Wait wait wait. I didn’t see the stream. Are you confirming that the entire lore of the Reactor Fractal… is based on someone “we” did, or will do? As in our interference with the Fractal research caused a rift in time, and lead to the Reactor breaking. Or is it just that we’ll play the part of the Inquest who caused the meltdown?

In either scenario, this makes the case for a Recall Election even greater. I feel so bad for Evon and his supporters right now. The Abaddon Fractal is just screaming to be built…

Kiel supporters continue to smear Evon’s good name. I can only hope that Anet realizes that there was a mistake made by the players, and that we have a “Living Story Recall Election” to pull Ellen Kiel out, and place Evon Gnashblade on the Captain’s Council.

And if/when we recall Kiel, I think it would be fair that players pay back all discounted WP costs that she gave. Tis a small price to pay to have Evon in his rightful place, since he’s the Hero of Lion’s Arch.

So as I brought up previously, the loss of the human gods lore Fractal is quite significant.

Why? Significant for who? What does it change for anybody to know more about this, other than personal satisfaction/curiosity? Even the “living” gods are no longer relevant in Tyria. They’re not active. They might as well not exist. So… what?

I as a player don’t care about the old gods.
My human characters are more invested in the things that happen right now. My asuran, charr, norn and sylvari characters don’t give a skritt about human gods either.

So I don’t know what your definition of “quite significant” is. Maybe you meant “interesting to me”? Which would be fair enough and a good enough reason for you to vote for whichever fractal you chose. But please don’t try to make other people feel like they did it “wrong”.

Well it’s safe to say that since you don’t care for any lore, it makes sense that you wouldn’t understand the importance of such a major event like the fall of a god.

I’ll leave you with this: Without the lore from the past, there would be no GW1, and thus no GW2. The Guild Wars universe is Story centric. Lore drives the events that take place. Without it, then the game becomes a “kill ten skritt” and win the game.

PS – The Six gods are part of the Eternal Alchemy (asura religion), more powerful than the Titans (charr past religion), greater than the Spirits of the Wild (norn religion), and more significant than the Dream (sylvari religion).

I’ll ask this here given that the interview talks about ascended weapons but I doubt I’ll get a response.

Chris W made 2 statements when ascended items were introduced: that there would be zero grind associated with acquisition; and multiple ways of getting them. How can these statements be reconciled with the grindy nature of obtaining mats to make ascended weapons and that there is effectively only 1 way of getting them (given the drop rate is absolutely miniscule)?

1) What grind? I get more than enough Ascended mats simply from playing normal. Players create the grind themselves by wanting to rush mat collecting. All my alts are full of Bloodstone, Dragonite, and Empyreal stacks. Of all the stacks I have, I only grind/farmed 10% of them so I could craft my first Ascended weapon quickly.

2) There are multiple ways to get Ascended weapons. You can craft them, or get them from drops, or from WvW Rank chests. Just because you’re not lucky enough to get an Ascended chest drop, doesn’t mean they don’t exist.

True Reactor lore is relevant. But keep in mind that the Reactor’s side effects from the experiment is small scale compared to the battle between gods. Even Shiro’s magic explosion from GW:Factions had more of an impact than the Chaos energies released in the current story (i.e. Jade sea).

So as I brought up previously, the loss of the human gods lore Fractal is quite significant. I can only hope that we get a chance to put Evon in charge. Otherwise, as Anet stated, the other Fractal will never be made.

Although another compromise would be if Ree Soesbee would write a book detailing the past lore. I’d gladly pay for that.

Smooth Penguin.5294

I’ll address the following:

It seems ANet is going off the theory that everyone farmed the event and everyone has a lot of resources/$$. This is simply not true.

Anet has access to internal reports that can provide a general idea of what happened with the JQ farming. Any data about wealth and resource acquisition is during this time frame would relate to a game wide data set, not an individual one. So yes, it’s true that not everyone farmed and made a lot of money. But also realize that Anet is not basing “sink creations” on the false assumption that everyone got rich.

That said, it doesn’t discount the fact that a lot more resources were made available overall. With the increase in resources, prices fell, and a lot of it was shared with other players via the Trading Post. Some players who didn’t do Pavilion or Aetherblade Champ farming are technically left behind. But the resources generated from these events still exist, and increased Supply.

Large scale farming vs money making

Just an aside: The reason why “sinks” need to be in place is because of the large increase in the availability of resources from farming. Loot drops and the eventual selling of them on the TP have a greater impact on the economy than gold farming. Doing Gauntlet runs, CoF speed clears, or being a TP Baron do not generate resources, but rather individual wealth.

Evon would have still reset your fractal level :p

don’t care to see epic battle of gods which literally vaporized and ocean into a desert would be worth it. In end we only get to see a nuclear explosion.

This was also only chance to actually see the 6 human gods of GW1

Well for starters, it was that event that caused it but how isn’t explain, it’s not likely that we would have seen it then turn to water. second it it doesn’t necessarily mean we would have seen the gods or even fought with them, all things considered it probably wouldn’t be any more exciting than the reactor.

The lore behind the fall of a god is much more important than the Inquest blowing up an experiment. The landscape of Tyria was forever changed in the god wars, and missing out on a chance to see just a tiny part of it is disheartening.

It wasn’t just about GW1 lore tying into GW2 lore. It’s part of the backstory of the overall GW universe.

Farmers: what should be done.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Smooth Penguin.5294

Smooth Penguin.5294

I have a better solution to farming, don’t by materials from the TP, if you need materials go out and spend the time acquiring all necessary mats you need to do whatever it is, that way the farmers can’t make money off the mats they farm, you’ll have the satisfaction of acquiring your own materials thus making the game a more rewarding experience….no changes to the monetary system needed.

You’re forgetting one key thing here: Human nature.

We live in a world where we want everything here and now. People who want their Legendary weapons right away will not want to wait to farm their own mats. Due to this, there will always be people in need of mats from other players.

On a similar note, if you were to take away the ability to short cut the process via the TP, expect rage from the community like you’ve never seen on the forums before.

I’m glad John responded. Insider trading has only two sources: Anet employees and fan-site admin invited to preview content.

I’m sure an employee wouldn’t want to risk his job to score a quick TP profit, and fan-site admins wouldn’t want to lose their preview privileges all the same. To know that Anet does have plans to curb such activity. But people should take heart in knowing that while the percentages would be low (would say less than 1%), market speculators with high volume trading would be a bigger reason for any type of price movement.

That’s true. The good vs evil debate is always a good way to see things. It’s as basic as you can get, and nearly 100% of the player base could relate to it, regardless of personal background or nationality. But while people only see the surface story with one person appearing to be good, and one person appearing to be bad, there’s the back-stories that can change the whole direction of the debate. I just wish more people understood Evon as the hero, and not just as the shopkeeper with RNG wares.

That’s where the disconnect is. The “side story” as you bring up was only on the GW2 website, but because it was lore written by Anet’s Angel McCoy, this is still a part of who Evon is.

What I don’t get is that Collin himself was an Evon supporter. For the in game storyline to reflect Evon in a negative light is still beyond me. Because we all know Kiel is the true villan here.

But when you look at the overall makeup of the population, it appears that those of us who debated the Reactor vs. Abaddon Fractal were in the minority. Most people only saw the one tangible benefit, which was lower WP costs vs. BL Keys. Then that became a crusade against RNG. And with the masses seeing cheap travel, the amount of money you saved was minuscule on a per player basis. I calculated that the most you could save one a single WP travel cost, could easily have been made by getting one Masterwork weapon/armor drop, and selling it to a merchant.

Edit – Oh yeah, there was also the negative stereotyping of charrs being evil, and humans being good. Due to that alone, Evon had a rough start, even though he was more of a hero for saving LA, than Kiel was when taking credit for all the work we did to save Southsun Cove.

Anet does not restock Gems into the Exchange. Players like me who buy Gems with real money, then trade the Gems for Gold slowly help to resupply the Gem count. But there will always be more players buying Gems with Gold. As this game ages, so too does player wealth. More disposable Gold on the player end means constant rising exchange rates.

Slowly, as there’s less and less Gems in the pot, rates will get higher and higher. At the point there it becomes too costly for players to buy Gems with Gold, the other player types will jump in and by Gold with their Gems. Rates then inch back down until players decide to buy Gems with Gold again. Thus continuing the cycle.

While it’s possible for Gems to run out in the pot, chances are that will not happen. Players who have disposable Gems will always exist.

Evon is a hero that saved LA from a rogue charr leader. Kiel wouldn’t be alive today if it wasn’t for him protecting the humans. Get your facts straight.

And BL Keys and RNG are still here. Voting for Kiel did nothing in that regards.

I’m not sure if you’re making that up for the sake of a whimsical thread or if you’re being earnest. In the actual dialogue and missions presented for the LS, Evon was clearly shown as an underhanded scoundrel who wanted to steal Kiel’s thunder and keep stolen goods instead of return them (as Kiel was going to). That’s the Gnashblade your average player saw and the most obvious reason he got voted down.

As a proud Evon supporter, I’m quite certain that Ms. Kiel is over her head in her current position. I firmly believe that Evon’s business savvy would have yielded a prime trade agreement with the Zephyrites, which might have lead to a plethora of Quartz nodes for the speculated use of Charged Quartz Crystals. And that the fractals depicting the fall of Abaddon should be in the upcoming rotation of FotM. The real choice was the lore behind the fall of a god, or the meltdown of an experimental magic reactor.

True that I’m not happy Ms. Kiel bought the election with the promise of cheaper WPs, but it was Cutthroat Politics after all. But as with all politics, we should have the choice to ask for the recall vote to remove politicians. I implore Anet to add this to the Living Story, so that we may then properly elect Evon Gnashblade to the Captain’s Council!

Smooth Penguin.5294

And that’s the situation I’d like to see changed. I don’t think that it should take any amount of effort to make money off the TP, or conversely that putting a lot of effort into the TP should make money. The TP is not something that should require skill or even interest to make the most of it, it should just be a tool for players to get rid of items they don’t want, or to find items that they do, not as a money engine for those that care to work it.

So basically your argument is that you don’t want to, or care to take the time to earn money, so you want an easier way to do it? Classic “Entitlement” argument. I’ll give you an example:

Player A – I have 1,000 Gold and worked hard to get it

Player B – I have 5 Gold, and I deserve to have 1,000 Gold too.

Player A – But I dedicated hours of my own time to learn how to buy and sell on the market to earn my money. I didn’t even level my characters to 80, or complete the story yet.

Player B – I don’t care. The Trading Post is a tool that should make earning money easy without working hard. So I want 1,000 Gold now, and at the same time, I want you to be able to not make money so quickly and easily.

Player A – So why do you get easy Gold, and I don’t?

Player B – Because it’s fair that way.

I think I know how to end this discussion, since we’ve already proven our arguments to be true and correct.

Player A has “Superior Rune of the Traveler” for sale at 7 gold.
Player B buys “Superior Rune of the Traveler”, and relists it for 9 gold.
Player C buys it from Player B, and decides to use it.
Ohoni sees this happening, and disagrees with Player B’s actions.

Summary (excluding all taxes to make the numbers simple):

Player A – Sold rune for 7 gold.
Player B – Made 2 gold profit
Player C – Satisfied with rune
Ohoni – Not happy to see rune resold, but his opinion doesn’t matter since Player C is satisfied with the price he paid.

Moral of the story – Capitalism works. Any argument otherwise means that person wants a state controlled distribution of wealth.

But C is only happy with it because he is ignorant to the fact that he could have gotten it for 7g instead. He would be very annoyed if he realized that someone had scammed him for 2 gold. And player A would be annoyed if he realized he could have charged 2g more and it would still sell. Ideally he would have just charged 8g and they both would have been happy. The one least deserving of any returns in that scenario is player B, who did nothing bout making the whole thing worse.

No. Allow me to explain why your argument is wrong:

Player A is happy he has 7 gold from the sale.
Player B is happy he made 2 gold profit off the resale.
Player C is satisfied, as he made the choice to pay the 9 gold for something he wanted to use.

Player A sells “red ball” to Player B for 10 gold. Player B sells “red ball” to Player C for 15 gold. Player C keeps the “red ball” to use.

Player C got what he wanted, for a price he deemed fair The issue isn’t that Player C could have gotten it for 10 gold. No, the issue is that Player C got what he wanted, and Player B made money. If Player C felt 15 gold for the “red ball” was too high, he wouldn’t have bought it.

Not sure how much more simple you can get. This system is fair and balanced, since each player makes the choice to make purchases. If a Casual player can’t afford to pay the prices for a certain item, then they weren’t meant to have it. Just like how not everyone is meant to purchase a Tesla.

Now if the people here feel it would be fair that everyone should be able to purchase a Tesla, then we’re right back at “entitlement”.

One additional point. Player(s) B can’t buy up the entire supply from sellers. So it’s not like Player C can only buy the item from Player(s) B which I know is going to be the next point that Ohoni is looking to make.

To add: Player C could have bought the “red ball” from Player D for 13 gold, but didn’t want to wait for his Buy Order to be filled, since Player B was selling his right away. Player C decides that a 2 gold difference isn’t much to worry about.

How are non gem buyers supposed to compete with players who buy gems? I feel gw2 is becoming another mmo where you have to pay with real life money to be the best or grind until you are dead.

If you feel you can’t beat the game without buying Gems, you’re doing it wrong. It’s not a rich or poor issue, it’s learn to play.
