No cutscene to wrap up the whole non event of this Living Story full of bugs, just like the permanent parts of the game, fitting to say the least.
I have lost all faith in the ablility of the management team to put together a cohesive working idea.
I went to the bar, and it was like a comic book written by a 10 year old, just devastatingly weak, boring, and uninteresting.
I hope the Brisbane Wildlands story line is at least interesting.

I see, fantastic. So is it just the tooltip display that’s bugged or are the bonuses actually not being applied again? Is there a more up to date thread I can follow on this issue?

Thanks for the reply.

Let us discuss 2 different players.

  1. is a casual player who enjoys the lay of the digital landscape and the thrill of every encounter, playing a multitude of classes with many weapon sets to flesh out the many playstyles and tactics available by skill and weapon combinations. He is a consummate player that gets excited when an exotic weapon drops.
  2. is a hard core gamer and has to have the best item skins and stats immediately. He labors repeating the same content over and over to get a digital item with no value, other than to his vanity.

Anet has decided to cater to both parties, but the hard core get the shaft, the casual gamer is in heaven. I love it that they complain instead of being able to look at it from player #1’s point of view. I think that is borne from how young gamers never immersed themselves in games as I did when I started pencil and paper gaming in the 70’s.

I have said since the beginning they need to hire a communication manager.
Good communication is key if you are going to host a forum like this. The team members associated with the forum do not seem to understand basic corporate communication principals, and it hurts them every time they post.
I had hope until I saw the video releases, and then when I look at some responses I just have to [shake head]

I was once in a dungeon with some warrior zerkers. They berated me the whole time, they lay on the ground dead, while I killed the boss solo. It was amazing that I could not convince them that my build was superior to theirs, as 4 of them could not even dent the boss, yet I was able to kill him solo.
The zerker crowd bases their stand on the fact that they circumvent the game by stacking damage to avoid playing the game, no skill involved in that.
As a solo ranger, I would say that I showed them what skill is.

World vs. World bonuses not applied in PvE

Sligh.2789

OK, they are aware of the bug as of 22 days ago when an Anet employee from the (wait for it) Arenanet QA team said they would get back to us with an update. To date, nothing from them.
When you hover your cursor over the WVW “rook” icon in the upper left of your screen, and you see [World vs. World"B"], you are not getting the bonuses that are listed, on the second tab, of the WvW detailed score screen.

Having lived with this bug for 6 months when the game first launched, it was a pleasure to find out that all were affected out of WvW, instead of just a few people like me in the first iteration. Imagine not getting the avg. 10% bonus to gold, XP, gathering, health, defense, etc while the rest of the world had the edge for 6 months.
This time, they have at least acknowledged the bug. I personally was hoping for some type of update within three weeks, but whatever.
I am not sure, but I think as they are moving along with the game, they are rewriting code, and it is not meshing well with the game code that the game was based on. It is a regular occurrence for bugs to reappear after a patch, without any QC checks in place.
Well any way, they are looking at it, so we just have to wait for them to fix it.
After not getting these bonuses the first iteration of the bug, I never really had the gumption to go help in WvW, as I never got any rewards, and, really, I was 10% behind everybody that had it for 6 months more than I did.

I can’t agree by the slightest. WwW is so huge, complex, teamwork if wanted/needed, basicly loads of possibilities for players.

Basicly, it could easely have been its own game by itself.
You cant complain and say Battlefield is a waste of time/timesink, same with Call of Duty, “FiFA”, Age of Empires etc etc etc etc ………

You dont buy Battlefield because there is a great looking weapon in the game somewhere you would like to take a screenshot of, you buy it because you like the thrill of the fight and action.

You dont play WwW to get better armor or more cash, you play it because you like the thrill of competing with other players or be godlike PWN!

Now have me exscused, me got some noobs to pester and destroy!"

I have been playing since pencil and paper, so my opinion might be dated.
I never liked the PVP at all, just my own opinion. I was in WvW doing the Mapping when I came a cross a commander that had been ganked. I ressed him and he asked me to help him regain a tower. We killed 8 defenders and then defended the tower for 2 hours until additional player arrived. It was fun, we were on TS3 talking tactics the whole time. That was really enough for my nerves, as I needed to take a break. If I was 18, I could probably handle all day WvW or PvP, but at 50, PVE is all my nerves can handle for more than an hour.

Birthday gift…i think everyone likes that buff.

  1. Ok, granted. Do most people keep one on each of their characters? Maybe it is just me who dumped all 5 in my bank?
  2. I guess that it was just a poor assumption that anyone would have a character that was in game for a year and still be less then L20. I was thinking that it takes about a weekend to get to >L20 so to be less than that after a years time would barely be possible, I stand corrected.
  3. Agreed, the birthday buff is fine.

Anyone else care to chime in?

Sligh.2789

This same bug was in place after launch until about the 6 month mark. Many players never received the bonuses, and there was no acknowledgement until they fixed the problem, and it was a one line reference in a patch note.
WHen you hover your mouse cursor over the “rook” WvW icon on the upper left of your screen and you see { World vs. World [B] }, YOU ARE NOT GETTING THE BONUSES that you see when you open the new WvW screen and look at the “detailed score” tab.
NO increased XP, gold, or defense to monsters, no increase in gathering, no health increase, no crafting critical chance, no endurance gain, no healing effectiveness increase.
Basically those of us not getting the bonus are playing a different game than those that do. Some of us play one game, others play another game that is much better. Why they charged me the same price and then left out a bonus that they gave to others is beyond me. Why am I treated like a lesser citizen by this company?

Since this last patch, the Power of the Mists bonuses are not applied to my account. This happened for the first 6 months the game was live, and it is now returned. The first time it happened, there was a problem with “the way the clock interpreted other areas”.
I want the Power of the Mists Bonuses as I am losing money and harvesting.

Players, don’t look at the expected bonuses in the second tab of the new window, Hover your cursor over the WvW Icon on the upper left side of your screen. If You see{World vs. World [B]}, you ARE NOT GETTING ANY POWER OF THE MISTS bonus.

Last time it took Anet 6 months to even acknowledge this bug, please acknowledge and fix this fast.

FYI, yes I am not in an overflow. I have no increase from the Hero screen white numbers even though I should have a 7% increase in health. I am not getting bonus per kill XP, I am not getting bonus harvests, I am not getting bonus gold per kill, I am not getting increased defense against monsters, Etc Etc.

Rank 30 WvW Required for Gift of Battle Grind

Sligh.2789

When the game launched, I thought I was getting scammed when I found out the Mists bonuses I was supposed to get from WvW were not being applied to my account. None of my guildies were receiving it either.
I asked an Anet employee whether I should get a refund, and live with losing all the Guild benefits we had amassed, or just continue playing the game flawed. I was better than most having played without all the bonuses, but I was also poorer and had much less harvest materials.
I explained to them how the fact that they would not even acknowledge the bug was making clear grounds for a class action lawsuit (it did, trust me). Magically three days later, the bug was fixed, however, the damage had been done.
Many players that realized that they werenot getting the bonuses for more than three months chimed in on the thread that they would never step foot in that area. I went in for the mapping, nothing more.
I have a precursor and the Gift of battle, I will not go there ever again by being forced. Anet ruined my server support attitude and desire to help my server players by not giving me anything for it for three months ( actually longer but I digress)

I have hit the monsters tons of times and watched it give me split XP between myself my wife and a friend. Why am I seeing different then everyone seems to be telling me when I watch for things like that in all games. So I know if I can play with people I do not know or not. Its a MMO and thats just how they are no matter if it says it or not there is always a loop hole around it. I have watched it while I played and watched it while my wife played its happening so if its not suppose to then there needs to be a fix cause I sure as heck took my wifes loot and watch a split in XP more then tons of times. Anyway what I see and what others see has to do with people not caring about loot and XP and I do cause it matters to the character getting stronger and if someone else is getting it then I am not leveling or getting what I need for my character. I have seen myself get loot for my wifes class while she got loot for mine or others it makes no sense if its specific for us…if it was we would be getting loot for our class not someone elses. and if the mob was suppose to give us our own loot it would be the same for me as it would be for my wife and its not. never has been.

Super Nintendo is good, I think you will like it based on your comments. Truly, I mean that.
You need to immerse yourself in the world, it is not just about rewards, those things are secondary to a world as beautiful and deep as Tyria. Forget about rewards and just play the game, the rewards will be there.

CDI- Process Evolution 2

in CDI

Posted by: Sligh.2789

Sligh.2789

I have long proffered the idea that there needs to be a more concerted effort in acknowledging and identifying the ideas that the community puts forth. This whole CDI program fits the mold, but it has not yet spilled over to other parts of the forums.

Case in Point: about 21/2 months ago in the bug thread, an Anet employee responded to a pretty important bug, Slaying Potion cause you to take 10% more damage, rather than 10% less as stated in the description. The Anet employee stated he would post to the forum after he checked to see if this was a bug, and when we could expect a fix. He was transferred to a new position the next day, and never responded. The bug has not been acknowledged by anyone since because they see the red post marker, and they think someone else is handling that bug.

As a Customer Service professional for years, there are clearly huge gaps in what the community thinks is important getting recognized, and what the Anet team recognizes. Just a simple, "we are aware " and then responding with a clear and concerted response of either “a bug, we will get to it sometime” or not a bug, wording fix coming", would allow Anet to seem connected in some way. Two and 1/2 months of no response makes it feel like you are not even looking at the threads. That said, I think it is necessary to assign a small group of people to track and disseminate to the Anet team the scores of problems, and then have that person act as a communicator in responding to said reports.
In the CDI, I understand that you are formulating your ideas, and it is better to be closer to the talking points. In the case of Bug Threads, Skill threads, discussion threads, and the like, a more collective effort with collective response is needed.
Just as Gaile handles the community for complaints, there needs to be someone for bugs, discussion and other threads as well to condense, mitigate and respond to every thread. I also understand that that is in a perfect world, but IMHO, you are not moving in that direction, and that causes the derision in the forums over how Anet seems to not think that a response is necessary.
My idea in a nutshell, get someone to note and respond to all bugs reported on a daily basis, hire a communication specialist to make sure that it goes correctly to repair and improve your reputation.

Any Slaying potion causes the drinker to take 10% additional damage from the named enemy type. The drinker should take 10% LESS damage according to the tool tip.

Economic activity is being affected as the potions are not being used because they are bugged. Slayer potions sell for a few copper, much less than what they cost to make.

A developer once posted that he would tell someone to look into it, but got transferred to another department, and this has fallen off the radar of the Bug listing. There has been no response for 2 months, and no developer is even aware of the bug.

Living Story analysis

Sligh.2789

I had a DM that ran a similarly tight-lipped story line that we are experiencing with the living story. It was full of bland sidestory references to the over arcing story, and it was sometimes impossible to recognize the real important issues and hints as they were presented. As a Thief in D&D3.5, I concentrated on my own back and really just went with the flow of the world of Creath, I looked at the big picture without analyzing the myriad of small pictures.

The following 2 you tube videos are made by an old DM (or he should have been). I was able to piece together a few connections as this story has progressed, however, this is a really good overview I found on You Tube.

Many Kudos to Wooden Potatoes. I am glad you were not my DM.

  1. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MSicD-CA4lM
  2. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-EsWtkj6f2k
There are more that progress the story line you can find.

This is good for new players and old alike if you were too quick to judge the content and too impatient (like me) to let the story develop. As I used to tell my DM, I need more hints to put it all together. Unfortunatley it is very hard to walk that fine line between keeping suspense, keeping too much info from flowing out, and keeping the element of surprise in balance.

Haha, I’m not one of those people that sends hate messages over a forum. But I have played a Ranger since Guild Wars 1 and have experimented with many, many builds for years. I basically studied Rangers in Guild Wars 1 and I continued that obsession in Guild Wars 2, but couldn’t get the same effect as I did in GW1. I found that the Ranger’s damage is the second worst in the game, only above Engineers. But opinions are opinions.

Actually when played in their max dps meta builds, rangers have the third-highest dps of all, mesmers being the worst.

I like having the zerkers yelling at me as they are laying on the ground dead, as I take the boss down. It just feels so good when they tell me I am gimping them after they die.
you want challenge, run a balanced build and play the game instead of zerking all challenge out the window.

If it is, you are not playing the game and enjoying the game as designed. Find a new game, something that you only do one thing. Why would you want to enjoy the plethora of things to do in this game?

When I play, I feel like the game was unfinished and parts were quickly placed to get it to release after the cash cow aspect was discovered by management. That the original post was moved, speaks even more clearly to the topic I discussed in my post.

I understand why they had to move it, but the fact that no management member is even aware of it is devastating to the brand that Guild Wars built up.
