The lack of server community feeling...

Whats the point of going back to a completly random server and saying im back? i dont get it…

Exactly my point. if you’re not going to invest time trying to make friends here, then you have no room to say that no one would welcome you back when they don’t even know you. It would be the equivalent of going to a random server and asking for the same.

Also, I’m tiring of this already. Since when is it the game’s responsibility to hold people’s hands to help them make friends? I see a lot of people daily who chat it up, hang out, party together etc. Maybe you’re stuck on a crappy server? Idk.

It’s up to you to make yourself known and introduce yourself to the community. I’m sure I’ve made many enemies on the forums by now, but in game? I’m made a few alliances (not quite friends yet, because that’s how I am), and people that I’m friendly to. Hell, there’s even people on the server I’m up against that i’ve a truce with on a personal level.

Forging a strong community is up to the playerbase, not the developers. You want to look so negatively on this game and the way it was done- your decision. Many others will take what they have and make it better for themselves and those around them.

The lack of server community feeling...

It has, if i would reactivate my old account and login to my old WoW server i would have people greeting me from left and right and welcoming me back again inside a couple of minutes.

Thats a community.

That would never happen in a game like GW2 that dont care so much about building a Server/Player community.

Hmm. A game you played for how many years? made how many friends?

Maybe they would welcome you back. GW2 has been out what.. 2 months? And you expect to have made 100’s of friends by now?

Also, I dare you to reactivate your account and goto a random server, saying that you’re ‘back’. I can assure you no one will greet you with any form of ‘welcome’. Trade trolls aren’t that nice.

You guys are in denial if you don’t believe that this games social aspect is horrific.

Why You Should always Zerg in WvW

in WvW

Posted by: Sin.8174

Sin.8174

Zerging is ZzZzZz.

So far I’ve had a few fun experiences. It was great for a bit. However, at the same time...

It’s a nightmare.

Join zerg. Meet enemy. Fight... save people... no one helps you in return.

Join zerg. Go for objective.... get sidetracked and go elsewhere.

Join Zerg. Try to take keep. Get a little opposition. Zerg splits up.

Join Zerg. Find out zerg is running the same 5 towers/supply depots the entire time. Becomes a pattern and enemy can take us out easier.

While a zerg can be fun and more effective at times, i find that there’s a lot of bad with them as well. I’m tired of seeing the same zerg running the exact same objectives.. never trying for anything else. Or zergs not sticking around to help teammates when the enemy shows up.

I have more fun going off on my own, scouting and picking off stragglers, or setting up siege equipment in random areas.

-Raid style dungeons: 2-4 group dungeons. Teams are great in WvW, but I would love to have it implemented in PvE in some way.

-More class specific armours: A lot of armours are focused toward generalized views of those armours. Guardians really don’t have a set of armour that really matches their class, engineers often have ranger or assassin styled armours. More diverse options would be nice.

-True drop specialities: What this means is, certain bosses could drop loot specific to them. Nothing special in stats, but special in visuals. Something similar to Legendary weapons in look. I killed zhaitan, get a special shoulder armour for example.

-Preview in Auction House. Nuff said.

-In-game marriage. I made my points in the thread.

-Dungeon queueing: I feel like the group/dungeon dynamic is an out of date mechanic standing in LA or outside the dungeon broadcasting yourself, and the LFG function is somewhat hidden. I think we need a queue system that will automatically group people for a dungeon.

These are just my thoughts and views. I LOVE this game and look forward to being here during its growth. Does anyone else have thoughts on it? Something they didnt expect?

Raids are meh. I prefer open-world raids over dungeon crawler raids.

Class Specific armors would be nice.

’Drop Specialties’... not even sure where to stand on this. On one hand it sounds neat. on the other... well. Look at Magic find? I don’t want dungeons to go all WoW with having to run them 100+ times due to RNG. Tokens are guaranteed. Drops aren’t.

AH previews are needed. No doubt.

In game marriage.. don’t really care either way.

LFG auto-queue? Not a fan of that idea. I’ve seen what they tend to do to games.

My top 10 moments would have to be:

1: Diving off of the statue in Divinity’s Reach over and over again. Pretty amusing.

2: Carefully moving over the edge of the statue in DR so that it looks like I’m standing on air, and then doing /dance. Then secretly laughing as people try to emulate this and fall to their death. xD

3: Stalking newbs and helping them out.

4: Placing banners around starter zones that grant karma, exp and MF boosts.

5: Navigating hard to reach areas like mountain terrain or rooftops in DR.

6: Hunting Stragglers in WvW.

7: Placing down those fun chests from the gem store.

8: Having an entire party start dancing in a dungeon.

9: Forming a party with members from another server in WvW. (Truces ftw!)

10: Having a dance party in WvW with players from other servers.

There were a few attempts at forming an alliance with FA last night. We had dance parties, emote wars etc ^.^ In the jumping puzzle I learned that you could actually party with another server. o.O I was in a party with 3 FA players last night in the jumping puzzle. Was a lot of fun!

Although, after leaving FA hit up Durios and several players from TC were all ’Really?! Okay, truce off!’ It was pretty funny. Thanks for the good times! <3 from TC!

WvW is plenty fun. Giving up isn’t fun though, so maybe you should stop doing that.

Easy to say if you’re severely dominating other servers. ;D

IoJ has mostly been on the losing side of their matchups. Still had fun regardless.

TC’s had a few losing matches. I enjoyed them. However, this week’s match has been pure hell.

After seeing 100% green world as noted in my screenshot.. yeah. Not fun. Not fun getting out your starting gate and having large parties waiting. Not fun pushing a boulder up a hill either. Especially not fun when players think the only thing that matters is ’defending what we have’ and hitting the same location every five minutes.

I don’t mind losing.

I do mind being 100% dominated to the point that the maps are almost unplayable. I’m not a masochist and do not find that enjoyable.

So far my most hated classes to meet head on are Ele’s and Rangers (depending on terrain).

Ele’s can do some pretty good damage and have decent survivability. Rangers are just a pain to deal with unless I can stay on top of them. Usually if I’m ontop of a wall with my SB, I’m always on the move, trying to avoid ranger’s barrage (hate that <.<) or ele’s fire abilities.

Are all MMO forums like this?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sin.8174

Sin.8174

That’s quite amusing. You must be new to the internet so let me inform you on a couple of things.

1. ArenaNet does a great job moderating the forums. Personally, I find it refreshing to be able to cycle through the forums and not have to wade through a bunch of trash. That being said, I still see plenty of whining, complaining, and rudeness. They let you speak your mind without it getting out of hand. It keeps things civil and is better for the community.

This right here is rude, insulting and condescending. The very things you posted you don’t like to see. You could have gotten your message across while being polite, you know. As it is though, you’re just a hypocrite.

Back on topic, I don’t get why people see complaints as negative. Complaints are a form of feedback, one that in particular motivates developers to improve the game. Isn’t that a positive thing? I, for one, would like to see the game improved, as I intend to stay here awhile. As far as I’m concerned, keep the ’whining’ coming, folks. Don’t let the white knights discourage you from posting genuine feedback.

Don’t use White Knights or your argument will fall invalid. Try to form an argument without labels, thank you.

As for wanting to make the game better? This is going to be done with time. No MMO game starts out 100% perfect or had things to keep it super amazingly fun for years right off the bat. It gets added eventually.

However, when it comes to ’complaints’ there are many that do NOT help the game whatsoever. There are some complaints that are even illogical. Not all feedback is useful or helpful to the game/community.

I’m sorry, but those that can’t even see a silver lining in the game.. should honestly look for something else. There is no sense in raging and whining, calling out the devs or players simply because the game isn’t exactly your thing. Anyone with an ounce of logic, especially if they’re not liking over 80% of the game, will find something more accommodating. Posts like ’OMG FIX THIS NAO’ are nothing but spam.

Here’s a nice example. Way point Costs in PvE and Repair costs in WvW.

Before i hit 80, I’d hear so many people crying and complaining, demanding something be done about these costs because they were too high. Apparently money was hard to make in PvP and at 80 with all these costs thrown at you.

Yet.. I’ve been 80 for quite some time now, have managed to get all of my exotics, pieces of my cultural set, and still haven’t found issues with making money. I log on, port out to orr and hunt nodes for maybe.. 30 mins- 1 hour at most. Between nodes, I lend quick handss at events and kill things along the way, I make 50s-1g for casual play from selling everything I get to vendors or the TP.

Same with WvW. Attacking, defending, etc I make a ton of money to sustain what I need for my play times. For every time I have to repair my armor from dying, I’ve already made 10-20 silver in turn. Tonight I was just fooling around. Hitting a random node here and there, attacking or defending a random keep here and there, mostly just ganking people that strayed from the zergs. For a couple hours of being LAZY I made 1g 24s, having started at 0 copper. (I put my cash in my bank before every farming).

So no, not all complaints help improve the game. Some, many even, tend to be personal opinions and ’whining’. Anyone with a valid complaint will do it constructively in a neat and tidy post with lengthy reasons and potential solutions. Even better members of the community will add pros and cons to their ideas.

I would like to see more of this and less ’This is stupid. Fix it.’ posts.

@OP

Yes. This is the new normality. if you disagree with the complaints, someone will come along and label you a fanboy. (New Godwin’s Law ;D)

I’ve played one game where the forums weren’t that bad, but that was only because it was a 0 tolerance forum. It was nice, but the company itself grew very corrupt. Since then I’ve played a few other MMO’s and so far most have pretty terrible community members. Be thankful, however. GW2’s forum is probably one of the better moderated forums. The Mods do a good job cleaning up, merging complaints and quelling flame wars; Although at times, they do make mistakes or go a little overboard with the infractions button. lol Overall GW2’s forums are a tad better better than many others out there.

Don’t judge the entire community by the forums, though. In game, most people are pretty nice.

Engineer OP nerf........

Sin.8174

Have you tried... building tanky Redfeather?..

I was in WvW last night and met an engineer that was build like a truck. She was standing around while a glass cannon thief was trying to kill her. He was barely denting her... lol

As for the OP... WvW video. There’s going to be uneven players all throughout, simply because of the gear discrepancies from the start. A level 1 can go in and be leveled to 80, but he’s not going to have anywhere near the survivability.

Lastly.. just have to say... SICK of seeing the word nerf (in general). Nerfs are a crappy way to deal with issues. I would love to see the devs BUFFING classes that need it. BUFF is a more pleasant word to see.

The game’s fantastic, but I’m havin’ one huge problem with it … I’m having so much fun with my main that I can’t seem to get into an alt; and this is me, who’s usually an altoholic. I’m really wonderin’ if I’ll even be able to start an alt when the first big expansion comes out …

So, in addition to all the other great things this game has given me, it’s also given me a first in stickin’ with one character for more than 20 levels.

I dinged 80, got my exotics, got my first piece of cultural gear.. and just can’t seem to level an alt. >_< I planned on leveling one to farm cash, but, meh.. just too occupied by the main atm.

blacklights post about putting more “cool rare drops” is a good one imo.

i think the free to play format kind of made the designer put a lot of content out of loot possibility and thats a shame.
keys for chest, gems, transmute stone, repair can, town cloths..

loot would be spicier with all these sprinkled in in light dose.

Blacklight each class has its strengths and weaknesses. You can play every class out there, but you won’t master them all equally.

You know the saying ’Jack of all trades, master of none?’

Warriors are a well rounded tanky character. However, many other classes are just as viable and can perform well. Just because you prefer to take the easy way out doesn’t mean the rest of us do...

Also, may I say that I do not believe your claim of ’I usually don’t care’.. because 90% of your posting history is complaints about the game in many aspects.

Do You Skip Vistas and Jumping Puzzle Scenery?

With my current character, I wanted 100% completion as fast as possible so I skipped all of the vistas/did everything as fast as I could. However, now that I’m at endgame and enjoying WvW, I can now go back with alts and actually enjoy the scenery.

I don’t get too worked up by much involving games. If something gets changed, I adapt like a rational, sane person. Some changes get me excited, but those that don’t, don’t even affect me in the slightest.

For example: The invisibility bug in WvW. Annoying? Sure. However, I still continued to play be either A: Relogging to fix it, or B: Made use of tab targetting and spammed abilities. lol

I’m sorry, but I believe that those that freak out or froth from the mouth over stupid things such as video game changes have more problems than they care to admit.

Hullo people

Okay, I’ve been in WvW the last couple of days now, but I’ve not been sure on how my build is.It doesn’t seem to hit as hard as I’d like.

Let me first state- This could be due to the fact that I’m missing my exotic trinkets (rings, amulet etc…) I plan on buying some tonight.

Anyhow here is my set up so far.

Armor/Weapons:

Using All beserker’s armor for power/precision/crit damage.

For runes I have Superior runes of the hoelbrak x6 which offer:

(1)25 Power
(2)
20% Might duration
(3)50 Power
(4) 5% chance to gain might when hit
(5)
90 Power
(6)-20% condition duration applied to myself

My weapons are both beserker’s for the power/precision/crit.

I use Superior Sigil of Bloodlust (+10 power for each foe killed, stacks to 25) on my main hand and Superior Sigil of Air on my offhand. (30% chance on crit to cause a lightning strike).

My secondary weapon is a shortbow focusing on power/precision/condition damage with Superior Sigil of Air.

My traits are as follows:

20 Deadly Arts -Mug for damage upon stealing and +5% dagger damage.

20 Critical Strikes -Furious Retaliation and Critical haste

30 Shadow Arts- Infusion of Shadow, Hidden Thief, and Shadow’s Rejuvenation

My Slot Skills are as follows…

6- Hide in Shadows

7- Blinding Powder

8- Shadow Refuge

9- Assassins Signet (which I swap out for Signet of Shadows for the paaive movement buff)

My Elite Skill is Thieves Guild.

I’m not concerned too much with survivability. I’m often alone, scouting, or taking out stragglers. When in groups, I usually go after the enemies that are trying to weaken our furthest reinforcements.

I’ve been jumped before and usually 8/10 times I manage to get away. Is my build decent, or are there things that could be added/swapped to make it a tad better? >.<

I enjoy the ability to get away when needed, but I don’t always feel like I hit hard enough. Maybe it takes practice, I don’t know. Any tips would be appreciated.

Fanboy, knight, troll etc.. in my opinion, is the new age version of Godwin’s Law. I would suggest avoiding the use of such labels.

As for the point of:

I’m curious if you guys are looking at this subjectively or if you’re just hating on the game.. just BECAUSE it’s not GW2.

In my case it’s subjective. I’ve played a variety of MMO’s. I left one of the most popular ones for GW2. It had nothing to do with the ’title’ of the game. I looked into it, saw things I liked and took a chance.

I’m all about the WvW aspect of this game. To me it appeals greatly. I’ve done all of the PvE content save a few dungeons, and after 80, got into WvW as my mainstay point for the game.

The last two days has been a blast. From hunting down smaller parties to full on siege warfare. For instance, last night I had the most fun gaming than I’ve had in a long time. My server group is currently in last place, outnumbered by another server. They own the biggest central cstle in the Eternal Battleground, and we took over a small fort about 600 yards away.

With about maybe 20 people there last night, we held off wave after wave of the dominating server’s players, all working together to keep the walls up from the constant barrage of trebuchet rounds. They even tried sending a large force of 30-40 people, and we managed to keep the from crossing the bridge. Heck, we even pushed them back to the castle, had time to build our own treb and gave them a little taste of their own medicine.

This is the exact type of game I’ve been looking for. I can choose to take part in any battle I wish, whether it be infiltration, small hunting parties or large scale warfare. I spent 3 hours last night just enjoying myself and this is my main reasoning for not really caring about looking into another game atm.

Not only this, but while WS looks alright, it doesn’t exactly seem to fit what I’m looking for. I’ve found my home.

Couldn’t care less, really. I don’t particularly like the look of Wildstar much.

Doesn’t affect me in the slightest when it comes to making ’suggestions’ for GW2. I enjoy this game and feel it’s my type of game. A few fixes, some more added content in the future and things will be better. Even now, I’ve still yet to deal with half the issues most complain about. I’ve been roadblocked twice via broken skill point or story quest.. but they were quickly fixed so I could complete them. I don’t have issues with ’slogging’ through Orr, never get hit by DR, nor do I have issues with waypoint costs as I make enough gold farming. I don’t plan on leaving GW2 any time soon, regardless of how a new game is presented.

I hit 80, got my exotics, now I’m doing what I love. Stalking people in WvW.

If people don’t point out the bad things that exist in a game, then no advance in programming or game design can ever be made.

Your idea of a bad thing, is not necessarily everyone’s idea of a bad thing.

I agree, problem with that is that most things are subjective. Some people like myself love what GW2 did with its endgame, essentially taking an approach similar to a sandbox where you have the whole world to play with.

Care to explain how you have “the whole world” to play with?
Downscaling isn’t new and with the high waypoint and repair cost at lvl 80 you are kittening yourself when you go back to low level content you already did because the lvl 80 content is boring.

Waypoint costs aren’t even that bad.

Since 80, and doing 100% pve map completion I go out and kill things or farm nodes.

For a couple hours of casual play, I make between 4-5 gold before I head back to L.A. via WvW port. I make way more money than I lose via teleports.. and I use them often when I’m in a zone.

AoE is not working at all. As a ranger, my Entangle does not work on invisible thieves. Barrage does not work to get thieves out of stealth either.

More than half the thieves i have encountered in 3W either use infinite Initiative or teleport/stealth/speed hacks.

The class is broken and needs to be taken down a notch and anti hack systems need to be put in place.

More than half? Really?..

Proof? I mean, you must have lots of proof right? Videos, screenshots, whatever? You know, in case Anet needs to ban these players?

Otherwise it sounds like you’re talking out your kitten simply because you dislike the class.

I would enjoy upgrading BLC’s...

I get a ket drop maybe once every 1000 kills or from map clearing/story mode quests. Also, it seems like the droprate has gone up. I used to get a chest every so many 100 mobs.. Or like 2-3 times a map.

Just did a 70-80 map last night and got like 7-8. o.-

Why is there no stealth detection?

I can’t quote -.-

@ Greiger- That would be a player culling issue or lag.

When i’m in PvE, as soon as I hit backstab, I’m removed from stealth and the mob is on top of me again. It would be nice for them to fix this issue with PvP however.

As someone who has played tons of thief/mesmer since beta.

Yes invis is insanely strong in this game.

Stronger than pretty much any MMO out there.

Apparently you’ve never played WoW with perma stealth?…

And even then rogues have a high skill cap and should follow the simple rule of don’t shadowstep into the flare lol!

LOL I used to kitten off huntards like that. xD

I’d come in and ambush them, then vanish.. they’d get all paranoid and pop flare and hug the middle of it. Then i’d shadowstep in quickly, smack them, then Prep+vanish again.

Used to love messing with them!

Is GW2 as successful as you hoped?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Sin.8174

What does this mean to you? To me, it seems to hint at, although not for sure, that GW2 was not the revolution or genre changer that it had hoped, and that people still prefer the traditional style of MMO.

People prefer these traditional MMO’s because it’s imbedded into their brain. It’s like... you find a fast food restaurant that you really enjoy, and refuse to eat anywhere else because you’re not a fan of change. Other people’s different ideas as to how they make your Pizza or Burger won’t meet your standards so you just stick to the same old.

I’m like this with some things, including games or fast food joints.

However, every once in a while, if you actually go into it with an open mind, not expecting your traditional likes, some find that they enjoy something new now and again.

For me, GW2 is genre changing. It removed all the things I didn’t enjoy in other MMO’s: Tedious grinds, gear treadmill, unbalanced PvP, raid attitudes, etc. Then replaced this with quests that I can complete in multiple ways, a personal storyline I can actually get into as it played more like a solo-player story, nice open world feeling PvP, etc.

For some of us, this game changed how we play MMO’s. I left WoW months ago, and now, will probably never look back. I’ve found the game that I feel like I belong to.

The Grove, Rata Sum and Divinity's Reach useless

I prefer Divinity’s Reach over Lion’s Arch.

L.A. is spread out, noisy, and boring for me.

When I’m done exploring/ getting 100% map completion for a zone, I only port to LA so i can hit up Divinity’s. With the bank and the TP a few steps away from one another, it makes it easier to sell and store my goods for the evening. I also just like the overall design of DR. It’s much more beautiful than LA.

1: Yes.

2: A: Yes. In my time since release i’ve only been hit by 3 major roadblock bugs. Everything else has been smooth. (Done every single zone 1-80) B: Could be betetr communication. C: Yes, most players IN GAME are happy. Forums would seem otherwise.

3: If my friends played these games- yes.

4: Yep. Pvp!

5: Yes. Non-standard gameplay. PvE is nice and simple (sometimes challenging). However, PvP is what I really imagined. I saw pvE as the side game, and thus far it hols true for me. Now that I’m 80 it’ll be non-stop WvW.

I am jelly.

I just dinged 75 earlier, halfway to 76 now. Seeing as it’s 5am, I think bed time is in order. Hoping to grind out those last three and a half levels tomorrow so I too can start working toward my exotic set and nifty skins.

I feel the same as you, Eveningstar. It’s nice knowing that you don’t have to continuously ’keep up with the joneses’ in order to have fun. I’ve been this way through a variety of MMO games, and often times I get stressed out thinking ’Okay I hit this benchmark, but now I have to do this, this, and this to get on par with everyone else’.

My favorite pastime is PvPing. I do it for fun. I just love a good duke-out to test myself. The last three MMO’s I’ve been too, it was a major gear grind at the endgame, just to get on level with everyone else. Days, even weeks, of being beaten to a pulp just for those last few pieces to give me the endurance to not be one shot by someone with better equipment.

The way end game is here, makes this a perfect MMO for me. it’s a relief not to have to worry about keeping up constantly. it gives me more time, more freedom even, to just... have fun at my own pace. Whether it’s finding my perfect look, perfecting my build and learning my profession, or even just sitting around to RP.

It’s a great feeling.

Anyhow, sleep calls. Congratulations on your new ’upgrade’ I hope you continue to enjoy yourself at end game.

Question Regarding Patch Transmutation Change

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Sin.8174

I was worried about this too... As I’ve used the same set since level 10 xD (Krytan armor).

However, I realized after reading it a couple times, it’s more than likely referring to what Rshara and Raptor said. Just have to take armor off first.

This doesn’t affect me too much as I’ve done this every time I transmute.

Which is rendered 100% moot because the game is still an infant.

Hmm. game that’s been out for years has tons of items, compared to a game out for a little over a month. Wonder why that is?

@Sin, Bluebird, et al.

I dunno, it seemed like a reasonable request. We have a well policed forum, but I didn’t buy the game for the forums. Why am I not allowed to ask for a well policed game?

Do it in a polite way, in the proper forum, then.

It doesn’t belong in general, because it’s a request for something to be added- mechanical or not. Flesh out a good post with points to back up why you made the request. Add pros and cons. Anything that would be helpful, nice to read, and doesn’t insult the people you’re making the request to.

’I paid for the game and not the forum’, was definitely the wrong way to go about it. :P
