Whose fault is it that they didn’t watch the interviews and get some information on upcoming changes?

In my opinion arenanet should not constantly release information that affects the economy before the patches hit, it will be implemented anyway so why the hell telling people what will change beforehand, it accomplishes nothing as most of the player base doesnt watch livestreams and they dont read forums and fansites they just play the game as it is…but some few % of the playerbase still profit of that information

+1
the only info about a patch should be in the patch notes, which are released 2 seconds after everyone is kicked from the game and forced to download the patch.
also, the patch notes should be on the download screen.

Even simple posts like “New Legendaries coming soon!” will cause the market to tremble. 2 days or 2 seconds before releasing a patch doesn’t matter. As soon as I’m in game, I’m buying out all existing stockpiles of T6 mats, and then flipping them when prices shoot up 30%.

How do you “close the gap” between poor players and rich players, when you’re gifting large monetary rewards to players who probably have a lot of money already? You just create more problems for the OCD players who then feel compelled to get to the 20k AP goal as fast as possible. From a psychological standpoint, you make the game worse when a majority will assume that you can only “be rich” by grinding to 20k AP. This is why the current AP rewards structure is good as it is now. You get exclusive skins and titles, some Gold and Gems, as well as a sense of progression with the leaderboards. All without freebies that can be sold.

I don’t think that the gold introduced (assuming 1000g for 20k anetpoints) to the economy would be enough in volume, compared to the 15% tax on trades, to change the economy in an unexpected/surprising way.

This is why Anet has an Economist who understands how economies works. When you use “Entitlement” as an excuse to give free stuff, it’s always bad for the economy as a whole. In fact, it’s bad design for the game as a whole. AP tiers have small Gold rewards, but more exclusive Account Bound ones as well. That way, when you meet different tiers of achievement, you can’t just sell it off to make money. That’s the proper way to give carrots to players in the AP race.

On a side note, most players who already hit 20k AP don’t need the extra money. So this idea would basically make the rich players richer for no reason at all.

My friend use antivirus and scan his computer regularly, he can discern phishing mail from anet ones, he doesn’t use a simply password and never use the same password on other site/game.
I’m not totally sure is my friend fault here. Some members of another guild I’m in are experiencing similar problems for a few days.
And again it’s a guild of just the two of us. Not nearly infinite transactions to check, just the last operated two day ago by his hacked account.

It’s not your fault but that of your friend’s lack of PC security that you lost items in your Guild Bank. You will not get them back.

Legendaries are very much endgame. Maybe you don’t play that endgame, but it’s still there.

My Legendary hunt began 1 hour before official launch. Researched the mats needed, figured out which one to aim for, etc. Legendaries are not end game. They are the ultimate carrot that can begin a game.

Support Ticket about Support Admins

After many mistakes, bugs fixed and more, I do thank part of the staff doing their job.

But what if you find an Admin that is not doing his job, treats you Impolite and forget about your Petition for more than 1 year (even with proof that you deserve what you request).

What if that Admin that check your tickets or is in charge of this part, do his job badly? Or treat the consumer badly?

I see many tickets for in-game problems, But, ArenaNet as a company, why they don’t have like a supervisor or somebody that can check (objectively and in pro for the company) the good or bad work of their employees? .

I’m having problems with the rudeness, not polite, unsuccessful service with one of the admins in charge of my ticket. So where I should report this? Or the camaraderie of ArenaNet company is more important than the good treatment and respect for the users.

Hope to be in contact with one admin that shows interest in the people that supported them (and specially those who still pay real money in order to contribute).

From your other post, it seems like you deleted your Shattered Dragon Wing skin by accident, and Anet wouldn’t recover it for you. If this is true, then yes, Anet does not undo player mistakes.

Sorry for your loss. Please be more careful in the future.

Four things need to occur here. 1: DR and loot restrictions must go. 2: double RNG must be a thing of the past, no more buying crafting bags only to get the same things drop or having a second drop rate for bags from mobs than the drop rate of the items from the bags. 3: Precursors and ALL runes/sigils must become crafted items. 4: And finally, the rewards for completing maps/puzzles/finding hidden chests/completing major events should all be increased, that way players actually FEEL rewarded. Please no more of this “I completed a major map, got 5 silver!” nonsense.

And we’re right back at “Entitlement”. All the things you suggest are meant to only benefit your instant gratification. By implementing 3 of 4 of these, you actually destroy the game faster.

-What happens when you run out of carrots to gather? You quit playing.
-What happens when you take away the gates, and allow farmers to run rampant with loot drops? You create inflation.
-What happens when you increase loot drops from events that are farmed daily by thousands of players? You create more inflation.

Be prepared for Precursor crafting though. Once that comes out, you’ll get a feel for what a real grind is. I’ve already been speculating as to what components this will require, and have been farming them up in hopes to be one of the first to craft and sell them.

In GW2, anyone can get top level (Exotic) “stat” gear quickly and easily. Best gear (Ascended) takes some effort, but everyone is capable of getting that too. Now the best “looking” stat gear, that falls under “individual preference”.

I could PvE or WvW for an hour a day for a week, and get some good Exotic armors or weapons. Now if I wanted some good looking skins, that’ll probably take longer to get.

I’m happy for you that exotic is good enough for you.

If everyone is content with exotic, no one will be complaining about ascended and precursor price.

I think the horizontal progression is a bit deep in this game. When a few set of ascended gear for different playing style could cost as much as a legendary.

It still comes down to individual preferences. A skilled player can do quite well just full Exotics. But if you truly feel the need to be decked out in the best gear, then you gotta make the choice of whether or not it’s worth the price and effort. IMO, the minor stat boosts do not justify the prices you need to pay for Ascended gear. Didn’t stop me from fully gearing my Thief when it first came out. I paid a high price to be part of the Elite firsts to get it. That’s life for ya.

I have some issues when to enter WWW i have to gift money to you because you bought all the runes as the live interview was released.

Can you tell me which rune you mean? I checked the most pricy ones and all of them spiked harder after the patch (due to demand from the general player base) than during or shortly after the live interview (due to speculators buying up those runes).
So the high price right now cant be attributed to speculators but supply and demand.

you kitten know what he meant the live interview showed exact changes to few runes and sigils and promise of nice changes to others so tp traders that watched the interview made tons of gold because they started ordering early before prices risen and cashed in after the patch when the prices spiked, I made like 500g on that myself (investing in sigils and runes around 800g, some earned me even up to 400% profit some made me lose 15% tax but overall I made a lot).

now how many players watch such interviews? prolly mostly the smart ones looking for tips how to cash in on the changes while average player is in wvw or whatever at the time of the livestream playing the actual game just to later get screwed for profit by the ones who bought most of supply early or had the foresight to start ordering early to sell to casual non tp saavy players who have no choice but to either pay the high price when everything goes up or not get his runes sigils at all while we profit of them.

Whose fault is it that they didn’t watch the interviews and get some information on upcoming changes? I was working when that interview went live, so I missed out on making a boat load of money too. Did I get screwed out of profit? No, because I had to work. That’s life. Now if someone wants to buy the Superior Sigils in the current market, they need to pay the current market price.

Complaining about this is like saying “McDonald’s burgers were only 28 cents in 1970, so I should only have to pay that price in 2014”.

Or a better example would be “Apple stock was only around $10 in 2003, so why should I have to pay almost $600 for a single share now?”

Actually, that’s just proof that your own personal security wasn’t good enough. If your e-mail was hacked, and (assuming) you only used it for your GW2 account, that means you have a keylogger installed. Pretty simple explanation. Please don’t blame your hacks on a non-existent Anet breach.

There is no keylogger installed. They are no longer as common or easy to install as you may think (Unless one is a complete dunce).

You also seemed to have failed to read a certain part of my post: 3 active PC scan programs active on my computer at once. One of them happens to be a program our municipality uses specifically built for keyloggers and other malicious attachments one could come across visiting websites. Obviously these are important to protect a city’s confidential files. It’s also been tested by visiting known websites that install malicious software and other crap, but of course, to no avail, no breach.

Also to be on the safe side, the PC was brought in today to scan to see if something breached their software, and low and behold, nothing did, the PC is clean.

Knowing this, there is no keylogger installed, and thus, the personal information related to my account was obtained from Anet’s side. This much I know is 100% true. Now how the hacker broke into my e-mail, well that is a mystery, and I will probably swap to a different e-mail site because I no longer trust the one I’m using. The end result though, the hacker should not have had my e-mail in the first place.

You assume your PC security is top notch, yet you got hacked. That only means your security isn’t as good as you thought. An Anet breach would mean thousands upon thousands of accounts would be lost, and you’d be seeing a lot more than a few players complain about it on the forums.

Think of it this way. The players who stand to lose the most, as in the ones with tens of thousands of Gold in their Bank, would have already lost everything. Every single one of them that I know are still going strong. No breach. No hack. It’s because we’re careful about what we do, and have excellent PC security.

Side note – Just because you have a good anti-virus doesn’t mean you’re 100% safe when you visit naughty websites. There’s a reason why anti-virus companies update their virus databases so frequently. It’s because new ones come out daily.

Really you compare real life sales to prestige/cosmetic items in a game?
Also there are reasons why you buy it when it comes out. With Anet you never know if you get another chance at buying it, they have very wierd ways of deciding what gets sold again and what not.
Whatever I am done spending money on this game once and for all.
[There are good reasons to have sales in real life: for example getting rid of outdated products or to beat the competition]

Last I checked, NCSoft is a real life businesses that needs to show sales to their stockholders. So comparing things to real life is valid.

Side note – Anet will probably release more minis in the future. I’m not a fortune teller or anything, but my gut feeling is that chances are high that I’m right.

Account hacked, i lost everything

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Smooth Penguin.5294

Smooth Penguin.5294

The “Security Issue” is that lots of people used the same password for everything.
Hackers got that one password that was used for everything from a vulnerable site via heartbleed.
Hackers then simply entered the user name and password and stole the account.

If your account was hacked, it was because YOU didn’t follow the basic rules of using the internet:

#1. LONG passwords + Complexity = Security
#2. NEVER, EVER, for ANY reason should you use the same password twice
#3. Always assume links in emails are BAD, especially if you didn’t request the email.
#4. Every website is infected. Repeat that to yourself. Again. Let it sink in. Every website is infected. What do you do after visiting an infected website? You run a scan. Do it. Do it because every website is infected.

Incorrect, my account was hacked.

- The email I used, is only used for Gw2 (logging in to play or to these forums)
- Email password was also unique: numbers, + lower/upper case, 17 characters long
- My Gw2 password is completely different from my e-mail password
- The only e-mails I receive on that email address are guild wars 2 news updates or e-mail authentication requests
- From the last point, I never log in unless I have to (email authentication)
- I also have 3 active scanners on my PC at all times (probably overkill)

Security was not the problem, I’d reckon that my security measures are far more strict than others.

The e-mail attached to my Gw2 account was compromised, how did the hacker get a hold of my personal info? It’s only used to log into Gw2, soooo that would obviously peg it as a breach in Anet’s security for the hacker to obtain e-mail addresses.

Some e-mail sites are easier to crack than others. Lets say a hacker has access to 500 different e-mails through Anet’s breach; that doesn’t mean the hacker can gain access to all 500 e-mails. Maybe they can gain access to 100. Either way, the problem originated from the failure to guard personal information.

You can partially blame the user for choosing the wrong e-mail site, but the blame ultimately lies on the entity that fails to keep your personal information safe.

Not sure if you were around back towards the end of 2012, but thousands of accounts were compromised (e-mails included); what’s not to say that people’s e-mails were obtained back then but only used in the past couple of weeks to hack their accounts? Again, this would have been a security breach on Anet’s end due to the failure to protect personal information.

I understand that some people can be blamed due to their lack of care (identical passwords and e-mail addresses), but not all can be blamed. There are people out there who take strict security measures to protect themselves. When they can’t control another entity whom has their personal information, well, it’s really hard to blame the victim at that point.

Actually, that’s just proof that your own personal security wasn’t good enough. If your e-mail was hacked, and (assuming) you only used it for your GW2 account, that means you have a keylogger installed. Pretty simple explanation. Please don’t blame your hacks on a non-existent Anet breach.

I agree, the TP is simply horrible and the people who defend it are just too lazy to earn gold the real way.
And Anet is too lazy to think of more imaginative ways to add gold sinks to the game than depending on TP moguls (15% taxes add up). The anti inflationary mechanism is anets main argument in favor of this TP crap.

I could easily flip your comment to say that TP complainers are just jealous that they’re unable to profit like the top 1% of players.

If you have an issue with the Trading Post, please provide a valid argument against it. All of us will be happy to debate your concerns. But so far, the only complaints about the TP are related to jealousy, lack of understanding about the in game economy, or personal preferences.

also @Penguin
I haven’t said I am spending more time on tp instead of other areas of the game, just said I’m not feeling compelled to spend more time in them as rewards are bad
I spend on tp max 30 minutes a day rest 1-2 hours is few fractals to maybe get my bow and tonic and tpvp to get a title.
and ‘really nice new reward system in spvp’ really? with what? same kittenty blues and greenies as everywhere else and once in a while old rehashed dungeon armors all of for which I have few hundred to few thousand tokens in wallet and no reason to spend them…cool

Ah, so you’re not feeling compelled to spend more time in the game because of few rewards? But your opening post and thread title suggest that it’s the TP’s fault that you’re not feeling compelled to spend more time in the game. So what is it? Are you upset that no new content/rewards were released. or that the TP “discourages” you from playing existing content?

again you and dozen others are repeating yourself attacking me over and over saying it is my attitude to blame and not how the tp and economy is designed in this game
yet you provided no counterpoint for the fact that adventuring and saving the whole kitten world is a bad time investment in terms of ingame reward compared to tp playing

You actually countered your own points by admitting that you aren’t playing content in this game because you’re on the TP. I gave you a solution to help solve your own self imposed problems.

As for your complaints that there aren’t enough rewards in game, I beg to differ. SPvP provides a nice new reward track system, in which you can get Exotic weapons boxes, and even a unique backpiece. PvE rewards are all there too. Dungeons grant tokens to exchange for unique weapons and armors. Hardcore events like Teq and the Great Wurm offer a chance to get unique weapons or armors. You have options, but you aren’t taking them.

So it comes down to your own fault for not having anything to do. I even gave you a possible solution to that as well. Turn off the game and take a break. If you log in everyday and complain that there’s nothing to do (even when there is), find other outlets to use your energy on. Spring brings flowers and bird and all sorts of stuff in the real world. Take some time to get fresh air, and enjoy the world away from your computer.

Side notes on chance – This means RNG. You aren’t guaranteed to get an item drop that’s locked behind RNG. This does two things. 1) It keeps the item rare. 2) The reward is more meaningful when you actually get it as an RNG drop.

Yes please. Makes me think of SAO fishing that spawns a World Boss Fish event.

Also… crafting fishing poles with Huntsman. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

I think the difference is people actually complain.

Sure every game have flipping. But people felt like to complain on the GW2 forum and not else where.

I think the problem might be the fact that the forums makes it easy to brag about how much you can make by flipping, thereby enabling Jealousy Mode to activate among the Forum Warriors. In GW1, I would flip things like Dhuum’s Soul Reaper constantly and make a good 20 Ecto a pop. With Mini Dhuum, I was making 30 to 100 Ecto profit per flip when he first dropped. There was no room to brag on the Guru forums, because the only posts I cared about were the bidding threads. If people knew how much Ecto I was making on each flip, I would have destroyed my market.

Maybe if there was no official Black Lion Trading Company forums, there’d be less reasons to be jealous, since no one would have known how rich someone was, or how much money you can make by flipping. But then again, the complaints would probably just move to Reddit.

yeah obviously penguin you don’t need to state same things over and over again (also count previous tons of topics regarding such issues) in form of rhetorical questions we know answers to but my point stays.

Here lies the problem. You already know your point has no purpose, yet you continue to push it. This happens to a lot of people on the forums. You have personal preferences that you try to pass long as “problems” for the entirety of the player base, when the problem is actually your own mindset.

-You don’t like the TP, yet you use it.
-You complain about not doing content, when you’re the one making the choice not to do content.
-You don’t want to take the time to earn rewards in PvE, so you buy them off the TP to get them quicker, only to complain about what you just did.

Solutions to your “problems”

1) Stop using the TP. If you dislike having to stand by the TP instead of playing the game, perhaps you should play the game more?
2) If you have friends in game, play with them. If you have none, go out and make some new friends.
3) If you feel you’ve done all you can with the game, do something else. I’m tired of the same dungeons too, but I find other things to keep me interested in this game. SPvP is fun (when you play with competent players). WvW is fun. And hardcore events like Teq and Great Wurm are fun with 150 of your guildies. But if all else fails, and you still find nothing to do within this game, turn it off and take a break.

tl;dr – There’s nothing wrong with the TP. The problem is with the personal preferences of players who complain about it.

Let’s focus on this for a moment. If Anet Devs initially wanted Legendary crafting to take upwards of a year to do, whose problem is it if you decide to do it within a month?

If you’re unwilling to take the time to craft it normally, and want it right away, that would fall under “impatience”.

When I speak of crafting, I mean plain old 1-400 crafting. When I was a new player, it seemed like a monumental challenge.

Again, I’m not coming here as some ne’er do well, whiner or slacker. I have made more than enough gold for my needs. I have absolutely no interest in legendary weapons. just made a few ascended, bought thousands of gems for armour skins and transmutation with gold, and I am sitting on a few hundred coin with absolutely fugh-all to spend it on. I’m doing okay.

I simply voiced an opinion in support of another poster – we believe too much of this games content seems to revolve around trading. That’s it. No complaints about being unable to get what we want, no problems with you TP players (except perhaps, just the tiniest bit of jealousy ). Cheers.

The TP makes it possible for people like you to get Gem Store items without spending a real dollar on this game. My income from the TP is nowhere near that range yet. But as I posted in a different thread, it’s the players themselves that make the TP a focus, not the game. If you want that instant gratification, and can afford it, the TP allows you to skip past the time it takes to farm. And if you have an item that people desire, you can sell it to them or keep it for yourself.

The game is what you make of it. Play it for fun, or play it to make in game Gold. Anet doesn’t force you to do either, it just gives you the options. As Captain Planet would say: The Power is YOURS!

@wwfam
again and again you missed the point in my topic wwfam I dont question the fun part of it just the fact that fun things arent as rewarding as boring tp maths minigame in gw2 – so I do the stuff other players do for my share of fun but still I’m ahead of some of them in terms of ingame rewards because I exploit their fun for my profit by means of tp and the fact that some arent as good with it as others
get it?

@smoothpenguin
yeah I get all you’re saying and you are right, however I still find this wrong how this game is so focused on tp and gem store and not on dungeons and dragons and the shortest way to get to some material goals in the game are through those means not by actual ingame work or lucky drops back in the gw1 days (and in some other games I play/played) I felt happy when I dropped a rare shiney and it always meant something even tho I was fairly rich from spamadan trading and that little drop was really a miniscule part of it…and here like 90% of exotics are worth 1g and almost everything in terms of loot feels unrewarding also thanks to anet nerfing farms loots champ bags and so on

Just remember that it’s the players themselves who make the TP a focus. If you played the game as it was intended, you’d accumulate wealth the old fashioned way.

The TP just makes it easy to get what you want, and to get rid of what you don’t. If an item dropped with a merch value of 2 Silver, but has a player value of 300 Gold, wouldn’t you be happy to unload it on the TP? On the opposite of that, if you really wanted an item, didn’t want to spend time to farm it, and could afford it from another player, would you buy it?

I wouldn’t call it impatience. I’m sure you are aware that it is quite tedious to gather the required amounts of those things in a reasonable amount of time.

Let’s focus on this for a moment. If Anet Devs initially wanted Legendary crafting to take upwards of a year to do, whose problem is it if you decide to do it within a month?

If you’re unwilling to take the time to craft it normally, and want it right away, that would fall under “impatience”.

@smoothpenguin
that diablo3 was just a quick example I found on the net to supply an argument how capitalism minigames destroy real mmo fun because I found it perfect, especially what d3 devs said about farming AH instead of farming monsters to achieve your ingame goals

and regarding other stuff you said I have a guild and plenty of friends and I do all the stuff you mentioned but I know for sure that I would play more if the game itself was more rewarding than TP and the shortest ways towards some of my goals involved gameplay and I couldnt shortcut them by playing the TP – thats the problem here for me the ingame profits gap between actual gameplay and smart TP playing is too big.

I hear what your argument is, but a couple of things you need to understand.

1) You cannot support your argument by using an example that doesn’t apply. D3’s RMAH failed yes, but not for the reasons you’re thinking of. People focused on that to make real life money. You could buy and sell in game items for money. There was more incentive to play the market there.

2) You make the choice to short cut the process in this game, which also takes away the fun of obtaining these items the old fashioned way. If you’re complaining about not having fun, yet you make the choice not to have fun, where is the real source of your issues?

By all means, play the game the way you want to. But if you make the conscious choice to shortcut your goals, even if the game allows you do so, you give up all rights to complain about not doing content.

Note – this all can change depending on what your in game goals are, of course. If you don’t care about content and fun, and only care about shinies, then stand by the TP for 2 hours and trade. Most players have the same mindset where all they want is stuff here and now. Don’t forget that with the TP, the shinies that you seek came from doing the content you skipped.

Do tell what items that you “need” to have. You don’t have to give a list. Just name one single item.

Vials of blood, bones and other assorted monster parts that are used in most types of crafting.

And in response to this: Kill enemies and get them as loot drops.

You don’t have to buy them from the TP. You want to because it fast tracks your crafting. So basically, you’re making me money because of impatience. Even more so now, since T5 prices have nearly doubled recently. There’s no speculation required as well, since I already know people will buy my stuff.

Seriously. Listen to yourselves. ‘Market forces’ should not be relevant to a discussion of video game activities.

It’s only relevant to the people who actually care about using the TP. For those who just want to play this game for fun, thinking about ROIs, Supply and Demand, and other good stuff isn’t required. Let us worry about these issues.

I’ll counter your whole argument based on a single flaw I see: You choose not to play the game for fun.

There’s PvE, SPvP, and WvW within this game. If you feel that you’ve done everything PvE has to offer, try a different way to play. If player vs player isn’t your thing, then you can move on to a different game until new content is released. This game will be here when you come back.

As for the social aspect of this game, it’s not Anet’s job to give you friends. You should go out and meet new people yourself. If you have an active guild, or participate with community based groups, redoing the same content can be fun. Doing jumping puzzles with 100 other people on Team Speak, or killing Tequatl with only ranged weapons, or seeing who can survive the longest without armor.

As for comparing GW2 to Diablo III’s market. I’m stopping you right there. D3 RMAH was a complete failure. The whole reason why people focused on that was because you could actually make real money. Why play the game for fun, when you can earn tax free dollars via virtual goods? With GW2’s system, you can buy Gems with real money, but the exchange rates to Gold weren’t so good that you could reliably buy Legendaries at the drop of a creditcard. Gems are mostly used to get Gem Store stuff. Very few people would actually buy Gems for the sole purpose of converting.
