There’s no stealth inside the arena. That mechanic is working as intended. As for spawning on a mine, I’ve never seen that happen. Perhaps you walked over one?

That would explain why it didn’t work, but then why rule out a number of class mechanics? Is there an npc that explains this?

You may not have seen it happen. This doesn’t mean that it can’t. No, I spawned on top of a mine, not dead centre but underneath its circle.

The reason why I can’t see this happening is because with this fight, you spawn in the exact same place. And the mines spawn in the exact same place and pattern. You do start off close to a mine on the left or right of you. I can see you, perhaps, strafing either side and setting one off.

Also, the no stealth mechanic isn’t stated. I learned the hard way that I can’t perma stealth my way to victory with these fights.

We have been given extremely easy contents in the past. GW2 has been a joke in terms of difficulty and it wasn’t fun. People would end up getting everything if they just grind.

IMO, this patch(gauntlet) is a huge step forward. Definitely a challenge rather than a punish. Keep up the good work ANET!!

Would love to see more Liadri and Aetherblade dungeon type achievements! Give us more achievements that people actually need skills to do rather than grind.

+1 to you.

I hope we get this type of content on a monthly basis. It would keep the skilled/hardcore content players happy, as well as challenge those players who want to push their limits.

Spoken like true casual gamers.

No punishment and no risk means your achievements are empty. Just like the daily gathering achievement. Just another one of those laundry list of boring things to do.

No way could you accuse me of being a casual gamer as I’ve logged over 2800 hours on GW2. Like the OP I have put in a lot of time/effort/research (changed up builds time and again) in trying to beat Liadri. And it is absolutely fine that I may not beat her or Chomper the wonderdog because for whatever reason maybe I am not good enough to beat them.

But I want to keep trying as I love the challenge aspect of this but I detest the frustration of the wait time/run time/ticket cost/farm time.

If the wait time and WP/run back time is too much of a burden, then make sure you succeed in your next fight. It’s more incentive for you to win.

In short, it’s all working as intended.

Smooth Penguin.5294

The only punishing I see in QG is the feature punishing players for not running certain build and for being an individual. Anet wants to pigeon hole every player into certain way of dealing with the encounters. However, I refuse to allow them to punish me from running my build so I refuse to participate any longer — and I made this choice after 5 tries trying to beat Dead Eye, let alone Liandri.

Actually, your QG forces you to play at your best, and if that doesn’t work, adjust your strategy accordingly. Zerker, PVT, Celestial, etc. All have different stats that compliment an individual play style.

Continuing on that note, certain play styles are not meant for this challenge. There is a timer involved, so certain play styles that rely on hit/run tactics that slowly kill the enemy won’t work. Same for blindly Leeroying with hack/slash play styles when you have massive 1-hit AOE hovering above your head and walking bombs coming at you.

If you choose to stick with your certain play style and gear set up, I’m sure Anet will respect your choice. But please don’t get mad if you can’t win if your setup isn’t optimal for that individual fight.

Just beaten Deadeye a few minutes ago. This was the most frustrating fight I’ve seen. The telegraphed “laser sight” isn’t really that much of an indicator. So far from these fights I’ve found:

- Choppy camera issues
- Fighting to see things against special effects (obscuring Deadeye)
- Mass invisibility stealth function not working. (I play a Mesmer)
- Feedback not working on Killshot.
- Temporal Curtain (Focus 4 with Warden’s Feedback trait NOT working).
- Spawning on top of a mine.
- Spawning to an instant Kill Shot.

Some of this can be learnt… but the fight isn’t intuitive. It’s not natural. It’s learning the fight around the broken mechanics, with a dash of luck. Glad I beat it, but for the future – I want skill checks better than this. I want abilities to WORK.

There’s no stealth inside the arena. That mechanic is working as intended. As for spawning on a mine, I’ve never seen that happen. Perhaps you walked over one?

Punishing mechanics add to the challenge, when the challenge was made specifically so that a majority of the player base can’t do it.

As for skill, you do need it for this. If you can’t beat Liadri, you aren’t one of the top notch players. Mastery of dodge timing is a vital skill in this fight. So is the ability to pay attention to multiple mechanics throwing themselves at you all at once.

- Make World Rank cap at 250, at which you receive a Character-Bound reward.

- People will have a sense of progression, as well as motivation to play their alts at lvl 80.

Right now, there’s no cap in World Rank, so people constantly play their main character, which usually leads to burnouts and then quit the game.

There are already a lot of players with ranks beyond 250. Are you suggesting that Anet punish them for their achievements?

No sorry, bad idea. No cap is needed.

This has been discussed many times already. There was an exploit where players could make unlimited tickets for themselves. Basically making an alt, taking the 5 free tickets and putting it in the bank, delete alt, rinse and repeat. That’s why Anet had to change it from Account Bound to Soul Bound.

Ah I see, so it was just exploit based, fair enough!
But why not just remove giving each character 5 in the mail? Couldn’t they just remove that instead? Why not give one account 10 tickets for all their characters, then they need to play the content to get more.

I believe that they wanted to give each character the chance to participate in the event. By making it Soul Bound instead of giving a set amount to each account, Anet was able to preserve what was intended from the start.

But my apologies. I didn’t mean to derail this thread. So I’ll repeat my counter argument: Queen’s Gauntlet is well designed. Punishing mechanics only add to the challenge, and forces you to play well. If the content is too hard, try the Torch Run upstairs.

No, I think you and this whole thread is missing the point. The Queen’s Gauntlet is a challenge. Part of that challenge is if you fail, and no one is willing to rez you on that spot, you WP and run back. You don’t like it? There’s a couple of simple solutions to this problem:

Since I wrote the thread, I don’t think it’s possible for it and me to miss the point I’m making.

1) Don’t do it. If the content is too hard for you, move on. Remember, the QG was made specifically so that only the best players would win. You could even say that Anet purposely made it so that a vast majority of players would fail. The content is really hard, because it was made that way

It was too hard. I got better and beat it. Unnecessary Punishment is unnecessary. ’Nuff said.

2) Don’t fail. If you don’t like to constantly WP and run back, make sure you learn from your mistakes, and from watching others play, and beat the boss(es). If you keep failing, just make sure the next time you play you don’t fail.

Again, I sunk 50g and 45 hours into this. I changed my build over two dozen times, watched dozens of videos, read over a dozen guides, and watched hundreds of players take on Liadri and the Queen’s Gauntlet (without success, by the way – I’ve never seen someone beat her, outside of videos on youtube). Which is why I beat it. But after putting up with the unnecessary Punishments. Which aren’t necessary. Because they’re unnecessary. Which is my point. Comprende?

You’re still missing the point. This is a challenge. You took on that challenge willingly. You also made the choice to sink time and money into beating it.

So long story short, your whole thread is based off of the idea that a challenge shouldn’t be a challenge because hard is too hard. Am I right?

I don’t think there was any “tricks” involved. I think you just weren’t paying attention to your surroundings.

But it sounds like you like “hard mode” content. If you need a challenge, you can try the new Queen’s Gauntlet! It’s a more pure test of your skills. Why? Because you can get enough XP to be equivalent to a lv 200 with no deaths through safe means. It’s not hard to farm mobs in zergs, and run away before the zerg wipes. But you must use skills to beat the Queen’s Gauntlet. Give it a try!

Full servers are rediculous

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Smooth Penguin.5294

Smooth Penguin.5294

No, the problem with the OP is that he doesn’t understand what “full server” means.

A full server means that there are a max number of accounts housed on that particular server. It does not mean how many people are playing online at that moment. So just because certain times of day have less players online, the offline player data is still there. For example, if each server has a maximum of 100,000 player account slots, and it’s full, that means there are 100,000 accounts housed in that data center. Going further, if only 5,000 people are playing online, there are still another 95,000 offline account slots taken up.

If your server is popular, chances are that there are a lot of other players who are willing to pay Gems to transfer over. So now it becomes a game of cat and mouse. If someone just so happens to leave and open up an account slot, it’s first come first served to whoever wants in.

I really doubt if that’s the case. My server TC has reached full status quite faster every time server caps were increased, yet people who tried transferring at particular timeslots where the server had a little lower activity, actually made it. And this trend would continue almost everyday for some time. And many servers conduct organized blackouts to allow newer players or guilds to get in. So I think it has more to do with players online rather than the no. of players registered on that server.

No. That would mean that if your SEA population was greater than your NA, and your server was “full”, then that means hundreds, if not thousands of NA players could come over. And what would happen if all your NA logged in at the same time as your SEA? There’s no queue to log into the game.

It’s not about how many players are online. Because there are thousands of slots, chances are a few left to lower tier servers, and the system allowed new people in. This does happen on a daily basis. The other case is when Anet increases the maximum slots for each server, as they’ve done in the past.

Edit – One more thing. I believe Guesting uses up account slots. Not sure about this, but just wanted to throw that out.

Question about characters

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Smooth Penguin.5294

Smooth Penguin.5294

I’ll save you time. Anet will not restore your character or the items you lost when you deleted them.

There are in-game mechanics that address / prevent accidental deletions. You cannot delete a character without going through a couple of confirmation processes and without getting a warning about possible item loss. I don’t know what we can do, systemically, to address this issue any more clearly.

I do know that at the present time, we’re not in a position to dedicate resources towards offering a “do over” for these issues and certainly the process of a full account restorations is too time-consuming to offer (and would be inappropriate in these circumstances). Right now, having an agent research the matter and somehow replace the item would extend the time we take to respond to players with other issues, like account hacks. So this isn’t a service we currently can offer.

1) If you want to beat it, you need to retrait if you’re set up incorrectly. Trail and error. Anet’s not gonna tell each player how to play within their skill range. If you do better as a pure Zerker rather than PVT, trail accordingly. Same with armor setups. This challenge wasn’t meant for everyone anyway, so you gotta do what you gotta do in order to win. If that means paying 100 Gold to respec, that’s your choice.

Why does the hardcore zerker crowd always assume if someone is struggling with challenging content, that person must be wearing PVT? For the record, I don’t run PVT on my gauntlet character (and never have).

But with one-shot mechanics, there’s simply no point in players specing for defense whatsoever. Not complaining about the one-shot mechanics, but there’s no denying this content heavily favors glass cannons. After the big hubabbaloo about the devs wanting to encourage build diversity with the big rebalance patch, it’s no surprise that players are frustrated that ANet put in content that favors full zerker builds so heavily. This is Guild Wars 2, not Zerker Wars 2.

As evidenced by sPvP, gear does not equal skill. An event about challenging skilled players should be about skill and knowledge of your profession, not the gear you’re wearing. I wholeheartedly feel that the gauntlet would have been far better implemented in sPvP.

Glass Cannons have a downside – there’s more of a chance for them to die. That’s the trade off. High damage with less defense. If you can play well with a Zerker (i.e. good at evading), then spec for it and aim for the challenge. If you do well with a PVT, spec for it and aim for the challenge. You’re not required to pick from either. You can spec however your play style dictates.

That’s why this challenge is so good. It’s hard, and the only clues as to how to beat it is trail and error. Not doing enough damage? Zerker it up. If you need more HP, go with PVT. The only things that I agree with, out of all the reason for this thread, are bug fixes and the top floor instanced separate from the farming below. Other than that, Anet did a great job.

Why though, are we being forced to care about a human Queen for a month?

The point is that everybody is basically being forced to go and care about a race that not everybody cares about or plays.

Why is this being forced on everyone?

Someday I hope this forum learns what it actually means to be forced to do something, but my expectation is low.

Right chief. You have trouble reading into things, that’s ok I get it. I used “being forced” because if I want to participate in the living story I am forced to do so in this regard. I don’t know why people like you even post on the forums if all you do is play that stupid “you aren’t FORCED to do anything” card.

If you don’t like the content, you can run some dungeons, or WvW, or kill world bosses. Simple truth is, you’re forcing yourself to do something you don’t want to. <puts on straw hat> It’s like saying I’m forced to kill the Fire Ele every hour because his timer cycled through.

As for the crafting area you mention in your OP, all cities have them. DR’s one is a few blocks away. The area you’re referring to is the VIP section. It’s there for convenience, which requires the “VIP” ticket to get in.

I believe the orbs being obstructed are made like that on purpose. It forces you to get close enough to melee, or cast an AOE type attack. But for me, the orbs are not the issue. It’s being able to focus on the timing of the 1-hit AOE that drops in a pattern.

If you’re unskilled, and an orb just happens to spawn next to you, consider that luck. Otherwise, as I said in the title, there’s no RNG in this fight.

People who passed on had signed an agreement to donate their bodies for use in his art. I don’t remember his name, but if that’s not controversial, I don’t know what is. And you know what? Challenging content is challenging. You take away the challenge, then it becomes a freebie giveaway for a mini and Achievement points.

Making players pay for new gear, retraiting, armor repair, waypointing, and entry tickets is not a challenge. That’s a goldsink.

Making players run a long distance from the waypoint or grind for entry tickets is not a challenge. That’s a timesink.

Making players deal with a confusing registration system and significant FPS drops due to the zerg below is not a challenge. That’s poor planning.

Making players deal with camera glitches and domes not clearing out between matches is not a challenge. Those are game bugs.

Nobody in this thread is calling for scaling the difficulty of the encounters down. Folks in this thread who posted their feedback want the same level of challenge with more polish and less annoyance. The encounters would STILL challenging even if every single one of Crazylegsmurphy’s ideas were implemented.

1) If you want to beat it, you need to retrait if you’re set up incorrectly. Trail and error. Anet’s not gonna tell each player how to play within their skill range. 2) If no one gives you a rez when you die, you Waypoint and run back. Pretty simple concept. If you don’t like that, be sure you win next time you go in.

3) I agree with the zerg below part. The 2nd level of the area should have been a separate map.

4) Game bugs… Anet should fix them. But we live with the cards we’re dealt.

As for the queue, I see no problem. The fights are fast enough, and it gives other players the opportunity to watch and learn.

Anet fully understands that the players are frustrated. But the challenge is designed to push the best players. If people want an easier fight, there’s the Shadow Behemoth, Fire Ele, Shatterer, Jungle Wurm, etc etc. Hard content is hard. Challenging content is challenging. If you can’t do it, or don’t have fun doing it, find another enemy boss to kill.

Guess you missed this part…

Notice I didn’t say anything about the difficulty? I am not here to slam how difficult or challenging it is. Other than the limited time available to learn and beat the fight (remember how we complained about the last dungeon, or the Trials ANet?), it is pretty ok.

The problem is when you add in all these other factors, what could potentially be an amazing activity becomes a long, drawn out, expensive, and frustrating experience for many players.

Strategy is linked to skill, because you need the latter to pull it off. So far, I’m unable to focus on all aspects of the fight, so I always lose. I know what I need to do, and it’s easy to plan accordingly when you watch from above and outside. But in the middle of battle, I gotta pull, kite, dodge, all while paying attention to the tell mechanics.

At this point, what I would call “luck” is getting my act together so that I can fight Liadri the way I know I should be.

If everyone just ran as Thieves, we wouldn’t have to worry about all the graphical effects that fill the screen (like Eles and Mesmers).

My concern is about no culling. Does this mean all FPS will be dropping across the board when a zerg is within radar range?

As unfortunate and unfair as it may seem, ANet made this with the intention of challenging gamers since they haven’t released any content on this difficulty scale yet. Because of this, a much smaller percentage of the playerbase are going to be able to complete it anyway, and when it comes to those with disabilities, it may well become impossible to do. However, the very nature of a disability means you need to accept that there are going to be certain things you can’t do, and the only alternative is for ANet to nerf what was meant to be an incredibly difficult boss fight anyway, which isn’t exactly fair either.

The fact you got upto Liadri is great in itself, and means you’ve already seen and defeated every other encounter in the Gauntlet, not beating Liadri isn’t that big of a deal really.

And they didn’t make it so they could laugh at disabled people who couldn’t do it, it’s just that they didn’t make it with disabled people as the main target audience. They’ve still added heaps of stuff you -can- do, like the Jubilee achievements and the rest of the Gauntlet.

Very true. While there are things companies/government can do to assist people with disabilities, there will always be that barrier that one just cannot do. For example, take two people – one in a wheelchair and myself. Now take a certain profession – firefighter. The person in the wheelchair is unable to complete the obstacle course, obviously because he can’t climb a ladder. Now take me, no disability, but the physical strain of carrying 50lb. equipment up 10 floors of stairs is too much. We both can’t pass the evaluation. We’re both physically unable to do what’s needed.

If you have MS, and you’ve managed to beat some of the other tough Gauntlet bosses, that in itself is worthy of praise.

The thing is, Anet can’t make everyone happy. I’m sorry you suffer from a disability, but please don’t ask for a hard and challenging content addition to be made easier simply because you want the mini.

I want the mini too, and I keep failing in the Liadri fight. I’m not disabled. I’m just impatient, and know exactly what I need to do in the fight. Problem is, I panic as I’m fully focused on the boss, and once the red circles pop, I tend to dodge too early.

This content will stay hard, and will only be completed by a small percentage of the player population, disability or not.

~sighs~ I know, but it would have been nice to have an honest shot at me having that Mini, but you’re right, Penguin.

Take heart in knowing that while you have MS, you might just have more skills than a lot of players without disabilities.

Note – you can always join the zergs below farming the Champions. They drop good loot.

You’d have more luck if you did 1600 Exotic Greatswords. But by then, it would have been cheaper to sell them, and buy a Precursor off of the TP.

That means you already did that tower. The chests are once per map, per account. You need to go to other maps in order to finish the whole achievement.
