes if they are opening it up for others to farm for tips otherwise it is kind of a waste of time for everyone involved.
(edited by Silvatar.5379)
@OP
I opened over 1000 ToT bags as well and only thing I got was one weapon skin worth a little over 2 gold. You are not alone but meh, that’s RNG …and why I don’t use the mystic toilet.
If you had the scythe staff skin https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Scythe_Staff_Skin , it would definitely be reaper all the way. But your weapon skin in the pics go best with the vampire…..so I guess vampire wins out.
I am guessing this is it?

Edit: Oh, but you already found this sorry, I got nothin’
No family member gets left off the GW2 bandwagon, eh? lol
Pretty cool! As someone who use to collect stamps, I appreciate the charr collar.
Edit: …and ya, I just necro’ed a post 7 days old but it deserved some recognition
