My ebay reponse wasn’t to solve your extra character slot dilemma, I used it to solve ur real life situation.

Your extra chr slot is completely free without paying more.

You bought the ultimate because you liked the gems, slot, mini, and other stuff, so you would still have had to pay 100.00 if this slot was given BEFORE the bundles were even announced.

If you bought the ultimate edition just for the chr slot, ask for a refund and get the standard now instead.

If you want to keep the ultimate set at 100.00, then you obviously think the extra goodies are valuable enough to you to pay 100.00

You really should read my OP. The Ultimate edition was perfect. It had everything that I wanted. 1 slot, fluff, and 4k Gems. I got what I paid for.

But now I’m getting 2 slots. I don’t need 2 slots. That extra slot has no value to me. I’m suggesting a way for Anet to exchange that free slot for Gems instead.

Ahhhhh. How fast the tune changes when it’s no longer the best deal in town, for them.

Lol.

So now we have confirmation that we Deluxe and Ultimate pre-order players lost value in our purchase. It’s only fair that Anet offer us options so we’re not left out in the cold.

Let me use a real world example of this. Say you purchased the Collector’s Edition because you really liked that Rytlock statue. Then a week later, Anet says that all players will get a Rytlock statue, and Collector’s Edition players will get 2. What do I do with the extra statue, since I only really needed one.

Ebay? Sell it to a friend?

Unfortunately, I can’t sell or even gift my extra character slot to someone else.

Players should have waited for a decision or a comment from Anet. Now that they haven’t they complain.

So you want us to wait for a company to address nonsensical banter on the interwebz before I make the financial decision to pay for a game that I love? No. Again, there was nothing wrong with the original offer. Anet just sweetened the deal to make everyone else happy. I already said that it was good of them to do this. My point of view is that of us Deluxe and Ultimate pre-orders. The bundles had a great value in the draw of the additional character slot offer. Since the standard now comes with it, that potentially changes the dynamic of the whole decision making process for the Deluxe and even Ultimate players.

I guess so, but the character slots don’t actually lose any value to players who already have the Deluxe or Ultimate editions. It’s icing on the cake!

The Ultimate edition already had icing. The extra character slot in addition to the one that comes with Ultimate is too much icing. And when you have too much icing, the cake is too sweet, and is inedible until you scoop off the extra layer. Then that extra icing becomes a waste.

To add, I think I’d be happy with 1/2 the Gem equivalent of the extra character slot value. It’s more likely I could use the Gems for a Finisher, or some other fluff. I got enough alts to last me for years.

By giving a free slot to all existing players who pre-order, the additional slot in the Deluxe and Ultimate lose value. It’s safe to say that the extra slot in the original offers was the main draw for a majority of the players who already purchased the pre-order in the past week. Now, it’s not about getting 2 extra slots, it’s the fact that some players might have just stuck with getting the base HoT pre-order.

Oh, pleeeeease. Stop it already.

And fyi, people have already on the forums said on different occasion, that it was a bad idea to pre-order Hot now until more info was given or the issues were resolved. Now that they are you complain about what they give….

I’ll repeat myself :

Oh, pleeeeease. Stop it already.

What issues are you talking about. When the pre-orders first came out, there was nothing wrong with it. That’s why I ran to get my wallet, and put in my order as soon as I could.

JT amd TS made good points. Some players made the decision to get the Deluxe due to the extra slot, and not just the fluff. I got the Ultimate because /hype, the extra slot, the 4k Gems, and the fact that I love this game. Now I’m getting 2 slots, which I admit is really nice, but I don’t need it. I already purchase all the additional slots that I need. Future expansions will most likely continue to give extra slots, so I’m fine with waiting until the next one before making a new character.

Bottom line, I thank Anet for making the pre-order better. Today’s changes makes Anet look really good. But I don’t know. Personally, I feel that I just got cheated a little because a lot of vocal complaints were made over something that I saw already had value. That’s why I’m suggesting that we get an option to get Gems instead. I’ll still be spending money on the Gem Store anyway. I’ll end up getting something that I could use, like BL Keys.

You already paid for it, got exactly what you paid for, and then got something extra….you want another bonus 800 gems on top of your 4000? The bonus wouldn’t even have existed and you would have been fine with it before this announcement…

This is about fairness. I’m not complaining about getting free stuff. I’m offering a suggestion because I don’t need the extra free slot that I had already gotten in my Ultimate pre-order.

Anet just announces some changes that will make many players happy. Offering to refund core game purchases from the past 6 months is pretty nice of them. Even offering an additional character slot for existing accounts who pre-ordered is a great boon for veteran players.

However, the issue with the pre-order for Deluxe and Ultimate puts me in a bind. I was one of the first to pick up the Ultimate edition. My laptop screen nearly cracked after I started tossing my wallet at it last week. The one additional slot that was originally offered was perfect. Now we’re getting 2. I don’t need 2 extra character slots.

I’d like to ask that we players who purchased the Deluxe or Ultimate editions to have an option to get the Gem equivalent of the extra character slot.

Here’s a little secret for you, from the the entitled generation, if it was marketed CORRECTLY there wouldn’t be a discussion about it.

Their marketing was just fine. In fact, so many of us tried to buy the game simultaneously, that we broke the in-game shopping server. Customer Support had to have me log into the website, and buy it from there instead.

Smooth Penguin.5294

There’s a lot of “anger” from a small portion of the community over the pricing of HoT. Some of it is from the misconception that Anet should price the game at a price that’s favorable to the individual player. However, this suggestion isn’t about them. It’s for those of us who can see through the false clouds of negativity, and understand that the Ultimate package is the best deal in town.

I think Anet should further reward players who pre-purchased the HoT Ultimate package. Sure we got Beta access, all the bonus goodies, and 4k Gems at a discount. As I said, it was a deal. When the sale hit the website, we didn’t complain or rage at the pricing options. We threw our wallets at the computer screen. We see the value of Anet’s time and energy into making this X-pac and all the improvements to the game we love and hold dear. Colin’s team worked hard, and for that I’m happy to pay. With that said, in addition to the deal we got, I suggest one (or all) the following as an added bonus:

  • 3 day advanced access to HoT
  • HoT Ultimate title
  • 5 Black Lion tickets
  • 25 Black Lion chest keys
  • Mini Llama
  • 25% discount on Gem Store purchases for 24 hours
  • Lunch with Colin in the Anet breakroom

ANet: Best Time To Change Damask Silk Is NOW

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Smooth Penguin.5294

I was drowning in Silk. A decrease in the amount of Silk needed will just increase the amount of Spool of Silk Weaving Threads I get. Which, in turn, will increase the amount of Wool, Cotton, and Linen Bolts that I’ll need to convert them all to Damask. That, in turn, will increase the prices of Wool, Cotton, and Linen since demand will rise. Anet doesn’t like slippery slopes, so I think it’s best to leave Silk alone.

Skill has always, and will always be greater than having more stats.

Except when stats make skill irrelevant. Which has happened in several games.

So please do us all a favor and just remove stat progression. Go back to the old ways of having only exotic as the BiS. Downgrade all “ascended” to exotic tier and let them keep their cute infusion slot.

Problem solved.

The only stat that skill is irrelevant to is Magic Find. Other than that, the 10% difference between Exotic and Ascended is an after thought to a skilled player.

Smooth Penguin.5294

I frequent the forums and Reddit, and I’m noticing a trend with Anet’s plans. People are discussing a doomsday scenario, where players with Ascended gear are now all-powerful beings. I’d like to take a moment, and provide some advice on how to counter the increase in stats to Ascended gear over Exotic gear.

Learning to Play

One thing that separates players is not what tier of gear they have equipped, but rather their ability to understand game mechanics, and playing/counter-playing a character’s abilities in battle. For example, take a Melee Guardian. All the Boons and AR in the world won’t save you if you rush in with a Hack & Slash mentality, ignoring AOE fields and not dodging powerful enemy spikes. Guild Wars 2 combat intentionally punishes players who don’t pay attention to mechanics in a fight.

In PvE, Anet does a good job teaching players how to fight bosses by giving minor fight-mechanic previews before the main event. Players have ample time to trigger dodges when a dragon is stomping, or a king frog is about to tongue lash you. In WvW, unfortunately, players learn the hard way when engaged in combat. Real players are more unpredictable than computer AI, so learning a character’s movements (tells) will give away when a particular attack is coming. Then it’s just a matter of knowing when to dodge. The more skillful you are in combat, the better off you are negating the 10% stat difference if you only have Exotic gear, and your opponent has Ascended.

Stats make you a better player?

It’s true that stats do help you when fighting in PvE and WvW. Doing more or absorbing more damage can give you advantages in combat, but that doesn’t make you a better player. If you’re able to hit another player for 500 more damage per hit than them, but are unable to connect with those hits, stat difference is meaningless. A real world example would be if you took Arnold Schwarzenegger from the 80’s and put him in a boxing match with Manny Pacquiao. It would hurt if Schwarzenegger landed a punch, but Pacquiao is so mobile (skilled), he wouldn’t even take a hit.

Do you need Ascended gear to be relevent?

No one needs Ascended gear, so don’t feel forced to get it in order to compete. Unless you can afford to pay for full Ascended gear, playing in full Exotics is fine. Focus on learning strategies to become a better player, than to be hyper focused on just equipping the BiS gear. I can speak from experience, having hailed from Maguuma in our glory days. Using our knowledge of game mechanics, our 15 man guild teams could easily wipe 30+ man enemy zergs consistently.

Skill has always, and will always be greater than having more stats.

I also tried exiting the game and then deleted all mail just in case it was trying to be sent there.

Notice the little “3” in the top right corner of the item in your picture. That means all 3 of your planks were consolidated into a single stack. This happens when you purchase more than one of the same item from the TP.

Time for Transgender NPCs?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Smooth Penguin.5294

Smooth Penguin.5294

I can see some double standards already. With Taimi, her disabilities were a boon to players with similar real life disabilities. The Anet writers were cheered on and praised for including a hero with shortcomings. Players felt empowered, and followed the Living Story closely as Taimi persevered through her trails.

Now let’s switch things around, and say that Taimi was a Transgender asura. All of a sudden, it’s no longer inspiring to have a main character, a hero no less, have an alternative lifestyle. Taimi would be shunned in this instance.

Moral of the story, fantasy characters allow players to connect to them in various ways. It helps players to have a brief escape from the pains of reality. Be it being disabled, or bullied for being different. This is where you find the difference between a writer who just creates a character, and a writer who creates a story. If you can create someone who players can connect to, the story has more meaning, and gets a life of it’s own.

Time for Transgender NPCs?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Smooth Penguin.5294

Smooth Penguin.5294

With the news that Bruce Jenner is now known as Caitlyn Jenner, and the fact that people are becoming more comfortable with alternative lifestyles, perhaps it’s time for Guild Wars 2 to have a Transgender character in the storyline. We already have homosexual couples (Marjory/Kasmeer and Caithe/Faolain), a close inter-species couple (Braham and Rox), and a bi-racial couple (Logan and Jenna). It’s safe to say that Anet is not one to shy away from the non-traditional relationships that many in the world share.

I have homosexual friends who find GW2 story refreshing and empowering. To openly showcase main characters with such relationships, the Anet writers are carving new opportunities to introduce people to aspects of the LGBT community. And in doing so, helps to make people more comfortable and understanding of our misunderstood friends.

So, my fellow Tyrians. Do you feel it’s time to expand the story to more LGBT type characters? You could even take existing heroes, and have them undergo a transformation! Imagine the possibilities!

[Suggestion] GM powers for Gems!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Smooth Penguin.5294

Smooth Penguin.5294

I just snipped a couple of things out here. So now, the Anet GMs who’s work you are trying to reduce have to patrol the people that bought GM status to make sure they are not abusing their status. So every time a person that bought GM power nukes someone from the game and the person complains the real GMs now have to go research what happened to make sure the person that bought GM power was not abusing their power. They will have to do this instead of or on top of all the in game reports of cheating they are also receiving and have to review. I don’t know, seems like more work for the Anet GMs to me.

Not to mention the staff that handles abuse reports are not the same people developing the content as far as I know.

Yeah JT. I thought about this, and still I stand behind the general idea. Why? Well, regardless of who would issue out bans, the player will still dispute the punishment. We’ve seen RMT accounts post frivolous disputes in the Account section, only to be shot down by GM Chris.

In order for an idea like this to work, there needs to be real consequences. A complete ban of all accounts would be the best thing I could think of, since most players care about their main accounts that they’ve invested so much time into. Maybe Anet could charge Gems on a “per account action” basis. 500 Gems are deducted from the account each time an attempt to kick a player, or perma ban them. That could cut down on a lot of the troll attempts, since it gets really costly to abuse.

In GW2, Trading Post plays you!

[Suggestion] GM powers for Gems!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Smooth Penguin.5294

Smooth Penguin.5294

A lot of players know what it’s like to see botters in an area, and there are no GMs around to smite them. Or when in WvW, a hacker is flying over Keep walls, or attacking while invisible. GM ProHeals is only one man, and can’t be on patrol 24/7. How about RMT spammers that constantly contact us in game? And let’s not forget about all those AFKers in world events getting credit with auto pet attacks. That’s why I’m suggesting a way for Anet to recruit help in the fight against rule breakers, and make money at the same time. Sell us temporary GM powers in the Gem Store for a very high amount, say 4,000 Gems for 1 week. Then we could kick people out of maps, or ban them outright.

Pros

  • Instantly be able to remove rule breakers from the game, making for a cleaner and more friendly environment.
  • Lessens the amount of work real GMs have to do, thus giving them more time to create additional content.
  • Less clutter on the forums when players post about rule breakers.

Cons

  • Abuseable. Troll players might ban legitimate players for fun.

Con Solution: In order to prevent unscrupulous players from abusing GM powers, Anet could set minimum requirements for access.

  • Players must have a minimum of 20,000 Achievement Points. This is to show that they’re dedicated to the game.
  • Players must disclose all the accounts they own, and must make an agreement where any abuse of GM powers means permanent ban to all their accounts.

Additional Revenue
If temporary GM powers could be sold, another way to generate sales is to offer customization ban animations. Sort of like PvP finishers. One ban animation could be Dhuum slicing the player down (ala GW1). Another animation could be a little rabbit hopping along, and then jumping at the player’s throat (ala Monty Python). Anet could easily sell each of these for 1,000 Gems.

Retroactive sale refunds/compensation

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Smooth Penguin.5294

Smooth Penguin.5294

You could say it’s entirely my fault for not waiting for a sale, well I waited months for one to happen and it never did.

This is how it works in the real world. Businesses have promotions to increase sales at various times of the year. It could be to close out a quarter with higher figures. It could be tied to a holiday. It could be tied to a sporting event that the company supports. It could be at the whim of the CEO’s mood.

What you need to do is ask yourself the following: Were you satisfied with the item you purchased at the time you purchased it? If the answer was yes, then there’s no problem.

Some companies might offer a refund of the difference, some might not. It’s like if you bought a laptop from Dell, then the same laptop goes on sale the next day. You’re not entitled to a refund of the difference. Now if you purchased a Gem Store item, and it goes on sale the next day, submit a ticket with Anet Customer Support, I’ve heard claims from others that Anet will refund the difference. That might be on a case by case scenario, so there’s no guarantee that it’ll work. Doesn’t hurt to try though.

Well as we noted earlier, he used money out of the Aetherblades’ pockets, which was money out of innocents’ pockets, to do that.

But why let a little thing like the truth get in the way of good ol-fashioned propaganda?

Evon didn’t steal from anyone innocent. He took loot from the Aetherblades. It was basically a pirate stealing from a pirate. Evon was fully compliant with pirate code of conduct.

Hear hear! When one of the top SPvPers speaks, we must listen. Evon’s time is now!

It doesn’t make sense in current GW2 conditions, I’ve done research on that already.

I’ll try to make it simple for you using GW2 mechanics. I speculate that a Rev S/S + Shiro stance will be like an OP Thief D/D… with swords.

I’m just waiting for Rev S/S with Shiro stance that turns him into a Heavy armor Zerker Thief.

That doesn’t make sense.

You have to have played GW1:Factions in order to get the idea. You can buy it now from Anet and try it out!

Jeremy Irons would have played a great Trahearne.

As far as we can tell, they haven’t abandoned level 500 Jewelry or Cooking. And with the expansion coming out soon, speculations are that something might come out that uses the Xunlai Electrum Ingots. I trust Anet to have a clear plan of action. Otherwise, why would they code in the slots in our Item Storage for useless materials?

A warband which isn’t anywhere to be seen or heard from, which we only have Evon’s word on what happened. If you’re going to deride Kiel as questionable (at best), you should look to your own patron as well.

I understand he has the employ of a particular golemite which is a well-known criminal to the Seraph. One does become led to wonder why . . . especially since said golemite is also a known associate of Scarlet Briar, the individual responsible for the state Lion’s Arch is in.

. . . one does wonder.

Said golemite was enslaved by Scarlet, and wasn’t responsible for the destruction by the Aetherblades. That said, Evon employed Hobo-tron because he’s like his son. He went and used money out of his own pocket to upgrade Hobo-tron into Hero-tron.
