Classes that are welcome (generally speaking) in any game mode include: ele/war/thief/guard/mes/engi (most of the time)

Classes that often get discriminated against are: ranger/necro/and sometimes engi (though I dont know why) but this mainly applies to group content such as dungeons

I cant comment on how people generally feel about revenants.

Keep in mind though, if you play with friends or with your guild, most rational people wont care much about your class as all of them are pretty good and its all about having fun. There are no seriously flawed/fail classes (imo) in GW2, each simply has their own unique strengths and weaknesses for particular situations.

Edit: I should have made the disclaimer that with the new builds possible for each class, peoples preferences for group composition may begin to change a bit.

Edit edit: You identify ele as one of the classes that appeals to you, well, you cant go wrong with ele as it is one of the most popular classes for virtually anything (but it is also one of the harder classes to be skilled at)

As mentioned, you can give BL chests a try but I would not rely on them as a means to getting it as the odds are just not in your favor (unless you have a lot of real-life money to waste on buying gems to purchase keys).

Your best bet is to wait (and hope) that they bring back the Avian Mini pack at some point….or make a ranger and use this lol https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Juvenile_Owl

Best way to get ascended gear

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Silvatar.5379

Silvatar.5379

1. decide what ascended item you want (most will tell you to start with weapons)
2. max the crafting discipline required to make it
3. start making dragonite ingots, empyreal stars, and bloodstone bricks as soon as possible (you can do this to help level your crafting too)
4. go make money (in whatever way you enjoy most) to purchase the rest of the mats you need (I hate to say this but SW will probably be the best option as you can also get obsidian shards in SW which you will need for ascended gear)
5. show off your new “shinny” toy

Is Crafting that important?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Silvatar.5379

Silvatar.5379

I’m currently playing a Thief and am unsure if I should even worry about crafting yet. I assume if it’s important late game I should start now (I just reached the hub in the human starter zone with all the crafting vendors).

I assume I need weapon smithing for making Legendary weapons.

Also is cooking any good or can you just get by buying food from the Auction House? If it’s not good, what would be a good secondary next to Weapon Smithing?

Crafting is only important (imo) for making ascended and legendary stuff which is end-game so no need to worry about it yet…. (or for playing the market by making items to sell).

As a thief, you will most likely want leather working to make medium armour and weapon smithing to make swords and/or daggers. Cooking is nice to have as well but a character can only have two disciplines active at a time (or up to four with the purchase of Additional Crafting Licenses). To switch between disciplines costs in-game money so what I have done is to have all 8 disciplines spread out on 4 different characters (2 each) so that I never have to pay to switch disciplines or purchase crafting licenses.

I would only bother with leveling-up leather working and weapon smithing as you go as a way of preventing materials from overflowing your bank and material storage.

ANet's mentality on dungeons

Silvatar.5379

Do we know how much of a nerf to dungeon gold is happening? They are pretty unrewarding as they stand, so unless u need the title no-one will run them as it’s easier to get tokens and skins from the pvp reward track.

I don’t read all of the posts so maybe there is more accurate information out there somewhere, but I did see this from John Smith:

“Dungeons will still drop things as well as they will still have some gold, they will just have much less gold."*

Interpret “much less gold” as you will.

What shall I do with Armorsmith 400?

Well I will be (dam)ned, I guess I have been 500 with everything for so long that I have never bothered to notice the inconsistencies between the two ratings with some of the items, ie. ascended gear. I stand corrected, thanks for the information.

There you go FluentFox, level up a bit and you can start making some ascended mats if crafting is your thing. Best of luck.

Look closely at your 3rd pic down: Bolt of Damask level requirement for Armorsmithing is 500 (it is the same with Deldrimor Steel). It also indicates the crafting level for Leather work is 500 as well (you can see both of them are red which means that you can not make it with that particular character). The level requirements for ascended mats are different for some crafting professions. In the 2nd pic you can see that huntsman can make leather squares at 425 while other crafting professions have to wait till 500.

New/Returning player - class picking

Silvatar.5379

I guess we are just interpreting his meaning differently. I read that as: he likes to melee, and subsequent WANTS to melee but feels forced to go range because he feels that melee is “weak in WvW” (his words). In other words, he is feeling forced to go range not forced to melee which is what he “likes” and, I assume, would prefer if he could just find a fun “noob” friendly option.

Since all classes can be ranged how are you forced to melee on any of em?

I am confused. Who is talking about being “forced” to melee??? The OP is just asking for advice about a fun, noob friendly class that can perform well in WvW….oh, and he likes melee so I assume he would like suggestions to take this into account.

Actually Rose is right in this case. The OP is talking SPECIFICALLY about Armorsmithing (its only in the thread title), and armorsmithing requires level 500 to make ascended mats to sell (as I suggested in my first post). I don’t know why you are bringing up artificing other than to try and prove yourself right but like you said, “we’re only human so errors are in our nature”.

in Players Helping Players

Silvatar.5379

Well……at level 500 you can make ascended mats to sell but at 400 all I can suggest is to check the TP to find out the current selling prices of items that you can make such as superior sigils and exotic armor. Then check the accumulated cost of all the mats required to make that particular item to determine the profit margin (if there is one). I do not make my money through crafting so I am not aware of any specific items that would make a good profit…..and I doubt anyone who does make their money this way will want to share their knowledge with you as they will want to keep their hold on the market (supply and demand).

The main reason to level crafting is to get to 500 to make ascended/legendary stuff for yourself.

New/Returning player - class picking

Silvatar.5379

Kind of at a loss regarding what to suggest because really, any class can be fun and perform well in WvW as each has their own strengths (and weaknesses) for particular situations. Your current classes – warrior, guardian, elementalist are all highly popular for WvW as they are all wanted for group pvp.

Also, to be frank, there are no “noob” friendly classes for WvW. You either know what you are doing or you are meat no matter what class you are. In other words, its all about learning your class and how to respond to a given situation through practice and experimentation. “If” there is a noob friendly class, it might be playing a ranger and just staying as far back in the zerg as possible to snipe the enemy….but this type of ranger is perhaps the least welcome class/build in serious WvW.

All I can suggest is to just try out each class to find what suits you best and try to stay within the safety of the zerg where you can get support from others during the process of learning.

Just no.

Anyone who has played an MMO where this option was available will know just how much discrimination, griefing, and animosity this inevitably creates. Alternatives to gold rewards

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Silvatar.5379

Silvatar.5379

I have already made multiple posts about this so I will just copy/past my latest one below:

[ ]….from my understanding, their main concern is the infusion of “new” gold into the game. Thus, a simpler solution would be to remove/reduce the end reward of gold and replace it with loot, the amount of which could be dependent on the difficulty of the dungeon path.

For example these could be added to the end reward as a replacement for the reduced/removed gold:

CoF p1 = 4 bags of masterwork gear and 1 bag of rare gear
CoF p2 = 6 bags of masterwork gear and 1 bag of rear gear
CoF p3 = 8 bags of masterwork gear and 2 bags of rare gear

The numbers here are purely hypothetical to demonstrate the point. The numbers can be whatever Anet/players think would be reasonable to keep dungeons from being a complete waste of time. The benefit of this would be, it addresses the issue of reducing the infusion of new gold into the game while providing players with more viable options for how they farm their mats and make their money.

Original post here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/dungeons/New-dungeon-system-1/first#post5612796

…and yes, I do understand that the intention is to also “deincentivize dungeons”. However, I personally believe this to be an error in judgement and a contradiction in planning for the game’s longevity; for fostering a gaming community; and, for supporting their stated gaming objectives.

Keeping dungeon lovers doing dungeons would also help new players to find people to run dungeons with so that they can also “experience” the game, get their gears, and complete the collection achievements. The current plan to “deincentivize dungeons” will really screw new players in this regard.

How to save dungeons

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Silvatar.5379

Silvatar.5379

From what I read of John Smith’s posts, the main objective in significantly nerfing dungeon rewards is to reduce the influx of new gold into the economy. Okay, I can understand the reasons for doing so from an economic perspective, and I can accept this, but their whole approach to intentionally create a “disincentive” to playing dungeons is NOT the way to go if they value their game content; if they want players to value the game content; if they want to create a gaming “community”; or, if they want to keep players around as the game ages.

The better solution would be to reduce the gold reward and offer players more loot via a simple mechanism that offers an increase in salvageable materials (more of x for killing x for example). I am not suggesting that they need to make dungeons on par with SW for materials but at least some gesture to make dungeons still worth playing as a option if only for mats would help demonstrate a commitment to creating a game that supports players to play how they want (while still make progress towards structured goals).

Will you still be doing dungeons after nerf?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Silvatar.5379

Silvatar.5379

No.

Maybe occasionally to help someone, but certainly not as often which makes me sad. Dungeon running has been my FAVORITE thing to do in this game for the past 2 years. But as much as I love it, I still need to make money with the limited time that I have to play which means I will be forced to spend my time elsewhere or accept the fact that I will now be forever poor. I understand that the point is to “encourage” people to migrate to other areas of the game but frankly, this nerf to significantly reduce the money for dungeon running while leaving SW the way it is will simply “encourage” those few pve players who are not already living in SW to go there. Not happy in the least.

Unfortunately, wvw gear cannot be salvaged or used in the Mystic forge….its a throw-away item, which is why I personally never use it. Sorry to hear that

You should be able to salvage your great-sword though. Not sure if this will change your mind but like I said getting exotic gear is not too hard. Run CoF p1 and p2 daily for 7-10 days with your buddies (once you hit 80) and everyone will get enough tokens for a full set of exotic zerker gear with enough money from the reward and loot to buy decent runes. Done and dusted.

Edit: You can also get all of your exotic weapons with dungeons tokens as well….just in case you were not aware of that. It would probably be easier/cheaper than making it yourself.

Re-Rolling to move servers?

in Players Helping Players

Silvatar.5379

Exotic gear gets soulbound which means you can not share it between characters so there is no point in keeping it. However, I would not let this be a deciding factor for you. Exotic gear is easy get. It only takes 7-10 days of farming a dungeon like CoF to get enough tokens to purchase a full set of exotic armour…and farming a dungeon with your buddies would be something really fun to do together as they will need to get their exotic armor as well.

What you can do is salvage your current exotic armor with the best salvage kit you have available to retrieve the runes, ectos, dark matter, and possibly some insignia’s. The runes you can use again while you can sell the ectos and insignias for some decent coin. And the dark matter is important for crafting ascended gear. Other than that, just make sure you place everything!!! that you want to keep in the bank. Don’t leave anything important on your character(s).

If you only have the one 80, I would most likely just delete him to get the free transfer and start fresh with my friends, especially if they are all starting from scratch as well. Don’t let something as minor as exotic armor stop you.

The WB train is great when you got lots going on as you can jump on and off as you like…..low investment of attention required.

New players have a lot of restrictions we didn’t have. They have less character slots. They can’t buy whatever they want on the trading post. They can’t send money or items in the mail.

The game, the whole game, was on sale for $10 three times anyway. I played this game for 3 years and got 3 years worth of entertainment out of it. I experienced things new players never got to see. By logging in during the Living Story Season 2 I got that for free.

You’re not out money by getting in 3 years early. You’re far far ahead of new people just starting out.

I honestly don’t get these posts.

Nothing feels more satisfying than successfully helping my party through a difficult encounter thanks to timely heals, blocks, reflects, pulls, blinds, etc.

^^Thanks for the concise advice!

Another question, where do I “buy” armor?

From levels 1-79 I would not bother “buying” armour. Just use whatever drops you get. The levels go by fast and the pve content is fairly easy. If you feel that you need better gear, you can buy some at the Trading Post (TP), but I would just stick to green gear – its cheap and should be sufficient for your needs.

When you hit level 80, I would suggest buying rare armour from the TP, and then go farm the dungeons for tokens which can be exchanged for exotic armour at the dungeon vendors. Once you have your exotic armour, salvage your rare gear for ectos.

Silvatar.5379

Firstly, the primeval armour chest will unlock the skins for you which you can then apply as many times as you want to your armour as long as you have transmutation charges. The chest itself only provides 1 set of skins that do not require transmutation charges so you may want to wait until you hit level 80 with some exotic armour which you will likely keep for awhile. Leveling goes by fast so you will be going through armour fast as well so there is not much point in applying the skins just yet (imo).

If you want to learn more about something, type it into your chat bar like this: “/wiki [insert name of item/place/quest/etc.]” . Don’t include the quotation marks, those are just for your benefit,… and hit enter. This will take you to the GW2 wiki web site for whatever it is you are looking up (assuming there is an entry for it). The GW2 wiki is extremely thorough and helpful for a game wiki.

A good place to start as a new player, is to just work on your personal story. This will take you around the map as you work your way through it. Explore and do heart quests in between your personal story quests to keep busy.

Have fun!
