Raining Precursors?

Congratulations to you and your guildies/friends for getting drenched by the rain of precursors.

PS I always enjoy your threads, Smooth Penguin. You always find a new way to stir up responses, even though your other posts prove you know that streaks are common, whether of good or ill luck.

Here’s the thing. I don’t believe in “lucky accounts”, nor am I really inherently lucky. I’ve tossed hundreds upon hundreds of Rare and Exotic Greatswords into the MF, and never got anything back. Never. The only time that I end up getting Precursors is right after a buggy update. That’s why I’m questioning if anyone felt like they were luckier than normal in the past 24 to 48 hours.

John would never intentionally increase drop rates on luxury goods. My theory is that the internal mechanism that controls the world’s RNG for the Mystic Forge was affected by the Tuesday update.

Speaking of champ bags, I ended up getting about 3 or 4 Exotics from my stack bags from SW chest runs tonite. In the past, I was lucky if I got just 1 Exotic from a couple of stacks.

Maybe Evon Gnashblade did something that increased drop rates across the board. I wouldn’t be surprised, since he’s best charr.

50/50 HoM - AP taken away by Aiti

Here’s a bug I just found. When playing existing characters, there’s no issue. But once you create a new character on an empty slot, Scholar Aiti automatically sends you a mail saying there was a title-issuing error. At this point, while on the brand new toon, Aiti takes away 550 Achievement Points.

After logging out and deleting the new toon, then logging back in on an existing toon, the game gives you back the 550 AP, and it shows as if you just achieved it.

I managed to grab my second Spark today from Zommoros, and my guildies also got Spark and Zap (and then made Bolt). I’m not sure if the RNG gods are shining their light upon us, or if the update did something to the drop rates. With all the wackiness that’s happened today, and still is happening, I’m tempted in investing in a ton of Exotics to test out the Mystic Forge rates.

Has anyone felt unnaturally lucky today?

Home instances and soon guild halls so adding ANOTHER “home” option would seem redundant and just pointless. you don’t even know whats gonna be available with guild halls so not much point to it.

Not sure you understood the idea. Player housing would be within the Home Instance. Perhaps I didn’t clarify that sooner? The idea is to take an area in your Home Instance, and allow options for customization. This could satisfy players who wish for such a mechanic, and it could help Anet by providing another source of revenue with Gem Store purchasable upgrades.

So why are you posting here?

Because I’m in agreement with the thread title “Banning is NOT the solution”. Far too many times, other players have attacked my guild publicly. Even when they were on TC for a short time. If I remember correctly, a Dev needed to respond to all the posts about us, confirming my guild wasn’t trolling. They even had to delete threads that tried to blacklist us. I like the idea of a city hub where your home is a part of your Guild. That could make for interesting mechanics, where guildies can roam the city and visit each person’s home. I can’t help but think of Minecraft or Second Life, only on a graphically superior platform.

Heck, why not implement server leasing, where players can pay X Gems per month to have their own “city” to build Guild Halls or Player Housing as they see fit. Then you can allow anyone access, or limit access to guildies, friends in contact list, etc. Or even password protect entry. This would be similar to Custom Arenas in SPvP.

I believe its because counter productive to have a chunk of your player base not out in the world actually playing the game, doing game play things. For a game that relies heavily on player density to make the world look active, the last thing they want to do is thin the population out, nor wall off player interaction.

That said… we already have Home instances that do everything you’ve mentioned. The problem has always been there being no practical benefit to having these in the game, other then home instance harvesting nodes.

The fact that you don’t even mention this in your post just goes to show how little people think about it.

Player housing would be in their Home Instance. There’s plenty of room to modify the instance to make room for housing. An idea could be to create a garden full of harvesting nodes in front of the player’s house. That would require the ability to move nodes as you see fit.

And just an FYI, people do use their Home Instance to RP or to hang out. Just because you don’t have guildies or friends who do that, doesn’t mean the community doesn’t exist. It’s no different from AFKing in LA or Southsun.

Smooth Penguin.5294

I’ve taken the major step that most people do in their lives. I’ve gone and purchased my first home. Due to this, I will need to sacrifice Gem purchases in lieu of being able to feed my family. Canned tuna and discount loaves of bread will be my staple of choice for the next few years. Happy times, yet scary times at this juncture in my life.

So with my real life events unfolding, that lead me to the following thought: “If I can buy a home in real life, why can’t I do the same in Guild Wars 2?”

Segueing into the game, I implore Colin to allow us to invest in player housing. You have at hand the perfect opportunity to not only expand the dynamics of the game, but also allow NC Soft yet another form of Gem revenue.

Monetization of Player Housing

Unlike Guild Halls, player housing can be an instanced event that’s only attainable via Gem Store. Purchasing in game should be very cost heavy, as to emulate real life. Housing should be a luxury that is available to all players willing to pay. Think of it as another type of “Legendary journey”.

  • Gems costs to buy the base home model
  • Gem/Gold fees for expansion options like more rooms or additional floors
  • Paint options (house skins)
  • Option to turn Mini Pets into Home Pets
  • Furniture (that can be used!)

Simply add a new tab to the Gem Store for housing options, and watch the money flow into your coffers like Niagara Falls.

Roleplayer heaven

Have you ever wanted to be the crazy cat lady down the street? Well now you can! Fill your home with Gem Store purchased ambient feline friends, and invite your guild-mates over for good times.

Getting married to the charr of your dreams? Take a stroll down the chapel in Lion’s Arch, and then head to your new home for a private honeymoon!

Tired of bookahs getting in the way of your experiments? Purchase your own private lab, and your krewe can explode samples without collateral damage!

Build your own private brewery, and throw the Moot of the year!

The RPing ideas are endless with Player Housing!

Conclusion

Anet is missing the opportunity. People will throw money at you for this type of cosmetic fluff. The Dev costs to program this would be paid in full within a month of the Gem Store explosion. I predict NC Soft share values skyrocketing due to the huge windfall of profits that would follow in the coming quarterly reports. It also wouldn’t interfere with any Living Story or other game mechanics, since it’s instanced outside of the live world.

And if Anet should not implement this, at least give us Cantha.

Yeah, here’s the thing – it wasn’t just me. Someone else had their screen freeze then everything running at twice normal speed. Someone else said they suddenly had a 1.4k ping at burn.

It was fine yesterday. The day before. The week before. And in every other part of the game today besides Tequatl burn phases. In fact, this is the first time this has ever happened. Usually when a graphics card is reaching the end of it’s capabilities – I start noticing increasing lag and inability to handle basic rendering. That’s not what happened here which leads me to think it’s the game – especially with other players having odd glitches.

My screen froze. Completely. Then abruptly resumed after the burn phase. I’ll try it again tonight with nothing but GW2 running and see if I get a repeat.

That person is hitting a major lag spike. That explains why the character would run at 2x speed, since the server is catching your client up. But in lag spikes, you don’t freeze. Your character moves freely, and everyone either stops moving, or moves in a constant direction that they last moved. With the latter, look at your mini map, and watch your ally dots move. You’ll see that some will keep moving until they hit an obstacle. Others will keep moving in the same direction off the map. In this case, it’s the ISP that’s having issues.

If you freeze completely, that’s your system. If it’s Anet, then everyone on the map would experience the same as you, not just a person here and there.

The Quartz Chrystal Drought

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Smooth Penguin.5294

My take on this. Sinister gear is being used more now, because it’s cheaper to craft the Ascended version of armors with it. All other Ascended armor costs 5 Laurels for each piece of the recipe (30 Laurels per weight class). For Verata gear, you can buy them on the TP for extremely cheap (comparably). I did this to complete my Ascended armor set of Light, Medium, and Heavy for the achievement. Later, I’ll change the stats with the new MF recipe.

BUT… each inscription only takes 25 Quartz. 6 × 25 is only 150 per weight class. So we can also speculate that some people are crafting and hoarding Sinister inscriptions as an investment.

And I wouldnt suggest to craft givers gs either, unless you want to use them to level your weaponsmith.
Right now it costs 5.5g to craft one but you could buy at least a dozen different gs around the 4g mark directly, 3g on buy order.

If that is your way to go about forging, you would probably make a loss in the long run because you pay 66% more than me per average forge attempt with exotics and 150% more if i use self crafted rares.

Thank you for your gold.

Thanks for the heads up. I’ve been using Givers because I have such a massive stock of Orichalcum, Ancient Wood, Ectos, and Snowflakes. I should be more mindful of their values, esp. with the increase of Ecto prices.

I understand what Wanze is saying, but if other player’s claims are true, then the bar skews from lucky RNG drop to potentially changed forge mechanics.

If one person gets lucky, they’re one of the outliners on the probability scale. But if many get lucky, chances are less that they all got lucky without the help of some unknown deviation.

I attached a graph I found that should help illustrate the chance.

Thats true but you fail to provide substancial evidence that more people like usual got lucky (map chat, forums and personally crafting 1 pre cursor with a lucky roll isnt enough).

While it might be true that more precursors per day were forged since the last patch (causing all that chatter about pre forging in map chat, forums, reddit etc) and through beta weekend its much more likely that the cause of it was an unusual high amount of exotics being thrown into the forge per day (from beta gear boxes) and not a ninja buffed forge rate or forge related bug.

This weekend people who usually dont have the gold to gamble away with exotic weapons had the opportunity to test out the precursor droprate with them without having to pay the price, if they have an unlucky streak and many took advantage of it, at least going for it until they had the first pre.

I didnt pre order yet, so i didnt participate but if i would, i would probably spend my whole game time during that weekend forging exotics, just for personal research.

The rumors covered both Beta slot forging, and regular slot forging. Mine was done on my main. I’ve done 3 more Exotic tries since, and so far nothing. But with my small sample size of 4, I’m at a 25% success rate. I’m guestimating Mea to be a 3.7% with getting Zap. Tman, Seyiwaji and Quarktastic are at 50%. This is on the assumption that they’re all telling the truth. Squishy and rhapsody are at 0%, which would have been the norm.

So yes, more attempts = more successes. But take away the ones who tested it on the Beta slot, and you still have a pretty sizable number of people getting Precursors on regular character slots.

If you’re going to present a theory like this, you need a large sample size. Hearsay isn’t enough.

Yeah, I’m looking to craft more Exotic Giver GS and try.

For me, it’s hard to grasp getting Dawn from 3 random Exotics and a Mystic Stone. Several months ago, I was dumping random Exotic weapons and ended up with Venom, but that was after a bunch of tries. I’m thinking that maybe it was due to me using expensive Exotics? Genesis is quite pricey… Or it could be that I used Exotics with skins I didn’t discover?

I don’t have enough spare Exotic weapons to test this out, so I was hoping for others with valid claims from people not using their Beta slots (i.e. pix).

Genesis x 1

This was my one and only attempt on my Theif and got the attached pic. It leads me to speculate that either I hit the RNG jackpot, or Anet stealth buffed the Precursor chance at the Mystic Forge. I’m thinking the latter, because there have been so many reports of Precursors in the past 24 hours.

Why are Revenant's traits SO bad?

Look, it’s only garbage if your main focus is “DPS kill it faster”. This game is meant for more than just highest damage output. Remember, you sacrifice defense when you go pure offense, hence the term Glass Cannon. We already have Thief and Mesmer burst metas for that. Players like me who can appreciate a support role will thrive. I admit that I am biased in that play style, since my main was an Infuse Monk in GW1 PvP

Give Colin a chance. The community already gave him a hard time with the Pre-Purchase wave of complaints. I think it’s time we shared a little praise for how well the game looks, and how our GW universe is moving forward.

Why are you defining how to play the game for other people? What if all they want out of the game is high DPS? They paid for the product – they get to enjoy it how they want. The people critiquing Revenant aren’t saying take away it’s tankiness or support. They are saying open it up to more options. They are literally asking it to be more diverse, not to switch its focus. Why are against this?

We’ve seen this song and dance before in other professions. People want Zerker type damage so they can be as efficient as possible in PvE. I’m sure Anet will make balance changes to the traits because of feedback. I’m hoping we don’t go down the slippery slope of asking for more, and things getting broken along the way.

To be honest, I think people will get what they’re asking for when the Shiro stance comes out in full force. With that option pretty much guaranteed to be high DPS, the only thing you need to watch for is the re-tweaking of traits.

I’d like to add that the Revenant is not supposed to replace any profession on the battle field. It’s not meant to be an “end all” DPS replacement to the Warrior, or a Condi replacement to the Necro. It’s an option with a different play style and mechanics.

I think it’s a L2P issue. Revenants have a specific role in combat, and it’s up to the player to utilize the mechanics for maximum effectiveness.

You must be a master of revenant. Teach me your ways.

I think if you gear towards Condi, you can find yourself with good sustained damage. With Anet’s Confi buff recently, it has the potential to be seriously overpowered.

I didn’t realize that you can delete your character, and get a full supply of Exotics each time. Couple that with the extensive claims that everyone in Beta slots are getting Precursors, and I’m leaning towards the speculation that Anet Devs made today “Feel-good Friday”.

Yes, you are allowed to play the game how you want. Meaning you don’t have to do damage, but no one is going to want you in the party in PvE. If Anet wants Rev to be a viable PvE class (that is effective), then they need to rework the traits so that Rev can be viable in various roles.

I think the main problem is that a majority of the player base just wants pure DPS characters. Anet knows this is a problem, and has been introducing more and more anti-DPS enemies.

With Revenants, you have some good Support play. We’re not talking old school Trinity. Support players can be effective in group combat, as well as provide some damage output.

Anet is in the Beta stages, and are making adjustments as we go. We’re still a month or two before HoT release, and I have full confidence in Colin’s ability to give us the best game possible.

I admit there can be a few tweaks here and there. But overall, it’s a learning experience. Revenant is new, so let the players test out builds before determining the new meta is useless. To me, it doesn’t make sense to copy and paste mechanics from existing professions. Anet wanted to think outside the box, and give us a new type of profession to mix up combat.

Why are Revenant's traits SO bad?

What I’m saying is that you need to learn and understand how to use the traits. GW2 is a game with dynamic fight mechanics. The traits you select assist your game play. If you feel the traits are weak before even trying to learn to use them, then it’s quite possible the Revenant doesn’t fit your Zerker play style. From what I’m seeing, this profession is more support and sustain than 1-hit kills.

You basically just explained exactly why the Revenant’s traits are problematic. Well… thanks I guess? :/

I was thinking the same lol. He basically proved your point while thinking he was defending these dull traits in PvE. Hilarious!

It’s not fair to make fun of Purple Miku’s lack of diversity. Just because he wants to play only Zerker builds, doesn’t mean he can’t play as a Revanant. Once he learns to trait properly, and equip the appropriate armor specs and runes, he’ll be able to do damage, albeit no 1-shot kill.

Remember, GW2 combat is not based on DPS hack and slash mechanics. If you go full Glass Cannon, you will be punished by PvE monsters who are anti-DPS. A boss that can absorb 80% of physical type attacks will wreck you.

The best players adapt to situations on various characters. That’s why I have one of each profession.

Edit – To add, one should never rely on 1-shot type builds. All or nothing has the biggest risks.

How is it a L2P issue? I’m complaining about the traits being bad, not complaining about having trouble playing it.

I compare this class’s traits to other classes’ traits, and they are dreadful by comparison. All four of the traitlines.

What’s difficult to understand?

You can’t force PvE players to WvW, and vice versa. IF your server is populated with more PvE players that leaves your BLs empty, and you want to WvW with other players, it’s time to transfer.

JQ is one of the only servers that has a WvW population on all time zones. Consider going there.

I think it’s a L2P issue. Revenants have a specific role in combat, and it’s up to the player to utilize the mechanics for maximum effectiveness.
