I use the “fire bomb” sigil, in full berserker gear, in aoe situations it triggers in every 6 seconds with piercing arrows.
Dying is faster than the alternatives, mostly. I prefer speed and efficiency over spending 3-4 mins every time someone dies in the middle of hard to kill mobs, or at places we cannot reach.
I’ve made it up to scale 26 without agony resistance… you need a bit of extra help at the jade maw, but other than that you can avoid agony on the other bosses. It’s not easy though, lol.
Why don’t you buy an ascended back and then infuse it for 250 ectos? :P
Since the latest update no one I play with gets anything from the lvl20 daily bonus chest. Every time we kill Maw I ask my teammates what did they get and they are not even getting non infused rings anymore, nor fractal weapons. Something is clearly out of whack, we cannot be that unlucky, on lvl30 everything is business as usual.. (I do the lvl20 dailies on multiple characters, every day.)
Well, aside from keeps you hardly stand still in PvP, so usually you won’t see people doing the “belly dance”. Shortbow shouldn’t miss that much tho, longbow should stay as it is just like in GW1 where you could also dodge longbow shots.
Oh please, in gw1 Longbow always hit in pve and in pvp skilled ppl rarely used longbows without “Read the wind”. Here we don’t have a recurve bow weapon, unfortunately.
It’s solid gameplay, but it’s not because of the rangers. Just look a the numbers, the guy who made the video is barely more than a glass cannon and look at the dmg he pulls, also look at how DEAD that pet is, all the time :-)
FIX the rangeR!
My concern is based on two things. When u transmute your legendary sunrise you cannot combine it with Twilight in the forge, that recipe breaks, at least that’s how i’ve heard. Also when crafting corrupted weapons if the base weapon’s non existent stats are dealt with that recipe breaks as well.
This seems intended now and this is easily beatable with a coordinated team.

This fractal is unbeatable and will make people stop doing FotM. I think it should be removed from the fractal rotation until fixed.
Hrouda said somewhere that they tried to make the fractals difficulty balanced, but this final boss at lvl30 and over is just kittening ridiculous.

I noticed that fractal weapons drop without any stats on them. I already transmuted a fractal longbow to make it usable for my ranger without giving much thought to this potential problem, but today when I got a fractal torch it made me thinking. What if in a future update these fractal weapons will be update-able to ascended via the mystic forge the same way as the fractal capacitors and if i transmute them the recipes for them could break. It would be wonderful to see an official response on this.

Well, level 6 is a bit early to decide if the class is for you or not However, rangers are still one of the most successful PvE classes.
Rangers are probably one of the worst classes to do dungeons with and warriors are the second best. I have a ranger and warrior doing fractals 20+ on both and the warrior is a lot more useful and i don’t get kicked out for being a ranger right after being invited. Ranger discrimination doesn’t happen all that often, but any content that’s difficult cannot bear more than 1 ranger in the party, whilst a 5 warrior party with good players can clear anything.
Lets replace the Legendary Grawl Shaman on 30+ with 2 Giganticus Lupicuses, with certain party compositions it would be a lot easier and less frustrating.
Swamp: Mossman is not melee friendly just because of how hard he kills. Bloom though is pretty easy to melee even at higher levels
Gnarl: You can stand right outside the pushback aoe range and melee >.>
Gnarl Ele: Deal with it
Snow: Knowing who is tanking and who is aggro is kind of the point if you want to melee. Even if you’re tanking there’s still times when you can melee him safely.
Underwater: You don’t NEED to range him, you can melee the boss to death if you want, it’s just quicker to kill him by moving him to the sparks. Also everybody should have at least 1 stun break to break out of stuns. Furthermore you could always have the group fear/sink/float the jelly to rupt that move
Ascalon: Final boss, can be melee’d during the first phase but this is one of the few bosses where you cannot melee at higher levels due to his agony move.
Maw: I do fine meleeing the tentacles by weaving, int, or blinding them. The move they do to knock you down is pretty telegraphed.
Ppl meleeing the Jelly are getting shouted at.
Snow, sure u can try to predict aggro&kitten but if it changes to you mid fight your screwed.
Mossman is ok as a tanky melee, as long as you can dodge the daggers point blank.
Melee is fine up to lvl9 or so. At lvl30 melee is only good for tanking trash mobs, little exaggerated, but mostly true. Anyways about the anti melee design, it is true, I hate it as a warrior, even as a very tankish spec and armor I find myself using my rifle on the boss fights moss of the time.
Anyone got the Mace, Speargun, Spear, Trindent, Rifle or Focus? :P

To beat the Maw past lvl40 you need a special strategy. Most ppl are using res orbs from the gem store, I also heard a mesmer can survive the agony with a well timed distortion. (once you get past lvl40 it doesn’t matter if u have 0 agony resist or the max 30, it will kill you at Maw) I definitively don’t have plans to get past my current lvl 30, event though I have 30 agony resistance.

Hey, the pictures there are basically preview screenshots, it could be that the rifle looks the same, but the warden rifle on the picture on that site is definitively not the shot of an actually owned weapon.

I’d like to ask how the Warden Rifle (sylvari tier3 for 65k karma) looks like. Most Warden weapons looks like kitten in the preview window and then they look amazing when equipped with their blue glass blades and other things on them. Can anyone please post a screenshot of the actual weapon? (google and wiki failed to help me)
The maw can be beaten easily, if 2 ppl have enough agony resist. The problem is with some of the other bosses where agony is hard-ish to dodge.
At the moment you can complete the daily on multiple characters, if they made a daily achievement tab it would have to be account wide…
Fractal fragmentation ftw. I have a 17 alt and a 27 main, having a hard time with both, even when using the web lfg.
In order to have a realistic chance to survive agony at tier20, you need 10 resist the very least. It doesn’t matter if you have 0 or 5. Also at the Jade Maw you need 15, but we usually have a designated “dying area” for players with less than 15.

Doing it over n over n over n over n…. n over is not exactly my definition of fun. I’m lvl21 right now and it gets more and more annoying and boring at the same time, if that makes any sense.
Or they could just make a website of their own and solve the region issue. (the third party side is down atm, I guess it overloaded)
I like the lfg site, now I wish Euros and Americans could play together.
Any dungeoning character needs to be flexible. If your build can’t be flexible then maybe you should dungeon with another character?
I’m yet to see a build that’s not flexible enough to pick up a ranged weapon and spam auto-attack with it.
You need a ranged weapon period. I’m amazed that you managed to get a dungeon master title without it. How do you kill Lupicus without a ranged weapon for example? If it were my team, I would have totally kicked you too, no offence.
Same for me, I’ve done over 60 runs now. I even have the mats ready for the stupid quiver, but still no vial.. (and it would be nice to have 6 vials, so i could get the infused one right away…. ) . Also no ascended ring drop either and I’m rank12 now …
Warriors, guardians and eles are wanted because those are the strongest professions at the moment. (mesmers no so much) I imagine this will change some, because considering the fractals I’ve seen so far melee is being punished quite hard.
I think the only thing that the ranger community feels is working or OP about a ranger is underwater. What gets the highest buff? underwater combat. Seems legit.
Funny thing is, we were pretty good at underwater combat to begin with.

It’s all an excuse.If they had spent all that time ‘fixing’ the other 7 professions, and these fixes were core issues might I add, then they surely had time to look through the core mechanics of the ranger profession, ESPECIALLY the pet.
I can alrdy foresee the official response. “Sorry guys, fixing the ranger is a lot more difficult/complicated than expected, we will get to it soonTM”

I dont know why, but i dont expect a lot of great changes for the ranger,, because they need a lot of changes for shut up the haters of this profesions on the game… not a few… i feeling sad when all people are makings jokes and saying bullkitten about the rangers because anyone want they…
I dont want change profesion because it isnt useful,, i want play ranger because i like but its hard in the last days…
In pve the ranger is not bad, you can get away playing a glass cannon guild (most professions can’t) and the dmg output is about equal to a tankish warrior. To fix this longbow dmg needs to be increased a bit. The main problem is with the pets, utility skills and other weapons. (not that there are no good utility skills, just not a lot of them)
Or even faster than 15 minutes. You can skip pretty much all trash mobs and the bridge event too.
There are some bugs that can happen with Lupi, but generally speaking it’s a well designed,balanced & fun fight.
Man you guys just aren’t very good. Im talking to the people who continue to think this is a bugged encounter. I have used a ranger for poison, an engineer for poison,thief and a necro for poison. This fight is a pure DPS fight and nothing else. Use 1 person to get sparks in. Thats it.
The boss isn’t broken. Your just not good enough to beat her. Simple as that.
It is broken. Guild Wars 2 is not a game that allows for dps race encounters.
This happened before in guild wars one. They updated the fow armor vendor to sell armor with inscription slots and also Anet promised they would update the alrdy existing armor. Well they did, it took them 10 month or so, by the time everyone including me salvaged the old armor and bought the new one, I almost felt angry when they managed to refresh the old armor.
This happens sometimes, but with smart pulling you can kill very large groups, it just takes quite a bit of time.
On my server 2-2-2-2-2-2-2….-2 is the most popular tactic.
I’m a bit mad about this change of philosophy myself, but the skins won’t go away, you can still transmute them. And overall it could be worse, old dungeons won’t become easier, because the normal stat differences are minor and agony resistance won’t affect them.
Worst explorable: CM. I greatly dislike the Manors layout, the way the mobs are placed, how everything looks boring and dull. Also the rewards look awful.
Best explorable: Ascalon Catacombs. Great rewards, decent bosses (when not bugged), short completion time.
I like Arah exp too, but it has too many unfixed issues to be called “The best” at this time.
I’m happy to report that we managed to get this party going and successfully cleared path4 in about 2 hours. With this “pathetic” brute force method we downed Simin easily.
One thing to note, if you are playing on an US server, even if your schedule allows you to play at around 21pm GMT, the game doesn’t allow you to play dungeons together with EU players. I’m getting a lot of whispers about this, I’m sad we cannot play together with US players at this time.
I remember it when at launch ppl thought u actually need to kill him and I don’t recall any of my pug groups wiping on him. (not that I killed him even once since then)
So far so good, we only need one more warrior and we are good to go.
It’s not needed to have a party with 4 warriors and a thief, but it’s very useful to have a thief for the poison tho.
Basic tactic for low dps groups is like this:
-Gather tears
-Assign a spark running, a 2nd spark runner and make sure others know how and when to throw tears-Bring him to 45%
-Trigger stealth have 4 keep dpsing him
-Have the first spark runner hand in 4 sparks and leave the last spark (do not aggro it) and then run back to the boss
-He ll probably be over 50% again when he destealths-Bring him to 45% make sure the first spark running is close to the remaining spark ready to turn in it
-Trigger stealth
-Turn in the 1 spark it should destealth her
-All dps-When he goes stealth again both spark runners go hand in sparks while the rest keeps beating up on him in stealth (work together so you dont reset sparks and cover more ground)
If done correctly and without bugs you should be able to eat away at his hp during the nonstealth phases just enough to get him down in a couple of nonstealth phases. If he goes above 50% either your dps sucks or your spark technic need work.
I ve done this with very low dps groups, but it does require a bit of practice and people need to make sure not to go down from the aoe fields/stun.
Good luck and sometimes the sparks bug a bit so just work with it and eventually you ll get it.

For us at our best try she went away to heal at 25% ,after that at 15% and after that at 10% and after that at 5% and after that at 2%………….. and after 2% at 5% again and after some time we ran out of the 32847239847238947234 orbs we have collected in advance :-) I don’t want to count on not encountering bugs, I’m just not that lucky, ever. I saw a Youtube video, where they had worse dps than our party and they still managed to down him after a single healing phase and it was not a matter of better spark management.
