It was the same with the release of GW2. Then the Gauntlet sometime after that.

It was easier for a bunch of people to get on the forums and QQ rather than l2p.

It takes someone 5mins to make a post about how ‘hard’ something is when it may be forever to actually get good at it.

Elite Specialization Profession Unlock

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: SoPP.7034

SoPP.7034

One concern I have, especially for those that have alts of the same professions is that the Elite Specializations (ES) have to be unlocked all over again.

I like the current changes they have made while still giving us a sense of progression. However once an ES is unlocked on a profession I believe that it should become unlocked across all professions on the account.

Personally I main a mesmer and while I have invested a lot into my Human mesmer I became ‘bored’ of it for various reasons. Now I have no interest to delete this toon given the gold and time sinks into it, but have enjoyed playing my Asura mesmer. Things like ascended weapons and armor have been manageable as I use exotics then over time as gold and time becomes free have invested in ascended for my Asura.

Looking at the ES on my Asura I’m not sure if I have the motivation to redo it again, perhaps I could chip away at it, HOWEVER if the ES becomes part of the meta I’d probably find myself pigeon holed into my human mesmer. Not really wanting to play my human mes but not wanting to have to unlock my alts all over again. I’ve thought about making a Sylvari Mesmer to.

I don’t want this to become and entitlement post, so wanted some feedback from others.

Once an ES is unlocked should it be unlocked on that account or should one have to spend the time to unlock it all over again?

Your words now I take it. I mean after all if you haven’t purchased yet, your either convincing yourself why you made a good decision to wait, or realising you made a mistake to wait.

In any event you misinterpreted the context of my previous post. Which was based on the the BWE3. This isn’t a BWE, it’s now been released. I don’t see any of the problems I saw from the BWE3 hence the turn around.

And FYI this is why ANet tend to be vague with details. Be specific and people like yourself will be all over it to suit your own needs.

SoPP.7034

That’s a large portion of a weekend where WvW would be nowhere near as fun, and time I’m likely to spend in other games or gamemodes.

Perhaps with this change if WvW is boring on the weekend people WILL go into PvE/PvP instead, which may be the entire point.

No one wanted the bloodlust nodes back in the day that gave a huge boost to a dominant server, this was particularly true immediately after it was introduced. Sacrx at the time indicated that ANet were trying to unbalance WvW and GvG even more and push people into PvP (ANet’s preferred game mode) for balanced fights.

If getting you out of WvW and turning you into a PvP player were to occur, in short, ANet would be happy.

21 day Trading Post Extravaganza

That would have been a more appropriate name for this 21 day sale.

However ANet decided to call it a sale and it left people debating the semantics of what exactly constituted a ‘sale’.

By calling it an extravaganza (or even something else, perhaps a metaphor) it would give room for ANet to do their creativity we’ve seen over the last few weeks in the TP.

Instead what I think we’ll see is a lot of angry people at the end because they didn’t get a ‘sale’.

If this was the same people who put together the initial HoT digital expansion promo upgrades, that created the same kind of upset. I wouldn’t be surprised.

Sure it is their opinions and I won’t take it away from them but we should not even try to understand what they are upset about. Some may be upset that the water in their tub today was cold and they blame it on Anet.

Some people just have to have an opinion, even if that opinion is ill informed or advised. Mainly because people like to think of themselves as important, with important things to say. Unfortunately this is not always true.

This thread is no different.

While the downvote system in reddit does get abused the plus side is that the community overall does a good job to remove stupid opinions.

As a veteran player I have decided to pre-purchase now.

My only comment on the matter is that the situation was made infinitely more complicated then it needed to be, and the team behind it needs to be internally questioned about their decision making process.

I also thought it was quiet amusing that the GW2 post was signed off by the ‘GW2 Team’. As if no one person or specific team at ANet wanted to take responsibility for previous decisions.

I was a keen pre-purchaser right up until pre-purchase was announced and then I wasn’t.

What happen? I hesitated…..

Reading some people’s posts I’ve seen the veteran ‘entitlement’ post thrown around. I did wonder, was that me, was I being to entitled? Being a 3 day head start Gw2 player.
I look at others posts: it’s to expensive, there’s no character slot etc, edited FAQ was that it?

Sure, some of those posts perhaps helped me to rationalize my initial feelings. But the fact was I hesitated, I went to purchase and then didn’t. In retrospect its because none of the pre-purchases ‘fit’.

The problem was synergy, or lack thereof. I got held up over the core game getting bundled. Wait, what? Let me explain.

Some investigation showed that I couldn’t separate the core game and the HoT release. I mean if I could bundle HoT with my main and have a 2nd account as a mule I could work with that. But no. Even with the subsequent posts explaining the core was getting bundled free it didn’t matter. The momentum was lost, I hesitated. Now I’m reading about how much it costs, with no extra character slot and veteran entitled players.

The process went like this:
I saw the standard edition and thought ok maybe that, but I already have the core game. So it wasn’t that one. Next!
Deluxe, maybe this one? Extra slot awesome but again the core game which i didn’t need.
The gems were ok for the ultimate edition but same thing.

It’s kind of amusing to realize I got held up over something that perhaps if it had been reworded or presented to me in a different way I would have pre-purchased.

But I didn’t and the best explanation I can give was because it didn’t ‘fit’. Then of course I started reading the forums (big mistake). Was it to expensive? Why no character slot? Hesitation grew into doubt.

I mean I’ll still get HoT at some point most likely, I’m an avid GW2 player but my attitude has changed. I went from 100% pre-purchse to ‘when I get round to it’. I’m not trying to argue that my perspective is ‘logical’ other than this why I didn’t pre-purchase despite saying I would….

Perhaps some people will still say it’s my problem, which I guess it is, but I don’t know what to say other than I REALLY wanted to pre-purchase, but then stopped because it didn’t ‘fit’.

The only thing I can say is that marketing REALLY needs to consider the definition of ‘barriers’ because that’s what I hit (real or imagined) and would have pre-purchased otherwise.

I had historically decided to buy HoT as soon as it was available.

When the pre-purchase rolled around I was super excited and immediately went to the appropriate web page. Then when I got there I hesitated….
In essence as a veteran player I came away feeling that non of the pre-purchase deals suited me and as a result I went away with a collective ‘hmmmph’ and still haven’t pre-purchased it.

I guess I just find it amusing that I went from a 100% yes I’ll pre-purchase to feeling indifferent and thinking I’ll probably buy it ‘when I get around to it’.

Is Anet aware of these kind of responses from people? I’m just struggling with how I’ve almost done a 180 on this.

A lot of your post is entirely subjective.

My impression of the CDI was that while some elements within ANet acted on the information presented others were less than proactive.

What I saw was a great initiative that had good intentions and while not perfect had great potential.

Ultimately the elements that didn’t take to the CDI worked against it and ultimately stopped anymore from happening, rather than it ‘not being sustainable’.
