For those of you saying it’s easy, do it as a thief. You’ll have your challenge then.

Actually, I was only able to pull it off using my Thief. Dual pistol condi plus a lot of backward dodge roll skills and dodge food. I think I was able to pull up to 5 dodges in emergencies.

Dawn at 1600g now on TP by only 2 sellers! I wonder where the new “balance point” will go this time. Back at around 950g (as was previous days)? Or some hundreds gold higher? We will see that in a few days… as we will see about Dusk too.

PS: In case someone misunderstands, I am talking about dawn this time, not dusk.

Same argument, different item. The balance is where the players stop paying the high prices. Smart traders never make purchases from listings, but rather by placing Buy Orders. If someone is willing to pay 1600 Gold, so be it. I’ll gladly take their money.

I think there should be a rule where if you don’t beat her within 100 tries, you’re blocked from attempting further. That would be incentive to learn the mechanics.

ummm.
thats harsh..and insulting.

Harsh and insulting? So you’re ok with people bypassing Liadri’s mechanics to get a cheap win using the Life Steal trick? That is the very essence of the term “exploit”.

I was never good at her fight. When the Queen’s Jubilee first came out, I failed to kill her. Then, after 60+ tries a few days ago, I finally killed her. I finally learned to play. Took me a while, but I did it with a legit build, playing within her mechanics. I finally learned the timing to dodge the mass AOE. I finally learned the timing to dodge her shadow clone explosions. And I finally got my mini.

my point was to the comment… “I think there should be a rule where if you don’t beat her within 100 tries, you’re blocked from attempting further.” with the assumption that people dont know her mechanics.

Ah, you have my apologies. I had left off the reasons why I wanted that block in, which was related to people resorting to using exploits if they couldn’t learn the fight.

This seems to be a limited use option to me. I already left once for 7 months due to appalling loot and no response about it from ANet.

That’s funny. In 7 months (assuming you’re counting backwards), I got a majority of my wealth. Drop rates were fantastic. 2 Precursors. Thousands of T6. I think this is a case of “you’re doing it wrong”.

The game rewards those who put in the effort to farm. If you want to get stuff, you can’t expect it to just drop in your lap AFKing in LA. Make some friends, join some guilds, and play.

I defeated her on my thief using life stealing venom build (with Vampiric Runes, life steal Sigil). If i had full berserker armor (i had only 3 ascended and 2 rare trinkets), i wouldnt need to get her to phase 2 at all. with my build i got her to 25% then shifted her to phase 2 and bursted her. My weapons were 2 Mystic Pistols (berserker)

Cheap exploit.

Because that exploit was being used en masse, I think Anet will be banning or at least suspending a lot of players.

Balancing by Software

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Smooth Penguin.5294

Smooth Penguin.5294

I don’t know how many of you read the quite long interview with Chris Whiteside, ArenaNet Studio Design Director, which was published recently on relicsoforr. I did and I found a statement there, that is imho worth a thread and a discussion about.

Chris: (…) I don’t know how well known this is, but we didn’t kill Tequatl before Tequatl went live internally. That’s not how we do our reviews or our balance testing. We don’t need to kill it to know how well balanced it is, which is interesting and maybe one day we can do a podcast about that and I can explain how that works. (…)

Source

The word kill easily could be replaced by play as killing is a major part of playing this game. Then it reads: “We don’t need to play it to know how well balanced it is”.
Because the software tells us whether it works or not.

Now this explains pretty much everything, from ridiculous (but “working” ofc) trait requirements that nobody seemed to have noticed before the feature patch went live, to the growing gap between developers and players regarding the sense of equity, the relation between time spent and reward, the effort and its outcome, and so on.

Apparently balancing in case of Guild Wars 2 is not the expression of the will of designers or a well thought about result based on the experiences made by human testers, but the result of a brainless and emotionless software or process, which just tells no or go but cannot simulate human sentiment, perception and gameplay experience.

This leads to the assumption that we will see a lot more things that we don’t agree with in future, because overstated it’s a bot that decides what’s right or wrong, what’s fun or not :-/

Not sure what you’re getting at. Teq is currently well balance for the hardcore groups. Every now and then we’ll lose the fight. The only group of people that don’t agree is the group that Teq wasn’t made for.

Smooth Penguin if you want to make an argument that is fine, but at least have some credible points. Unless you can do that you are just flaming a discussion that has brought up valid points.

Are there any other items that can be traded that have left so little evidence? If you can I’d be happy to delete this post.

OR you can understand that RNG stands for Random Number Generator. I think that’s the most credible point of this entire thread. This is another way of saying “luck” or “chance”. So while you may not like the chance you’re given, we all have to live with it.

The chance of getting this could have been set extremely low. Your argument is along the lines with Precursor forging. Low rates don’t mean it’s broken. It’s like going to Vegas, and complaining that the slot machine isn’t paying you out.

That said, with enough complaints, Anet may very well fix the rate if they feel they made it too low. I’ll reserve judgement until they come out and officially say the drop rates are broken.

Supply and Demand is not the same as Inflation. If I were to buy out all existing Dusks on the market, then post my own for 5k, that would mean absolutely nothing in terms of “inflation”. Now if my lone Dusk sold for 5k, that means the Demand was so stronk in that individual, that he was willing to pay my price.

Here is the inflation I was talking about.

http://i.imgur.com/5Ort2bH.png

I realize you probably have a personal conflict of interest and want these items to keep inflating, but we are not and never were talking about your hypothetical strawman situation.

Your lone Dusk selling for 5k would only indicate high variance. Individual demand means little in the grander scheme of things.

You’re right. We not talking about my hypothetical market situation, but the fact that Entitlement flows through the veins of each and every player. This is because it’s human nature to want the best of things. We Americans are spoiled, because we live in the greatest country on Earth. We get things that other countries’ citizens take for granted, thus our mindset of entitlement.

So when you couple Entitlement with Supply and Demand, you get an ever increasing price threshold on luxury goods. As more of us attain wealth, the more likely we’ll blow it all on one single item. This leads to a brand new term I just invented called “Entitlelation”, or the slow but constant rising of prices due to the affordability of impulse purchases of luxury goods.

So people are crying “wolf” when it’s a tiger. Not that surprising when we’re talking about the “uneducated masses” they’re referred to here as. Precursor prices may not be a problem themselves, but a symptom of the larger issue of inflation. Perhaps stronger gold sinks and not material sinks for starters…

We may choose to disagree on the “entitlement” issue. So long as people aren’t complaining about T6/ecto I’ll continue to think it’s overstated and overused just like “toxic” and “cancer”.

I would feel bad for the guy who invested in over a hundred of the Scarlet’s Kiss. But yeah, speculation is speculation. You win and you lose. But to be fair, if a top exec says something isn’t coming back, and it comes back twice within a few months, something’s screwy.

To add salt to my wounds, I actually had some Buy Orders for more Monocles, thinking that I could catch a wave of cheap gear, and resell them in a month or so for a mid sized mark up. I guess some other investors had quicker patch DL times than I did, as they filled my order before I could log in and cancel them.

Welp, as my hopes that my investments like the Monocle would creep back up in price, they decide to bring it back yet again. Colin himself said that he didn’t want to bring these items back the first time, since that would devalue them and be unfair. As such, he was right, and when they started to drop in the last Scarlet LS, these items ended up being 20% of their original value. Flash forward a few months, and the market started to recover, only to see in the patch notes that they’re coming back again.

Is there nothing sacred anymore? This niche market has bitten me twice in the rear. Time to move onto things like Copper Ore or something.

people speaking on behalf of arena net what is or not is hard to do are plenty, everybody pulls out the scarecrow saying “omg it’s difficult, almost impossible to do”
but having no actual idea what that obscure and occult “coding” is, stop that please.

someone who makes a product and is not capable of modifying it is not a pro at it, i would like not to think this is the case at hand.

It’s already been discussed by Anet that due to complications of various aspects of game, this suggestion won’t be implemented. It’s not a matter of them being a “pro” or not. It’s a matter of them understanding how their game works, and their ability to think beyond “it sounds easy, so it must be”.

LE: they have test servers, its not LIVE

And that worked so well with the Assault Knights scaling and rewards issue that lasted over a week. I was one of the players that actually helped the Devs to pinpoint the problem with the coding.

Dynamic event scaling with fort Doors?

in WvW

Posted by: Smooth Penguin.5294

Smooth Penguin.5294

Really…in a fantasy world where mesmers can port…why do forts even have doors?

Because mesmers need to get inside the fort to port people in… We know some mesmers that don’t need to break doors for that, but that’s another story

You missed my gist.

Think about it…if you were a King and had to build an impregnable fort, and you had access to magic users who could teleport people in and out of your Fort…why not set up a system where you always had a Guard (mesmer) on duty 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to leap down and port your people inside your fort?

What if you don’t own the fort? How will the Mesmer get in?

Player Suggestions: Race/Class Change Item

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Smooth Penguin.5294

you know, it’s actually pretty easy to do, code wise too.

considering you want to change your race you must agree to the following terms

1/ level 80 , personal story finished
2/your personal story is reseted to 0
3/ once you change your race you get no more rewards from the new personal story considering you got it from your last and it makes no sense , reward wise too, you still are lvl 80 and don’t need low level items, key , a few transmute charges you can skip, thus 0 rewards.
4/ just pick another personal story with no rewards, its a 0 or a 1 option in code
5/ cultural armor can have an npc that trades your previous race armor off you and gives you same tire , same class armor

considering people that want race change care much more about the change than rewards, i don’t see why not

Yes, because programming changes in a live MMO is truly an easy task.

Why are you suprised by this, OP? The game has a gem – gold exchange. It’s in Anet’s best interest to not reward people for playing the game.

Anet loves the professional TP traders because those people raise the prices of everything, making it so that the only two avenues to desirable items are playing the broker simulator or whipping out the credit card. Few people have the skill, knowledge or patience to flip items and those who don’t will either pay Anet or remain poor.

Professional TP Traders would mean that they sell gold for real money, i dont think Anet has much love for them.

Since you’re so good with the TP, that means you’re probably the reason why we don’t have mounts. Just saying…

So any tips on how to tell the difference between someone who is struggling but really enjoying the challenge and wants to do it alone, and someone who would really appreciate a hand with a difficult fight before they go down?

I sit back and watch their health meters. It usually only takes a moment or two to determine if the player needs help based on that alone. In the close battles, it’s sort of like a moa race… the contest keeps you riveted to see how it will turn out. If near the end, the player looks like he may be getting the worst of it, that is where I might throw in some healing if I have it. And if I’m too late and he gets downed, I usually try to revive him and let him finish the job.

Actually, the incident that prompted this thread was neither of the situations I described above. I was using a medium level character and doing pretty well. I had an enemy one-on-one and he was on the verge of dying while I was still around half health. Then a high level warrior came running through and finished my opponent off in one swipe and continued off to wherever he was heading without ever breaking stride. I did all the work, and then BAM! It just seemed kind of callous and unthinking.

There are no absolutes here. No black and white that says whether or not it is a good time to step in and render assistance. Sometimes you will butt in where you aren’t wanted. Sometimes you will arrive with much-desired help too late. All I’m asking is to try to be more aware of other players’ situations.

Keep in mind that enemies and monsters in the open world are free for all to attack. Why should I sit around and let someone else kill everything? I’m going to go in and get my tags, as well as any potential loot drops. This is especially true if the target is a Champ. If someone gets mad that helped, so be it.

Why can’t I just Casually enjoy hammering nails?

Hammers are for noobs and nailguns are P2Win. WoW players use rocks, but they need a new one every six months. The truly hardcore only use their heads.

I appreciate your detailed analysis of the current Nail Meta. Now the question is: What if my forehead isn’t hard enough?

Then you’re nailing the wrong wood. Try something softer.

It seems that my approach to this situation has been wrong the entire time.

On a side note – What do I do if I need to nail two pieces of hardwood together, and my forehead isn’t hard enough? I have yet to encounter this scenario, but I figured I’d ask the question preemptively anyway.

Your best option is probably to ask among your guildmates to see if someone with a harder head can help. You can also ask in general chat but in my experience PUFs (Pick-Up Foreheads) are more miss than hit, a lot of people overstate how hard-headed they are, then abandon you when they can’t handle the nails.

I’ve tried this once. Right when they were about to hit the nail, I was kicked from the party I joined, I lost all progress on my pieces of wood.

As for guildies, none of them are experienced enough to properly use their foreheads, let alone a hammer or nailgun.

What happrns when the good guy lists his item 1c below the lowest WTS. Will you just buy from the big bad tp trader because he lists higher price?

I think some people consider anyone who undercuts by 1c to be evil by default. But it doesn’t matter, since nothing in this thread will ever be implemented by Anet or the players.

Hi… Me again.
Yes, sorry for necropost…
But, with what io just learned…

It seems i have been banned for “manipulating GvG matches”.
Eh… HOW?!
I wasn’t playing GvG. Not classified.
Sometimes, to test builds with friends.

Is that manipulating ?
I seriously need to know and understand.

Said to me there was a thorough investigation…
If i was never playing GvG… How thorough can it be ?

This is a Guild Wars 1 issue, not a Guild Wars 2 one. Please don’t necro threads with non-GW2 issues.

TP in GW2: Curse or Blessing?

The Trading Post is a tool. In that respect it makes the game better (it’s like asking if using a nailgun is a blessing over using a big rock to hammer things together).

But.. but…, the nailgun is killing the real fun of hammering nails. And since I’m working so much more efficiently, I have too much time on my hands. The main appeal of hammering nails was the experience of pounding them into wooden boards. The nailgun creates an imbalance in fun when it negatively affects the use of the big rock to hit nails. This becomes a P2W issue, since not everyone can afford the nailgun.

False and illogical for reasons already explained. The main purpose of driving nails, whether with a nailgun, hammer, big rock, or forehead, is to secure two boards together. Whether it’s fun or not is subjective. If you don’t want the two boards together, don’t use nails.

(thats about how ridiculous this thread is going)

But I’m all for the experience of securing two wood boards together the old fashioned way, by using a big rock to pound them in. Because the nailgun makes it so easy to drive a nail through both boards, it takes away from the fun that I’m entitled to when I initially wanted to secure both boards together. It’s not a matter of choice here, because I truly need those two boards to be stuck securely. I can’t use glue, because there’s currently no option for it.

But if glue is release in my area, that would be yet another P2W issue, since other people might not be able to afford the glue and/or the nailgun. It’s not a matter of convenience here, since the time I save securing two boards together directly translates into $$$. Here’s the mathematical formula:

Time – (time saved) = Money + x
*where x = profit

But adding glue to the game would be more of a reason to exploit the TP. Hooves will then become the ultimate currency and completely break the economy. And the nailgun is optional. You can still use your forehead or big rock to drive nails. There are also other ways to secure to boards without nails or glue. One could lash them together for instance. I get that time equals money, but don’t forget that Godwin’s law also applies.

But the problem here is that the nailgun exists, and makes my life easier. As a result of making my life easier, it takes away from the intended purpose of using a big rock to pound the nails. We were lucky, where the nailguns were provided free to us, so it’s not a P2W issue anymore. That brings up another issue: Why should only I benefit from using the nailgun, when the next guy doesn’t know how to properly use it to increase his productivity? What if he’s jealous of my nailgun skills and wants to punish me by imposing a tax on the time I saved by being efficient?

As for using a rope or cord to bind the boards together, that’s just a temporary fix. I need a more long term solution to my board problem, and using anything but a nail will result in a not-so-secure binding.

Possible Compensation?

A couple weeks ago I purchased the digital heroic edition of Guild Wars 2 via PayPal, being recommended to the game by a friend who has been playing for some time now. Since then I have put in hours of gameplay and enjoyed it all thoroughly. The friend and I recommended the game to another friend and when he bought the game he informed us that he bought the game not a week after I did for half off. Had I known there was going to be a sale, I would have waited another few days before purchasing. Do you think it would be possible to provide me with compensation for the sale or at least upgrading me to the digital deluxe edition?

Let me give you a real life analogy to help you out. I bought a carton of Milk last week, and enjoyed it thoroughly. Then this week, the market has a big sale on Milk. Am I entitled to a refund for the Milk that I purchased for full price, and enjoyed it for a week?
