The time could be used to FIX bugs or ADD new stuff to the game. Even the Super Adventure Box is a WASTE of resources and time when you all could use the time to MAKE CONTENT RELEVANT to the storyline on Tyria. Make a new dragon appear or some new dynamic events that actually did PERMANENT change to the world of Tyria or something!

Yes, the Molten Alliance storyline is cool and all, but if you all could just stop wasting time on making a Mario Brothers wannabe in 3D, you all could have make the Molten Alliance storyline even better.

There’s always an ungrateful pup in the mixed. Just because you think it a waste, Anet didn’t and neither did the players who enjoyed it.

I am not ungrateful. I only asked why they wasted resources and time on it. If I am ungrateful, I would have phrased my post differently and most swearing or kittens..etc.

And I did not say dislike it SAB or the flash game. In fact, I love it (SAB), had a great time running around with other pugs but that is another matter altogether.

Then it wasn’t really a waste then was it. Your “fun” was the reward. So if time invested =fun, I’m missing the point of this entire thread. Unless your saying they wasted time on making something you enjoyed. Which, well, makes this all very confusing.

Because it is not relevant to the context of the storyline. Had they posted something like the Mad King or Winsterdays which are actually LORES in the world of Tyria, then it would had not been a problem, but it make no sense for SAB.

Yes, I have fun with SAB, but that is another matter for me.

Work on what I want? Like they making Staff Ele more playable? I wished. But they will never do it unless I own Arenanet. No. It has nothing to do with what I WANT.

I was talking about the RELEVANCE of the content and also why they choose to waste resources and time putting up content like SAB and also the mini flash game that is not in the game?

The world is fair. Right. If the world is fair, Eles would not be the worst class in GW2 and Thieves won’t be that overpowered. Or Engineers will not be as useless as it is now…etc.

And I am sure the devs get to be with their family, as we don’t pay a subscription so they probably work normal working hours and having normal weekends. So, no, I am not telling anyone what they should do or not do on their free time, I am only telling Arenanet to stop wasting resources and time on UNRELEVANT content.

Did you even read my post? Sab was made by 3 people that don’t work on departments that could have made anything you want and the flash game was not made during WORKING HOURS.
Now to your other points:
1. Ele is not broken. I mostly play my ele with summoning different weapons and boy do they hit hard.
2. Engi doesn’t feel weak. Not if you’re able to build your engi correctly. You know what’s weak? Try a necro.
3. I told you how Sab can be weaved into Tyria. You still decide that it’s irrelevant.
All I’m hearing from your posts is “Do what I want, weeee!”. Please stop. You’re not a kid anymore, you don’t get to whine like a little baby.

I did read your post about how SAB can be weaved as a platform for Asuran’s to do virtual fighting. I would have agree if it wasn’t that cartoonish to begin with. And I doubt Asuran technology is only 8bit.

My want’s demand are posted on the Elementalist forum. I only shout “Do what I want, weeeee” there, not here. Like for example “I want meteor shower to have a shorter cooldown, do it NOW NOW NOW.”

I only “whine” because Arenanet in my opinion put out a content that does not reflect the lores and also the storyline content of the current storyline arc. It is like that black sheep in a group of white sheep. Kinda something like that.

And I am not unhappy that the devs are doing extra with the free time, but at least do it within the context of the game instead of diverting to showcase something that is not relevant to the content of the game. And yes, these devs are not the people in the starting 11. I get it. Geez.

The only thing I don’t get is when they put content that is so out of the ball park that it is just totally unnecessary in the storyline.

Telling Anet to stop “wasting resources and time” and citing a project that was done entirely in someone’s spare time for it is, yes, dictating what people should be doing with themselves and is extremely entitled of you to say.

How are we defining relevance? Relation to the Living Story? That’s a new thing, what was relevant before? How do we define the relevance of the other holiday events? Relation to the Personal story? That’s pre-every GW2 event that has happened since. Relevance to the people working on it? It’s a holiday event, it’s totally relevant for the holiday people to work on it (in fact, they have been added to the Living Story team now, so they’re even going to get to add new content to the world outside of events like SAB! Aren’t you excited).

I am failing to see how SAB, something that actually used Anet resources, is “irrelevant”, except maybe irrelevant just because you don’t like it.

Wintersday and The Mad King are all lores in the world of Tyria right?

So I am trying to decide between Warrior or Necromancer. I love up close very high damage and nice survivability; however, I love the Necromancers second life thing because you can survive longer and love to use dual daggers on necro. So if anyone could help me out here it would be gratefully appreciated.

And yes i have played both and like both, but only want to work on getting one to level 80.

Also I am more solo until end game then i like to group up in wvw and stuff. Heard that mesmers might be good, but I do not know

Why don’t you do both to level 80? It’s not hard to get to level 80 even if you only play 5 hours per week or 1 hour per month for example.

I have 6 level 80 for each classes with the remaining two still leveling.

Anyway, necro is nice to play less boring than warrior. And the minions make you into like a small army.

SAB is fun. I get it. I like to play it too. But in the context of the storyline and the world that Tyria is in, it makes no sense at all to having SAB.

asura are building teleporters and golems and you think it’s unrealistic for them to build a virtual space where their apprentices could practice combat?

About the question on how do I know it is a waste of resources and time. The time it takes them to put SAB and do all the stuff for the flash game, even if it one devs doing it, you still waste resources on bandwidth, fixing SAB’s bugs and some other stuff. Maybe it doesn’t take them much resources or time, but it is still a waste when you can sure hell use that time to do RELEVANT contents like making Queen Jennah have an instance of having a molten alliance messenger conveying a message of surrender or die. FOR EXAMPLE.

1. SAB was made by a group of about 3 people that were responsible for holiday events. Their department doesn’t work on dungeons, it doesn’t work on bug fixing, their department doesn’t work on any of it
2. The flash game was made by a developer at his FREE TIME. I know that you want all people to be slaves for you and work on what YOU want while sacrificing time they could’ve spent with their family, but sorry, the world is fair and you don’t get to tell people what they should and shouldn’t do on their own free time.

I understand some peoples hatred of these old style games, your entitled to your opinion. But personally I want my son to know in 10 years what a cassette was, what a sega genesis was, original computers taking up entire rooms. It is part of our history just as much as presidents, wars, or heck even Twinkies… Younger people these days lose appreciation for what they have because it is the “beginning” to them. They started off with a PS3 or a flat screen. Most of them don’t know that we used to need 5 or 6 people to help us move our living room TV to a new house or apartment. Or that you had to blow in the NES cartridge to get it to work half the time. Taking time to teach the history of where things came from says a lot about us as parents, as educators, as designers. We bring back to the world what many have lost or never experienced. And for that I’m thankful to the devs for giving us a piece of history that so many forgot. Before fancy 3d images, before you were complaining the blood spatter doesn’t look real enough, and before we were role playing characters so real we sometimes forget we are playing a game at all. They all came from a more humble beginning, and I think that is important to remember.

As far as I can tell a cinematics person volunteered to do this for everyone. I highly doubt someone of that caliber needed much time to make this little game, and that it took nothing away from GW2. People really need to lighten up, and heck this time it isn’t even in the game. So it is entirely avoidable for those who can’t appreciate others work, or just do not like the game.

Ok, seriously, I am not hating this 8bit or 80s game thing. I grew up with Mario Bros and Zelda/Link…etc. Played enough of NES/SNES.

The point is that Arenanet choose to give us content that is NOT RELEVANT to the game storyline. When GW2 is only like 8 months old. Maybe in MMO years, 8 months is equivalent to 8 years? I don’t know.

SAB is fun. I get it. I like to play it too. But in the context of the storyline and the world that Tyria is in, it makes no sense at all to having SAB. If Arenanet had come up with a Molten Alliance dungeon type instances like the Braham’s and Rox’s storyline, it would be better in my opinion.

Wouldn’t it had been better towards the storyline? Making the tension and feel of the clear and present danger of the Molten Alliance more vicious and dangerous to the people of Tyria. (FOR EXAMPLE).

Or some idiot in the Molten Alliance actually siege the Black Citadel. (FOR EXAMPLE).

There is lot of other stuff that can be done other than put out a game in a game that has nothing to do with GW2 in the first place.

Funny how people complain even when developers add free content in their spare time. You’d think they’d be happy that they were working on the game when they’re not working on the game.

Guess some people are never happy.

It depends on what kind of content they are doing in the first place. Like making a Zelda wannabe / Mario 3D…etc…. Instead of doing something relevant to the game or storyline or even functionality.

And before you even shout that this is all given for free. Yes, I know, it is free. I should happily take what is given. If that is the case, why don’t we start paying USD15 – 20 every month from now on so that Arenanet can get the money they want and we get the content we want? Are you willing to start paying like WoW?

GW2 is a great game. Awesome game I have played in decades. I am 34 btw. I would willingly part with USD15-20 or even 30 every month for Arenanet to post more content. Like the Molten Alliance storyline…etc. The Lost Shores storyline would have been better if it had some major plotline related to the main plotline of Tyria.

Sorry about making another thread about this.

And no, about me wanting what I want, I would have said so clearly. Like I want my Ele to be OP NOW. For example. Or I want all thieves to be less OP NOW. Another example.

This is about why adding content that is not relevant to the storyline or even the game. Sure, it is to showcase the Asuran’s technology or what not, but it is not necessary. Why don’t they just add more stuff to the Molten Alliance storyline? More DEs for the Molten Alliance? Like them mounting a siege on Hoelbrak or the Black Citadel? Or their fierce unknown leader reveals itself in a brief moment to warn the Norn’s and the Charr’s they are next on the extinction list.
Or Divinity’s Reach gets some unexpecting visitor’s where the Queen is given an ultimatum to surrender or see Divinity’s Reach burned to the ground. Or the Sylvari’s Mother Tree got attack and is injured. Or the Asuran’s High Council got wiped out in a surprised attack…etc FOR EXAMPLE.

Instead, we get them attacking small village, guarding portals that are not even near a city or town, eavesdropping with no apparent motive except for us players to collect audio logs for the Monthly achievements.
Braham’s and Rox’s storyline is awesome, with Braham’s having the best storyline so far. They should waste their time on these storylines.

As for add new content being things that I want, are you sure you all don’t want new content? Like a new dragon and stuff? Aren’t those also things some of you all want? Fixing bugs? isn’t this everyone wants Arenanet to address all the time? How come it becomes things that I want?

Like I said, if I want something I want, I will say it clearly. Like Elementalist should stopped being nerf to kingdom come! or thieves should stop being given preferential treatment, i want the AoE 5 person limit to be lifted, or I want staff ele to get a boost in damage or shorten cooldowns…etc for example.

I played a staff ele. And it is not easy. I refused to go D/D because I like ranged magician class. But, since arenanet hates ranged and only want people to go face to face and then flip flops on face to face combat, I don’t know what to think anymore. Maybe I will be just a statue in Lion’s Arch as the last few remaining Ele using a staff……. sad …..

I played an ele 1 month after launch till now…… most underpowered class. I also have characters with the other 7 class. My warrior is underequip and still can go up against lots of enemies SOLO. My mesmer can take down Minor Champions without breaking a sweat. My thief is for testing purpose and I hardly have any problems with lots of enemies. My ranger with is RANGED weapon and PET gets the job done most of the time without the need to run and hide. My engineer is a as squishy as my ele, but dies less times than my ele. My necro is like a powerhouse that can help weaken and take out many enemies all at once and I have not fully equip her yet. I am still leveling my guardian and it been very easy so far….

yup, I agree with the OP. Risen Chickens drop better loots than the Dragonchests….I have only gotten a couple of yellows from the chest, but I got more from the chickens…..seriously…. may as well not waste time at the dragons.

I think the damages will be exponentially reduce.

For example Meteor Shower:
Example:
First hit – 1000 damage
Second hit – 500 damage
third hit – 250 damage
fourth hit – 125 damage
fifth hit – 62.5 damage
and so on…..

That is what I am expecting for meteor shower.

The other AoE also will be exponentially reduce damages over time or something like that….. it will happen……..

we all can discuss until the world ends tomorrow and the devs will still nerfed us elementalist. So, I think it is a good idea to just live with it.
Like i said before, if WvW spam AoE because of us ele AoE, so, if 5 ele was originally used , then after the nerf, we just use 20 eles to compensate for the lost of the AoE nerfing.

If dungeons AoE spammage is the problem, then we try to use it as much as possible. Let the metrics show that we will not be affected by the nerf.

That is if everyone wants to continue playing an ele after the nerf. Or, everyone goes bunker still even after the nerf and show them nerfing does not compensate for skill of the players…

Should I Play an Elementalist?

I may be late, but here is what I think. To your question “Should you play an Elementalist?”

My advice is NO.

I played an elementalist as my main and it is one of the weakest profession in the game. My other characters like my Necro, War, Ranger, Guardian, Thief, Mesmer all played easier than the ele. Ele dies twice as much many times, get one-shotted even with best eq for any said level, taking on veterans, elites takes a long time to kill. Champions is almost impossible to kill alone.
Many eles skills have long cast time and can’t attack while moving. And even if you managed to cast, the enemy will have already moved away. You have to PREDICT CAST your skills on spot where you think the enemy will walk into.
Yes, D/D build is now the best ele build for Ele, but not everyone wants to run a D/D build. Like me, I like my staff. I like my meteor shower. Even though meteor shower does not hit a single enemy too many time, it is good as a crowd weakener but can’t finish the job unless we have backup or wait for the Cooldowns to finish the job or use auto-attack and kite like hell.
Yes, eles have 20+ skills over 4 elements, but unless you are quick on your fingers and switch from one element to another, any mistake may cost you dearly.
Unless you want to play an adrenaline pack time and some frustration, then play an ele. If you want easy play, then don’t play an elementalist. If you want to kill your enemy without moving most of the time, then play a war, thief or guardian. Unlike an ele where you need to move and kite around, playing a war, thief or guardian you can basically stand without moving and kill enemy or enemies. I have taken out more than 10 enemies with my warrior without dodging or moving away and that is with normal crafting equipment (blue and some greens) when leveling. I can’t even do that for my ele during leveling.

At level 80, my ele is using exotics and still get one shotted many times, my warrior is only using rares and greens and have only goes down when facing super champions mobs, other than that, i hardly have to worry about my warrior going down.

Hence, playing other professions, I feel they are boring as hell. Only my ele is exciting to play with. Yet, ANet likes to nerf eles, so if you start playing an ele, you will get frustations after frustrations. So, NO is my advice.

Let’s not talk about whenever Elementalist deserves a nerf or not.

No matter what we say or you say or who say in this forum, I expect a nerf will come, amid fire and brimstone or stealth or whatever.

Deserve it or not, does not matter. As ANet already decided, we will have to take it no matter how bad or worst it turns out. If they nerf AoE for elementalist, we will continue using AoE. If 5 ele was used to spam AoE, now we double up and use 10 ele to spam AoE. Or 20.
Dungeon run AoE spam? continue using AoE. Effective or not, still do it. (Not for speed run of course.)

I don’t think so. WvW tacticians are using meteor shower in stacking. And to ANet, this is not a valid tactics in their opinion. But they fail to realize, in a WAR, you utilize your soldiers to get the best outcome. This is the mark of a good tactician. If the enemy can’t counter it, it is because they can’t think of something else to counter it. These people only know how to charge head first into combat without thinking if it is a trap or not. If because AoE is the reason many zergs are not getting past a certain point, it is not because spamming AoE. It is because these zergs have a useless commander who rely on “sheer numbers” instead of tactics. If you can’t get past a point because the enemy is spam bombing, then retreat and think of some strategy. If you cannot do that, that mean the commander title is not meant for you!

It like in a war, if you know the enemy if coming through to an area, what would you do? I would set up multiple machine guns turrets, some bazookas..etc…. I see the enemy, I shoot. I shoot and shoot! Do I need to stop? Sure, if no more enemies run in, I will stop. Then what do I do? Nothing I just wait. If more enemies run in, shoot some more.

Of course the enemy general won’t be that stupid to fall for the same trap over and over. They would think of something else or some strategy to counter it. And they don’t have anyone to complain about the enemies tactics of spamming bullets at that at choke point.

So, what to do? Call in the airforce. ( i know, some will say in WvW, there is no airforce.)

Wait, why are you all not seeing the picture here? In WvW, it is not a war? And can you tell me when you see an enemy downed, what you do? 2 things, you “finished Him” or you continue attacking him until he dies. If their teammate came running and rezzing him, do we stop attacking him and let them rez? Do we show them mercy and run away? Why can’t I just cast an AoE to take them all out? Is this a WAR? or is this War but please show mercy and compassion? Tell me please. Because if this is not a war and we need to show mercy to the enemy, then why WvWvW? Why force us to fight against other players? We are not allowed to do this, do that. Just because we don’t want to use the “Finished Him” animation, you think this is a reason to nerf this, nerf that.

Tell me if you have enemies in front of you, do you say ‘Oh, they are saving their comrades, let’s show some mercy."

So, when you are downed, will they show you any mercy and just let your teammates revive you before attacking back?

this whole reason about casting AoE on downed players is like forcing you into using that stupid “Finished Him” animation.

I find that using that “Finished Him” animation most of the time is useless. I rather continue hitting a downed player with auto-attack. It gets the job done only slower. Because most of the time, you have to “finished Him” at least twice before you can actually land it, by that time, other teammates would have already swamped you.

Ya’ll way too doom and gloomy. Elementalists are in a great state right now, see what the changes mean before you get your panties in a twist.

History has proven otherwise. So, we already expected the worst and even more. Patches after patches, it is just nerf,nerf,and more nerf. There was never much buff. Just fixes (not to be mistaken as buff).

You can really see why the elementalist are up in arms. just because people know how to utilize their soldier for battle and those without a tactic and charge into choke points in WvW, means they don’t know how fight a battle. I have seen many commanders in WvW just run their zerg head on into the enemy because their only tactics is “Win by sheer numbers”. There was once a zerg was lead into a trap and got wipe. Is this tactics or is this AoE spammage? So, now I guess the situation will change from using elementalist to using several arrow carts and some warriors to finish the job for the above scenario. So, the zerg still got wipe with or without a group of elementalist. Cool. Next, you will see, “Arrow cart cooldown is being increase from xsecs to ysecx”. Because people still don’t know how to use tactics or strategy in a war.

You tell me? Better yet, someone with REAL battleground experience in the Gulf War or some WW2, Vietnam War vets who plays this game please explain what is the tactics used when trying to defend a choke point.

And when trying to finish a downed player, why can’t I finished him without doing that stupid finishing animation? If you want people to do that stupid finishing animation thing to finished off a down player, then I suggest you make downed state immune to attacks until someone do that “Finished Him” thing.

And besides, it is a WAR. Why must we give mercy in a war? Will they give mercy to me when I am downed? No. They will swamped over my downed body and finished me off.

So, tell me ANet, if WvWvW is not intended to be a war and we must show sportsmanship or mercy towards the enemy, then you all should list down a dos & don’ts for WvWvW.

For example:

1. No tactics can be used other than face to face combat.
2. Spamming AoE on downed players is forbidden. You must used the “Finished Him” option.
3. Chokepoints must not be defended. No battles are allowed near choke points
4. Use siege weapons only during a keeps/garrisons siege. Other forms of attack will or may result in a kick.

The ele community must really be traumatized, the amount of preemptive tears here is amazing.

I mean, nobody here doesn’t even know what they plan to do with AoE. “Reduced effectiveness” – how does that translate directly to reduced damage? It means only that they think (correctly, btw) that AoE in this game is too abundant and that it reduces gameplay to AoE spammage, which it does.

Since there are many classes which have AoE skills, this more than likely means that they will change those skills in such a way that:

a) some of the AoE skills will be now more geared towards single target damage with reduced AoE effects
b) AoE skills will have requirements making them unpractical to use in every encounter (which probably means longer setup times, or preconditions requirements and so on)

Just reducing AoE damage is the single worst way to do it, and they haven’t mentioned such a move anywhere. I doubt they are so dumb to blanket nerf AoE damage when they have classes which are practically all AoE and other classes which would hardly get touched by the nerf at all.

You must be quite optimistic on how ANet will be handling it. Playing an ele as my main for 3 months, I can say for sure my Meteor Shower did not finished off players in WvW nor did it help much in many situation.

I expect ANet to really murder the Elementalists by nerfing the AoE. To them it is too effective, but to us playing Eles, it is not as effective as it seems to be. Sometimes, I wished some of our skills have a shorter cast time and shorter cooldowns, because of the 2-3 secs casting time it takes to actually cast the skill in the first place. And not everytime AoE hits because targets MOVES away. So, tell me if that is not already bad enough. I sometimes have to predict where the target will be running into and it is like a 50-50 chance I get it right. So, tell me if AoE is effective at all. Single target? One example is single target tend to dodge most of the AoEs attack and there is no point casting meteor shower on a single target most of the time, unless you cast it first, which you may or may not even get a hit in because the target may have already move away or running towards you. So, tell me how effective is it at all on any single target?

AoEing to clear dungeons faster? You have got to be kidding me. Like for example if we don’t AoE the gravelings in AC, we
1. get swamped
2. kite like it is CoF P2.

Then again, AC most of the time is we skip the gravelings.

As for other dungeons, AoE hardly does much. The only contribution worth mentioning for an Ele is CoF P2 final boss.

And besides, if I am playing a staff ele, at least 5-6 skills from different attunement are already aoe based. if I don’t use them, then I may as well just use skill 1 and kite around. Or better, I switch to my thief or warrior, why bother playing an ele in the first place when I can’t do much at all.

So, yeah, I am very pessimistic on how ANet will be handling it. As past patches are any indication, it only make me cringe in pain as to what they would do.

I feel this is no point as the devs are already dead set on nerfing it. But I will give my 3 cents anyways… just for the heck of it….. waiting for Borderlands 2 to finish downloading on steam.

1. Are AOE’s a problem? NO.
2. Have you complained about AOE skills? Yes. It’s too weak and pointless to use them on many situation.
3, Do you support the trash of AOE abilities? NO.
4, Do you want this game to go that the way of wow and have a nerf bat swing every month or so in the name of balance? NO. I thought we are trying not to be like WoW or any other MMOs.

This is unfortunate if true, I play a glass cannon staff ele and
the majority of times the enemy is on the move, and not
standing in your AOE. A nerf to it kinda surprises me, unless they
are doing this to nerf the power of 5 eles in WvW stacking.

When we get to the Profession balance part of the new patch notes it will be something like:

We are displeased that there are still people playing something other than Warrior in PVE and Thief in PVP, so the following changes will allow even more players to play these OP profs while avoiding the kitten ones. We felt this change is necessary because balancing two professions is easier than balancing eight.

The upcoming patches will practically mean:

Elementalist are now no longer a major profession in GW2. If you can find a way to play an Elementalist effectively, you may play one, but you are only limited to LA. Elementalist are banned from entering WvW and PvP. Dungeons now will auto-kick Elementalist from any party entering them.

I think I am done for MMOs. Since Ragnarok era, I have been playing the usual MMOs, GW2 promised me a different experience. Now, it has become another usual MMOs..

This game has one mentality, which is “we want you to play how WE want you to play.”
So much for trying not to be like other mmos, it is slowly becoming like other mmos. And to those who still are in denial mode, I hope you will wake up soon from the dream. Because the mother tree is actually a nightmare courtier in disguised!

When i started playing this game 1 month after it launch and rolled an elementalist, it was the best in my opinion at that time really a different MMO than the usual MMOs that I had played before this. Now, I am feeling it is turning back to the usual MMOs.

So, kudos to you ANet. I wonder where is your manifesto now? At the nearest landfill?

wait, if they want to make everything single target, then why don’t they remove all profession and make everyone make a warrior? That way, no AoE crap.

They need to remember, if I have a party of 3 eles and a warrior plus some other class, and we 3 eles spam meteor shower, is not intended gameplay to them, then why even bother letting us make our own party? then they should put:

1. Restriction of one 1 class per party.
2. Elementalist ban from entering WvW.
3. Elementalist ban from entering dungeon.
4. Elementalist only allow in LA.
5. Revamp all elementalist skills to be single target only.

or better yet, why don’t they just remove the profession altogether.

Meteor Shower really does not hit much. If you are lucky, you can get 5 hits in, if you are unlucky, you only get 1 hit in on a single target. And most of the time, I have seen my ele’s meteor shower hits like 2 times on a single enemy target. Since the TARGET MOVES. PvE or in WvW, Meteor shower hardly can get any kills at all. It’s staff skill 1 that gets the kills.

Well, anyway, after the patch lands and everyone got over their whining about Elementalist being OP due to AoE spam, you will see players roll other profession. Elementalist will be a rare breed after while.

And I would dread to see the “lfxm CoF P1 & P2, no elementalist” kinda call in LA

actually I don’t understand, dropping AoEs on players ressing other players is wrong now? It is a freaking WAR. Are you expecting a “time out” where everyone stops fighting for 10 minutes while everyone get their players up and continue afterwards? So, if this is the justification for nerfing AoE, then might as well ban elementalist from entering WvW. Better that way, since most of eles skill are AoE based.

I am predicting staffs will be like this:

skill 1 staff no longer will damage enemies standing near the target
skill 2 area of affect will be reduce
skill 3 fire burst will only hit your target only
skill 4 only 50% change to cause burning
skill 5 damage reduced by 30%

There you go, staff ele will practically be nothing more than a statue in LA.

AoE nerf for Meteor Shower is expected for me. So, time to re-equip my ele with some other weapons. Staff is a no-go anymore.

Meteor Shower may not even hit your target at all, at the randomness of the how the meteor drops. You can just be standing put in one place and get hit only once! How is that even OP is beyond me.

They just want to make WvW defending keeps/garrisons to use siege only and not a bunch of eles casting meteor shower to weaken the horde while the melee-ers charges into the horde!

I have already expected a nerf for meteor shower months ago, but they didn’t do it, now they are saying we are going to nerf it soon, so no point complaining about it anymore. Have to learn to live with the nerf.

Maybe it is time I change my staff ele to something else. No point doing staff now or dagger. Maybe I will go full support and stand at the back and heal,heal and heal. Oh, wait, AoE nerf. Heal AoE also affected. Cool, now how should I play my ele?

I have all classes as my char. I got my war, mes, ele, necro, thief, ranger to level 80. Now, left my eng and guardian still going up the levels.

And you know what? All plays rather differently. Not as stale as the OP or some other posters here mentioned. I roll and ele first and it was quite the experiences leveling it. And probably the most fun of all my chars. My warrior was the most boring of them all. Leap into battle and just hack away. My mesmer, I just scores of clones at the enemy that I didn’t even know it was dead until the prompt saying I need an enemy to use the skill came up. It was the second char that I like to play apart from my ele….. And for your information, I played my ele on fire attunement only from the beginning until someone pointed out to me that I need to switch between attunements…… that was when the ele gets even more fun….

So, if you want fun, play an ele and try to avoid getting one-shotted most of the time playing a full glass cannon build. heheheh…

So, far, I have only knocked on a few doors, most of the time I just tear down posters and talk to the NPCs supporting the separatist.

Actually, some already mentioned, the separatist actually attack you first after you knock on the door. If you don’t believe me or the others posters here, you can go do the quest yourself and knock on the door and see if the separatist will attack you first or not.

I think if you are on a Tier 1 or Tier 2 WvW server, most of the players would already be in their 80’s anyway. And the low level areas are mostly people farming and players leveling new character on these servers.

Lots of players feel they need new content to make them exciting since they already have done everything possible. That is all.

Population wise, there are probably all centered in WvW or Fractals. You will rarely see them on the maps. But i have known a few players on my friends list that have already quit and one a real life friend even said he is willing to let go of his account if anyone wants to buy it. And I haven’t seen him since. He said he has moved on to other games and work. Yes, this game is still alive at the moment.

So, you want to meet players, just hang out at Lion’s Arch, that is where most players hang out now.

I won’t go to Cursed Shore unless I have a reason to, and so far, I only went there for the JP and nothing else. No complains about it though, just not worth the time spend there and the Karka’s are not easy to kill. Even if some of the players here says they can do it blindfolded.

I just want to say about about end-game. In this MMO and also other MMO, there is no end-game. Only bragging rights.

Anyway, about the PvE. It is fun when you have a bunch of players doing the DE with you, but it boring when you are doing it alone. And many events are [Group Events], which are not easy for 1 character to do it. Most of the time, I had to run away from such event after trying to do it solo. Yes, I know there are people out there who can do these event with one hand tied behind their backs or do it without even seeing the screen as they would just say that and even post a video on youtube to prove it. They only failed to realize that not everyone are like thatm.

Anyway, I really didn’t notice the new content that much, except maybe some new DE’s that I never encountered before suddenly pops up when I arrives at the location. But it’s nothing interesting. And many PvE maps are basically empty. Except some famous location where people are there to farm to items because the chain events have tons of enemies to kill. Other than that, the PvE map is a ghost town most of the time. Most of the time, I just join in the farmers to do the event once, then leave them. It gets boring doing the same event over and over again.

ANet should add more events and better rewards for chain event that leads you from location A to location Z. At least you get the feeling of accomplishment. But at the current rate, killing a Champion dropping a white item or none at all is just heart wrenching. I have killed the Champion giant at Nageling town in Diessa Plateau at least 5 times, and I only got a white and nothing at all from the giant for all 5 encounters. So, every time I am there and someone called for help at map chat, I would not bother anymore. It’s not rewarding taking it down. And don’t say I don’t contribute anything for the fight, I do. I even run and revive down players while hitting it with clones (Yes, using a mesmer). And even use time warp and all shattered. I was even the first one to attack it as I arrived at the town after the call for help.

So, doing PvE is not rewarding at all. Hence, I only do PvE when leveling my character, other than that, it’s either CoF or AC dungeon, and sometimes HoTWs and Fractals. Still, this is a good game but with bad rewards system.

I am sure some people will disagree with me and say “I just got 10 exotics and 100 rares” just from several hours of doing PvE maps.

So? good for you and lucky you. I already clocked 1000+hours across all my characters, and I have only gotten several rares and 1 exotic a mace called Kevin. The rest are from dungeon tokens and TP and the Ancient Karka debacle refund of the ancient karka box.

Boss room. Problem solved. No ledges, no stairs, no holes, no pillars.

And I agree with the above about mobs chasing you through the entire dungeon, it will force players to kill them instead of skipping this, skipping that.

However, with that said, the dungeons need a revamp from the mobs hp pool, their non-stop no limit attacks (AC scavengers) to their insane damage. I mean, i understand a dungeon needs to be hard, but to make it a near impossible for players and forcing them to skip and use so called “environmental exploit”, then really the dungeons need a major revamping soon.

And please add the boss room. And make it melee only. All ranged weapons will be unable to work in the boss room. That way, players will have to go up-close and personal with the boss like some of you all are preaching that you need to get the compulsory hit from the bosses, if not, it is unfair if you don’t get hit.

So, please, add boss room. So that we can do some good old hack and slash just like the old days of Diablo 1 and 2.

Evil-Trahearne discussion thread

I can’t wait to see a “I told you so.” from players who predicted Trahearne is actually evil. Since you all wanted him to be evil and if ANet agrees with you all and really put out a plot twists like everyone wanted to in a future Expansion or storyline update.
Since you all “want” him to be evil, you may get this wish, in the future.

Don’t be silly, just because the players don’t like him Anet wont change their plans for him. If they wanted him to become evil, they would do it no matter what the players say. While Anet certainly listens to players concern over game mechanics, I can’t imagine them to change their story for that. The closest thing we got into that direction was including the Mursaat in a side quest in EotN after people wanted to see them again, and even that is debatable, the side quest could have been planned anyway.

Besides that, is there any official raction from Anet, addressing the overwhelming negative overwhelming over Trahearne? I mean it’s certainly disappointing for the people who came up with him, to see how loathed he is.

You know, when many of your player base wants something to happen, even if it by coincidences, it will happen, somehow. Because many are preaching that ANet listens to their player base. There is always that notion that if you complain enough, things will change kinda attitude. And sometimes it does happen like that.

Story may or may not change. But when storyline and money are involved. It will change to suit the money not the story. So, even if the person that created Trahearne intended for the storyline to be in a certain way, but was forced to change it to sooth some angry heads, do you think they won’t do it? For the sake of trying to make people happy?

In a real war, enemies had guns. The boss in AC path 1 doesn’t have anything to hit back. He simply sits there waiting for you to kill him……..

That is my point, why CAN’T i hit mobs from high places? Because 99.9% of players will start abusing it? Or because players needs to get hit and shot at. If having a ranged weapon is to face the boss on a FLAT land, you may as well remove all ranged weapon. Because it is compulsory for the boss to hit you, even though you are trying to dodge, run and do every manner to not get hit. The whole point of a battle is to hit your enemy and not get hit back. Hence, if I can use a tree to shoot a melee attacker, it would be a better strategy. Of course you are going to say that this is a game, and it is unfair for the boss not being able to hit back and so on. Unfair? Unfair to whom? The computer generated boss or to you or to those who did not use the environment to their advantage and just charge head on into a battle. That is what is going on in WvW with a zerg group, because you have the numbers, so you charge and mow down anything and anyone in your way. What happens if they have the same amount of players and they use STRATEGY to run your zerg down? Like for example lead your zerg into an ambush etc.. or shoot from HIGH places with dozen of arrows carts. Your ranged can’t shoot back, so you have to build treb to shoot at them. Of course they can shoot back, but you deploy eles to block the shots. Why don’t you let them hit your treb to be fair to them instead of deploying eles to block their attack? I am sure they also deploys eles to block your shots too.

So, in a battle, your objectives is to hit your enemy and avoid getting hit back. If standing on a ledge or stairs or behind pillars to avoid getting hit, it is clever use of the environment.

And, before any of your righteous people say that it cheapens the fight, I will ask you one thing. What is one of the Charr’s common phrase when you speak to them? "Win at any cost’ (can’t remember the actual phrase.
So, in a fight, you try to win at any cost. There is no honor or chivalry at all in fight. It’s either you die or your enemy die. Pick one.

Some of you all got this whole exploit and glitching thing wrong.
And exploit is like the CM mountain climbing. That is an exploit where you can jump straight into an invisible hole in the mountain and bypass lots of enemies which you would have to fight if you have taken the normal route. This is what you call an exploit. Walking through walls and jumping into holes that should not be there. Exploit.

Glitches are when you make the enemy stuck and unable to move. You may also call this exploit as you make your enemy unable to move and hit you.

As for the AC boss and the stairs, I don’t see this as an exploit because your are using the environment to give yourself an advantage. Hence, before you all scream again the word “Unfair”. Unfair to whom? To those who fight and die and pay repairs bills? To those who did not know how to use the environment to their advantage? Or to those who stand by the sword and die by the sword?

So, if you still adamant that this is an exploit, I have suggested making boss room. With no ledges, no stairs, no pillars, no holes no nothing. So, boss battle time , you would be transported to the room either square or rounded. And after the fight, a portal appears to transport you out. Problem solved. And we won’t have people screaming exploit every time someone finds a ledge or stairs and start shooting the boss.

And if you think all players should get hit, then a boss room also solves the problem. Give all bosses an AoE attack. 360 degrees attack with variety of damages, so that it doesn’t one -shot everyone. And, make the boss continuously spawn minions. So, even if you managed to dodge all the boss’s attack, you still cannot avoid getting hit from the minions. Problem solved.

Since using the environment is a big no-no in many of your books, then a boss room is the best solution.

or like I always argue, remove ranged weapons. No point having them. Human invented ranged weapon is because they don’t want to get hit from their enemies. In this game, it is compulsory to get hit.

So, ANet, if you are reading this, please make boss room for all dungeons bosses. So that no one can complain about so-call exploit when using the environment to fight a boss. Or remove ranged weapons. There is no point when I cannot shoot people from high places and not get hit back.

On a personal note, I don’t understand why must a player get hit during a fight? If a player can avoid getting hit, by dodging and running, it that call an exploit too? Or because the player has skills? So, using the environment to avoid getting hit is an exploit. Then, don’t put the tree there or even the stairs there. Problem solved.
