We already have a skill on downed where our pet gets us up, and so does another elite when time right, the spirit. The active should do something else. Like buffs on your pet are transferred to nearby allies or something.
You guys are naivë to think that pet rez on downed would stay in the game after the release of an elite skill such as this :-)
I would pay 5000 gems for a Norn t3 medium set that has nice flaming effects & can be dyed properly to vibrant colors.
~~ The idea to have a booster that only works on existing T3 pieces is excellent. ~~
I use an offhand axe quite alot, axe 5 is a good reflect/aoe/dmg skill & axe 4 is nice aoe also when used in open spaces. (Frostfang)
It would be fantastic if the next 10 medium armor sets released weren’t trench-coats.
I bet they are real too, but this means they are taking the pet rez away from the downed bar.
If you guys are watching the streams, you probably know that those guys are more than capable of coming up with tentative descriptions such as these & and they have someone to correct the descriptions for them.
I wouldn’t expect new pets before the data disk :-), let’s hope I’m wrong. The skin idea is nice I would go for it, but rangers are a minority..
Hammer. 15 characters ~~~~~~~1
Let’s also double, wait no triple their HP pools!
wish they fixed this already -_-
It’s also called a ‘rallybot’ (you have zero defense.)
If you enjoy this playstyle, maybe try a staff ele.
If you are dying all the time with a selfish 1500 range build like this you are doing something VERY wrong, then again many players running this are new-ish to the game, so fumbling around in fractals is normal.
Drakes are good in fractals. Spiders are sometimes the second choice (be careful with poisonfields if your party is stacking might or using waterfield heal pick up a Devourer instead). Cats are the best in most other dungeons or some easier (less AoE) fractals.
I use cats, whenever feasible. I started this topic, because I thought I might need to rethink my ranged pet choices.
Hi!
I’ve been using ranged pets a lot in fractals in situations where melee pets are less than stellar. I’m wondering however which one does more damage, I don’t see a lot of difference, but google didn’t help come up with an easy answer, so I thought I’d ask before I attempt any form of more serious testing. Thanks in advance!
Tbh I love this new flame-kissed as well. I wish we had medium armors like this, but it seems the art team loves trenchcoats …
Currently if we use two bloodlust sigils (one in main & offhand) we get 2 stacks of bloodlust / kill. Is this going to be unchanged?
Did they drop the whole “you can dodge while autoattacking with sword” thing or does this not count as a part of the balance patch?
Yes, but JonPeters said it might not make it for the next balance patch. :-)
“We’ve got quite a few more things coming, but are unable to talk about them at this time. Soon.”
"
Are any of these “unable to talk about things” affecting the skill/weapon balance in a major way?

Aren’t the profession changes a bit too few? Can we expect anything else added to this list?
I don’t know if its a bad precedent, it depends if they allow for refund for the old items or not.
Why would they though?
If I buy the same car next year that you bought today I might very well get something extra with said car.
That said, I do wonder why they suddenly decided to add this, especially since it says nothing about it in the description, which makes me wonder if it is a bug.
Wouldn’t you feel cheated if your 3 month old phone (spanking new state of the art model too) got replaced with an improved model for the SAME price ?
I don’t know if its a bad precedent, it depends if they allow for refund for the old items or not.
I wonder what would happen, if I tried to get a refund on my bone pick.
Yea I was disappointed too. The weapon and armor designer of the game are terrible, REALLY TERRIBLE. They are unable to create cool weapons or armor sets, just once every 10 pieces is a “ok” one and 1 of 100 is a WOW one.
They should fire them all and ask random gamers about weapons >_> It’s terrible to see all those “reskins” wich are probably made within an afternoon …
They have to create weapons that sell, which means they need to be shiny, comically oversized and generally more appealing to the younger crowd (which is the largest demographic in the game, I think).
I think they did a very good job with the ascended weapons/armors.
In the middle ages people used 60-70" swords in real battles. In a game where things can be made weightless & more powerful by magic it makes sense that the more prestigious weapons are big & shiny. I don’t think this has anything to do with age. Also while GW2 is very beautiful by mmo standards there are still some limitations, making a very detailed short & thin sword would be a waste, since not only would we need to zoom in to see anything, but the texture resolution would be evidently low.
(in case your wondering I’m 27 years old & I like big & shiny stuff)
Jon Peters finally promised some changes
If you look around there are hints all over. I’ve figured out quite a bit from different interviews with staff and quotes they drop here and there to get a rather decent idea how this new world boss is gonna work. http://massively.joystiq.com/2014/01/14/exclusive-preview-of-guild-wars-2s-origin-of-madness-release/
No new features, or rewards are listed.
I think most ppl prefer to see the rundown. Those that don’t shouldn’t click the “read more” :-). I personally hope the lack of the rundown is not going to become a recurring event.
Sword [PvE] : The auto attack root is incredibly jeopardizing and the long delay on #2 and #3 make them unsatisfactory as replacement dodges in many situations. Please consider changing for PvE. There is little to no upside to the root effect. Rarely any enemies will run away from you in PvE and if they are you can just run to them normally.
This is my main issue also. Working around it is certainly possible in many situations, but it makes no sense to me that I need to wait for a leap animation to dodge, when sometimes I’m literally standing inside the mob I’m attacking.
Keep in mind that many players came from WoW, or similar games where the dps meter was everything, with a background like that we are kind of hard-wired for maximizing dps.
The topic opener has many valid points, but after more than a year of zerker meta I don’t see how this can work out well for the game. I find it extremely unlikely that anet would rework all the normal dungeons to support less dmg heavy setups. Way too many bosses with insane HP pools, I don’t even want to attempt them with a team that has 40% less dps than what we we have now, it would be just more boring than ever.
Also I just spent 600g on ascended zerk Armor. It’s really fantastic timing to start messing up the zerker status quo, just when ppl had time to farm for ascended armor. I’m fairly sure I’m not the only one with this potential problem.
where?
a-net got no dungeon team..so where they work on content like this..more living story!?
buhh huh its so hard ><and the problem on sword ranger is more the doge timing, it´s much harder to play like an ele
Rip Robert Hrouda. :-)
I think so too, the dmg on the sword ranger is more than fine, anyone who thinks it’s not probably never played it with the right spec & while saying that “auto-attack is not very intuitive gaming” is certainly true, I will always try run the most efficient build, I don’t care if it’s only auto-attacking, or if its a complex rotation as long as it’s the best for the team.
That build doesn’t contribute anything to the team except some vuln stacks and some condi removal.
Well, it does bring one thing… One thing Rangers don’t… They kill kitten a hell of a lot faster!
but it still brings enough to the party to make it worth bringing one ranger.
You’re kidding yourself.
I’ve done speed-clears where we had a zerk necro & I still firmly believe that the ranger is a much better option. You are the one kidding yourself if you think the necro does substantially more dmg then a zerk ranger with the right spec with sword and a cat pet. Not to mention what happens if the ranger is the designated FGS holder, but tbh LH is also worth it…
….When you pug you learn not to rely on hypothetic buff others might give and only on yourself ….
This selfish reasoning is one of the reasons many pugs being bad & also ppl writing “no rangers” on lfg.
well if sword is actualy this bad in pve why are people even using it in the first place. ……… I dont care what damage sword does i run longbow and axe for maximum hit per second ……….
We use sword as you phrased it “for maximum hit per second”, Axe & Longbow is not even remotely comparable.
How about a compromise. No leap when you are standing inside your target xd
For pve definitely Norn. The leopard transformation is extremely good for more difficult skips, like in arah.
I have Dreamer, Frenzy, Bolt, Howler. I don’t like Kudzu at all, so that’s a no no for me.
This is an excellent idea for pve, problem is there is no pve/pvp slit yet, maybe this year!
This is only useful for recovering very expensive +1x agony upgradest at this point. If they made a permanent version though that would be fantastic for replacing sigils for specific dungeons etc… I would buy that for 5k gems.
If you are doing a speedclear (meleeing with sword) the sweet spot is around 90-95% crit chance with banner+food. (assuming your party is able to stack might properly)
This is not fair to the ppl that put hard effort to climbing the “leaderboards” …
I think they have a group of art interns making a plethora of skins every day and one of them made these & they decided not to scrap them. The gem thing is probably a motivation too, but bear in mind that anyone who can dish out 400-600 gold for ascended armor is going to be able to buy 6 transmutation crystals with gold..
Some ranger discussion.
Main-hand sword
I just want to clarify for good that main hand sword is currently working as intended. All movement skills cannot be interrupted by dodging and this is currently intentional. It has a very specific play style, and I would like it to remain. I understand that rangers want a one handed melee option that is more mobile, but that will have to wait, as I know there are a mix of players who also like how this weapon plays and I do not want to take away one of the more unique playstyles that we have and replace it with something that is fairly common. Thanks,
Jon
I’m yet to meet a ranger that would prefer the way it currently plays over how for example the guardian sword works in PVE. Making this optional via a trait would solve this for the most of us.
(edited by Sina.9208)
Let’s say that I accept that this “leaps uninterruptable thing” is intentional. Why is my character leaping when I’m standing almost inside the mob then? I guess a simple solution for this would be the ranger not leaping below a certain distance :-)
“2. Agree. Right now the only way to interrupt the chain is by swapping weapons. Give dodge the same priority as a weapon swap – issue solved.”
No it wouldn’t be solved entirely, we would still have an average half second delay on our dodges, still not satisfactory in a game that could be called Dodge Wars. The current workaround with auto off+ button mashing gives me the same thing you described just with more hassle.

Or the sword animation rooting..
This issue has been on our hotfix list. Enjoy the fury while you have it. x.x
I wish sword 1 dodge problems were on the hot fix list too, its more important in my opinion….
Please fix this
Please fix the icons for Infinite Light+Wings of Dwayna, I tried to salvage them by accident on multiple occasions…
(edited by Sina.9208)
Looks like Jon didn’t get a fix for the 1h sword…
Patch after patch the first thing I do is trying to dodge mid animation, always the disappointment ://
I’m waiting for this as well, also wondering if buying the 65AR for 50 (and finishing it) was a waste of time or not…
I sense that crafting a full set will cost like 600 gold… (200g to level, then 60g a piece and that’s optimistic) I can only hope that I won’t need to grind 3000 pieces of dragonite ore for this, that would be real bad … I’m quite good at farming gold, but this is not promising thus far :-(
