PPT is a joke. WvW is about fights.

Broad paintbrush: “all T1 stacked, blob-centric servers only play for PPT and no one there knows how to fight or is skilled.”

Realistic photo: many good players on all servers (including T1) have a lot of experience from other games as well as GW2, enjoy fights and are skilled.

Balanced view: WvW players have different expectations about how they want to play their particular type of WvW.

That’s true.

Also there are many new players, who are “unskilled” compared to those who played in WvW for a long time already. They are not welcome in “skilled” GvG groups, and are considered rally-bots (they mostly are) and forbidden to even follow “skilled” groups. How will they learn and where they can improve, if not in WvW?

In a fairy tale, long time ago, WvW meant to be a battlefield of large scale fights – with thousands of players… actually less than 100 per team. Not a 15vs15 or so, “highly skilled” (…) groups fighting for… (not sure for what, for “fun” or “fame”), and excluding those who… are not good enough yet. But it’s not the players fault after all, WvW “evolved” into this, and those who could decide and change the fate of this game mode are… nowhere to be found. (Not the devs, they just are just workers…)

Everyone who started the game at one time or another was a rallybot for the most part. You learn by running with pug zergs where pug zergs fight other pug zergs or pug zergs fight guild groups. Or just tag along with a guild group and practice. Thats what I did. Who said this needs to be casual friendly either? GvG in WvW is very hardcore at this point in the game, especially on EU.

lol not everyone wants new broken game modes, some of us just want incentive to play conquest, like seasons for example.
and the thing is that killing people takes no skill in this game, i can kill people by spamming one button but that wont make me succeed in conquest

where did you get broken game modes from? The whole point im making is that its terribly embarassing to see a mode called sPvP not incentive people to fight other people. At least not the first priority.

Why isn’t skill in PvP actually determined by whether or not you can kill your foe? Its all about points. Same problem in WvW. This entire game is balanced around points, not the actual ability to kill your opponent. Thats pathetic.

Its hard to believe that we have only 1 game mode after this long in the games history. Its also shameful that the only game mode we have doesn’t even incentivize you to fight the enemy, but just cap points. How is this possible? What are the devs thinking when designing this? There has been an enormous backlash towards the way PvP has been handled in gw2 and yet all Jon Peters does is tell everyone gw2 will soon be an esport.

Just how exactly would you score around fights? 30 vs 15…… the 30 winning and gets more points? Would the small scale skirmishes around camps, dollies etc that people enjoy no longer be important removing any tactical elements?
Or would you herd everyone into guilds ?
Not saying the status quo is where I want to be but it would be impossible to score from “fights”.

Im not quite sure yet. I’ve had some ideas but still need to work on them. I think the community needs to brainstorm some ideas. The thing is there are groups that win 15v30 and 15v40. I mean that alone proves the difference in skill, yet there is no system is place to acknowledge it.

I mean think about it. Right now in gw2, there are servers that have 1/5th the coverage of another, yet win 75% of the fights they engage in. The outmanned server technically is more quality than the other, therefore they should be ranked higher.

Thanks for posting this man.

Totally supporting you. I got burned out and bored of ppt a long time ago already.
To all who reading and think it’s a good minds, please support this thread.

I don’t know how any dev out there could tell me what WvW is actually for. I play the mode about 10 times more than you and have for the last year. The devs are just embarassed to admit WvW turned into something different than they thought. This is true about most of gw2, and thats fine, thats the beauty of it. The playerbase takes it and allows it to evolve.

With the case of WvW, people realized PPT is no test of skill, but fights are. Yet thats not how the skill of servers is determined.

You made a typo: instead of saying last, you said mag would be first.

Mag has most of the top NA guilds right now, I don’t know why, I find it quite boring to all sit on the server and destroy people at prime time, but thats the way it is. The only guild posing a challenge at all would be Agg.

SkylightMoon.1980

We all realize this and have for a while, its just time for the devs to. In terms of coverage, there are rarely any balanced matchups that give each server a fighting chance. For this reason, long ago did people learn to enjoy fights more than get worked up over hours of ppt herding that never was going to pay off anyway.

I think WvW should be redesigned around fights. People who wins fights gain PPT, instead of capping points. If this were true, and you could measure server skill by how well they fought, Blackgate would be mid-tier, Mag and PS would be #1, and things would feel a whole lot better.

I don’t know about you, but the devs have been eerily silent on the actual status of WvW. The entire game mode is more about fights now. Anyone who has gone to WvW know prime-time is littered with open field fights between pugs or guilds.

Even though the high tier guilds are getting burnt out because of the lack of WvW change or GvG addition and are beginning to leave the game because of this(bless you all, you have pioneered the meta of gw2 skill groups for so long, we understand).

Even amongst servers themselves, they all know who has the strongest fighting force. Blackgate and SFR know they arn’t collectively the most skilled fighters out there, they just have a lot of coverage. Actually, a lot of Tier 1 servers are like this and all know this. Guilds themselves represent their servers with their fierce fighting power.

If the dev’s take the time to read this, I figure you probably won’t want to remove WvW ppt but you have to understand that the ability to win Open Field fights, in some situations against forces 3 times your skill, is a better test of skill than PPT because of how unfair coverage is. You seriously have to take this into account if you want there to be any hope for WvW.

Because GW2 hasn’t lived up to most peoples expectations thus far. For pvp, wvw, or pve. They certainly did some things that have been cool, but have failed greatly a lot of others. They spent way too much effort on the living story when it ended up having quite a negative impact anyway.

To clarify some of what was said on today’s episode. There were improvements made to the tournament between the last one and the one that wrapped up today and we believe that some of these improvements were better for the tournament as a whole.

This isn’t to say that the spring tournament was perfect and no changes will be made. Quite the contrary. The purpose of next week’s CDI will be to gather organized feedback from you guys, the players, to allow us to make better informed decisions in changes to make for the next tournament.

The best thing that you as players can do is to give informed, constructive feedback. Let us know what you think worked, what you think didn’t work and what changes you believe would make a more enjoyable tournament for everybody. Whether you believe it or not, we do care about your feedback and our goal is to make the next tournament more fun and engaging.

Please continue to discuss and give feedback in the relevant threads until the CDI thread goes live. We will be reading your feedback, both in the CDI and elsewhere. We can’t always respond and we can’t give definitive plans for the future immediately, but we are paying attention and we are taking your feedback into account.

Were not as interested in Seasons as we are new content/features for WvW. We want lesser populated servers to have a fighting chance in these matchups because new systems would be put in place that balance it out, systems that don’t allow coverage to win. We want a new map in the rotation for WvW maps, perhaps one to replace ebg. We want new siege/new tower upgrades, and SMC to be revamped. We want WvW bugs to be fixed that have been here for over a year.

Do all of that and another WvW season would be welcomed because then it would be anyones game. The server who wins truly is the best, not simply winning because of coverage. Imagine an sPvP matchup bracket where one team has 1 player, another has 5, and some have 3. Who do you think is going to win? Thats kind of how WvW is right now and thats why seasons are boring, because PPT doesn’t mean anything, only people go for the fun fights. Please address these things and stop talking so much about how we can make tournaments more exciting. I’ve just listed you a few things that would greatly help and that the playerbase have suggested.

Do you think the Devs should listen and implement every piece of feedback they receive?

Should they institute Open World PvP for those that offer that particular piece of feedback? What about those that offer the opposite for feedback?

Mounts? or No Mounts?

More difficult content? Or less difficult?

Should they listen to those not fond of empty zones? Or those that don’t want a lot of people around?

Of course, the Devs are selective about what feedback they use…it can’t be any other way.

What about the content players have asked for from day one with little response? Its ridiculous. Should the dev’s give players what they want? Yes, because its profitable. Its humorous right now how much the devs do what they want. Its like they are making a game they think is fun, and then the players have to deal with it. The way its implemented sometimes is just poor, like the examples I put in. I shouldn’t have to go to a great deal of trouble to play the game.

To duel in gw2, I have to go into the heart of the mists and either buy my own arena with my own money or go into one where I struggle to duel my friend uninterrupted.

To do megaboss events, I have to find an organized group(which isnt the problem and is good) but then have them go through the trouble of popping an overflow and having them ferry +100 people inside, and in some cases, I have to sit clicking join in overflow for 10 minutes.

To GvG, since Anet refuses to put it in the game, we can’t have an instanced area but simply an open world area in WvW where people interfere(grief) and we all have to waypoint to a different bl and hope the trolls don’t follow us.

Do the dev’s not listen? The CDI’s looked very hopeful for gw2 because the dev’s seemed to really be interested in getting player feedback. The funny thing is they are very selective about which player feedback they want to listen to and use.

So a very small group of people have voted

Looks like it’s 439 votes, are you familiar with statistical sampling at all?

on an unofficial site

A site where all the users are GW2 WvW players, the group of individuals whose opinions would be most relevant to WvW seasons.

where not even the majority was against it,

45% were against it, 21% are for it… hmmm

means that having another season is a bad idea…?

Probably.

Unless you are being rather ironic about your statistic sample comment, ignore the next few sentence.

You might want to take an actual statistic course statistics or even read to understand why your comment shows just how little you know about statistics.

Here is the most important thing about statistics, it can only work on a truly random sample of a specific population. That means, in this case everybody that does WvW has to have an equal chance at being selected to vote or give an answer.

The vote on that forum doesn’t meet that and here is why:
1. On average for most MMORPG, less than 5-15% of the players ever visits the official forum. What makes this worst, is that Gw2WWW.net is probably less than .00001% of the active players and or even less.

2. The type of people that visit WvWvW do not represent a sample of the population, but a very small (given that only 436 people voted) percentage of the possible number of WvW players. The people that are most likely to visit Gw2WWW are the extreme minority aka fringe. So they cannot be taken to represent the majority. Not even on the official forums. It would be like asking on the warrior forums if warriors should be nerfed. The answer will be reflect the general population perception of the class.

Tl;dR

Learn statistics before talking about statistics.

The problem is that you just made up the percentage of people who use gw2wvw. They are not the minority. A lot of big wvw guilds/roamers/pptfolk use gw2wvw. It offers matchup, allows people to post roaming/gvg vids and posts polls. Gw2wvw is obviously not the extreme minority lel you dont have a clue what you are talking about. Go visit the actual forums and see how many guilds use.

gw2wvw is a popular site for WvW people since this subforum has gotten dry and the moderators remove everything. Its a site for GvG/WvW. 439 votes were cast which is a substantial size to get a view.

It might very well be a popular site, but when the poll basically have less total votes than what I can see at times on a single server in WvW I wouldn’t really say it is especially representative.

Well then there is no representative way to tell what the opinion of WvW folk are because 439 is more than you would get on the forums.

I think I’ll be leaving this game soon if there aren’t some outstanding changes in wvw.

A lot of people/guilds will be. People want devs who actually care about their game modes. Gw2 has devs who only care about some poorly written story that they can’t implement through content. People who play wvw or gvg do it because they like big scale pvp. Our devs don’t care about that, they don’t want to give us content we want, they want to do things they want lol. So by the end of the year this game is going to be quite dead without any significant updates.

I still can’t get an organized group in to do the event because of the same reasons I can’t with teq/wurm/etc. Open world content at this scale that requires players to do more than zerg is obviously too much. Anet still hasn’t commented on this but every other player who has tried to do this content is.

This is basically trying to put raid like content open world and see what happens lol. Well what happens is that you have a map full of people who can’t communicate or organize correctly, or don’t want to organize and do something else, and the event fails. These events have never been done and will never be done by random maps of people, only pre-determined groups. Yet Anet still is bashing the tops of our heads with more Open World Raid content.

Stop it with the Open World raid content

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: SkylightMoon.1980

SkylightMoon.1980

Anet tried it with teq, the wurm, the marionette, and LA. Even though it is sort of cool, we’ve seen the same problems occur each time some mega raid like event has tried to be implemented open world.

First lets look at why Anet is so determined to make open world the endgame raid content, and not instanced. This is mainly because they are afraid of splitting the community. Its one huge point Anet has taken into consideration when developing gw2. More instanced content means more content to spread players across meaning its harder to find groups. In open world this wouldn’t be true because of the megaserver they say.

The problem is you are trying to create raid like content for entire maps of people to do. These entire maps of people consist of people who genuinely wanna try to complete the event, doing whatever necessary is required(coordinating). There are those who are very casual and don’t really care about coordinaiton. They simply see a huge event and know it gives a good reward and tag along to get something, even though they arn’t helping at all and don’t want to coordinate because that is “too much work”.

Just look at Boss Blitz. Its a complete wreck most of the time, with a few times where it has succeeded and even then, the rewards are not that great(this is Anets que to replace the rewards editor who works for you). I go into the map wanting to complete Boss Blitz. I have a tag and am willing to coordinate with other commanders to do so. What ends up happening is that I go in, I am one of 2 tags, and half the people don’t listen. We fail, and this happens over and over again.

This is usually what happens with teq and the wurm still to this day, we can’t even get entire pre-determined groups into one map because of people who are already in the map that were there before keeping others out. We have to go through all sorts of hoops to just get 100 coordinated people into one map. This is what Anet is FORCING us to do in able to complete this content.

With all this said, the only real difficulty that has ever come in any of GW2’s mega-events is coordination, because its Open world. The mechanics that lay behind the wurm, teq, marionette, LA, Boss Blitz are all quite fairly; easy and sorta fun. Real difficulty has not been seen yet for raid style content in gw2.

Its just a shame that difficulty in this game comes down to the lack of systems in place that allow us to coordinate, get in the same map, not the actual mechanics.

SkylightMoon.1980

Putting it in an instance would classify it as a raid. But then how many are allowed in an instance? Same as a full map? You’d still have the exact same issues. Players joining instance not knowing what they are doing, not listening to instructions, trolling, or not actively involved in the event, just tagging and waiting for loot. It wouldnt really solve anything. Plus it goes against anets view of open world events. If you want raids there are other games for that. Guild wars 2 isnt one of them. It was designed that way on purpose.

Why would we want instanced 150 man content? Most guilds can’t field that many people anyway so we’d still be left with less than 10 guilds on an entire region of the world to do them. Even then, we wouldn’t be left with the same situaton, because random people wouldn’t be entering it. It would be for guild only or something like that. Guild wars 2 obviously has made an effort to hardcore content. Its just that megabosses have been somewhat of a fail simply because of the open world factor.

Finally, because the devs know there will be people who have no idea what they are doing they will always have to make content with a much larger margin of error than what they would with a traditional instanced encounter. Which basically goes against the idea of being “Hard-Core, Mega-Organized Events”.

I’m gonna have to agree with you on that. In most other mmorpg’s, hardcore raids usually put a lot of personal responsibility on everyone participating; where a few mistakes can mean wipe and restarting the entire instance.

This can’t work in non-instanced maps where it’s impossible to coordinate every single person present

Ye I third this(or xth it I didn’t look to see if anyone replied). Just going from experience its already a hastle to get people who are in TS and coordinated all into the same map, and even then you still have TS people who just came along for the ride, and don’t really do much. They just want the reward/achieve. We can’t have that in hardcore content.

It feels like it been ages since we’ve heard anything geared towards WvW. The season was just put in place as a filler for the months between the end of season 1 and the beginning of season 2. Eotm was back in february but only as an overflow map, not any content or update that sought to address some of the recurring problems in WvW.

Right now, being a WvW player feels like being a second class citizen, it always has. We don’t really hear from Devon anymore, I’d like to think him and the rest of the team are cooking up some cool content/features to implement in WvW that we’d see here in the upcoming months.

I can agree that I want to see Cantha and Elona, but there is no reason why we couldn’t see an expansion in tandem with the LS content. Of course, they might just roll that out as part of the LS.

I will agree that the LS isn’t perfect, but it has grown. Has gotten better as it’s progressed.

Its not that we can’t see expansion like content through the LS, its that we haven’t through LS 1. Thats a shame. I agree with the OP slightly that this game needs a hardcore raiding type of content(its own gw2 version), it doesn’t needs mounts obviously, more permanent content is always great.

In some games this may mean a long journey of questing, crafting, and hardcore raiding was done to obtain them. I hove high hopes too but also even bigger concerns.
There is a reason why the game is like it is.

-For any reason they took out the deeper experience of GW1.
Every Race, every class is the same. A Charr ranger has same skills or stats like a sylvary ranger as example.
A Necromancer is doing similar damage to a warrior and a warrior is doing similar condition as a necromancer.
Everything is the same. You just take the look of a character you like and play exactly the same as every other class would. They just dummed it down.
I’m not really sure why they did that

-But even more important that leads to the developers are not forced to create something special. With most events in LS1 i thought to my self, you could even use a black block as monster in a white room without landscape or anything and the game experience wouldn’t change. Most people wouldn’t even notice it.

-What i try to say is as soon as they give players the tools to be creative they have to match the creativity. And honestly this is why i have huge concernes that nothing changes.

Don’t wanna bore people with GW1 here but there are great examples….

-The big Jellyfish to open the Jade Sea.
You needed planning to beat it. You needed to interrupt it at some point to make it possible to defeat it.So you needed A- at least one interrupter B- someone to slower his ability charge C- someone to keep the minions off…………….
This fight was incredible entertaining and led to awesome game experience.
If you just took a big jellyfish and a horde warriors were just banging the sword against it for 15 minutes would totally destroy this experience

-The Lava Worm under Eye of the North
There was nothing like direct damage, you had to carry explosives while surrounded by fire….. again, this led to people making different builds because it was needed
and again you had an awesome gaming experience.

To make it short… this is where the problem is.
They took the options away to create a role with matching weapons, armor, skills to chose from.
This leads to a bunch of people standing in front of a boss, pressing button 2
and hope for the best.
The only thing A-Net does is to include a 15 min timer to beat to pretend there is any skill or pressure involved.

I honestly don’t see this way is changing somehow because the basics are not given

Just my 2 cents

Everyone wants this type of content because it would be amazing in Guild Wars 2. Season 2 has to achieve things like this. Anet has said multiple times “we don’t need an expansion, we can do all this through the living story.” I call BS and so did everyone else after the first season completed. They can prove themselves in the second Season or lose more of the playerbase.

People want these in depth experiences like guild wars 1. They don’t want to do petty pieces of content every 2 weeks and achievement farm, thats such a joke.

Season 2 should be Anet’s chance to redeem the mistakes they made in Season 1 aka too much temporary content. Last season was 80% temporary, 20% permanent. Don’t believe me? Look at how much actual permanent content is in this game. Its a joke. Those temp/perm ratio’s should be switched.

SAB should be permanent and so should the queens gauntlet. These other festivals and what not are annual activities.

Best guilds in game are EU, always have been. TA is probably top right now.

A question for WvW guilds(WvW is dying)

How many have you have been losing members and getting smaller simply because Anet does absolutely nothing to update WvW/GvG, on both NA and EU I hear from quite a few guilds losing members simply because of how boring doing the same stuff in WvW is. Along with the fact that after almost 2 years we have no gvg mode whatsoever.

People are going to other games that offer large scale pvp simply because Anet puts little priority on the large scale pvp in this game. Its really quite disappointing to see something like WvW set on the side to die when its a mode that has so much potential, especially for endgame. Running a skill/guild group in WvW is endgame for a lot of people in the same way spvp is. Except sPvP has had far more updates than WvW.

How to handle staff guardians?

gear and builds are great for time, not in terms of life, risk, or stress.

Dude you don’t get it, to many of us playing games is about pushing ourselves to the limit and push some more. A game with no risk/stress is a game not worth playing to many of us.

You may have a different view which is fine, but if you’ve been lurking around the dungeon sub-forum a lot of these people are long time players that discuss optimal strategies to find the most efficient method in terms of time completion.

Branding us as hypocrites, you may want to take a look at yourself.

“A game with no risk/stress is a game not worth playing to many of us.”
Bro, thats literally what Gw2 Pve is. Go play darksouls or do raiding in other games.

Is there any hope for gw2 pve(dungeons)?

Stacking has ruined player skill levels

you’re right, but when you surround her in a corner you can scatter and dodge her area webs, in a corner, your entire party gets nailed in one shot with a ton of damage.
Why is this so hard to understand, I had this argument with a player in my party during my first raid last night. room to dodge is not a bad thing.

Oh. Sorry. My groups kill her before she can attack. So it doesn’t matter. We won’t get one shotted. Carry on.

And I’ll tell you I understand quite a lot thanks. I have one good mind brain yep yep.

I bet you’re so proud, it really sounds like a task that takes immense coordination and skill.

Hard Mode in Dungeons

Colin said they would just make explorable paths harder in the future instead of splitting the community up even more by adding another mode like hard mode.

Some of the posts here just mention making the enemies hit harder and giving them more health. Thats exactly what high level fotm are and its just a lazy way of increasing the difficulty. Putting more mechanics into a boss is a better way of making it difficult. Adding more phases, etc. Gambits are also another way in which I think Anet is just going lazy in design.

One thing that would make dungeons obviously more difficult is if scaling was done correctly. Supposedly people are scaled down in dungeons but this is partially true. Its obvious that there is a huge difference in damage between an uplevel going into ac explore at lvl 35 with full greens, compared to a level 80 going in with full ascended. It shouldn’t be that way.

Dungeons at launch felt so difficult because the parties you’d find for dungeons were around the exact level you’d need to be. So finding a group for ac path 1 usually meant being in a full group of lvl 35-40’s. Even if stacking was common back then, it still would have been very difficult like it is now. Trying to stack in a dungeon with uplevels like on the spider queen could get you killed because you wouldn’t have enough damage to kill it in time. If they really want to make all dungeons more difficult without going back to revamp mechanics etc, just scale it better. Post-patch already showed crit damage scales crazy at lower levels.
