It also goes against what the game was originally built for. Accessibility, being downscaled to level with friends or upscaled for events.
The game as a whole allows you to be downscaled to play with friends, and upscaled in certain events.
The Queen’s Gauntlet, on the other hand, is the “Elite” dungeon. It was created specifically to be uber hard so that only the tiny, epic upper echelon of players would be able to finish it. Having only 5 testers out of 100 complete it speaks volumes.
if i’m not mistaken waypoint in the same map cost now 1s11c previously was 1s38c…
it doesn’t sound so much better than before…WP price depends on two things:
-your level
-distance to WPSo you’d actually have to compare the WP cost pre and post patch from the same spot.
Or you could say that with Kiel winning, he saved himself 27 Copper! What a deal!!!
Kiel won because she gave a bit lower wp cost for a month. Its about the equivalent of voting in a President because he’s going to lower taxi fares for a month.
This made me laugh. Why? Because it’s sad, but true.
And to those who will be WPing a lot more since it’s a little cheaper, do realize that you negate the discount with overuse of the WP. <puts on straw hat> It’s like saying “Why am I gaining weight? I drank 10 of those weight loss shakes yesterday!”
Missing out because I may not have time and missing out because I literally don’t have the power to complete the achievements is different. I miss out on a lot of the events. I don’t think i’ve ever been at an event where i’ve got 16 of 16 achievements in living world content and I am fully aware I am able to do so with this event as the Gauntlet achievements are separated. I still would have liked the opportunity to be able to attempt this with a fair fighting chance. For the lulz I even took a level 4 engineer into a battle and if it would have been possible to do more damage I would have killed Halmi with her but the lack of damage in the 2 minute timeframe is impossible anyhow.
You say I could make a new character and level to 80 in this 2 week period, sure if I had the time to play the game. it is now 1am my time. I can play for like 2 hours in a night at most at the moment with the amount I have to do in the day time. When I go back to college i’ll be lucky to get that with the amount of work required to pass a year.
I chose to level in moderation but even if I didn’t I still wouldn’t be able to do so in 2 weeks lol
You’re missing the point here. Even with a lv 80 character doesn’t guarantee you’ll finish the content. The main factor in play is skill level. Casual or Hardcore players all have different levels of skill. The Queen’s Gauntlet forces you to play at the top of your game. So don’t feel bad that you’re missing out. I still haven’t beaten the challenge, and I’m a fully Exotic/Ascended lv 80. If my skill level isn’t up to par for this, then I’ll miss out too.
It’s funny how you completed it, yet you call it broken. That’s a contradiction. If it were truly broken, no one would finish it. Basic flaws aside (dome making camera angles hard, bugs, etc), the Queen’s Gauntlet forces you to use mechanics of the game to survive. I highly doubt that even as a Zerker Warr, these players were able to finish everything without a single use of a dodge, or adjusting their skill sets to counter something thrown at them. As for complaining about being 1 shot, it seems you learned how to avoid it, since many bosses have such an attack.
Now for your consideration, perhaps you guys might be more skilled at playing than others? I’m quite envious that you had no problems finishing this content. Mechanics of the boss are one thing. Mechanics of the profession is one thing. Being good at what you do is something different.
The Queen’s Gauntlet is NOT for everyone. It was designed that way. Even those with fully geared lv 80 characters can’t do it. So unfortunately, if you can’t do it, you can’t do it. Move on to other content that would suit your play-style better.
Where do you need luck for Liadri? Please elaborate.
every part of the fight
/sigh
Again… just because you can’t do something, doesn’t mean it’s broken. Learn the mechanics to the boss. If you want to zerg her, you can, but it doesn’t guarantee a win.
If you stand on a red circle, I won’t say you’re unlucky. I would say “dodge out of it”. But, I’ll give you something. It would be very lucky if you were to beat her using failed tactics.
There has been a lot of confusion among some players as to what the Queen’s Gauntlet is. This is content that was intended to be hard and challenging, meaning that not everyone will be able to complete it. Are there flaws? Sure, I can name a few bugs that I’ve seen pop up. But overall, these fights are not “freebie achievement points”, especially Liadri. If you want to win, learn the mechanics of each boss.
Now, regarding the term “challenge”. In simple terms, it means a task that is difficult. In the real world, people will have their own definition of what is or is not difficult. To me, the Clocktower JP was pure bliss. To others, it was like scraping the bottom of your feet with sandpaper, then jumping into a pool of salt. In the game however, it applies the term “challenge” in the purest sense. The design of the Queen’s Gauntlet is to have each player use game mechanics to how they should be used. Movement to control enemies’ paths. Dodge to avoid strong hits. Tells like red circles or movements that show an attack is incoming.
While the content’s bosses have set mechanics, players are able to adjust their builds to counter them. Trait for more mobility, damage, or conditions. Weapon sets provide a variety of skills that you can combine with your Utility skills for combinations. Food buffs that supplement your stats. All this can help reduce the level of challenge, or increase it if doesn’t compliment the target boss mechanics.
Again I bring up the fact that not all players will be able to complete this challenge. Because one player may find it impossible to do doesn’t mean it’s broken (yes I know there are random bugs here and there). Patches and bug fixes aside, the main mechanics are still punishing for some. But remember, this is a challenge. A very kittene. Don’t expect Anet to lower the level of difficulty so that the Queen’s Gauntlet (or any other hard content) is less of a challenge. For full disclosure, I have yet to beat Liadri. I reserve the right to scream at my monitor if it’s hard, but I refuse to ask for an “easy button”. If I want my win, I’m going to earn it. So should everyone else.
Negated all of this by 1 shotting everything until last boss facerolling with minion master necro. No thought process at all just faceroll.
Got to last fight and got hit with the… welp… ya got no vigor/block/evade/invul/leap so guess what bub? Time to reroll a warrior. But guess what I do not have a warrior. All I got is necro and nothing else.
Just because I did it… doesn’t mean its fine. It doesn’t mean its challenging. It doesn’t mean kitten past the fact its a cheap/lazy/brainless activity favoring specific classes. The amount how much you can kitten it up there with guardian/warrior is simply mind blowing. Watching mesmer get tossed around by rifts left and right and still never dying is also hilarious.
Just for saying you did not do it “yet” and yet making this sort of statements judging how well something is made simply means you have either huge ego, your a rabid anet fan or you are trolling.
I’ve been forthcoming in all my posts. I did not kill her yet. But the key thing here is that I’m not complaining about it being broken. It’s hard. Dang hard. And if I end up not finishing it before it ends, sure I’ll be mad, but that also means I wasn’t meant to finish it.
My thread is partly to defend Anet’s decision to create content that is not for everyone. Every player can try, but not every player will win. On the flip side, I want to make sure people realize that just because they can’t complete hard content, it doesn’t mean it should be dumbed down so more people can do it.
I use the term “Easy Mode” or “Easy Button” a lot. That’s because there are people who complain that they want one.
Same word, different definitions. You could challenge me to a staring contest, but I would find that most challenging.
For the Queen’s Gauntlet, one of the preconditions is not to get hit by the big attacks. That is part of the challenge.
This is getting sad. The content would be broken if everyone wasn’t able to do it. The content is hard, so only the best players get to show off the mini. One does not equal the other.
yes you earn them after hard content, not broken content.
See below
The challenge is learning from your mistakes, and applying the knowledge to the situations as they present themselves.
If you can do something without trial and error, then it isn’t much of a challenge. And to be clear, I haven’t beaten Liadri yet, but at no point will I complain to Anet that it’s bad content simply because I can’t do it. I need to L2P, and with practice and repetition, I will.
The “Dodge” mechanic is straight forward. Double tap or key bind it, and the action happens. But you need to know how to dodge, and where to dodge to. If you dodge something, but roll off a ledge, or into AOE, you’ll still be in a world of hurt.
It’s only frustrating if you don’t learn from your mistakes or failures. But I find it fun to keep trying. If I time my dodge wrong, it’s still my fault, not Anet’s. The mechanics are the same each time I play. I just need to get better in paying attention to patterns and tells.
I agree that bugs make the fight difficult, and that the camera angles could be better. But 1 hit kills are a legitimate mechanic. If you’re like me, and dodge the wrong way (or wrong timing), you get punished. That’s not a failure on Anet’s part, it’s all on me.
Bugs suck. I’ve seen those bad ones with multiple enemies in one fight. But without bugs, this is still a good challenge. For instance, the very first boss on Tier 1, I didn’t know his attack would 1 shot me, so I would be meleeing him in front with my D/D Thief. I learned very quickly that I can’t do that.
New mechanics are really punishing to players that are used to only zerging hack and slash games. The Devs did a great job to make sure all types of character mechanics are in play here.
John is surely the “player’s Dev”!
1) RNG means Random Number Generator. There are not random numbers here. It’s called Mechanics. <puts on fallacy hat> It’s like saying there’s RNG in driving a car with manual transmission.
2) FPS means First Person Shooter. GW2 is not an FPS. <puts on fallacy hat> It’s like saying “I do well in Counter Strike, so I should do well in Tetris.”
3) I play this game for fun. Getting achievements is fun, esp. when you earn them after hard content.
you should find that merchant, buy 10,000 of them for 80c, then sell them on the TP for 1s8c for a 11g80s profit.
To be completely fair, I would sell for 1s7c if I saw that listing. The Trading Post is a type of PvP you know.
her aoes do not have a pattern ive done the fight enough times to see if it there was one.
Pattern of AoE:
Phase 1:
You are placed in a random spot in the arena, however, the light field is always in the same spot. 1st AoE is on opposite side of light field, 2nd AoE is on light field (forms a / in turns 1 and 2). After that the AoE goes adjacent then opposite again (forms a \ in turns 3 and 4). The AoE then cycles in that exact same order until phase 1 is over. Light fields and bombs always spawn in the same spots, only thing RNG is where the rifts spawn (the time in which they spawn is not RNG), which, if you’re paying attention to, you will always have enough time to kill before they pull.
Phase 2:
AoE now covers 2 spots rather than 1. Always forms an hour glass (forms a / in first turn, forms a \ in second turn). The safe spot it always where the AoE just landed and the danger spot is where it was just safe.
that is wrong, iv’e watched enough fights and done enough to know those light fields and mobs spawn in random places hell you can watch people do it for long enough to see that, not to mention those aoes are completely random they do not have a pattern.
this fight is completely RNG based
the second phase is more predictable but those safe areas aren’t safe with most likely 5 1 shot adds and some crazy chick spamming med range cripples, in the same area and not to mention 9 times out of 10 those adds are gonna hug her, and not to mention the random spawning light portals don’t help at all.
it be great if the light portals decreased the damage of the 1 shot instakill attacks but they don’t the only use they have on the second phase is if you’re going after the 8 crystal achievement.not to mention the add will explode and throw you, and kill you if your standing somewhat in the portal when they hit because they don’t hit the hitbox soon enough.
there is no pattern on this fight other than the 2 insta kill fields on the second phase.
Perhaps the light fields look like they are in different locations, because you’re moving around?
If you are facing the north side of the dome, it will look like it starts on the right. If you are facing the south side of the dome, it will look like it starts on the left. So I can fully understand why you think this fight has no set mechanics. But when you learn to play it, you’ll be fine!
Honestly, it’s ok to complain that it’s hard. I don’t like getting 1 shot as well, but that only adds to the challenge, and will make it even sweeter when I finally beat her. But it’s another thing to demand nerfs because others can do it, but you can’t. That’s where I was going with this.
Side note – Knowing the right time to dodge isn’t luck based. The only thing I would consider to be luck based is how close the orbs spawn to you. If you’re close enough, you might be able to kill them before they pull you.
But… how else will I make money on the TP?

What possessed you to dig up a 9 month old thread, and then respond it it as if it’s a current issue?

People expected something other than OHKO and perma-KD from Anet?
HAHAHAHAHAHA.
That’s all Anet knows how to kittening do. It’s so pathetic. They are TERRIBLE at encounter design. Have been since launch. The encounters in this update are par for the course as well.
I hate this gauntlet as much as anybody else but let’s be fair. There have been some better bosses like the F&F ones. Fun, challenging and rewarding. That’s the way a boss fight should be done.
When I finished Liadri what I felt wasn’t satisfaction over having completed an awesome fight. It was satisfaction knowing I’d never have to do it again. To me this is the telltale sign of a poorly designed fight.
You’re misinterpreting “poorly designed” from “really challenging”. If you beat her, that means you learned how her mechanics work. So congratulations! But to complain that she was too hard is a bit much. This content was made specifically so that only the best players could finish it.
What I’m getting from this thread is: Content is too hard. Please make it easier so I can get my mini.
Tara Strong was also the voice of Bubbles from the Powerpuff Girls!
cough
Ok, back to the topic at hand ^^
She also does Twilight Sparkle from MLP. I heard this from a friend of course.
She’s also Harley in Arkham City.
I’m starting to like this Tara even more!
We are looking into what happened today. Captain Culling thinks he has found the culprit, but regardless we will fix this as soon as we can.
Processor! RAM! Vid Card! Ethernet! Heatsink! By your powers combined…
Why? It’s simple, really. GW2 is not farming friendly, and it punishes us for farming, honest farming. Prices on some Pre’s are outrageously high, and even more so since it’s almost impossible to farm in this game without Anet using the infamous Nerf gun to cripple our efforts.
I’m not saying that pre’s should be 100g, or even 200g, but having them 500+ is a bit too far.
Especially since the journey to getting a Legendary is already one long, agonizing journey with the amount of hardcore RNG+DR, getting those mats would take forever.
I’m not sure if people who have 2+ Legendaries simply got super lucky at the Forge, or chests? Or they actually spent $500+ to convert to gold and just buy out everything needed.
1. Precursors that don’t sell are overpriced. Precursors that do sell are not as evidenced by the fact that someone bought them.
2. If someone lists a Precursor at 500 gold and gets it, then it isn’t too far.
3. The Mystic Forge is your best chance at getting a Precursor. Farming is subject to DR while the Forge is not. If you want a specific Pre, here is the process:
A. Check the cost to buy the materials to make an exotic weapon of the same type.
B. Check the cost to buy the materials to make a rare weapon of the same type and multiply by 5.
C. Check the cost of the cheapest rares and exotic weapons of the same type on the TP.
D. Determine which of the above (A-C) is the cheapest route.
E. Use the cheapest route to acquire weapons to throw into the MF.
To add to this – no one should be blaming the game for Precursor prices, since it’s we players who set them. Midnattsol should be blaming us instead.

With this in mind, I really wish Anet would allow the TP to take in orders with 4 digits, meaning up to 9,999. That would save so much time when placing Buy Orders in bulk.
Then I would submit a tech support ticket.
I didn’t share it on purpose. Regardless, you are allowed to share it with one minor child.
No. You aren’t allowed to share the account. If you made the account for a minor, it’s theirs to play.
But back to your situation. If the child (or anyone else), accessed your account/did something without your permission on your PC, the Account Restoration doesn’t apply. Anet Support needs to determine if the request is for a clearly hacked account, or simply because someone made a bad choice in game. In your case, because it was done in house, there’s no way to tell if someone else really did hack your account, or if you’re just making that up because of a personal mistake.
The Clocktower was one of the greatest releases of Anet. Your thread title speaks volumes to why Liadri is so awesome, and more of the same needs to be provided in each bi-weekly update.
There are two kinds of challenging. The clocktower, and Liadri are not the good kind of challenging.
If anet insists on introducing more of these twitch reflex muscle memory puzzles where the only way to win is through trial and error, I don’t think I’ll stick around.
If you can do something without trial and error, then it isn’t much of a challenge. And to be clear, I haven’t beaten Liadri yet, but at no point will I complain to Anet that it’s bad content simply because I can’t do it. I need to L2P, and with practice and repetition, I will.
If you can’t do something without trial and error, where exactly is the challenge?
The challenge is learning from your mistakes, and applying the knowledge to the situations as they present themselves.
The kind of “challenge” that Liadri presents is not fun nor is it engaging. It is an exercise in frustration.
Here’s a for instance. Ozma from FFIX was challenging, but was also fun to fight. Chocobo racing for the sun sigil in FFX was more challenging than Ozma, but was more frustrating than fun. Liadri is more like chocobo racing than Ozma.
It’s only frustrating if you don’t learn from your mistakes or failures. But I find it fun to keep trying. If I time my dodge wrong, it’s still my fault, not Anet’s. The mechanics are the same each time I play. I just need to get better in paying attention to patterns and tells.
“Can someone please explain to me that if you understand how to dodge, how are you still getting 1-shotted?
On the flip side, if I’m able to constantly dodge a strong attack, and another player isn’t, does that mean I’m more skilled or more lucky?”(Don’t know how to do several quotes in one post)
Just a small note, I’m not complaining about any of the bosses, but dodging does not necessarily mean you won’t get hit by the 1HKO. Most of them require mechanics to avoid (Stepping in the AoE during the Blazing Light fight, for example.)
The “Dodge” mechanic is straight forward. Double tap or key bind it, and the action happens. But you need to know how to dodge, and where to dodge to. If you dodge something, but roll off a ledge, or into AOE, you’ll still be in a world of hurt.

Use dodge. You know the thing where your player rolls on the ground?
So here’s another one of those smart comments. Sick of hearing this a swell. Doge, dodge, auto attack crap! Just cut it out will you! you guys are making me really annoyed with this crap. I’ve been playing since beta, i got 9x lvl 80.s, my latest one a ranger is reached equivalent to 120 lvls with 0 deaths. So yea, I don’t know what dodge si, as i’m sure most gw2 players don’t, so why don’t you tell us all about it!
Can someone please explain to me that if you understand how to dodge, how are you still getting 1-shotted?
On the flip side, if I’m able to constantly dodge a strong attack, and another player isn’t, does that mean I’m more skilled or more lucky?
Ah well maybe one of these days we’ll actually get some expansion to this game, that wold be nice for a change.
New content every 2 weeks seems like a good expansion to me. That way, I don’t have to wait 6 months to a year for something new.
This belongs in the Tech Support forums.
I had this same problem a few weeks ago. Logging out didn’t fix it. You have to close the GW2.exe and reopen it. After I did that, my guild and team chats started working again.
The elitism in here can be cut with a quaggan flipper…
That’s interesting, since quaggans don’t have flippers.
edit – Oh! I get it now. You’re saying elitism is only illusionary!
While “dodge/evade” isn’t on the skill bar, skill is still required to use it properly. So is moving around while using skills on the skill bar. Guild Wars 1 required you to stand in place while casting.
this thread…
its going back and forth. forever.

I see what you did there…
A few days ago some lad was whining and begging how ancient bones were so expensive, and kept spamming “WTB ancient bones 10s”.
Of course, he got massive kitten thrown at him after an hour or so.
The great thing about this item is I won’t have to deal with all these LA peasants!
Remember folks. Lion’s Arch was founded by pirates, for pirates. Those of us who are wealthy and of high class, we deserve much better :P
Come. Let us enjoy some tea, and discuss flipping on the TP in our private VIP area!
Hate to break it to you, but your main concern is a fallacy. This is known as a “Slippery Slope” argument and it is illogical.
What other companies may have done is 100% irrelevant.
You are basically arguing that since Germany invaded Poland during WW2, Poland should be prepared to defend against an invasion from Kenya since Kenya is having a deep recession.
Well played, good sir. Well played…
Good day sir!
It is of concern that our market for t6 materials, especially Vial of Powerful Blood has crashed!
Alas, if only we could short-sell in this game.
Nonetheless, my wealthy friends and I are considering creating a false, artificial price for bloods by constantly undercutting by 1s to the point where we can make significant profit when prices return to normal. Devious I must say, but well worth it!
We mustn’t discuss here further, for the plebians may catch on to us! To the Royal Terrace!
Digress!
You are my all time favorite forum warrior!
But just to add, I’ll be investing in about 400 Gold’s worth of stuff today, with an estimated 300% return within a month. I’m sure our friend Mr. Smith is looking at today’s game stats report, and will probably be doing something tomorrow. I think they underestimated how hardcore the hardcore players are at farming.
Because marketing in videos games is pretty much the same thing that waging world wars.
Hate to break it to you, but your main concern is a fallacy. This is known as a “Slippery Slope” argument and it is illogical.
No it isn’t.You are arguing that Kenya will invade Poland because they are having a recession.
Your entire argument is fixed on the justification that Germany invaded Poland because they had a recession and now everyone who has a recession will be invading Poland. That is an example of your argument, with only the terms being changed.
You are arguing that ArenaNet will go P2W because they are adding a new gem store exclusive. Your entire argument is fixed on the justification that “insert other MMO company” went P2W after adding new “gem store” items and thus every MMO company will go P2W after adding new “gem store” items.
Your entire premise is a fallacy and is illogical.
er. slippery slopes are a fallacy at times, sure, but that doesnt mean all slippery slopes are a fallacy. Anyone who’s observed games like DDO or LoTRO can tell you their f2p model has gotten progressively more abusive and money grabbing as players have taken any slight overreach theyve tried and continued buying anyhow.
Did you just use a fallacy to justify a fallacy?

Give us our Abaddon, and I’ll consider congratulating Kiel…
Here’s the thing. This new fractal will basically be a watered down version of CoE. Not to mention, if this was so important to GW2 lore, do you think they’d just abandon it? The Fall of Abaddon is not important for the way GW2 is headed. The Thumanova Reactor apparently is.
What this means is that even if Evon won, we’d get both eventually – because we’d get the one that was voted in (Abaddon) and then since the reactor is so important, we’d eventually get that too. Now we’ll only see the one.
I don’t know why we have to fight the Fire Ele again. I fight him at least once a day already. Such a sad day for Evon supporters.
I voted for Kiel because I hate RNG boxes with a passionate loathing and I didn’t want to encourage the developers to think the majority of players have much interest in them.
Evidently they don’t. Hurrah!
I pray to the Six that you will forever have bad RNG.
People voted for the incompetent Mary Sue. Let them reap what they have sewn.
But most of the people who voted for Kiel don’t do Fractals. I can tell, since they can barely afford to pay WP costs.
RIP Abaddon…
There is no good side. Kiel only won because most players saw her as a pretty face.
This. Reduced waypoint costs? Let me know how it feels to save 10s over the next 4 weeks.
Indeed. I make 10+ silver in a second off of the TP.
