The Warrior turns to the guardian and says, “Did you hear something?”
Guardian replies, “No, but how’d the elementalist die?”
(edited by SoPP.7034)
Well I’m just going off what I see.
Exactly, which isn’t much.
There were no afkers or d/c, we were completely outplayed. What you’re saying isn’t wrong as such, so it gives your ideas some traction. But as I said, your over simplifying it, one ele wasn’t going to turn that game around.
EDIT:
Saw you post this in the other thread, so you do know.
Ah. Unlike most teams that I fought, you must have gotten placed against one of the ones that knew what they were doing and did it very well.
(edited by SoPP.7034)
If you had an Ele
You weren’t there so I’ll let you go on trying to over simplify the situation. One ele swap wasn’t going to make much difference.
Why not switch to another class such as an Ele?
The alt acct seems to be doing fine, with all those wins. Why would I need to use ele?
Why?
All that work and his progress just gone.
Have they tweaked matchmaking with Tuesday update? Seriously what is happening?
Anet’s MMR……….. who knows what it thinks sometimes. In my experience, when you’re on a winning streak, DO NOT STOP ON PAIN OR DEATH. Seriously, cancel your date, txt your mum and tell her you’ll call tomorrow.
When you hit those losing streaks though, stop. Wait till the following days reset, before you try again. Even if you planned to have a 5hr marathon, don’t do it.
PS. I classify 3 games in a row as a losing streak.
why post this! unless to satisfy elitism
Cause it’s not elitism it’s anet system.
This picture is from my alt account that’s currently mid ruby. I can safely tell you that my main acct HAD NO WHERE NEAR this good a run. The key difference is that i spend most my time on my main (obviously) I only play on my alt acct. when I’m basically 100% familiar with the profession I’m playing.
I get placed in good teams because my MMR is good.
It’s that simple.
I am currently in Ruby division and have a win rate of 80%. The build you are playing aswell as player skill makes a difference.
Also, most of my games are by doing solo queues.
Same, but this is on my alt acct. that I play when I’m 100% down with that proff and can dominate.
So on my main I have above 50% MMR, on my alt account i sit above 70%. On my alt acct. I can safely say that if u get match against the teams I play in as a soloq, goodluck. Because skills and builds is only a small part when the system is placing you in teams designed to lose.
The OP is absolutely onto something.
I’ve switched to alt account that I basically play on when I’m 100% down with my plays on w/e proffs I can dominate with. So I have no doubt my MMR is high on this acct.
The games I’ve played have been a joke, an absolute joke. Great for me, my win ratio is through the roof but I’ve been getting games where I win 501-186, 565 – 80, 502 – 145. These are just the last few games I played! I lose maybe once every 8 – 10 games.
It’s hilarious that were seeing some of the NA ESL players play their alt account by stomping the same players they stomped to make it through the first time around. Basically gaming the system again like season 1 with their alt account in amber teaming with higher division players. They know they can maintain a high enough MMR to get matched with equally good players. (ANet espurts rofl)
I mean I was tier 1 ruby on my alt, getting matched with 3 diamonds against a full ruby team. That’s just a joke.
Anet maybe thinks that lesser players will keep playing or that the number is infinite. But they absolutely are getting farmed and if you have an acct that has for w/e reason a low mmr, your going to spend a long time trying to pull your mmr up because the system absolutely is not helping you.
EDIT Added my alt accts SS winning streak, my main acct is so jelly. Ive actually posted a few different SS around the PvP forums. The winning streaks on my alt acct have been pretty constant.
(edited by SoPP.7034)
One game it’s 2v1 at home, myself reaper vs reaper and rev.
The rev is still recovering health so I focus him, he gets low but so am I. Our thief comes from middle to make it 2v2 and i think we’ve got it. I get the rev down but have no shroud and am critically low. I look up to see the thief engage the necro, panic and run back to middle. gg.
Another game we cap home and mid and are pulling out a good lead. Their DH rotates to our home and caps it. 2 of our players in particular respawn and continually die to this DH at home.
I rotate home, and engage their DH. He’s a good player, I duke him a couple times and get his health low. The 2 dead players respawn and I think we got this.
I then literally reposition behind a pillar that is against the wall from one side to the other, as in mere seconds. From one side I see the 2 respawned players jump into the (already long ago capped) circle. As I make it to the other side of the pillar I see both of them downed in the middle of the circle. They had literally both jumped into the DH traps simultaneously on an already capped circle. The enemy ele comes in heals the DH and they finish the 2 downed.
Me in teamchat “You know how DH traps work right?”
at least this season legendary is actually much more close to show the player’s skill
Then just go back to regular PvP, we don’t need seasons for that. The reward system asks for progress, yet they give you games your supposed to lose.
Once again Anet proving they have no idea.
No one expects a free carry but omfg when you’re only 1 pip from going up a division just to hit a losing streak. Then slowly build back up, just to hit another losing streak.
You think they’d have a light bulb moment and realise “Losing streaks upset people”.
But no, ANet has no idea.
(edited by SoPP.7034)
After reaching 11 pips in diamond after hard work I got caught in a downward spiral and the following screen shows what happens to me more often than it should.
Honestly, I’d say you were lucky. Being 1 pip from diamond a few times now, only for the genius that is MMR to give me a game like this.
Just one game shy, ANet has no idea.
The system has resulted in poor matches throughout the divsions
That’s probably what most people who congratulated themselves for advancing quickly didn’t realise. They were merely stomping games, the games themselves were of poor quality.
It’s the same as last season, instead of soloq getting fed to premades ANet’s feeding soloq/average players to partied/higher mmr players.
It was disappointing to see Helseth come out in support of the current system. It 1) showed his disconnect to the average player 2) Encourages Anet to use it a again next season.
I don’t know why Anet haven’t removed personal score. Like you’ve pointed out, it really doesen’t show skill. A Bunker, that may have contributed the most to the team, will have a much lower personal score than someone that’s DPSing.
I wouldn’t be at all surprised to find out that ANET used personal score to help determine MMR.
make the ladder more prestigious
Prestigious? Is that what its called called….. ( see picture)
You can’t be that clueless.
Or the other game i just had, 5 diamond vs 3 ruby 2 diamond. Give you one guess who wont that game.
Please go ahead and tell us more prestigious jokes, because Ruby is $%#ing hilarious.
I’d kill for a 50% win rate/close matchup like SC2 and other competitive games… those games that end with 500-10 doesn’t really help either side improve.
But espurts!
Better than season 1, but that’s not really saying much. It would have been hard to screw up this season more than last season unless you were trying.
There’s still some huge failings in their mmr, and the 3/2 premade against full solo or 4 man premades still creates imbalance.
ANet PvP design philosophy.
“Sometimes we get it, a lot of the time we have no idea”.
Dw, making sure team PZ has fun trolling on their alt accounts is more important than the rest of us plebs getting fair matchmaking.
Quoted for truth
Congrats to Leet0
1 pip from Diamond and I get this game….
What a joke.
Is this really a thing?
Let’s say an average or above average soloq player that tries hard from the beginning of the season and ends up on a losing streak is doomed for the rest of the season. The MMR will consider them a a ‘bad player’ and constantly matched with players that are bad dropping their mmr more.
So long as your pro leagues epurts is their priority you’ll continually see bad decisions for the majority.
I wish they’d just let it go.
Sacrx NDA leak ages ago, showed that WvW and GvG were left to rot for the sake of PvP. So now that GvG is dead and WvW is on the verge PvP must be doing well?
The most popular streamers for PvP spend most their time laughing at Anet.
#potatofarmers
Like it was suggested in S1 just separate soloQ and teamQ like it was previously. 5 man premade will only face other 5 man premade. Surw, queue time will go up but atleast players won’t waste time going against premades who are using ccoms…I’d rather have a longer queue time and go into a match knowing I have 50% chance of winning than waiting for a short queue and facing a well organize premade team.
That will screw over esl players which Anet is absolutely NOT happy about.
Too busy celebrating a successful first season to see if it was actually working I guess. Does anyone expect them to suddenly change this approach?
Too busy stroking the epeeen that is esl player.
ANet “We don’t want espurts but we continually make decisions that push towards it so if it happens that’s great”.
This is an outlier case
Please tell me you can quantify that and is it statistically significant?
Lets create a system that punishes new to average players but stroke the epeeen of pro players.
Go espurts.
S2 = same dog with different fleas.
I want my pips back from season one when ANet made me play against premade after premade. Apparently, ’there’s nothing we can do’.
This system can work just fine in the future IF…
There is no magic bullet.
I haven’t had confidence in ANet for some time to manage such things. Part of me hopes that they just drop this ESL pro leagues and focus on making the game better instead of making a small % of people happy.
They just keep shooting themselves in the foot.
It takes a bit time to learn how to navigate in the new areas
I was there at release, 3 months later I still don’t like TD. So I’m not sure what that has to do with being a ‘filthy casual’. But if I hardcore ‘Dark Souls’ it for hours on end I’m sure I’ll get it? That, btw is assuming I am a filthy casual, which, even based on your criteria, I can safely say I’m not.
In any event, the previous post you replied to was referring to TD, I’m not sure why you elected to change that in your later post and infer he had a problem with all areas, which he didn’t.
You seem to be a real casual gamer.
You know that GW2 has been casual focused for the better part of 2 1/2 years right?
I gotta say, 3 months later, I still hate this map.
If you’re at 70%, it means you’re far better than the players you play with and the system knows to keep pitting you against tougher opponents. If you can beat EVERYONE in the game and maintain a 70% win rate minimum, go and try out for a competitive team.
I’ll be honest, you don’t have much perspective on the system.
70% is impossible with soloq, anyone who gets that is already in a team. During League’s I was getting fed to 5 man premade ESL legendary players while I was a soloq ruby at that time, just to drag down my win rate.
The same holds up on my second account. Starting in amber obviously, I was getting matched against full premade emeralds, just to drag down my win rate.
its not possible anymore to maintain a 70%+ winrate.
more like 55-60% at maximum with the new system.NOTE: if you play solo.
That’s pretty much my take on it.
snip
You haven’t been playing since release so you’re probably unaware, but you could have literally just copied a post from that time with the sort of response you provided.
Indeed the only thing preventing people from looking completely stupid then was the fact the game was new and most thief players only knew how to play thief, so were given some latitude with their lack of insight.
besides im bored as kitten playing forest of niflhel wars 2 and guilds of legacy of foefire 2, seriously can people kittening vote for something different sometimes
The PvP tab tells me my favourite map is LotF, even tho I never voted for it, ever.
I want to know why these night capping geniuses didn’t support us when we were trying to get Ocx/SEA servers.
farmable (for example repeatable each day and you get all 3 achievs 10 points).
Most of your ideas are ridiculous relative to other players and only benefit your current level of AP.
Your farming idea is half useful but you would need to restrict high level AP from it, or your just reinforcing the same problem.
As usual it’s a half measure from ANet that wasn’t really thought out.
On the one hand, you have an ever growing divide of low vs high AP players. I guess ANet didn’t want that divide to increase. However you have to question why ANet have leader boards, indeed why have AP’s at all if you were just going to punish those that went for them.
So (once again) veteran players that played the game and did AP’s are being punished. New players or those that are in a position to game the system stand to benefit.
Seriously, let the AP hunters continue to compete with each other but make it a secondary system. The system doesn’t have to increase their AP’s if you want to stop the divide but offer a different unit of metric that they can use to ‘chest thump’ over but doesn’t highlight a divide between new and AP hunting veteran players in the way the current system does.
Sound too complicated? It is for ANet.
Another competitive Anet system not working properly?
It’s almost like they’re trying to make you dislike them.
The Problem is in my opinion, is that the higher ups do NOT want to let the developers work on PvP.
PvP has had at least 2 major face lifts in its 3 years, not to mention many smaller updates. Perhaps not as much attention as PvE but DEFINITELY more than WvW. ANet has given ALOT of resources to PvP.
Sacrx NDA leak highlighted that any decisions made for WvW had to go through the PvP team first. He also mentioned that, back in the day, ANet would listen to groups like Team Paradigm and make changes that kept them happy.
Internally I don’t think much has changed, ANet gives a lot to PvP, your just seeing different names/teams involved.
ANet has focused on PvP alot and it shows. ANet had to work hard to reverse the trend of WvW being more popular than PvP. PvP hasn’t necessarily benefited or been managed correctly however.
In regards to that thread, stealth was never really a thief problem.
It’s worth mentioning that at that time ANet were in the throws fixing culling which occured after March 2013:
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/world-vs-worldthe-end-of-culling/
People were still new and had no context so focused on stealth as being the issue, which thief could spam with said weapons.
It wasn’t really the communities fault either, for example, a thief could prevent camp caps while invisible, essentially trolling an entire zerg that couldnt kill the ‘bunker’ thief. So there were many mechanics that made people focus on stealth.
Tbh it was a fail on ANet’s behalf, it really created an anti-thief movement within the community.
It’s not PvP related so much but anyone interested in the history of thief’s might find this thread interesting:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/wuv/Stealth-in-World-vs-World-needs-a-nerf/first
It was also the time of 100% more confusion damage,
Off the top of my head didn’t perplexity runes come in after a time?
The thief spam 2 meta was around for awhile.
EDIT: Rune was added August 6, 2013.
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Superior_Rune_of_Perplexity
(edited by SoPP.7034)
I remember that time in GW2 sigh
It was the era of invisi rendering thief’s in WvW. You could never seen them (rendering issues, no reveal = perma invisi). You always listened for the spam 2 sound to know an attack was incoming, cause literally that’s all thief’s needed to do. The number of times I reacted only to realise it was a team mate spamming 2.
Good times, good times.
This situation was inevitable and ANet should have planned for it.
Tbh I’m not surprised of ANet’s lack of foresight.
A counter down timer would have prevented frustration for many people. This coming from someone who already hit legendary.
If there’s a lot of people playing, then it can’t be all that bad.
For what it’s worth, as a legendary holder. I absolutely hate PvP now. I log on, do my 3 daily, then swap to a daily room if I didn’t get my profession wins.
The poor bunker meta we have atm, the fact ANet feeds soloquers to teams because of ‘espurts’, the fact there there’s little difference between a pro player and a pro farmer in this system.
I got on a treadmill and have no intention to do it again next season.
I have no respect for this season and have lost a lot of respect for ANet.
I cant help it if you cant see the difference between pay to win and expansion.
Please, you’re talking about a colloquial expression that has come about due to online gaming.
These expressions are developed through the complex array of society, culture and overall history. As such they’re an evolving process, not set in stone, after all English is hardly a ‘logical’ language.
If you going to get stuck on these kinds of semantics your not going to have any legitimate interactions. You’re really just left arguing ’I’m right, because I say so’ ad nauseam.
I took pointers from Leet0’s post:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/pvp/Soloq-Legend-achieved
Basically played tempest to hold points. Would have played mesmer, but already had champion illusionist.
Like Leet0’s post, I wouldn’t recommend soloq to legendary, its just not worth it.
Team queue queue times are of no concern to solo q players though.
It is to ANET tho, they cant have their espurts without their teams
