Can someone point out in the rules that says Gem Store purchases are required?
You are paying for a convenience. An optional one at that. Previously, if you Transmuted an item, you lost one in order to combine the stats and looks. With that said, the release of this item can only have a positive outlook: Being able to do something you couldn’t undo in the past.

Sorry about the confusion folks! Curtis and I examined how everything is set up and the type of salvage kit does NOT affect the amount of Essence of Luck that you get. Please do enjoy your Copper-fed Salvage-O-Matic without any fears of it not giving you the standard amount of Essence of Luck that any salvage kit will produce!
I believe the OP’s talking about the free Gems. And yeah, those free Gems were ONLY for the Beta, and was mainly to test their eCommerce system. All us Beta Testers bought the game and started fresh, as with everyone else.
The real perk of being a Beta Tester was mainly to get our hands on the product before it went live. That’s pretty much it.
Completionists are obsessed with having full lists, much like having the dinner fork perfectly straight on the table, or the window curtains closed up in uniform folds. There’s no “valid reason” for wanting things completed or made perfect, but they have a need to do so, thus it’s “their reason”. While Completionists have their own reason to complain, they are in the minority of whom this change will affect. I see this approach as the lesser of two evils. But allow me to explain why this actually HELPS Completionists.
Being a Completionist with an incomplete list is like having a horse race with no horse. So with the Crafting Levels being bumped to 500, these people will have the urge to fill the lists again. And as we all know, crafting with a discovered recipe gives far less Crafting XP than an undiscovered recipe. So if Anet did not make this change, Completionists would be compelled to spend a lot of extra money just to level from 400 to 500. Rare crafting does not give any XP once you reach lv 400, so that means only Exotic recipes will work. Imagine all the Ecto, Orichalcum, Ancient Logs, and T6 mats that would be needed to make this for three weapon disciplines (Weaponsmith, Huntsman, and Artificer). Then later in the year, new armor crafting will go through the same issues.
So while you have the right to complain that your lists will no longer be filled, please consider the fact that Anet did everyone a favor by resetting the discoveries.
There seems to be a few people who don’t understand how this works. I’ve posted about it in the past, but the search function doesn’t seem to be working.
If you make a purchase from a vendor, you cannot ask for a refund from another. That is pretty straight forward. The problem people are having is that they’re not seeing the separation of Anet’s online store (the vendor), and Anet as the game’s developer.
Anet makes the game for NCSoft, so yes all game codes come from them. However, once they distribute the product to other vendors for resale, the vendor who resold it (in this case – Amazon) is responsible for transaction. Vendors purchase the product from Anet at a wholesale price, and they in turn sell it for retail value to make a profit. By directly asking Anet to refund the purchase, would you be asking them to lose money (the wholesale cost + markup retail value).
An example of this could be like buying a car. Say you have a Toyota Camary that you bought from a dealership (vendor). You don’t like the car and would like to return it. So where do you go to ask for a refund? Would you contact Toyota, the manufacturer of the car, or the dealership that sold you the car?
tl;dr answer – No, you cannot ask Anet to refund a purchase that wasn’t made through their online site: https://buy.guildwars2.com/en/
I would like to step in and offer a compromise for all the Completionists. The main reason for this complaint is that you’ll no longer have a crafting screen that’s full, am I correct? If this is the case, there’s a solution that can save you from having to repurchase all the materials from the TP – Screencaps!
A lot of the players who are complaining have nothing to gain from filling their crafting screens, save for the feeling of knowing you did it. So by taking a screencap of your achievements of perfect crafting discoveries, you’ll be able to still enjoy that feeling, even after the discoveries are reset.
Out of curiosity, what percentage of the active population do you think are aware of the amount and type of materials needed to craft ascended weapons?
The only percentage that matters are the ones who are the ones who play the market. It’s because they’re the ones who speculate, thus throw prices all over the place. As more people learn about required mats over time, the market will level out to what we view as acceptable prices.
You’re right about the new Goldsinks. Crafting to 500, and salvaging Exotics to get rare mats are going to be hugely expensive. I wasn’t expecting this when John confirmed he had plans to address the current month’s Gold making events. We do have a few days before the patch hits, so it’s time to farm farm farm!
Yeah things will get pretty expensive, though there is still some exotics on the TP that give great value, at the time of this posting , “Scepter of the Highborn” is a good investment at 1.5g, with a BL salvage kit you can recoup around 1.3g from the sigil and have a good chance to walk away with some ecto’s, it has some risk but it’s minimal in comparison to other items.
There is hope that when I craft my Exotics, and then salvage them, I’ll recoup at least a high percentage of the Ecto that I used. So I don’t anticipate losing too many Ectos from this. Other crafting material is a completely different story. Orichalcum and Ancient Wood is gonna be very valuable/pricey. Things like Ruby Orbs are already high priced. And I’m sure that all low end T6 mats have had their prices spike since this blog was released. I’m at work still, so I can’t get in game to see how much damage was done.
Regarding the acquisition of T6, I tried to be sneaky and use Clover recipes to farm T6. The RNG gods played a bad trick on me, as I was getting more Clovers than I really wanted.
Hello,
While I appreciate ALL the extra support and efforts to protect our accounts, I am in serious need to speak to the support supervisor regarding the way a ticket was handled for an account in my house. As a former tech support and Systems Administrator, and now as someone currently working in the game industry, I am disappointed in the current system that Guild Wars 2 handles tech support.
NC Soft and Arena Net publishes great games, and I have followed the dev’s because of of the attention to detail they put into each game. My experience with support for GW1 and COH/V was always outstanding! I hope that GW2 support can live up to that standard, as of right now I am concerned.
Will a support supervisor please email me and perhaps we can discuss the matter in question?
Cheers!
Enlil
I am very much in the same boat and have extensive logs to prove it… not to mention multiple BBB files open against Anet. I’ve been in contact with the CEO of NCSOFT over the support issues as well.
With the piles of evidence and continued (far less than average) customer support… my next step will be a petition and TV news. People are already appalled by the customer service… wait until they get a hold of my detailed history.
Good Luck with your plea – you’ll need it.
SKiN.
1) I doubt Taek Jin Kim would have conversations directly with a single player over support issues.
2) Filing negative reports on Anet with the BBB due to support actions that aren’t favorable to the player is a bit much. It’s like filing a BBB report on McDonald’s because my soda cup had a bent straw.
3) Don’t know if any TV station that would take the time to report news on one player’s unhappiness with customer services of a video game company. The news about that player who sued NCSoft because he became addicted to another game barely got mention.
I conclude that this post is trolling of the highest level.
If this works as a very successful Gold sink, then I will of course congratulate Smith on its wise Architecture.
OTOH, if it just results in a bunch more minmaxers with the “If you’re NOT running Berserker, then you’re being selfish” mentality to further petition Anet to keep designing their way AROUND the problem of the berserker meta, then I will be very vocal in my disappointment over it.
I don’t run Clerics/Celestial/Ryenas/PVT/Knights/Valks/Rampagers b/c I’m bad at dodging or worried about dying. No, infact my Twitch reflexes are in the top 2%. No I prefer to run those stats because they keep the encounters from ending too soon and being TOO EASY. This removal of MF% from gear simply because it caused disagreements between minmaxers and casuals, is a dangerous precedent to be setting…
I sorta agree with Anet that MF should not be an attribute along side Power, Toughness, etc. But then again, I used to run full MF gear when I WvW’d, so it’s not like the stats trade off affected my game play in a zerg.
Consider the fact that Anet recently released information on how T7 mats are being made. People are going crazy trying to flip key items for next week’s update. And it’s not manipulation, it’s called competition.
Within minutes of John’s update, people were already draining the TP supply of specific items. I seriously need to get the IT guys to allow me to connect to GW2 with my laptop. 6 more hours until I can get home, and by then, it’s way too late to play the market…
They all went up in price due to speculation. But with clear news on what each type of mat is doing, I expect prices to jump even more.
And so much for selling Exotics on the TP. I’ll be salvaging them all for Dark Matter. That alone could make Ecto prices wacky for a little while.
Side note – the updates to the runes are interesting too.
This update is HUGE for us who watch the TP like it’s a growing child. I’m almost crying because my boss won’t let me go home to play video games.
Ectos, Crystalline, mats of all flavors are gonna go crazy. Though I’m glad I didn’t waste all my Karma, since I’ll need them all for Obsidian Shards.
Our favorite economist recently posted a write up on the upcoming changes to the game. It’s an important read, so everyone who frequents the Trading Forum should see:
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/economy-report-brace-yourself-disequilibrium-is-coming/
Thanks John for giving us some details.
Edit – The most interesting part of the article is how we’ll be making T7 mats. Since I’m at work, I’m unable to get in game. So I just missed out on buying up all the lower end mats before the prices skyrocket. Sad penguin is sad.

The quality of the box is determined by how much effort you put into attacking the Champion. So what she’s trying to ask is why there’s a discrepancy between tagging a Champ once and getting an Exotic box, and tagging a Champ multiple times, and getting a Green box.
It’s hard to tell what’s going on most of the time, since mobs are so dense. Some days I walk away with 40+ Exotic boxes and a handful of Green. Other days I have maybe only a single Green box. Might just be a bug in the hit detection/loot distribution codes.
SAB Should TOTALLY Come out on 9/2

I would prefer it to come on Saturday, but Monday morning would work just fine.
While we all have different opinions on the matter, the only one that counts is Anet’s. If you use a copyrighted or trademarked name/word, they would have to ask the player to change it. If a name/word has a vulgar connotation to it (regardless of what the player intended), they would have to ask the player to change it. An example is the “N” word. Some countries see that word to only mean the color black, while in the US, a racial slang is based off of it.
As for the use of Urban Dictionary, that is justifiable. Some names/words can have different meanings in pop culture. Some may not be as widely known as others, but if a player reports it, Anet has to consider it. Then it comes down to a judgement call on the Support Team.

Gem store items: real cash or in-game item?

As long as you don’t pay the other person with real world goods (cash or physical items), that trade isn’t technically wrong. However, it’s at your own risk. So if one person doesn’t go through with the trade (Gentleman’s Agreement), Anet won’t step in to help.
Tribulation Mode is ridiculously difficult and time consuming.
Which Dev is responsible for this? I want to send him/her cookies.
Don’t get too excited just yet. We were told that dungeons were notoriously hard before launch and…well…yeah.
However, if it DOES end up being excruciatingly, horrifyingly, PAINFULLY difficult, then TAKE MY COOKIES. TAKE THEM ALL AND EAT THEM IN FRONT OF ME WITH A SMUG GRIN.
On a related note – Oreo came out with the MEGA STUF. This could make any Dev smile.
Just an FYI – if Anet closed the account due to potential risk, they don’t keep the money. The transaction is reversed, and any creditcard used is refunded. It just takes a few days for processing.
On the note to try again, I’m sure it’s ok for her to appeal the decision by updating her ticket. Just keep in mind that they did say "Further replies regarding this account or issue may not receive a response.”
Tribulation Mode is ridiculously difficult and time consuming.

The Tribulation Mode skins are color-shifted variants of the regular set. Each World has a color. Blue is the general SAB color (so not gained through Tribulation Mode), Green is World 1, Yellow World 2, Red World 3 and Purple World 4. This follows the Bauble value color scale. But don’t get your hopes up for getting the Tribulation color variants. Tribulation Mode is ridiculously difficult and time consuming. I don’t expect to see many green or yellow super skins out there. TM is there for a very small group of people who are into that sort of thing.
You mean content that’s beyond “Liadri difficult”? OH BOY!!!
Ah the digital age, isn’t it wonderful. Drag an image from a browser to a folder and you’re in business. Seriously, that individual needs to be taken down, sometimes I really have to wonder what kind of soulless broken human thinks its fine to do something like that. Reminds me of that guy that was selling themed wallpaper discs with work he pillaged.
There are times when you have an individual, like a teenager, who doesn’t understand the law. But ignorance isn’t a defense to breaking said law either. Sometimes life’s lessons are learned the hard way.
Oh yeah I remember doing dumb stuff as a teen but I’m having a hard time believing someone who can go through the necessary hoops of Paypal/Money orders/ cashing checks etc doesn’t have even a passing awareness of copyrights, I mean the stuff being sold there didn’t exactly fall out of the universe and onto the internet. Or maybe that’s part of the problem, because it’s online means it belongs to nobody(?).
Another part to this equation is that people might think that they are too small for big companies to care to chase. Tell that to Disney, and you’ll hear something completely different.
Part of the problem here is that Fanart artists are NOT the copyright holders to the content. Ebay is probably not acting on the OP’s requests because it needs to come from Anet’s legal department. So unfortunately, of all the art that’s being sold, no one but Anet can request for it to stop. I would suggest that the OP contact the Guild Wars Community Team and share the concerns with this e-mail address: community@arena.net
That’s not entirely true. They are not the ‘exclusive’ copyright owners.
NCSoft might own the IP to the Guildwars universe, but unless the ‘fan art’ is a direct edit of NCSoft owned artwork, NCSoft cannot claim ‘ownership’ and distribute the artwork themselves (without permission from the artist). However, the OP also cannot `distribute` the artwork (unless they have permission) because it could be considered a derivative work of NCSoft IP. She still ‘owns’ it and ebay ought to respond to her take down request.
Looking at that particular image, I think NCSoft (if they actually want to, which I don’t think they would anyway) would have trouble arguing much copyright at all. If they tried, due to it’s cartoony nature, if the OP argued it was a Parody it would be classified as `Fair Use` if it went to court (between the OP and NCSoft).
But this is all getting off track because the OP isn’t trying to commercially distribute her work anyway. The OP is perfectly within her rights to tell ebay to remove the listing, and they should so do based on her request. That’s the important thing here.
But even if she actually wanted to make commercial prints herself she could probably do so without any issue at all from NCSoft. But asking would be a better plan, and I suspect that they’d most likely give her permission if she asked for it. But that wasn’t what she was trying to do so it’s not really an issue.
I will agree with one part of your argument. The Fanart was created by the player, and another player is trying to profit off of it. Yes they should be able to ask Ebay to remove it, but there are key problems that I must point out. Ebay’s policy might require the actual copyright holder to make the request. If you cannot prove your own the full rights to the content, Ebay might not act.
Going on, I must also point out other problems with your post. NCSoft or ArenaNet owns the rights to all Guild Wars related materials. One cannot take Rytlock, draw him in your own style, and attempt to sell the print without permission from NCSoft/Anet. That is no where in the bounds of “Fair Use”.
As for “Fair Use”, that is completely different from “Commercial Use”. You can post a parody on YouTube, write up a walkthrough tip guide, or even post criticisms on a blog. Once you attempt to sell the works without permission from the copyright holders, that’s against the law. On a similar note, you can also get in trouble if you try to monetize YouTube videos using other people’s copyrighted materials.
The artist can make commercial prints all they want, as long as it’s their own designs. Again, drawing a copyrighted material in your own style doesn’t remove the copyright. As stated on the Guild Wars legal page, they are ok with personal use, but retain all commercial control over their products (until they grant permission otherwise).
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/legal/guild-wars-2-content-terms-of-use/
Ectos did not increase by 10silver.
Please don’t exaggerate.
Just want to clarify. Today it is 28 silver for 1 ecto…Yes i really exaggarated……..:-D
Note – you cannot base your counter argument on exaggeration when the initial comment was made 10 days ago. It applied only then, not now.
The bottom image still upsets me greatly.

And then start farming invasions like hell and collecting stacks of champion boxes.
So in order words, corner the market on account bound Exotic Champ boxes?
The report item functionality tells you to report directly to VeRO (ebay). Reporting to DA is irrelevent.
This is what you need to complete
http://pages.ebay.com.au/help/tp/vero-rights-owner.htmlYou own the copyright to your work, if you’ve not given him commercial rights to produce posters, then Ebay have to take it down following your request. Otherwise they are selling stolen goods and also breaking the law.
Uploading artwork to DA doesn’t give up your rights, you simply give DA the non-exclusive rights to display the work and to make prints only if you chose to enable that functionality. Only DA would then have the rights to make prints and you’d be making money from the process.
You could also pursue this through the courts if you wanted, but it would be an expensive international battle unless you’re also in australia. It looks like his entire stock is stolen IP. Hopefully NCSoft will use their muscle to take them to court, and you can piggyback on the back of the case.

Crystals are like 50 cents each, just skip adding cheese to your whopper for a couple days.
But I feel I’m entitled to my Whopper with cheese.
For luxury items, there needs to be a gate. What do I mean? While Legendary weapons should be made so that any player who wants one can work for it, we need to ensure that it’s difficult enough to keep the weapons rare.
The current gate is the Precursor. The market helps to determine the high price for them, so that helps to keep these as luxury items. The low drop rate for chest loot or Mystic Forge is also a gate. If players, en masse, decide to sell Precursors for cheap, or an increase in drop rates causes the item to become more available, the status of having a Legendary will be negatively affected. Imagine Lion’s Arch full of Twilights. The awe factor would be gone, and owning one would turn into “meh”.
The idea for a Precursor Scavenger Hunt or Quest is interesting. I’m currently against that idea, based on my assumptions that it’ll make Precursors too easy to get. What I would hope is that if Anet implements this idea, it should be along the lines of Liadri + Clockwork JP hard. If you want to use the word “punishing”, that’s fine, I’ll call it “Challenging”. But the point here is that luxury items, like Legendary weapons, need an artificial gate so they can retain rarity. Anyone can farm in zergs to make money to eventually buy a Precursor or Legendary, but mastery of game mechanics would truly set the bar for “Legendary requirements”.
For every person who hates temporary content, there might be two more who loves it. So I say, we need more SAB!
If the exchange is at this point, that means the ratio is still reasonable to others.
1) Why not post this in the SPvP forums, since it’s related to that, and not an Account problem
2) Since you didn’t explain what this “exploit” is, it’s hard to say if it’s even an exploit, or someone smartly using the map.
Achievements from World 1 Open Again?

The original SAB achievement list will return, along with a new, separate achievement list for world 2.
There may even be a new special surprise for folks who finished the original list of achievements (which will also be available for folks who finish the original list while it is available)…
Ho SNAP!!! thank you for bringing SAB! Scarlet was the biggest disappointment in all GW2, SAB was the biggest surprise! The wounds may heal if Scarlet is retconned out forever!
That moment when Scarlet shows up inside the SAB…
I would suggest you socialize and make some friends, or join a guild. I play solo a majority of the time, because I don’t like to drag people along with me while I farm. But when I do need help, I have guildies who I can ask if they’re free. I can even join random people on the map and battle the big bad monster.
You cannot compare precursers with other items. Thats just wrong.
Or do you compare apples with Maseratis?
They are still items that can be bought and sold on the open market. So I’ll simplify the question:
You have “Item A” that’s in high demand. You put it on the market for sale, and you find two buyers.
Buyer 1 – I’ll pay 400 Gold for your “Item A”.
Buyer 2 – I’ll pay 700 Gold for your “Item A”.
Question – To whom would you sell your item to?
No sorry. Rollback services are only available for players with compromised accounts, and must meet specific qualifications. Having a family member do something bad like this, unfortunately, doesn’t qualify.
I got 1339 gold, thats more than enough. I dont need to be jealous. And reading your comments makes me think that both of you are part of those speculants.
As long as John doesn’t release information on my transactions, you’ll never know.

I wonder how long it will take to Lord Vanquish to discover that his precious princess is a man…
Maybe he knew all along.
Basically someone or some people are playing the market with silver doubloons in which when i have just checked there are less than 250 on the market. Why is Anet letting people get away with something like this as it will stop the making of juggernaut completely soon especially at the rate there going up and slowly fading away? They need to be made a more common drop like lodestones which are also a vital material in crafting a legendary?
Or you can do it the old fashion way, and farm the lower levels yourself. Lodestones are high level area drops, thus are more available due to more people doing higher level stuff.
I think it’s safe to assume that the chart for Day 25 and 26 would indicate that a handful of players sold multiple Dusks to unique buyers. That’s far from being able to “control” the market. As for the Legend, looks like it’s one seller per buyer.
I can only conclude that a few players panicked on news about Legendary weapon upgrades, and went out and bought Dusks. This move was just speculation that the prices would skyrocket. It happens in the real world markets too.
Best to exercise a bit of caution.
It’s really hard to draw conclusions based on these metrics alone (uniqueness). All it tells us is the number of actors (including the item, but not unique roles) in a given day – not even across the time period.
There’s really not really a lot to go on. It’s something, but nothing really conclusive.
My speculation of their reasoning is based on their speculations of pricing. Basically the blind leading the blind. One thing that I do know for a fact is that there’s no monopoly of Precursors, nor is there market control.
