A loss is a loss, having such a close game is nice.
Remove the connection in your mind between a “high score” and PIP gain or loss.
In the case that one team has a much higher point score, but loses, it usually means that you zerged around the map, over rotating, getting decapped.
Unless you’re mostly insta-dying to superior coordination or skill, expect to lose a PIP m8
I’m sorry that is an over simplification and insensitive to the OP’s post. I’d even go so far as to say its a hypocritical statement given your pip farm in Stronghold for a couple days.
A good game is a good game, Leagues is Leagues, and they don’t sync together at all.

And there seems to be a growing opinion that ANet should pull their finger out and just separate PvP and PvE skills.

On paper it sounds great to make other people play different professions but ANet offer no healthy leeway for players who participate in this for leagues.
Watching Leet0 play thief after turning legendary was hilarious. But honesty it was a disaster for ANet because it was a complete mockery of their system.
I hope someone does a summary of leagues when its over. Because frankly the number of laughable design choices just…… I don’t even….

I stoped counting how many times I was insulted just by being on thief no mater how well i am performing.
I got to say this a a REAL problem and a bi-product of meta’s that establish and why having a meta that hangs around to long is bad.
For the longest time people talked up how bad necro’s were in dungeons. Alot of the points were valid but people almost universally always discounted them at their own bereft.
You really need it in context.
At that time, would you take a necro on a speedclear for a dungeon? No ofc not. But for your average PuG group I’d rather have a good necro in full gear than some bad meta profession player.
So getting back to PvP, do high end competative teams carry around x2 thief in their groups when they want to win? No, because its not efficient. Should your average soloq team have x2 thief? Depends. Like I said before I’d rather have 2 good thiefs then 2 bad players, people just need to take a step back.
That’s why threads like this are just ridiculous.
I’ve won games with x2 thief, but usually i ask them if one can swap out at beginning.
Still, i’d rather have 2 good thief’s then have them on a profession they’re bad at. Which is something a lot of people can’t get to, usually they get stuck on ‘but thief is bad’.

The system also allows people to swap profession. So while there might be duplicates a good team should have players that can swap out.
In bad teams, I’d argue it doesn’t really matter what you run.
The pip system can certainly give that impression.
Rather than follow a strict gain/lose X amout of pips that they show you. The system should be running those numbers behind the scene.
On the surface, what they show the player should be something much more straight forward, that doesn’t involve huge 2-3 pip losses.
Honestly this league has been a bit of a joke. I don’t know how this was a marketing ploy because from the ground up it’s just been a mess.
Everything from the lowly soloq player getting farmed by smurfs/MMr tankers, to ‘pro league’ bunker vs bunker yawn fests.

People rage quitting is not really an issue for premades, therefore not really a problem for ANet.

What do you think the effect of the energy sigil nerf will be for necro? I’m worried about being focused after the patch, I really need that extra dodge. And 4 stat gear like Mercenary’s seems good, but results in a higher relative increase in effective hp for classes with low base hp.
I did ask Leet0 this on his stream yesterday, and overall he didn’t seem to concerned by the sigil nerf. I can’t remember if he went into your other points.

I had that exact same situation yesterday. In all honesty the changes seem more geared to reducing queue times for higher tier teams.
All they’ve done is stopped the manual smurf some people used and introduced the ‘ANet smurf’

They were farming it. They were in and out of champions dusk for the better part of an hour.
I popped into YourfriendMarvin stream and asked, he said it was PZ + 1 Supcutie. He admitted that he wasn’t sure why they were there but said maybe it was to farm pips.
I noticed that Supcutie was still diamond so I figured that they were helping him get to Legendary.
Just to be clear I’m not mad at them. Supcutie is an awesome guy and they were just playing the game mode. I’m upset that ANet’s MMR considered this an appropriate match up.
Yeah 1 dc and 1 guy who tried to relog from necro to mesmer and he never showed up again. Same principle.
I was curious because most people have pointed towards lower ranked soloqers getting fed to higher division teams for the sake of reducing queue times creating some egregiously bad games.
Outfits have hit a saturation point. I bought a few when they went on sale but in all honesty I haven’t really used them since. I’d say its highly unlikely that I’d buy any more, inevitably I always mix and max with armours on my toons.

Was at 2 pips till diamond, got some afkers in a row and now back at tier 5. Im giving up.

It’s not really people’s fault, if ANet had a system that people had confidence in they might accept such things. But honestly ANet almost religiously create scenarios that are infuriating for anything other than a full 5 man premade on voip. So people react accordingly.

The mindblowing irony here is players stick around a game because they hear about a tough achievement they set out to accomplish: hone their skills, refine tactics, and obtain the reward but other players instead of meeting the content’s bar (giving us motivation to improve which is where much of the fun comes in) they want the bar lowered to meet their skill level.
Lots of skill based weapon and armor skins need to be in the game so other players think, “I want that!” and set out and put forth the effort to earn it.

Love is a little strong, mad respect is more like it.
He plays PvP in probably the worst possible direction that Anet would like.
I don’t play LoL but on the surface it’s pretty quick to pick up whats happening, to follow whats going on and even recognize good plays. Obviously their is a level of depth that you get into once you start playing/watching more but that doesn’t impact the ‘noob’ viewer.
The same can’t be said for GW2.

Thought I’d attached my game that had division imbalance from the start. It’s not as impressive as some of the others posted here, but its still poor match making that cost a pip.

Well Guild Wars 2 GvG would have had the potential to be the best eSport ever if it existed.
The game’s too imbalanced and not designed to be watched so it could never be that successful as an eSport.
Possibly, but we’ll never know. At release the momentum behind WvW and GvG was phenomenal, it %$#@ all over PvP.
ANet has had to work hard to reverse this trend and make PvP a preferred ‘go to’ game mode over them.

The best match making conditions would be if everyone was forced to play soloq. But you need teams for #esports, and if teams are unhappy you need to accomodate them because they legitimise your Pro League.
So if queue times are bad for teams for example, things need to change (like removing soloq).

I had one game like that, and took 3 pips from it which was sweet.
But its important to point out that’s pretty rare in my experience. For everyone one you win you lose 3 others and despite your pips remaining more or less stable or perhaps even progress. Your participating in what is usually a very biased game that is over quickly with little resistance.
Overall PvP is in a pretty sad state.
