Evon demands clarification!
If you don’t like farming, please feel free to buy all my mats off of the TP. I’ll be ready to unload them tomorrow.
And where i am supposed to get so much gold?……….Ah wait farm?
You can accumulate wealth through normal game play. Farming is a choice, not a requirement.
I had around 10 gold through “normal game play”. Then I started doing Sorrow’s Embrace Path 1 and Path 3, every day and now I have 80 gold. Please share with me your definition of “normal game play”.
That is the problem. Someone is doing dungeons 2-3 hours per day and claim it ,,Normal gameplay" But there is no true definition of normal game play.
1 dungeon daily for less than 30 minutes for 300 days = 300 Gold. So what’s the issue here?
And for 300g you have finelly leveled all crafting in 300 days and can finally start making weapons and armor……Yeaaa great!
FYI – I logged in to level my Leatherworker from lv 400 to lv 500. I spent no more than 6 Gold total today. If you know what you’re doing, it doesn’t cost much cash out of pocket. Here are some steps to help you:
1) Set a goal for yourself. Example: Max Crafting discipline
2) Learn the game. Find what content will help you to achieve your goals.
3) Play the content and get drops. Example: Need the T6 mats for crafting? Don’t sell.
4) Goal reached.
Ah yes entitlement, the fallback position to demonise those who don’t want to grind.
But here’s the catch. You don’t have to grind.
Ah yes, another fallback position, used when there’s no real arguments addressing the problem. Yes, i don’t have to. It doesn’t change the fact that it is alt unfriendly. Extremely alt unfriendly, in fact.
The fact that you bring up non-existent problems pretty much highlight my side of the argument. This game allows you to gear and play all the alts you have.
People want BiS gear, but don’t like the requirements. That’s fine. You can have the tier right below it. Exotics aren’t much different stat wise, and are much cheaper. Very alt friendly.
I think the replies have highlighted the issue, which is that there is no alternative way to obtain it.
For those in small guilds, guild commendations don’t exist.
For those that loath the sight of fractals, another avenue s closed.
The simple solution is to make ascended stuff tradeable before worn, so those with a oversupply of laurels can utilise them and those with neither the time nor the inclination to enter fractals, be in a big guild, or who just want to kit out their mains (3 or 4 of them, 1-4 armor sets each) can also do so.
Games are supposed to be FUN, not a series of daily chores for months on end in order to kit your toons out so that you can do the things you want to do and not be outclassed by the ‘I have one main haha’ brigade.
Some of us actually log in to games to enjoy themselves and do the stuff we feel like doing, not be forced into artificial pathways by bad game design- which leads to us quitting sooner or later or looking around for something else to do.
Wait. You say that there’s no alternative, but then go on to list the actual alternatives. So the issue isn’t the requirements or the game itself. It’s the player who refuses to put in effort to get something.
Do you just want all the stuff handed to you? If so, that’s the definition of Entitlement.
Europe’s VAT was always included in the price. The US laws regarding online transactions do vary. Some laws require a company to have a physical presence in the state before taxes can be charged. Some companies charge tax regardless, because they’re good about reporting everything properly.
You can enjoy this game normally with just Exotics.
Go and do Fractal level 50 with just exotics and post your video doing so. The choice should be to play without the BiS. As in “Here I am doing FOTM 50 in all white gear!”
Having BiS right now, is not a matter of choice, it is trusted upon us, after we already had BiS (exoctic) gear.
And you’re still not dealing with the issue of having to acquire said gear repeatedly, for a lot of different characters.
That is not Alt Friendly.
Aha! Fractals are elite dungeons that you’re required to be geared for. So your argument is moot, since you can’t compare 99% of the game to one type of hard dungeon.
That said, this game is definitely alt friendly. You can have 15 different characters, and it wouldn’t be too expensive to gear then all in at least Rare level weapons and armor.
Yes either play one character with max gear or 15 different ones with rare gear.
Thats not alt friendly.
Why even get yellow gear at all. Why not just white gear or naked. You can still kill stuff naked so why use armor at all.
That’s true. You can play this game normally with White, Blue, or Green weapons and armor.
Do what some players do. Take a day off on update Tuesdays so you can jump into the game right away!
So who wins the Super Bowl in 2014?
49ers. I’m calling it now.
You can enjoy this game normally with just Exotics.

There are no apps that allow you access to buying and selling outside of the game. Yet another conspiracy thread.
We are powerless to stop the birth of these threads from people who don’t visit or read our trade forums.
Ah yes entitlement, the fallback position to demonise those who don’t want to grind.
But here’s the catch. You don’t have to grind. You make the choice to grind because of your desire to have the best stuff. You can enjoy this game normally with just Exotics.
I killed Zhaitan just fine using Rare Armor and weapons, and I would probably kill him using Ascended gear too. So what’s the difference?
Counter post to correct some of your errors:
1) It’s not easy, by means of the amount of Mats you need.
2) Getting to lv 500 Crafting isn’t cheap. Then on top of that, you still need to refine further to craft Ascended Mats.
3) The gates force you to put in the effort to get the BiS gear. You can’t just go out and fully gear all your characters with Ascended armor and weapons. “Time” is an investment that you need to put in before you can walk away with the gear. Be thankful it’s not locked behind RNG.1) It is easy. Grinding the mats takes no effort. Just time. You are confusing time spent mindlessly grinding mats with something that actually takes effort.
2) I wasn’t talking about crafting, nor did I imply it. Leveling the craft is a one-time deal and one-time expense. The topic at hand has nothing to do with this, rather the actual crafting itself.
3)Time-gating does not equal effort. All it means I have to log-in and grind, see #1)
Time does not equal effort. Time spent grinding out mats and waiting behind time-gating equals boredom and screams that the developers couldn’t think of any better way to implement this gear. I’m also not saying I want to be able to outfit all my characters instantly with it either. You are making that assumption on your own.
I would be more inclined to actually get this gear if it required me to do more than play farmville. I want to earn new gear. You may like mindless grind and consider it an effort and want to defend it. I do not. I want to be able to run dungeons, fractals, events, something, anything to earn it besides a horribly long time-gated grind.
When exotic was BiS, we had options as to how we wanted to make it. With the new tier, they seem to have not put any thought into and just said “heres some new BiS gear. Go grind it or rely on RNG, we don’t really care anymore”.
More corrections:
1) There’s a difference between grinding mats, and actually getting the mats to drop. T6 drop, but not as often as one would like. T5 mats and lower are a bit more common, so grind usually takes care of these. The higher tiers require both time and luck. The RNG makes it so that rare drops stay rare, thus keeping their values as they are. Powerful Blood are the most expensive on the TP, mainly because it’s both rare and in high demand. So yes, it does take effort to collect enough T6+ mats.
2) I was making the point that crafting to level 500 is an expensive task. In order to craft Ascended gear, you must be at level 500, or get luck from drops. Ultimately, Ascended crafting = not cheap.
3) Gating something = effort. If you feel that it’s not worth the time, and don’t choose to slowly gather the required Ascended mats, then you won’t be able to make the gear. Pretty simple. Make the effort, reap the rewards. I’m more than willing to craft my mats once per day in order to gear my characters. I’m in no rush to show off my Ascended armor. The stat increases that come with it won’t make me a superior player in PvE and WvW.
4) You can run dungeons and Fractals all you want. Nothing is stopping you. Dungeons are good for tokens, which you then can trade for armor or weapons. FotM gives you relics to get Ascended rings. Do some WvW for Badges, which you can then use to pick any armor setup you want. Kill Tequatl for his rare Ascended weapon chests he drops.
Ascended > Exotic, but not necessary. If you want the Ascended gear, make the effort to get it. Otherwise, stick with Exotics, and enjoy the game.
I think the argument falls in the Entitlement category. Some players feel that they should be able to get all the BiS gear quickly and easily. Because Ascended gear takes time and effort to craft, you get the push back from players who don’t want to expend the time and effort.
Stop thinking that your overly dedicated behavior deserves to be rewarded. Just because Anet allows for more than one character slot doesn’t mean you have to use them. You’re the one creating this burden for yourself, not Anet.
Playing on alts means variety which leads to players staying in the game longer. So anet is just shooting themselves in the foot here.
Are you saying that not having the best gear is game breaking?
And you’re not understanding that Ascended gear is BiS, and isn’t meant to be gotten quickly, easily, or cheaply.
I agree. Except it is easy. Dailies and monthlies are joke to do. They don’t cost anything either.
Quickly is all thats left, and this time-gating is the dumbest thing they could do. They don’t want people to have it right on the first day, I get that. Its supposed to be hard to get, I get that.
But this is truly the best they could come up with for achieving that? Time gate it behind a lame 20min daily for weeks? If this is the best they could come up with, I weep for the future of this game.
Your argument would be valid if you actually had to do anything hard to get it. You don’t. You only have to grind and do the dailies. The only difference between GW2 BiS gear grind and any other MMO is that you can’t do it faster. They not only dangle the carrot, but put a leash on you so you can’t get it unless its on their time-table.
This is revolutionary? Ugh.

And you’re not understanding that for GW2, that’s bad game design because it flies entirely in the face of how the game was supposed to be. (insert quote about even casuals having BiS by level 80 here)
But silly me. I forgot. You’re one of those players that wants GW2 to be just like every other MMO already out on the market.
Please do remind me of what GW2 was suppose to be like, or what proper game design is? Is there an industry standard, or is all this based on what you personally want?
No, you’re making a PURCHASE. Doesn’t matter what you’re buying, as long as the transaction is being done with real money.
Ascended armor is not meant to be gotten easily, quickly, or cheaply.
Working as intended.
Be with a big party thats all I am hearing….trust people you don’t know when the human race by nature is cruel and unjust…I hate to say it but I would hate to have to prove that I would only be abused and used in large groups and taken from.
You do realize that there’s currently no “friendly fire” in WvW, right? Your server team mates cannot attack you. Look for the Commander icons, blend in with the zerg ball, and win.
Note – You still need to play the game. So if you just stand around, and not dodge AOEs, you’ll end up dead.
Question:
How come none of you guys use guild coms and WvW badges and/or fractal relics ? You do realize that by doing so you can reduce the laurel requirements by a LOT, and I do mean a LOT.
Rings: free via fractals
earrings: free via guild comms
backpiece: reduced via fractals
amulet: free via guild comsAR infusions: free via fractals
Stat infusions: reduced via WvWI am looking forward to logging into the game today and gettign at least armorsmith and tailor up to 500. Going to leave leatherworker for later due to simple fact I dont play much leather wearing toons.
I dont see any problem with any of this and think the people that complain about it are the ones who are demonstrating flat out gross incompetence at different aspects of the game such as WvW only players or PvE only players, and as such, should never be able to get any of these items at all, as these are supposed to be best in slot.
^ this exactly. Options are there for players willing to make the effort.
Both of you are not understanding the point of the OP.
Yes, if you have only 1 character with one build then gearing up isn’t really a problem. But the extensive time gating behind ascended gear limits you a lot. Prior to ascended gear if you wanted to try a new build (or gear up a fresh lvl 80) you could do it with some saved up karma, 5-15g and use the tp, or use saved up mats and craft it. Now everything is time gated.
Yes, rings are free (anyone can get a group for fractals).
Guild commendations are not free, you need to be in a big enough guild to be able to do them, so they do not help everyone.
With ascended gear if you want to gear someone up you now need to spend:
0 = Rings, either 20 days for pristines, or get lucky with a drop
20 = Amulet (from WvW)
80 = Accessory (or 0 with 2 weeks min from guild missions)
0 = Back (but you need 1,850 fractal relics)
20-30 =5 laurels per weapon (minimum 4 weapons, max 6)
30 = 6 armor pieces
————-
160 laurels max to gear up one character for one build (80 if you are in a big enough guild).150 laurels min (70 if you have commendations).
Even assuming you can do guild missions. How can you justify just under 2 months (50 days of dailies and both monthlies) to gear up 1 character or change builds. Or at the longest extreme 4 months (120 from dailies + 40 from monthlies) for 1 set of gear. And that’s assuming playing every single day. And during those 2.5-4 months they still need to gather all of the other mats (guild commendations, 1.8k fractal relics, etc.)
While I don’t have the problems of people with multiple characters (I’m happy just gearing my main in ascended) I can at least understand where they are coming from.
What would you do if you’re favorite build got nerfed to the point of being unuseable in dungeons/WvW/whatever you like to do and you had to get a whole new gear set?
And you’re not understanding that Ascended gear is BiS, and isn’t meant to be gotten quickly, easily, or cheaply.
Can we backwards convert to Pristines? I have over 6k relics just sitting around.

my server has no baring on myself and my wife trying to complete the maps cause not everyone in blackgate is going to stand up for their server mates so why is the server a big deal.
They will be just as much against me as the enemies.
BG runs people over. In fact, lower tier servers run from them. If you’re unable to complete your WvW map when you own everything, something is seriously wrong.
Do your daily each day, and you have 365 Laurels in a year. That’s enough to fully gear all 12 of your characters.
And you say ascended is not neccesary, then why exotics? why not use greens or blues instead?
Some of my characters do have blues and greens. Having all Exotics or Ascended gear doesn’t make you a better player.
Nowhere does it say it is limited to collections IN YOUR BANK, until you buy it.
Anet, either fix the info or fix the collection expander, please.
Aren’t your collections located IN YOUR BANK?
You get 1 Laurel per daily completion. These don’t take long to do, so even Casuals can do it. And keep in mind that Ascended Armors are top of the line BiS gear. It’s not meant to be able to get easily or quickly. Even if you did 3 dailies a week, you should have roughly 150 Laurels saved up over the year. That’s more than enough to be alt friendly.
150 laurels is more than enough to be alt friendly? lol How many toons can you max out in ascended with that?
150 laurels = 5 amulets.
er.. um.. let’s see. Divide by 6, carry the one… add a time gate… factor in soulbinding…. balance changes… hmmm…
nope, not alt friendly at all.
But as I’ve been saying for months, ANet doesn’t care about alts. There more worried about the majority with a single toon running out of stuff to get.
You can also use Guild Commendations to get amulets and other accessories. Just because you don’t play all aspects of the game, doesn’t mean other people can’t fully gear all their characters.
After a Mysterious Cat Tonic, +Karma infusions, +attribute infusions, etc., I still have over 300 Laurels. Add to that about 100 Guild Commendations for casually doing Guild Missions, and you get the picture.
As I said earlier, Daily completions don’t take long. You just need to put in some effort to pick the easy ones, and complete them. Heck, some players can even get their Monthly done on the first day.
Here’s some tips on how you can speed up some of your achievements: Monthly requirements sometimes have “Salvage 500 items” or “Craft Masterwork”. You can stockpile your bank with these things ahead of time. Also, join a zerg in WvW, and you can get your 50 Invader kills in an hour’s worth of play.
The way you beat RNG is to throw more attempts at it. 1,000 BL keys should do the trick.
There seem to be two Asian looks for human women
Asian themed looks? Cantha expansion confirmed!
The new healing skills are OP. They should have been locked behind 50 SP to get.

Evon, being the great and wise charr that he is, is offering 40% off Gem Store items that you gift to friends.
Holiday Gifting Event
“From now through December 31, players who send a gift to a friend can purchase that same item in any quantity for themselves at 40% off! Let the sharing begin! All discounts must be claimed by 11:59 p.m. PST on December 31.”
Let’s all show our support to Evon by gifting Black Lion keys to friends, then buying boat loads for his new, updated chests! And remember, if you buy 4,000 Gems from the store, he’s giving you a Mini Mr. Sparkles as a bonus (in January)! December is a great month for us!
Are there any new Asian looks for human?
I just spent 15 minutes reading this thread. From what I get from the OP:
WvW areas should not allow people to attack each other. PvP = bullying
But then I see that he’s from Black Gate. The #1 NA server. BG’s opponents can barely cap a Sentry, let alone Camps without getting a zerg ball run over them. If he can’t do his WvW completion on a server that owns 100% of the map a majority of Season 1, then there’s no advice any one of us could give to help him.

Just because you aren’t banned yet, doesn’t make it ok. Stuff like this is most likely low priority. That said, all it takes is getting caught once, and you lose your account. If you want to test this out, you can always self report, and see if a GM takes any action.

TP is shared by both NA and EU.
This is correct.
The trading post is currently global, There is only one trading post.one tp to rule them all
one tp to find them
one tp to bring them all
and in the darkness bind them
John is our Precious!
It’s against the rules and bannable to macro like that. As Gaile has said before, one button press = one button press. Macro Button A performing the role of the A key is fine. But Macro Button A performing the role of A + B is against the rules, and bannable.
Did you even read the OP? He’s asking if it’s ok to set a macro to loop a button press.
@OP: If you set it up on a random timer every couple of seconds it’ll be indistinguishable from you just hitting the key every few seconds. You could even set it to toggle every time you pressed the key or something.
And he provided a correct answer. 1 key = 1 action is the rule. If you loop a button press, you basically have 1 key = unlimited actions. So while botting the auto loot is very minor, it’s also very bannable.
I highly recommend the OP consider everything before using a macro in such a way. If you’re willing to take the risk of an account closure for the convenience of a button press, go for it. If you’re willing to take the risk of an Anet employee turning a blind eye if you get caught, then that’s your choice too.
The religious connection is there. I would suggest you appeal if you feel wronged, but remember that it’s ultimately Anet’s decision.
If you don’t like farming, please feel free to buy all my mats off of the TP. I’ll be ready to unload them tomorrow.
At this point, you should submit a ticket to Customer Support. The system should be up and running, but if only your card is having problems, Anet might be able to tell you why.
Did you submit a ticket to Customer Support?
I’d much prefer that my home instance somehow grows a tree that supplies Ancient Wood Logs…
Or at least let me go to the sylvari home world, and harvest the Mother Tree.

Devs gave a loud NO! during the livestream. Scarlet will not be appearing during Wintersday.
Tis a lie! It cannot be true!
I’ve been speculating for months on Silver, Gold, and Platinum. I’m ready to go once that content is released.
Using a lv 21 character to do LA JPs often give Silver Doubloons. You should consider keeping a low level just for this purpose. Great moneymaker for you, or a way to farm SDs for your Juggernaut.
The cash shop is the incentives to spend real cash.
Incorrect. Because you have the ability to get “cash shop” currency for free using in game currency, the real incentives go to getting players to use real money instead.
There are players here who spend not a single penny on this game outside of the initial purchase of the client and account. These players, while hardcore and dedicated as they are, do not generate income for the company. Sales of new accounts and microtransactions are the bread and butter.

Your argument might have merit, if GW2 was a Pay 2 Win model. However, since it’s not, the only thing that you’re complaining about is that paying customers get a free gift, and non-paying ones don’t.
No! I don’t care that you’re getting it for free, and i don’t want one for free either. Has anyone read anything i wrote?
I’m ONLY saying i don’t like the items being exclusively for those who have bought gems.
It’s your opinion that you don’t like that paying customers get a free exclusive bonus, and non-paying customers don’t. That’s fine. And in response, I explained why it makes perfect business sense to treat paying customers well by offering these bonus items.
To make it clear, let me offer a situation for all you complainers. Say you own a business. Now you have two types of players that support your business. “Customer A” spends $60 one time over the course of a year. “Customer B” spends $600 over the same time frame. Question: Which customer would you rather cater to so they continue to do business with you?
Depends on how many $60 customers versus $600 you have. If catering to the $600 drives off enough of the $60 ones then you’re doing something wrong.
That’s a fair point. But if both types of customers already paid the $60 once, but then Customer B spends much more continuously, it would make sense that you’d want that customer to continue to spending money by offering incentives.
I don’t need 4k Gems, but I have to consider the fact that if I end up buying more Gems later, I’d have missed out on the bonus offer. The promotional free item does pad their quarterly reports, but at the same time, rewards a purchase that I probably would have done anyway, even without the freebies.
