Fanboy- The New Godwin’s Law.
This thread is new and exciting,
Let’s see if all the major points are covered!
1: Accusations! Check.
2: A senseless comparison! Check!
3: Thinly veiled threat! Check!
4: Childish attitude! Check!
I’m sorry, but I completely disagree with this nonsense. Do you... even read the forums?
99% of the threads are locked due to:
A: Repeat Posts. Instead of having one single discussion, people posts the same kitten thing over and over.
B: Posting in the wrong areas. This may be general discussion, but forming posts with ideas in mind belongs in the suggestions forum.
C: Non-Constructive Criticism. It’s few and far between you actually see an intelligent discussion around here. Most complaints I see are doomsday prophecies, threats, or ignorant rants. Even with an intelligent discussion, it eventually leads to-
D: Flame Wars. Someone has a constructive idea, someone else disagrees. Someone next comes in screaming fanboy or white knight. Then someone else comes in and the situation cascades into a useless pile of drivel. I’ve been infracted a couple times, and it was rightly deserved because of this.
E: Spam.
I could go on and on.
This is one of the better moderated forums I’ve been apart of. At least the mods here will actually deal with trolling or idiots flaming one another. At least they deal with all of the ignorant and useless threads that add nothing but spam or dissent. Only one forum I knew of in the past did this, and they had an amazing community over time.
Then i move to another game like WoW... and could not stand most people posting. I doubt you’ll get infracted, but I dare say that this post will probably end up being locked because it’s basically spam.
@Lance Coolee How do you not understand why actions were taken for that post?... lol
Server: Tarnished Coast
Map: Snowden Drifts
Problem: Skillpoint npcs not appearing for Devotee of the Owl skillpoint...
Only other place I’ve seen a back slot item was during story mode. it was a level 30-ishh item.
I love underwater combat o.O
It feels fluid and kiting is pretty easy with the right skill set. Only thing that bugs me sometimes is the risen when they’re all clumped together. They’re all RAWR. And I’m all NOU. However, with a little patience I find it manageable.
Certain bonuses will not stack. Like 2 of the same stat will not stack. it’s one or the other. Same go for some stacking bonuses. For more info on Sigils and how they work check out the wiki page

As for Q2- not sure. Never tried a class that uses a shield yet.
I believe this is what you are looking for.
Unfortunately this is quite common these days. I never understood, and i never will, what motivates these kind of people. It just has to revolve solely around their own needs when it comes to design, if not, then just bakitten day in day out.
One look at this forum and you can see 3 or 4 people stating the exact same thing over and over again in numerous threads.
It doesn’t mean that i think the game is perfect or has no bugs, but continueing the same rants over and over again, by the same few people, is getting quite pathetic imo. You don’t have to like certain aspects of the game, but just move on. We get it now, you don’t like certain things, no need to repeat it over and over again in numerous threads.
Ofcourse, when you don’t agree with their views, you’re a fanboy/whiteknight or whatever.
It is very tiring to see. I like reading forums, but this one is so full of “bad stuff”, I get sick of looking at it. I really do feel like all of the negativity rubs off on me. If I never would have looked at the forums (despite the fact that it is in my nature), I would probably feel much better about the state of the game. Don’t get me wrong I really like it, I just wish the community felt more positive.
When Apollo 13 was in grave danger, everyone didn’t jump all over NASA’s kitten. They were behind NASA the whole way praying for those astronauts to return home safely. Positive attitudes hoping for the best. You have to wonder how differently that would be today.
I feel you.
I’m generally a positive person. I see a nice thread, off topic or not, I enjoy chiming in or helping when needed.
Same way in game or in life. I go out of my way to help others.
Yet when there’s so much negativity, repeated at that, it just turns me sour inside and I feel disgusted. People just simply do not grasp the concept of moving on. For example.. we have someone ehre who got a ‘refund’ yet is still posting? It’s laughable.. and sad to say the least.
lol Totalbiscuit. Those new gen of youtube heroes.
Most of the people the GW2 haters on this forum accuse of giving "unreasonable and unquestioning love" are simply people pointing out flaws in their arguments. I get accused of such "rampant fanboyism" pretty often simply for presenting a reasonable disagreement to what is more often than not unjustified hate towards the game.
I guess the moral of this story is that, if someone hates the game, don’t explain why their viewpoint’s wrong, or "ur a rabid fanboi".
Totally agree here. I read the forums every night before bed, and every day before work. I know the usual suspects that post around here... and I’ve read your posts quite often. Your posts are normally on point, giving reasonable justifications, and staying level-headed. Then you see someone come in going ’Pfft. Another fanboy!’
Like... really?
Anyone that likes the game, or tries to see things from another point of view is a fanboy I guess. I’m sick of the word. it’s overused and frankly.. reminds me of something you’d hear coming from the mouth of a nerdy cartoon character that’s fat, with a nasally voice, and a ponytail. It makes me deeply depressed for the ’new’ generation to grow up next.
Dude!
The OP who is in favour of spreading the love for the game, quite rightly, is using the word fanboy from the very first post.
Didn’t you read it? He’s said it numerous times actually.
And I never used the word fanboy up until DusK went a little crazy. Not once. Read up above this and check.
So, the word I *didn’t* say but the OP, who is defense of this game, is over-used and sickening your hopes for the new generation is it?
Maybe you better take this up with Vermillion then. It seems to me it’s pefectly thing for him to say in this thread, if it’s making a point or opinion you agree with.
Well that’s unsurprising and not very interesting.
I’m not talking about just you, or the Op. I’m talking about the raving lunatics in general.
To me, when someone comes into a thread and starts bashing on "fanboys"... it’s the equivalent of using the term ’That person’s such a [insert name for a famous fascist party during WW2]’. You know, ever heard of Godwin’s Law? To me, ’Fanboy’ is the new Godwin’s law.

Ronin, you make me sad.
Your argument literally made me facepalm.
Well I... Um.
What? o.O
New generation of gamers.
Spoiled rotten by technology, anonymity, and devs that cave in to demands.
I can only see it getting worse with time. :/
(edited by Sin.8174)
I have never been hit by the DR yet. I play 1-2 hours a night in a single zone. So more than likely, I’ll continue to play as long as I can.
Where’s ma report button? >:(
You know you’ve been playing too much GW2, when you misread a title like this, and think its going to be a thread about Skritts not wearing pants.
I honestly thought the same thing… >_<
Men in kilts = Hawt.
Also. yes. Fashion forum please.
It totally is. >.<
I lost my temper earlier because of it. So tired of reading thread after thread, becoming depressed by all the negativity. I just gah. Screw it.
The game deserves to appreciated for what it is- A piece of art in progress. While some things are needed to be worked on, the stuff that doesn’t is amazingly enjoyable.
Although we gotta admit the PvP doesnt offer a huge variety of things to do.
PvP should be about one thing… kicking kitten and taking names. >_>
I personally love the thrill of the hunt in WvW. I’m not a zerg player. i’m that chick, up on top of the cliff, watching you pass right under me before I pounce on top of you and your friend for a little mayhem.
I dunno, PvP was always about having fun just doing whatever. :/ It’s becoming ruined by people looking for some sort of gratifying goal. The only thing that, in my opinion, should be added to make it a bit more worthy.. is some sort of rank system. otherwise, I’m loving WvW.
That second picture is gorgeous
I’m loving the game still myself. AHMAGERD EXPLORATION.
Even zones I’ve already explored 100% I go back to and find something new that i never noticed before. it’s awesome.
Aw you removed it. but the new pic is pretty too!
People usually complain about the classes they have had a personal experience with. I got beat by a Mesmer and at the time i thought he was OP, couldn’t hit him for all the clones, seemed to do massive damage. But in hindsight he was just playing well.
Thief and Warrior are common “omg so OP” classes cause they are the ones at your face. I play a thief and i can say its hard to get close to a good ranged player. Sword and pistol so no heartseeker spam.
I do D/D and still don’t spam HS.
I play backstab style and use things to help close gaps. I like to mix it up.
I often use steal to close the gap (2 second stealth trait) and try to get around them. Then there’s Scorpion Wire? Haven’t tried it in PvP yet, but apparently it’s good to use against ranged because you can pull them toward you.
Continued patronage is profitable. Players buying gems are important to the free-to-play model. And players who do not buy gems are still important because low population games generally do not last long.
This of course is the obvious answer, but it has not come across as an obvious reality from Anet.
Countless threads are made (most of them deleted or locked) that talk about how certain aspects of recent updates have made them decide to leave the game. Instead of impressing upon how important it is for players to stay with the game, most of the please for a change back to before the updates go on ignored, deleted, or locked.
I am sure others will agree with me, Anet has not made a good case that they want us to continue to play, as i said before, they got our money from the box sale, why do they care if we stay ?
Players like you should go. *nods*
I’m sorry, but if you need validation from a company to keep playing, then you shouldn’t be here. There’s something missing for you.
As for the locking of these threads.. THANK THE GODS.
Want to whine? Alright do it. CONSTRUCTIVELY. IN ONE THREAD.
We don’t need 20 effing threads reading the same thing. I’m so sick of the new generation of gamers. Self entitled little dirtballs that do nothing but ruin everything their festering souls latch onto. You know what would be nice? For these players to leave and let Anet run things their own way.
And this is not ’fanboyism’ as the mouth breathers would say. This is coming from someone SICK to death of companies doing everything idiot kid consumers want. Don’t like their idea? Don’t like their model? Play something else. Or better yet.. design your own kitten game.
Btw this is not just aimed at you. This is to those who cry the loudest in general.
The new generation ruined gaming.
I’ve played Mesmer and find them severely easy. You don’t control your illusions except with shatter spells. People think they are skilled because they think of the amount of illusions they summon and all their stealth abilities and the way they confuse the enemy but actually it’s all pretty simple. In fact all that makes them look skilled but it is actually an illusion… LOLOLOL
I honestly doubt your claims. I quite honestly think you’re some sixteen year old kid that thinks he’s top dog, when in all actuality, he’s bad at PvP. The only way he can rage is by coming to the forums and complaining about classes he doesn’t know a thing about.
This is exactly how you come off and I wouldn’t be surprised to find a hint of truth in it.
“if you dont pvp, you have little reason to stay in GW2”
This. I feel like the skill system has been neutered for the sake of PvP balance. A simple, easy-to-balance, opportunity-based skill system such as this is great for PvP… but is utterly boring in PvE where the AI is not smart enough to do any complex maneuvers.
It was made this way for players like Zenith who were simply unable to learn the GW1 system. Design for the lowest common denominator is popular design now a days. =/
GW1—→ That way. You obviously think it’s superior, so why not just go play it?
Do I really have to put IMO at the end of every sentence? I never spoke for anyone but some of you really are trying to justify a very limited skill system.
Because many of us enjoy it?
Therefore, yes, we will justify something that we enjoy. I don’t get how that’s hard to understand.
You buy a car. Someone says that their opinion is- ‘That model is garbage’. Are you going to go ‘Oh well, then i’ll just return it.’
More than likely not. You’re going to offer your opinion as to why you bought it, and why you like it, justifying why it isn’t garbage. Goes with any product that you enjoy.
No idea why people try to justify an overly simple class structure. GW1 had the best classes in the genre, GW2 has the worst.
No idea why people choose to speak for others.
You say GW1 had the best, and I like GW2’s.
Problem?
It’s... fun?
More skills does not necessarily equal better. I hated WoW’s "101 macros just to be functional" concept.
There’s a great saying I learned in english class- K.I.S.S - Keep It Simple, Stupid. For me, simplicity in skills is more fun than having every single ability available. It provides for a better building experience and for more experimentation. You also get to know your ’class’ better, instead of having to perfect your technique for months, or years on end because there are simply too many abilities to use.
I played WoW for quite a while.. and I grew very tired of it. I`m still paying for it, even though i`ve not logged in, in over 5 months. >_< kitten annual pass).
In my opion, you can’t ask the community for a reason to stay- you either enjoy the system, will have an adaptive personality, or go back to previous MMO’s (or go to future ones). For me, however, this is my style of game, so I can see myself playing it for a very long time.
Thief Elites are awesome.
Thieves guild is great for when you need a distraction when taking on a veteran or elite, or even a small group of mobs. Focus fire tagets faster while keeping your own aggro null.
Dagger storm is a great aoe bleed/cripple that can get you out of some sticky situations.
Cry more?...
Seriously, this thread has no point other than to whine.
Wouldn’t ’unskilled’ be those that don’t learn to counter classes?
I do the same thing. Turn off auto-attack.
It’s more fun and much more rewarding than sitting there letting the game do it for me. Also prevents many issues like accidentally auto attacking the wrong mob, or when you’re trying to pull off another skill.
Pffft. pros learn to play with their toes.
Simply calling it as I how I see it.
What adult in their right mind spends all day complaining about the same thing over and over again? Common sense would tell you that ‘Hey, I don’t like the game/company/product etc, or how it’s set up/rundone etc, why bother sticking around’?
However, it seems people can not do anything other than bring up the exact same topics, the exact same comments, worded differently. We get it, you’re unhappy. You’re bored. You’re tired of certain aspects.
Going on about ‘dying’ games, doesn’t help anything. The game’s been out a month, and people expect it to be some full fleshed out game like those that have been running for years…
Perhaps it’s time to get a different perspective.
Yeah yeah, the ’I paid money to whine like a child’ argument. Awesome.
@Muthax. Where are those games now?
Rift floating around a 200k sub base
Swtor- F2P Considered a failure, Founders of Bioware resign more than 75% of staff cut. Server Merged then Merged again.
Tera 50% of staff cut, going F2P servers went from 35 to 3.
The Secret World Lead 2/3 co-creators gone. staff cut 50% going F2P
Rift is hanging in there barely the other 3 have failed in and or around 6 months.
Yup its defiantly me.
So do us a favor and jump ship. This way we don’t have to listen to incessant whining on a day to day basis. I honestly think people have issues if they can’t simply move on.
/facepalm
No words.
The first time application is free. After this, you can keep using the skin via Transmutation Stones which are rewarded for 100% zone completion of cities or leveling areas.
You can also find T-Stones in black lion chests and from the gem store.
Tip: When using T-Stones.. make sure to use the right picture. I almost tranmuted the wrong armor piece once. >.<
Dear Op, don’t be that sort of player. Don’t dictate where people should roleplay, or that they should participate in events that they may not want to.
I’ve done that event many times. Regardless if there are people around or not, the level scale there is not that great. They are some of the harder enemies for that level range.
While i find it rude that they called you a troll, I find it just as rude that you’d suggest others RP elsewhere so as to not hamper your play.
Sorry if that sounds harsh, just saying.
As for the other point- I agree that if someone approaches you in an RP manner, either rp back properly, or politely inform them that it’s a private rp. Don’t be ignorant.
Only 10 gold? Just dinged 70 and have 20 gold in my bank. Not to mention having bought 3 training manuals, abyss dye, white dye, and all my armor up to date (all 7 pieces, 3 weps, + upgrade runes/sigils/trinkets.)
All I do is explore the world, zone by zone, farm mats via gathering tools and sell everything I get via merchants or TP. For me, I generate 1-2 gold per map easily and that’s just casual play. If i were to go out and purely farm/do DE’s I could more than likely make more.
Personally.. a larger WvW map. While the ones we have right now are a decent size, i’d like to see something bigger. Perhaps the size of the world pve map, or maybe half the size. I’m a classic world pvpers and would like a better sense of being in a ’world’.
Istill feels like a battleground instead of a world vs world environment. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE WvW, but I’m a big fan of more terrain.
Otherwise, atm, not much I can think of.
I do support this as long as it doesn’t affect anyone negatively (accidental rollbacks etc). While i know they’re working on fixing bugs, there are many events that get ’stuck’, and it makes me sad. Some events I’ve yet to experience.
Fanboyism level is TOO kitten HIGH!
Basically the OP keeps doing low level characters so he avoids getting stuck on the void that endgame is. Well done!
Seeing as how the report system works beautifully, I’ll remove my harsh words.
I’ll be so happy the day these people disappear permanently.
(edited by Sin.8174)
I think the underwater worlds are beautiful and interesting and while I will particpate in underwater DEs, I would enjoy them more if the things I need to perform underwater were more easily accessible. Unlike my other gear, my speargun and breather tended to lag far behind in level (more the breather than the speargun) and I never saw an option to fill my second weapon slot until very late in the game.
Agreed here.. LOL
I hit.. 60? And still had a level 30 speargun and breather… I had to shop on the TP for a new gun, and hunt everywhere for a karma breather. I just noticed a second slot last night..and I just hit 70. -_-
I love underwater combat here..
Most games it’s freaking ridiculous. Slow movement, bad control... yet here, it’s more fluid and natural feeling.
As for difficulty, i’m not sure what classes or what weapons others use, but I’m a thief with a spear gun. I am officially kitten with it. :P
I do group skill challenges solo (like the shark+3 extras) in the 50-60 level risen zone no problem. Takes a bit of practice, but it’s doable.
Same with last night, in the 35-45 zone. I was fighting a champion branded fish with about 4 or 5 others, and had the aggro on me the entire time because of how hard the speargun hit. I kept the thing at bay with cripples and used dodging appropriately. I think I had one close call, but that’s only because I timed my dodge wrong.
Underwater combat is a steeper learning curve, but once you master it, it’s a piece of cake. Kiting is slow, but a blast.
“I don’t play X any more” does not mean death. It means you choose to spend your money elsewhere. How many MMOs have actually shut down all their servers and closed up within six months of release? A year?
APB is the only one I know of (All Points Bulletin)… A GTA style MMO. Shut down within 3 months lol
I really need to stop and listen more...
I’m just concentrated on world exploration, so i’m doing zones in record time. I would love to hear some of these lines. xD The Duke Nukem reference is awesome
I like HB because it’s a fun, almost ’resort’ style area. Lots of boakittenl norn who love drink.
Not to mention KEG BRAWL! So much fun xD
However, I prefer Divinity’s Reach. I know it inside an out now. I always hang out on hard to reach roof tops, and get into places that are a tad difficult. Not to mention there’s always people hanging around!
Oh.. and having the BLTP 5 feet away from the bank is awesome too <_<
I still remember my first MMO. Some dinky little korean title where leveling was a pain and you could pvp anywhere in the world.
When it came to pvp, it was punishing.
There were 3 colors of names in the game. White- standard name. Red name- obtained if you killed anyone with a white or blue name. Blue names- if you killed anyone with a red name.
I of course, was a red name in this game. It stood forPKers, or ’evil’ as many people called it. I recall ganking so many people one day, getting so red, and then dying over and over again to remove it.
I had died so much, my experience levels went negative. I was like -13k exp... and in a game like that.. it was a lot. Probably take 2 weeks of farming to remove it...
On top of this, you also had to build skill points, which was a long and grueling process. If you had pvp turned on, or had a red name... and you died? You could lose days worth of farming...
Do I miss it? Yes and no. I miss the ability to gank anyone in the game, flagged or not. I do not miss the severe punishment for trying to have fun.
Is that at the priory base?
I was curious about this too!
Considering how much time I’ve already spent playin this game, I’ve got my money’s worth and more. I was really worried when I jumped on the Pre-purchase … leap of faith and all … but I was glad I did and don’t regret it one bit.
Totally agree…
I had a copy reserved with EB Games since last October. I was in a lull with WoW, especially the pvp. Started looking at other MMO’s when GW2 came up randomly on a related search through youtube.
I watched a few pve videos and was already sold. Then i witnessed the PvP aspects. I had planned on playing both games, but so far.. I’ve not touched the other in probably 5 months or so. This was a great investment.
Love how you’re so afraid to learn the truth about this game that you hold yourself in the first 30 levels and swap characters constantly.
That is actually a good way to delay the inevitable indeed. You give yourself the variety the game doesnt by constantly swapping character and you dont reach the plateau of end-game soon so you cant be appauled by it. I dont know how you dont get bored of playing the same areas though, i sure was pulling my hairs out of boredom when i tried leveling an alt.
Unfortunely, you are delaying the inevitable. It will come to you too. Also, at this pace you wont even be able to enjoy the big events on the Orr cause of lack of players.
Just leave already lol
I really don’t understand people like you. Whining and trying to scare people off, only to make yourself sound like some sort of sad weirdo with nothing better to do.
We get it. You’re not happy. Ever heard of moving on?
@OP Glad you’re having fun I hit 70 last night and might have done 40% of the pve stuff.
I’ll work along doing crafting and dungeons later, but my main eye candy is the pvp. Looking forward to more focus on this.
