Anet just underestimated the influence farmers have on other players. A player who would have rather enjoyed the content the game has to offer is now told to go to Queensdale to farm champs. It is very sad.
I agree. They should never have made the economy open with variable prices…. that was their most stupid decision ever, since it creates huge differences in the player base. Farmers farm tooooooooooons of gold, making gold totally worthless and most drops extremely cheap. Things that don’t drop or rarely drop or can’t be found as a drop therefore have become incredibly expensive. Players who don’t farm are forced to farm if they want those latter things.
A better idea for this game would have been to make gold accountbount, and fix the prices for every item, so it wouldn’t have become one giant farm.
Hahaha, all of them? you know the rules…. “#32 – Pics or it didn’t happen”
I have rare materials like cotton etc. And money for everything else. It is stupid to store 16k mithril ores while i can buy it anytime.I just wanted to say – MMO is not SIMS or other barby like game. Even when they make ascended gear more obtainable, someone will make 1000 alts and start to cry “omg i can’t gear all of them, give all items for free QQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQ”.
Apparently, people who make 8 and more characters, don’t play all of them, they just want to dress and undress them… don’t tell them (it is a top secret), but they don’t need all of them be full dressed. Or they will lose all motivation to play GW2 as a barby like game. When this happens, they just go to characters screen and make new characters. So it does not matter how many alts they have, they will do it all time. For “normal” people (who actually play their characters) ascended items are accessible. Just not in the moment new patch hits servers.
Are you suggesting people want to get BiS gear for their alts because of how it looks?
Like, how those leaked images of Ascended armour look? Seriously?
On topic:
No, it won’t be alt-friendly. That would detract from the game’s new direction which is up, up, up and away!
Lol that guy is so wrong. I want BiS gear on my alts (7 of them) because I want to be able to hold my own on any class in a PvP situation.
i think for a lot of people WvW is endgame.
You mean WvW is the only end-game that stays enjoyable. Yep you’re right. And yet, it’s the champion farms that give the best rewards. Does Anet want people to go back to the empty and repetitive PvE world?
Goldsinks are important. It’s very easy to make money in this game. If there’s no sink, there will be too much money. Then most of that money will accumulate among high leveled, veteran players. Incoming players, or casual players, will have a very difficult time matching up to the inflated prices – which the veteran players will directly, or indirectly be setting. It would not be a free market, because the veteran players will be the ones controlling it.
People should not be able to resell high-end gear. In a market that will always be inflating, these are VERY profitable, long term investments. (Trust me on this – I know :P) Today I buy a weapon for 5 gold, use it as I need, then resell it a few months later for 25 gold. Now let’s do that for all 6 armor slots, and 4 weapon slots. I buy 50 gold of gear, use them as I wish, and resell it for 250 gold. Now I got 250 gold to drop into whatever I want. Having more money = sellers increasing prices. Repeat this for every player that has high-end gear.
Then comes in a new player who just hit 80. A set of exotics will cost them 250 gold. How is he gonna get that? No one wants him in dungeons because he doesn’t have the good gear for speed runs. He can’t make his own gear because mats will be expensive (less gear salvaged = less crafting materials. Supply < demand) Only those that can afford the mats for crafting are either a) people who can bot and farm nodes or b) have the money to buy what they want when they need it. ===> another increase on prices. He’ll be stuck at the bottom.
Binding gear will force the player to buy their new, better set without retrieving the gold from their prior set. This is a big thing that keeps prices from inflating. The items salvaged won’t upset the market either.
Ah great. I wrote a wall of text on gaming economy. I wonder if people will read it. If you did, yay for you.
There already is wayyyy too much money. I know people who have at least 10 legendaries and are still piling up their gold by the thousands.
The problem is; the gold is extremely unevenly distributed. I have for example only 7 gold at the moment. Sure I get maybe a gold each day from playing WvW, but there’s no way I can keep up in order to buy fancy items. I’m going to lay the blame at the fact that players in PvE get so much better rewards for doing extremely easy things, while players in WvW get extremely low rewards for very skill-requiring things, such as 1v1 duels, small group fights, ninjaing towers and keeps (ninjaed stonemist with 5 people) and so forth.
polls might be a step in the right direction imo.
I thought the same.
’T was funny when we stole redbriar from an unexpecting group of arbor that had more people than us. Also kudos to BNF, nice fighting on WSR BL.
Does that look a bit small?
I imagine you can’t enter unless you’re queued or something. Else if 6 guilds want to fight against eachother at the same time… it will be messy.
I don’t see any problem. You’re still higher than most other players at level 30 and the difficulty of all levels above 30 has been increased significantly, so even if you reached 50, it isn’t difficult compared to the new levels 30+, so you don’t loose anything. The system just changed and this is just a nonsense thread.
Alrighty, ready to go.
The idea here is that one year leads to another in a general sense, but it uses self contained stories to form the foundation. That way, they can form the framework for something bigger, while still standing strong on their own. In theory, of course. For a touch of variety, creature features (one month monster focused stories), holidays, and the oddball joke episode are thrown in the mix.
The one big potential problem is the predictability of the campaigns. If it becomes rather dull to gather together and slay the beast in about the same time frame each year, it could turn monotonous by the time we take on Bubbles. At the moment, the hypotheticals attempt to solve that with some hooks to throw in the middle of the stories, but one could also delay the battle with the Deep Sea Dragon and interject something else if it grows too predictable. That’s a conundrum for another day.
After the dragons are dead, the next few months are spent on a Reclamation, transforming the areas currently occupied by dragonspawn to mark the dawn of a new day. Meanwhile, it introduces several story threads to act as major plot points for the future. All things sailing smoothly, this should mean that the fifth anniversary of the game is poised to reinvigorate itself and introduce several new campaign themes across every corner of Tyria.
Here’s the big old block. I hope you enjoy it, and thanks for reading through the long haul.
MOREEEEEE, PLEASE.
God that boost when we kill arbor’s 50-man zergs.
Nice defending on VB everyone!
Edit: Oh and what do I hear about people on WSR borderland saying they don’t want Tech there? o-O
We were visiting red BL cause it became home for us, then you heartless WSR people send us on our way with 30 people, and we only ever come with 5.
Everything is forgiven if let us keep our headquarters in vale though?

Looks good indeed. A lot better than the regular LS garbage.
Still getting a lot of skill lagg tbh. Some days it’s barely playable and I just stop playing then.
I really love the game, but I refuse to turn it into a job and grind hundreds of hours in PvE just to continue playing on a reasonably level field with my opponents in WvW.
If I find that I’m at a substantial disadvantage in my chosen play style and can no longer compete without grind, I’ll go play something else. I’m holding out a bit of hope that ArenaNet wants to avoid that outcome for me and other players like me.
Quoted for truth. Very nice post.
Hopefully you actually have to play the game to get the precursor, and not just grind T6 Mats/Gamble Mystic Forge.
I don’t know – 1000 Events, X Total kills with the weapon Y, something, just not grind.
I’m not saying I don’t want to work for it, but I just don’t want to mindlessly farm.
I agree. Anything but farming gold. As I’ve read so far, it seems they will cost 600g though (for the crafts alone), so I’m not really hopeful. Here goes to another “magical” 6-month farm. Same goes for ascended armour. GARBAGE CONTENT
Oh and Anet; people who can’t afford to buy a precusor for 500-800g on TP are not likely to be able to buy all the materials for the crafts, just saying. The only ones you’re helping are the gold farmers in this game.
When roaming, you are likely to face other roamers — folks specced and geared specifically for that task. The learning curve can be steep. But it’s fun
I think this one leans closest to the truth. Roamers are a group of people specialized in killing people EVEN if they have twice as many numbers. This means they’re qualitatively better equipped, organized and experienced for small scale fights. Talking out of my experience. If you want to become a decent/amazing roamer, a lot of training goes into that (only a small percentage will ever reach decent, and even a smaller share will reach amazing – I’m top level in small group fights, cause I’m more of a supportive player, but rather decent on my own). I suggest you look for a roaming guild and have some experienced people to tag along with. You’ll learn best that way.
As for me, I think it took me at least until May 2013 (started August 2012) until I became a decent, good roamer. Still becoming better by the day though.
Edit: also, please get people who know what they’re doing to advise you a build [traits, armour, weapons, trinkets + runes/sigils & playstyle).

HOORAY for capping our BL back, 2 hours ago!
Noticed on female guardian… greatsword.
Wave to imp mesmer Melfona. Was fun flipping WSR bay twice yesterday under the unsuspecting eyes of arbor. xD
I would want….
- Removal of skill lagg
- Removal of ascended
- Removal of blobs
And I’ll be happy for a year.
So why aren’t there multiple pathways to getting these items? I mean from the start. From release. When Legendary/Ascended Weapons were released, there should have been a WvW method of getting them, or some sort of equivalent.
And the ability to sell a drop which has stats you don’t use. Its utterly absurd.
One of the key facets of ascended is they have an earned component. If you could sell them directly. That would no longer be the case
You mean like legendaries which have multiple earned components?
Legendaries are meaningless grind. Seriously. Most players I know disgust legendaries and their owners.
The problem as I see it is that you get ridiculous stat boost only if you play this game in certain way. If you like wvw, spvp and doing occassionally some non grindy pve you are left with nothing since prices do not scale well with people not grinding fractals or whatsoever. Not to mention if you like playing several characters in game modes not getting you frequent ascended drops or gold.
That is what I think too. The only player able to get ascended are:
a) Farming fractals on a very high level (~30), personally I never completed a full chain of fractals because it’s so time-consuming, and I don’t bother with PvE a lot. Also there’s so many bugs with parties, disconnects and then there’s the Lion’s Arch lagg. So no thanks fractals.
b) Farming champions/world bosses/dungeons: this is even worse than fractals, good drops, incredibly boring, no decent combat and requires you to tap #1 and waypoint, waypoint, waypoint. Dungeons are repetitive, there’s not enough of them.
> No way to get ascended if you’re a non-zergy WvW’r
> No way to get ascended if you’re a non-grindy PvE’r
A-Net should understand why the people prefer to do the Champion trains (in Queesndale)
- it gives decent amount of experience, karma and money
- it does not require special skills, traits, builds or weapons
- it is easy to understand the mechanics without needing a brainstorming session on tactics
- it givers decent lootPeople need some brainless activity to relax in their free time because they do enough thinking at work or school.
if someone wants a challenge they will play PvP games or single player games not MMOs
Tapping #1 button and rushing from one spot to the other isn’t relaxing to me. It’s merely frustrating and extremely boring. I spent all my time in WvW as a small scale roamer.
Ascended ruined all the fair battles that used to happen in wvw! Oh wait, there’s never been a fair battle in wvw, ever.
The only way to make things absolutely fair is make everyone use the same class, same traits, same skills, same food, same groups sizes, no surprise attacks, no terrain advantages etc.
Before ascended, there was never a fair fight. If everyone in the game gets full ascended, there will still never be a fair fight. Get over it.
If someone breaks your thumb, is it alright for them to break the rest of your fingers because your hand is already broken?
Because for many people. This is why they play this game. They don’t care about dungeons. They don’t care about scarlet. They only care about smashing the enemy server. You may argue it’s not as severe as breaking a person’s limb but this is for many people breaking the limbs of the game they play.
WvW was never balanced, it was never meant to be a completely fair battlefield, which is quite obvious really. There are no broken fingers. Battles were just as fair before there was ascended. Ascended has changed absolutely nothing.
There at tons people that don’t even use food, which can have more of an effect than ascended. Look at traits and builds, not all are created equally. Some are over 1000%+ more effective than others. Ascended is nothing.
That comparison is so far off. Traits are something that are completely free (if you don’t count the negligible 3,5 silver). Everyone has a choice to pick the traits he/she wants.
Ascended weapon costs 60 gold approx
Ascended inscription on TP 36-45 gold
Deldrimor steel and spirit wood planks 20-40 gold depending on weapon.I guess your counting leveling crafting but that’s a one time cost. I will say they should offer alt recipes in mystic forge for non crafters that require the vision crystal and the crafted components.
….
An Exotic weapon costs 1-5 gold at max.
An Ascended weapon costs 260g at min.
Exotic can be better than rare, because it’s pretty easy to get. Do 1-2 dungeons and you have your exotic. Or if you’re a WvW player like me, 1 day earns me 2-5g depending on what I do.
Ascended are just outrageous.
I was referring to the crafting indeed. I’m hardly able to gather such amounts of money and I don’t think it’s really fair, since small scale WvW players earn a lot less than the average PvE player or WvW zerg player. I wouldn’t mind ascended if they were accessible to everyone.
(edited by Sirendor.1394)
Dialogue volume to 0, you know you like it
LOL 15 chaaaaaaaaaaaars
I’m not running perplexity and still handling 1vX with ease. Tried a new condi build out today
No, they have PvE zone’s for PvE. Let’s throw WvW into the PvE zones and see well that goes over.
That would be awesome. All those PvE lootbags suddenly appearing on the horizon, slaying champions with their almighty #1 button, unaware of the thief sneaking up on them… oh glorious victory!!
simple solution:
Towers:
Event trigger: Attack
Event description: Stop the enemy from breaching the wall/gate (wall/gate HP meter automatically selects the section with the least HP)
Event Win condition: Drive any hostile out of the area (set “safety zone” around the walls, say 5-6000 range so we cover any potential catapults and it should also help prevent forts overlapping their territories)
Event loss condition: Wall or gate HP reaches zero
Event reset: Wall and or gate is repaired to 50% health or all hostile players is driven out of the safety zone
Event reward: chest from supervisor.Keeps:
Event trigger: Attack
Event description: Stop the enemy from breaching the Outer wall/gate (wall/gate HP meter automatically selects the section with the least HP)
Event reward: chest from supervisor.Event trigger: Attack
Event description: Stop the enemy from breaching the Inner wall/gate (wall/gate HP meter automatically selects the section with the least HP)
Event reward: chest from Champion Supervisor.Setting the reset to 50% repaired means that you got to burn a LOT of supply to get the event back, and it also makes the whole “farm the event system” much much less fun and much much more demanding. I havent paid attention to the difference in tower supervisor and keep supervisor loot, however if there is a difference, good. If there isn’t, there should be better rewards for taking a keep (items, not just karma and exp and such)
Dolyak defense:
Event trigger: Dolyak spawn
Event description: Stop the enemy from killing the dolyak
Event Win condition: Drive any hostile out of the area or successfully reach a destination (set “safety zone” around the dolyak, 2000 range should be more then enough)
Event loss condition: Dolyak dies
Event reset: Enemy leaves the 2000 range safety zone, dolyak reaches first destination (in the case of multiple deliveries)
Event reward: X World vs World Badges, liquid WXP bottle (250 wxp), a random item (low chance of rare quality) 80 silver coins, 2500 exp, 70 karma.EDIT:
In the case of a wall and or gate being trebbed, the event will only trigger once players enter a “inner area” set forth by the area inside the walls, excluding inner walls and the area inside the inner walls, in the case of keeps.
Wahw very nice. I would definitely like this to be implemented.
Time to rename WvW to GVG and cap guilds at 30 and all ppt is earned for the guild.
Last week out of each month the top 3 guilds from each server go to the WvW Olympics and duke it out for server pride.
are you suggesting we cap WvW to 30 guilds, or 30 players from same guild?
Because 30 guilds with 100+ members, well, it would be an interesting battle, if the lag allowed there to be a battle. The amount of players in a guild period. A-net then could allow those guilds to form alliances allowing big guilds to still exist but the smaller groups would allow for specialized focus or for alliances to recruit for coverage.
This would allow those that are in it for the smaller guild fights to do it all they want and those that want to play for server pride would work towards that once a month.
Because once you entered the map you would be red to everyone but the people in your guild and alliance.A more dynamic guild/alliance set-up could also allow for things like siege squads.
Siege squads would be people who have ram/cata/treb skills with the first point allowing people to use said equipment. No point cannot access. Could have groups who just build siege fast and then go off to be havoc squads. And then the squad with the required siege mastery would jump in and start firing. Only limit would be does the game allow the mechanics. And of course each group would have its own squad tag that only the commander could see and be colour coded.Would this address all server issues in-regards to population…no but it would allow more smaller servers a chance at taking first for server pride.
And the solo players or those that just want a quick pvp fix would have the overflow maps to enjoy.
Some guilds dislike running with more than 5-10.
They could just do this if their servers can’t take it:
- Add 4 more maps (we already have the edge of the mists coming and obsidian sanctum for guild vs guild).
- Limit population per map to ~50
This would:
- Limit skill lagg to a base minimum
- Allow smooth combat
- Still gives room for those who like bigger groups (50 is still a horribly big zerg)
- Gives small groups more viability cause less lagg
(edited by Sirendor.1394)
I don’t 1v1 people with applied fortitude/guard leech. It’s madness. Just call a friend, stealth, gank them. Done.
Do you and your friend feel like good players after that?
We feel like good players after killing a zerg of 15 with 5 certainly.
My point was just, don’t QQ about them being ‘OP’. If they want to use buffs that give them an unfair advantage, get your own unfair advantage on them. Problem solved?
Still works. Thank you.
To add to the thread. I’ve really enjoyed running myself as a meditation guardian (greatsword & mace/shield) together with a condition warrior (sword/sword&greatsword) and a burst warrior (greatsword&sword/warhorn).
Greatsword was used for mobility.
Come WSR. 7 more hours and we’ll fight
Truth be told, we got ganked aswell a couple of times. :P Had to defend our headquarters in Arbor Vale at all costs. See you next time!
But an exotic weapon being better than a rare is O.K.?
This argument is asinine. A.net’s only mistake was not having Ascended in at launch. I for one am grateful that they recognized the need for it, as exotics are stupid-easy to get. Something more was needed and ascended was it.
It’s only a treadmill if they keep adding tiers afterwards, which they never will. They’re filling a gap, rightfully so.
I read your suggestion Sube Dai, but I fear it might make it impossible for the small servers to defend their objectives. We have a very limited population and sometimes only 10 players on one map. Besides, what’s to stop the zergs from running around circle-capping?
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Stability
And I do understand that you mention stability in the original post, but this is why Anet won’t put in a diminishing returns. Especially with how they now have boons prioritize party members. If you have 10-15 people of whom you have around 4-5 guardians you should have no stability/cc troubles. If you want to kill those larger groups you have to be willing to put in the extra effect to coordinate within your group of when people will use their stability skills.
Some CC abilities seem to ignore stability. Besides, you still have the endless immobilize aswell…
I once flipped a coin and it gave me head 10 times in a row. Chance is something very arbitrary. Same goes for people dumping rares/exotics in forge to get a pre.
Will miss you Arbor. Too much fun ganking you xD
Oh yeah, call-out to one Arbor guardian, big norn, I think has a legendary. You were one of the better enemies.
(edited by Sirendor.1394)
I don’t 1v1 people with applied fortitude/guard leech. It’s madness. Just call a friend, stealth, gank them. Done.
+1 for account bound everything.
Hey,
My two friends just recently convinced me to return to GW2 and start over on their server with them so we could do some trio roaming in WvW. I’ll be starting fresh on their server, and seeing as how I have very little experience with PvP (in GW2) or synergy between classes, I need the help of more experienced players.
So right now they’re duo roaming with a Ranger and Guardian. I really have no preference one way or another for the type of class I play, or all that much for PvE. I’m pretty much just looking for the best class to synergize with the two that they’re playing.
Any and all opinions on the matter would be much appreciated.
Thank you.
I suggest….
- Necromancer: amazing crowd control/condi and still good for tanking
- Thief: stealth for small groups, huge movement, decent burst
- Engineer: healing/conditions/crowd control/movement
It’s only boring if you farm it for achievements, otherwise its a funny area for small teams.
Once your server has the buff you don’t need to cap them anymore, you should keep an eye on them and prevent the other servers to steal the buff.
the only thing they should do is to delete the achievement related to it.
It’s empty on my server… nobody from enemy servers, nobody from ours. It just isn’t something worth fighting for.
There will not be another season this calendar year. The matchmaking post-season will be back to the system before, with some possible tweaks, but it will be essentially the same system.
Thank you so much. You don’t know how much this means to us. Cya blobs.
Simple fix: put a marker on the map that will follow the movement of any group over xx size.(similar to crossed swords). Now large groups are easy to avoid, easy to track, and easier to counter.
It has been suggested that groups over x size get marked with a skull, for both enemies and allies. Brilliant suggestion if you ask me.
When it comes to profit, Anet has to answer to their masters of a nationality-that-must not-be-named-less-you-get-infracted.
You know many of us who want player progression versus character progression. That is wxp, gear, ect being account shared, is because we are working adults. We have lives, and spend many hours a day working. I’m sorry but the old mmo mantra of ’make’em spend a 1000000 hours on our game’ is not something we like. All it takes is one company to realize this, and boom, all of us and our money will go there.
THIS.
Either give us a WvW grind for it, or don’t let it enter WvW.
10% damage from a special PVE grind crafted weapon is a lot. I don’t care if you disagree with me. My opinion is that it is terrible.
(Not to mention it goes against the “play how you want” sales-speak they used in 2012/2011)
I was sold a lie. I was lied to. So were you.
I agree. But because I think it would be very hard to implement Ascended acquisition in WvW (because so many people zerg > faster acquisition than roamers/scouts/siege builders and resetters). It wouldn’t really be fair to give the average #1 spamming zergling better rewards than someone who invests time to actually defend his server.
So basically: keep ascended out of WvW, upscale everyone in WvW to BiS or downscale players who have ascended.
