If I am to decide, the leveling system in Guild Wars 1 was the best of all. All you had to do in order to level was complete the primary quests and the storyline. You could feel really useful and important, because your story evoluted and your character with it. There was also a ton of variety because of certain choices you could make AND the story itself was the main aspect of the game, meaning they had invested a lot of time in the story, making it 10x better than GW2 story. Also, 80 levels is waaay too much.
For me it’s not so much “slow leveling” as it is “group gated leveling.” In the last MMO I played leveling was a chore because most of the population was at level cap and there was no one to do dungeons with to level up.
EDIT: It was LOTRO, in case anyone is wondering.
I had the same feeling with Lotro, stopped playing somewhere level 30, level 40.
Satisfied with this answer. Keep cultural armour cultural or don’t have cultural armour at all.
Yes, more exclusivity and restrictions, that will make the game great!
It’s a sad day when people can be so selfish the day before Thanksgiving.
We don’t do thanksgiving :P
Who was the guy from FoW running around as a dolyak in obsidian yesterday? :P You made me laugh, all those blacktide chasing you. ^^
It was me, Tech friend! \o/ First hours after the patch were crazy in the Obsidiam Sanctum, lots of ganking and people trying to reach duels zone! heheheh I had lots of fun. :P
=D Much respect. Very courageous to run as doly in that chaos. :P
If WWII taught is anything, that is in real life, the numbers matter.
Numbers have a right to matter…but they’re not the only thing that should matter.
So let’s recap:
- Jathres says he had fun (without any insults to anyone)
- Sin says Jathres is a noob who dies all the time to his blob
- People say “Duh”
- Sin tells everyone they suck
- People challenge Sin to back up his claims at 5v5/10v10/whatever or kitten.
- Sin says no repeatedly
- People challenge him to a duel
- Sin says no repeatedly
- People tempt him with gold
- Sin says “Okay but you won’t even show up”
- People prepare to show up
- Sin demands a change of rules, backing away again. As they are the people offering gold, THEY should set the rules.
Best bit is that regardless of the duel outcome, it doesn’t change the original argument, Sin is basing all of his “you suck” comments on the speed that people die when faced with 4x+ numbers, and that the points aren’t close. Even complaining about how boring it is to fight blob vs group all the time, yet still is impossible to find seperate from his blob.
The only thing I conclude is that sin is on this particular thread all day long and he’s the biggest moron I ever virtually met on a forum. o_O
Have fun hammer bashing him. I think he may just ragequit after the 7th consecutive win on your part. :P
WvW was a complete joke to try and get gear. Unless you ran a large organized group there was simply no way to farm enough badges to get a set of gear in a timely manner. This seriously wasn’t even an option.
I remember I farmed 500 + 390 × 2 = 1280 badges for my invader amulet and rings, lol.
But I used to zerg a lot and do all 4 jumping puzzles every day.All I’m expecting is that they’ll make it much easier to obtain in a few months, just like they did with karma, dungeon tokens, WvW badges and gold in general.
Right now, I can make 250 badges a week with rather casual gaming. 1-2 hours average a day. Compared to that, the gold needed for ascended is ridiculous.

The armor, it has something to do with being manly, Krait. :>
Shall I teach you to become manly? Pink dyes are possibly involved…

Another update on our battle.
I think WSR is winning. GO WSR, GO WSR! ^^
Who was the guy from FoW running around as a dolyak in obsidian yesterday? :P You made me laugh, all those blacktide chasing you. ^^
Hahaha. That farmfest in Obsidian yesterday. Too much fun. ^^
But well, I kill people who attack me. I left that fluffy cute dolyak with his windscreen from Fissure of Woe running along. <3
Vabbi. Best server in EU.
Wait til full ascended gear is in game, get back to me. I want to continue to read what a trifle amount of difference it makes. If it was so trifling would anet continue to beef up end game event encounters?
It’s a gear treadmill that has to be balanced with a beefing up of content difficulty (more beef). At what point will you clear the smoke from the mirrors?
+1
I had an abyss and celestial dye drop the same day. never had them since – or before that. I also had two precursors drop from the karka chest(dusk and the shield one). two at once. pretty kitten lucky and I dont think I will ever be lucky again in this game. xD oh well.
What the..I can’t…what…how…
Two precursors from one drop? I can’t even comprehend that kind of luck.
It be RNG, don’t ask questions. :P
This thread won’t die. This game NEEDS Canthan expansion
Fixed that for you.
((Lovely how it still goes on. Redenaz, you’re a genius.))
Have Vabbi resorted to cheating or they have so uber players that can battle for 15 minutes 3 vs 12 and kill most of their opponents without even etting downed. Hmmmmm….
Here’s my story. Sunday I was playing in EB a little and I happened on a guy from Zero, called L Ö V E. We capped some camps, some sentries in blacktide area. At a certain point there were 2-3 blacktide guys, we killed ’em. But then… they came back…. on equal footing. I think 6-7 guys attacked us. I had high mobility so went off after some initial skirmishing. Went on my way to Stonemist, capped some sentries in the area and then turned back to see what became of L Ö V E. Curiously, I saw him still running around with the blacktide, though instead of around 6 he was tanking 10. Saw him go off in the distance, blacktide zerg swarming around him. :P
(Forgot to mention I actually decided to do a little headbashing, hit and run, and killed three stragglers ^^)
So yes, if you take L Ö V E for an example, vabbi has some pretty zomg-powerful players. /Salute to the magical warrior.

Ether way I spent the time and gold farming so I’d get the better stats then exotic. If there were not better stats would not have bothered so I’d like and many others to get refunds on any crafted Ascended weapons. If they would refund the materials that went in to leveling to 500 and the weapons themselves I’d be more then fine with them getting rid of Ascended gear or making them equal.
There’s no way they would refund you for mats. It would be a logistical nightmare. You’d have to eat it the same way people did other times changes were made.
-when magic find gear was eliminated.
-when they reset FoTM.
-when jugs of karma were added and people previously grinded their butts off for exotics.
-when they do a class or weapon buff or nerf.
They can send everyone a claiming ticket for a cultural armour set, give them like 2000 gems and maybe add a cosmetic upgrade to the ascended weapons for compensation? I wouldn’t mind (even though I didn’t get ascended). All in all that’s 150g at least
1. My guild and Vabbi community
2. The combat: smooth, dynamic
3. Character creation
4. The ‘lore history’ (cause I love GW1) – story added in GW2 isn’t that good
5. The engineer class
I see more salient and well-written criticism in this thread than I’ve heard coming from some professional game designers.
That might be because there are also game designers playing gw2 and commenting on their afterthoughts, both positive and negative. :P
I still don’t get why it was a mistake to have exotic so easily obtainable – but then, I never got why it needs to be difficult to obtain max-lvl gear.
Two groups of players think that BiS gear needs to be difficult to obtain. One of those groups (A) think that time spent in game needs to matter for best stats (see games in which PvP BiS is obtained via ranks usually obtained by playing more matches than others). The other group (B) thinks that BiS gear should be gated behind difficulty (see MMO’s with raids). Oddly enough, the former group consists of people who play a lot, and the latter consists of people who desire hard content.
Exotic acquisition at launch was very much in tune with pre-launch statements about gear. ANet started introducing Ascended as obtainable via method B (FotM) but changed mostly to method A due to the outcry against Ascended being gated by any degree of difficulty. This suggests that ANet believed: that there were more players who wanted something to chase than who were content with exotics as BiS; and that time requirements would both please group A and also allow those who don’t play difficult content to get Ascended sooner or later.
The only problem I have with your explanation is that Ascended are not gained through difficult content (but through zerging). It just requires a horrible amount of gold, which again, is earned by the most easy activities: champ farming.
So Anet made a gear tier that is:
- Accessible after playing easy content that doesn’t require any skill from the player (champ farm)
- For players who want hard content?
Horrible game design in that case, cause players who want hard activities are not farming champions pressing #1, but are usually found in:
- World vs. World small scale or duels
- ‘Harder’ dungeons such as Arah and fractals
it’s blacktide you’re referring to, not fow then, silly :p. that sin guy is from bt, HoD is a guild from bt, and he’s acting like that on any matchup thread, don’t mind him ^^
Woops sorry if I offended anyone xD
FoW… bleh, you guys are only “winning” cause you have more people than us, since that mass transfers at beginning of season. Good job, good job. Now bugger off and let us have some fun and less QQ about you being so superior.
Excuse me? Oo, when did that happen? i hope you meant bt, else i really don’t get what you’re saying, plus people transfered OUT of fow, not to us, at the beginning of the season, we lost several guilds to surmia, and even a few people to vabbi. so really, explain me what the idea behind this post is, besides, vabbi was always outnumbered, so i don’t really get the fact you’re saying we’re winning cause of numbers now, it was the case the week before when we got matched against vabbi, and the week before, and so on. plus scorewise vabbi is doing way better than before, be more positive.
I wasn’t referring to FoW as bad players to be clear, just saying in response to this post.
Sure, what is the first prize?- handshake of the worst wvw community ever?
Worst community ever? For population? Perhaps. For attitude? Clearly not.
You said your guild was running around looking for 1v1s (Doesn’t make sence as you was running with whole guild but anyway)
Duel events are normally organised on a thursday for people who are into 1v1 and want to duel for fun. You said you was looking for 1v1s and Vabbi has plenty of players who will show up for the duel event, therefore plenty of 1v1s. All i did was suggest you show up as you may find it fun but if you prefer to just fight on the forums then continue.
In my opinion though your responce to jathres was pretty foul, He thanked for the fun fights and you basically responded with “LOLZ NOOB I OWNED U LOADZ!!!111”
Yes, numbers, numbers… old song
We were running with max up to 10 ppl from guild without organization and with low levels to exp because there is no need to do anything more in this match up to beat you twice or more in score , Vabbi with those “insane” good players were able to cap 1 camp, and 1 tower near their respawn point and hold it for max 10 minutes. Good job! lol
The guy paints Vabbi as noobs who think they’re good. Most people on Vabbi are WvW players and we care about the server and about good fights. We all know PPT-wise vabbi is ‘worst’, but combat-wise, we’re superior to blobs, certainly in attitude.
Good thing Vabbi has guild groups of 10+… oh wait, we don’t.
My point was, this guy is basically making fun of small scale players. I say, bugger off and let us have our fights. We don’t have the population, but we do have the courage.

BURNN THE KRAIITTTT
But he actually visited me… twice. He even tried undoing my armor. I don’t get why the priestess sent him away. He’s my friend. Forever.
So a fun question to ask to help direct the conversation a bit: What aspects of your favorite television shows would you think would be cool to see reflected in a game medium?
It’s a quote from a ways back, but it’s the best way to frame my response. I hope you don’t mind.
A good show must find a balance between building lore, establishing characters, indulging in instant gratification, and setting up long term investment. In many ways, a television show is an apt comparison to MMOs. They require an initial hook to get the player interested combined with long term reasons to get committed to regular viewing. In addition, they cater to many different individual’s personal tastes; viewers will get attached to certain characters, become invested in the plot, or simply enjoy the wit and banter to bring them back again and again. At the moment, however, the Living Story feels like a poor spinoff due to the overemphasis on the Saga of Scarlet. In order to achieve a solid viewing audience, the Living Story needs to find balance.
I have a thread over yonder where I go into more details, but here is a simple example of a Living Story arrangement designed to appeal to a wide audience. The idea is to reserve long term campaigns that take months of content for the most important things going on in Tyria (which are dragons, not redheaded Sylvari reverse engineering bloodstones). These fit into the January-to-May block very easily, since there are no holidays during that time frame. Meanwhile, the rest of the year is devoted to creature features, lore delves, one shot stories, and the introduction of new races in order to indulge a diverse audience. The combination of hardcore campaigns and whimsical/wonderful oneshots should satisfy the audience and keep them entertained for years to come.
If it is not to presumptuous, here is a hypothetical TV Guide To Tyria to demonstrate what the Living Story could be.
Hire this man I read the whole thing, commented on his thread and I love it.

RoF is pretty weak compared to RoS. Weird.
We just finished a fantastic match up with the Dzagonur. It was fun, and exhausting. After that match I think many of us have no interest in playing a blobathon with RoS. We play against them again next week too.
Ah I see. RoS and Drakkar can go have some blob duo after season is over.
FoW… bleh, you guys are only “winning” cause you have more people than us, since that mass transfers at beginning of season. Good job, good job. Now bugger off and let us have some fun and less QQ about you being so superior.
Another option would be that dead players can still loot everything in a certain radius.

- A minor dragon
- Toxic alliance
4. New infusions introduced that simply add a visual effect to the weapon or armour they are placed on (ex., fire / lightning / poison / smoke / frost / blood / etc.)
I really like this idea. It’s exactly what progression should be like: more character customization.
Sounds good, implementing it might be hard though.
Hi.
I was just wondering: do I look like a farmer?
Because every time I talk to norn they call me a hoe traveler.
I… what? o_O
What did I just read?
Uhm…
I’m stunned. Totally.
1. Stats being bound to armour and weapons. Worst design ever.
2. Ascended gear
3. Upscaling alts in WvW; it’s a joke
4. Zergs being most effective & profitable in every area of the game
5. Skins: why is there no database? Wtf
[If I can cheat, I would add Living story (or actually the general story): so stereotype, so bland, it’s fit for a 12-year old. A total letdown]
(edited by Sirendor.1394)
I agree The hardcore need something to chase. Give them all the skins to chase they want. While your at it, How about giving them some good looking skins? I have not seen even one mindblowing skin in this game.
Well something to chase could be anything really. Doesn’t even need to be just skins, as long as it didn’t have an effect in PvP and isn’t necessary for most things in PvE.
Hi everyone,
as the title says, this is mainly a “Show-Off” Thread for everyone, the main idea is the following, if you think you’ve achievemnt something incredible by rarity or rarity and the amount of which you’ve got it, and you want to show it off to the others, this is your pleace / thread to be, but also, if you not only want to “Show-Off” your achievement, but also want to know where you stand in general terms, combining the most servers together in this forum.
Preferably your “Show-Offs” are shown with Screenshots of GW2 Ingame footage proofing that you’ve achieved what you’re claiming to have been achieved by you.
I’d like to give an Headstart, but unfortunatly I can’t proof that I’ve done what I actually say I did and well really did, since the BLTC History of “Thing I’ve sold” isn’t that complete or accurate it seems, since many things I’ve sold past the last year, aren’t shown at all in my History and it would take me forever to go through over 9k+ things I’ve ever sold so far to find every and each piece of those thatt I’ve sold so far.
But well anyway, I don’ want to be a Gamebreaker, so I claim I honestly have already gotten 40+ Pre-Cursor from the Mystic Forge in an total of 15 Months playing GW2. And I’d really love to know, how many Pre-Cursors have you gotten so far in the game?
To be t least a little bit trust worthy, I’ll show you a screen where you can see at least some Pre-Cursors I’ve sold via the BLTC so far, but as I said, the BLTC History seems bugged, so many Pre-Cursors weren’t shwon at all to me so I couldn’t take a screenshot of it.

What do you think about Guild Wars 2, if you see other Games like the following List of upcoming games?
- Blade & Soul
- Echo of Soul
- BLESS
- Icarus
- Black Desert
- ArchAge
- Black Sheep
- TESO
- Everquest Next
- Wildstar Online
- EIN (Epicus Incognitus)
- Don’t know Blade & Soul: looks like a hack&slash game. GW2 is definitely better qua combat.
- Echo of Soul: don’t know
- BLESS actually looks like it might beat GW2 in both PvP and Story.
- Icarus: don’t know
- Black desert is very possibly a rising star. Great potential. Looks amazing. It might be better than GW2 on all aspects.
- ArcheAge: the same as Black Desert looks very promising. Again a potential GW2 overtopper.
- TESO: promised a lot, didn’t deliver. Combat looks rather… bland. PvP aswell. Good, decent, but not as high quality as GW2.
- Everquest Next is for me the game that will beat GW2. Either it will be perfect, or it will become a hype. Potentially will cost GW2 a lot of population when it releases.
- Wildstar is a no-go for me personally. The subscription model turns me off.
- EIN: don’t know
All in all: I would say GW2 at this moment is probably the best MMO there is. BUT they did waste a lot of potential and this will not be forgotten by the playerbase. If any game comes that actually adresses problems such as the gear grind and the farming issues, and blobbing in PvP (I’m looking very expectantly at Everquest Next, ArcheAge and Black Desert), then GW2 will be punished for some decisions Anet has made concerning Gear grind and concerning Competition.
Krait visited hospital and found human soldier in armor in bed. Krait tried to help human priestess remove armor so soldier could sleep better.
Krait was asked to leave.
After leaving the hospital with beautiful priestess was sent to investigate why a Krait is in Divinity’s reach, to Kessex hills. Logan thought I was the man for the job – I will confide, I am secretly his right hand – yet he looked at me askance after I babbled about Krait. I think he may be a bit mad.
In Kessex Hills has seen many Krait, bit dizzy still from that nasty sapper’s bomb.
Asked them if they knew a krait with green and yellow scales. They might have misunderstood it for saying their scales were ugly. Krait attacked me. A woman with a pink staff has saved me, throwing a purple orb at the krait while they were overwhelming me. Suddenly they turned into moas. Beautiful moas. I did get a gash from one of krait. Was sent to hospital again. Hopes nice krait visits again.

As you can see we are doing really well: we have 3 camps. And only 7000 points removed from the number two..
RoF is pretty weak compared to RoS. Weird.
Go to Vabbi. You probably won’t find a bigger challenge.
I’ll have to state that this is true. I have moved to vabbi just before the start of the season and I have never had a better time in WvW. You’re outmanned all the time and you have plenty of roaming (yes you have a lot of players from other servers running in small groups too).
No. Don’t merge servers. We don’t want blobs. Most people here are on Vabbi because they like small scale, they left their original servers for it. People who didn’t like it transferred to other places.
The problem is that there is currently no way to make it harder for blobs and still make it viable to play as a small group. Right now it’s possible to take down a tower (sometimes even a keep) with 5 people and a couple of rams.
If they make it harder to destroy gates/walls: higher hp/lower dmg > a small group won’t be able to cap the tower in time and instead the blobbers will have plenty of time to come in force and kill the small group.
SOLUTION:
The only approach that would make WvW a tactical structure would, in my opinion, be if they deleted the concept of servers, and made it Everyone vs. Everyone, with the exception of guilds. Guilds should be able to make alliances and those should make it possible to make bigger tactical wholes.
There would of course still be need of other things: make towers/keeps claimable by an alliance (or a single guild) and allow “contracts for hire” to players who don’t have a WvW guild so they fight in service of that guild. This would tie towers to one specific alliance/guild and they would do everything to keep their towers/keeps out of the hands of enemy guilds. However they could also make non-attack treaties with guilds who have a structure in the neighbourhood. There would be a deal more sieging, upgrading and a great deal more defending.
Lastly it should of course give an advantage to these guilds or alliances of guilds who have claimed and defend their towers/keeps/camps/sentries: a gold bonus every 15 minutes for every player of the guild/alliance who defends his/her keep and loans for the mercenaries (pugs). On top of that, add a tax on all loot that will allow the guild/alliance to build new fortifications at certain places (walls, possibly camps).
Of course to stop from making this a farm, there would need to be actual fights: events will keep a measure of how hard battle has been for that specific keep/tower, through timers and calculators of how many people were in a radius of the fortification.
I am krait and want to make friendsss.
I have come to Divinity’ss Reach to make friendss and learn to ssociety. I have learned the human language.
What sshould I ssee? What is bessst in human life?
Pleasse, I need your help!
Dear scaly inhabitant of swamp.
We humans would like to welcome you this very moment, yet sadly we are busy helping a world in danger of the vicious alliance Scarlet created! Come back in approximately 3 days, 2 hours and 20 minutes. I’m sure we won’t be busy then!
Oh wait…
For me the only thing keeping me in-game is the WvW community. On several servers there are organized WvW-only guild that are usually made up out of nice people. It’s lovely to go fighting in WvW side by side, and getting saved, or saving them. It creates a bond and I love it.
biggest mistake they made with WvW was no loot upon leaving… you should never lose out on loot or a chance at loot because you get killed inside a keep, etc. You should automatically get all of the loot you missed upon leaving the worlds and zoning back to LA.
Pop up window, here’s your spoils!
YEP. POP UP, POP UP, POP UP. We need this
Please dont bring your guild raids of 20+ to Vabbi, its just overkill and the superior attitude which tends to come with most large guilds this far down the ladder is stupid.
I’d like to second this. If you want to come over with a small scale team or as a solo roamer, we’re totally fine with it. Vabbi encourages small scale and discourages blobs as much as possible. Keep the game fun.
Gandara is PvD like all the rest now. Good thing I transferred to Vabbi.
Woah I feel bad for you WSR. Good luck to RoF aswell.
See you next week.
GL everyone.
Ty for the build Jathres ^^ You kinda make me want to reroll my warrior as an asura though, darn you! My big charr is just so slow and so visible. Only an asura like you can sneak around swinging hammers. xD
