Important TP Reminders (for traders only)

Smooth Penguin.5294

Dear fellow Black Lion Trading players. This is an important reminder for you all that trading on the BLTP can be vicious and cutthroat. The marketplace is competitive, so the weak of heart need to take precautions before joining the frenzy. Please note that undercutting is not only allowed, but encouraged. Competition amongst ourselves is healthy. And while we’re here to offer the service of providing goods to other players, keep in mind that we’re also here to make money.

So when you see someone complaining about high prices or items not being sold, give them a friendly reminder that this is not a charity. There’s an old merchant saying: “The timid Dolyak sells no wares”.

Thank you for your time.

if you dont see the problem you dont want to see the problem, not aggreeing is one thing, but not having the empathy required to understand why someone might not want to reward an undercutter is an act of will. there are more important things to me than money, hopefully to you too…

But there isn’t a problem. People who trade don’t do so out of empathy for their competition. They do so for profit. Money is more important that your feelings.

I’ll try to explain things to you one more time. If you list an item for sale, and it doesn’t sell after you’ve been undercut by someone else, that means your price is too high. Meaning, it’s your fault the item isn’t sold. List the item for cheaper, and it will sell faster.

I can promise you that I will more likely not undercut a price that’s too low.

It’s not a matter of believing your experience or not. This event is not for you. Period. It’s meant for organized groups, not the occasional few players who happen to come across Teq.

In all honestly, I’d like to see Teq get a buff, since he’s gotten quite easy after we learned his mechanics months ago. Our groups actually have to hold back our DPS, because Teq bugs out if we burn too hard.

Ohai! This thread again.

Sorry mate, but Tequatl isn’t meant for Casuals. It’s meant for coordinated groups. If you’re interested in getting a kill, TTS kills him multiple times daily in NA. We’ve got it down to a science. Kills with no Turrets. Kills with only melee attacks. Kills with only pets and minions. Kills with only white weapons. Kills with no armor.

Wrong. Tequatl was completely designed for casuals who know that they need to have some basic communication so that all of the mechanics of the fight are properly handled.

Anet Devs beg to differ. They made this fight for us 1%. But that doesn’t mean Casuals aren’t allowed to have fun. We have pugs who tag along with us on both Teq and the Great Wurm runs.

They made this fight for casuals who wanted something that required a bit more complexity and organization, yes. Just because it requires three separate roles (turrets, turret defenders, main dps zerg) doesn’t mean it’s still not aimed at your casual player who loves themselves a fight that actually puts their PVT gear to practical use.

Here’s Josh’s explanation for Elite events like Tequatl and the Great Wurm.

I’m not surprised that the Wurm is not liked by as many people. We were making that specifically for the hard core groups that are all about the organization and figuring out the strategy and tactics. It’s really cool watching the community grapple with this puzzle and innovate as they get closer and closer to finding a winning strategy.

Right now there are only 2 Elite raid-type events that’s aimed at hardcore groups. Tequatl and the Great Wurm. The Teq fight has gotten easier, as the strategies from community guilds like TTS have spread out to others. We’ve gotten the Wurm fight down to farm mode too, but occasionally fail due to player error.

your “solution” is absurd. so we are all supposed to be psychic and read the market? it should be up to the buyer to decide if they want to buy from the 19 99 99 or the 20 00 00, thats a simple change and doesnt restrict anyone, you can still undercut if you want

and why is there no room for a grey area???

Nope. Computers cannot “read minds”. It cannot tell if someone is sad that they were undercut. In fact, it would be completely unfair if a computer allowed a lower priced item to sell after a higher priced item. Now if this were 2050, and we have computers capable of human thought and learning, perhaps we could have some gray areas in the market. Maybe then we could see a computer having the compassion necessary to facilitate the need to sell an item priced at 20 ahead of an item priced at 19.99.99.

Going back to selling for cheaper. This tactic actually makes plenty sense. If you list something at 20 Gold, and someone undercuts it with 19.99.99, that sucks right? Well if the velocity of that item’s market is high enough, BOTH items will sell. However, if the velocity of the market is stagnant at those prices, BOTH items will NOT sell. That means it’s the Seller’s fault for overpricing the item. If you want the item to sell, you need to price it lower to attract more people willing to buy it. Thus the need to list it for 10 to 15 Gold.

Now say you list it for 10 to 15 Gold, and someone undercuts you. Ok, that’s no big deal, as the velocity of the item’s market is much higher now, and so being undercut won’t hurt. Both items would sell much faster since it’s cheaper. You went from having 0 potential buyers, to maybe a handful now.

tl;dr – In order to do well in any market, you need to know how to read it. Amateur sellers who list items at any odd price without doing research will always lose.

tl;dr2 – The current market is well balanced, and working as intended. No fix needed.

Skipping Stone gysers: Anet slows us

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Smooth Penguin.5294

Smooth Penguin.5294

No.

I don’t want it to be any easier. You will know our pain.

I fail to see how reducing the time between the stones falling and rising again would make it any easier. If you miss a jump, you still have to run back to the start. If you’re on the stones when they fall you still have to run back to the start.

You fall, penalty is having to run back and wait for proper start time.

How does delaying people after they fail contribute to a fun moment to moment gameplay ?
Or make the puzzle more difficult ?

Though at least skipping stones non-threatening enemies with immobilize to stop you on the way back to the start. Enemies which you only interact with after failing (Branded Mine). Or enemies that put you into combat mid-jump, causing you to fail the puzzle or pull you off the tiny platform (Chaos Crystal Cavern). Which feels like a failure because RNG says fail, not a failure because I screwed up. Griffonhook is the only jumping puzzle I’ve seen where the enemies add to the difficulty (if you carry the bomb), instead of just being something to slow you down with an easy fight or provide an RNG based failure.

Or the rock fall in branded mine, where doing anything but waiting for it to pass is a bad idea. But if you finish your jump when the screen shakes and take your hands off the keyboard till it has passed, you’ll be fine. There is no difficulty there. Just RNG says you must wait.

Or the various puzzles with a death drop and a long run back. ANET felt like it was a good idea to provide some res option in some puzzles. But no consistency in which ones have the res. Why does Coddler’s Cove have an NPC res you, while Branded Mine does not ?

What is so good about jumping puzzle mechanics that only exist to slow players down without adding anything to the difficulty of completing the puzzle ?

Ahem. Don’t fall and you have an easier time. Anet isn’t “slowing down” players. It’s the players who keep failing that are slowing themselves down. Think about it. If you didn’t fall, you would have finished the JP so much sooner. That’s all part of the challenge. If you aren’t up for it, there are some easy ones in Lion’s Arch.

But the reality of the situation is that people who insist on zerging are the ones who aren’t “working together”.

The debate at hand is now “natural equilibrium” or “forced equilibrium”.

Natural equilibrium has worked for the last 2 years, so why should it change?

I think people want change to happen faster. This is due to a combination of Entitlement and Impatience.

I’ll concede Impatience, but I think the only Entitlement in this discussion is those defending the status quo based on the fact that they like it (rather than that it works better). I’ve given my reasons for arguing this, and they don’t include personal gain, so I’m not sure where you’re reading in Entitltement … other than a desire to insult your opponents (as opposed to engage in discussion).

I’m a firm believer that it is appropriate to consider proposed improvements based on their merits; 2 years of things working well enough is not an argument that they are better than they could be.

That said, I’m not going to argue this further because I’m unconvinced that it could be done in a way which wouldn’t be more annoying than the inefficiency of 1c underbids … but that’s different from agreeing that the status quo is better. (And anyway — 1c underbids don’t generally hurt me, since none of my trading is based on fast cycles.)

There are those who feel entitled to quick returns. This is mostly true when you have the arguments that 20 and 19.99.99 are the same. The person who has the item listed at 20 feel that they’re entitled to selling before the 19.99.99, even though the other item is cheaper. To some, the perception is that the prices are similar enough to warrant a debate. But ultimately, the item that gets sold first is the one priced lower. The current system sees in Black and White, and works well. There’s no room for a Gray area, unless you develop an AI for the TP.

The solution to this conundrum is for the original seller of the item priced at 20, to have listed it for 10 – 15 instead, if the item has low velocity at the higher rate.

Smooth Penguin.5294

I’m trying to complete the Skipping Stones geysers. I’m not complaining about them being too hard for me, as I’m sure I can eventually get there.

What’s annoying me is that after every time I fail I spend more time running back to the start and waiting for the geysers to start up again than I am trying to get through them and I can reliably get to the last of the geysers visible from the water level.
The wait is the frustrating part. Especially when I get back to the start just in time to see the rocks fall.

I can understand some waiting, since making the rocks stay up all the time would lessen the difficulty. But why do we have to wait so long ?

Let that be an incentive to you to not fall.

I undercut just to undercut sometimes. It’s a way of letting other players know that “I see your item, and I’m part of that market” sorta thing. Remember, while the TP is there as a tool to access the marketplace, it’s also a competitive one. If it costs me Gold to list an item just to send a message, so be it. The same thing happens to me with items I’m selling.

As for minimum price increments, that’s a waste of time. That takes away the freedom to list an item at whatever price you want. Plus, we’d already had this discussion, an no one who advocates for this can provide any valid arguments for it. People push this as a solution to a non-existent problem. It’s like saying “I want to change the color of strawberries, because oak trees are too tall”.

Back to the argument at hand. Perspectives of individuals don’t matter much here. What matter is that one price is lower than the other. Computers don’t have emotions, or the capability to determine if one player is sad that their item was undercut. They see numbers. And if one item is worth 20, and the other is 19.99.99, guess which one is lower? These two prices will never be the same. It’s impossible with all that we know about math.

As long as the prices are different, even by 1 Copper, the cheaper item always sells first. You “think” our prices are the same, but the reality of it is that my price is cheaper. That’s the psychology of marketing at work. Consumers in the real world gravitate towards the lower number.

Why should we create a system that punishes players who sells an item cheaper? Just because the other seller made a mistake by listing a price point that’s too high, doesn’t mean we need to bend over backwards to assist them to correct their mistake.

When you think about it, getting undercut should encourage people to sell their items cheaper to avoid having it buried in the listings. In a roundabout way, 1 Copper undercuts moves items faster to equilibrium. People like me will always undercut your prices, so if you want to sell your item fast, sell it cheap.

Getting back to the cash shop discussion, a lot of complainers don’t understand that everything is optional. I know of people who never spent money beyond the initial box price, and are enjoying the game as much as big Gem buyer like myself. I can afford microtransactions, so I choose to spend on fluff. If Anet does something really great (i.e. Cantha), I spend more. My money goes to NCSoft, which I hope in turn goes back to Anet to develop more content.

3 big economy problems

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Smooth Penguin.5294

Smooth Penguin.5294

I would think this thread is initiated by the ever prevalent issue of jealousy. This jealousy leads to false claims that pass off personal opinions as facts. Now there’s nothing wrong with being jealous. I was so jealous of people who have no problems with Liadri, or with Tribulation Mode SAB. But even if you’re jealous of someone, or something, don’t go around spreading misinformation to bring yourself sympathy. Let’s dispel the OP claims one by one.

1) Rewards in this game are based on RNG. Not getting what you want does not equal to “low rewards”. It just means your expectations are way too high. If you walk into a casino in Vegas with the mindset that you’ll hit the jackpot, you’re almost guaranteed to walk away depressed. I’ve gotten multiple Precursor drops so far, but that’s because I put in a lot of time to play. The only way you beat RNG is to throw more chances at it. Over time, everything balances.

2) Having 7 accounts doesn’t mean you “own the economy”. It means you have 7 accounts. There are no achievements for owning the most accounts in GW2, and it certainly doesn’t help you do well on the TP. The current economy is well balanced, and anyone who says otherwise can’t bring up a valid argument against it.

3) There’s nothing wrong with selling Dungeon Paths. If you’re skilled enough to solo Arah, and are kind enough to share your party slots with others, then you should be praised. I’m more than happy to pay someone to save me an hour or 2 for the tokens at the end. Just like in GW1, where runners would help you get from Ascalon to end game town for a fee. If you have no problem paying someone to save you time, there’s no problem with helping the other person get rich. Feel free to offer the same service as the other guy,and you can get rich too!

If someone lists an item for 20 Gold, and I offer it for 19 Gold 99 Silver 99 Copper, my item goes first because it’s cheaper. FIFO doesn’t apply here, since the prices are different. Now if the market velocity is high enough, the 1 Copper price difference won’t matter, as both should sell within a reasonable time frame.

Take the same scenario, but now the item is in a market with next to no velocity, both our items may not sell. That means the original seller who posted at 20 Gold is at fault. It means he’s asking way too much for an item no one wants. Likewise, it’s also his fault he got undercut and won’t sell his item for a long time.

Bobby, are you by any chance working on the Cantha storyline? If so, can we discuss that?

What I meant to say was Taimi would be soooooo cute when she and Scruffy go to rescue the Emperor. That would make a great story!

My manly Norn is very much wanting to wear some skirts for RPing. He already has a Princess Wand. The least you could do it allow him to fully dress the part!

I reply to writing and VO threads when I can, including critical feedback posts, since that’s my area. Is there something story related that you’re concerned about, or is this comment more about other feedback (balance, gameplay, etc.) that isn’t being addressed? Remember that we read the forums often and reply when we’re able. A respectfully worded post gets a lot more attention than vague complaints.

You aren’t paying for the social aspect, but rather the convenience of instant travel to a unique location filled with vendors.

Personally, I love the peace and quiet up in the air. Please Anet, don’t move the Airship. There’s no reason to.

My fellow players – Welcome to the free market!

If 50,000 players want to pay 700 Gold for a Precursor that’s short on supply, and 3 or 4 are willing to pay ~1300 Gold for the same Precursor, guess who I’m selling it to?

Well obviously it’s Anet’s responsibility to smack you around until you sell it to the lowest bidder, because if not he will feel bad. I’ll give you a copper for it.

Comrade, the Moletariate would be proud of you.

Step 1 – Give players new options for customization
Step 2 – Hear players complain they aren’t getting what they want
Step 3 – Repeat Step 1

I’m sorry you’re not able to get exactly what you want. As for me, I’m scoring big with the amount that I’m paying in monthly subscription fees for GW2!

lol, i am scoring bigger, i don’t pay a monthly fee XD

But I have access to new unique face skins!

and i have enough money to buy an expensive bike, works both ways.

Confirmed – New mounts are bicycles.

To be fair Essence, while Opportunity Costs are a valid economic discussion, you would then need to argue what those costs are in the first place.

Lightning Pull.

If you’re not good at aiming for the jump, you can also try canceling the skill right before you land. That way you can pull up short.

That becomes very problematic for people who don’t live close to the servers. The aspect movement skills are a nightmare experience for people with low latency, rubber banding, not actually being where the screen shows you where you are and all that jazz. It was my biggest complaint last year… and well it’s back again this year.

Cancelling the Lightning Pull skill at the right time with latency issues like a shot in the dark. The Sanctum Sprint complaints from last year covered this issue thoroughly and nothing has changed so I don’t think anything will be accomplished this year.

The thing is, you don’t have to cancel the skill if you aim correctly in the first place. The aiming part takes practice. If you aim in one spot, and you end up overshooting, try again with the target a bit lower.

And if you suffer from lag, hitting the right spot only means you won’t fall off. Just be sure to not move for a second after you land, to let the game catch up to where you’re standing.

Opportunity costs are not restricted to monetary or financial costs: the real cost of output forgone, lost time, pleasure or any other benefit that provides utility should also be considered opportunity costs.

HOWEVER, attributing a value to your time is an entirely different topic.
