Uhm…if you see a dead person who isn’t releasing, in light armor…instead of running around looking for the thief, why not stand on top of the corpse, swinging a weapon. I’ve done that for ten minutes before.

Pile flame ram prints on them is funny too.

No. You BUILD the ram on him. Then you spam 2.

I think that with the update that slightly changed how the event progresses, the Champion loot is scaling. If you only do minor damage to them, you may not get loot credit or XP credit. Glancing shots are so minor, that you’d probably have to constantly attack from start to finish, and pray you accumulate enough total damage.

That said, Invasions in lower level maps would be much easier for her character.

You have to actually attack Champions (with enough damage) to get Exotic loot. You can’t just stand there AFK, or attack simple mobs. And you can’t simply just tag them. Attack them like you’re trying to kill them, and you’ll get your good loot.

Interesting link: Into The Pixel 2013 Winners – ArenaNet Teases Something Big
http://www.awesome-robo.com/2013/06/into-pixel-2013-winners-arenanet-teases.html

Now in it’s tenth year, the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) and The Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences (AIAS) just announced this years lineup of winning pieces for their yearly Into The Pixel competition, which honors the best art from professional concept artists in the industry. Featuring a mix of production art and game concepts I was intrigued to find a winning piece among the entries for a completely unannounced title, the above piece from Daniel Dociu, the art director of Arenanet and Guild Wars 2. Titled ‘Crossroads,’ the piece is attached to an unannounced project, featuring an impossibly vertical futuristic city with a distinctly Asian flair.

As much as that looks like a snapshot of a modern Asian city, I don’t think it’s related to Cantha. It looks a little too modern to me. Or at least, it doesn’t quite fit with how I personally have viewed Cantha after 250 years. Sure, it could potentially be more advanced than Tyria since they seemed to have the better end of the deal against dragons and all, but I can’t see them being like a 1950’s steampunk Tokyo vs Tyria that’s like, early 1400’s?

If that’s what they’re making modern day Cantha to be, I say “YES PLEASE!”

Look, there’s no point in arguing if I can’t convince you. You basically made a long repost of what the 2nd and 3rd posters have already said. So really there’s nothing to be said hence it’s rhetoric. You can justify all you want but 75+ people agree with me whereas there’s 3 that don’t. Im done here.

75+ people can agree with you, but if you want a weapon skin that I’m offering, you pay my price. That, or you need to wait for one of my competitors to undercut me. That’s how the current market works.

I suggest that you let us Trading Post players compete with each other, and then watch the price stabilize. That’s what happened with the Jade skins. I’m sure with time, and more competition, prices will surely come down. But if there’s still a large discrepancy between your price and our price, then there’s nothing much else that can be done.

Edit – I just had an idea on how we can help you understand this situation. Think of us like stores. There are a few stores that have a product available for sale. The only other way you can get the product without paying Gems is to buy it from us. We (stores) want your business (Gold), so we will compete by offering the product for less than the other stores. As we have a Price War among ourselves, the prices will slowly drop. Then you can decide which store to buy it from, based on the lowest offered price.

Amulet infusions a failure?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Smooth Penguin.5294

Smooth Penguin.5294

With the recent nerfs to how bosses drop silver and now karma consumables not benefiting from boosters/other things, that has severely nerfed 2 of the 4 current amulet infusions. Soon MF wont even exist so that will take out another infusion one that I use personally making 3/4 of the infusions very bad or perhaps even worthless. This wouldn’t be as big of an issue if these infusions did not cost 20 laurels to purchase but they do. Anet what are your plans regarding these infusions, I and several others are wondering if it is even worth it to purchase these as there is always the possibility of them being nerfed even further…

How are they failures? They are all still working as intended. +Gold, +Karma, etc. Just because they aren’t working as you want them to, doesn’t mean the whole system ceased to provide the applied bonuses. We had this same conversation when CoF runners complained about their +Gold infusions with the Dungeon change. Only the Magic Find one is the one that will be changed, and they did say they’re looking at different options on how to treat current MF gear when the change hits.

Wut.

I think your problem isn’t with RNG, but simply with the difficulty of obtaining said weapon skin….

I’m pretty sure you won’t be happy if they sold the skins for a flat rate of 7500 gems.

Im not happy. Thats why I made the thread….http://www.reactionface.info/sites/default/files/imagecache/Node_Page/images/1314029819767.png
Its like you didnt even read the thread. People are selling it for 7500. I and many others wanted the devs 5 months ago to sell it for the same price as the winters on release day, which was 500. Now that they’re re-releasing the skins they can take it out of BLC. Its not like they CAN’T do it. They did it for wintersday.

I’ll follow up with a different question then: If you had said weapon skin, and sold it for 250 Gold, would you still be complaining?

Would I be here on the forums if I hadn’t? You’re asking really rhetorical questions now.

Devs please.

No, that question is completely valid. People are selling things on the Trading Post for what they feel it’s worth. On a related end, people are posting Buy Orders for what they feel it’s worth. You keep forgetting that this is an open market run by players. If I have something that another player really really wants, and not many other players have said item, do you really think I’m going to sell it cheap?

So basically, you have a few options. Either you buy one for the listed price on the TP, wait for the listed available skin prices to come down, or place a Buy Order and wait for it to be filled.

Going further, if the listed Buy Orders are still out of your acceptable price range, that means whatever value you perceive these items to be is much too low (and unacceptable to others).

Live Events unfair to new players?

in Clockwork Chaos

Posted by: Smooth Penguin.5294

Smooth Penguin.5294

So I have being playing the game since the head start, or even the Beta however I still haven’t explored 100% of the world, so some of these events are either hidden from me or I am forced to travel somewhere I have not been.

For example the *25 balloon rides" part of the quest forced me to explore 3 new area’s and now these portals appeared in 2 area’s that I cannot see/find because I have no visited those area’s and have no clue where to look.

Don’t me wrong the guys with 100% exploration should be able to go to those area’s in these event if they wish but the events should also include at least 1 commonly unlocked area.

What do you think?

Let me respond to your title question with a couple of my own:

I made a brand new character, and spent 10 minutes to get through the opening cinematics and battle.

1) Is it fair that I can’t explore and farm Orr with my level 1?

I want to fight and kill Zhaitan with my new level 1.

2) Is it fair that I need to complete the Story Mode in order to get to the final boss battle?

Still no reliable way to get Lodestones

in Crafting

Posted by: Smooth Penguin.5294

Smooth Penguin.5294

While the Lodestone drops are RNG based, the Invasion maps provide so much opportunity to get them. Over the course of 45 minutes per map, my average Exotic chest drop is about 40. That number includes all types of Champion loot (existing mob, Aetherblade, Clockwork, Molten, etc). But there are other bags that drop Lodestones too. So on a high level Invasion map, go ahead and add another 30+ loot bags. You have 70 chances each hour to get a Lodestone. RNG is RNG, so you may walk away with nothing. But with more chances to get them, Lodestones are no longer ultra rare. They fell a tier down to simple rare. This is how I’ve been able to get so many Lodestones and Cores daily this past week.

And the evidence on the TP is overwhelming. All my Lodestones have plummeted in value (maybe more than 33%). I need to wait a long time before the value goes back my acceptable levels of trade.

All you need to do is ask yourself the following question: Does this program do something that I would normally be unable to do in game? In your case, ask yourself: Am I normally able to play in 1st person view without zoom unlocker?

You are still modifying the game beyond what the set limitations are. It doesn’t matter if it’s PvE or WvW. So basically, using anything like that opens you up for a possible perma-ban. And because there are a lot of people who try to justify usage, I’ll rephrase my point (because it’s a very very important one): If a program allows you to play the game in a way that was not intended by Anet, that would be breaking their rules.

I don’t know what Anet’s methods are to detect usage of programs like this, but if you value your game, I wouldn’t use it.

That is 15 TIMES MORE gold than their actual price. I know everyone needs to make some profit, but the gold price is just inconceivable.

Please take the fused skins out of the BLC.

My Plea: stop pre-releasing info to fansites

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Smooth Penguin.5294

Smooth Penguin.5294

A couple of things to consider. From a business point of view, having fansites promote your game helps to not only keep current players updated and informed, but also advertises to other people on their sites who don’t play GW2. This marketing push helps to bring in new players, thus new revenue. Take Dulfy’s site. She talk about other games there too. It’s not like she does this for the freebies.

Another thing is that the internets will always have someone who will post spoilers, tips, or walkthroughs. I still remember going through text based walkthroughs from gamefaqs for Dynasty Warriors. No videos or pictures. We’re talking archaic notepad views that had no search funcion.

So if players want to know something in advance, or learn about boss mechanics, let them. If they blaze through content, just remember that we get new stuff ever 2 weeks. It’s not like they’ll get bored that fast.

Possibility GW2 Never Gets Full Expansion

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Smooth Penguin.5294

Smooth Penguin.5294

Not everyone will stick around to wait for an expansion.

To be fair, the Living Story isn’t keeping every single player, either. There are as many things to dislike about temporary content as there is to dislike about long waits, although many an MMO has done well without bimonthly minigames.

One of the higher ups (not Colin, I believe Mike Z) said a few months back that their internal metrics show that the playerbase plays more with bi-weekly releases than monthly releases. That’s why they announced the rate of content releases.

And now we have confirmation today from Mr Cartwright that the playerbase is on the rise

http://www.polygon.com/2013/8/23/4650486/guild-wars-2-player-base-is-on-the-rise-after-post-launch-slump

So I think Living Story is more of a success than a failure that is portrayed around here

I would agree with their research, as I’m a player who likes to blaze through new content fast, thus forcing myself to slow down, or else I’ll have nothing to do until the next month. With a bi-weekly release, I’ll constantly have something to do.

Guild Wars Heroic Edition

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Smooth Penguin.5294

Smooth Penguin.5294

Was having this conversation elsewhere, so I figure I’d share it here:

In the business world, companies sometimes add incentives to draw new customers. It happens all the time. Bought a car a year ago, but this year’s model has parking assist. If I want that new feature, I need to pay to upgrade by getting the newer version of my same car. Same with GW2 accounts. You have last year’s model, and you’re free to upgrade if you wish.

Is this fair? I guess that depends on the person’s own views on things. But one could also argue that if you waited a year to purchase the game, you could have gotten all these bonuses from the time you start playing.

Except that a car is not a video game. I understand where you’re coming from, but it’s like comparing, well, video games to cars, really. Two totally different things. I would love to get the Heroic edition, but since I’ve got the Digital Deluxe Edition (and that would come with the stuff found in the Heroic Edition), I’d love to be able to get those things as well. That’s my opinion, anyway.

They are different things yes, but I’m speaking in terms of business in general. You got your game at a time when you wanted it, and paid xx price for it. If they lowered the price in a promotion 6 months later, we’re not entitled to a refund of the difference. Just as if there’s a promotion 1 year later. We’re not entitled to the extras just because.

As with my car example, the same applies. Or think about it like computers. CPUs are constantly being upgraded and refined (dual core, quad core, octo core?). Should a company offer a free PC upgrade each year they bring out a newer version of the same model? Just food for thought.

If by tp trading you mean market manipulation, well I just don’t see that as an aspect of the game most are intended to play on the level of wall street mogul. Yes it exists and isn’t discouraged but I didn’t buy this game to watch a market and micromanage my investments in that market. To me that just doesn’t seem fun when I could be running about killing enemies in PvE, W3 or spvp.

Investments which I couldn’t make if I didn’t farm the initial gold to make those investments with. So two options, farming and trading but my real point is that a third option not tied into the economy for a personal (account bound) high end reward would be welcomed by some. I don’t begrudge farmers or traders their profits for those endeavors, I’d just simply like more options to exist. If they actually had some kind of story connection to my characters, I’d consider that a genuinely appropriate aspect to a supposedly story driven MMO.

TP trading, as in Buying and Selling, is far different from “Market Manipulation”.

Farmers and Moral Superiority

in Clockwork Chaos

Posted by: Smooth Penguin.5294

Smooth Penguin.5294

Ursan is correct with regards to the economy. I shared that concern as well, even though I was one of the farmers making money. There’s a balance that needs to be there so that Gold Output and Gold Sinks keep Inflation in check. The last few weeks of updates has really tipped the scale of Gold Output to levels not seen before. Let’s not forget that Kiel’s victory caused a reduction in WP Gold Sinks, thus contributing a tiny tiny bit to the equation (my little Evon plug for the day).

But going to the core of the argument of what’s “fun”. Each player sees this differently. PvE has farmers and even completers. PvP has WvW PPT players and GvG enthusiasts. To the extreme of one side, they like to throw words like “hacker” or “exploiter” at the other, in an attempt to justify their positions. I feel I need to point out that Guild Wars 2 is a game for different types of people.

Going futher, as others in this thread have posted, it’s not an “exploit” to farm. In another thread, one poster kept equating us farmers to players banned for the Snowflake exploit. This is an unfair comparison, because on one hand, players did something that Anet didn’t intent (Snowflake crafts producing more output than what should have been). On the other hand, players farming or killing only Champions are doing exactly what those enemies were put out for, to be killed.

To clarify, Invasion events have a purpose – to be cleared. As with all events and missions, that’s is indeed Anet’s intended goal for players. However, not all players on the map are killing mobs and Champions for the event itself. If the farming players’ goal is to just farm, they are still playing within the game’s overall intended design – to have fun. Just because they’re doing it in opposite of another player’s goal, does not equal “exploit”.

This is an MMO. There isn’t one single way to play it. Players have a choice as to what they want to do for fun. I’m sure Anet will never put an event in the open world that forces players to either complete it or leave the map.

Yeah yeah, I’m reading way too much into this. But what the hell right?

Edit: Well apparently sylvari don’t have “childhoods”. I still wonder if she was “born” like this right from the start, or did something happen to her to make it so…

Anet is showing that they care about all player types by releasing challenging content like Liadri, and fun content like Scarlet’s battles and banter (with an epic choice of voice actress to boot). Both these fights require players to use different types of mechanics, as to not just be a straight forward hack and slash. But speaking for the minority of players who actually love unforgiving challenges, the Devs should consider combining two elements that would make for a challenge beyond Liadri: Scarlet battle at the end of the Clocktower JP!

Since Scarlet isn’t dead (and most likely our personal nemesis), along with the fact that October is around the corner, Anet should make her take over the Mad King’s tower, and force us players to have to climb it in order to fight her. Any defeat would send players back to the bottom to retry. Once they do this, you’ll have a fight on the scale of epicness never before seen in game!

On a side note. To be fair for all players who don’t like challenging content, perhaps access to this fight could be a Gem Store only key. Then any achievement and mini award would be free from criticism.

So today I’m going to do a bunch of Jumping Puzzles while the invasion is going on. Show me what rules I’ll be breaking, and I’ll stop.

Do you want to see something interesting? Take a look at the rules of the game. Show me which rule were the Snowflake exploiters breaking, and which rule were the Cultural weapon exploiters breaking.

And comparing jumping puzzles to intentionally stalling an event: well, using a somewhat poor metaphor I have read recently, “apples and jalapenos.”

You have yet to explain how my doing of Jumping Puzzles on Invasion maps is an exploit. I’m still waiting.

Sure, answer my previous post. I’m greatly amused at the kind of excuses you people like to use thinking you will get away with them.

Actually, I already did. You just skipped my entire rebuttal because I made sense. Now you’re avoiding my follow up question because you know for a fact that you’re misusing the term “exploiter” to label people like me who don’t play the game your way.

This whole exercise has been to just inform you that using a negative word in the wrong way doesn’t help your case. You can flame and troll me all you want. The fact will remain that I’m not “exploiting” the game by not doing the quest you’re doing.

Now that this is settled, I’ll be skipping the JPs, and rejoining the zerg where I belong.

I can’t be banned for playing the game as it was intended.

And joining an event doing everything in your power to fail it or stall it is the opposite of playing the game as it was intended. Saying otherwise is the same as the Snowflake exploiters claiming they weren’t exploiting because they were just salvaging items, or the Cultural weapon exploiters trying to defend themselves claiming they were just buying stuff from a random merchant.

All of those are excuses. And poor ones at that.

Again, apples and jalapenos. You keep trying to show examples of an exploit, when they are completely different examples. I’ll repost my reply to you, since you skipped to only the part you wanted to read:

Please don’t compare apples to jalapenos.

For the snowflake exploit, Anet didn’t intend on an item being able to produce more than what it should have, when it was salvaged. By using BL kits, you have a 100% chance to get back your material, plus a chance at bonus. It’s like taking a hot dog (1 hot dog + 1 bun), smashing it with a hammer, and getting two full hot dogs plus your bun back. THAT is an exploit.

For the Invasion maps, this is PvE. You have a choice to do it, or not. If I want to do the Claw of Jormag while the invasion is going on around me, I can. Might not be successful soloing it, but the point is that is my choice. If I want to do a Jumping Puzzle instead of fighting mobs, and by doing so I’m taking up a map slot, that’s my choice. I can’t be banned for playing the game as it was intended.

So there you have it. Hopefully this will help people who insist on throwing around misused terms.

Wouldn’t mass farming bring the price down since supply would be so high?

Not all the time. You must factor in demand, which is something we really can’t just put a number on (you can’t just look at the Buy Orders). With more Supply of a desired item, that could draw more people to entering the market. These are people who had no intention of buying these items until recently. So an item may look like it increased 10 fold with the current farming, but the demand for the item increased 20 fold.

My initial response was meant that the farming might have cause a downward spike in price, but then speculators bumped the prices back up big time.

The snowflake exploiters used very similar arguments, eight months ago.

ArenaNet intended for players to try to complete the dynamic events. Intentionally failing or stalling an event in order to farm, while being detrimental to other players, is playing the game in a way that has not been intended. Ergo, exploit.

I haven’t seen a single exploiter actually admiting he/she was exploiting. I do love some of the excuses they bring up, though.

Please don’t compare apples to jalapenos.

From Josh Davis – Anet QA Team member

Only newly obtained skins in select sets are tradable. In the past, we intended those skins to be account-bound and not tradable. After the change, these skins will remain account-bound and not tradable. We will continue to monitor the value of those skins, but at this time, there is no plan to make tradability retroactive.

I think he was talking about an internal buff. The game triggers it and watches your progress with a 15 minute timer. If you don’t beat the timer, it simply doesn’t credit you.

So as a helpful tip, as soon as your close the portal, rush/WP to the next one. I suggest one that has a Commander tag on it, to maximize the amount of players helping.

Still no reliable way to get Lodestones

in Crafting

Smooth Penguin.5294

Lodestones are easy to acquire now. My personal rate of return is about 2 per invasion map, or roughly 45 minutes of play. While they are still rare, they’re so much easier to get.

Same thing with the arguments about CoE: “oh, it gives one Charged Lodestone per run”, meanwhile I have a character in CoE armor and I got no Core or Lodestone drop from there.

Do you know what that is?

RNG.

“Reliable”, in many ways, is the opposite of RNG in this game.

The fact that you don’t want to put effort into getting them is akin to asking for Anet to just mail you a stack.

Here, here, I’ll repeat it for players who are afraid others will get their shiny loot:

I wish ArenaNet would introduce a reliable way to get the Lodestones, even if it’s a very slow one. Receiving one in exchange for 10 laurels? Receiving one (per week per account) after doing one of the Orr Temple events? Even if slow (even the most expensive of them goes at most for 2.5 gold, and people who want to can make far more than that in 10 days or in a week), at least it would be reliable, and wouldn’t require using the TP.

You just mixed the terms “RNG” and “RELIABLE” in the same argument. So in essence, you just answered your own quoted question.

edit – Just to add, Lodestones are not tokens. They are a high level material, like Powerful Bloods and Armored Scales. Just wanted to be sure you understand that. So to simplify the argument at hand, the only “reliable” way to get a T6 mat is to fight monsters and hope for drops. And the more drops you get, the more chances you have at getting a rare item.

Honestly, how is it an exploit to kill a Champ? People keep saying “exploit this” or" exploit that". It’s like saying the Liadri fight is based on luck. All we’re doing is playing a game. Where does it say that we’re forced to follow dynamic events as they occur? If my personal goal is to kill a Champion class enemy, that’s called a “choice”, not an “exploit”. If in the course of killing a Champion while the invasion is going on, players should be thanking us for helping them get rid of an enemy, not yelling and calling us names.

I want legendary food… THINK ABOUT IT! Aura and Particle Effects without having to waste my weapon slot!

With new Legendary foods, esp. ones made by an asura, the most you’ll likely get is the ability to taste colors.

I believe there’s plenty need for adaptation with Liadri (i.e. when to dodge, where to dodge, etc). While the patterns are there, you still need to fight the main boss plus ADDs that explode on you. No bot program would be able to handle the multiple scenarios presented in each fight.
