Solution to all the Zerk hating peeps

Sligh.2789

The problem is not Zerk haters hating Zerkers. The problem lies in the difference between the playstyles of the two factions.
1)Zerkers (for the large majority) view the game in a way where they are looking to beat it as fast as possible to get to the rewards. The loss of 1 or 2 minutes of time is less than the most efficient completion time of the stated goal to accept the rewards. This type of player is bent on domination of the game for maximum rewards as fast as possible.
2) Non zerker players are more interested in playing the game to play, experiment with different classes and builds that may not be as efficient or fast as zerkers, but result in a win just the same. I feel this is a more skilled and intelligent way to play, as there are more obstacles and harder gameplay, as you are not able to burn down the enemy before they are able to challenge you with their abilities.
When the zerkers stop discriminating against the non zerker for wanting to play differently, even if it does slow down the zerkers speed run design, there will be a head on collision in playstyle thinking.
Let the zerkers play their brand of gaming. I will play my style of gaming, one that takes in all the beautiful graphics, NPC interaction, enemy tactics mitigation through skilled build, skill, and combat maneuvers, and I will enjoy it.
No zerker can take the enjoyment I have in taking down a dungeon boss solo, while they lie dead on the ground telling me that my build/gear/armor is inferior. Ever.

No offense but what I read was “this is in my opinion the more intelligent way to play because it’s how I play.”

It’s also not 1 or 2 minutes different. It can mean the difference of 2 hours if you’re attempting the more difficult content (fractals, some arah paths I’ve encountered). For me… I can play at most 40 minutes per day. Do I run 2 TA paths or 1? That’s the choice. Berserker or not berserker. More or less dungeons. Hm.

It is my opinion, that I play the way I play, because I like it that way. If you are limited in your play time and need to zerk your way to rewards, that is fine with me. That is the intelligent choice in your situation. I have been gaming since pencil and paper games debuted in the early 70’s, and the immersion is key for my enjoyment.
Without trying to be condescending, I find that most younger gamers have a desire to speed beat every game they play, and this zerker bias/zerker bashing debate is a direct result of the two types of gameplay. I like the way I play and enjoy the challenge of using a seemingly worse class/weapon/build to beat an enemy. The challenge is the game to me.

I’m growing concerned over the number of threads popping up in these forums from people wanting to pay for services. Its a good idea, Sligh, but it should be a free one.

Asking to pay for services that should exist for everyone already, to fix broken systems, or worse yet – services that would break the game… Its a downward spiral.

I agree with you. But Anet’s insistence of monetizing Guild upgrades at exhorbitant prices for the normal Guild size of 1-5 friends would not allow it to be usable by those small guilds. adding the item in a way that it is usable by ALL guilds is key, and the only other option Anet provides is the hated gem store item.

I am an old school gamer, and I game to game. I never aimed to get a precursor. I threw lvl 80 golds into the forge once a week to see of I could get a few exotics to use.
I would have preferred it to drop from an enemy.
The Forge IMHO is a bad thing immersion wise. Understand, I play the game, I do not play to amass currencies in bulk at the expense of immersion. If the Forge did not exist as an avenue to aquire precursors, the plethora of them in the world would aloow them to live up to the name Legendary. As it is right now, they are not legendary at all.

Dedicated Shards Option?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Sligh.2789

This could be added to the Guild Upgrades area. It would allow the user to enter a map in a personal shard to be used for Guild events.
Adding Alliances to Guild Menu would allow the shard to be entered only by triggering Guild members, or Alliance members only.
This should be a low cost item allowing to allow even the smallest guild to spawn a map for personal use.

The problem with GW2 is I keep reading SOOO many reviews about how certain classes can end up being dead weight endgame. Or I read a review that says a class is good PvP, but worthless endgame
<<.snip.>>
When WoW first came out I chose a pally to take endgame, once I finally got up there it was a waste of time to me, pally could only do HALF of any assigned task and to top that off they were a DPS joke and most of our DPS came from …auto swings = boring.

1) It should be about the pleasure you derive from playing the class/style you like, not about the reviews you read from hardcore dungeon or PvP players. No class is dead weight if it is played properly. If you are about nothing but speed farming dungeons as end game, then clearly go Zerker warrior.
2) Clearly you will play this game just as you played WOW. This si not WOW, it is GW2. Immersion into your character is how you find out what you like. At level 10, you have not even scraped the edges of what each class can do. My ranger had defeated dungeon bosses that 4 zerkers failed at. They even berated me, (while laying on the floor dead) as I single handedly defeated the boss, that my build was inferior. Your WOW attitude will lead to disappointment unless you play the game. Exploiting weaknesses in the game to get max reward for no skill involvement is not what this game is about, although many play that way.

Stacks disappear underwater

Classic example of someone that has no sense of logic. Why would you retain your stacks when you are equipping a separate set of weapons for underwater with no sigil of bloodlust on it. This is how it should work.

As a staff ele I have 2 weaps, staff and trident. There is NO option to swap at all. Fine, I removed the trident, killed a few things and jumped into the water. Lost the stacks.
Is this also how it is suppose to work????

So when you equip a separate set of weapons for underwater with the bloodlust sigil, it is being transferred from your land weapons? How is this logical?

OK, you hold a weapon that provides you a stack of bloodlust when you kill with it. So if I equip another weapon with the sigil that benefit should continue to be with me, Now I equip a weapon for underwater without the sigil, and I should keep my stacks of bloodlust? sounds OP to me.

dual axes – bloodlust and battle

GS – bloodlust and force
harpoon gun – bloodlust & strength

There has to be a problem that is causing your removal of bloodlust stacks, but I am not having this problem AT ALL.

“Zerk” is a style of play that is geared to one end, rewards as fast as possible without delay. Players who use it are not playing the game to play, they are playing to extract as much digital monetary excitement as they can get. It is that simple.
The casual gamer in any other gear set is playing the game to have fun, and relishes the rewards he gets.

Ingame Clock Server Time bugged? [NA]

Since launch the server time option for the in game clock would coincide with the pst/pdt time in the west coast of the USA (which is where there servers were located).
Right now it is 10:35pm pacific time yet the ingame clock is showing 5:35am. So the servers have been moved to the middle of the Atlantic?

Is this a bug?

Regardless of the reason, it’s an awful change.

Still not a bug.

I think this is getting the rest of the game ready to have the timekeeping coding reworked. I think it is actually supposed to eliminate a lot of bugs.

That isn’t new by any means. They collect about pretty much everything we do. Where we are in which zone, how many fps we have, how much memory gw2.exe is using, which graphic setting we use. And also how much damage we do. This is a good way to track the consequences of changes but they wont be able to determine the causes of these consequences. They have to find the causes themselves, which they often fail to do. Or they aren’t able to fix the issues.

All in all, their datamining isn’t bad, in fact, it helps to determine bugs or malfunctions.
But if they aren’t able to reliably determine the cause of those bugs, which they aren’t currently, atleast in my mind, all their datamining wont mean much.

I personally think that the timekeeping problem is the crux of many of the game bugs that exist. They started rewriting that code in the different sections of the coding last year when the Mists Bonuses weren’t being received by a large portion of the player base. They have since, on a regular basis, mentioned timekeeping in many threads related to bugs.
As far as bugs being reintroduced into the game after being fixed, well that shows a lack of QC oversight, no bug should ever be reintroduced after being fixed. They have not learned to learn by their mistakes to avoid making them repeatedly.
They still use a dedicated server to try to replicate bugs that players see in the live servers, and they can only replicate the minor bugs. They have not learned that they need live server conditions to see the bugs we see.
Just my humble opinion.

So I need to hurry and get my achievements. So this is the result of eliminating mindless zergs and going for coordinated gameplay that so many people asked for? Ironic isn’t it

The large Guilds asked for coordinated gameplay with tactical thinking required. The casual player asked to get rid of the Zerg play. So they helped out the big guild players with coordinated gameplay. The casual player still has the World Boss train, and the FGS Champ train. No coordination required.
As a casual player, I will not be joining a mega guild to access the rewards locked away from me in the big Guild membership. I am always looking for challenging content to solo, and I find a lot, but I have now mastered them to the “T”, and I need more.

You get one in the Mail on each character you create after the link. Though, occasionally they do not arrive.

If you check your inventory, you should see the tokens & tickets you have received.

Why we hear nothing but Silence from ANet?

The CDI initiative appears kaput, and the four or five feedback threads on feature patch features haven’t garnered a single substantive response.

I don’t think it’s adequate to say ’We’re reading what you post’ if they fail to actually respond to concerns raised.

Comes a point where I need to know what’s coming up or what Arenanet developers actually think about the feedback being offered in order to have ‘faith’ in where they’re setting their development in future.

I mean, take the feature patch – some of those features could’ve been improved significantly if we’d had the opportunity to offer feedback in advance; ie, before they were baked and almost ready to be rolled out. But that’s rather typical of arenanet’s community-communications style: they work on what they got and put it out, THEN get surprised by feedback.

Most other industries seek customer feedback in a multistage iterative process during product creation, and it only makes sense. Even in MMOland, look at Blizzard – discussing the upcoming expansion in detail a year or more out from release.

Even in the CDI threads, developer commentary basically amounted to ‘Yeah, we read that. It’s interesting’.

I hate to say it; we need a ‘Ghostcrawler’.

Hi,

The CDI is not Kaput at all. I have just been extremely busy like the rest of the team and as I have said before there is absolutely no point in doing a CDI if we cannot contribute properly to it.

A new CDI will be coming shortly! Thanks for your patience.

Chris

This is a response mired in the inability of the Anet team to understand the importance of proper corporate communication. I have offered my humble opinion many times, that they need to hire a communications expert, and let that persons team handle the communication. It is obvious that there are too many Indians and no “Chief” involved in the give and take from the community.
As developers, you need your responses tempered through a single channel that can ensure that all answers are coherent and address the concern that the answer is intended to address.
Your response shows that you have an ongoing CDI that nobody is paying attention to because you are too busy. Why wasn’t the CDI stopped or paused, or more importantly, why wasn’t there a person designated to continue the process while others were too busy? The brand is now tarnished because whenever you are “too busy”, the community is not that important.
Most corporate entities understand that the customer is always first and should never be ignored for even a scant few seconds. One person designated to communicate on your behalf in a concerted effort to streamline your thoughts, and those of your peers, would be a first step in honing the points of your interest, and eliminating those points that you feel are not germane to your future view of the game. Being able to eliminate the things you do not want to talk about within the CDI threads for whatever reason you have, and relating that reason accurately, would go a long way to dampening the continued derision you breed in the forums with no response or comment.
IMHO, hire a communications liaison today. 10-20 different people communicating (when they are not too busy) is the problem. Communicate as Anet, not a developer.

The coders may be simplifying the code to allow the management team to get what they want, but the management team has no idea why they want it. Everything just seems to have no direction in mind. I was unable to get into the same map with the people I have been gaming with since inception. I was put into a Lag infested cluster fudge with rude morons from a lot of different servers. Suffice it to say it was not fun at all. No community feeling AT ALL. What a slap in the face to the servers like SBI that was compromised of mature people having fun and working together for common goals. I had to switch maps to get on the same map with a Guild member.
At my age it is about community and interaction with others. The megaserver idea just wiped that from the game for me.
This should have been enabled for the low end servers that needed help doing the Teq and Wurm runs, or with very low populations, the established servers should have been left alone.

The problem will continue and become a bigger strain on the brand of Guild Wars as time passes unless the problem is addressed.
The lack of inclusion of different language communities is just a manifestation of a misguided communication policy.

The second tab (detailed score) shows what the server has qualified for in the bonus categories, not what you get. (also, they are actually not calculating correctly in the tool tip) When you hover your cursor over the “rook” icon on the upper left of your screen, that will show you a black ‘tool tip’ box with the bonuses your character is receiving from the Mists Bonuses. If you see [WvW ‘B’], you are not getting any bonus that your server has earned. If you see the categories listed in detail, you are receiving the bonuses (although they are not the same as the detail page shows).
I think they borked the coding on this one really bad. Probably another month till they get it right.

For more than a year I have let them know that they need a communication manager. They need to put forth a clear concise message that is not subject to the whim of the random developer saying the wrong thing. It has happened MANY times, and the brand of Guild Wars takes the lashing for it. It would do them wonders if they had someone who knew how to communicate to masses in continuity form.
