1 – It’s a Nodachi, not Katana
2 – It’ll be a reward for getting the 8 orb achievement with Liadri
:D
Scholar and Pirate/Ogre are the most popular replacements, Hoelbrak too.
Doesn’t matter, the rune is still godlike and I’m keeping it on my ele. The nerf to the 4th bonus was nothing, I can stack so much might anyway. The 6th bonus 2% damage nerf is whatever, brings it in line with Rage runes, so I’m fine with that.
People are panicking because they saw nerf and thought it was useless now. Which is kind of good, because now they’re affordable. In fact, I’m willing to say our good friend John Smith was in charge of balancing these runes, just to bring them down in price without over nerfing them. :P
John is in charge of the economy, not balancing powers of runes. The drop in price is a result of the balance fix.

Allow me to explain why the Trading Post is working as intended. In America, and most other leading countries, free markets provide the greatest opportunity to make money. Note the word “opportunity”. You are NOT guaranteed to make money, no matter how much you try to spin it. For me, I lost a lot of money on the TP. That’s not because I can’t add 15% to my costs. It’s because the value of the items that I purchased dropped. All the math in the world can’t save you from declining values.
TP Traders are healthy for the economy, as they provide a valuable service to both buyers and sellers of goods. They provide Gold to people who want to sell their items, and then they provide the items to other players who are willing to pay for them. The difference here between the buy and sell price is called Profit. You take the cost of the goods, and then the positive difference in what it’s resold for is the Trader’s reward for providing that service.
The problem, as others have pointed out, is not Traders. The problem is that you’re not happy that other people can make money. This is called Jealousy. This emotion isn’t inherently a bad thing. But until you can provide a solid argument against players who make money on the TP, it’s best that you be honest with yourself.
I’ve given an example, a theoretical one but I’ll repeat myself:
Every income in this game, exept traiding post flipping, is based on a set amount of gold. Every income is furthermore gated by time.
So for every income except traiding post flipping, this formula would apply:
Set amount of gold * time spent.
For the traiding post flippinf however, this formula applies:
Variable amount of gold * time spent.
So the problem is that, based on the starting gold you use, you can make insane an amount gold just by flipping.
The main fact that escapes you at the moment is that people who play the TP aren’t guaranteed to make money. I’m a clear example of someone who lost his shirt with bad investments in the past. I’ve been forthcoming about my losses, and have no shame in telling people that I suck at the TP. So let me correct your assumptions:
“Every income in this game, except for TP, is guaranteed that you can’t lose money.”
So your problem here is not that people can make Gold using the TP, but rather that you can’t make as much Gold as the best traders.
At least you have an option now if you’ve missed logging into the game. Previously, if you missed it, it’s gone forever. So if you decide to have a life outside of the game, then that’s the choice you made if you couldn’t do the story. Pay a few Gems, and all of a sudden, it’s like you never left Tyria!
I’m glad I sold what I had before this.
Mighty Laggin’ Guild Wars Rangers!!!
Can’t you do Keg Brawl 24/7 when you talk to the dude in the norn frozen lake area?
Nodachis are two-handed. Katanas can be one or two-handed. The mere fact that Thieves can’t use this weapon breaks my heart.
It seems the consensus is that Ellen Kiel was responsible for this act of terror, or at the bare minimum, involved. So the question now is, “why would she go so far to betray good people?”
All I know is that if Evon was elected, not only would LA probably not have been destroyed, but he would have probably negotiated a way for us to hitch a ride on the airship to Cantha.
During war people is willingly to pay absurd prices for food and medicines.
People gathering stuff to resell are consideered criminals.
This is a game and even if stuff is not needed as food would be, its basically the same thing.
Since the purpose of the game is FUN, people is forced to trade mostof their rewards in order to be able to have fun.
This is where your economy is totally wrong.
Wow…
John, please grant me immunity from Infractions so I can reply to that post.
Pretty much anyone can go and do these events. Like anet said, they expect players to self-organize but that’s pretty much it. Those events are not hard and organized groups make them almost faceroll. I’m part of the group that kills teq and wurm on daily basis and the only requirement to join is to have consumables which wouldn’t even be needed if the requirements were more strict, like using proper dps builds instead of relying on broken consumables. Hardly “hardcore” unless you mean by that the effort of organising, not the difficulty itself.
Anet can design more of those events but only if they finally support it properly with game mechanics and optimise them. Until then, they should move their resources to instanced content which I’m pretty sure is more popular.
Anyone can participate in the events, but not everyone will be successful. Being able to organize is only one part of the puzzle. If players aren’t willing to follow instructions or cooperate, these events can lead to failure.
As for you not thinking these events are hard, consider that we only make it look easy because we know what to do. It took time for us to develop a strategy in order to get where we are now. This is largely thanks to the GW2 community. Deso, BG, TxS, TTS, all collaborated with tips and ideas when this first came out.
I’d like to point out that I’ve never been a fan of instanced content that prevents random pugs from participating. TTS is welcoming of all players. However, the Megaserver idea, while helping a majority of the population fill maps, really put a dent in community based groups with players across all servers. This is the only reason why I’m willing to pay Gems for personal server shards. Or, as some have suggested, do the GW1 drop down server list where we could select which shard to go into.
i feel u are willfullly misunderstanding me at this point to derail the conversation, i never asked to see who was selling, only pick which one i want to buy based on the prices listed
Here’s your quote of where you said you wanted to pick which seller to buy from.
i just want to be able to pick from which seller i buy from, even if i pick the one that is more expensive that should be my choice
How making it scaleable to lesser amount of players would make it easy mode? The less people participate in an event, the more responsibility one has. Changing the amount of kegs/harpoons to be scaleable shouldn’t be an issue as well. Heck, with less people those events would be actually harder because you’d still need (or rather prefer to have) people blocking eggs and husks.
What is harder, world event in 5 people or in 50? Let’s also not forget that the vast majority of enemy attacks have a cap of 5 targets and it’s much easier to res fellow players with bigger zergs.
If you lower the bar that much, that means pretty much anyone could go out and do these events. That’s not what Anet had in mind when they did Teq, and then the Great Wurm. They wanted an event that:
1) Catered to the 1% Hard core seeking crowds
2) Requires mass coordination and organization
3) Requires understanding of multiple mechanics in order to succeed
Plus, we all know what happens when you have wonky scaling issues. Bugs and glitches could have a World Boss scaled down for 5 people, with 150 people DPSing him. I would say allow scaling within a 80 to 90% range, and you’re able to prevent a boss from becoming too weak. So if a map can hold a max of 150 players, the lowest scaling would be 120 players. I take back my willingness to lower it to 100 or so players. That’s a bit too low, after thinking about it. And if you and your friends can’t pull those numbers, feel free to join in on one of our maps. Our only request is that you listen to the Commanders.
Cmon guys. 0:52 of the trailer.
1) Ship blows up.
2) Camera pans over to a hidden ambush site on a cliff, where Braham & friends are looming threateningly and brandishing their weapons
3) Shots of LS1 heroes plunging into the storm to finish off any survivorsIt’s pretty obvious who the villains are this season.
Whoa now. Are you suggesting that we kill Taimi off next, as her young curious mind might want to recreate what Scarlet did?
The OP’s “Autoclicker” is just another fancy word for “macro”. Do note that when you post on the forums about using prohibited stuff, Anet’s security team is probably gonna look at your account to see if you’re doing what you’re asking about.
The airship wasn’t “shot down”. Explosives were planted on board among the cargo that was loaded. The video clearly shows that this was an inside job. No one bothered to check, because Kiel had signed off on the ship’s manifest. Taimi’s sensors detected something strange, but ultimately didn’t raise any alarms. It was the Zephyrite’s cargo, so one would think a guest wouldn’t have permission to dig through boxes. This probably means Kiel had help in disguising the explosive’s signatures.
It’s not a theory, but facts based on unbiased research!
Legendary Armor datamined! That explains the sharp increase in Gossamer prices. Good thing I bought dozens of stacks when they were 1 Silver a piece.
Do you have a link to the datamined stuff by any chance? And how long do you think this price spike will last, will it go back down later or will it keep rising?
Someone was linking the armors in game. I never got the codes from them.
I thought this thread was “For Taimi”. My mistake.
Legendary Armor datamined! That explains the sharp increase in Gossamer prices. Good thing I bought dozens of stacks when they were 1 Silver a piece.
So, Anet should put aside all their resources to make content for the 1-2% of people that play in giant, hyper organized groups, and ignore the 98-99% of players that don’t? It sounds like this is what you are suggesting.
More like Anet already caters to the average player. 99% of all content is normal mode. It’s only fair that we 1%ers get some love too. So yes, they should devote some resources so that all players in GW2 have content for them.
I’m thinking that the Zephyrites are now regretting their involvement with Ellen Kiel. Think about it, who was responsible for Lion’s Arch being destroyed? Kiel. Now who was responsible for organizing the trade agreement, only to have the cargo filled with explosives? Kiel. Who benefits from the money raised by the Zephyrites to rebuild LA? Kiel.
It all makes sense now. Ellen Kiel conspired to have Lion’s Arch destroyed, because she knew the good hearted nature of the Zephyrites would provide assistance in a time of need. Now that all the money was transferred to the Captain’s Council, she had no further need for them, so she blew up the airship, ala the Consortium ship in Southsun Cove’s LS.
What we need now is a true leader to save the day. We need Evon Gnashblade more than ever to help rescue the only means we have of traveling to Cantha.
#TeamGnashblade, we must gather to fight this new enemy! Our time is NOW!
Some people seem to be misunderstanding who these Elite events are made for. This isn’t for the average player, but rather the highly organized groups that thrive on challenges. That’s not to say that we don’t allow pugs to join. In fact, a large portion of each raid is comprised of pugs. TTS is welcoming to anyone who wants to participate in these events. Sure the Megaserver mechanic makes this much harder, but we’ve managed to work with it as best we can.
As for talks about downscaling, I agree that there should be a slight update to this. I think having scaling to a minimum of 100 to 110 players on a 150 max player map is reasonable. Reducing it to 50 doesn’t make sense, since two of the three Wurms require 20 kegs/harpoons each to reach burn phases. Also, you don’t want scaling that low, because then you create Easy Mode.
Speaking on the issue of timers, players forget that the Marionette had timers. That event was good, no doubt about it. But remember that timers are necessary for all events. Without them, you could technically spend hours trying to win one event. That’s not fair to the players doing the event, and other players who want to do the event for themselves.
I expect the group of heroes will be willing to sacrifice Taimi in order to resurrect Scarlet, as she holds the knowledge and keys to the new dragon’s weaknesses.
Because while Taimi is cute and all, Scarlet is best pony!
I suspect the OP is right. I know from extensive testing that some “containers” are affected by MF, however crazy people will call me for it. All I care about is results. And yes, I did also test the gauntlet chances with and without MF boosts but consider my sample size for testing (comparable to the OP, except twice the amount as it was with and without MF) thus far way too small to draw any conclusions.
In my own, personal research, I’ve discovered that by wearing certain boxers while playing on my laptop, Zomorros is more likely to give me Precursors. Days that I eat an orange and a banana for breakfast will yield less Rare drops than when I eat two packs of oatmeal. On a similar note, standing on one leg while opening Heavy Loot Bags tend to give me better mats.
Here’s a little gem that John gave earlier. Some people just throw around words like “inflation”, without knowing or understanding the proper meaning. Because the word has some negative connotations associated with it, people use it to try and prove points based on fallacies.
I think the problem here is two separate arguments are being made that shouldn’t be made at the same time.
1. Inflation is increasing prices drastically and causing a series of negative outcomes.
A. This simply isn’t true. Inflation is very, very well controlled in gw2.2. T6 prices are too high, the material drops are too rare.
A. There are arguments that can be made here on both sides that I think are valid. (I know this is really frustrating so I apologize for the generic response) I can’t give my opinion on either side for fear of shocking those markets which won’t be positive either way. What I can say is that it’s something we watch, there’s always room for improvement, and we will continue to work to make the game better.
Dear Anet. Please don’t forget about us who love the Hardcore stuff. Be sure to give us a new event that requires mass coordination. Tequatl and the Great Wurm were great, and we still kill them both daily, but our thirst for a challenge can’t be quelled! Both these Elite events are pretty much on farm-mode at the moment. Not to say they’re easy, but we’re just too used to them and make them look easy.
This leads to the thought of a new map (or maps) for the next LS – The Gates of Maguuma. With new maps comes a new World Boss challenge! But in addition to getting a new boss, I think it would be nice to have some new mechanics thrown in to spice up the fights. Not only am I suggesting more Elite type raids, but I’d like to see some random mechanics that changes the strategy of each event.
Right now, all of us know exactly what to do with Teq and the Great Wurm. Each of us is comfortable with our rolls, and have specific builds to help win. Eles give us weapons. Guards reflect. Necros and Engies condi stack. Warrs and Thieves on mob patrol. Mesmers Timewarp for fast DPS. Rangers…. have pets. But if some type of mechanic is thrown in at random (like Fractals or Gambits), that could force players to learn to adapt. It would bring back some “Eliteness” to the raids. In other words, I’m asking for a Hard Mode for the Hardcore! A Tribulation Mode for the Tribulated (if that’s a real word)! That kind of stuff that can make grown men cry.
So please, bring us more raids, and make them hard.
Thanks!
~Penguin
PS – If John decides to sell private server shards for Gems, I’m willing to buy a lifetime supply.
I don’t get the problem. For higher value items, they sell slow, always. Often in days. But if you price it right, it will eventually sell. What would be sold in days will still be sold in days even if someone undercut you.
For low value items, they moves fast, people undercut frequently. But a copper in such case could worth 10% profit. If people choose to earn less, it’s their choice.
If there are many people undercut the item, pushing you back and back and never able to sell, that indicates a large supply. Price drop is inevitable in this case. And your sale order simply became overpriced.
lets get back on track from people’s market advice to the actual issue at hand, i dont care how prices move faster or slower i just want to be able to pick from which seller i buy from, even if i pick the one that is more expensive that should be my choice
If you want to get back on track, that means this thread is officially dead. Anet will never make it so that you can see who is selling what item. If you have a preference on who you want to buy items from, feel free to add them to your Friend’s List, and do trades via mail if you trust them enough.
Scarlet is best pony. Anet should create a quest that allows us to resurrect her for LS2.
This is a good example of how one person can completely misunderstand what a Dev quoted.
I’ve never seen John Smith post anything insightful. Or answer player questions with reasons as to why something is done or not done.
Each post comes across as:
“This is my baby, and being its mother I believe it has no flaws.”And then the sycophants come in and cheer him on.
It’s because the current system has no flaws, but rather players who feel Entitled to rewards that are difficult to get.
If you want to blame anyone, blame Colin, because he doesn’t even know what Cantha is.
This is not a race.
There is extremely little talent involved.
The rewards are not awarded according to which position you finish in.
The skills are intentionally glitched.
Actions that normally work every time, only work most of the time here.
Each time a skill fails, (and at least one will every trip) you usually start over.
The 3 elemental spirits generally only block normally good moves of the leaders.This is not a race by any definition.
Maybe, “The Generally Intentionally Glitched Dolyak Experience” would work for a name.
Perhaps then more people will try it.
I’ve come in first place many times. This race takes skill.
Yes it’s true that increasing supply of something can lead to an increase in prices. But that isn’t always the case. Take the Chaos of Lyssa. They increased the drop rate ten fold, and the prices fell faster than a cubic zirconia on Paris Hilton’s finger.
But increasing the supply of currency has a completely different effect. In situations where the economy is falling, increasing income counters the effects of the farm nerfs. Players are more likely to be able to afford luxury items, and thus sellers are able to increase profit margins as well. When the sellers profit, they’re able to afford more items to flip on the market, and the circle of life continues. This makes for a healthy economy.
That’s a real button. Unfortunately, due to a labeling error, it’s now indistinguishable from my button that destroys the world. So right now it’s a very serous game of chicken with 50/50 odds of total planetary annihilation.
Being President of the John Smith is Awesome club, I’ve analyzed your witty humor these past 18 months, and have deduced that you’re British, ala Monty Python. That, and “Smith” is a very British name.
Ohai! This thread again!
Short and sweet answer: No
As a novice trader, I’ve noticed a disturbing trend. Over the past week, we’ve seen the crashing of the Dusk market. Right now, the sell price of Dusk is hovering at around 1,000 Gold. Not too long ago, Dusk’s sell price was near 2,000 Gold. How does a luxury item lose 50% of it’s value so fast? The answer here is DEFLATION!
That’s right. I think the current state of the GW2 economy is in a downward spiral. The evidence of Dusk losing that much value in such a short time span is too much to dismiss. The demand for this item has collapsed. But there’s hope! Having graduated with a business degree, I have access to some powerful economics textbooks from my college days. Using this wealth of knowledge, I’ve researched multiple scenarios, and discovered that the aggregate level of demand can be offset by a stimulus. Anet’s reduction of farms has led to a reduction in the velocity of Gold, so the answer to our problems is a short term buff in Gold output.
I’ve attached a graph that shows what would happen if Anet followed my suggestion.
(edited by Smooth Penguin.5294)
We cannot play other content, when the content is already done (read Orr temples) or gives you only a couple of dragonite orr.
Before the Megaservers, I would dedicate a couple of hours a day and would have completed most world bosses and temples and ending up with almost a stack of dragonite ore.
Now, if I want the ore, I must dedicate all my playtime to gathering it, thus I don’t have time to play the parts of the game that I actually like.
I don’t do temples for my Dragonite. For World Boss runs, Claw of Jormag, Teq, Shatterer, and Golem Mark II is up to 100 Dragonites for just four bosses. If I run the rest, plus to WvW, and I can easily get a stack of Dragonite per day.
I don’t have time to find good Dungeon speed clears, so I don’t do them, thus I have less Empyreals.
Which is why I stated several posts up that the solution for all of our problems is simple. We just need to play other content, and we’ll have enough mats. I choose to do what content I like, and I end up getting tons of Dragonites.
If Anet allows way too profitable farms to exist, the value of the currency will drop. Take a look at D3, and how poor their economy was. Money was too abundant, and in turn, made it near worthless on the market. So while I can’t make as much money anymore, I can forgive them for stealing my farms.
Do you remember the D2 “Eye of Jordan” ring based economy. lawl
I do remember. It was Stones of Jordan (SoJs), and I made hundreds, if not thousands of dollars selling those on Ebay.
GW2 economy will never break like that, because Anet employs actual people who understand how economies work.
As a real life example, don’t expect to fully understand a TV show storyline, if you only watch once every few months. Try doing that with Game of Thrones, and tell me how that works for you.
“If you want Dragonite, go farm World Bosses.”
Most of the world bosses give 3-5 dragonite ore and farming the ore that way is extremely unefficient.
Every time I show up in Orr, all the temples are done and this used to be the only safe way to get the ore.
Am I supposed to spend hours in Edge of the Mists, flipping the Red Keep in order to get ore?
Arena net should either increase the dragonite drop rate, or put the temples on a timetable together with the world bosses. Not to mention that the Megadestroyer doesn’t even drop ore.
It is extremely frustrating to be sitting on all the mats needed to craft an ascended weapon or armor piece, and not being able to do so because of the kittenty dragonite ore.
I hate the megaservers and how they messed up the Temple Events
You know what’s frustrating? Sitting on so much Dragonite, that I need to constantly have to go to my crafting station to turn them into Ingots. They need to nerf Dragonite and increase Empyreals, because I’d rather do my content that happens to only give Dragonites.
Note – I haven’t done a temple is weeks, so my Dragonites don’t come from there.
If Anet allows way too profitable farms to exist, the value of the currency will drop. Take a look at D3, and how poor their economy was. Money was too abundant, and in turn, made it near worthless on the market. So while I can’t make as much money anymore, I can forgive them for stealing my farms.
Letting players exchange Ascended mats is a bad idea. Anet set it up so that certain content provided certain drops. Players who want to make their Ascended gear, need to go out and seek all the various content that provides the mats they need. By having an exchange, you create an Easy Mode button. It let’s you bypass the intended mechanics, and cheapens the process.
If you want Dragonite, go farm World Bosses.
If you want Empyreals, go farm Dungeons.
If you want Bloodstone, go farm Champ bags.
~~~snip ~~~
To be fair, it’s not John’s job to teach players how virtual MMO economies work. Just like it’s not any Anet Dev’s job to teach players how to be good at WvW or SPvP. These skills are self taught, through trail and error, or studying guides and videos.
Astral. Anet’s security measures are good as they currently are. You want Anet to increase security due to the lack of security from the players. Ok fine. But at what point will that be enough? Add 2 additional steps Add 3? Add 4? Put in DNA testing?
This is how I feel about this situation. I think it’s pretty ridiculous to expect Anet to constantly have to add security barriers, when the key cause of the problem isn’t on their end. I’ll use a real life example: US border security (note – I realize the example I’m using has different purposes, but the overall idea is the same)
People are crossing the border illegally, so the US puts up a fence and has check points to legally cross at. People climb the fence because they can’t pass the check point legally, so the US puts up a bigger fence. People still climb the new fence, so now they put up a wall, with an angled top that makes it hard to climb. People give up going over the fence, and now goes under. The US now employs underground radar equipment to find the tunnels. Etc. Etc. Etc.
You basically want Anet to do the same. Increase security measures because someone found a way around the first barrier. So they set up more barriers. But say the hackers can get by those too. So now we ask them to set up even more? And to be clear, these barriers are not weak ones. Once a hacker is able to determine passwords or answer security questions, the strongest barriers can be walked through. Like having the best lock in the world that can’t be broken, but the thief has the key.
I’ll say this again, I agree that it’s not Anet’s job to give “wake up calls” to players. But it’s fairly logical to assume that if a player has their e-mail compromised, losing your video game account is the least of their worries. THAT’S why I say it’s a blessing in disguise. If they lose their GW2 account, that can be rolled back. Your identity on the other hand, is a lot harder to fix.
Yes it’s true that Anet isn’t in the business to protect players from themselves. But my examples aren’t meant as a way for “Anet to inform players”. Far from it. I’m saying that “the event” of a GW2 compromise helps players to understand that their e-mails aren’t secure. Two different things here.
Most companies rely on their customers having a secure e-mail. Places were it’s extremely importance to have tight security (i.e. banks), you’ll see multiple steps in accessing online accounts. Anet’s security, currently, is pretty good. They have their own security questions that must be answered before players can get assistance. GM Chris will even take time to comment on things in game and in the forums. So at no point should you assume that Anet doesn’t take security seriously.
So you are advocating using your GW2 account as a method to teach account security for you email and that’s reasonable, but my advocating a small policy change that would likely prevent a VAST number account hacks in this game is not.
As long as I know where we all stand….my suggestion remains unchanged, however.
That’s fine, as long as you can see why I’m against this. The huge problem that exists here is that a player’s e-mail is compromised. That’s not something you, me, or Anet can fix. And as I said above, a player might not even know a hacker has access to the e-mail account in the first place.
Depending on how additional security questions are implemented, there’s no way a player would know that someone is trying to get into their GW2 account. If a hacker has access to the e-mail already, the following could occur:
1) Anet sends security link to e-mail, which leads to an additional security question to be answered. The hacker follows the link, but can’t answer the question. An automated e-mail is sent to say that access is denied. Since the hacker is already in the e-mail, they simply need to delete the message.
2) Before a pw change is sent to the e-mail account, a security question needs to be answered. If the hacker can’t answer, an automated e-mail is sent, as in example #1. And again, if the hacker is already in the e-mail account, they just delete the message from Anet.
In both examples, the GW2 account is safe. But the player never knows that the e-mail address is compromised. This can go on until the hacker correctly guesses the security question, or the player sees the IP logs on their e-mail. I can tell you that most people don’t even bother to look at the IP logs, or if they even have access to that feature.
They could do more to reduce the chances. Security question for example. And that doesn’t even have to be mandatory. So that those who do not want it don’t have to have it. But for those of us who do, it’s there.
And I’d want it and I don’t go to shaddy sites, my email is secure, I don’t buy gold from gold sellers, etc. Because even with all of those protections, including a mobile authenticator for the game, I could still one day be hacked.
That’s all Brother Grimm is asking for.
You need to actually read my post if you’re going to quote it. Players are sometimes unaware of what they’re doing. Being hacked is a wakeup call. It forces them to be more mindful of their online activities.
Now to be clear, I’m not “for” people getting hacked. Just putting that out there, since others can easily be confused. If everyone took care of their PC security, no one would be hacked in the first place. But there are players who don’t realize what they’re doing, so if a hacker gets through the current system in place, it’s a sign that worst things could happen. Someone might not have been aware that their e-mail was compromised. Having these additional security measures might protect their GW2 accounts, but that doesn’t fix the problem that the hacker still has access to the player’s e-mail.
