Hi,

Just and honest opinion about the new game. For those who had fully developed characters etc and were not buying new content, to have their world turned upside down with no options I believe will make many people leave the game.

I suggest having 2 separate games completely. The new one and the old one. If you want to see what happens just have 3 old style servers and allow free transfers. When those 3 fill up…open three more…when those fill up….etkittenil you find that few actually like the new content.

It might be different for non-wvw content, but all I do is wvw and it is now ruined.

With all of the extra reveal abilities being added it would be nice if stealth actually worked. And to be clear…it works partially but not how it should.

1.) All NPC’s have routines that completely ignore stealth. Some things honor stealth but others do not.

a,) Attack a guard in WvW at one of those guard points. Go invis while he is healing. Well guess what he faces you the entire time and their goes you “from the side or behind” bonus.

b.) Same guard as in the above you go stealth as he starts to throw an immobilizing throw. You stealth and yup…you are stuck in place stealthed.

c.) Mesmer clones….well they stop attacking as soon as you go stealth but as soon as you are out…they instantly attack you and chase you …even when you are pretty far away and there is no LOS.

2.) Player abilities track you into stealth. You are already stealthed and then the direct non-aoe attack hits you. Rapid fire from rangers is the most obvious of these.

3.) Throw down that shadow refuge and somebody runs in and out quickly…well they are now revealed…Why? The AOE effect is still there? They never hit anyone to be revealed? Why is the shadow refuge limited to 5 people? Is the mesmer abilities limited to 5?

4.) The shadow refuge AOE circle display should go away completely as no other abilities in the game that have a built in “helper” counter. This may have been needed when there were no reveals but now it should be removed as an AOE reveal will counter it every single time. Either that or make the stealth last several minutes as the only use for it will be when you are alone.

Because I have all character classes I can do comparisons…
What I did was compare Warrior to Thief in head to head damage.

Warrior greatsword vs thief dagger.

I did these tests on practice dummies of each classes types.

The warrior has 20962 HP and the thief is 13395 for a ratio of 1.56

White damage per hit averages: W: 796.5 vs. T: 942.3
Rush vs deathblossom: W:2001.9 vs T:957.8
Whirlwind vs. Cloak and dagger W:2241.1 vs T: 1930.2
Arcing slice vs Heartseeker W:2877.7 vs T:2324.5
Hundred blades vs. Backstab W:6381.6 vs 5148.7

As you can see the warrior does more damage per skill use with the exception of white damage.

Now consider that health ratio mentioned earlier. When scaled to health the thief is doing around half the damage a warrior does.

Now further consider a great-sword warrior does not need stealth as they can just turn and burn away without anyone catching them. They have just as easy an escape as a thief..maybe easier.

Further consider that the armor buff they get never gets removed only slightly reduced by vulnerabilities 1% at a time.

Further consider that you can shout and spec as a regen warrior and not lose all that much damage.

Lastly consider the range the greatsword covers and does AOE damage essentially.

Let us not forget the invulns warriors get as well.

BTW: I rarely die on any character I play in WvW, So I think I have a fairly good grasp on how things work.

I play every class so this isn’t a bash “fill in the class” thread.

Here are the problems with stealth:

1.) It does not last long enough….yes you heard me right…I’ll explain in a bit.
2.) It is far too easily entered in some situations…at least dagger dagger thieves have to work for stealth.
3.) It offers no built in protection.
4.) Shadow refuge useful, but with beta changes…useless.
5.) You have stealth traps yet no armor traps.
6.) Stealth cooldown is far too short.
7.) Things follow you into stealth “rapid fire to the stealthed face”!
8.) You can be revealed…yet there is no de-armor skill.
9.) Stealth classes are also the classes that get the most teleports.
10.) You move far too fast in stealth.
11.) Stealth attacks are far too weak.

All of the above are related and I could address them one by one, but that would just be stating obvious problems. The problem with stealth in this game is related top the non-fun fact that thieves and mesmers can go stealth over and over and over AND move from one spot to the next instantly. This makes very good stealthers unreasonably hard to kill. It would be one thing that if you encountered a stealth player that they can choose to exit the conflict, but that is not the problem. The problem is that you can’t leave the fight and they can! So they get as many cracks at you as they choose.

To fix the problem I suggest:
1.) Make stealth only enterable by a long delay which you do not move OR a point blank move such as the daggers have….No jumping from a circle…no shadow refuges. Just be still for 5 seconds and you can stealth. or use a weapon or a dust throw etc. No using a torch with no skill needed at all…you get the idea.
2.) Once a player is stealthed the calculation that allows for hits and misses becomes heavily in favor of a miss. AOE’s should have a good chance to hit, direct attacks almost none.
3.) When in stealth reduce speed by 5%.
4.) Melee attacks should have a big opener…if the attacking player stops for 1/2 second before the attack.

I believe this would make for a much better dynamic.

The fact is that thieves need stealth to stay alive.

You have flooded the game with all kinds of stealth removal in such a blatant and bad way that you might as well get rid of stealth all together. Stealth needs to be reliable. It simply lasts too long and you have given these classes NO other survival method. So you end up with a bunch of cry babies about stealth which you crumble to and bring out the nerf bat.

The approach to balance stealth is way out of balance. Would you put in a remove all armor for 6 seconds skill that only stealth classes could use? Of course not…but yet you have done exactly that.

When Beta becomes non-beta will probably be the start of the end of the game as it was for Shadowbane. Soon as they introduced vampires….bloop bloop bloop…game over.

Here is a challenge to the game developers…ask people if they could choose a non-expansion server would they play on it. I know I would select that server over the bug fest that is approaching.

Do this poll as a sticky and you will be shocked at how many people dread the expansion.

The WvW design is horribad and I’ll just point out one really obvious mechanic to illustrate.

Use a a thief with a shortbow.
Be on top of a wall.
Try to shoot people below with a poison AOE shot.
Poof …your shots on top of the wall because of direct LOS calculations.
You move closer to the edge.
Poof…still hitting the top….
Finally with your toes hanging over the edge you FINALLY can get a shot off.

Meanwhile…..
The enemy can hit the top of the wall no problem and needs no LOS as the AOE covers the wall.

The net effect…you are buffed for attacking and thwarted from defending.

Why as a WvW player would I care to buy the expansion when they leave stuff like this in the game? I can tell you now I won’t be purchasing any expansion until they fix glaring problems such as this.

Want another one. All NPC’s do not honor stealth except to not attack you…..as a backstab thief going stealth while the guard heals…he tracks and faces you the entire time.

Want another…chain NPC blinds being reset on stealth.

Want another? Insta NPC target acquistion. One reason mesmers are OP.

Get rid of all walls

The walls in this game are meaningless.
People just run up to the wall…spam AOE on top of it.
The players on top can’t get a target to counter. If they get close to the edge then they die. It incredibly bad design. The siege is quickly destroyed by a single elementalist and you can’t put siege out of a person range. Its really quite silly.

What is the point? Build a huge castle to not be able to counter attack. Shouldn’t there be an advantage?

So just get rid of all the walls. I’d ask for them to be made wider and a siege camera to be swapped into when you manned siege….but I know that is crazy talk.

It is the stealth system that is broken. You lose target and do not regain it when they stealth. Meanwhile the stealth player has you targeted the entire time. So the time you can get them targeted they can hide again….So they get free shot after free shot on you.

Its a great design that utilizes lag to the classes advantage. Just like the beer commercial. Brilliant!

I still feel like transferring to ET. Don’t ask why. I just want to experience something different, even if it is an apparent ‘dead’ server. I don’t care if people tell me it’s a waste of time. It would be nice if just one person could make a small difference.

I have some questions. I’m Australian so I’m generally on after work which is around 9:00pm through to 2-3am AEST… would it be even more dead during those times on ET?

You’ll likely be the only one online. Or maybe there will be a couple others, if you can find them.

Already made my mind up; I’ll be x-ferring down to ET for around a month or more just to experience something different. A guild already contacted me on ET so it’ll be nice to help out whenever possible. Kudos to them for the good communication~

I certainly hope it’s not as dead as people make it sound haha.

Do you say “Thank you sir! May I have another!”? Two years stuck on this server….We tried to get people to come…they would then they would leave. I spend most of my time these days in pvp. 50% wait.

The real solution is to balance the WvW servers so that each side has roughly the same number of players. They make you sit in queue for PvP…Why? Why not just pop 2 in vs 5? Its OK for WvW so why not pvp? Just yesterday I waited 15 minutes to play 15 minutes in pvp. If there was a queue system for WvW that would have probably been 7 minutes for the entire night.

Why are they so scared of a queue? You want a system that encourages balance? Make people on overpopulated servers wait in the queue…they will quickly transfer to a lower population server. I GUARANTEE it!

Well from what I understand about the grand announcement of population changes is this….

Its going to get REALLY expensive for those unfortunate few that started on a server that was low pop. Nobody will transfer to a lower server. Those on a low server will be trapped there. The only alternative for those on a low population server is to move onto a different game.

I think this is what the plan is correct?

I must say that I really want to rip ANET a new one…but lets just sum it up as disappointing. Unbelievable.

I agree that waiting in HoTM forever to wait your queue gets really boring
But leaving matches?
No, that’s just, no. You got mixed up with people, you grit your teeth, choke back your temper and go through it until the end.
Leaving a match is just bad manners and plain rude to your teammates even if they suck… in fact you’re never certain that you are not the problem.
I’d rather have a forfeit option, so that it can end faster, but I disagree totally with leaving a match while it’s on

Fine by me I’ll be playing hide and seek.

Also those that play hide and seek….I’ll just join them….
Maybe they can just force us to fight!

Used to be that when I clicked on another characters gear in the bank I would get “belongs to another character”. So now it actually tells me who’s it belongs to now. Good job.

Actually I welcome a 3 hr queue…at least after 3 hours I can have a meaningful battle ….Here on DR its 24 * 7 outnumbered amd outnumbered badly.

So ya 3 hours no problem!

OK dead…max population is 20 people….
Often there are 3 of us and 40 of them….very very often.
3 for the entire map.
Think about that for a bit.

Since the game seems to be on its way out…and the bottom 2 or 3 servers can barely field 20 players for all of wvw…..

1.) I can sell 13 items in the Black Lion Trading Company then I have to “wait”….Really!? I have 5 20 slot bags and I an only clear 13 items?

2.) Your password system is terrible…I never know what my password is because your system is far far far far far far far far far too restrictive. I thing its “monkey purple wrench pool” right now. So easy to remember!

If you all log out after capping the map what happens now? You keep getting ppt….

My system. You cap the entire map and ALL of your side logs off. Well you have nobody on the map. You get NO PPT as you are not actively holding a map. So really its the opposite of what you said.

If you have 4 or 5 defenders then you get a greatly reduced PPT. Once you have 25 people on map you get full PPT.

If while you are defending a zerg comes in and tries to take your towers and they outnumber you by 5 times. Guess what? While they are there your PPT foes up by 5 times. When they cap your stuff and they get PPT divided by 5.

So how do you defeat the system and “rig” it?

1.) You can only add and remove your own players.
2.) Id you try to overwhelm (zerg) the other map…you lose PPT because :
a.) You left another map and now your proabably under 25 people….
b.) You now greatly outnumber the enemy and are giving them bonus PPT.

So as you can see it is quite the opposite of all the responses complaints.

Every time I try to do conditions on any class the damage is meh or poor.
I try for a bit and then eventually move away.

However I regularly run into folks who condi me to death quickly. What am I missing?

This is from a player who plays a thief.

The thief class is essentially broken because you MUST rely on stealth and or teleports. The non-stealth thief (one designed for pure damage and only limited escape abilities (Such as signet thief) really are a thing of the past. The problem is that the scaling of damage is way out of proportion. The pure DPS thief actually doe not do enough damage and the PITA hiding thief does way too much damage. Basically the thief design has forced players to retool into the problem that they are today.

Whack 5 K, poof hidden…whack 1K, hidden…whack 3K…whack 6 k, 2k 2k dead….poof …HEY I’m way way way over here guys….chuckle…poof hidden.

Further non-stealth thieves have the same low health pool. Things that you replace stealth with don’t increase your survival ability at all. I mean a pure DPS thief actuall goes DOWN in hit points to about 11K… That’s 1/2 of a good rapid fire!

So the way it works…you become a sneaky thief…get extra mobility…get a maybe 20% damage reduction and get to leave any fight you want to.

Really the class is completely broken and only playable one general way. Making most skills in the tree extra fluff. The cookie cutter success template is so narrow there should really just be “Theif Direct Damage” and “Thief Damage Over Time” choices at character creation. Then your skill bars auto-fill with the correct choice.

Really just stupid…especially venom…only can buff other people and be mostly useless himself thieves.

TWO problems:

1.) When a server goes to bed or to work the other server has a off-peak time guild run the map fighting nobody and claiming PPT.

2.) Some servers simply win because they outnumber the other team 4 to 1.

THE PREMISE:

This is not supposed to be a PVE game mode. WvW is a player versus player game. Therefore there should be some linkage between score and players.

THE SOLUTION:

The solution to PPT abuses is to link PPT calculations to player ratios and player numbers.

The first linkage should be to total number of players on the map. If there are NO players on the map the PPT contribution from that map should be zero. If there are few on the map then the contribution is reduced. If there are say 20% of maximum then full PPT can be awarded. This prevents the zerg showing up…flipping all the items and then leaving. If they leave then as soon as there population goes down they lose their PPT.

If you are vastly outnumbering the enemy then your PPT should be reduced by a direct percentage of the population ratios. Twice as many players…half the ppt. Half the players twice the ppt. ZERGS will find that they will lose every match.

They can still have fun smacking 1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1 however and getting a hit on that 1 guy before he dies.

Even if you do see the hackers name they won’t be banned. ANET simply does not care. You want to find hackers just look at people who have me on ignore. I see people I have identified regularly….They switch characters and I go to talk to them and its the same people with a different class. This was very obvious but there are many non-obvious cheats such as having skills cycles shortened…becoming invuln at 1 health. Having conditions drop off rapidly (yes I aware you can spec.). All of these subtle hacks go un-noticed by casual players. I’d bet a good portion of your top PVP people are doing this.

Small changes won’t fix anything. Game is horribly broken and can safely be renamed to Engi’s vs Ranger vs targets (Remaining classes) Rangers win of course.

What class do i play ALL OF THEM.

Safely can say that ranger is far too powerful and so are turret engineers in pvp.

If you pvp at all I’m sure you have been on teams with 5 rangers…vs 5 rangers and somebody who didn’t get the memo.

The turret engineer is a special situation in a point holding scenario.

The fixes are too complicated to even suggest but I can sure point out the problems.

1.) Channeled skills following stealth.
2.) Sic em – 1 skill to nuke so many things and is really a thief killer.
3.) WAY too much damage on a ranged skill #2 longbow.
4.) Way OP root people for multiple seconds skills rangers have.
5.) That circle that entraps people with NO counter.
6.) Too many immunities to damage that allow motion.
7.) The sprinting ability of heavy armor wearing classes.
8.) There being no damage reduction of heavy armor wearing…wear heavy armor and run fast and do huge damage….why doesn’t everyone wear it…oh yeah …nm
9.) AOE stuns etc too large.
10.) Visible round smoke fields that huge AOE’s crush.

Horrible chat logging of skill usage so it becomes very obvious when cheaters are cheating. Just add milliseconds!

Moving is their choice with in the constraints of the system from the on set. Artificially forcing players out of the ability to play by creating artificial queues for your personal convenience is possibly the worst idea to address the situation. The ones who don’t move are not forced to do anything. That is not what forced means. They chose to play there. Artificial queues o. The other hand literally force an inability to play compared to the population cap now.

This is like playing a pickup basketball game. The other team puts 10 players on the court and you only 2. The problem with balance in WvW is that Anet refiuses to balance side so OK…there will be no queues…even though that is the best solution… So here are other things they can do:

1.) Outnumbered shall be for the entire map not local areas.

What ratio is outnumbered? Is there a minimum number of people? Those can be decided and adjusted, but as it is now 70 to 1 gives rewards with no risk.

I have to disagree. Stealth is way OP with certain builds. There is 1 reason why.

Losing target.

The stealthed player can keep target and apply damage at will. The non-stealthed player must first acquire the target and then perform an attack. The problem here being that the time to restealth along with lag causes the stealther to essentially be untouchable.

Solutions are many. My suggestion is to make both thief stealth and stealth block longer. This means more escape opportunity and more time out of stealth. Pluses and minuses, but at least the enemy has had a chance to hit you.
