Why GW2 End Game is Good

+1 OP

So many people migrate here from other MMO’s with preconceived exceptions of “end-game” content (which they cling to) that they just don’t understand what GW2 has attempted to provide for its community. Thanks for the post.

Being able to see all my characters on the screen at the same time would be awesome. This is my main issue with the current layout. The other changes you suggest are great as well. Hopefully someone from Anet will see this.

Ever remake a class of a different race?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Silvatar.5379

Silvatar.5379

Yes, I deleted a level 80 warrior and a level 80 engi to change their race. It was a hard decision to make but fortunately I had not done much with either character besides level them so it was not a big loss.

I also use to play a norn guardian, however, I hated playing as a norn so I made a human guardian which quickly became my main. I decided to keep the norn guardian though since I almost had world map completion done on him as well 2 crafting professions maxed out. He now stands guard in LA as my pack mule and crafter :/

I think its a great idea, however, there is already an event that the GW2 community is organizing for this occasion (with the support of Anet). Perhaps you might like to get in touch with the current organizers to collaborate together and coordinate your efforts. I am sure they would appreciate any and all support.

What do you guys think about Dungeon Sellers?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Silvatar.5379

Silvatar.5379

I am absolutely against dungeon selling though it is only fair to say that my opinion is heavily biased as a result of my last MMO which became so infested with “dungeon” selling that it nearly killed the game itself. The ripple effects on the community as a whole were devastating. I don’t see dungeon selling becoming nearly as problematic for GW2 as my previous MMO but anyone that says selling dungeons (or the equivalent) is “fine” has no idea what they are talking about ….or perhaps they just don’t care about the detrimental impact it has on fostering an active, engaged, knowledgeable, supportive, and experienced player base that will enjoy and continue playing the game.

EOTM Sexually abusive map chat

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Silvatar.5379

During the past week myself and other female players have been subject to disgusting and very abusive map chat and harassment(mostly in eotm). I have made some reports (as others have) but wanted to post here too (without names). How in the world would anyone think it appropriate to discuss sexual things and some rather perverted and abusive sexual things in map chat? This needs to end fast as we do have minors playing the game with us!

+1
As someone else mentioned, be sure to take a screenshot too, particularly if this happens again with the same person/people. From my experience, GW2 has a pretty good community, certainly better than many other MMO’s. But unfortunately, I too have witnessed this kind of unacceptable behaviour. I am sorry that you had to experience that and hope that it will not tarnish your opinion of the GW2 community as a whole.

Snip
right now I can do nothing but grind an estimate of 3000 to 4,500 level 16-22 monsters till I reach level 25 so I can go on to the next area (Gendarran Fields).

There is no need to grind mobs for levels in this game. This is the absolute slowest way to level when there are numerous alternatives.

The first place I would suggest, as a new player, is to work on your personal story. This will make leveling relatively smooth, fast, and interesting while introducing you to the lore of the game. Supplement this with exploring the maps and doing heart quests

Snip

I have two 100% experience boosters but I’m afraid to use them atm because I’m not sure I’m playing the game right.

I would suggest saving your exp boosters for power leveling alts later in the Edge of the Mists. Going to the Edge of the Mists with exp boosters and jumping on a ktrain (karma/exp train) is arguably the fastest way to level (if you don’t count Tomes of Knowledge and exp scrolls which are automatic exp). I don’t recommend this way of leveling for your first character though as you miss out on……well, everything :/

Just started playing GW2 need help?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Silvatar.5379

Silvatar.5379

I see this question about “end-game content” frequently on the forums which is to be expected as most MMO’s are designed for some general linear progress through content that becomes increasingly more difficult with rewards structured accordingly to encourage this progression. However, the beauty of GW2 is that virtually ALL content is end-game content.

If you wanted to re-phrase the question as, “what is the hardest content to complete in GW2” then the answer would probably be level 50 Fractals or solo’ing dungeons. However, you could always start on Fractals before you ever finish such basic things as your personal story, or before getting map completion done. Or, you could start pvp’ing or hitting wvw on your very first day if you wanted. Dungeons can be started at just about any level as long as you are looking for a challenge or have some experienced support.

The point being, it is best to approach this game as an open playing field – give everything a try, and pursue whatever it is you want to achieve and enjoy most.

Please help deciding class

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Silvatar.5379

Silvatar.5379

Based on the information that you have provided above, I would definitely suggest going with a ranger using long bow and a short bow so that you can always stay at range while using pets with lots of health to tank for you such as bears or drakes.

When fighting, send in your pet first and start your attack using bow skills that cause cripple and condition damage first followed up by more aggressive damage skills to finish off the mob. If your pet looses aggro, just kite around the mob hitting it when you can while your pet finishes it off.

Here is a possible build for you down below that is NOT meta. It offers a balance of damage and survivability. Be sure to swap your pets and weapons often to gain fury, swiftness, and might during combat. Also, try not to dodge so that you keep the 10% damage bonus. Since the idea is to stay at range, you should be able to just kite around without having to dodge too much. To remove conditions on yourself, use the healing spring or your brown bear skill “shake it off”.

Lastly, be sure to select gear with some survival stats on it like soldiers, dire, or carrion. However, if you find that you are able to stay at range without getting hit successfully, you might like to try some gear with more damage output.

Hi All,

I am brand new to this game.
Would appreciate a lot if someone can help me out with these questions.
I bought 99.99 edition and it came with a lot of goodies + 4000gems.

a) Which class is the best ranged damage class in GW2 with heavy dmg + reasonable surivivability ?.
I am currently at level 4 with elementalist profession (human)
Is my choice correct ?

b) Which class is the best solo class for playing and leveling ?.
I am currently at level 3 with sylvari ranger profession.
Is this prof good solo class ?
Is this prof comparable to hunter of wow (pet taunting/tanking+hunter dpsing) ?

a) “Which class is the best ranged damage class in GW2 with heavy dmg + reasonable surivivability ?.”

Answer: Staff ele

b)“Which class is the best solo class for playing and leveling ?”

Answer: Which ever class you find to be the most fun…and yes, I am being serious, any class can be used to solo most of the content so just find one that you enjoy.

Help regarding map coverage

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Silvatar.5379

Silvatar.5379

Well….there is no “required” list of places to go. This game is very self-directed in the sense that it is an open play ground for gamers to simply do whatever it is they enjoy most. So I would suggest just letting the winds-of-fate decide for you where to go next (or go wherever it looks most interesting to you).

However, if you really! want some options presented to you, you could take a look at the Hero panel under “Achievements” and work on the list of “Jumping Puzzles” and the “Explorer” achievements. Both of these lists will take you to a lot of fun, challenging, and hidden areas of the world.

Best places for 2 players to go?

in Players Helping Players

I wish I had more ideas to share with you but the one thing that I can think of not already mentioned would be to take a look at the game objectives listed in the Hero panel under “Achievements” > “General” > “Explorer”, and work through the explorer achievements with your buddy. These achievements will take you to some really fun, challenging areas that are easy to miss if you don’t know about them.

FYI: If you need guidance with any of the achievements, most can be found on Youtube.

For a first set of exo armor, get yourself a nice Berserker set doesn’t matter what class/profession you play

This. What Neyensb is implying in a general manner here is that you can not go wrong with a set of zerk gear as it is ideal for generating pure dps in pve content regardless of class. If you are interested in min/max’ing for specific encounters and non-pve content then that is a much more complicated issue but as a new player with very little money looking to get his first exotic set of gear in a relatively quick and easy way I would suggest this:

1) Buy yourself a set of rare gear from the TP (assuming you don’t already have some) with a balance of power and survivability. Rare armour is affordable and you can salvage it when you are done with it for ectos to recover a good portion of your money.
2) Next, start running CoF p1 and p2 once a day for the next week or so. You can do p3 too if time is not an issue but its longer and can be frustrating with an inexperienced party.
3) After a week or so you will have enough tokens to purchase a full set of exotic zerker gear, and the gold you make from running the dungeon can be used to buy some decent runes for your armour (win-win).

This might not technically be the fastest way of getting a set of exotic gear but it is arguably the most time-efficent and easiest way to do it for the average player with limited time to play GW2 and without spending real-life money. As you get more into the game you may eventually want to min-max your gear for more specific encounters or to better match your play-style as it evolves but a set of zerk gear is something that you will not regret having in your ars(enal).

Edit: Had to use brackets to break up the word ars(enal) since the forum wants to censor this word if I don’t :/

@ OP

This is an honest attempt to respectfully reply to your post without trolling, though you make it very hard to resist the desire to do so.

Firstly, you are correct in saying that everyone has a right to enjoy playing the game how they choose as long as they are not infringing upon the rights of others. What you seem to be forgetting however, is that everyone also has the right to choose who they want to spend their time playing the game with which is (one reason) why I am baffled by your post.

If you end up in a party with a person whom you do not enjoy playing with because of how they play their character, you have a variety of mature responses to select from: 1) just make a quick and dignified exit by stating that you have to go while thanking them on the way out; 2) just finish the run, thank them for their time, and add them to your block list so that you know not to run with them again in the future; 3) or better yet, you could even make the effort to help them to improve their game by whispering them (don’t use public chat) and present them with your knowledge about the game in a respectful tone, making it clear that you are not trying to “tell” them how to play as people do not respond well to being “told” what to do (in this context).

Lastly, I think you need to keep in mind that many people simply don’t take video games as seriously as you clear do. Many are just logging on to mess around for a bit of fun, and could not care less if they are doing things in the most optimal manner possible. Also, keep in mind that if you are pugging, you may be playing with people who are just starting to learn the dungeon and thus, are not aware of the dungeon’s mechanics or may not be use to playing as part of a group. Even if their AP is high, it does not necessarily mean that they have a history of running dungeons. In addition, some players may have some form of person challenge that makes playing the game far more difficult for them than it is for you such as a vision impairment, motor deterioration, mental health issues, age, excreta. For example, I use to play with a guy that only had one arm. To summarize, you have to understand and accept that not everyone is going to be capable of, or have the motivation, to play the game at your skill level. No amount of raging will change this fact. Either learn to accept people for who they are and help them become better players in a respectful way, or just respectfully decline to play with them.

New player deciding on my class

Silvatar.5379

Firstly, welcome to the game. I am glad that you are enjoying it. I started at release and I am still having fun with it so hopefully it will have some longevity with you too.

snip……
It’s funny though my normal play style is tradtional healer priest. I am thinking a staff guardian, or a water elementalist would be good.

Like you, I was use to playing a cleric before I started GW2 and, as a consequence, I decided to start an ele as my first character as the description of them and their skills appeared to be the closest thing to a cleric. However, after having tried all the classes, I think guardian is the closest thing to playing a “support” class in GW2 as they have great utility for group content. Keep in mind though that there is no trinity, its just that some classes are a little better equipped than others for certain roles. Thus, it really comes down to whatever class appeals to you most and how you choose to build it. In regards to your comment about playing a staff guardian, you will not want to use staff very often. It is a VERY situational weapon used mainly for just tagging mobs to get loot or for providing your party with speed and might when you are not in combat.

If you had perhaps more specific criteria to base your decision on, I am sure people could offer some further insight to help you find what you are after. In any case, good luck and have fun.

Keep in mind that you can join up to 5 different guilds (though you can only represent one at a time). You can also leave guilds if they are not what you are looking for so don’t be ‘shy’ to explore multiple guilds to find some that best suit your needs.

is legendary armour a new tier or not ?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Silvatar.5379

Silvatar.5379

I think I may have a happy compromise for the original poster, thefinnster, and for ….well….the entire rest of the GW2 community. It’s not a new tier in terms of statistics, but it could be perceived as a new tier in terms of “convenience”, because that is all that legendary armour offers…..a more convenient way to change stats.

One reason why I love GW2 is that it is arguably one of the best MMO’s around to successfully control power creep within their game to create a “relatively” level playing field for all of its gamers (please understand the concept of “relative” before attempting to troll me on that last passage). While I imagine that making a set of legendary armour will be as time consuming (if not more so) than a legendary weapon, I am okay with this as legendary items are NOT something that a player has to have to enjoy the game or to even be competitive in either pve or pvp. Every MMO needs to create some form of enticement for players to continue playing the game. Creating more content is of course one means of doing so but this option is limited by extreme resource costs (financial and otherwise) which is why all MMO’s (that I have see) introduce things similar to legendary items which will keep players occupied with goals to achieve and thus, keep coming back and playing their game. Most MMO’s resort to using power creep to do this (as well as to make more money) but so far GW2 has managed well to control power creep. Instead of QQ’ing about legendary armour being introduced thefinnster, you should be giving prop’s to the GW2 development team.

Rabid Builds

Unfortunately, I am not aware of any ideal builds for a weapon with rabid stats. However, don’t despair if you can’t find one yourself as you have the option of simply transforming the weapon into a new one with whatever stats you want by using the “Anthology of Heroes” from Miyani. For example, I got an ascended weapon chest with rampager stats which I did not need so after selecting the type of weapon I wanted (staff), I changed it from a rampager weapon to a bezerker weapon. The process is relatively cheap and easy to do.

It’s only “4fun”, but do the same things all the time isn’t that fun…

WvW, its a competitive in theory, so, win it’s the point!
PVP, same thing!

Just to know…..
Why you OP play PVP

There is no point for me….
You play to farm nothing worth while, but you can also just buy better stuff with real money and no effort….
Also, there are ONLY 8 different types of mobs and ONLY several tiny maps. PVP have no variety of content.
It’s only “4fun”, but do the same things all the time isn’t that fun…

Thanks again for the reply!

Things have certainly changed, why exactly is silk more expensive than gossamer these days?

I did the whole meta event in Silverwastes and figured out most of how the zone works, though I missed my chance at going into the Hidden depths with these nightmare keys.

To confirm:
-rare items use a master/mystic kit on unless sell is > 30 silver
-non-rare cloth use a basic kit
-blue/green heavy/medium use a fine kit
-white items?
-weapons?
- Should I throw anything in the mystic forge? I haven’t used it in forever.

Thanks again!

Ya, sorry, I should have elaborated that it is a good idea to always check the value of an item before you actually salvage it. Personally, I place rares in the TP if they are worth more than 35 silver. I sell every exotic on the TP unless I don’t have the skin yet or if the sigil is worth more independent of the item in which case I use a Black Lion Kit on it to sell the sigil separately and get extra mats). I will even sell bue/green items on the TP if they are worth more than 3.5-4.5 silver. It all adds up.

Thanks for the response Hennrick

I’m a little confused though, why would I farm platinum/hardwood in a 60 zone instead of the level 80 materials (orichalcum, ancient wood, etc)?

Reply: I am not sure of current prices for everything but the level of the material is not always directly related to its value. Just look on the TP to see what is currently in demand (worth the most) and farm the zones in which they are located (which may or may not be level 80 zones).

Should I be salvaging level 75+ gear with Basic kits or something better for a higher chance at better materials?

Reply: The consensus is, or use to be, (if it has changed I would love to hear about it ) is to just use basic or crude kits for white/blue/green items as the most cost effective approach, Master kits for rare and exotic, and Black Lion kits for anything with a valuable sigil in it.

When events and world bosses aren’t around does it make more sense to kill mobs or just look for nodes (keeping in mind the decreased loot etc)?

Reply: Look for nodes, kill mobs only if they are in your way. Switch characters or go do something else for gold after a couple hours. DR in open world is apparently character specific.

Any suggestions on a rough spec for either of my two 80s? Based on the gear they have of course and for the purpose of farming ease.

Reply: Check out the profession section on the forum or MetaBattle.com for builds. For open world pve though you will want to just simply max out dps. Also, don’t brush off dungeon runs. They offer a decent reward/time investment without being “AS” monotonous as Silverwastes or node farming (imo). You never know what you will get with each group. Take a positive, helpful, friendly attitude and it can be a great way to met people and make friends. And no, I am not trolling, this comes from my experience of running well over 1k runs, most of which have been with random groups. Just stay away from those types of people/groups that care more about a video game than how they treat another real, live human being.

Thanks again!

being reasonably simple to play (basically – not ele, dislike!) – warrior

Can I play as a support?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Silvatar.5379

Silvatar.5379

If you like playing a support role, I suggest rolling a Guardian. Most of the time as Guardian you can just use a meta dsp build and dish out some decent damage but there are times when the dynamics of a party, for whatever reason, may not work out and subsequently require more support. As a guardian, you can do just that. Guardians by default already have good team support skills but by tweaking your build, Guardians can really carry a struggling party through a dungeon or fractal better than any other class (imo).

Edit: also, to answer your question more directly, I don’t recommend on “just” focusing on a support role. Rather, I would suggest that a quality player is one that knows how and when to adjust their character according to the needs of the situation whether that means more support, more dps, more condition, more whatever. Committing your character to just one role only is not a good idea in general.

Even if I am running story again (for whatever reason), I expect people will want to take their time and make the most of the experience so I come prepared for a slow(er) run than I would expect in Explorer mode.

It is only in Explorer mode where people are doing the same path for the “hundredth” time that people, understandably, what to do things as quick and efficient as possible.

5. If you are big on role-playing consider Tarnished Coast (from what I have heard).
6. If none of the above apply, then pick the server that has the name you like best because it does not matter.

Oh, and if you ever want to change servers in the future, it is possible so don’t worry too much about it.

There is this too: http://gw2.guildex.org/guilds

However, most of the entries are old and outdated but maybe it will help present some options….“it’s over 9000” (no, seriously, it is).

What an awesome birthday present!! So creative.

I have seen people making quaggan cake (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/community/creations/Quaggan-Cake), qauggan costums (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/community/creations/Baby-quaggan-costume/first#post4715360), and quaggan backpacks (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/community/creations/Cosplay-of-GW2-OC-with-Quaggan-backpack/first#post4474873).

Your quaggan definitely ranks up there with the best.

Lots of great pics but that is particularly well done zcearo. Love all the birds in the background as it conveys a story behind your character…a dream to fly.

Thank you Guild Wars 2 staff.

Thanks for making this thread! It is such a nice change to read a post by someone who enjoys and appreciates the game as much as I do. All the best to you and your mother.

End of the semester for me so I am rather busy atm but once that is done, I will be on more frequently if you are wanting people to play with or are looking for mutual assistance. Like you, I find games more enjoyable/entertaining when playing with other people. I do a lot of dungeons so I am always up for that if you are farming tokens or whatever….and I am happy to run with anyone regardless of their build/gear/level/skills. I don’t care about the quality of a person’s in-game character, I only care about the quality of their real-life character.

Hilarious April Fool’s joke. Amazing job guys! I would love it if the old film effect could be added as an optional control feature so that we could use it to take screenshots whenever we wanted. Would be sweet!!

ikr! lol

People are fine with playing a video game that involves basically nothing else but simulated killing……and yet its a fun, benign April fool’s joke that suddenly turns everyone into a moral entrepreneur……absolutely unbelievable.

The most offensive thing is the level of people’s hypocrisy.

This is just a simple – and, for many of us – enjoyable April Fools Day joke. For posters on this forum to try and associate it in any way with the recent tragedy is insulting and inflammatory, at minimum.

It is really easy to draw lines between things that, in reality, have nothing to do with each other. For example, different races fight against each other every day in GW2 pvp, but I don’t think anyone sees that as a statement about, or allusion to, racial strife in the real world.

I think we are seeing a lot of these posts because people don’t like the joke (which is okay) but realize simply stating that wouldn’t have the same impact as trying to incite moral outrage (which is ridiculous in this case – its just a simple April Fool’s Day joke).

Having players stick their arms out to the side and giving the screen a 1950s aviation film feel isn’t a social statement or allusion to anything – it’s just a fun little joke (which will be gone later today anyway).

+1 Exactly.

I am willing to bet that all the people here QQ’ing dont have a problem playing video games with cars in them, and yet people die in car accidents every few minutes. I am also willing to bet that the QQ’ers here watch television shows and movies where people get shot, and yet someone in the world gets shot and killed ever few seconds….and the examples could go on and on. You do realize that you are playing a video game that involves basically nothing else but simulated killing right??? …….and yet its a fun, benign April fool’s joke that suddenly turns everyone into a moral entrepreneur? …….absolutely unbelievable.

The most offensive thing here is the level of people’s hypocrisy.

People selling Arah paths

I think when they read this thread they’re gonna feel so bad they will come and apologize to you.

When ppl do any path solo/duo/trio and want to sell it, more power to them. This is legit bussiness.

Doubtful, but getting time banned or perma banned will certainly do the trick.

I agree on it being a legitimate business. Completing a difficult task and charging someone else for it has been a common practice since GW1.

I’ve never seen any scammer banned in this game

A-Net is constantly reviewing, banning, and closing accounts non-stop. As long as scamming exists, banning will exist. The process may be slow, but that is because of the sheer volume of reports that have to be reviewed thoroughly before acting upon them.

Current state of endgame?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Silvatar.5379

Silvatar.5379

I am assuming that this question is coming from your experiences playing other MMOs as it is not applicable to GW2 in the traditional sense of MMO design. The simple answer to your question is ALL!!! content is endgame content.

Thanks to the game’s design and scaling features, you can engage in basically any pve/pvp content at endgame whether it is continuing to work on your personal story, dungeons, fractals, wvw, pvp, map completion, excreta.

It is entirely up to the individual player to decision on what content they enjoy the most and to pursuit it at his or her leisure.

As you get to learn GW2 better, you will understand why this question is completely irrelevant.
