Free chest for people who got a portal key(?)

I did receive a chest. Also, my Beta character is now gone, been there since the first closed Beta. Maybe deleting the initial closed Beta characters is generating the Hero chests.
I did get a portal to the next Beta three days ago.

Next morning before work I went to Silverwastes and did 2 of the Vine Wrath fights on the west edge, second chest had the portal. in total about 45 minutes in Silverwastes.

2 accounts 2 different loot experiences

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Sligh.2789

I have only one account, and I can make it produce 2 different loot experiences.
One week I will do dungeons, farm materials, generally play like most people with bad luck describe their playtime on these forums. My drops decay to junk quickly and stay in that realm
The next week I will play my way, and almost instantly my loot will improve. Every time. and they do not degenerate.
Change the way you play. This game rewards diversity and limited repetitive actions.

Trust me if you want, don’t if you do not want to. I know what works.

The discussion of younger account is spot on, as the longer you repeat repetitive actions, the further your drops degenerate to junk, and the longer it takes to recover. I can go 3 weeks in forum described play, and it will take 4-5 days for my drops to recover.
My hints, use one character per day, cycle through all your characters before returning to the first. Start and end in a city ALWAYS. Maximize power for solo play, secondary stats have no effect on drops. Never kill more than 30 of any one enemy, or within any particular map area. Run to another area and kill another type of enemy, then return if needed. To farm something, IE Charged Lodestones, go to where they drop once a day, and vanquish the enemies ONE TIME THROUGH, (use the hint above). I farmed Charged Lodestones near the Temple of Dwayna, over a hundred, in just over a month.
If you do certain things every day ad naseum, do them in a different order, change up the process you use. Random activity is key.

This is of course IMHO. Take it as you will.

Crafting & asc gear too expensive for newbs?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sligh.2789

Sligh.2789

As a potential returning player, the prospect of levelling up a new character sounds great – until I remember that I will need something like 500g for the crafting professions I already had on my main, another ~360 or so for the armor, and 200g or so for weapons.

Not so bad if all you want to do is roll an alt, because you can always give up and be happy with your main… but how do new players feel about this? If it’s enough to put me off rolling a new character for HoT surely it’s enough to put off new players?

First off let me say that this is a bogus argument.
1) You do not need any money to get the stuff you want.
2) You do not need it today.
The only reason it costs so much is because of players like you that have to have it right now and have to buy it. It is a rather simple solution. I have crafted all 3 sets armor and all weapons for all 8 of my characters. I might have spent, oh, 20 gold maybe, to top off a material need or two.
If you cannot play the game the way it was intended to be played (IE harvest your own materials) then, you get what you get, a large hole in your wallet that drains all your money.
This constant whining on these forums about how much gold it costs to craft ascended is just bogus.

When arriving (especially in the mists) I am stuck for about 20-30 seconds, then the camera snaps to the location my character ends up at, as they are moving, but the camera is not following. annoying at best. I can still be camera frozen when my character enters to portal to Lions Arch, and then it freezes in LA as well.

A Legendary Journey - Precursor mastery!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sligh.2789

Sligh.2789

The legendary status of these weapons is now actually a thing. Before the Moot was just a bauble, but know knowing why it is legendary makes it somewhat legendary. If it is just the party attitude, not so much. But if it had slain 25 party pooping boss enemies in one night of Mooting, that would be worth the disco celebration. I hope I can be proud of using a bow that is made of an invasive plant species, and a sword that is somehow electrified. I cant wait to learn the story behind them.
I hope the new ones have a deep history and story behind them.

Sligh.2789

I was able to play the second stress test. Smooth operation on my antiquated machine, only one lag issue before the only disconnect.
Revenant is interesting, some UI changes, like moving the energy bar to the right side would be a good thing.
Gliding – make the updrafts larger with a slower ascent rate, more like a real glider operates. I love the mechanic and the verticality of the map. I was only able to reach two spots near the edge of the map for some awesome screenshots.
I understand the stress test , but a few more event chains would have allowed for more members to interact and allow movement on a broader scale, maybe next time.
Wyvern, I like the battle, also using the glider to watch it from afar was very cool, and it was easy to recover from the breath attack and return to the fight. Well done.
The mastery point to the west of the waypoint was tricky to get to at first, but it was a good test of the gliding skill.

All in all, I am stoked at the potential the glimpses given show, a general “Whoooah” is deserved.

Ascended Crafting made me quit this game

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sligh.2789

Sligh.2789

I started the game in Beta as well, and have played all the way through. I completed my third set of Ascended armor 3 months ago, and it was easy to do. I don’t have the attitude of “now or never”. I play the game and work towards long term goals, as the game is designed for that. The reason it costs so much gold to buy an ascended set is because too many (most) people cannot go a day without the best in slot items. I, on the other hand, like the goal of actually achieving something by making it, from harvesting all of the materials to crafting every component. “Good things come to those who work” is a working man’s motto.

80 a week, no idea what to do

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sligh.2789

Sligh.2789

Let’s just re-examine where I’m coming from:

There are only FIVE races in this game, and I can’t name all 5. I don’t know how many classes there are, and the ones I do know, I don’t know what they do. (What the heck does an Engineer do?)

There’s no desire to learn about them, because there’s no reason to. All grouping via a dungeon ends up with somebody tanking while I sit in the back hitting 2 and 5. People say that WoW conditioned players to just heal, dps, or tank, how is this any different?

I was a Gladiator in that game. I had to know stats, how to enchant, how to gem, how to itemize, what skills every class did, how to properly time abilities – none of that is required here.

I had actual goals laid out – you log in, you do your dailies that actually lead to gear, and that helps you in a larger raid with a large number of people, with a clear goal and progression. Dailies in this game are: log in, do 3 things, get some karma and gold.

My guild has about 100 people, and nobody is ever on. And the only reason I’m in it was I had nobody to actually talk to at 80 because there is no grouping in this game so where exactly would I find people? A guild, in my mind, is a group of players who have the same goals in mind (endgame content) and want to work together. Here, it’s just people with a tag. There’s no 10, 15, 25, 40 man content, and everything I can do with my guild I can just do in LFG or solo. What’s the point?

For an mmo, there seems to be very little structure. It’s like, instead of having 10 or 25 maximum players for content, and having lots of it, there’s just random world bosses that any number of people can do, and then 5 man dungeons. So I’m supposed to go to a timer website, then every 15 minutes go to the next world boss with 300 people and get a chest of yellow items that I sell for 20-25s on the trading post and just gather more ascended materials I don’t need and can’t sell?

And that’s it? Just do that?

You selected the wrong game. This game is aimed at the casual player. You seem very terse for a casual player. You actually lost the game by leveling to 80 in a week. IMHO, you are not looking for a game like this.

I disagree with the free loots (laurels, mystic coins, etc) for just signing in, that is just ridiculous. I want to work for my loots, whether they are game currency or drops from enemies. I also want to be rewarded for hard work or extended timelines with better drop loot. I seem to have good luck with my drops, and I play in a way that I think helps that. Some do not agree with my way of thinking/playing, yet they complain that the RNG Gods do not like them. RNG Gods have ben very very good to me, so I will continue to play the way I play.

In GW1 the RNG was in place for the VS. I planned three daily runs and expected top get one every 2-3 months, and it averaged out to one every 256 runs for me. I received 38 total over the life of the game.
GW2 is the same way, I portion my time and I have a little better luck, over 500 Teq kills and 5 Hordes, with a few other Ascended boxes as well.
There are hitches, as we saw with the SB staff. I am sure there are other hitches as well that are currently unknown, and that is what bothers me. They took three years to figure out the problem with the staff at SB, how long will it take to gather enough insight to know that there is even a problem in the general database or with certain parameters that affect the data selections that create the reward tables.

Previous tasks were generic and lent themselves to the play of any individual. When you reduced the options you also reduced the ability to complete them playing the way I want to play. Instead of Daily Frozen Maw, it should be Daily World Boss. Instead of Southsun Cove Event completer, it should be Maguuma Completer. Instead of Ascalon lumberer, it should be Ascalon gatherer.
either reinstate the additional options to 6-8, or reduce the over bearing requirements that make me play the game you want me to play.
Forcing people to play game types that they have not played, for whatever reason, is not the way to get them to like it. Silverwastes was the right way to introduce WvW to the PVE community and it was fun. I personally don’t find the monotony fun, it is the same thing over and over and for me, it just is not for me.
Converting Toypocolypse to a PVP, cant play with your friends type of “forced band with unknowns” was not, in my opinion, the way to go. The Holidays are a time when small player groups and Guilds enjoy getting closer and having more fun together. The change to Toypocolypse has severed that community building activity, and will only serve to diminish the feeling of community within the guilds and groups that used it to have fun together.
Just my humble opinion.

Why we can`t use DPS meter?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sligh.2789

Sligh.2789

In a skilled players world, the time to kill is lessened by a few seconds with a zerk build, in a less skilled team the time drop to kill can be substantial, and it can cause the squishy zerker to go down. I view this fact to be evidence that the zerk build is not optimal for gameplay except when used for speed farming. I think that skilled gameplay with a balanced build (not pure DPS) is far more exciting, challenging and rewarding. My DPS may not measure up to any ones ideal, but my skill in gameplay is very good in my opinion. If you want to only play with speedfarmers and lessen your ability in the challenges present in mechanics, well then, go ahead, it does not bother me, and it should not bother you that I play my way.

This "Meta" has to end

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sligh.2789

Sligh.2789

No matter what you guys suggest, the meta will always be the fastest and most efficient way to beat something, which will always be the point where you no longer need more defense and can focus everything else into offense; Zerker gear falls into this category.(along with Assassin)

Even if you nerf it, or change the game in some way, the meta will shift to another gear/trait set-up to maximize speed.
snip
People will always prefer the faster methods, so taking 5x longer to kill an enemy isn’t on their list of things to do.
snip
tl;dr Either Zerker is meta, or something else will take its place. Going against this is pointless.

Not all players, and I would venture most players, do not need the Meta to succeed in this game. I have lots of gold and things, and I have not run a Zerk build except for maybe a week. I have a good story of being berated by 4 zerkers dead on the ground while I finished off the Dungeon Champ solo on my Ranger, they were actually telling me that my build was kitten. While they lay dead on the ground, just priceless IMHO.
It would appear by your comments that you play for the cool stuff instead of just playing the game. That is where the divide exists between the Zerkers and the players. You can play any way you want, just please do not try to tell me that your way is better. It might be a few seconds faster, but that does not make it better.

Getting Tendoms instead of Fangs REALLY?

16 tries and nothing but Tendons. RNG is not this lopsided. I have good luck, FIrst three fangs from red purple and blue in first day. 5 days since then, 16 attempts, no fang from Gold.
I understand they like the RNG and they think there is nothing wrong with it, but sometimes the extreme outliers are so blatant, yet they do not seem to believe that there may be a problem.

Which extractor are you using?

Not a tendon extractor.

Have you tried silver? Is anyone else having issues getting fangs from the teragriffs?

The one person from the first page had the same issue and took 32 attempts. Perhaps the drop rate for those two bosses is incorrect?

I created a report in the bug forum. I’d send an email but I’d likely get the standard “we’ll forward this on” response and I’d prefer any response to be available for everyone to see.

I was trying to get the Fang from the Yellow under boss Troll. Attempt 18 was a success. If the next iteration keeps adding to the drop tables, I doubt it will interest me, as that will take months when we get to the last armor piece. I find having to repeat the instanced content to be counter to a living world, but that is for a different forum.

Precursors drop everywhere. This is bad.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sligh.2789

Sligh.2789

The reason precursors feel so nasty to acquire isn’t that they’re too rare. Based on my knowledge of MMOs, players will literally grind for anything. The problem is that they’re too distributed.

Spamming autoattack on world bosses and farm trains shouldn’t get you essentially the same odds for a precursor as Arah or FotM 50. There’s absolutely no reason for there to even be a minuscule chance of them dropping off of trash mobs.

When so much faceroll content has odds of dropping a pre, the odds for any given activity have to be crazy low to keep the supply limited. Players are pushed into this global lottery where nothing feels like progression. Why work my way up to harder content if it won’t even improve my chances?

This leads to a situation where the most effective method is to find the easiest gold grind and buy it off the TP, rather than actually putting any effort into playing the game. This feel cheap to do, and is the reason why legendaries have near zero prestige right now. When you see a legendary these days, all it means is “farmer” or “RNGeesus”.

My suggestion:Take precursors off of trash mob loot tables. Take them out of afk-auto world bosses. Dramatically raise the odds of them dropping in actual content, so that players get to feel like they can do something about getting them, and they regain a bit of prestige factor.

What do you guys think? Would it actually help the process of getting a legendary feel more special, or would it see too much casual backlash?

This game is designed for the casual player. Removing the casual players ability to get a Legendary would destroy the franchise. It will never happen. They implemented Fractals for the hardcore player, those weapon skins are for the hardcore gamer I believe. The game is actual content from level 1, there is no need for “endgame” content as the hardcore player sees it. There is disdain for the casual player in your words, and it is more than evident.
I have received 4 precursors by playing the game, including using the forge. By playing all avenues that the game offers is how you increase your chances. Low level mobs, high level risen chickens, the forge, and World bosses all have the possibility to drop them, so go play more of them. I did trade one in to get one I wanted, built 2 without buying the materials, and sold two.

Is the Crystal Egg actually holding Glint?

in Living World

Posted by: Sligh.2789

Sligh.2789

What if she had a backup plan to be re-born sort of like how a Phoenix would rise from it’s ashes, perhaps Glint can resurrect from her crystals.

We don’t know if this is possible, but we can’t rule it out either.

Actually… I think it’s very possible.

In Glint’s lair we see memories recorded in the crystals. It’s a safe bet that the egg and the dragon within it are crystalline. Glint was telepathic, and I’m sure she could record her memories into a crystal if she so chose to do so.

The egg may not hatch into Glint, but it’s very likely that she’s deposited a lot of her knowledge into it. When it hatches, it will have access to all that information and knowledge. The problem is, it will have access to ALL of it. I don’t think Glint’s brain came with an index file, so finding the information it/we need on demand is going to be the challenge.

The knowledge of the Forgotten is of utmost importance to defeating the Elder Dragons. I also sense the knowledge from Glint is present in her spawn. I expect that if it hatches, there will be a HUGE Elder Dragon race to eliminate it.

I presume Sligh refers to the Luminescent Shoulders, (not the Carapace Armour) which is the Collection reward for the achievements in the main story arc. That requires repeating the story

Well the parts of the Luminescant shoulders are findable through playing in the silverwastes though. It’s how you get the luminescnet strap, the shoulderpieces if you don’t wish to replay the story instances and the mordrem parts which you get from defeating the bosses at the end of the eventchain. As such the only thing not available in the sivlerwastes itself is the firefly piece which you ahve to get in caledon and infuse in the silverwastes. Even the ascended trinket that you get from completing all the achievements is available to be bought with bandit crest you get from playing the events in the silverwastes map.

So even if OP wasn’t talking about the carapace shoulders , it still doesn’t require you to relive the story part of this update.

Caithe’s Blossom is only available by redoing all the instanced content, and for sale only after completing that meta achievement after reliving the same content over and over. It should be available for sale without the requirement to do the instanced content over and over. So much for a living world, as it stands right now, it is relive it over and over, or get lost.

My guess is a recipe for a Mendel dagger. Scroll, Coins, Gift, Shells.

The thing is, you cannot put the original bought delaqua blade skin in the forge and transmuted weapons work as if they were not transmuted.

I realized that and adjusted my note. It may also be upgradable to the dagger no one can find, or it may be that dagger as the outcome, Reaper of Souls. Probably the Gift of the Nobleman, or the currently available Gift of Souls.

Right now, you can click to buy 9 gems for 1 Gold 250 times to get 2250 gems total for 250 Gold.
Your top option is to click once to buy 1826 gems for 250 Gold.

Clearly a bug. Please fix it so that the quantities are the same in multiples, just like the buying gold with gems is.
