Bah. Well played Jd. Next time try 2v1 instead of 4v1?
Nono, was yesterday at garri. We had maybe 10 people there at a certain point. And later only part of out of the walls, like 5 maybe. I think your group had 20 and you must be so proud of killing us :P
(edited by Sirendor.1394)
I think 1.5k glory is perfectly fine because it requires about the time for 1 level as PVE does.
You serious? In PvE I could get 1 level in 10 minutes (with cof switching). In PvP, the queue usually takes 5+ minutes alone, victory is not even guaranteed and you only get ~700 glory (reward chest included) when you win team arena… How is that on par with PvE? I played normal hotjoin wednesday cause I was too tired waiting for the arena pop-up and earned 1,5k glory in like 2 hours (and won nearly every game).
I just wanted to stop by and let you guys know that we are listening. We’re looking at a few different ways to address the time investment it currently takes to get new skills in PvP, but it’s not something we’re able to talk about quite yet.
You’ll see a drastically different system in place in our next major rewards release that should address many of your concerns.
Maybe you could make tomes of knowledge cheaper? 500 glory/10s seems a lot fairer to me than 1,5k glory and 20s. That way you’d only need 25 tomes (12.500 glory and 2,5g).
The acquisition rate of skillpoints in PvP is like PvE acquisition/10 as it is. I don’t win every match I play and only Team Arena gives like ~700 glory on win, if you even manage to get a team… Tomes are only way a PvP player can get those skillpoints without going into PvE, so please nerf the cost.
Still rather vague whether skyhammer farm is an exploit or not (if not using birthday booster exploit).
Why would it be bannable if people decided not to kill eachother and cap points by turn? Same thing was happening with the PvP daily, for people who didn’t care about a fair fight or just wanted to get over with it quickly.
Bah. Well played Jd. Next time try 2v1 instead of 4v1?
- Log in: play Spvp on asura warrior hybrid and gank anyone in my path (literally, I can fight off 2-4 players a time).
- After a few matches, want to do some WvW
- Get ganked in WvW cause character isn’t level 80.
- Think about using one of my level 80s next time. Decide not to cause ‘need to level’.
- Log off and feel annoyed at the boring leveling system again.
Yeah… GW2 is the “best” competitive game… if only they had made everyone 80 in WvW like they did in SPvP.
Hooray for farmers and tp flippers. Please remove it from WvW or find an acceptable way of acquiring it.
That’s a good idea Dray. You could try.
I’m a little confused by the OP… what are you racing to level cap for, exactly? There’s nothing there waiting for you, no “end game” so to speak.
What am I missing?
… WvW. You’re worthless so long as you aren’t level 80 and have full exo.
Is this guy serious? :P
Is there any official response as to it being an illegal activity (i.e. exploit) or not?
Edit: I would like to know this for sure, cause it seems pretty much like any other farm in the game (such as champ trains) and I would do it if they say it isn’t an exploit.

Do away with Soulbound items in favor of account bound items, and you have a point.
And destroy plenty of markets in the process?
No.
Who cares about markets. Capitalists. Your loss.
Not sure if I’m supposed to laugh or cry now. You must be one of those 1% rich players.
Too busy playing SPvP.
Hey btw, any other Vabbian/Fissurian/Ridgian (don’t ask me) guilds in edge of the mists alpha?
Tomes of knowledge..
Maybe I worded it wrongly, the act of grinding is (to me) disgusting and players who do grinding lower the level of the game to that of an easy but very boring task which gets them everything they way. In no way grinding is admirable because it does not require any special ‘effort’ in sharpening your talents, but instead asks you to stop developing your competence.
To me, it’s okay if people spoil their lives on an activity of this sort, but players who do more remarkable things should be awarded as good or maybe better.
Our usual thought when a legendary is spotted is, “Hey, he thinks he is better than us, get him.”
Welll…. legendaries are just terrible fluff items meaning that particular player is very good at grinding. I can’t help killing those “legendary” people to show them who’s legendary.
I mean no offense, but it really sounds to me like how you got people bashing the rich all the time because they’re rich.
I could be ‘rich’ if I wanted to spent all my time in a champ train. I don’t want to be rich really because it’s not fun. Instead I have fun fighting people (I like challenging fights).
Of course they’re just playing the game their way, but in no way they deserve a legendary any more than anyone else. I know people who can fight 1v3 and win (I have done it in rare circumstances, but there are people who do it all day long). I think that’s worth a legendary.

edit: After reading the title, I notice we’re diverting off the topic very fast.
I’m not agreeing to warrior being strongest profession: it’s just the profession with easiest dps. The number of warriors I killed solo or in group… they’re a little bit of a pathetic class, but then, every class has a chance to be pathetic:
- Thief: OMG what a coward, he stealths when 5 people attack him (eh?)
- Mesmer: same thing
- Guardian: he’s good for nothing, all he does is running in circles soaking up damage (shout guardians don’t have the power to face-tank enemies)
- and so on and so forth.
Warrior just happens to be the one class able to do a large amount of burst damage, but a warrior on his own is a joke if he runs full dps:
- a tanky player can drain the GC very fast and keep his own hp high
- condis are sooo effective
- if you’re on a decent dps build (doesn’t matter what class), you can kill any warrior.

Keep an eye on PvP… else nothing afaic.
Ascended have only 1 “point” → Fractals.
A 1000 guilds have been invited. The guild i’m in is one of the biggest active WvW guilds currently on SoR with both NA and EU coverage, and yet not invited yet.
Really makes me wonder how much RNG Anet’s selection process is.
They pick a number based on a combination of properties I guess:
- gold tier servers
- silver tier servers
- bronze tier servers
- european servers
- american servers
- big guilds [200-500]
- medium guilds [50-200]
- small guilds [0-50]
I’m sure there are more criteria.
I do think that gold tier servers usually have more and bigger guilds (why they call them blob servers probably), which makes the chance for them smaller to be selected than a server like Vabbi (my server) which only has a limited number of guilds, most with 20 or less active members.
If someone dies in a situation where it will endanger our guild, we let them die. There’s no point in useless sacrifices for a pug who doesn’t know to stay out of red fields and expects to get a rez. Of course you need to try to rez people in other situations though.
I agree with rather not having pugs with us as a guild group, for a couple of reasons:
- they don’t know who to listen to
- they don’t have access to special communication (albeit voip or the guild chat)
- they don’t know the general ‘way’ of a guild (unless they’re experienced)
- they rally enemy players
- they attack gates before siege is placed
I think it’s not really unfair to say ‘please go your own way’ as a guild group. Either they join the group as a member (that will follow the rules of that guild), or they stay away from it. Nobody forces them to join.
There is a Vabbi border? I’ve never been there…
Totally.
Please don’t fear me again Rhazmandoo. :P Next time Banish will find it’s way to you. ^^
AND DON’T SCRATCH MY NAME
Rhazmandoo, Razmahdoodle, Rhazmadhuul… whatever you like.
You may have some more or less legitimate concerns right here but what it has to do with ANet hating warriors? If anything, warriors are still god mode in PvE atm and very strong in PvP as well. Unless your thread title is a bait, I dont see the correlation with issues you present in your post.
That’s why the title says: “A rant”. Good job.
“Mine,… all mine”
No way bch, mine!
Honestly I am bored with leveling. I just want to have fun.
yet you keep nerfing all sources of exp for leveling.
at one point I could level fast by crafting. But thats no longer the case.
Also champ zerging was very rewarding, but thats no longer the case.
hearts are very quest hub like, which is why I avoid them.
events are too inconsistent.
WvW is also too inconsistent.
I have got my engineer to level 51 now, and totally dislike the fact that I have to miss out on cool events simply because of an artificial number at the bottom of my screen doesnt match the number next to the zone name.
I am so tired of this same number preventing me from making the build that I want to play.
how many times I have to level up a character in this same world?
its so boring doing this.
Why is it that only SPvP allows its players to fully skip the dullness which is Leveling?
WvW scales level, but still not traited, nor equal in terms of gear. I dont mind the gear difference, But I do mind the lack of trait points, because that effect my build play style.
PvE also doesnt provide much in terms of level scaling up.
I like to PvE, but not like this, in which I feel forced to do something not fun against my will, just to unlock the fun features in the game which I have already paid for.
Leveled to 80
- asura engineer [deleted]
- sylvari warrior [deleted]
- charr thief [deleted]
- human ele
- human guard
- charr warrior
- charr mesmer
- asura thief
I had my share of leveling. Of course it becomes boring, since you have at the point I reached completed every single bit of content, multiple times. Personally, I would be very much okay with having an ‘level 80 instantly button’ after leveling 8. Crafting is not an alternative, because of the nerf of experience gained and the inflation causing prices to rise.
Oh btw: they are adding tomes of knowledge in SPvP. Should make leveling somewhat less of a nuissance.
(edited by Sirendor.1394)
We have different colours in makeover kits.
Playing since the beta, still haven’t finished personal story.
The story seemed quite bad for my taste.Oh boy since beta? :O
Lol me too. Highest I got was level 79 story instance, somewhere in orr.
Please don’t fear me again Rhazmandoo. :P Next time Banish will find it’s way to you. ^^
Of course the rewards aren’t on scale with PvE… but you shouldn’t expect them to be. Anet is taking baby steps on this matter. They don’t want to inbalance the community further and they surely don’t want to provide winners with easy means to victory.
The reason why WvW at this moment is so unrewarding, is that zergs are still the most lucrative. A commander and a blob of 50 people can easily earn 5x (if not 10x) as much as a solo roamer or a small group roamer. If 50v50 people clash in eachother, one side will win. This means, if you’re a good tagger, 30-40 bags of loot from killing one single zerg. This is immense compared to small scale:
- every 5-20 minutes you find a fight.
- most of the fights are <10 people.
- if more than 20 people attack your 5, you loose or have to run.
- you are able to cap a tower/keep once in a while, unless there’s zergs everywhere.
Despite this, a 5-man team often does more valuable work than a zerg: they cap camps very fast, they ninja towers within minutes and due to their small size manage to do it unnoticed. They often fight greater odds, and still win, which is admirable.
If they would make WvW lucrative on the level of a small scale roamer, it’ll mean a huge benefit on the level of a zerg, inbalancing the whole game. That’s the only reason I can offer.
Ok, I’ll play along. Why should they be? The WvW event was the perfect time to award the winning worlds with something extra special to draw more folks into WvW on a steady basis. Season 1 was a huge success as evidenced by the long que’s obviously due to PvE’rs (sarcasm off). Que’s meant folks were actually fighting to get into and participate regardless of reason in WvW. Instead of making a special gift for the winners thereby ensuring more active WvW into the future, the gifts were seen as lack luster, below what they give for PvE events, no special skins, no special titles aside from the everyone got veteran of the mists. The rewards even lacked a WvW element like badges, plans, serious gold.
Now, who knows if wvw will have the same draw going forward, the same fight for that special something. The Anet team gave high expectations and those expectations were deemed by a lot of folks to be under met. Did we read wrong Anet’s posts about the rewards? Did Anet honestly misunderstand what the clients desired? Many business’s have failed due to a disconnect between what management’s perception of a clients wish and the reality of said wish.
Honestly believe Anet could have done more with less, but special, than more with nothing special. Award the winners. Keep us motivated to WvW, to dethrone the winners, don’t give everyone the same ole stuff.
And if the winners got super awesome rewards season two would simply be: “Every single PvE:er stacks on the server that is most likely to win”, thus making it more or less impossible to get some sort of interesting matches and most people wouldn’t be able to play at all due to queues.
I agree and it would also mean that top servers will even be more stable in their position: more funds for accepting new people, more funds for BiS gear and so on.
But the fact that we got rewards at all, is quite enough.
One of the big mistakes we see from folks starting out on small man groups is the over use of defensive gear/builds. If you are running 5-10 you will spend a lot of time fighting larger groups and you need to kill folks fast, not whittle them down.
I agree, but you need to stay alive long enough in order to kill them. That means a mix of tanks and heavy dmg (even some glass cannons, as long as they know how to play). It’s a mistake to go full damage and no tank/support.
Support is one of the things a small group can not miss. A dedicated and skillful guardian healer can heal 5 people to full and still deal damage, add boons and do some crowd control through wards. This means those 4 other people can focus solely on the killing of enemies.

Instead of a hundred QQ threads about how bad the rewards are, what about a Thank You thread?
We’ve been playing wvw for over a year without rewards. Now we get rewards and people complain. I agree, the rewards aren’t “super”, but why should they be?
Most people in WvW ignored Living story because they didn’t like it. This season we could do what we liked and we even got a reward. The 5 tomes of knowledge were a nice boost, along with a little bit of Wxp, a funny dolyak and 100 dragonite ore.
I do have to say, I don’t plan on getting ascended through crafting cause I don’t have the money for it and playing WvW doesn’t earn me enough to level it.
So the dragonite is worthless to me.
That being said, I’m happy we did get something for doing the same thing as always (kill some players, dolyaks, sentries;.. cap some towers, keeps, stonemist). I’m also happy for the promise of accountbound wxp, edge of the mists and more. Thank you!
Was there really a need for yet another one of these threads?
We already have loads of these threads, why not write it in there?
Maybe because else his idea gets lost into a rage thread? Think before you speak, man.
On the topic. I was quite thankful for the reward (the fact that there is one). I mean, we’ve been playing wvw for over a year without rewards. Now we get rewards and people complain (I’m thinking the ones complaining are PvE people who only farmed achievements). A nice skin would have been appreciated though.
However: thank you Devon for doing such a great job with WvW. It took some time to get decisions going, but now they are coming and those of us who play WvW only are happy.
And I’m going to make a thank you thread.
Don’t get a tag, it attracts pugs like bees to honey.
Not if you want 5-15 anyways.
Any class at all if you are a decent player ‘AND’ have a build made for movement.
- Thief, stealth and away (50% extra movement, swiftness on dodge, infiltrator’s arrow, shadowstep)
- Mesmers: similar to thief
- Warrior: gs °3 & °5, swiftness on elite, swiftness on warhorn, leap on sword
- Guardian: Judge’s Intervention, retreat, greatsword n°3 leap, sword n°2 shadowstep
- Necromancer: swiftness on warhorn (cripple enemies), spectral walk, death shroud for extra tanking, signet of locust (25% movement)
- Elementalist: fiery greatsword: n°3 and n°4; staff n°4 air, dagger n°4 air, swiftness on heal while in air, signet giving extra movement speed too.
- Engineer: perma swiftness through kits, has stealth on elixir S (f1-f3), can stealth using smoke bomb + a blast.
- Ranger: don’t know, haven’t played at level 80.
WvW mostly. Sometimes dungeons with friends. Also got invited for edge of the mists so that will keep us busy.
Mhmm throwing a torch as far as a rifle shoots? Isn’t that somewhat far?
On a sidenote there are a couple of interesting weapons:
- Greataxes: warrior, guardian, thief (as executioner-like)
- Hammers and maces for engineer duh
- Ranger actually seems to have everything it needs. Longbow for ranged, shortbow for up close range, greatsword for gap closing and hack n slash melee, sword for dodgy melee, torch pretty good for offhand, warhorn just awesome, axe has nice aoe.
- Necromancer could maybe use a scythe/greataxe too (only 1 two-handed atm)
- Guardian lacks a decent ranged weapon (scepter not so good), but I can’t really think of a guardian with rifle or longbow. Would look ridiculous. Maybe some kind of orb?
- Elementalist could really use a greatsword (à la fiery greatsword, with different skills).
- Warrior should be able to use spears.
- Mesmer seems fine to me.
LUNA are now a Fissure of Woe guild. If spotted on Vabbi they are spies for FoW. Watch out.
Or maybe…it’s the other way around?!
dun dun duuuuunnn
I’m sure that’s the way it is. They even give us free kills without too much effort.
MORE LOVE! 15 chars
(edited by Sirendor.1394)
The rewards are inadequate. Most of the WvW players would complete them passively (save the jumping puzzles). However motivating PvE players to participate in WvW Season Two will certainly be much harder if nothing is done to amend the rewards.
Who says we want PvE PUGS in WvW?
Personally: yes. It wasn’t hard at all.
Didn’t see anyone in my guild complain about the reward and they are all hardcore WvWers.
This complaining must come from the PvE folks that did the achievements only for the chest.
Going to follow this point. I was quite happy with the reward. I don’t use dragonite ore, cause I’m not getting any ascended, but who knows what the future gives? And the 5 free levels are a nice bonus for leveling characters. It set me to leveling my necro again: from 20 to 32 in 1 day (no crafting). :P
It has given me an incentive to actually try playing alts again (along with the fact that account-bound wxp is coming and that you can now gain ‘tomes of knowledge’ in spvp.
I got an email requesting me to change my account linked email at the same time as the invite. Suspicious.
I got the same e-mail for changing my linked mail-address, 14 minutes after the official invite to the alpha test, after registering our guild roster.
I am using a different e-mail address for the test than for my official account, so I don’t really know. For now I’m ignoring the mail. Can one of you confirm that this is either an automated change or an attempt to hack the account? Thank you.
It is: quoting docMed:
You have an entirely new login as well for this client. If I recall correctly, it spits out to something like [guild name] [account name] as your login. For example; RIOT docmed.####, is mine.
docmed, do you have to relist your own if you are the representative/guild leader?
As someone who has played 6 classes on level 80 in WvW and all 8 in SPvP, thieves are extremely easy to counter. They rely on a high initial burst, deny that burst, and they have 2 choices:
- run away
- stealth and retryA lot of classes can deny burst:
- Ele: invulnerability through mist form and potentially an arcane shield. Besides that auras (protection), some CC, dodges
- Mesmer: has stealth itself, can easily disrupt the thief and can use clones to confuse and kill it (cause it has low hp)
- Warrior: you all know he’s invincible :P
- Engineer has a ton of blocks: shield #5 & tool kit #4, not even mentioning the Elixir.
- Ranger: one of the classes I’m not adept in: should be able to keep a thief off with pet’s “Sick ’em” and a few other defensive mechanics on weapons/traps.
- Guardian can keep off most thieves due to their armour rate anyways. (a few days ago 3 thieves bursted me the same time, used a blind, healed when they could hit and finally popped a ward. Watch them bump into it cause thieves don’t have stability… xD).
- Last class is necro: huge health pool, huge damage evasion, sustained condi dmg.I’d think everyone who dies from a thief has a l2p issue.
How can you deny that if you can’t see the thief and so don’t know they are going to attack you?
There is a reason why in most games and even in GW2 (if you are not a thief) you always lose invisibility when in combat or when you get hit or when you want to attack.
Don’t forget being invisible means you can get away in a full circle (360 degrees) and every second that circle becomes bigger. Then also being able to move very fast only increases that.
One semi-usefull skills as a longbow ranger against a thief is ‘Rapid fire’ because it keeps shooting when a thief go’s into combat and so you can also see where he is going. Many thiefs complain about that but they forget that if they go invisible just before you hit the skill (what happens a lot) you lose that skill for the whole time it fires and you get it’s cool-down. The only other sort of useful skill then is Barrage but also that it only useful when you know where he is and it takes him about 1 sec to get out of the AOE even if he is in it. And that is if you don’t get downed (depending on your build) right away. But there is the problem. If you have a glass cannon build you have a bigger change at killing him (if you know where he is, so luck is part of it) but you also have a bigger change of getting downed to easy.
Also none of the attacks that require a target work on thief’s when they are invisible so in a fact they are invulnerably (invincible) for those attacks. I once made a thread about that but only got some negative reactions about it.
Not to mention that most classes can’t do anything against a thief when they are downed. The thief go’s invisible so is invulnerably / invincible for attacks that require a target and multiple professions only have downed attacks that require a target.
So stealth is not invincible but it is invincible against multiple skills. The skills that require a target, plus gives the huge advantage to get somewhere very fast without the other person having any idea where you are and going (so not being able to really counter it). Guessing where he is is pure luck with a area where the thief can go that increases every second.
Lol. I haven’t been surprised by a thief for like a year now… of course they’re in stealth when they attack you, but you should be able to kick them out of your way once they have ‘unleashed that mighty backstab’.
I have to add a question too: what are we supposed to fill in under “Player’s Alias (IGN)”? Is this the nickname we give eachother, or the principal character that person uses for the test? What if we use multiple characters?
If you don’t like it, don’t buy it. You don’t need this skin for anything. Just buy something you do like the looks of.
